AUDIO: Brian Gionta | Carey Price | Hal Gill | Jacques Martin
• At a Glance: Martin Brodeur strikes again. Despite winning only one of his six starts this season, Brodeur came into Montreal and shut out the Canadiens by a score of 3-0, making 29 saves in the process.
Carey Price was far less occupied, but was beaten three times on 20 shots in a game that was less than thrilling for the fans at the Bell Centre.
Zach Parise got the evetual game winner early in the first period when his shot from an odd angle eluded Price.
The Devils also got goals from Jason Arnott in the second and Matt Taormina beat Price with a floater in the third period.
For New Jersey, it is only their second win of the season.
• Key Moments: Once again, the Canadiens fired blanks on the power play, going 0-for-3.
• What It Means: Montreal’s record falls to 3-2-1 and the loss snaps a two-game winning streak.
• What’s Next: The Canadiens are in Ottawa on Saturday for the second game against the Senators in a week, and then are back home to take on the Phoenix Coyotes on Monday.

Soobie hits the post from 40 feet away….
Kovalchuk comes down the other way, tries to use Spacek as a screen, but Jaro falls backwards sliding into Price, and Kovalchuk scores in a pretty much empty net goal.
Oyoyoye….

I got AK at under 64.5 pts, with Triple X and Tom Nickle.
Zajac scores two.
Plekanec, Andrei and Subban score.
Habs win 3-2 on a late powerplay goal from Soobie,
Mike G’s Prediction for Tonight’s game….
Habs: Pleckanec scores, Cammy scores, and Pouliot gets a lucky one too for his confidence.
Devils: Parise, Elias, Kovalchuk and Greene score.
Devils win 4-3, in a really tigth game where we get outshot 43-23.
Carey plays very well, but f’kin Spacek costs us a goal with less than 5 minutes to go in the game.
Ok, go ahead and bash me now. But that’s my prediction…..

It’s funny how the “i” at the beginning of your post is lower-case.
Well it is still early in the season, and Price had great starts before, let us hope he doesn’t get injured and spiral into another slump while he gets healthy. If Price can continue to make an incredible number of stops without letting in goals or a few, and if our overpaid shrimps finally start scoring, we will do great. Keeping in mind that we are an average sized but skinny team leaning on the shrimp side of sizes, means that we still have a whole year of getting our butts kicked by the bigger larger slower teams…..kinda like watching a hockey player getting washed over by a huge tube of a wave like a surfer, is how it looks when our shrimps encounter the western conference defense. We have no answer to what the teams does best, which is crashing the nets, we don’t crash their’s as much. Hopefully having players the calibre that we have would embolden the whole team to once again, check the crap outta the other team twice their size.
because hes 9th all time in wins
Pouliot’s due!! 2 goals for the guy tonight. Kostitsyn gets 1 and cammy doesn’t notch one but assists on kostitsyn’s goal. Carey Price amazes all with a 25+ Save shutout.
If i’m right then this will be an excellent night to be a habs fan.

well Montreal needs to work on the powerplay and start this before Markov comes back so it doesnt put too much pressure on him.

Did he get a team ring after ?
My poo is green!
I think you missed the point. The fact is if he is going to play in the NHL let him develop in the role you want him to play in the future. Play as a grinder for a couple minutes is not going to help build his skill set so you might as well just put him back in the AHL for another year. I think the only real reason Eller is in the line up is that Habs management doesn’t want to look bad in the Halak deal just getting to prospects.
why is that a silly question?
From a thread below…. could anyone write a ‘hockey card’ type summary for Coach Martin? What’s his strength as a coach? weaknesses? Potential?

Las Vegas is currently being crushed by the recession as it depends so much on discretionary income. I can’t imagine it being an option any time soon, but with Gary….
unless you are talking playoffs.
he uses it for himself to get the current wners to agree for more expansion by giving each existing team a couple or $2 million from each new franchise. and they take it because they need the money NOW.
“make all the rinks Olympic size”
will never happen
Ohhhhhh…. thanks!

Fold allas, ATL, NYI, FLA, TB, CLB and PHO — seriously NJ might have to go on that list, for attendance reasons.
do a distribution draft, make all the rinks Olympic size and add teams in Waterloo and Quebec City.
Oh would we have some hockey!
Expand the AHL for the remaining players.
And oh yeah, publicly tar and feather Gary Bettman and send him back to basketball.

It’s fun dreaming on my lunch break. Discuss among yourselves.
It frustrates me when everyone gives JM credit for getting to the conference finals. We got outshot badly is right. JM deserves some credit but he’s never won a cup, and he’s had a lot of teams in the playoffs and that makes a statement as well.
Coaches should have hockey cards too: Strengths: team defensive play. Weakness: player development. Or whatever. And, akin to your quesiton… I wonder what JM’s would look like.

The Habs need to take advantage against teams that are struggling early in the season (see, Devils tonight
and Sens, Saturday) and get as many points as possible because they will factor in where this team finishes
later in the season. It’s been unfortunately the norm for this team to scratch and claw for every point late in
the season, with the team barely making the playoffs. It would say volumes about the growth of this team if
they can earn points now and make the stretch drive less stressful for both themselves and we the fans.
Go Habs Go!
good points but remember these wealthy men are the same ones he is convincing of buying into these no win situations
I agree tho I can’t fathom for the life of me why the owners wouldn’t be against these moves? especially with the profit sharing – it would mean more money for everyone
Buttman must be one hell of a spindoctor to keep these guys convinced that his path is the way to go
No clue – but he was with Cindy Day, so kind of cool in my books.
His stats alone would fill the card. And as famous poster on HI/O says…nuff said.
Hicks and Gillet have leveraged everything, which is a terribly poor way of investing if some of their investments sour. And, surprise surprise, they have.
when gainey was there hicks had the money to spend.
Stars attendence not the problem. In fact their AHL team the Texas Stars is one of the best drawing teams in that league too. Hicks the partner of Gillete mkade many bad investments ansd the loan shark banks have got their bloodsucking teeth into him.
God put that extra man on the field!
Hicks the partner of Gillette. Hicks was the Texas Rangers owner, a team one win away from their first ever World Series since leaving Washington, the team Hicks owned that declared bankruptcy earlier this season.
Will Habs beat Brodeur tonight? I mean win the game?
I killed a guy with a spade!
lol, good one
not that im a JM fan but thats a silly question
Youre probably right. And should that be the case, its absolutely stupid, because what do you expect to see in one period? Its like the guy is expecting instant chemistry. I think many of the habs recent coaches dont realize that sometimes chemistry takes time to build.
Stars are also 14 million under the salary cap at 45 million which is why a lot of fans aren’t showing up. Just above the league minum of 43.
Can you enlighten me as to why JM is a good coach please? and im not even saying it in a sarcastic or jerk-like manner, Im just actually genuinely curious what people see in this guy.
and please dont quote the fact that we made it to the ECF, seeing as we only made it on the strength of bonkers goaltending, and JM clearly got outcoached by Laviolette in the series against the flyers. Letting the other team outshoot you every game by a huge margin is not coaching, its called “hanging on for dear life and hoping for the best”.
New York 4 – Toronto 1
That is great news. I hope you asked God as you had some lunch with him who was going to win the games on Sunday in the NFL and who to pick. I will split the winnings 60-40 with you……… I will give you the 60 percent. God is not a solution but look’s like faith work’s for her.
Its like a lady I used to work with who told me that the alouettes won the grey cup because they all got together before the game on one knee and prayed….
I was like, god isnt why the alouettes won, the alouettes won because the roughriders coaching staff is a bunch of morons, and if god is focusing efforts on canadian football league titles than he seriously has his priorities mixed up.
Pleks earned his stripes on the checking line
Agreed. All American markets depend heavily on icing a good team.
However, I think this financial crisis is more related to Tom Hicks financial problems. He recently sold his share in Liverpool and the Rangers because he had cash flow problems.
Hopefully, Nolan Ryan or Mark Cuban buy the Stars.
November 11, 2008. He’s due.
Go Habs Go!
Well the owners always seem to have his back, so either hes a master manipulator, or theres some sort of benefit these owners are getting behind the scenes that we dont see, because none of it makes any sense from even the most basic business perspective.
NHLPA will only allow contraction as a last resort in a scenario where the state of the entire league is in jeopardy.
Too bad Gary has way too much pride to look at the contraction option. Take one step back today, to advance by leaps and bounds in the future.
I think we are all making WAY TOO MUCH of this. Pyatt will be on the first line for a couple of shifts and then Benny will be back there for the 2nd.
I would say ego more than anything else.
There’s little risk in taking financially struggling teams and putting them into challenging markets. If the plan works, he’s a hero, if it doesn’t, meh whatever.
I would bet that’s his mindset.
What he doesn’t realize is that everytime he speaks publicly about league matters, he contradicts himself and ends up looking like the liar that he is.
He says it’s the owners who make the calls, or “board of governors”. But why would a group of wealthy men and corporations want to keep franchises in locations where they’re emptying the pockets of colleagues?
I ate a big red candle.
Go Habs Go!
When was the last time the Montreal Canadiens won the Stanley Cup?
