• At a Glance: The Canadiens didn’t get the start they had hoped for to their three-game Western Canadian road trip on Thursday night, losing 4-1 to the Edmonton Oilers, the NHL’s worst team. The Oilers jumped out to a 1-0 lead when Ales Hemsky scored 8:15 into the first period. He grabbed the puck off an Oilers’ faceoff win in the Montreal zone, deked a few players and put a shot over Carey Price’s shoulder. The Canadiens would tie the game 4:06 into the second period when Jeff Halpern pushed a loos puck home during a goal-mouth scramble. The goal was originally credited to Lars Eller, but changed to Halpern during the second intermission. The Oilers put the game away early in the third period with two goals in 15 seconds. Jordan Eberle scored his 13th of the season when he broke into the zone and put a shot into the top corner from a sharp angle. Off the ensuing faceoff, Ryan Jones was able to beat Price between the legs to make it 3-1. Hemsky capped the scoring into an empty net in the final minute.

• Key Moments:
James Wisniewski was hit in the face with a puck midway through the first period and did not return. He was taken to hospital for tests.

• What It Means: Montreal has lost two straight games and its record falls to 31-21-7 to remain at 69 points, two behind the Bruins for first place in the Northeast Division.

• What’s Next: The Canadiens head to Calgary for the Heritage Classic on Sunday, then head west to Vancouver to take on the Canucks on Tuesday.

  1. observer says:

Does anyone have a game link that is working?

  2. RC-51 says:

    There goes another one! WTF??

  3. TomNickle says:

No pun intended but if it quacks like a duck.  Darren Dreger and Dave Pagnotta tweeted the trade about 2 minutes prior to Eklund posting it.  I mean, if he wants to avoid the accusation he should consider waiting a few more minutes.

  4. Danno says:

I know a guy called Stanley and he has eleven toes. That means he’s a leprechaun.

“Hey Richard, two minutes for looking so good!”

  5. habs365 says:

Don’t look for any changes to improve the team by trade deadline..if these guys can’t get it done we’ll have to wait till oct-2011

  6. Jimmy9Toes says:

Sorry, hit the post comment twice.

  7. Jimmy9Toes says:

Some Oiler fan posted a 6-2 Oiler win on Hockey Buzz. I am thinking more like 5-1 for the Habs!

  8. Bugs says:

The audacity of such claims from delusional hockey fans like that Oiler clown really gets me seethin. They really go over the line with their partisanship sometimes.

We should find that guy and firebomb his effin car in my opinion.

    …6-2 oilers…c’mon!

  9. samTHEman says:!/habsinsideout1

Don’t tell me Tony Marinaro is spreading retarded false rumours again…

  10. WestHab says:

    – Who will be at the Heritage Classic?

  11. _Habsoloutly_ says:

    Probably just wishful thinking.

  12. Da Hema says:

Jimmy9Toes: are you related to Jimmy the Nose from Chicago or Frankie Four Fingers from Brooklyn?

    Just curious.

  13. Mike D says:

halfway thru the 1st period and the Booins are already up 3-0 on the Isles.  Looks like we’re not taking over 1st place tonight even if we get 2 points.

Hopefully the Isles mount a primo comeback, or at least beat the crap outta them.

    – Honestly yours

  14. LA Loyalist says:

    General ?

When a player is seriously injured, a la Markov, etc. and their $ comes off the cap, who actually pays the players? Is there secondary insurance that kicks in if the injury is over a certain length of time, or…?

On a film, for example, you have a completion guaranty which the producers buy, which under various contingencies will pay out, like any insurance, to complete the picture.

    Just curious. Meds working overtime.

  15. wotever says:

Give credit where credit is due – the Bulldogs’ll be there too.

    It’s just a game.

  16. Guy-Guy-Guy says:

Most likely the teams keeps paying their salary as per the contract,  it just doesn’t count against the cap.

  17. Da Hema says:

I am concerned any time a fella named Jimmy9Toes talks about a “hit.”

  18. Bugs says:

    Habs and Flames.

  19. fbkj says:

Nope, no mob connections, at least that i know of.

  31. Jimmy9Toes says:

Well it was a workplace accident 20 years ago, and no HITS were involved.

  32. samTHEman says:

Ryan White better not get sent down when Cammy is back in the line up!!!!!

  33. samTHEman says:

Andrea Kostitsinne breaks her scoring slump tonight

  34. samTHEman says:

According to RDS Joel Bouchard just now, Mara is in Edmonton but his equipment hasn’t arrived from Anaheim yet.

means Nash is playing. I don’t like that he picked the #47. My heart beats hard when I see that number…props MAB…props

  35. Duracell3 says:

The team pays them regularly for a markovesque situation. That is unless the player doesn’t play again/retires from it. Then there is an insurance payment (see Steve Moore, Berard, etc.) To my knowledge there is an NHL wide insurance (probably taken out of regularly) and then players have private insurance. Berard’s case is interesting however in that he returned his insurance settlement when he decided to come back after losing most of his vision.

  36. samTHEman says:

    Great question lmao. Apparently not.

  37. fbkj says:

    i blame expedia

  38. Mike D says:

    Thanks Sam.

What’s with the equipment not travelling with the player??  The same thing happened to Price recently.  Doesn’t the equipment go under the same plane carrying the player where the luggage normally goes?

    – Honestly yours

  39. fbkj says:

oh noes, not t3h mabs :(

  40. Jimmy9Toes says:

I blame Air Canada. I flew with them on my way back from the Allstar Game. All of my flights were late and had to spend the night in Edmonton before making it home the next day.

  41. fbkj says:

oh about ruutu? i was chuckling at that before

  42. RC-51 says:

Oh no here we go again. Some things will never change!

  43. TomNickle says:

Everyone’s favourite cellar dwellar Eklund throwing a temper tantrum after somebody accused him of posting breaking news based on tweets.  It’s a must read.

  44. fbkj says:

i think its safe to say that eller will be the odd man out when cammy gets back

  45. fbkj says:

im ocd and i stick to my template… :/

  46. Mike D says:

Agreed.  I like the guy and I think he has potential, but he’s not helping much at the moment.

    – Honestly yours

  47. Mike D says:

I mean seriously, who’s in charge of this horse and pony show?

    – Honestly yours

  48. TomNickle says:

I thought it was hilarious.  Don’t accuse me of ripping off the news of others or you aren’t allowed to read me.  Absolutely frigging hilarious.  First of all, everybody in the media does it, I don’t know why he’d take offense to the accusation.  Second, if he put a name to his rumours he’d garner the kind of respect and benefit of the doubt that most media members get.  A victim of his own creation.  Gotta love it.

  49. Hobie Hansen says:

Let’s go boys! Too bad Mara’s gear didn’t make it but at least we get to see Nash take a spin for another night. Pacioretty on one line, Pouliot on another, one more big body at the deadline and our size issue isn’t an issue…Maybe Penner changes dressing rooms before the end of the night??? GO HABS GO!

  50. fbkj says:

last time i flew air canada was comming back from newark from the habs/devils game

my flight was sheduled for 3 in the afternoon, direct (i HATE connecting flights and pay a premium to avoid)

and i get an email saying “oh hi your flights now at 7 to toronto where youll have a 3 hour wait before you go to montreal lol”

i call air canada, they put me on a 3:30 flight to toronto with connecting to montreal at 5

    i was still livid

i get to newark, because air canada is part of the “alliance” program, the AC employees at newark put me on a direct to montreal at 2:30 on continental…

    but happy endings

  52. samTHEman says:

Ek tweeted it at February 17, 2011, 5:56 PM ET

Cant tell exactly when Dreger tweeted it. Twitter doesnt say the exact time it just says “3 hours ago”.

  53. habs365 says:

let’s hope wisniewski is o.k. and can return tonight! let’s hope it’s not a broken orbital or damage to the sinus cavity because if it is he’s done for the season! we’re praying for you wiz!

  60. Hobie Hansen says:

It’s hard to settle things down with a junior team playing on the back end…Moen, white, Pacioretty and Pouliot have to keep the puck at the other end of the ice for the rest of the game…

  61. Ian Cobb says:

    Wiz done for two weeks!

Gauthier will be burning the phone lines again tonight.!

  62. Hobie Hansen says:

    pay for cable ya cheap…

  63. slapshot777 says:

Louis Jean: Wizniewski was hit by puck in the face and will not return. He was taken to hospital for observation.

To you from failing hands we throw the torch, be yours to hold it high.

  72. Led says:

If it’s not an eye or broken jaw he’ll be back next game.

  73. fbkj says:

then why were you asking for a link?

  74. observer says:

    where? just about anywhere.

  75. Habnofear says:

    At 7 million he’s no Steve Austin……………………

  76. dre1744 says:

I hate it The habs always struggle when they come out west. And all these injuries aren’t making things better.

Oh why doesn’t anyone give Eberle credit for a well placed shot instead of crapping on Price. If one of our boys scores that exact goal everyone on here would be wow so and so scored a wonderful goal. Third goal i think Price had an brain fart on.

  77. observer says:

pouliot has been one of the few bright spots lately.

  78. Habnofear says:

More like Poor friggin Hab fans……

  79. J Haul says:

agreed. One of the very few times anyone showed any heart tonight. It’s too bad that it takes a rotten, uncalled hit from behind. nhl refs are the worst.

  80. RC-51 says:

That’s it I’ve had it I’m not watching this team anymore!……

    til Sunday that is!

  81. observer says:

no halak to save them this time.

  82. MTLForever says:

loved him all year, especially lately. this is why he was taken 4th overall in the 1st round.

  83. J Haul says:

these idiots should be ashamed of themselves. can’t ever get up for the junk teams.

  84. observer says:

so with gill, spacek and mara playing this team will be saved? get real! gauthier had better improve this defense or habs wont get thru the 1st round! and it should have been done soon after markov was lost. that is all on gauthier.

  85. Bugs says:

    Poor friggin Eller, eh?

  86. MTLForever says:

  87. Bugs says:

My boy was being double-shifted; Dezzy and Darche had to wait for’m to catch his breath.

  88. observer says:

#2- The defense has too many old defensemen.

  89. observer says:

    khabibulin played like a pro.

  90. dallyd31 says:

I’m really not sure what people expect.  5 of our 7 defenseman out and our top sniper out as well

What do people expect.  We’re still only 2 points out first in the division and we are playing with and AHL team. Sometimes I think some people are clueless.

  91. Bugs says:

I hope Mara is ready to go on Sunday!

…oh god, what the hell am I saying?

  92. deuce6 says:

    Actually, its just cellar dwellers..

    —————— Yes, I’m a Hab fan..Wanna fight about it?

  93. Olay Olay Olay says:

5 of out top 7 Dman are hurt.

    A. What did you guys think was going to happen?

B How is that the GM’s fault?

  94. RC-51 says:

hit from behind NO PENALTY. 2 thumbs up to pouliot 4 showing some heart!

  95. RC-51 says:

Real Hab fans watch til the end win or lose!

  96. observer says:

it was over when they couldnt take the lead in the 2nd period despite outplaying edm.

  97. observer says:

blame gainey/gauthier for signing him to that deal. this defense stinks everyone knew it gauthier and his advisor have ignored it for years.

  98. adam76 says:

why am I still watching this?

  99. adam76 says:

I didn;t know the game was over

  100. RC-51 says:

    Why isn’t Pacs playing w/Pleks,Gio?

  101. deuce6 says:

Paul Mara is supposed to fix this? lol

    —————— Yes, I’m a Hab fan..Wanna fight about it?

  102. Brown_Hab_Fan says:

Is it just me or does everytime Hamrlik touch the puck you get nervous? And Gomez may be a puck moving forward but we really need to maybe stratch him or AK47….AK47 shows glimpses of when he chooses to skate, and then just stops trying

  103. observer says:

lose to the islanders twice in a row now lose to the oilers twice in a row – blame me you freaks!

  104. Nahlsy says:

Like I said elsewhere, when your second most senior member of the blueline is currently eligible for the Calder and the Oilers are taking advantage of your defence’s inexperience… you’re some serious doo doo.

No team can lose 5 of it’s top 6 or 7 defenders and still be expected to look like a well polished defensive machine out there. It’s going to be some scary stuff for a bit while they scratch and scrape just to find 6 healthy bodies to start on their blueline… let alone 6 NHL callibre Defenders. Let’s hope Wiz isn’t broken too badly.

  105. habstrinifan says:

I think you are overlooking many things here.

    a) Our recent record is under 500.
    b) We have not really convincingly won maybe with the exception of Toronto game.
    c) We are showing no signs of any of our players, including the goalie now, taking their game to the next step.
    d) We have to scratch for each bleedy win. And this has been going on for TOO LONG.

Are we secure in a playoff spot? I wont look until after trade deadline. If we have done done nothing, regardless of our position, then I am just gonna treat the playoffs as a crapshoot.

  106. habstrinifan says:

You are WRONG! I have taken up the cry for Larry Robinson manytimes. Asked again and again why he was ignored? And also I have asked that we have a Claude Ruel type development coach. I am always bemused when I hear about our scratches etc ‘skating on their own’. What the f does that mean I dont know.

You wont see any ‘extra’ coaches now.. only a secure head coach does something like that. I dont think JM is.

  107. habs99 says:

You’re preaching to the choir Ian!

Let’s not forget to add we lost a defensive within the game.  Anyone that plays shift hockey can tell you how the 3rd period (where we showed signs of fatigue) catches up to you when down to 5 DMEN.

Not to mention that Cammy is out…somebody forgot to tell AK46 its his contract year…Plekanec is getting tired from playing defensive hockey to play any offensive and unfortunately Gionta/Pacioretty cant score every game.

PG has some tough decisions for him.  If he can land a top 6 that is not a rental then it might be the best bet long run as our injured guys will be coming long term.  Hammer’s contract comes off the books in the off-season, so that might be the right time to get our D, where we can have money to resign Wisnewski.

With Van, Bos, TB also looking for Dmen, it may be too high a price for us to get in this mix and might serve PG better to wait till off-season and give these young’ins experience and get a PF (top 6) instead.

  108. SeriousFan09 says:

The market for defensive strength is what we call a seller’s group right now. Vancouver is crippled as much as MTL is at the back end. Boston wants either a new puck-mover or a defensive defencemen. Tampa Bay know they need better D, as does Dallas, San Jose really hasn’t filled in the void left by Rob Blake either. If anyone has a D that could really change things they will want a significant payment for them.

I don’t see a good deal for the Habs buying defensive rentals, we have the cap space of course but we can’t just take a player, we have to give something back. Right now, the trade deadline is where sellers will extort anyone looking to heavily contend and the Habs can’t get caught playing that game. This isn’t a year for splashs unless we’re landing a long-term asset at a good price.

This summer, Hamrlik comes off the books, that makes room. The Habs can potentially get Alexei Yemelin or trade for someone of his type, there’s a lot of greybeard D in the next free agency period and those who aren’t will be expensive to say the least. The Canadiens do not have the luxury of dealing the prospects we have for rental types, we don’t have enough good assets to just casually deal them.

    – I shall always remember Captain Koivu. Habs and Hockey.

  109. Trisomy 21 says:

Are you a doctor? if not you should consider getting a job at a hospital, someone who can spot broken bones without x rays would be very useful and save lots of resources. Or do you have so much experience looking at broken cheekbones?

Nick Kypreos tweeted “Fear out of Edmonton is Wisniewski suffered a broken cheekbone. Keep an eye on Montreal’s interest escalating for Eric Brewer.”

Good thing you got a day job

  110. LA Loyalist says:

His father had just died when he first came here (Poo) and he seemed to have some confidence issues, not sure. But he has shown some really slick talent and as he matures I think he will be great for us.

  111. deuce6 says:

Nope..But a concussion may be an after thought, eh?

He took a pretty good shot to the noggin there..Knowing our luck, he’s gone for the year..

    —————— Yes, I’m a Hab fan..Wanna fight about it?

  112. rogieshan says:

I just wish Martin would stop plugging Moen in as a top-six forward and slump buster for Gomez and Kostitsyn.

  113. LA Loyalist says:

You raise a GREAT point and I’d love to see it discussed here — why the helicopter do we not have a defense coach? This has bothered me and the few times I’ve posted it no one has really run with it on HIO. I guess Rick Green was the last, and I’m not sure that his duties were that specific.

Apparently (and I don’t know if this is true or urban myth) Larry Robinson called and was ignored.

Do any of the top teams have dedicated defense coaches? I’m not saying we have to go all NFL, but I think it would be a great idea.

  114. HabFarmer says:

Ya notice Vancouver lost tonight?  Eventually the well runs dry bro.  Not even Gandalf can make something out of nothing (or at least very little).  This is the situation both the Habs and the Cannots are going to find themselves in.  But all credit for trying hard in spite of the situation.

A man’s attitude… a man’s attitude goes some ways. The way his life will be. Is that somethin’ you agree with?

  115. SeriousFan09 says:

That is the worst spelling of Derek Boogaard I’ve ever seen.

    – I shall always remember Captain Koivu. Habs and Hockey.

  116. HabFarmer says:

What’s your age son? Played in the NHL much?

    Just askin’….

A man’s attitude… a man’s attitude goes some ways. The way his life will be. Is that somethin’ you agree with?

  117. Ian Cobb says:

5 of 7 defence men from our roster are in sick bay. With only the Hammer and PK left holding the bag. Tough sledding for a while.

This is a great opportunity for the kids to get some experience at this level.

We are going to be positioned just fine come April 9th boys and girls.

  118. Stooof says:

I agree with you that a defensive D is needed, but to be fair, Gorges is just that and is young.  he is mid twenties and will become that really great defensive D we need.  As well, Markov though he was a unmatched talent on offense, he is also a pretty sound defensive D in his zone.  He controls the play and moves the puck out so well that he counts as both.

This year would be hella different if our D was comprised of

    Markov- Gorges

    Gill- subban

    I mean seriously.

  119. Mattyleg says:

Yeah! Nice! You’ve been right since day one too!

Went to the Eastern Conference Finals last year! Boo!

We’re comfortably in a playoff spot, and just out of 3rd in the East! Boo!

Yeah! I wish I was as right as you!

    —Hope Springs Eternal—

  120. Mattyleg says:

Thanks for your input. It’s really useful.

    Just sayin’.

    —Hope Springs Eternal—

  121. Drive_For_25 says:

Roman Hamrlik is the worst player in the NHL.  Just sayin.

  122. Drive_For_25 says:

It was a great play by Eberle, he was just beaten by Price and was lucky to get it under his arm like that.  Price left him no room to score and just let one squeak through.

  123. habfan1969 says:

First of all, I agree on the previous post about Gomez, anyone so fixated onto his salary to expect miracles every game should follow another team (maybe Tampa, to see how well Vinny earns his $10m per season through the late 20-teens …)

This is when someone like Gomez is a big plus — he steps up more than usual when everyone else is having an off night. He’ll be increasingly visible into the stretch and then the playoffs, where his example and leadership starts adding even more. There was just about zero criticism of Gomez all through last year’s playoffs, because he was one of our best. He’ll be there for us again.

To me, the main question for awhile has been Defense. Where to start — Markov was always more an offensive D-man, a great one but we never did have his equivalent on defensive D, not for many years. No habs D-man from the past 20 years will come close to having a sweater retired or a spot on a HOF ballot, not Markov or Desjardins or anyone else.

Said it before, will say it again — right now our D is worse than it looks, and conversely our offense is better than it looks. We have such a defensive system on top of such bad D that our forwards spend way more time focused on defensive play than they should. If we had an adequate, solid defensive D-corps, our offense could open up a LOT more, we would score more while having better defense. Nevermind the hopes that Markov would bounce back or that Gorges would never require surgery, last summer was the time to add solid experienced D to the lineup. Gauthier dropped the ball on this and Mara’s sudden signing is not a good start to catch up. (Although I’m sure happy he didn’t go for MAB!)

Right now, with the gazillions we have in cap space (Gorges, Markov and over a month of Cammy on LTIR), and the prospect-filled pipeline making draft picks less important to our near future, there”s no reason why we aren’t the league’s top buyers/ traders for the absolute top D talent available. Gauthier has to make it happen. A D-corps comprised of geezers on their last legs and freshmen in their 1st or 2nd season plus some mediocre journeyman will not get us much further this year or next.

And maybe a dedicated assistant coach for defense would help — Martin is a defensive head coach but that’s different from someone devoted to analysing D performance and working with them on solutions. Like I mentioned, with Martin in charge, the offense already spends more time on defensive plays than they should, more so when our D sucks like it does lately. If anything, recent completion issues make me think the coach needs to drill forwards on OFFENSIVE plays, practicing close-angle shots and 1-2 passes etc., more so than any team D drills.

  124. SeriousFan09 says:

Ryan Miller did something like 25 consecutive starts this season, than they called up Jonas Enroth to start a game because thy didn’t trust Lalime. He can’t make a big stop and you can’t have that when you do the playoffs.

  129. jimmy shaker says:

It only looked nice because price wasn’t square and was flat on his line, giving eberle the chance to beat him.  Jones’ goal was also a softie.  I don’t expect price to save everything, but I do expect the number 1 tender to make the easy saves and if he does get beat, get beat on cross crease goals, deflections, screens, but not on the second and third goals edmonton scored tonight.  Yes Price made some big key saves, but the routine saves were the ones that bit him and the team tonight.  Not mad at price or hating on price, just being honest about his performance, he would be the first to admit he should’ve had those two goals!

  130. Stooof says:

and btw noone was satisfied with the team that lost markov. We were all super pissed off.  I cursed at the screen every game that it sucked markov got injured AGAIN!  but you can’t replace players like that.  When a team has a player like that they hold onto them until there is no other way to keep em.  So our team was what it was.  Satisfied? no, unsatisfied? no.  Pissed? yes.

  131. HardHabits says:

Nice. Doesn’t look like the cheekbone was broken.

  132. LA Loyalist says:

Pouliot is coming along really nicely, he has pure talent, you can see it. That was a good risk as disappointing as the Tender one was.

  133. observer says:

i thought he was a bad trade, i also thought they shouldnt have raised him last summer – his play this year has convinced me the opposite – i really like him, same for pacoretti, weber, subban, price, desharnais, white a bunch of these young players – but some of those old guys are nearing the end of 6the line. especially on that very old defense.

  134. observer says:

i thought i was supposed to be tony?

  135. MTLForever says:

you can NOT blame price here. give me a break. eberle had a nice placed goal.

  136. dre1744 says:

It actually looks  like the guys  overlooked the oilers tonight  in anticipation of the big sunday outdoor game.

  137. _Habsoloutly_ says:

Screw Eller Bugs, what about the moxy Poo Poo showed when he fed that guy the knuckle sandwhiches?

  138. MTLForever says:

trolls are hilarious. same with the people hitting the panic button. 2 pts outta 1st in the division. yeah we lost to EDM…5/7 of our top d are out. dallas just lost 4-1 to edm also and the oilers are really fast paced team that will be deadly in a few years. give them credit. i know our guys werent that great tonight but calm down.

  139. MTLForever says:

i’d love to see him get to play with plek for a game and see how he does but he plays really well with the guys lower on the depth chart so i dont know. hes definitely showing everyone he should stay here. i wouldnt trade him at all.

  140. observer says:

we will see some top defensemen move in the next 2 weeks. you have to give up something to get something. “mortgage the future”? just who are you talking about? this team has traded away so many #1 and #2 picks since gainey/gauthier has been here plus players they themselves had drafted #1.

  141. observer says:

he’s heavier this year, seems more energenic, not the least be scared to mix it up, and frankly is becoming a threat with the puck. pacoretti and him are 2 forwards of size for this team for the future.

  142. dallyd31 says:

This is almost comical…we have injuries, deal with it.  What is PG supposed to do ?  Trade Pleks for a top flight dman to replace Markov.  Yeah, that would help. Some people

Top dmen don’t come cheap. We are decimated with injuries.  Nobody’s fault, we just have to play though and hope for the best with what we have.

  143. Stooof says:

Yea i think you missed the point.  Noone is giving up “quality” defensman> unless you mortgage your future.  I would have been very disapointed to see our GM trade 2 prospects and a high pick to find anyone even close to markov in terms of skill.  So they stood pat and you know what?  we are 1 point behind washington and 2 behind 3rd place.  Give it up dude.  This isnt nhl 11 on your ps3 where you can work any trade you like.  Teams hold onto quality D becasue they are just that.  You think another team in our position could just call us up and say “hey, my best d is down, I want Jorges.  Ill give you a 3rd and this random player.

    WAKE UP!

  144. Bugs says:

Point is you were dead wrong then, so absolutely no reason for you to be right now.

  145. SeriousFan09 says:

Because MTL doesn’t have scoring talent on the level of Kesler and the Sedins, plus support scorers like Burrows and Samuelsson to play with them? Just a thought. Oh and VAN has lost 3 of their last 5 as well.

Jacques Martin coached 1st-place OTT teams when his starting goaltender was Patrick Lalime. Imagine what he might’ve done with a goalie who could stop a beach ball.

  149. Olay Olay Olay says:

By the way the 2 Dman who are left are 37 yrs old and a rookie.

  150. jimmy shaker says:

Where did DD and darche go to?  yes PK pinched and went for the big hit, but price has to have eberle’s goal, and yes nash fell and led to the 3rd oiler goal, but again price has to have that goal.  The whole team sucked tonight, it was a very bad game, but I’m saying Price wasn’t on and cost us this one or potential points.  There was no way we deserved to win tonight, but if Carey makes those two saves, the boys at least get the single and maybe a chance to sneak out the other point in OT or the shootout.  Thought Auld should’ve got this game and Carey the classic on sunday and canucks on Tuesday.  Oh well, we got Mara at least!  yay!

  151. deuce6 says:

With all due respect, we have 4 of our top 6 d-man out, not including Wiz..We are decimated with injuries and we won’t over come them with trading for Paul Maras..Just keep the damn picks/prospects and gut it out with the kids..

    —————— Yes, I’m a Hab fan..Wanna fight about it?

  152. SeriousFan09 says:

Because PG hasn’t traded for Shea Weber, duh.

  154. Bugs says:

Feh, that’s what you said last year…

  155. Stooof says:

HAHAHAH yea why didnt he go out and get shea webber right off the bat.  And and.. and lindstrom.. and you know chara woulda been nice.  I cant beileve he didnt go trade for the best defensman in the league cause ours was hurt.  JEez what kinda jm is he..  LIKE he should have traded for byfulgian and enstrom and all the other best d out tehre.   when ours went down i cant believe he didnt trade for bieska and … like lindstrom.

  156. deggy24 says:

Don’t understand the Gomez hate. He was clearly a more effective player than Plekanec. You gotta wonder what happened to the forecheck. They sure got out of their zone easily for the last half of the game. I see something in Weber, much better player than last year. Show him those Zubov videos, that is his ideal prototype. Gionta was a ghost for most of the game but managed a few shots later on. Was a fun game to watch until it went from 1-1 to 3-1.
good games? PK, Gomer, AK (1st half), Eller (1st half), Hammer (1st half)
    bad games? Plekanec, Darche
benefit of the doubt? the rest, especially the kid Nash

  157. Habnofear says:

    good one ,thanx……

  158. observer says:

as i said above so when mara, gill and spacek play all will be ok? get real!

  159. Qikdraw says:

The idea to fire Jm is not a joke,Jm is the joke from day one I have always thought he shouldn’t be the coach.Every loss is the coach, excuse of injuries pfft… look at Vancouver four defence down, key difference there is a hella of a better coach in Vancouver. So what if he won a few games in Ottawa with that line up Ron Wilson would have look good as coach too.

  160. Cool Ice Price says:

Price cost us this one! Oh really? The hope is to sqweak into OT for the sure one point & the other point is gravy? HABS SUCK AT SCORING GOALS

  161. observer says:

thats right he lost a quality defensemen leaving a hole in the value of the roster. you go out and get the highest quality defenseman out there to replace him or you have a worse team. and if fans like you are satisfied that the team is worse – well like vince lombardi said ”
a good loser is always a loser”!

  162. observer says:

should get a few more points for $7 million

  163. Bugs says:

    Ok, thanks, Tony.

  164. jimmy shaker says:

If he doesn’t let the second and third softies in then yes we get the single and somehow maybe a chance for the deuce in OT/shootout.  What’s the big deal?  Price wasn’t the only player that sucked, the whole team did basically…..but Carey needed those two saves and they roll out of edmonton with at least a point is the bottom line.

  165. MTLForever says:

wake up, eberle had a nice goal. seriously. he didnt play like crap. did you see all his key saves, we couldve been down big time after the first.

  166. 134 says:

Dave Stubbs just twitted Wiz’s picture from the hospital. Brutal…. Thank goodness it’s no on his eye.

  167. Stooof says:

If I see one top flight D go for less than a top nhl ready prospect at least and then some picks I will eat my words.  But just who are you talking about?

We let mcdonough go for a potential top center.  Gomez has his ups and downs and this year is absolutely brutal. Other than that we have had many of our prospects not pan out.  as well a couple second round picks for some decent players.

Right now they are sitting on quite a few young guys with great potential, and they would be in the cost of a “d to replace markov”. Markov is a top d in the league.  As in, take any teams #1 d and that is what markov is equal to. But again, I think you msis the point.  Those players dont get traded away these days.

  168. Qikdraw says:

True they lost a few too, but  at least they didn’t lose to teams with less the 50 points and come on Lalime is not that bad, he is still playing in this league albeit as back up.

  169. observer says:

dallas has won 2 of their last 11 games AND are tied with calgary and others for as low as 9th place!

  170. Drive_For_25 says:

It was a great play by Eberle, he was just beaten by Price and was lucky to get it under his arm like that.  Price left him no room to score and just let one squeak through.

  171. observer says:

top players get traded, etc. and they cost something. remember hossa? got pitts to the cup final. got det there too and chi to the cup when they signed him. pollock got mahovlich for the habs and his brother too and they won cups. gauthier has never pulled a blockbuster trade that worked in his life. and he did trade away selanne and kariya and others. i have no confidence in a guy who in 30 years in the league never won it all.

  172. Trisomy 21 says:

You’re being an idiot. By your standards a number 1 goalie should stop all shots that aren’t screen shots, deflections or 2-0’s. Every single goalie lets this kind of shot in, and sometimes they stop them too. Here’s a news flash, Price stopped some of them today too. You’re demanding too much. Demand more goals, we can’t win scoring 1 goal. We can’t win averaging 2.5 goals per game. Smarten up

  173. LA Loyalist says:

If Wiz is down for more than a game or two that is an unbelievable run on our D. Geez.

  174. The Cat says:

Saying Lalime couldnt stop a beachball is a very ignorant statement. He was more than solid in the playoffs. The sens couldnt score.

  175. LA Loyalist says:

Dirk Bogard? Made some great movies.

  176. observer says:

nash, weber, picard and subban – all 4 first full year if full away from ahl. because gauthier did not take care of business starting the day markov was hurt. now more old defensemen are out so is gorges. and he trades for mara with tons of cap room. i did not just faoll off the turnip truck.

  177. observer says:

they are on the ice because gauthier cant play the gm game!

  178. observer says:

2nd goal and the game – subban trying to do too much coughed up the puck and it ended in habs net. game over!

  179. adam76 says:

  189. observer says:

thats it! the excuse! if mara’s equipment would have arrived habs would have won! a great trade by gauthier destroyed by bad luck. 23 of 25 mara was a healthy scratch. now his equipment was a healthy scratch and this big league business had no equipment that would fit him. whatta joke!

  198. Mike D says:

Hemsky’s constant injuries render him useless.

    Penner’s uselessness renders him useless.

Seriously, what’s with all the Penner crap on here that he’s our Godsend power forward?!?! For those of you who feel this way, there’s probably people on Oilers Inside/Out (or whatever their equivalent is) that would love to get AK46 for Penner cuz he’s just as enigmatic, but is 1mil cheaper and a year or two younger.

STOP the Penner madness FFS! It’s a bad trade!

Plecs line did nothing, no intensity, no forecheck, Khabibulin had an easy night of it in spite of the shots we had. Gomez in alone, misses the net, Pk in all alone, misses the net, and how bad is it when hands of stone Moen gets most of your chances??? the Oilers barely had to break a sweat for the win. So what is it exactly that motivates this frickin team to show up?
