• At a Glance: The Colorado Avalanche won a wild game at the Bell Centre on Saturday night, winning 6-5 in a shootout over the Canadiens, who remain winless at home. Chuck Kobasew opened the scoring 4:51 into the game on a shot Carey Price would definitely like a second attempt at. Max Pacioretty got that one back for the Canadiens when he corralled a rebound in front of Semyon Varlamov’s net. It took him two tries, but Pacioretty found an opening under Varlamov’s arm and put the puck into the next at the 10:31 mark. The teams traded five goals in the second period. The Canadiens took a 2-1 lead 1:35 into the second period when Tomas Plekanec blasted a shot past Varlamov during a 5-on-3 power play. The Avalanche got their own power-play goal at 11:37 when David Jones beat Price to the glove side only seconds after a faceoff. Then, less than a minute later, Paul Stastny picked P.K. Subban’s pocket and went it alone on Price and slipping one between the goaltender’s pads to make it 3-2 Colorado. Before the end of the period, however, Travis Moen tied the game 3-3 with about four minutes to play. Jones restored the Avalanche lead when he scored with the team’s playing 4-on-4 with 1:18 to play. The Canadiens took the lead in the third period with two quick goals. Captain Brian Gionta got his first of the season at 12:57 when, with his back to Varlamov, backhanded a shot between the goalie’s legs. Only 20 seconds later, David Desharnais got his first of the season when he redirected a pass from Pacioretty. But the 5-4 lead was short lived because Kyle Quincey scored with a one-time during a power play at 15:57.
• What It Means: Carey Price’s quest for his 100th NHL victory remains on hold. The Canadiens are now 1-2-1 on the season
• What’s Next: The Buffalo Sabres are in Montreal on Tuesday night before the Canadiens head to Pittsburgh to take on the Penguins on Thursday. Next Saturday, the Maple Leafs are in Montreal for the second game between the two teams this season. Toronto won the season opener 2-0.

Or at the very least something about the weak blue line. As much as I absolutely love Gorges, if he’s showing up each night as the team’s best performing D-man, we’re in massive trouble.

You’re right, I’m just worried about our offense not backing him up with some goals. Even if price was better last game we still would have lost.

Losing is one thing, but not looking like they are trying or care is a BIG concern. I hope they turn it up a notch on the ice and in-between their ears tonight.
