Another road game, another loss.

The Canadiens scored before the game was a minute old and played a solid first period.

Then a pair of Too Many Men penalties inside of a minute opened the door for a Martin St. Louis’s power-play goal that brought the home team to life ā€“ and sealed the Canadiens deeper into the tomb they’ve inhabited through this road trip.

Steven Stamkos scored twice, including a penalty-shot spinerama that infuriated Carey Price.

For habs farmhand Cedrick Desjardins gave up a goal on the first shot he faced, then made 24 saves.

Not hat he was under any great pressure from a popgun Habs attack and a power-play that went 0-for-5.

Not much time to mope.

The Canadiens play Florida at 5 p.m. tomorrow.

They’ve already left. It’s just that we have to pay them for the remainder of the year.

Lafleur, coming out rather gingerly on the right side.

  2. habstrinifan says:

That was the one enjoyable sight in the game for a HABS fan. Not the goal .. it was a fluke. But the speed of Max Pac.. which was demonstrated twice in the game. WOW!Hope we get to see him under an offensively geared coach.

  3. ManApart says:

You’re starting to see what I’ve seen for 2 years. It’s just the beginning.

  4. observer says:

gainey thought gomez and his salary was an excellent move by him.

  7. observer says:

I thought that young Tampa Bay coach(as opposed to old Habs coach) and that netminder were with Hamilton who is owned by Molso, but old GMs Gauthier and Gainey didn’t want a young guy coaching the Habs? Wasn’t Bowmanyoung when he coached the Habs. How old is Gauthier and Martin and Gainey planning on being there? As long as Joe Paterno?

  8. observer says:

Gainey’s expensive wasted signings. A very low IQd general manager. Maybe suffered many concussions but in those days they never tested.

  9. WindsorHab-10 says:

Loss of drive and commitment to play 60 minutes fall squarely on JM’s lap. He’s a pathetic coach with no system and an empty space between the ears. Talk about lack of size or talent all you want, it’s obvious that this team has quit playing for this tool of acoach. After this pathetic 1 & 6 road trip(yes they’ll lose tomorrow), if JM kepps his job then the hell with this season & the Molsons.

    HAPPY NEW YEAR.

  10. Bugs says:

    Dear Habs,

Could we please not lose this time? It’s gettin friggin monotonous, you know? Mix it up a bit. And show some friggin life, why dontchehs?

    Thanks.

    Unquestionably unquestionable, I think Iā€™m

Guys, what the hell is wrong?

I’ve ranted enough — for a total of 10, please weight the following with points as to the problem: eg if you think it’s all Martin, put Martin: 10 half talent, half Martin, put 5/5…

What is wrong with the Habs (total 10)

    Coaching:

    Lack of Talent:

    Lack of Effort:

Not looking good. Do we have a coach behind the bench? Obviously Tampa made some adjustments and the Jock man cannot counter.

  17. tricolore says:

Totally agree. Too bad he hit the post in the first. I think as the game progresses we’ll see more of him and hopefully less of Hamrhead and Spacehead.

Lafleur, coming out rather gingerly on the right side.

  18. tricolore says:

Lack of concentration and professionalism on the part of the Habs bench and players. What on earth? 2 straight Too many men on the ice penalties????? Even Don Cherry would never do that???? Hope the Habs do not completely deflate from this.

C’mon boys…..wake up. You need 5 out of 6 points in the next 3 to stay in the hunt.

Lafleur, coming out rather gingerly on the right side.

I love what I see from Wisniewski so far!

  20. adam76 says:

where does everyone post during the game?

  21. Everlasting1 says:

I won’t call it flukey, but that was a junk goal off a defender’s skate.

  23. JIMVINNY says:

God I hate that penalty.  A bouncing contested puck like that shouldn’t count.  And Hammer seems to take several of those every season.

  24. HabFanSince72 says:

Gives up a goal 1 min into his first NHL game. Poor Cedrick.

maxpac!!. thats the kind of goals we should be getting. a player aggressively driving towards the net

    Speed kills!! MaxPac – afterburners!

  29. LA Loyalist says:

So you’re the guy who bought the OTHER Gomez t-shirt!

P.S. His mom called. She said you can have hers, she’s ashamed to wear it.

  30. Harditya_CareyPrice says:

Very true bud – I am not saying it’s a bad idea, I’d love to see such roster, but the truth is n today’s NHL – you have overpay for a player’s services.

  31. habs365 says:

cap wise..I don’t know if gainey could have done better..looking at their stats..there’s three of them over paid..if they were getting paid what there worth..I think we could have made it without going over the cap..anyway it was just a thought.

  32. Shiloh says:

    1. In a heartbeat.

    2. Players rarely are together long enough to give them a name.

    5. Absolutely.

    6. Not the first two rounds – after that yes.

  33. Harditya_CareyPrice says:

  35. tricolore says:

Boucher names C. Desjardins as his goalie for tonight. I think the kid will shine. Habs will be reminded of what they had and should not have let go…well maybe it could not have been avoided…regardless…I want to be wrong.

I want the Habs to light him up like a pinball machine tonight. Wishful thinking……

Lafleur, coming out rather gingerly on the right side.

  36. kempie says:

Better layer them all. We need the W.

  37. Max_a_million says:

I love Gomez, and am not in favor of burying him in the AHL.

Yes, they should definitely get rid of him if a fairy made it possible.  7.5 million is to much buying power, and gets you a really big time player.

The lines are changed too much to get cool nicknames

How about Eller, Pouliot, Darche = Sand and Pastries line

    I won’t buy $10 beers often, so I couldn’t tell you

The Olympics are pretty darn exciting … if the habs are not in the Stanley Cup I would take the Olympics

If Youppi had been taken someone would have been hurt.  Then again as much as I hate the Washington team, the Presidents are tremendously funny mascots especially when they are racing around banging into walls.

  38. habs365 says:

if Gainey had kept.. Kovalev, Koivu, Tanguay..here’s what our team could look like up front

    1st  Cammy, Pleks, AK46

    2nd  Tanguay, Koivu, Kovalev

    3rd  Pouliot, Gomez, Gionta

    4th  Darche, Halpern, Lapierre

maybe a lot of if’s here

  39. HabFanSince72 says:

    <HI/O mode on>

Do you have seats behind the Habs bench? If so, how about “I’m with stupid”? and make it point towards Martin.

    Pre-Game 2010 Year’s End Questionnaire.

    1. If a  fairy allowed the Habs to get rid of Scott Gomez today (including his cap hit and wages) should they do it?

    2. Why don’t forward lines have names anymore? Is it because coaches always juggle the lines or has the poetry just gone from the game?

    3. Come up with a name for a line from the 2010 Habs (even if it only existed for a few games). (Only one I can come up with is The Bouncing Czechs for Hamr and Spacek).

    4. Is the Molson’s beer at the Bell Ctr watered down (seems that way to me)?

    5. Youppi. Should he have gone to Washington with the Expos?

    6. In 2010 the Olympic hockey tournament was more compelling than the Stanley Cup playoffs, yes or no.

Big decision: which t-shirt to wear tonight? Gomez, Cammalleri, Price, or Gorges?

  46. SLONCOLD says:

ya taking bad penalties means stamkos one timers

  47. Bob_Sacamano says:

    1. Ak 46 is better on the right.

    2. Desharnais as center with White and Eller, really?

    3. Moen, worse than Lapierre and Darche so far this season, has a secure place? Why?

  48. WestHab says:

    Picard

    – Who will be at the Heritage Classic?

  49. Muckbringer says:

it has become go time.  forget blaminging pg or bg.  forget blamming anyone.

  50. observer says:

Not feeling too good about my 2 favorite teams from 11 days ago to today in shock. Habs seemingly have gone bad, my other favorite team, New York Giants 11 days ago had a 21 point lead halfway thru the 4th quarter, just coasting and the win would clinch them their division title and put them in no worse than #2 playoff seed, but they absolutely fell apart starting with the coach’s brain and they even succeeded in losing that game in regulation time and now 11 days later have about no shot to even make the playoffs. Later that night Habs lost in Colorado and are now nearly out of #8.

I still  say it because it is so, both these teams are very decent teams – but the most important thing in pro sports is management and coaching. Giants have a near 65 year old dinosaur as coach, Habs have too much age and lack of success at management level Gauthier 30 years never had a team even play in the Cup finals and Martin who in near 30 years never won a Cup.

They are the age of the players grandfathers. Learned the games when these sports were completely different. Coughlin will be asked to step aside if there is no lockout in NFL, the entire Habs management and head coach should be removed by Molson.

  51. WestHab says:

So it’s great news to have JW in the line up tonight but who sits?

    – Who will be at the Heritage Classic?

  52. samTHEman says:

i like this line up. but you forgot pouliot in there

  53. Chris F says:

With his compete level, it’s a crime Ryan White is not on this team. I realise he’s been hurt, but if not for contracts he made this team out of camp. I don’t have a problem with letting the guy develop, but he’s good enough now.

    Do it. Do it now.

    Ak – Pleks – Gionta

    Cammy – Gomez – Pacioretty

    White – Desharnais – Eller

Lapierre – Halpern – Moen (Darche and Laps compete for their spot-whoever plays better keeps playing)

  54. J_P says:

It certainly doesnt look good.  If they can victimize tampa’s poor goaltending, and stay out of the box, they can win.  Hopefully this is just the typical december slump (which seems to plague the habs every year except for last), and they come out firing in january.

  55. SLONCOLD says:

not feeling good about tonight…. hope the habs wake up and play 2 out of 3 periods atleast…

  56. Chris F says:

Very excited to see Wiz play, seems like he has a great attitude and he’s sincere about wanting to be in Montreal.

Extremely happy Subban and Weber are playing.

When we see a line of Desharnais, White, and (Pacioretty), given some actual minutes, we will see a truly well rounded team. I gaurantee it.

  57. HUDSONHAB says:

I know. As a Habs fan this is what we have to go though every year. We don’t like prosperity. Finishing 8th keeps us humble.

    ….Hab4life….

  58. avatar_58 says:

You say when – if the team doesn’t step it up there won’t be any playoffs. It’s not guarunteed simply because they had a good start. This slide needs to end.

  59. HUDSONHAB says:

I think everyone knows that when he gets to the playoffs, Gomez will step it up. The problem is, Gomez only does enough during the regular season to get to the playoffs. That is very frustrating when the guy gets 7 mil per.

    ….Hab4life….

  60. Sith says:

Desharnais = Gomez to AHL/buy out his contract. Thats a big no no for the organization.
