• At a Glance: The Canadiens enjoyed two-goal leads on three separate occassion over the Bruins on Thursday night, but Boston never quit and fought valiently until the end, but the Canadiens held on for a 4-3 win.
Michael Cammalleri scored the game’s first goal 1:04 in on a penalty shot awarded after Bruins’ Zdeno Chara hooked Cammalleri while on a breakaway. Cammalleri deked Bruins goalie Tim Thomas and lifted the puck over his outstretched leg for a 1-0 lead.
Maxim Lapierre made it 2-0 five minutes later when he popped a rebound beyond Thomas moments after a faceoff win in the Bruins zone.
Blake Wheeler narrowed the gap to 2-1 with about four minutes to play in the period when he fired a shot from a sharp angle that Carey Price got a piece of, but the puck rolled over his pad and trickled over the goal line.
Max Pacioretty, playing in his second game of the season for the Canadiens, made it 3-1 with 30 seconds to play when his backhand shot from behind the goal line went off Bruins defenceman Andre Ference and slid beyond Thomas.
In the second period, Marc Savard pulled the Bruins to within a goal when he scored 6:54 into the period. It was his first goal of the season after missing time because of post-concussion symptoms.
Canadiens captain Brian Gionta re-established the two-goal lead with about three minutes to play when he appeared to redirect a shot by Pacioretty, although replays showed the puck went in off a Bruins defenceman.
Milan Lucic brought the Bruins back to within a goal during a power play when he deflected a Patrice Bergeron shot from the point over Price’s shoulder with about five minutes to play.

• Key Moments: In the second period, Michael Cammalleri got into the first fight of his NHL career with Bruins’ David Krejci.

• What It Means:
Montreal snaps a three-game losing streak, its longest of the season and improves to 19-11-2, opening a four-point lead over the Bruins for top spot in the Northeast Division.

• What’s Next: The Canadiens embark on a seven-game road trip that starts Sunday night in Colorado and then has stops in Dallas and Carolina before Christmas, then the team hits the road again for games against the New York Islanders, Washington Capitals, the Tampa Bay Lightning and Florida Panthers on New Year’s Eve.

Fear not Ian, the kids are alright. One more call in our favour and one less in theirs and that game last night was ours. You missed a dandy! Gio brought the house down with his tying goal. A very memorable night, just didn’t have the happy ending. We’re not beating ourselves every night, just the odd night (like Toranna) We’re getting some unlucky bounces and bad breaks. The type of stuff that builds character (not like we’re lacking character though eh?)

I’ll raise a glass of whiskey tonite with you.

  2. RMc says:

0 mention of habs outplaying Boston for 2 periods and Thomas playing very well to keep it close…just about how montreal is difficult to play against.

  3. mike g says:

    Fearless prediction….

Max Pac will be skating towards the net tonight, and a Beans’ defenseman will trip him, causing him to crash into fat-man Thomas.

Then, Tim will throw a punch to Max out of frustration of being lit up for 5 goals, and a nice big brawl will start.

Hal Gill will grab Lucic, pin him to the glass and shove him down.

    The crowd will go crazy.

PK will shine a huge smile, and start trash talking with Thomas…..

  5. SPATS says:

I stand corrected, however, PK had an impressive solo rush during a line change where he moved the puck with exceptional speed and skill (not sure, cuz I was at the other end of the ice, but it looked like he dangled it and moved it though his skates there too) The place went nuts and we started chanting PK, PK, (not the only time) so I’ll use that to offset his extra blunder… He also head hunted Carcillo from the opening bell which really got us out of our seats. I just wish he hadn’t turned it over (to Richards of all people) for the Giroux hilite reel goal that put the nail in our coffin. That’s the one blunder I can’t forget.

  6. slapshot777 says:

That’s because Maclean actually agrees, but smartly keeps it to himself. Maclean is a Leaf at heart so he is not going to give the Habs and credit for anything. Stock is an idiot, who has absolutely no talent don’t know how he ever made the NHL and how he ever got a job as an analyst. Must do a lot of brown nosing and a$$ kissing. Then you have Milbury, he doesn’t have the sense to come in out of the rain. No matter what the topic, Milbury will always go the opposite. His reasons are asinine, no common sense, he is a long life Bruin, so no turning on them. he always got beat to a snot when playing the Habs and he ever got over it. His answer for everything is a fight. He is a dinosaur.

Way I see it, Poolio is like Megatron what hasn’t been zapped by the All Spark yet. He’s big, dangerous-lookin, and more technologically-advanced than the rest of his brethren NOW, but when he gets zapped by that All Spark, boy, zowie, watch the hell out, knowumsayin?

I hear you man. I loved these Bruins boosters both trying to justify that they “aren’t taking sides”. How transparent can a couple of guys be? Seriously be better off watching this one on NESN, might actually get a little more fair commentary… and that’s saying a lot.

  9. shiram says:

Makes for great Tv doesn’t he?

  10. RMc says:

The CANADIAN taxpayer funded disgrace of a network CBC is incredible when the franco habs are beating the american bruins…what a complete joke.  All they needed was “grapes” in there complaining how russian/euro/french our squad was.

  11. SPATS says:

No apologies necessary SD, There’s no way they could’ve lived up to the last game I attended in 93, At that one, Gretzky watched as Carbo hoisted the cup! Last night’s game was a great team effort and I’m sure the boys are feeling elite… coulda gone either way. I invited Ian Cobb along (I had an extra ticket) but he’s on the mend from kidney stones… too bad, he would’ve been the talisman we needed to reverse the mojo

OOH AAH – HABS ON THE WARPATH!

  12. J Haul says:

hah.. I suppose anything is possible.

I can’t believe the CBC condones their behaviour though. Something has got to be said at some point.

  13. Guy-Guy-Guy says:

PK had one goal, one assist, and finished -2

That means he was on the ice for 4 of Philly’s 5 goals.

  14. Bugs says:

Shout-out to Boudreau who’s gettin ranked out to the dogs’n’back for losin the game after his supposed “motivational” speech.

Bruce, baby? It was a great friggin speech. Stumbled a bit at the “after they score a goal” part but all in all? Great friggin speech, man. I mean that. Hard-hitting, to the point, passionate, perfectly vulgar, 90 seconds, in and out, boom. THAT’S a sporting speech.

    Kudos.

    1. Give MaxPac a letter grade for his 2010-2011 debut. [BUSY] B

    2. Who made more mistakes last night, PK, Spacek, or Stanley? [BUSY] Not Sure.

    3. Aside from blunders, name the one part of our game that needs to change/improve to beat a team like Phili in a series. [BUSY] SPEED! Pass, connect and fire

    4. If it were up to you would you change the lines at all based on last night’s game?[BUSY] Try again with the same lines. 1 night doesnt prove much.

    5.
What do the last couple of games show?  That our team is still coming
together?  That we are not an elite team (good but not elite)? That
something is missing? Or just that we had some bad bounces/a bad little
run?[BUSY] Must maintain confidence and play proof of it.

  16. Habs_Fan_1 says:

I couldn’t agree with you more. They overlook Thornton dropping his gloves at the start of the 1st period and not getting called, but then point out the “missed” calls that favoured Montreal. What would have been nice is MacLean being a voice of reason.

  17. habaddict_andy says:

    1. B+

    2. PK, but Spacek’s mistake was a killer

    3. reduce giveaways

    4. Try AK with Pleks for the whole game, what was his +/- ?

    5. We are still missing top 6 forward.  We need to give Pacioretty more chance and hopefully he will get used to GG line.  But signs are good he will.  Now we need a good defensemen who can eat up minutes and gives others less TOI.

  18. mike g says:

6-2 Habs… We finally wake up and use our speed, and get 6 powerplays, scoring on 3 of them. Pouliot, cammy, gomez, hamrlik, darche and halpern score. Bergeron and horton score for the Beans.

    Montreal 3 Bruins/Refs 2

Montreal goals: Gomez (deflection off knee on shot by Hammer pinching in); Gill, blast from the point, top shelf; Gorges (on end-to-end rush midway through the third to break 2-2 tie).

Check out the blonde in Bruins jersey in third row behind Habs bench, second period. And will that guy down near the front in the opponents’ end quit popping up every time the camera follows the action to that part of the ice.

Just going to sit back (with single malt) and watch to see who is going to step up and pull us out of this skid.

  23. J Haul says:

Let’s be fair here man. The last two games that line has looked great. Generating chances almost every time it hits the ice. Gomez is just as much an equal part of that line as Max and Gionta.

  24. Castor says:

Anyone else feel that this game will decide whether or not the Habs fight for a playoff spot or stay at the top this year?

  25. Guy-Guy-Guy says:

    1)  MaxPac played a good game and re-energized the Gomez line.  I give him an A…  He’ll need a few games to catch up to the pace of the NHL Level

    2) PK

    3)  Too many defensive meltdowns.  Yes,  that was Spacek and PK.  Take away a couple of theses and you have a win.  Can’t have Giroux or Carter alone in front of our net.

I thought our offense did well,  we outshot that team and put 3 pucks behind their goalie.  Philly is one of the toughest teams to score against.

    4)  Try PK up front for a couple of games;  The kid can skate,  he can score,  he can puish their D around.  I think we could reverse Markov him (Didn’t Markov start off up front?)

    5)  Last couple of games prove to me that our team is amongst the best;  we outplayed Detroit (5-on-5), and we outshot Philly.  Both games could have gone either way;  we competed with elite teams and proved to be an apt contender

  30. SPATS says:

I was there, first game since 93 (been in BC)

    1) B+ he made some very nice defensive plays, and looked very comfortable out there, but there were a few times when he could have gone to the front of the net and parked it but didn’t

    2) PK but he made up for 2 of them (he had at least 3 errors)

    3) Earning the respect of the officials and less line juggling

    4) AK & Cammy need Pleks, all americans look great, reunite the PHD line, Eller, Moen and Lappy

    5) We are elite, but the youngsters need to be more disciplined. The officials seem to be watching us more than the other team. I truly believe our boys are taking the positives out of the Detroit game and last night and are forgetting about TO. We had some great bounce back shifts after tough goals against, and the 3rd period comeback was magical until the refs decided to interfere in a playoff type game by giving our hard earned momentum back to Philly.

  31. LA Loyalist says:

Yeah, that blind pass to no one was impressive – at least it was in the offensive zone. (just before the Darche penalty) But hey, for Gomez that’s progress, at least he was IN the offensive zone :) he is playing harder, I’ll give him that.

Why does Spacek always pass through the middle? He does it every damn time and 2-3 times tonight. Yeah man. At least MacLean got that little dig in. Unfortunately, that’s not enough for me. They need to be pulled off that network, especially during Habs broadcasts. No other fans have to put up with this much blatant bias and ignorance during a broadcast.

Two huge points by the Habs last night. Not only do they keep Boston at bay, but did so with some uncharacteristic

physical play that delighted the Bell Centre crowd. You have to love Cammalleri for taking on a much bigger man in

Krejci and giving a good accounting of himself. Now, if only Lapierre could do the same without embarrassing him–

self and the team. I am surprised that they are not peeling Marchand off of P.K. from that monstrous check of his.

A much needed team win and sweeter coming against our closest rival in the Northeast Division. Now, it’s on to the

It was amusing to watch how Boston became unraveled and Milbury and P.J. unnerved. Talk about comedy.

  89. ds says:

I wonder how guys like Milbury and melrose with their poor track records in the NHL keep getting jobs.  Their opinion is worthless because we’ve seen all the excellent moves Milbury has made in the past with the Islanders.  What type of insightful commentary is he even capable of?

Zdeno Chara + A first round pick (Spezza) for Yashin who he signed to the most brutal contract in the history of the NHL, 11 million per year.

Olli Jokinen + Roberto Luongo for Kvasha and someone else

    Bertuzzi & McCabe for Linden

19-Jun-99: New York Islanders traded Zigmund Palffy, Bryan Smolinski,
Marcel Cousineau and 4th round selection (previously acquired from the
New Jersey Devils – Daniel Johansson) in 1999 to the Los Angeles Kings
for Olli Jokinen, Josh Green, Mathieu Biron and 1st round selection
    (Taylor Pyatt) in 1999.

1996-Jan-23 Traded Wade Redden with Damian Rhodes to Ottawa Senators for Don Beaupre, Martin Straka and Bryan Berard

Overall I’d say Milbury sucks, he made worse deals than Keenan and destroyed the Islanders, now suddenly he’s a knowledgeable hockey analyst?  Sort of like Melrose telling us who is not good enough seeing how he said the same thing about Stamkos 2 years ago.

  90. light_n_tasty says:

Ah…nothin’ like the Bruins to cure a Habs’ losing streak.  Works every time!

  91. light_n_tasty says:

To be fair, CBC pours all of their money into Don Cherry, and can’t really afford much else.

  92. LeeFree says:

Milbury is a joke, Stock a running second. Imagine using the word cockroaches. I shook my head in disgust. Always biased commentary on the CBC; if it’s not the other clown Cherry, it’s these two buffoon’s. They can take Bill Watters with his “nobody knows more hockey than us ” bullcrap, too. Time to take French lessons.

Oh g*d forbid anyone disagree with a genius like you, joey. Do you plan on letting the universe continue for a little while?

P.S. Last year Price did suck. This year Price is great. That’s not contradictory, that’s maturity that came from the shock of losing his job to Halak.

  94. RMc says:

    these refs are bullshit

  95. VancouverHab says:

Dude: Gomez only played in one of those games.

The two he wasn’t in we were just appalling–the one he was in he energised the team, got a couple of points and added to a great team improvement.

  96. homerbowen says:

    After the past 3 games…some of my thougts are;

    - Gomez is a waste of a Habs uniform

    - Too many small players on one team

    - PK suffering because of Martin’s benching

    - Pouliot is way too soft

    - Can Eller really play in the NHL

    - AK needs to be moved

    - Most are playing like pussies, too soft but if they try any rough stuff they would be beaten badly

Prognosis…slip into the playoffs and bounced badly in the 1st round as we’re not going to surprise anyone 2 years in a row.

  97. HabFanSince72 says:

    Here, have a prozac.

  98. habfan53 says:

    - Not a waste of uniform but of money (this year)

    - It’s not that our players are small it’s just that the bigger ones play small

    - With this I agree he confidence is gone and he is now tentative

    - See number 2

    - WITHOUT A DOUBT

    - What AK needs as do most of the forwards just LEAVE them with the same linemates for a couple of shifts

    - Agree we don’t have the skilled forward like Nilan or Ferguson anymore

  99. Mark C says:

    After the past 3 games…some of my thougts are;

    - Gomez is a waste of a Habs uniform

Good stuff here. Gomez only played in one of those three games, where he had two points and was a post away from a three point game.

  100. canadiens26 says:

Do you have your own opinion or do you simply regurgitate what you hear? You should probably back up some of the points you made.

  101. joeybarrie says:

What a useless post. EVERYTHING about it is wrong.

Oh and by the way, the Habs have won only ONE game in the last 2 seasons without Gomez…

Prognosis…. sounds like all the idiots who said we wouldnt make the playoffs, the idiots who said Price sucked, and bash the same old guys that are the keys to our success and dont even know it…

Thank God the people running the team know it. Try http://www.TampaBayLightning.com They need some fans.

There may be other teams, but only ONE Club De Hockey…

  102. Habs Proud says:

  114. SeriousFan09 says:

Likely so but the word cockroachs? Beyond disgusting. Just because Subban blasted a Bruin and Lapierre was doing his thing doesn’t give Milbury the right to behave on national TV like the knuckle-dragging simpleton he is.

    - I shall always remember Captain Koivu. Habs and Hockey.

  115. Da Hema says:

Agreed. But you could send a letter to the CBC telling them to go fu*k themselves and they would send a response like “Thank you for your letter and for enjoying the high-quality programming of the CBC. It is because of viewers like you the CBC is the bestest broadcaster in the world.”

  119. JohnBellyful says:

The name was wrong but the ranking was spot-on.

  120. lenny says:

    1) Will AK show up?

    2) Will PK have some more give a ways

    3) Will Patches score

    4) Will any player on the habs show some toughness

    5) Will somebody stand up to Lucic

  121. mike g says:

1- You have better chances predicting the winning lotto-numbers….

2- Surely, the Bruins play a very defensive system like ours, that forces defenseman to make uncomfortable discisions. Look for alot of giveaways from both teams…

3- Hope so, but I hope it’s a goal that he has to work for and earn. Make him appreciate it. I don’t wanna see him tap one in while floating by the net. I wanna see a dirty goal, or see him make a nice play. Too many of our rookies score garbage goals and then just sit on them, thinking those goals come by often.

4- Probably Georges, maybe a Darche. Expect Lapierre to chicken away again. Games like this need players like Ryan White. In his brief stint here, he proved he was willing to run into a brick wall without hesitation. That’s a winning attitude.

5- Hopefully Hal Gill. I’d put it on him tonight to neutralize Lucic. Doesn’t mean he has to drop the gloves with Milan, but just contain his size and make the game boring for him. Don’t let him get into the crease and cause a mess. Make him totally innefective, this way when the game is over and he’s sitting in the room, Milan will be asking himself what the heck he just did for the past 3 hours. That exact feeling after a game is horrible when your counted on to make an impact.

I got AK at under 64.5 pts, with Triple X and Tom Nickle.

  122. Kooch7800 says:

    1) yes, AK does seem to show up against boston.  Remember that time he laid out Lucic with that hit that he got a BS penalty for.  Ah good times http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RlHkIZcQz0Y

    2) Unfortunately, Yes. But he will through some hits tonight

    3) No but I would put him in for a helper tonight

    4) I don’t think we know what that is

    5)  We really don’t have someone for that role.  On a good note at least we won’t have BGL trying to keep up with him and being completely inneffective instead of just grabbing the guy and pounding him but he couldn’t cause he follows some crazy code that only he understands.

  123. Habs_Sox_Pats says:

The talk around here is the Bruins are playing soft – starting with their coach!

Lifelong Habs fan living near Boston. I hate having to watch the Habs on NESN!!!

I lose it at least a few times a game because of Jack Edwards.

NESN is the WORST. I hate when I get their feed on Centre Ice. Andy Brickley and Jack Edwards man..

  126. mon_chums says:

Can I get a mid-ice trolley tracks style check on Lucic tonight please?

  127. mike g says:

Listening to the pre-game show last night…

The french and english radio stations, and also RDS, were all saying that we should expect a big game from AK last night, because during his career he’s played well against them..

And then after the game, I had to check the boxscore just to make sure he was dressed.

He was hiding more than Waldo last night….

    (and on most nights)

What do all the JM is ruining P.K. people think about this quote from the Mike Babcock trained Todd McLellan. McLellan is talking about the 22 year ago Jason Demers?

“Obviously we made two mistakes and it’s in our net, but the third one’s the one that pissed me off more than anything,” the coach said to open his post-game scrum. “It’s a 2-2 game and you decide to pinch when it’s four on two? Absolutely unacceptable. It’s called game management and it was poor.”

“He’s in the NHL. Young, old it doesn’t matter,” he said. “He’s in the NHL. That’s a situation that you have to read.”

  130. slapshot777 says:

It kills CBC when the Habs score. They are all rooting for Boston. Any body checks or hits are blatant penalties or abuse. The Darche hit according to moron Healey was a blatant elbow or interference. The refereeing is brutal and has been during this Habs losing streak. Coinsidence? I think not. Blatant high stick on Gill tonight not called, dropped gloves last night to start a fiht by Carcillo last night not called again tonight same think with Thornton, still nothing.

JM has to give hell to the referees, as long as your going to just take it, they will keep disihing it out to you. Hopefully the Habs can pot a couple of more in the third and win this thing.

To you from failing hands we throw the torch, be yours to hold it high.

  131. JohnBellyful says:

It’s great the team is showing it can bounce back after the Bruins score and are applying pressure, but enough with the giveaways! And, yeah, Price is wonderful handling the puck — half the time. He’s just as likely to give it to the other team as help the defence get it out. Keep it simple.

Okay, I’ve vented. I’m ready for the third period. Jacques will deliver a bracing speech — without the F-bombs — and the boys will come out the gate flying.

P.S. Kudos to Pax for being the spark on the Gomez line and showing what good things can happen if you just fire the puck on the net.

  132. Habs_Sox_Pats says:

Jack is the worst HOMER in the league!! They refer to themselves as the “Black & Gold”, not sure about the black, but the gold represents Jack’s hideous yellow teeth. To listen to him go on & on about Canadiens players dropping to the ice like they’ve been shot, etc. drives me to listen to CJAD on my laptop, even though it’s a few seconds off. You can tell that even Andy Brickley thinks he’s bad.

Lifelong Habs fan living near Boston. I hate having to watch the Habs on NESN!!!

  133. SeriousFan09 says:

Milbury referred to Lapierre and Subban as cockroachs.

I couldn’t find an RDS stream for the night so I suffered with the CBC feed, certainly wasn’t going to listen to Jackass Edwards.
