• At a Glance: Canadiens goaltender Carey Price earned his league-leading 16th win of the season Saturday afternoon during a 3-1 win over the San Jose Sharks. The two teams traded goals in a somewhat dull first period when the Canadiens mustered only four shot on goal. Mathieu Darche opened the scoring exacty six minutes into the game when he grabbed his own reboud to beat Antii Niemi. The Sharks got that one back 13:04 into the period when Benn Ferriero fired a shot past Price from the side boards that the goaltender never saw. The second period wasn’t much more exciting, but the Canadiens took a 2-1 lead when Tomas Plekanec scored his ninth of the season 13:58 into frame. Plekanec shook off a check along the boards, broke into the slot and caught Niemi moving the other way with his shot. Michael Cammalleri scored his eighth of the season 8:22 into the third period to seal the victory. On the play, Roman Hamrlik broke in on a breakaway after blocking a shot at the Canadiens blue line. Hamrlik’s first and second shots were stoped by Niemi but could not stop Cammalleri on the third try.
• Key Moments: With the score tied at 1-1 during a lackluster second period, Plekanec made the extra effort at the end of a long shift to give the Canadiens the lead.

• What It Means: Montreal’s record improves to 17-8-2 for 36 points to solidify the Canadiens’ grip on first place in the Northeast Division.

• What’s Next: The Canadiens welcome the Ottawa Senators to the Bell Centre on Tuesday night then hit the road for games in Detroit and Toronto next Friday and Saturday.

don’t argue with a guy who isn’t a habs fan and thinks gill is one of the worst in the nhl, check this guys profile. what a joke.

  2. mr.a. says:

next game. whenever gill is on the ice, stop watching the game and focus in on gill. youll see why i think he’s such  a big useless pussy who once in a while will be lucky enough to get in front of a shot and block it.

  3. habs03 says:

With all due respects to mr.a, when I saw that reply, I really laughed and decided not to reply, but good job on the response, Gill is a huge reason why we have the number 1 PK.

  4. christophor says:

    mustache who?

  5. Da Hema says:

I agree, and would certainly prefer the Leafs improve enough to at least keep Boston from drafting in the top five next year.

Burke really screwed the Leafs with that Kessel deal….

Health Canada is reminding Canadians that consumption of the Toronto Maple Leafs has led to vomiting, fever, bloody diarrhea, dementia, and penile dysfunction.

  6. SeriousFan09 says:

Even blind squirrels find nuts now and then though, can’t keep giving them shots at the draft lottery and expect nothing to happen. Adam Larsson added to their defence would address of replacing Chara down the line.

    – I shall always remember Captain Koivu. Habs and Hockey.

  7. W35T5ID3 says:

dude you obviously do not watch hockey …..gill exceptional at the defensive side of the game…..using his stick ,blocking shots, he is a defensive beast out there and moreso he brings an attitude and personality to the dressing that is top notch.

How fast do u think u could skate if u were 6’7”???I bet Gill could skate ya into the ice.

Appreciate what Gill brings to the table……DEFENSIVE PROWESS at its BEST.

  8. Da Hema says:

I see the point here, but the Bruins have had a tendency to waste draft picks and their young talent. Everyone was saying how the Bruins would win the championship when they drafted Thorton and Samsonov 10 years ago, but look at how that building effort turned out.

An important announcement from the Government of Canada:

  9. otter649 says:

Sad thing for The Leafs they finished in 29th place last season with Kessel in the line up which I am sure they could have done without Kessel on their team………

  10. mrhabby says:

thats true..what ever it is i hope PG is seriously looking at alternatives. we still need another forward.

  11. habsfansince91 says:

that’s true but since they can’t take that trade back, look at it this way; one team gets a lot better (bruins) while one team gets a lot worse (leafs) compared to the trade never happening and both teams getting better by getting good draft picks. I still would’ve rather had the leafs give those picks to a team in the west but it is what it is.

  12. mr.a. says:

gill should be in the press box. can’t believe how overrated this turkey is.

  13. light_n_tasty says:

Not to mention only 1 of those has been in OT.  It’s a lot easier for goalies to reach 40 wins than it once was because of the SO wins, but Price is doing it in regulation.

  14. SeriousFan09 says:

I wish they’d never shown up, we were better off Leafs when were plodding along in mere mediocrity, not absolute Mickey Mouse territory. Boston will select in the draft lottery again and their future will be secured for the next decade.

    – I shall always remember Captain Koivu. Habs and Hockey.

  15. habsfansince91 says:

what i find very funny is that a couple of weeks ago wilson benched kessel because of his lazy backcheck. Kessel didn’t even realize and still doesn’t realize what he did wrong. Wilson’s solution? Put kessel at center where he’s going to have even more defensive responsibilities. God i hope burk and wilson never get fired.

Good win by the habs today!!

  16. lavie says:

A top 6 forward is one thing; the top 6 forward running fit into the team is another thing. Look at New Jersey and Toronto.

  17. SeriousFan09 says:

He’s right, all that dust covering them? It could fall down to the ice and get in your eyes.

    – I shall always remember Captain Koivu. Habs and Hockey.

  18. habs03 says:

JM is the best coach the Habs have had in the past 15 years! I love the defensive system, what I love even more is the tough love to the younger players, Pouliot has been better because of it, Eller is easily make his way up the depth chart, and no doubt that Subban is going to be better because of this in the long run. The question now is what do you with Weber, he has played so well the past 2 games, Spacek has been really good lately he can’t sit him, so I’m guessing maybe Picard, and go with

  19. SeriousFan09 says:

Carey Price is pacing to win 45 games if he were to start 70 this season, that would set a team record.

    – I shall always remember Captain Koivu. Habs and Hockey.

  20. mrhabby says:

Can Weber play any better..don’t know. he is steady. Pk is the future of the organization and should be back Tuesday against the sens.

A patient team that paid alot of attnetion to detail this afternoon. San Jose very dangerous but were shut down in the neutral zone. Habs still get penned in against the bigger teams down deep.

I really hope PG uses the savings from Markov and goes out and finds another top 6 forward. He has to. Habs still need that 1 other player to get them over the hump.

  21. MTLForever says:

his was definitely deflected by a glove.

  22. AH says:

Nice win! I noticed JM took Cammi away from Nomez, then he scores… first Gio, now Cammi, poor Nomez is going to get a complex soon LOL!

    Eller, Pouliot, Darche= nice line!

  23. dre1744 says:

Can’t believe Price missed the open net aswell.

But he didn’t score a goal, so he doesn’t get a star.

  34. Mattyleg says:

I guess Plecky felt significantly lighter and able to give more. This is what is written above:

  35. rocketsglare says:

Question now is, can the Habs hold the lead and pick up 2 pts.? Gut check time for the boys.

    Go Habs Go!

  36. tricolore says:

We all know the assets that PK brings to the Habs. You have to accept that during his progress he will make mistakes. I appreciate the scratch last game to have him reflect and regain his ‘ways’. A 2nd game is just stupidity from his coach, especially vs a team like San Jose with the speed, talent, and physical play. Coach Floppy Ears will pay dearly for this mistake. I believe this will contribute significantly to PK’s confidence. The Canadiens cannot afford to have a player of his talent missing for more than 1 game at at time.

  46. light_n_tasty says:

Just some clarification on the cap situation.  There has been some misinformation about our cap room.  We only get relief in an amount up to Markov’s cap hit at the time of the injury.  We can’t count the 1.5 mil or so we already had before the injury.  The LTIR relief is only in an amount that an extra Markov would put us over the cap.

The Habs will have to be disciplined, patient, and opportunistic against the Sharks this afternoon if they are to prevail.

They must play with great intensity and focus from beginning to end and simply outwork the Sharks with solid team

play from end to end. Should be a great game this afternoon.

    Go Habs Go!

  54. 23 HABS 23 says:

I hope they can do all the things you have pointed out rocketsglare … but from what I remember … Matinee games are never too kind to the HABS!  Here’s hoping for the best!

GO HABS GO! (Let’s go get that elusive 25th Stanley Cup!)

  55. SmartDog says:

Halak’s save percentage has dipped to .910, and his W-L record is only 3 games over 500.  He musta found the Peeler bars in St. Louis!

  56. Storm Man says:

Halak is playing like I thought he would, If some on here wanted to crown him after his play last year so be it crown his a$$. He is who I thought he would be.

  57. WindsorHab-10 says:

Stick it to Joe Thornton. I hate the SOB.

  58. J_P says:

What do you hate about joe thornton? He seems like a pretty happy go lucky kind of guy.  Just curious.

  59. Everlasting1 says:

I hate him more for that dirty hit on David Perron a month ago. He’s still out with a concussion.

“This road trip is a meaningful one, for that reason alone. The Sharks don’t get to play the Senators every night… Montreal is a strong team and a worthy opponent, something the Sharks haven’t handled well as of late. Add in that Carey Price is playing out of his mind, and you have a game which is going to be a tough one.” Excerpt from fearthefin.

  61. Julie H says:

Oh don’t say that! I’m going to the game today and I was really hoping for a win

  62. 23 HABS 23 says:

Congrats Julie … wish I could have been there for the game … and more importantly the win!.  It was a good win with an overall GREAT team effort.  Price also looked quite sharp and stoned Heatley on more than one occasion!  Some big saves at some key moments!  Glad things worked out for Les Boys!

GO HABS GO! (Let’s go get that elusive 25th Stanley Cup!)

  63. WindsorHab-10 says:

A former Bruin. Even though he plays for San Jose, I still see that damn Bruins jersey. Thus the hate.

  64. stephen says:

I can’t claim to cling to any ‘hate’ for the guy, but I do feel a heightened sense of satisfaction when we beat his team. It probably stems from his Bruins days and especially from what seemed like the perennial playoff matchup with them. It was always fun seeing the diminutive Saku stick it to ‘Big Joe’.

  65. WindsorHab-10 says:

What’s our record in matinee games? Just wondering.

  66. SmartDog says:

There are so few, I’m not sure it applies.

But on the up side, we’re 6-2 at home and San Jose is 2-6 on the road.

  67. Jordio-oh says:

i don’t know our total overall matinee record but i can tell you that Carey is 1-2-1.

  68. homerbowen says:

No excuses today. Time to bring the “A” game.

  69. Tremblant Habs Fan says:

Any word on how’s sitting tonight? Picard? Weber?…?

  70. MTLForever says:

    unfortunately its pk.

  71. WarHero says:

Well folks, just woke up and remembered that todays gam was on @ 2pm. Since I have nothing to do today, that is just wonderful news! I agree that the “A” gamebetter be in place and for the full 60 minutes. That line of Thorton, Marleau & Heatley can burn you at any moment if your not carefull. Let’s also not forget, Clowe & Couture. I am sure Couture is still riding the high from his 2 goal performance against Ottawa.

Bold prediction: Cammalleri gets 2, including the game winner!

  79. mrhabby says:

weber or (for a rest) spacek.

  80. tricolore says:

Why PK will again of course. Coach floppy ears is not done ruining his confidence.

Signed: Jacques, have not won anything, Martin.

Lafleur, coming out rather gingerly on the right side.

  81. SeriousFan09 says:

Picard was signed as the 7th, but Gorges has been playing hurt and Gill’s had some really bad games lately. It might help Jacques to start rotating his defence a bit.

  83. W35T5ID3 says:

Lets have Jack Martini up in the press box for a game or 2 and let Subban be coach for a game or 2.Lol….blah…random dumb thought that just came to my head.

  84. habs03 says:

I’m guessin maybe Picard, but also maybe putting Weber as a RW, but I don’t know how you can do that with the way Weber has played on D. I think people need to trust JM just a bit, remember when everyone went crazy on JM for playing Darche, look at how well Darche has done since then.

  85. light_n_tasty says:

I would scratch Gomez, promote Halpern to the 2nd line and have laps centre the 4th line.  Rotate 7 dmen and 11 forwards.  That would take some time away from the overworked D.  Give some of the younger forwards (esp Eller) some extra shifts to make up for the “loss” of Gomez.

But I’m not an NHL coach.

  86. AH says:

Gio and Cammi on Gomez: (think of the Life cereal commercial)

Gio: “I don’t want to play with him, you play with him…”

Cammi: “I don’t want to play with him, you play with him…”

Gio: “I know, let’s get Pyatt and Laps!”

Cammi: “Yeah, they’ll play with anyone!,… hey Tommy, hey Maxi!”

heh,heh…kidding..I like Gomez, he’s just such an easy target right now.

SUBBAN is in next game and if he aint ima get pi$$ed off.

  94. lavie says:

If you cannot choose a player who is to sit, you are a idiot.

  95. habs03 says:

No need to call him an idiot, Subban will most likely be in the lineup next game, but it won’t be a surprise he isn’t, and who is say that Weber has no future with the team. Sorry but I think JM is going to here a whileeee.

  96. Lazarus_taxa says:

I love this type of brainless coach bashing after 2 very convincing wins(?).  One thing that makes JM such a great coach is his TEAM perspective rather than the individual.  If PK is such a great player and athelete, how would being benched ruin his career?  How is his treatment any different than other rookies who seemed to have lost their way a little?  In a deep CONTENDING team, the whole season is not about developing one player.  It is about WINNING.   You think Martin justs sits people without consulting the other coaches?  Obviously there is an informed process that goes on rather than a split second freak-out (much like the one your post demonstrates.)  Your clear lack of knowledge about the whole process shows that you do not know enough to respect the work that JM and Co. have done with this team.  It is not as simple as you make it out to be and if this group of coaches thinks that he should sit and the team wins,  WHERE’S THE PROBLEM?  I’m really liking what I see from Weber so far, just because he is not as flashy as PK doesn’t mean he doesn’t deserve to get his chance to play. GO HABS GO!

  97. Lazarus_taxa says:

Nice.  Martin is a failure because some armchair psychologist/coach posts it.  I guess by that logic PK, I have never won anything, subban, will sit.

  98. Seps says:

He’s only won gold at the world juniors…

  99. SmartDog says:

Anyone notice that in the 3rd period Gomer was demoted and Halpern took his place?

I SAID Gomer would be demoted – and he was.

And Cami scores just after.  No surprise here.

Even today, PJ Stock can easily point out how Gomer is not doing his job.  Gomer’s leash is finally getting short.  Thank you JM! About time.

  100. Lazarus_taxa says:

Hey Smartstuff!  Gomez led all forwards in ice time today…. is that your ‘short leash’, or are we trying to be dramatic?  Rds website is for that….

  101. Willy the bum says:

Sweet, a Habs win again!  Gomez is becoming a black cat in the team, skating across his linemates’ paths to not be able to score.  Seeing Cammalleri score is a relief, I seriously feel bad for whoever be on Gomez’s line.

Subban’s still on the press box, but as the team is counting the wins, might as well stay with what they got for now… until someone will screw up.

Anyways, a Habs win and today’s still early.  So, what now?

  102. SmartDog says:

Yeah, and Cami was on Halpern’s line when he scored.  Gomez is starting to feel the heat.  Hopefully this wakes him up – FINALLY.  It’s been too long coming.

  103. habs365 says:

Don’t worry about getting another forward right now..worry about putting together a second line..use the players we have..pass on to martin quit playing mind games, he’s been lucky so far..pouliot-halpern-cammy look like a good 2nd line..martins bubble is gonna break soon..I’d say starting with detroit..most of the players are playing their hearts out making him look good..soon they’ll be burn’t out..hope they keep getting points before it happens..good team though.

  104. CanadienBoy says:

Guess what boys if Martin take a liking to weber ,Pk is in for some tough love ,but he will take on the challenge and be the next Norris winner

  105. SmartDog says:

    Still defending Gomez…. hahahahahah!!!

    A. He didn’t lead all forwards in ice time. Are you trying to be dramatic? I thought Don Cherry was for that.

    B. Yeah, lots of ice time, 1 shot and no points.  That’s your boy!

    C. On CBC they had lots of compliments for the Habs, but showed how Gomez is NOT doing everything that Plekanec is doing.  The guy is dropping to the bottom of the +/- on this team and WAS demoted.  Halpern was centering Cami and Moen for most of the 2nd half of the game.

  106. Lazarus_taxa says:

My Bad, he was second behind cammy, but way ahead of the pack.  I am not really defending him, I’m just not bashing him like you or YOUR BOY PJ STOCK.

  107. SmartDog says:

Not just Cami, Moen had more ice time too.  Gionta was seconds behind….

I’m not trashing him either.  And Stock was right (he’s not a total jerk, he sometimes has a good point). I’m just happy that Gomez is hoefully feeling the heat.  His own brother would admit he’s not playing as well as he can or should.  He’s still cutting corners.  How often is Gomez a game star?  At 8 million bucks he should be now and then dontcha think?  The guy is not bringing his ‘A’ game. I don’t know why… I’m way past expecting him to be worth his salary but right now he’s like Chris Higgins if he was a center.  He needs to be better.

  108. joeybarrie says:

Moen and Cammalleri had more ice time than Gomez. But you are right. Gomez had more ice time than Pleks…

People just seem to think if he is on the ice, no one scores. I guess the fact Gionta had ZERO points or shots on net doesnt matter, cause Gomez is the whipping boy…

There may be other teams, but only ONE Club De Hockey…

C’mon. Gionta has twice the points. (For almost half the money… but whatever).

Why do people always act like Gomez is some kind of vicitm.  At the very least you have to say he’s having a bad year and not playing as well as he can and needs to.

  110. MTLForever says:

even though weber has done well, i can’t see Martin scratching PK for a 3rd consecutive game. yes PK needs to tweak his game a bit so that what happened the other night doesn’t occur, however, his speed and offensive upside, strong on the puck etc is needed in the line up.

  111. SmartDog says:

If I were Martin I’d put PK back in but keep Weber around at least for awhile with the big club. If there’re no injuries I’d consider giving Spacek or Hamrlik a game off now and then.  You don’t want to break the rhythm but Weber has something the team needs. Great energy, a booming shot.

Dollars to donuts he sits the next one.

Definitely switch it up, maybe keep him in on tues, take out picard or give one of the older guys a rest or maybe gorges? hes playing hurt.

  114. WindsorHab-10 says:

Can’t believe PK was a healthy scratch again but I have to admit that Weber looked good out there the last 2 games. Even Picard has played well.

Great win today beating a tough Western Conference team.

Cannot see keeping Gomez on the 4th line as a viable option. Gomez was a very important player for us last year and will be again, we will need him. Cammalleri is also not as effective this year. I also do not think that Moen has the ability to play on the top two lines. So, what to do. Call up Paciorety and try the following: Line 1A – Plekanec, Cammalleri, AK46; Line 1B – Gomez, Gionta, Paciorety. This should work as Gomez and Gionta played well together last year and the 1A line has worked super in the past. Leave Pouliot on the 3rd line as he is doing well as are the bottom two lines overall.

As for Suban, he will earn his way back into the lineup and Weber will find his place as additional injuries may occur.

I’m only  9 points behind Gomez  and have yet to play an NHL game this year!!!!!

  118. SmartDog says:

    9 points and…. $8 million behind.

You need to become a fun interview.  That’s worth about $6 million.

The other 2 mil is for the 40-50 points he’ll score if he picks up the pace.

  119. dre1744 says:

not exactly 8 million behind…  Only 7 930 000  behind my friend.   But if we go into the taxes he pays then it  4 234 never mind too much math involved.

Team playing well! Very good win today, nice way to shut down there offence in the third. Price is a beast, but I hope he doesn’t cost us a game trying to score. Hopefully he saves that for the last minute of 2 goal lead games only! Subban may just sit for another one! Weber has been good and Benny played an excellent game. I thought he was our best player in the first half of the game. Hammer and Spacek have realy been earning their paychecks and did an awesome job again tonight. Gomez will eventually get it going. I think they need to put Gio back with him again and put Cammy back with AK and Pleky. Keep it up les boys!!!
