Canadiens general manager Marc Bergevin met with Alex Galchenyuk and Brendan Gallagher Monday morning and told both players they will be staying in Montreal for the entire season.
Galchenyuk will live with his mother and sister in Montreal, while Gallagher will move in with veteran defenceman Josh Gorges.
Galchenyuk was on what was, in effect, a five-game trial. The Canadiens could have returned him to the junior Sarnia Sting after his fifth NHL game - that would be Tuesday’s home game against Winnipeg – without using up the first year of his three-year, entry-level contract.
But Galchenyuk has shown he can play at the NHL level. He and Gallagher have brought a level of energy and creativity to the third line with Brandon Prust. Galchenyuk has a goal and two assists in four games, while Gallagher has a goal and an assist in three games. Gallagher was likely to stay because his entry-level deal kicked in when he joined the AHL’s Hamilton Bulldogs in the fall.
Galchenyuk was the third overall pick in last June’s draft and said his goal was to make the NHL this season. But there were some doubts that would be possible because the Canadiens traditionally bring young players along slowly and Galchenyuk missed most of last season after major knee surgery. But the lockout helped Galchenyuk because he tore it up with Sarnia in the OHL and then helped Team USA win the gold medal at the world junior championship.
Galchenyuk is the first 18-year-old to play with the Canadiens since defenceman Petr Svoboda in 1984.

Yes, now Habs have 3 solid defense pairs Markov/Emelin, Josh/PK
and the surprising good Buillon/Diaz with Kaberle as insurance veteran if someone goes down or needs a rest. Pac comes back soon and this Habs team is as good as any of the last 5 teams ( which if you remember were not too tacky.) I love it. Do not trade Eller — he would come back to haunt us.
Subban was asked a dumb question about being selfish, and MB interjected saying that the fact that he’s signed shows just how unselfish he is.
IMO, they both took the high road during the news conference. Good for them. And great for the team!
…is the word YIPPEEEE !!! appropriate for the moment Brian ?

Campaign to Retire Toe Blake’s Number 6 !!!
Sounds like PK is raring to go.
Me thinks Subban was waiting for Gomez to signed with the Sharks? Glad to have him back where he belongs. A die hard Habs player who loves his favorite team. A dream come true for him. Our Habs just got a tad stronger and a very sharp Price to boot. Right now he should be on 3rd D pairing and PP with Markov until he reaches game shape. Both can shoot the puck. Its going to be interesting times ahead.
Go Habs Go!!!
PK to rejoin the team on Wednesday…when he plays??
Man I love this photo! The youthful enthusiam!
Oh yeah we signed that PK guy….
Holy sh*t! I was really beginning to have doubts about PK signing and I logged into HIO and saw that he signed. Awesome news!
The telephone news conference on TSN 690 live, right now.
Subban has yet to learn Therrien’s system. But overall, I think Therrien will have a positive influence on Subban’s play.
Why was he signed…come on mb.
What is it with HIO lately? There seems to be a decline in reports and updates. Nothing on the breaking PK story yet.

Presser conference call at 8pm. Sure we will have that plus any more info after that.
On new thread
Yeah. It’s up now…

I think as a nice gesture, MT should heads to the Bell and re-installs PK’s name plate and light a few candles cause PK is going to save his ass for sure. Welcome back and hope he is game ready by end of week.
Turns out they were just getting a new name plate, the old one was worn out.
It had to pass the OLF language test first. Turns out, Subban is of french decent, so all is fine.
Not sure his a** needs saving. His team is 3-1 and playing a great team game.
So with PK signed he clearly won’t play tomorrow cause I feel he wont be ready, but when will he play?

Did Kaberles stick just get a little shorter?
Mini stick. He should be in the basement playing with the tikes.

Good view from the press box. Diaz is playing really well however i remember many posters wanting to move his ass out of here during the off season. Them and the Halekites and the tankers still waiting for the 1st bad game to come along (allright Leaf game sucked) to come out from under the bridge.

Gotta love when your gut feeling is bang on!!!!! Nice work PK!!!! And Habs too!!!
Now, who is going to get moved??? And where to???
Go to get free cocktail (long line today) and come back and PK’s signed. Going again and when I come back prehaps Kabs traded for Sid?
Mr. Biter
No Guts No Glory
You sure your not in New Orleans?
What no kabs for Sid? One miricle per night. No start back to the Peg. tomorrow. Will catch Habs/Jets in Hudson Wisc. at Buffalo Wild Wings tomorrow night.

This whole thing was caused by PK taking bad advice from his agent. Can’t wait to see PK back patrolling the blueline. PK will get is money in two years time, good things come to those who wait (and those who play good).
Now can we pray the team just continues to do well and we can please talk about something else.
So Subban doesn’t even have to wait two years to renew his contract, with this abbreviated season.
In about a year’s time, he and his agent will be sitting down to discuss with the Habs how they can make him much richer.
Maybe Meehan and MB are still talking now?
Montreal finishes 6th in conference now…we will face boston first round
“It’s a game of inches, dick”-Steve Shutt
If he is as revved up and motivated as I think, in the coming weeks our blueline will become a lion’s pit for opposing forwards!
Keep your head up – PK and Emelin are licking their chops!!!
Don’t forget Frankie.
Bob McKenzie says that MB moved from the $5.1m he was originally offering.
Where he got that first figure is anyone’s guess, though.
—Hope Springs Eternal—
Did Bob make any comment about how he said this was headed towards a trade? Oh that would mean he was wrong.
It’s getting awfully hard for Looney to continue to deride MB and MT
He’s used to a challenge.
—Hope Springs Eternal—
Ole Tom has been pretty good since he returned from his hiatus.
Really like the fact Markov can have his minutes reduced some now.
Yup. 30 mins every game would have sent poor old Andre to the infirmary pretty quick.
He was playing 25, not 30 and he’ll be fine.
No recriminations…we’re all Habs fans…man this is awesome!!!
***SUBBANG BABY!!!***
Not even a few recriminations? What about all the posts assassinating Pk’s character? What about the subtle (and even overt) racism?
You’re too good a guy.
Forgive but not forget?
———————————–
I’ll never forget the racism. It was disgusting.
Agree with you Twi.

agree

Forgive is different from forget. I don’t forget.

Another good day to be a Habs fan buddy!
This is a steal of a deal for Montreal.
I never thought he’d sign for under $4M per year.
We got us a bargain

I think a lot of us forgot or never knew how good he is.
Is he playing tomorrow?
He is going to be pumped. Count on it.

The Habs power play is going to be a monster with the one-two punch of Markov/Diaz on one wave and Subban/Gorges on the other

Ya Markov and Diaz really do work well together, I hope they stay together.
Big question is when does he play??? Whoop Whoop!!!
Ever seen a Tank™ backtrack? You’re gonna witness one soon!!
Taking off the winter tracks and putting on the summer slicks on the Tank are you brother?
Maybe putting it up on blocks for a bit?

all you guys were idiots who hated on Subban , hes clearly getting underpaid now, and what does they guy do off the ice thats bad? I havnt heard anyone say a thing!! I’m super happy he signed, Hes completly makes a unselfish move and literally buys into the team philosophy. I hope they can keep him here for a long time, and give him his money next time round. On and on the Ice the guy is a monster, MOnster hits, MOnster Shot, Crazy good skating, the guy does it all, so what if he takes chances and gets under players skin! thats exactly what I want on this team! Way to go PK and MB good to get this done.
Saying he isn’t an elite defenseman yet, is not “hating on Subban.” Grow up!!
It’s not like they’re breaking the bank on him either. If he does well, I’m sure they will extend his contract, a la Max Pac.

DOOOOOOOOOOOOMED!
Pretty smart to put more of the money in year 2. Since this season is shortened, Subban will get more of the total $5.75mill. Term aside, that’s likely what convinced him to accept a contract that also gives the Habs a lower caphit.
Don’t want to start any controversy. I am very happy PK is back in the fold and will be on the ice soon, very exciting.
I do have a feeling we’ll come to regret the team’s choice to play hard ball on this contract. I hope MB doesn’t have to trade him in Year 2 because we fear he might not resign with us long term. A guy with Subban’s pride will not forget.
The same way, MB might be vindicated if PK turns out to be a mediocre to average defender in the long run, not the star we hope he will become. This contract, to me, changes everything, in terms of the next negos. But we’ll cross that bridge when we get there, I guess.
He just signed?
Mr. Biter
No Guts No Glory
He’s still an RFA in 2 years, just like Pacioretty and Price were. Man some of you just live for drama. In 2 years we’ll have a ton of cap space and if Subban is as good as he, some of you, thinks, he’ll get his big payday. Just like Pacioretty and Price.
The AAV of this contract isn’t much higher than what was initially suggested by Bergevin. Did he cave or is he not nearly as egotistical as we thought?
Either way, glad to have him back on a cap-friendly contract. He’ll cash in next contract.
I think it is way below what I was expecting. Gotta hand it to Bergevin. Dude’s got balls of steel.
GM of the year?
Just speaking with Gerard Gallant’s brother. Turk can’t wait to use PK in his PP schemes.
Who be Turk?

Turk is coach Gallant’s nickname. Had it since we were in grade 1.
Looks like we finally have decent management and a team with a good future.
thanks pk and mb
now go habs

Gorges – Subban
Diaz – Bull

Somebody tell Tom Nickle and Ed Lopaz to back away from the ledge and that everything is okay.
(I hope you two guys take this post in good humour).
CHeers to all of us, our defence just got alot better!
Wonder when he’s going to be game-ready.
Not until the weekend at least, I’d say.
—Hope Springs Eternal—
Those two weren’t the only ones, there was a group of 10 to 15 of them living in utter dispair, preparing to jump. It was really quite funny.
So he steps in and pairs up with Gorges 5 on 5?
Markov – Emelin
Subban – Gorges
Diaz – Boullion
and with Kaberle on PP2?
With Kaberle up in the stands or playing for someone else hopefully.
To all the PK haters out there SUCK. IT. HARD!
Ya and the Bergevin haters can suck it harder, he won. He got the player and at the price he wanted to give, masterful.
Yeah yeah, that’s what it’s all about. You won too, you were right. Hooray!

Yes so happy to have PK back!
PK Please Sign
i guess you can change your quote now
Way to go! Subban and Bergevin!
Good for MarcB & The Habs to sign Subban – The Rookie Dinner will have one more place setting…..
Well I guess this one is a tad late but here goes any ways.
There’s a man who’s just a money changer.
To every team his price puts them in danger.
With every deal he makes, another cap space breaks,
Odds are he won’t sign a deal tomorrow.

Unrealistic number,
Won’t trade away Subban.
Beware of smilin’ faces that you find.

Oh, be careful what you say. Your own self you will play.
Odds are he won’t sign the deal tomorrow.

Kachingin’ on the offer sheet foray
and then sayin’ that he wants to really stay.
Oh no, you let the wrong words slip,
while smackin’ hungry lips.
Odds are he won’t sign the deal tomorrow.

Well done, I’m hearing it sung by Bruce willis. Great to have PK back; if he can stir up a little trouble early on, we won’t have to manufacture a goaltending controversy to fight about. Liking the new-look Habs a lot, although strike/lockout shortened seasons always feel like they have an asterisk beside them. The future looks bright with young talent being properly developed. Go Habs Go!
