  10. Peter Young says:

Mike Boone is certainly right on two points in his column. It was just not in the cards that the Canadiens were going to get rid of Martin and go with Boucher after the Canadiens reached the Stanley Cup semifinals last season (even though they did get rid of Halak, who was largely responsible for that run). But it was a mistake to let Dominic Moore go, despite his demand for a two-year contract. His value was plain.

I hope Tampa Bay can go all the way to the finals, not just because I don’t want the Bruins to get there–and I really, really hope they do not–but because I like seeing those who used to be in the Canadiens organization do well elsewhere if their departure was not through any act of disloyalty. I cheered for Bernie Geoffrion when he played for the Rangers and even went to see him play against the Bruins while I lived in the Boston area in the 1960s. I felt the same way about Doug Harvey, Jacques Plante and Larry Robinson, among a host of others. Not when they played against the Canadiens, mind you–that would be going too far–but I wanted them to do well as long as it didn’t hurt the Canadiens.

  11. JohnBellyful says:

Lot of angst over other teams’ players appearing regularly on what used to be a Hab fans site. My solution, offered late last night and which I’ll repeat now, is:
When the reports are about a particular team, say, Boston, dip into the archives and find a photo of the Habs and Bruins in action from the past six months. It would run with an appropriate caption, of course, to make the photo relevant. For example:

Carey Price makes a save to help the Montreal Canadiens win 2-0 in the opening round against the Boston Bruins who won the Stanley Cup last night.

Another thing, the HIO Rule needs to be tightened. To refresh your memory, and spare you having to glance to your right, the rule states:

“Hockey Inside/Out encourages lively debate, but there is a zero-tolerance policy regarding racism, profanity and behaviour that we deem to be offensive.
We will, without warning, ban those who do not abide by this simple rule, so as to maximize the enjoyment of readers and participants of both sexes and all ages.”

Note that the rule says nothing about spam per se, although I think most of us would agree such behaviour is offensive, nor does it identify trolls in particular as being persona non grata which is Latin for Bruins fans. These are egregious oversights, in my opinion – English for IMO – and should be addressed forthwith and with forth.

  12. CHsam says:

If Gomez was sent to Hamilton, doesn’t he have to clear waivers first? We’d still be paying money if some team claims him

    • HardHabits says:

I believe it’s only if he gets called back up. Then he has to pass re-entry waivers. So if Gomez punches a ride to the minors it’s a one way ticket.

  13. Exit716 says:

I’m sure right now Gomez is sitting in his remote cabin in Alaska feeling shame for his season. I hope Molson carries enough weight in the NHL boardroom to find a way to get rid of this contract during the next CBA.

  14. EricInStL says:

Boston has more depth than Washington and Tampa will not be able to roll with the Bs.

Thomas is on top of his game and will lead Boston to the Cup this year. One thing that might hinder them is looking ahead, but Neely might pound them if he finds out….

And to think Boston will only get better with that Toronto#1….

  15. shootdapuck says:

Please please Tampa please eliminate Boston so we don’t have to endure any more of Jack Edwards!

Its the only show in town here and makes Bob Cole palatable.

    Enough said!

… the fans of the Boston Bruins now have lost forever any right to complain that “the league” is out to get their team, and that the Montreal Canadiens have some kind of pull inside the NHL home office.

  16. CHsam says:

Patrice Bergeron has a concussion? It’s okay, Dr. Recchi has cleared him to play.

    What goes around comes around

    • issie74 says:

Only player I like on the Boston team is Bergeron.
      I hope he’s okay.
It didn’t look like much of a hit, just two guys who bumped together.
However that’s all it takes after the first concussion.

    • HabinBurlington says:

And now the bruins are saying the hit was late. If that his was late how can they justify char a on maxpac, oh ya they are idiots!

Great Effort Boys, PG get to work this Summer!

      • original6 says:

Not true. Link please. What is true is Boston followed the rules by sending Bergeron to the quiet room for 10 minute eval, unlike the Canadiens in their series against Boston. One of the reasons you dont like Jack Edwards is because he called Habs on it. But when you are only skating 2 good lines against Bostons 3, you need to ‘blur the rules’. 24 and done.

  17. Critical-MASS says:

Listen guys all this talk of bruins might win the cup or tampa and oh we shoulda kept boucher and blah blah blah blah BLAH.The fact of the matter is-is that the Canucks are gonna win the cup.TheSedin sister are not lighting it up yet and they still win.Neither has kesler, til recently. And kesler is a 40 goal scoring 2nd line centre.Hes a beast.Probably will win the conn smythe as i have a sneaking suspiscion. Not to mention a solid Luongo and Excellent D with depth everywhere up front and there ain’t a single team that can stack up with these guys.Im rootin for Higgins too.Ive always liked him as a player. If he ha any sort of hands he’d be a consistant 30 goal man but instead hes a real good 3rd line guy.But anywho….if any body has watched hockey this season and playoffs will know that the nucks are just that damn good.

…..You’ll never get to heaven if you’re scared of getting high…..

  18. nek25plus says:

Enough talk about the B’s…my hope is that the lighting and the Bruins kill each other.

    Go West Go!

  19. J.Ambrose.OBrien says:

Oh Mike, why are you dousing the impassioned flames of a Boucher love-fest with a cold bucket of sobriety and practicality? Okay, so perhaps it was impossible to keep ol’ Guy within the fold once he caught the scent of sweet NHL head-coaching offers. But that’s not going to dissuade us from fantasizing (and lamenting) what might have been.

Guy Boucher is the coaching version of Ovechkin. Passionate, exciting, inventive, and aggressively offensive-minded. Add in his insights into the inner workings of an athletes mind and emotions — and how to spark each of those centers — and you have a very attractive package (the dueling scar just seals the deal). The resurrection of Vinny Lecavalier speaks volumes. And then, to see him, in his very first season behind a big-league bench, take a team that fumbled to only 34 wins (with pretty much the same roster as this year) all the way to the Conference Finals, and quite possibly the Stanley Cup Finals (I’m picking them to beat the B’s); and to see him do it playing a high-flying, high-risk, aggressive style of play that is a mirror opposite to JM’s get-a-goal-and-bar-the-door defense-first style…. Well, yes, it does leave one pondering what might have been.

    I remember Dec. 31, 1975

    • NightRyder says:

Umm, get a room Man Crush.

I share your wish that Boucher had been handed the reins, but he’s gone. So are Vigneault and Bill Dauterive. It’s also easier to play an attacking style with Lecavalier, St. Louis and Stamkos or Sedin, Sedin and Kesler than it is with Scott Gomez.

I find it more fun to waste time trying to get rid of Gomez, then worrying about who’s already gone…

It’s official. Patrice Bergeron has a concussion.

This is bad news for him, as this is his third concussion.

    Bruins for the Cup.

    —Hope Springs Eternal—

  24. Bad Digestion says:

The Bruins should only be mentioned here when something miserable happens to them ( Perhaps when one of there players gets his neck broken or something nice like that…) If you cant say something bad about them, dont say nothing at all. The official NHL web site does a good job of kissing there behind , we dont need this here too…

  25. HardHabits says:

The The ‘Q’ looms large in NHL playoffs article takes its points from Philippe Cantin’s La Presse article which elaborates on Dany Dube’s ideas on how to improve the talent coming out of the ‘Q’.

First comes the recognition that 3 of the 4 coaches left in the play-offs, Boucher, Vigneault and Julien, coached in the ‘Q’. Lecavalier, St. Louis, Marchand, and Bergeron (not MAB) are in the list of top scorers these play-offs. Not bad considering most consider the ‘Q’ weak in terms of providing NHL calibre talent.

To counter this Dube basically suggests the ‘Q’ should play a more dominant role in supplying talent for the NHL. His idea is reducing the number of teams in the QMJHL, in order to raise the level of play.

The idea is that by reducing the number of teams the QMJHL would become more selective, only the best players would play. He acknowledges that hockey is a business, even in the ‘Q’, but goes on to say that the ‘Q’ should serve the players as a vehicle for them to develop their skills not necessarily for the fans.

How many of us have suggested reducing the number of NHL teams to increase the talent level? That’ll happen as soon as they bring in Olympic ice surfaces.

Dube then goes on to say that with fewer teams in the ‘Q’ it would provide a more challenging environment, allowing its players to develop better skills while at the same time strengthening their character.

Then Dube gets crazy. Probably drunk from the euphoria from the stats mentioned above. He points out the 5 of 30 coaches are from Quebec but only 1 GM. He wonders how all those poor QMJHL players would get noticed if only one GM is Quebecois. He then throws out the coup de grace. He wants there to be a fund for the most promising QMJHL players, going on to say that the ‘Q’ should pay 1/4 of the salary of Quebecois scouts who want to try a job in the NHL. He figures NHL teams trying to save money would gladly hire a Quebecois scout if 1/4 of the salary was off the books. More Quebecois in the NHL means better chances of moving into administrative jobs hence opening the door for more recognition of players from the ‘Q’.

I suggested a while back that the Habs should be more aggressive in the ‘Q’ in making it a better development camp for Quebec players and having a deep connection with it so as to be able to spot and acquire the best the ‘Q’ has to offer before other teams do.

It appears that people like Dube have given up on the Habs, on both being a door-way to the NHL and on being a team that would have an interest in drafting players from the ‘Q’. As a long time Habs fan I think it’s sad. Part of what the Habs were, was being a team stocked with Quebec players. The team has gone so far away from its roots, so much so that I think it is probably one of the major factors tied into the team’s lack of success since the Roy trade. The ’86 and ’93 teams were stocked with players from the QMJHL. The Habs young core now is Price, Eller, Subban and Pacioretty. All excellent players I gladly acknowledge. The only stand out young Quebec player is Desharnais, and he’s not that young and although he’s good, he’s no Marty St. Louis, at least not yet. His stature is also an issue considering the rest of the Habs line-up. There is hope as the Habs did good in getting Bournival and Leblanc, but it’s not enough IMO. The Habs need to get their tentacles into the ‘Q’, be a factor in making it a fertile place for talent to grow and use it as a building block for further success.

    • SeriousFan09 says:

There is no shortcut to the Q being a better league for player development. In 1999 at the Summit where Canada came together to figure out why the ’98 Olympics were such a disappointment, a lot of recommendations came out to improve junior hockey. AB was first on board as they brought in the recommendations right off the bat (Note the rise in quality of WHL draft candidates over the last decade compared to Quebec) QUE was behind the ball for a long time and only have brought them in for the last couple of years. It’s going to take time for QUE to catch up, if they can.

MTL should do what they can to help foster local talent, but at the same time they can’t become obsessed with the Q. Just drafting there to get the Quebecois player isn’t going to do us any favours. I’d take Huberdeau but he’s out of our reach and Beaulieu the same. 30-team league now, can’t just expect the Q guys to fall into our laps when they are some of the better players around and can’t afford to trade up for them.

      – I shall always remember Captain Koivu. Habs and Hockey.

      • HardHabits says:

Who said obsessed? You are the one who’s obsessed.

It’s the Habs back-yard and IMO they are not taking advantage of their proximity to it. The lack of Habs scouting and drafting in the Q over the years has been deplorable really.

Nevertheless the numbers don’t lie. The ‘Q’ alumni is dominating in these play-offs.

        • SeriousFan09 says:

A statistical oddity though when you rank it against the rest of the Cup squads post-lockout, or the losing teams in the Finals.

Habs missed on 2 Q guys in their reach since ’05 that have NHL bonafides in Marchand and Giroux and Giroux isn’t even really Quebecois. Compare that to what we missed in other leagues and I’d say the argument is we don’t pay good enough attention to the others.

Don’t trade down in 2006, Chris Stewart. Make something out of one of our 2nd-round picks that year, take your pick of Lucic, Geoffrion, Anisomov and Jamie McBain. Don’t give waste a pick for Tanguay, John Carlson or Tyler Ennis. Imagine a 2010-11 Habs squad with those two bodies on it. If Other leagues are producing several times more NHL talent, it makes sense to scout them more.

          – I shall always remember Captain Koivu. Habs and Hockey.

        • NCRhabsfan says:

I don’t disagree that the Habs should pay more attention to local players, but I don’t think the few players from the Q playing well right now is a good argument. One only has to look at last year’s Stanley Cup champions to raise a counter argument. Of the 31 players on the Chicago Blackhawks 2009/10 roster only 1 played in the Q and he only played 1 game all season for the Hawks. The team was mostly made up of players from the WHL (10), NCAA (8), OHL (7) and 5 players from Europe. Clearly formulas that don’t involve any former Q players can work too.

    • eric says:

How well have the Habs been with a coach that has to speak french.

  26. habs365 says:

The flyers didn’t fold–it was a no show for four games–that’s the reason Boston still gets to play–Boston didn’t show up for two games against the Habs–and it almost cost them–one goal was the difference–just proves a point–if you don’t come to play 60 minutes every game you get to watch..so Boston if want the cup read this post…….

  27. derfab says:

Good on Tampa but Roloson`s success is the main reason they are still around and his stellar, near perfect play could not have been predicted. I don`t see what Boucher or Yserman have to do with Rolie still being able to play this well.

Given their crap goaltending, Philly without Pronger is, as we have just seen, not a playoff team. Too bad we didn`t get to play them.

  28. NightRyder says:

Maybe I’m just a grumpy old toad but I could give a Flying Ference about the Bruins. Boone, why is a pic of Quasimodo leading a Habs site? I don’t want to read about Lurch or Dr. Recchi or how Claude Julien looks like Bill Dauterive from King of the Hill. I can find that elsewhere. Reading “analysis” that hints that we should feel better because we pushed the Bruins and the Flyers didn’t is absurd.
Let’s hear who Carey Price is banging this off-season. Run a trivia contest to see if anyone can name all of the 315 NHLers who had more goals than Scott Gomez this year. Or the 229 players who had a better faceoff percentage. Even the eight (!) players who have a higher cap hit than him NEXT year.
Maybe break down this fun trivia fact: Did you know that Scott Gomez and Daniel Sedin averaged EXACTLY the same amount of ice time this year? Yup. Exactly. Our pal Scottie (for the bargain price of an extra $1.9M) produced a nifty 7-31-38 -15 line. Danny boy eked out a 41-63-104 +30 ledger.
I know it’s a dead time but quit leading the site with shyte we don’t care about and burying the Habs news. I’d rather read about Boone’s pastry runs than continually see things about the Bruins or Bolts. That’s my rant. I feel better now.

  29. Marc10 says:

If Bergeron is out with a concussion, I would expect the Bolts to do fry the Bear in 4 or 5. St Louis has just too much speed for the Boston D to handle and with Big Vinnie on his game and Stamkos sniping away, the Bruins are going to get shredded. An effective checking line only accelerates their demise.

Roloson – what a pick up! That’s the difference between a quick first round exit and a trip to the Final. Nice work.

I read these posts and nothing surprises what I read on this website. Gainey loyalists are the worst. He designed the habs to play in a european league. That play nice, don’t fight hockey they play in the regular season makes them into one of the softest teams in the NHL–we pay for it every year in the playoffs. Ok, people will say 7 games with Boston–so what, we still lost.

This Gomez contract is the biggest joke. Gainey loyalists now blame Sather for our mess, yep, Gainey traded for him but its Sather fault. And peole saying Gioanta and Cammelleri would not have come to Montreal –thats even a bigger joke. Gomez was doing nothing on the Rangers and Sather hsd to trade him b/c the ranger fans were runnung Gomez out of town, and sooner or later they would have run Sather out of tow. I don’t think Gionta and Cammelleri think Gomez is Lecavilier, Ovechkin, or a Crosby, so that Gomez excuse is a joke. The only person that thought was Gainey who traded for him and accept that 8 million dollar contract.

Just stop these “my dog at the homework” excuses for Gainey. He was one of the worst managers in Montreal’s history.

      • CHsam says:

Yeah the Gomez trade is horrible.

Not that I’m out to defend Gainey, but that trade is looking worse and worse by the week.

      • 44har48 says:

We will never know the real truth about the Gomez deal provoking free agents to finally come to Montreal, but you can’t deny that no free agents of significant value even considered coming here until Gainy went and got Gomez, who even with his pathetic numbers in NY, was considered more of a real center than this team had anywhere in the pros or the system. We were simply a very bad team, being turned down by every chance to get better, and Gainy had to get someone in here to attract others. Yes, in hindsight, he has played as pathetically here as he did in NY, but a the time, most agreed and/or thought the change of sceneray is just what he needed.

I won’t stick up for Gainey on the other fronts, but I am a believer that we had to get someone, anyone, to try and attract real talent to get better until our drafts started to pan out in 3-5 yrs (from the Gomez trade). My only problem is we got fleeced. There was no reason to send McDonough to a team that was desperate to relieve themselves of his salary so they could replace him with a big time scorer (thats a whole other discussion on Goborik) :). Any clown could tell McDonough was going to play in the NHL for a long long time. Kane (CHI), Max, and Ryan were the class of the Jr tourny that I watched in Placid a few years back.

        • NightRyder says:

That Gomez conspiracy theory is such a crock. Yes, NHL players out there were lining up thinking “hey, where can I find a 15-goal, 60-point guy to play with?”
Gainey first offered Kovalev a deal, when the Artiste demurred, immediately gave the exact same one to Gionta who must have said “holy shit, they’re going to overpay the hell out of me, where do I sign?”
Cammalleri was fairly public about his desire to play on a Canadian team that wasn’t the Leafs. Of course he’s going to say things like “oh, getting a chance to play with a guy like Scott Gomez is terrific and it was a big part of my decision.” What else is he going to say? “They’re giving me a shitpile of money and I took it even though they might stick me with that boat anchor?”

Gomez is a pud who must be buried in Hammy Beach or sent to Europe if this team is truly going to move forward. I know it’s not likely to happen until after next year (when he gets 50 points and everyone think’s he’s really worked hard to improve), but I hope they cut bait now.

We need to continue to produce and pay our homegrown players. If you can have those players in your key roles, then free agency is complementary instead of a desperate reach. I have a feeling a lot of players just might want to play alongside Carey Price and PK Subban in the future. That’s the way we need to continue to go.

Just want to express that I do not like this new site and I change things inlife just to change them..I love change, this was not for teh good. Good articles are burried under Bruins headlines. I almost didn’t even click in this section. I have missed many articles becuase I don’t navigate through every link in this site, or any for that matter. I liked the blog feel where articles were visible from the main page. I also second, third, or fourth, etc the fact that the Bulldogs should be be talked about on this site. I dont mind other articles about Hockey, especially when the HAbs are golfing, but please, no pics of smug Bruins winning. I read the Boston Herald and Boston Globe daily online, belive me, they aren’t talking about us this way and they don’t have pics of our guys winning :)

Bottom Line: I’m finding myself gettting more info from other sites now and less frequently coming here. I find when I develop a habit, or think a certian way, I’m not the only one :)

      Excellent rant indeed!

Well written, well thought out, good use of statistics. Hard to argue with a lot of what andrew is saying.

      • 44har48 says:

Except I am much higher on Andreas Engqvist (6’4″ 200lbs) and Alexander Avtsin (6’3″ 200lbs) – I would also love to see Alexei Yemelin get over here and tame his aggression just a bit for the NHL. The former two are learning the NA game and trying to deal with coming to a new culture and language. When they get grounded, they will be the real deal. I will probably think higher of Kristo and Leblanc when they get out of pee wees and come up to the real leagues like the AHL and NHL. Yemelin is more than ready, but needs some pro coaching and a bit more weight. I hope they all work out, but I am giddy over the Swede and Russian.

Of course I am also high on Webber and Max Pac if Pac can come back and play as if the injury never happened (crossing my fingers).

This is by far the best position the Habs have been prospect wise in many years.

  39. mjames says:

I read the article by Andrew Berkshire. While I certainly agree that McGuire is prone to hyperbole , Berkshire’s rose colored glasses gave me a migraine. I know this guy Berkshire is a fan but try to be somewhat impartial in your assessment of Habs management. Habs management have made some of the worst gaffes with players. The players they have wasted or failed to develop is embarrassing. If you want to look at a good young management group look at TB. They crater and retool while we muddle along as “also rans”. Berkshire and McGuire suffer from the same disease. They are at the extremes. The truth is somewhere in between, although “in between” does not make a good team. We will be “also rans” again because of two things: (1) management is not qualified to take this team to the next level and (2) the Gomez contract prevents us from upgrading through FA. We have some decent prospects but who knows whether they will develop. If you listen to McGuire we have no one . If you listen to Berkshire we have the second coming of Guy Lafleur and Robinson.

    mjames

    • 44har48 says:

I could not agree with you more…Pierre McGuire disgusts me with his arrogance and the personal bias he interjects in his commentary. Professional sprotscasters (good ones anyways) are usually much more objective and deliver with tact and diplomacy. This “also ran” belnds in with the hundreds of unprofessional, obnoxious “know it all” sports casters, many of which never played the game and really have no clue what they are even talking about.

On the other hand, I agree we have some good young, big, talent coming, but who knows if they will develop like Kostitsen or like Stamkos, or at all. We won’t know if Max Pac can come back and really play – see Zednik, Komiserik, the list goes on…and we are doomed in free agency with the Gomez albatros. I am a believer that they needed to get a Gomez to entice those free agents to come to Montreal. I love Saku, but nobody wanted to come here and play with him and be in mediocrity. Gomez opened the doors to Spacek (say what you will), Gill, Gionta, Cammy, etc…I know we have won nothing and these guys need reinforcements to win in the future, but you can’t look me in the eye and say we would have won anything or even made the playoffs with that sad bunch we had for years prior to Gomez, etc, coming on board.

Bottom Line: Both these doofs are way off base…

    • J_P says:

You can certainly find a better example than tampa bay. Tampa bay was completely useless for multiple seasons, hence why they were able to draft players like Hedman and Stamkos (who just happened to be their leading goal scorer last season).

Criticize Canadiens management if you want, but dont compare a team whos made the playoffs 4 straight years, to a team who only improved because they spent time in the basement and were able to get a first overall and second overall picks in consecutive years.

The only genious thing Yzerman did was get Guy Boucher. Lecavalier, St Louis, Stamkos, Malone, Downie, Hedman, and Ohlund were all already there.

      • HabFanSince72 says:

Getting Roloson was pretty smart. Just imagine if Philly had done something like this.

Also Eric Brewer is turning out to be a great acquisition. He was cheaper than Brent Sopel.

        • J_P says:

Im not saying Yzerman is a bad Gm, all I am saying is that comparing Tampa Bay to Montreal and raving about their GM is a bad comparison, because Tampa has missed the playoffs the last few years and had the luxury of consecutive top-two picks.

The habs being a perennial playoff team, don’t have the luxury of top-5 draft picks. The last time we did get a top-5 pick, we certainly made it count because Carey Price is a stud.

          • mjames says:

I thought the point was to win the Stanley Cup and not just make the playoffs. TB is much farther along in winning the Cup than the Habs are. What is the point of making the playoffs if you get bounced in the early rounds. I don’t care if TB finished last, they got the draft picks and are now better than us. Saying we made the playoffs four straight years is hollow . It means nothing.

            mjames

          • BsFanforLife says:

Because the definition of class is diving for wins right?

Cause Chara didnt go down like he got shot from the minor tap that eller gave him in the first period of game 7 to draw a penalty or anything… Give me a break.

          • el heffe says:

No, i believe the definition of class is whining about it afterwards. I mean after the series is already over and the players have shaken hands and the bulletin board is cleared to write slanderous articles about Hamrlik diving and Subban diving and on and on. Now that’s class.

i like the habs so i hate the flyers/bruins in one way but i don’t hate them for running our players, i don’t hate them for playing super rough when playing montreal, contrary, I blame Gainey/Gauthier for getting us a pretty boy hockey club that gets bullied every game

The bruins/flyers play the way the gam showed be played–crash and bang, in combination with good talent. The habs should go play at a library tournamnrt with this no fear lineup

  42. JF says:

I don’t know what happened to the Flyers in the second half of the season. They scarcely won a game during the whole month of March, and finished the season looking very ordinary. I have to think the problem was more than goaltending, although that’s certainly a perennial issue. But the team looks the way the Habs looked two years ago when we were swept by the Bruins. I wonder if there are off-ice issues which undermined them.

As for the Bruins and Lightning, I wouldn’t pay too much attention to Boston’s regular-season record against Tampa. This was a different Lightning team we saw in the last couple of weeks. Defence and goaltending, their weak points most of the season, were superb, and the contributions of their bottom two lines at least matched those of the Bruins’ bottom two. I think their speed and quick transition game will give Boston problems. Should be a good series.

    • G-Man says:

I am happy to see the Flyers getting swept, but I’d be way happier to not see any more Bs pics. I frankly hope all their thugs get what’s coming to them.

    Thank you!

  45. baruch says:

    second that, @Bob_Sacamano & G-Man
this site has completely gone nhl-generic. no news about the dogs, its true, and they are doing pretty well, even ‘journeyman goalie’ Drew MacIntyre.
Hey Boone! What is going on with this site? I guess the old HabsIO was too good to be true, a place Habs fans around the world could truly call home. Now there’s not a single habs logo anywhere (are they also prohibited by the CdHC? )
I get my general hockey news from the crappy NHL site. HIO was the place I went to feel at home with other Habs fans. Even in the off-season, we could get excited about prospects, and enjoy the successes and failures of ex-habs.

For example did anyone notice it was Plekanec against Halak yesterday in Slovakia at the IIHF qualifying round? Plek wore 82, looked great in a Czech red sweater, but didn’t have any of his trademarked breakouts. Halak let in another softie like Osgood last night, from a bad angle short side, from about 30 ft, it cost Slovakia the game, unlike the Wings.

Now HIO is just another general hockey site. It sucks.

    • el heffe says:

How many of us expressing our distaste for the new format do you think it will require to get through to these guys. Regular posters and loyal members of this site have been bashing it for months now and nobody who matters to the scheme of HIO seems to care. Pathetic really. The fans are suppose to be what his site is all about. I guess if we all just stop visiting then maybe the creators will look into why.

nobody knows the pain of being a Habs fan in a world of Habs fans…

  46. G-Man says:

Here’s hoping Tampa Bay wipes the Bs with lots of tp. Then, TB goes on to lose against Vancouver. If the Nucks don’t make it, the other opponent (SJ) will do.
