Happy Birthday to The Flower (Guy Guy Guy)
Carey Price #31
This is off topic, but I’m hoping someone here will be able to point me in the best direction..
My father was diagnosed with acute leukemia in march, and has been fighting it with treatment up until August. He relapsed after 12 years in remission, and they now say there is nothing else they can do for him.
In 1999 he was in Toronto getting his bone marrow transplant. Someone he knew gave him tickets to see the Leafs and Bruins…and my dad is a Habs fan (and subsequently made me one). They gave him a Leafs jersey, but despite this my father sat in the stands with his bald head and cheered for the Bruins just to spite the Leaf fans around him.
Well, this was the only NHL game he has ever seen. I have never seen one. We live in Newfoundland, so it isn’t as if we can jump in the car any day and head to an NHL rink.
My grandfather was a Habs fan, my father is one, I’m one, and my 8 month old son already has his official Habs jersey in infant size.
We know my father only has, at best, months to live. We talked about going to Montreal to see a game last year when my childhood hero Koivu would return (Koivu battled cancer close to the time my father did during his first battle), but we just didn’t get around to it. Now I regret this and really want to sit in the Bell Centre with my dad and watch the Habs.
I need to find a game sooner than later for obvious reasons, but I have work commitments during some of the earlier games. The earliest game I can attend is October 22nd vs the Leafs of all teams.
Now, for those of you who made it through all of that back story, where is the best place for me to look for a couple of tickets to this game? The only place I can think of is ebay, but I’m hoping there may be another option.
If someone can point me in a direction to get 2 tickets for this game I’d be forever grateful.
Thanks

Newfoundland’s biggest Habs fan. Hands down.
Hi,
i’m so sorry to hear about your dad, and I hope there is a miracle out there for him.
I would suggest going to the Canadiens main site, as a) they tend to release tickets in the days leading up to the game and b) they have seats available now for random games, so you might get lucky.
your other option is either looking online at sites like kijiji.ca or craigslist (but beware of fake accounts), or using a site like stubhub or something (but you end up overpaying there).
Unfortunately those are the only ways I know of finding tickets.
I wish you luck.

…it’s been several years since I last watched a Habs game live …in fact it was in the ol’ Forum, so I ain’t much of a resource …but just wanted to comment Your Dad should be very proud of His Son
…hope it all works out
…AND, which part of Newfoundland do You live ?

Here you are, my friend. I used this website to get tickets for the habs at the wild where they won 8-1. Hope everything works out for you and your family.
I know the Bell is the loudest place in the League, but you’ll pay through the nose to see the game. Sure while you’re in town you can do the Hab Hall of Fame, Place des Canadiens, Smoke Meat Tour which will make it pretty special…
But have you considered going down South to see Les Habitants? You could probably sit behind the bench for the same price you’ll pay for nose bleeds at the Bell in places like Long Island, NJ, Florida, TB or Carolina and probably find decent tix in Pitt or Was for that matter too. Considering you’re trekking from Newfoundland, you might want to consider it.
And with all the Hab Fans making the trip down South, it will be like home. Just sayin’… Heck, you could probably do the roadtrip with les boys and catch them in two places…
All the best to you and your dad. I hope you get to see a game live. I remember each of my visits – at the Bell and at the old Forum. A treat every time.

Axxerd- sorry to hear about your dad. Have you tried contacting the Habs and explaining the situation? Also, there are a couple of guys on here- particularly the ones who have been actively involved in organizing the annual Summit- who have good contacts within the organization and who could possibly put you in touch with someone with the Canadiens who could help you out. Maybe start with Ian?
Sorry to hear about your dad. All the best and hope you can get tickets. Have you tried stub hub? I seen this article about the progress in the battle with cancer, thought you and others might want to have to a look.

Sorry to hear about your father Best of luck. I wish i could help out a fellow newfounlander.
The team is set going into training camp, they may keep one or two but it’s a big thing for these young guys to play and show what they can do with the pros a lot of them will be with the big team down the road, looks like we have a few good ones on the rise….
Nobody is talking about Woywitka. Has he stood out at all. Who will he be paired with tomorrow night against his old team mates
Only mention on RDS blog stated that he needs to show more ‘robustesse’ if he wants to stick with the big club.

Carey is the Man!
…another question to anyOne that knows …does RDS’ web-page stream Our Habs’ games, like CBC HNIC live on game-nights ?
…I ask because I just reinstated My Telus French-language package for RDS (best spent extra $ 5 bucks possible !, dun’t y’all tinks ?) for the living-room plasma …BUT, lately, I have becoming to prefer quietly watching online-streaming (for instance, CBC’s HNIC and TSN’s Alouettes’ games) …because recently Diabetes is increasingly affecting My eye-sight, though not needing glasses yet, still making even a 46″ TV plasma not as intimate as My PC’s 21″ monitor
…would watch HD TV when My son is not playing soccer, but would watch the game on My PC monitor when alone
…I visited the RDS site tonight and did not find any mention they are streaming Our Habs’ games …so if someOne more aware than I knows one way or other, it would be appreciated …thank You

With the right connections you can wire your TV signal to your PC.
Seeing as you’re paying for RDS anyways.

…TV and PC in two different rooms Bill …but since My TV is delivered DSL with My home phone and internet, I guess the ‘right connections’ You are referring could be between My modem and PC which are adjacent …maybe calling Telus Optik TV Tech Support wouldn’t be a bad idea to see which is best way to go watching TV signal on PC
…but, still would like to confirm from anyOne whether RDS will be streaming Our Habs’ games live on web-page

More like getting a video card connected to your PC (unless your PC is already hard coded) that can take in your TV signal. The connection would probably be S-Video but there are other ways to do it.
Here’s a good link –> http://en.kioskea.net/faq/228-how-to-connect-your-pc-to-your-tv-set
or just google “tv to video card connection”
Or you can pay me to set it up for you!!
…will pay You in Puck Bunnies maybe HH ?
…yeah, just got off the line with Telus’ Optik Tech Support …seems I would have to upgrade My monitor to HDMI-capable (which it ain’t) …alternatively, a required TV Card and appropriate software in desk-top, upgrading RAM to 3 or 4 GBs from current 2 GBs) (= $ 300 to $ 400, ouch)
…soooo, in the short-term at least, will watch on living-room TV or stay hopeful there may be a quality online stream out there I am yet unaware of
…again, thanks for taking time
…bye the way Guys, have I mentioned lately that this ‘gettin’ older’ thang, …reeeally …SUCKS !?!

I would figure there has to be a way to get the signal that goes to your living-room plasma screen direct to your computer monitor. I would recommend just getting another monitor and connecting a cable direct to it and by-pass the computer altogether.
I checked Optik’s FAQ’s and Optik TV supports up to 6 TVs, all of which can be HD TVs or a combination of SD and HD TVs.
Ask the Optik TV tech what monitors are compatible with the service. Chances are you can get one cheap at tigerdirect.ca or craigslist.
Here’s one for a song –> http://www.tigerdirect.ca/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=146827&CatId=2775
Just a suggestion.
Oh yeah. Send the puck bunnies to the summit and make all checks payable to HardHabits™ Inc.
They do stream the games, but you have to pay to watch them, don’t know if they’ll do the preseason though, I had signed up a couple of years ago, so I assume they still have it running
…thank You Thor …One would think leaving their broadcast advertising in their stream should be a reason to stream free
…I will also look into Bill’s suggestion above to adapt My PC for TV viewing
…thanks Bill and Thor for taking time to respond

11 on the injured list already. What the hell is going on?
Are all these pros ballet rejects?
How can a team come into camp in shape and have 11 on the injury list. NUTS!
3-4 are returning from injuries, the rest….#BlameYemelin
btw, shouldn’t it be 12 since Leblanc is also injured/not ready ?

dunno about anyone else, but I’m excited to see if Brock Trotter is NHL ready
- Gomez is holding down the “overpaid” button
Saw Trotter play this morning and he definitely stood out. He’s much faster and good with handling the puck in the O-zone. His speed and skating style reminds me a lot of Grabovski and SK. My friend quickly confirmed that. IMO he will be one of the first call-ups if he doesn’t make the team straight out of camp, or be the 13th forward. Going to be tight cause if JM puts DD on the 3rd line wing, that means Engqvist is centering the 4th line, and Darche seems to be the odd man out (or White since he’s injured). Dunno where that leaves Trotter…but is definitely so much quicker from playing in the KHL and he has a scoring touch bonus that could turn out profitable for the Habs 4th line with White/Moen/Darche and Engqvist.
I am going to enjoy seeing all the new faces tomorrow, especially those that are young and promising. But I am going to be watching the following players closely:
Yemelin, Cole and Weber because they have to stand out regardless of whether or not they made the team.
Diaz, Tinordi, Engqvist, Palushaj, Schultz and Trotter to see who among them stands out relative to the veterans and has the potential to make the team in the future.
I kinda hope Tinordi at one point is paired with Gill… Can’t see it happening, but would be cool to see nonetheless.

He was paired with Gill for a bit last year in preseason so why not.
I know yemelin’s a big boy, but to have him play as two players? that’s just expecting too much.
- Gomez is holding down the “overpaid” button
Yemmie. He’s made of gneiss so they’ll play him twice.
***Subbang Baby!!!***
I’ve been holding it in.. but I gotta say sumpthin’.
Hey Gomez, GREAT stuff so far! You really came back READY!
Phew… I feel better. Can’t wait to see the boys hit the ice tomorrow night. Can’t wait!

Listen to the Smart Dog. He knows his poop!
Have you read anything about how dedicated Gomez was to his training this summer ? I have, and am cautiously optimistic about Gomez this season.
A bit early to push him under the bus no ?
I guess the other 10 players who are injured slacked off in their off season training as well ?
Perspective is a good thing ya know SD.

Yah I read it, I read it.
And nothing really counts until the puck drops in the first REAL game. But it’s like when someone calls in sick over and over when they’re not sick. Then when they ARE sick you don’t have a lot of sympathy for them – or even know if it’s for real.
It’s just a shame he’s not at least warming up with the team.. and makes me think that we’ve got another of his famous “slow starts” coming. Hope I’m wrong, but my faith in the guy is fragile.
————————————-
Listen to the Smart Dog. He knows his poop!
Hey I hear ya, I still hope the Habs unload him next summer (if not sooner). Like I said, cautiously optimistic.
Pre-season injuries are quite common, certainly not something to hold against Gomer.

Here we go again, SD.
Play fair, doggie. Gomez has a low-injury career….
I feel that Gomez will have a great up comming season. Even though he is making 7 mil per, he still has pride. He was ashamed last season & he wants redemption ….
Agreed, he may never earn his full 7Million. But I do believe that Gomez was truly embarrassed by last year. And I believe he did everything possible to come back this season improved.

Talk is cheap, he can be embarrassed all he wants, but like doggie said he’s called in sick too often. He missed way too many optional practices last year when he missed easy goals set up by gionta every other game. He was one of the guys that needed those practices the most. I’ll believe he’s dedicated when I see it.
Like I said, cautiously optimistic. I too have grown tired of Glmer.
Look at this way, what you’re saying about Gomer this year, was said about Price in slightly different terms at this point last year.
Point being ? We need to chill out and let things play out. Till he plays sucky into the season. We should try and be supportive and give the guys a fair shake.

Granted it has been a while since I last commented; but isn’t this Habs site? What’s with the Leaf and Sens love? Besides his mommy, who the f**k cares about Tyler Bozak?
Good to be back, hockey starts tomorrow
Lighten up sport! If Toe Blake feels like talkin’ about the Leafs, he’ll talk about the Leafs!
I’m sure there are places where Leaf fans can all hang out together, golf courses perhaps? ( couldn’t resist, it wrote itself)
Tyler Bozak is the second coming of Dave Keon!!!
How dare you!
***Subbang Baby!!!***
Dave Keon is awesome. He won’t have anything to do with the Leafs after being screwed over by Ballard.
If the Stanley Cup were competed for in September, the Leafs wouldn’t be half bad.
They’re pretty good in March when the top 8 spots are spoken for too.
http://twitter.com/andrewberkshire
Is it me, or does it just seem so appropriate that at the end of a Leafs game they play Heave Away?
Extraordinarily appropriate.

Pretty interesting defense, looks like the battle for the #6 defenseman (minus the twin towers Gill/Tinordi)
Can someone explain to me how this gravatar thing works? I want to change my image, so I went to that site, I assumed I could log in through my h/o log in, but that wasn’t the case so I registered, so how do I put the image I have there on here?
Nevermind, just realized it worked
If that is the Leafs new goal song, I hope they never score again!
Perhaps that’s the idea, give the Leaf fans a reason to be happy the Leafs will once again fail miserably. You’re onto something here.

No, Im not going to let it go.
I don’t miss him, and will not miss AK46 either.

That being said, if AK46 comes out & scores 20 goals in 10 games I will quickly change my tune.

Lol. 5 points in 12 games. What did Boyd do? Oh right..
1A in his final 8 playoff games last year, that really helped Nashville move on didn’t it?

SF09 on Twitter
Lol. You can try to justify it with stats all you want, it was a garbage trade. He put up 50 points on a crap team in the regular season, and I think he’s going to be even better this year. Yeah he’s streaky, but so is almost every other offensive player.
Im not even saying Id want him back here, I just wish we got something for him.
When you get Top-6 time b/c your team basically has no other options but to play you, your stats tend to get a nice boost. Also see Dominic Moore’s career-best output when he was with the Loafs.
He still let his team down in the playoffs. Practically no help after their opening 3 games and he still managed to be a minus player when he was scoring half the time.

I’m disappointed Dietz got cut although I understand why. I hope he leaves camp with a better knowledge of what he needs to get better at, and how. I hope the Habs are putting in a good amount of effort with this kid. He’s raw but could be special if we mold him properly
Man.. Jared Cowen is gunna be good for the Sens. Got a nice goal and a couple hits, apparently had a fight too… and hes huge.
Lol @ the Leafs having pretty much their whole regular season roster playing in the first pre season game.
