First elimination game

Faced with the prospect of winning or going home, your Montreal Canadiens went 5-1 a year ago.

That was then.

They have to beat the Bruins at the Bell Centre to stay alive. And if they need an inspirational example, the Lightning staved off elimination on home ice last night.

A good omen: The Montreal Symphony Orchestra Brass Quintet is playing the national anthems before Game 6.

The Canadiens have never lost a game preceded by the MSO Five.

    Scott Gomez has the exact same number of goals in the 35 Habs games since February 5th as I have. He’s making close to $8mill more per year from the team than me though and is on their second scoring unit/powerplay. I feel as though I am being vastly underpaid by the team and deserve far more ice time all things considered. I believe my +/- is also better than his in that span.

  7. Habfan4lfe says:

    Lots of people in denial here. Last deciding game for Habs and Lee as the ref? Right. For once, Boone is right. This guy is bad news for us. Really bad news. This is the guy who’s screwed us more times than you want to count. What was the last game he reffed us? Isn’t he the idiot who blew the whistle when the puck was free and robbed us of a good goal? How many playoff games has this guy got under his belt? Next to none. People, he was put in the game tonight to finish off the habs. Figure it out. You think the habs will just dance around Boston tonight? God. The only hope in hell you have is our habs can put the puck in the net or actually get shots on net and score and that Thomas hasn’t got a horseshoe still stuck up his fat arse as he had for the past few games. A lot to overcome. As far as I’m concerned we’re toast. I hope they prove me wrong, but I sincerely doubt it. This isn’t a flame or anything, this is just my opinion and it’s based on the last couple of games and my remembrance of this idiot Lee.

  9. Qais says:

    Use Pouliot on the first line with Gomez and Gionta. A mircale might happen.

    Just sayin’

    • _Habsoloutly_ says:

      Pouliot isn’t playing. He sucks.

    • Da Hema says:

      With the exception of his effort to kill Ference, Pouliot did absolutely nothing on the ice during the first four games. Indeed, Pouliot made Scott Gomez appear useful–no small feat there! For whatever reason, Pouliot has decided to play himself off Montreal and possibly right out of the NHL.

      Looking for a miracle? It will have to come from Gionta and Gomez if this team is to prevail.

      • Danno says:

        Pouliot has been anything but awesome

        “Hey Richard, two minutes for looking so good!”

      • Habitoban says:

        It’s like he’s barely been on the ice… and guess what, he’s barely been on the ice. He didn’t play in games 4 and 5, and had a half dozen minutes if that in game 3. All told, 18 minutes of playoffs. That’s not to say he should play tonight, but it just seems a bit unfair to slag him for his performance so far.

      • LA Loyalist says:

        If Gomez is involved in anything remotely approaching a miracle tonight or back in Boston he will have to change his name to Lazarus because it will truly be a miracle.

        BTW, a colleague of mine who is a HUGE Beaner fan does not deny that they are deliberating keeping the ice soft in Boston to slow us down. He didn’t even try to argue it.

        I’m betting PK and Price are monsters tonight and frustrate the Bruins. Can we lock J Martin in a broom closet during the game and let Kirk run it? Go Habs!

    • Duracell3 says:

      Why do people still not consider Plekenec to be our first line centre, when he has been for years?

  10. habs365 says:

    Weber for Pouliot–not sold on that one–although Pouliot hasn’t done anything–we’ll find out tonight…….

    • kempie says:

      It will be nice to have something more threatening than Hamr/Spacek for the second wave though. Plus Weber has scored an actual goal (remember those?) in this series. That’s more than Pouliot has done. I don’t mind this move simply because we need goals and the pp is a good place to get them.

  11. Habitoban says:

    Funny how strange things pop into your mind while you’re killing time thinking about the probable lineup for tonight’s game. Things like the definition of insanity (attributed [wrongly] to Einstein, among others) as: “doing the same thing over and over again but expecting a different result.”

  12. habsfan0 says:

    If Habs are eliminated tonight or tomorrow:
    Martin & Gauthier will blame it on injuries;
    Scott Gomez will blame it on the fact he’s underpaid;
    PK will blame it on the fact he wasn’t used 60 minutes per night;
    Patrice Brisebois and Georges Laraque will blame it on fact they weren’t on team.

    However,should the Habs go on a premature summer vacation, we ALL know where the real blame should lie and who is entirely culpable: when “habsinsideout” was changed to “hockeyinsideout” at the behest of club management, the team’s fortunes immediately headed south.

  13. nick says:

    Without the “It’s because he plays for Boston, etc…” responses…
    Can someone explain to me why Wisniewski got a 2 game suspension for his gesture towards Avery this season…
    Where Ference gets a 2,500$ fine?

    Was there something I missed? Or was it because Wisniewski didn’t blame it on a wardrobe malfunction?

    • ffenliv says:

      It’s because playoff suspensions are, this yeaer anyway, typically less than what they get in the regular season. For once, I kind of agree with Colin Campbell, where he’s in situation where he can’t win with everyone. Usually I think he’s full of crap, but if one of our guys was suspended for 2 games for flipping the bird, we’d be irate. I don’t agree with suspension lengths going down come playoff time, but that’s what has happened, and so Cmapbell was consistent here.

      Now that I’m done defending that asshole, I’m gonna go rinse my mouth out with bleach.

    • naweed235 says:

      Simple: it’s because he plays for Boston!

    • Tighthead says:

      Just my opinion, but flipping the bird is much less coarse/offensive than the simulated beej deal that Wiz did.

    • Nahlsy says:

      Because Wis directed it at a player and Ference only did it to the crowd. Somehow the NHL thinks that’s better. Look at Sundin throwing his broken stick into the crowd, had he done that to a player.. yikes.
