Back-to-back shutouts against Northeast Division rivals.

First consecutive shutouts since Jan. 15-16, 2007.

Man, how BAD are the Minnesota Wild?

Memo to Max Pacioretty from his teammates: “We love you, bro. But not enough to show up in Boston.”

A 3-on-5 shorty?

C’mon man!

I would have thought we would have played a game similar to Pittsburgh, the way they went in, undermanned and still came out with a win in Philly. What is the difference between there team and ours they have a coach that knows how to prepare and motivate we have one that can speak both English and French. a top criteria for coaching in Montreal. Jacques, what have u done for me lately, in fact what have u every done? Oh by the way, that nice little playoff cushion we had going into the week of 03/13, don’t look now but it ain’t there anymore!! Time to look in the mirror boys!!!!

  9. HardHabits says:

What we’ve learned tonight. One team is built for the play-offs. The other team is broken for them.

  10. rogus says:

Kostitsyn, MacDonaugh, Grabovski, Ryder, Kovalev, Koivu, Moore, Ribeiro…

What does Montreal have to do to buy a freaking goal nowadays???

Because Mike Camma-not going in the corners-leary, Scott $8M man Gomez, and a bunch of injury returnees and MIA 4th liners aren’t getting it done.

Go Gionta, Go AK46, Go Hamr (god rest your tired bones soon), Go PK, Go Plekanec, Go Pacioretty, Go Price.

The rest of you overpaid, underskilled bums, get some heart or get outta Montreal. Markov included.

  11. beaverislandguy says:

lets back into the playoffs, like last year. OUch…hard to be a Hab fan tonight. Too quick a return for Pleks, Halpern even Sopel. No grit or desire for the last couple of games from the bench (excluding Price). Routine approach to rushes and shots from our offence, especially our powerplay.. We forgot to jam the net when things aren’t going well. Gionta had two glorious chances to score, but no… Just reeling in our own end, our defense is scary at times. The last couple of games the other teams have had our number and shut us down easily. The line juggling is poor. What can we say, SAD….oh yah puck luck and officiating calls have abandoned us, but that is part of the game. Hope we turn it around ASAP. We need size and grit. Not much hitting from anyone. I spotted an opportunity to clock Chara when he was stumbling once in the 3rd in our end..but no such luck…we had given up by then ….grrr

    • Ian Cobb says:

      WHY, no kicks in this.!

The real season has yet to begin.!

      • Fig Newton says:

Yeah, too bad the Canadiens won’t be there

        • solomio says:

Listen guys figgy’s got a point. No matter how die hard a Hab fan you are you do have to admit something is wrong.. The Hab have lost important games to the Rangers, Sabres, Caps not long ago, Bruins,.
Don’t say the playoffs haven’t started yet or those games meant nothing.I’ve got a Habs Heart but I am not blinded by it, Those failures stand out like warts. Under duress are there cracks in the dressing room?
Don’t blame the refs, thuggery or injuries.Look at the teams performance when it counts and tell me what you see, realistically.
And we are not guaranteed a play off spot and the teams below us keep winning ( yes even the Leafs) and after a win one lose one spree the Habs just maybe in free fall.
So lets stop all the rah rah rah stuff and take a look at what is really happening on the ice now. Last night was a humiliation.
Will the Habs find the resolve to come back and beat a much improved Caps team on Saturday or have the the Habs reached the end of the line? Tune in Saturday for… Habs Heart On The Line…

  13. ricardamundo says:

Yeah, it is only one game and yeah, maybe we can give Washington a game of it, but this was a game where most of the team wasn’t worthy of the sweater. Shame on the bunch of them. Tonight they failed the character test but if they don’t show up against the Caps and redeem themselves I fear that they’re done as far as advancing in the playoffs. We’d better see something soon out of Gomez, Camilleri, and yes, even Gionta or you can kiss the season goodbye. C’mon guys, you are supposed to be professional hockey players! Act like it.

  14. HardHabits says:

Well that was embarrassing. Suffice it to say the small, speedy forward experiment is over.

  15. JasonM says:

I have so many things I want to say but I won’t waste my time tonight. This was THE game to show up and all we got was a wet towel performance.

    An embarrassed fan,

  16. Ian Cobb says:

If you want to ware out your legs being the most penalized team in the league, you will not have them under you when it is time to pick up the pace offensively.

Stay out of the box, or you will be done like dinner. Slow and none competing players take penalties. It has to stop.

We just might see Markov and Max P. practising in full gear by March 30th. Do not know about Spacek.?

    • JohnBellyful says:

I’ve never understood how a team touted for its speed and puck possession doesn’t draw far more penalties than it receives. Many conclusions to be drawn: the Habs don’t have an edge in speed in most games; the other teams are far better in exerting pressure by hanging onto the puck for long stretches; the players refuse to learn from their mistakes; the system applies to only one half of the game – defence – which boils down to relying essentially on one player, Price, to make it work. And when you have so many key players missing games, the system has to buckle. More strain in store with Capitals as the next foe.

  17. JohnBellyful says:

1,114 comments! And it’s only 10:40 p.m.! Did anyone show up? I mean, from the Canadiens?

  18. Lafrich says:

It was NOT just another game. It was the BRUINS. It was the game after the incident with Patches. EVERYBODY WAS WATCHING!!!!!!

    How embarrassing for them.

  19. punkster says:

So many games there’s bound to be a few stinkers in there somewhere. Minny had one the other night. We’ve had a few but we’ve also had a few very good games so I guess they pretty well even out. Whatever.
Ya they sucked tonight. Still looks like too many guys playing hurt, too many guys out there floating and the few that did show up had no help.
Shit happens. Drive on. Don’t mean nuthin’.

    ***Subbang Baby!!!***

    • HAB-PROFESSOR says:

I don’t buy it… stinkers are games that sneak up on you and catch you by surprise… this game has been circled on the calendar.

Do not attribute this to “even out” stuff…. SORRY…
Lets face reality, and the cold hard reality is we are NOT TOUGH ENOUGH, as i have been shouting for the last 3 years… Our supporting cast: Eller/Halpern/DD/Web/Darch are not character players that will elevate and support a group of ‘smaller’ talented forwards like Pleks/Gio/Gom/Camm…

IT IS THAT SIMPLE!.. other than White and Moen who actually are good 3rd or 4th liners, we do need another 2 Stronger Forwards like a Norton type….

its really getting sickening, we need to regain our respect, otherwise lets just backup and watch from a distance…

in fact, i’m going to start watching the Habs from 20miles away, i think everything will be fine then….

Wednesday March, 9th, 2011 – the day NHL Hockey “officially” died

    • HardHabits says:

Can they even buy a goal? I too fear that there are a few more shut outs left in this bunch and I don’t mean for Price.

Gomez, Cammy and Gionta represent 1/3 of the Habs salary cap and 2/3 of the height average for top 6 forwards in the league.

The small, speedy forward in the defensive system experiment is over.

  20. Ian Cobb says:

    J. Martin and Kirk Muller gives Hab’s 2nd day off in a row!!

Sure hope the boy’s appreciates the time off, so they can practice in earnest tomorrow, Getting ready for the Capitals.

If you think Geoff Molson and Gauthier were not watching, think again!! Something will be coming down.!

  21. Keith says:

Knuckles Nilan at least made me laugh tonight because it hasn’t been a fun night. Most embarrassing game I’ve watched in over 40 years of watching the Habs. I seriously question the leadership of this team moving forward after how important this game was tonight and how they bailed. Pricey didn’t deserve this shit effort. Mara was the only guy that at least got pissed a little, but he’s only one guy! WHERE WERE THE REST OF YOU!!!

  22. SHUTTemDOWN says:

SHutt it off after the 4th goal…turned on the “not so” falling leaves, and watched Komi lay a blistering open ice hit… then fight(standing his ground)… they finished up the period w/ 2 goals.
Desperation hockey or a team w/ grit?
I thinks they emptied all the bullets in Minnie.
    Oh the horror…the horror.

  24. SLYDER says:

Can’t say I am a fan of the doom and gloom, however, in THE statement game of statement games both teams made very big statements.

Aside from Brad Marchand acting like the seasoned, veteran tough guy he most certainly is not, the Boston Bruins executed a more than perfect Montreal Canadiens (or should I say JM) gameplan. The reason I say “more than perfect” is because in addition to taking time and space away from Montreal’s skilled forwards, putting a tremendous amount of pressure on Montreal’s defencemen, getting in front of Carey Price, clogging the neutral zone, and insulating Tim Thomas – the Boston Bruins did one thing that Montreal has not been able to do all season (need I say for the past several seasons):

Dominate physically while staying disciplined for the greater part of 60 minutes.

    Credit Claude Julien

    Jacques Martin…….

How can I even begin to discuss the way the Canadiens played…

    Out HIT
    Out SHOT

    Out PLAYED

Now THAT was a Beantown Beatdown.

Can’t blame the Bruins fans for saying and thinking whatever they want about this one – they’ve earned it.

And before you click the “thumbs down” button think for a minute – If us Montreal fans were on the winning side of a 7-0 decision (maybe even 8-0 if the game was one second longer) would we be acting any different?

  25. chippawarory says:

    • Willy the bum says:

      Here’s the story:

Maurice Richard, one night, came to play a game against the Red Wings. He suffered a stiff shoulder from moving furniture in his new home with his family. He told the team to expect him not to be as his best. He went on to score five goals and three assists to make it 8-2 Habs.

Fast forward to tonight’s game. Habs took a day off prior to a game against the Bruins. No harm done, just another game, eh? 7-0 Bruins.

      Get the story?

  29. RH says:

Man, I haven’t done this in a long time. Feels good to vent. Maybe I’ll be able to get some sleep now.

  30. RGM says:

I was only 7 goals away from a big ProLine payout, too.

  31. Keith says:

    Gotta love Knuckles lol!

  32. novahab says:

I got it the Habs were playing possum so when they meet them in the playoff the Bruins will get wiped of the ice. ok enough of this Molson the ball is in your court again what are you going to do about this mess. Your team just shamed your city and all your fans.

    • Habbu says:

Shopping list for Gauthier has to include some size and toughness. We are in the East for God’s sake; up against the likes of Philly, Bruins, Rangers.

  33. mb says:

“Embarrassing” isn’t even close. I can’t even find the word to describe what a mess of a game it was.

  34. RH says:

Why do people want to fire Jacques Martin? His boring system is why the Habs are where they are.

  35. DD says:

This might be a bad time to try and flog a ticket, but I have a gig booked for Saturday night, so I have to sell one ticket to the game against the Capitals. I paid $150 for it about 6 months ago. It’s in the 300’s and there will be fellow HIO alumni there, who will be seated in the same row, so you won’t be all alone.

I will be in Montreal tomorrow, if anyone is interested, let me know.

  36. Flabadagub says:

I thought Marchands hit on Gomer was dirty. Head shot, no?

  37. novahab says:

I say they layed down becuase they knew there was no way Bettman and the refs were going to let them win. Maybe they just said hell with it why try.

  38. HabsFanInVictoria says:

Please tell me why this is JM’s fault?

    • novahab says:

      Are you kidding me

    • HAB-PROFESSOR says:

WHY???? PLEKS on the PP point, PK not on the first wave of the PP, incessant line combos, failing to reunite KOSTY with CAMM/PLEK, failing to create a legitimate 4th line (pyatt/halpern are not 4th liners) failing to bolster the grit on the team, failure to prepare the team for this game by bringing up the proper assets to counter the Bruins strength…

why is Eller in there? he is not strong enough yet… either is DD, very weak, Pouliot is falling everywhere from his own shadow..

Wednesday March, 9th, 2011 – the day NHL Hockey “officially” died

    • RGM says:

It was the biggest game of the year and the Canadiens lost 7-0.

Carey Price is All Hart! http://on.fb.me/CP31Hart
      Go Habs Go!

  39. habsfan0 says:

7-0 Boston? So what? Game could have gone either way.

  40. Habbu says:

And to think after what Recchi said….the majority still played like their intent was “not to get hurt”… If you can’t get up to play after comments like that,……unbelieveable. It shows that their fear of the big bad Bruins superceded everything else.

  41. Olay Olay Olay says:

Lots of over reaction tonight. I’m pissed too but this team isn’t as bad as it’s playing of late. Which in a way, is twice as frustrating. What happened to the speed and drive that had this team as high as 3rd in the East? I hope they can turn this ship around soon or we’ll be calling this team the Montreal Titanic’s (sorry, brutal pun, but I had to)

  42. smiler2729 says:

Now PJ Stick or whatever his name is, is blaming Gainey.

*Perfectly content as a HABS I/O member for 3 years 16 weeks… now forced here, grrrrrrr.

  43. novahab says:

The only thing that could turn this night around is one Chara foot is broken and JM gets fires and they bring in Roy.

  44. RH says:

Oh well. I picked this team to finish in tenth this season and, I guess, I’m still pleasantly surprised at how well they’ve done up to this point. Although, they haven’t clinched anything yet, and it looks like they’ll end up backing into the playoffs, they won’t go very far. Not if they play Philly or Boston in the first round anyway.

    No Toughness.

  45. smiler2729 says:

So Gomez gets crapped on for making $7.35 million… what about Plekanec and his $5 million for 6 f***ing years?!?!?!?

Price, PK, Patch, that’s all we got to build on.

*Perfectly content as a HABS I/O member for 3 years 16 weeks… now forced here, grrrrrrr.

    • Bill says:

Serious? Pleks is twice the player Gomez is and at 2/3 the price. He’s the leading scorer on the team and plays in all situations. Pleks is also younger and will still be effective at the end of his contract, unlike Gomez, who was pretty much done as of last year.

Pleks had a bad game but probably shouldn’t have played in the first place. He’s injured and should be rested for the playoffs.

      Full Breezer 4 Life

  46. novahab says:

If Martin bag skates these guys tomorrow he should be shot. JM they can t make a dam pass they cant pick up a pass never mine the skating make them pass till they drop. I been yelling about this for two years they can t pass or pick up a pass.

  47. telburk says:

Somebody call 911 – I just witnessed a Mass. murder!

  48. Flabadagub says:

    Lobotomy time.

  49. sayhey15 says:

This is not a playoff hockey team. Everybody looking over their shoulders, 2 man short goal against them, stupid penalty after stupid penalty, no desire whatsoever. “Big Guns” did not show up again and on and on. Bring Big George out of retirement and lets get some action on this team.

  50. novahab says:

Cammy should arested for stealing asking for 5 mil and playing like that.

  51. AH says:

So, where does one start after a mess like that? I am so disappointed in the embarassing effort they came out with tonight. How, how can they look Patches in the eye after that? After all that has gone on with the Bruins in the last few weeks they should have been spitting fire! Instead, they came out scared and intimidated. Where is the leadership on this team? Is it safe to assume that the leaders are supposed to be Cammi, Gio, Gomez, Plecs and Gill? If so, where was their leadership tonight? Plecs I’ll give a pass to, but the rest forget it. All year long we’ve been lauding their character, but at the most crucial time of the year in important games like this one and the last , they show no character. What a disgrace. I feel so bad for Price having to try and backstop these quitters in a pathetic performance like tonight’s! With the exception of PK, Price, and Mara, everyone else looked totally intimidated out there.

Right now I’m embarrased to be a Habs fan. After Chara’s antics, Patches injury and now Recchi’s comments, what do they do about it all?: 7-0 Bruins…..again, with the exception of PK, Price and Mara, they should be ashamed of themselves!

    • MathMan says:

What do you do with a game like this? You sigh, you shrug, and you throw it away.

What you shouldn’t do is blow it out of proportion, which is, no doubt, what nearly everyone will be doing.

It’s a bad game. It happens. It means virtually nothing. Except that the Habs probably won’t be able to catch the Bruins, but that was already a longshot because of the time remaining.

I still like the Habs’ chances should these clubs meet in the playoffs.

  52. RH says:

  53. novahab says:

If Martin is not fired after this game then the season is over and I hope they don t make the playoff then maybe they will fire him. if they do make the payoff they are gone in 4 and it will be ugly.

  54. RGM says:

On the Twitter, Stubbs asked about practice tomorrow. I suggest that they get bag-skated until there’s floods of vomit on the ice so that it matches the sentiments of fans everywhere tonight.

    Go Habs Go!

  55. smiler2729 says:

Habs suck. Plain and simple. No character, no fire, no emotion, no brains.

This is the eye opener that changes the way we look at this weak team.

  58. novahab says:

Hello Roy how fast can you get up to Montreal we have a big game against the Caps and we need a coach.

  59. HAB-PROFESSOR says:

this morning I lambasted JM/PG for not making the right adjustments for this game…. I’ve been warning the collective here that we need to callup and match TOUGHNESS… BLOODY HELL MARCHAND WAS KILLING US ALL NIGHT, THAT LITTLE PUKE.

I also said that tonight would be ” THE GREATEST HABS EMBARRASSMENT” …. IT WAS!!!!!!!!!!!

PATHETIC…. I’ve been saying this for the last 2 1/2 years, we need to bolster this lineup…

DD? is that fun over yet? 5’2″?? on a team wrought with undersized players? Pouliot tripping over his shadow? PLEKS on the point??? what is wrong with you MARTIN???? where the heck is PK on the PP? why isn’t KOSTY with CAMM… it goes on and on and it starts with PG…. ELLER? please, he is a wet noodle out there, where is he going against a Norton type? come back in about 3 years when you can shave…

its one thing to lose, but “beatings are coming”… and to take them and not have any character….oh well….

let me end with a few positives: Gomez showed alot of heart, Kosty had moments as did PK…. I don’t know what else to say.

Wednesday March, 9th, 2011 – the day NHL Hockey “officially” died

    • AH says:

Hey Habs prof., your wasting your time and keystrokes; too many pacifists on this site that still are deluding themselves that all our speedy?, skilled? midget forwards can get the job done against teams like Philly, Washington, and the Bruins that have skill AND size. They also forget that these big skilled teams are IN OUR CONFERENCE. HELLO PG!, are you there?

      • HAB-PROFESSOR says:

AH… i’m moving to a distance now for watching this team… really its hopeless in the big picture as you say, against PHILLY/BOS etc….

can you believe PG brings in HALPERN/DARCH/ELLER/DD/WEB?
my God, we are so WEAK.

Wednesday March, 9th, 2011 – the day NHL Hockey “officially” died

  60. RH says:

I haven’t commented on any game this season. Including the one where Pacioretty had the misfortune of hitting the stanchion instead of the glass, about 150mm beyond the stanchion.
I felt compelled, however, to comment on this bullsh#t I witnessed tonight.

What, did they think they had it made after scoring 8 the other night.

  61. novahab says:

Were the Habs that bad or were the Bruins all juiced up I sick of complaining about steriods . Hey guys I am dam sure you can get Riods in Montreal so start hitting the needle to. I sick of this WWF Bettman league start cheating like the rest of the teams.

  62. Olay Olay Olay says:

Looks like if we make the playoffs this year it’ll be in 8th…again. The question is, who wants to watch the team that showed up tonight play?

    break out the paper bags.

  63. Keith says:

They didn’t give a shit about this game. I hope JM and PG blow a gasket on this team because they certainly deserve it after this farce.

  64. Jdub1985 says:

I’m surprised this site has yet crashed … tonight was the Japanese Tsunami for the Habs and HIO survives wow

  65. The Juice says:

In my opinion, dressing Plex and Halpern was a mistake. Shoulda went with the same lineup as the Minny game.

“To you from failing hands we throw the torch, be yours to hold it high!”

  66. Jdub1985 says:

This wasn’t even the worst possible outcome … what happened tonight wasn’t even an outcome – it was an impossibility – and it happened!

  69. MathMan says:

You may want to avoid l’Antichambre or, indeed, most hockey pundits for a little while.

Very little sensible, realistic, or intelligent is going to be written or said after a game like this. Most of it will be complete nonsense, but the cliches have to be trotted out after every blowout (“a statement game!”), even if they have proven time and time again to be bullcrap. The outcome of a single game generally means little in the grand scheme of things, but that’s never stopped the pundits from writing their stories.

Not that l’Antichambre is worth listening to at the best of times, but after this…

  70. mrhabby says:

does the montreal media play nice with players and JM…

  71. novahab says:

You know if DD made that brutal pass on the 5 on 3 he would be bench. IT is time for JM to go this is a total Embarrassment and this team was not ready. Right now this team may not make the playoffs and if they do will they lie down.It might be wishfull think but Chara did not come back after that shoot on the foot hope its broken.

  72. Keith says:

Sergio Momesso is telling it straight up. The Booins controlled every aspect of the game tonight. Tell us how you really feel Knuckles lol!!! He’s ABSOLUTELY RIGHT!!! The worse in recent memory!
