Eastern final will start Sunday

The Canadiens will open the Eastern Conference final on Sunday, either in Boston or Philadelphia, with a 7 p.m. start time for Game 1, according to RDS.

The Flyers have forced a Game 7 in their series with a 2-1 win on Wednesday night. They were trailing the Bruins 3-0 in the series.

  1. Tremblant Habs Fan says:

I noticed that too, he also gave Hal Gill a big hug and had a few words of encouragement for him too.

  2. nunacanadien says:

Don’t forget to thank Bob for not trading Jaro Halak!  And thank Bob for stepping aside and letting JM take over.

  3. Habs4ever Fan says:

I love MAB the way he falls after he checks someone

They way he loses the puck as he carries out of his zone

    He is a great player

  4. shootdapuck says:

Dream on he’s headed to the “K” for big tax free dollars!

And in their proud tradition absolutely no pressure to produce!

    Perfect fit!

Only reason he didn’t jump in October was the Olympics when the Habs told him he would be banned from playing if he jumped his contract.

“The three stars as selected by Red Fisher of the Montreal Star:
    1st star: Henri Richard
    2nd Star: Doug Harvey
    3rd Star: Jacques Plante

Final score Detroit Red Wings 5 Montreal Canadiens 3”

  5. Rainrocket16 says:

He had the same look, expression, disgust on his face that Ovie had 2 when we took them out.

  6. J Haul says:

Whoo! I plowed that Cindy 626.3!

  7. jew4jah says:

keep in mind 2 things, he’s only 22 & we really got him off his game.  he got what he deserved, an early summer.

  8. Rainrocket16 says:

so do I..What, with the history, the injuries they have…although that Rask aint half bad.

  9. Big Bird says:

Couple of cents from the peanut gallery:

    1. Kudos to Halak.  Remember when Carbonneau started Huet instead of him against the Leafs in that final season game a couple of years ago.  Price started before him and he quietly went about his business.  This 9th round pick deserves every accolade he gets.

    2. Kudos to Bob Gainey.  I don’t agree with all of his moves but he went behind the bench and saw the issues in his team.  He went out and promptly acquired the right free agents and to a man (except for Mara) they all have made a major impact on this team.

    3. Kudos to Pierre Gauthier.  I thought trading a 2nd R. pick for Dominic Moore was stupid.  Might explain why I’m still not a GM in the NHL.

    4. Kudos to the Montreal Fans.  The 2 1/2 minute standing ovation in Game 6 was inspiring.  Unreal.

    5. Kudos to the unsung heros.  Guys like Gill, Georges, Moone, Darche, Metropolit, Pyatt, Lapierre are what makes the difference at playoff time.

    6. Boos to the Losers.  I thought S. Kostitsyn had the potential to be a top player in Montreal.  He’s just so immature that he has no future here.  What an absolute shame.

    7. Savour this moment.  Whether we beat Boston/Philly or lose in 4 straight – what this team has accomplished is unbelievable.  They gave all the ‘experts’ a giant F-YOU when everyone expected the Capitals to destroy them.

    8. I’m very proud of this team.  And they truly are a team.

  10. jew4jah says:

will it be on tsn or cbc?

either way it’s The CH on THC.

  11. Rainrocket16 says:

Habs are alive for my Birthday…17 years ago I was 14 years old…I will never forget that year as long as I live. I remember it better than my 16th!

    Who remembers DepiHatric?

  12. Gr8stFranchizEvr says:

He’s a sore loser, for sure.  A little class and credit should’ve been offered to the Canadiens by Sid, like “they did a great job containing us” and “congratulations to them on the victory”.  But, no, he just whines incessantly and shakes his head in disbelief like nobody should be able to beat the pens, escpecially not these flukes!

    Cindy Criesby.  Enough said.

  13. SeriousFan09 says:

I think a 5-game series is possible, depends on the opponent but the wave this team is riding? Incredible and they’re just getting better as the playoffs go on.

But if we have 4 7-game series in this year’s playoffs, I don’t think I’ll survive either.

    – I shall always remember Captain Koivu.

  14. alaskan_king_crab_gomez says:

Totally agree with you on that one!

  15. Big Bird says:

Can you imagine that this team was without Markov, S.Kostitsyn is effectively gone and Pouliot hasn’t done much either and yet we are in the conference finals.  We get at least 4 more games this season.  Incredible.

  16. SeriousFan09 says:

I actually pledged to lay off the guy after the “Golden Goal”, but even I have my limits. He scored the biggest goal in international hockey for Canada since 1987 and what does he do? Burns through every bit of goodwill I could have had for him and then some.

That brat is so lucky Toews played like a superstar for the entire Olympics so his spoiled *** had the opportunity to score that goal.

    – I shall always remember Captain Koivu.

  17. Mikey_39 says:

The bruins have home ice advantage with the FLyers!

  18. ooder says:

    the Russians?

last i remember ovechkin was not whining at the refs incessantly and then being a classless douche after losing in game 6

“I like what I’m seeing right now,” assessed Markov. “We’re not perfect, but we’re trying to be.”

  19. Frank2468 says:

I too was dumb founded to hear his comments in the interview as well.  He sounded like just like a kid, oh sorry my bad I made a funny he is a kid he’s “Sid the Kid”.  Anyway it does look classless on his part to actually say that, in a round about way that he thought the Habs were lucky to win and that their luck will eventually run out.  I’m sure the whole country caught that comment. It’s one thing to think it and another to actually say it and he is the Captain of his team wow.  Hope Mario punishes him and sends him to bed without any supper for that one.

Oh by the way here is a link to a on line game to play while we wait for the next round to start.  It’s a fun game to play, it’s called Whack a Penguin.

  20. deuce6 says:

“Winning is fun!” – Hal Gill

  21. Rainrocket16 says:

It is so nice to get a 4 day rest before we play the Bad News Bearss or the Pumpkins. We deserve it, Gill needs to rest that leg, Markov should be back..we may just be fully healthy for the next round wich should not be taken lightly. We will play a very physical team no matter what. But in my eyes, we have played 2 very rough teams already, no doubt the most offensive 2 in the east.

    Proud Habmerican soldier!

Remerciez tant de garçons! Ce garçon de New York du Nord ne vous oubliera jamais jamais! Je me souviens de 1986 présent de

  22. MontrealAtheist says:

I actually had respect for Crosby before this series, but his disgusting and classless display and constant whining to the referees was the lowest I have ever seen in Canadian hockey. Crosby is a disgrace for the NHL, for hockey and for Canada.

  23. MontrealAtheist says:

Boston and Philly are the two teams that eliminated us in the past two playoff runs, so either way it’ll be time for revenge.

  24. MontrealAtheist says:

Do we really want such a classless whiner to represent our country? I think not … As far as I’m concerned Crosby might as well play for the US or Russians, no big loss there for us.

  25. Rainrocket16 says:

Cheaters Never Win!! Crosby is living proof that the NHL may no longer cater to him… Bettman must have broken open his scotch and said what the hell went wrong? Then he said to himself….Maybe I have something here with these Habs…

    Habs 2   Bettman 0

  26. deuce6 says:

Crysby is the biggest baby I have ever seen in the NHL..If I ever see my kid with a Crysby jersey on, I will smack him upside the head..

I don’t want my kid idolizing a player of his BS..He will never be in the ranks of Beliveau or Yzerman as long as he continues to cry like this..

Wipe the snot off your nose, Sindey..You got Halak’ed..

Glad we kicked his powdered butt..

  27. deuce6 says:

Has the 6th or 7th seed ever had home ice advantage to start a series? lol

  28. king ddd says:

any one else notice tsn head line page has not changed since canada lost to swiss. the habs just did the unthinkable c’mon u buffoons!

    .::moen for captain::.

  29. stephen says:

Getting away from Sidney’s petulant attitude, I have to admit I was really impressed with old man Guerin’s graciousness during the handshakes. I’m no lip-reader, but he took the time to stop Halak for a good moment and obviously gave him his congratulations. A tremendous display of sportsmanship in my book.

  30. VancouverHab says:

And this. I just watched Coach’s Corner, and (beside Don crediting Bob for this — he’s reading my mail) he shows Moen looking like Byfuglien — simply running Penguins over. Bob Gainey obviously knew that Moen simply triples his intensity when the playoffs start — oh and I’ve been forgetting to thank Bob for getting Jaro Spacek, along with Gomez, Gill, Gio & Cammi, Moen, etc etc. So … thanks!

  31. BKAK72 says:

rule:  players appearing in 41 regular-season games or one Stanley Cup Final
game for the championship team have their names engraved on the Cup. The
NHL makes exceptions for players who do not meet the standard because
of injury or other extenuating circumstances.

    — I will not apologize for being a delirious HABS fan! —

  32. BKAK72 says:

CROSBY was and remains a suck.  Anyone with an ounce of integrity recognizes this, and would not surprise me if it had a negative affect in the room throughout the series.  Think about this, how many people do you know that like working or hanging with whiners?

    — I will not apologize for being a delirious HABS fan! —

  33. stephen says:

Sorry, Sidney, that’s a penalty 10 seconds in, with 10 seconds left, or anywhere in between.

  34. Harani says:

“I was stunned,” Crosby said. “I don’t know how that’s a penalty 10 seconds into the game.” Stop the whining Kid, that was dumb and the ref had the cojones to call you for it. Jeesuz!

     “I gotta feeling…that tonight’s gonna be a good night!”“I gotta feeling…that tonight’s gonna be a good night!”

  35. BKAK72 says:

I can watch MOEN’s goal over, and over, and over…too funny!

    — I will not apologize for being a delirious HABS fan! —

  36. idle says:

Yes it’s way ahead of ourselves but it would be funny if S.K got his name on the cup and then after the season he says to Martin “coach, I’m a Stanley Cup winner… eat a dick” and then leaves for the K.

    It’s a MAB MAB world.

  37. arrow says:

NEXT series we are ready, Bruins or Flyers we don’t care! Revenge is sweet, it would be nice to play Boston and  KILL the series, but the Flyers would be OK! Who cares we are off to the FINALS! STANLEY CUP here we come!

    GO HABS GO!!!

  38. 21272andme says:

this is getting way ahead of ourselves. but.

laraque played 28. doesn’t make the cut (if your guideline is right).

markov (45) and mara (42) just make it.

sergei would get on (47), and so would maxpac (52).

  39. idle says:

Exceptions have been made for reasons like injuries or other circumstances (Mara?).  I can’t remember if Savard was an exception in 93 or if his name was left off.

    It’s a MAB MAB world.

  40. canada4l says:

Back up goalies are on the bench for the game. That is enough. If a player is dressed for the game and just sits on the bench without a shift it still counts as a game played.

  41. idle says:

Goalies dressing as back up is considered playing.

    It’s a MAB MAB world.

  42. HABSsince92 says:

What about goalies becuase I am pretty sure I have seen backups on the cup who didn’t play in the finals?

Been a Habs fan since I was in 2nd grade and sat behind Patrick Roy at the Aud.

Not bad huh Sutter? No no you’re right you were better off with Oli Jokinen. Lol.

  45. stephen says:

I may be wrong, but I seem to recall the rule being that a player had to have played at least 41 regular season games OR a single Cup Final game.

Don’t think BGL played that many this season. Or in his entire Habs career, come to think of it.

Jumping in late from the west coast…

Who was the genius ( no sarcasm) who predicted a 5-1 bitch slapping of Cindy Gina and company ? i saw that post this afternoon and thought “no way such a blow out” … but hey we are no winning the games when we can and shouild …. and voila ….the habs sucked the life out of the penguins. first nail in the igloo in ’67 and last 5/11/2010.

Mario. tuck Sidney in, will ya ?

loved seeing 20K in the Bell ( quiet in Pitt)

ANYWAYS friggen happy as hell with the habs. Questionl habs win cup does Laraque get his name on it

  48. pmaraw says:

ok, i was wrong about 2pm start

note: Cammy has 12 goals on 48 shots, shooting 25%

  49. habaholic68NJ says:

Hey Timo.  I think the gelling period is over.  Still think this team is a bunch of lazy bums?

  50. madmat411 says:

can’t the bruins do ANYTHING right? 😛

  51. Carta-Hab says:

Well….what can I say?  Unbelievable!  I have not been on this site alot, but have been following this magical run.  I have never been prouder to be a habs fan.  What I like the most about this is the fact that finally, after years and years, the team is getting the respect it deserves.  Of course, this would not have happened if not for Bob Gainey’s miracle make over.  Players with skills AND heart.  It is a winning combination no matter how you slice it.  We may not have a Crosby or Malkin, but we have a team that believes in each other and are dedicated to giving it their all.  Bravo boys, bravo!

As for the next round, both the Flyers and the Bruins are dealing with some signigicant injuries.  I hate to say it, but Montreal may have it relatively easy compared to the first two rounds if they keeping playing the way they do.  We have lost to both Boston and Philly in our last two post season exits, so the history is there.  I think I would prefer the bruins, only because their offense is absolutely anemic right now and they are missing both Sturm and Krejci.  Probably the biggest concern I have is that we may actually out shoot an opponent!  Halak may get bored and lose his edge haha.  Once again, nothing but positive vibes for all right now.  I am proud and happy to be taking part in this ride with everyone!  To the Cup!

a schedule is a schedule.  They can send Providence just in case… (but that would be assuming…)

  54. habs-hampton says:

    No more Sunday afternoon games!!

NBC has lost interest since Bettman broke his promise to let Sid and Ovie meet in the conference finals.

  55. Bob_Sacamano says:

What if they play like 60 Ot´s? Will the game still be Sunday? I can´t f*****g wait.

  57. gatorhabs says:

I don’t care who wins game seven between Boston and Philly, as long as they kick the crap out of each other, and maybe get some triple overtime action, I’ll be happy.

    Let the dream continue…
