Eastern final will start Sunday

The Canadiens will open the Eastern Conference final on Sunday, either in Boston or Philadelphia, with a 7 p.m. start time for Game 1, according to RDS.

The Flyers have forced a Game 7 in their series with a 2-1 win on Wednesday night. They were trailing the Bruins 3-0 in the series.

Habs are alive for my Birthday…17 years ago I was 14 years old…I will never forget that year as long as I live. I remember it better than my 16th!

    Who remembers DepiHatric?

  2. Gr8stFranchizEvr says:

He’s a sore loser, for sure.  A little class and credit should’ve been offered to the Canadiens by Sid, like “they did a great job containing us” and “congratulations to them on the victory”.  But, no, he just whines incessantly and shakes his head in disbelief like nobody should be able to beat the pens, escpecially not these flukes!

    Cindy Criesby.  Enough said.

I think a 5-game series is possible, depends on the opponent but the wave this team is riding? Incredible and they’re just getting better as the playoffs go on.

But if we have 4 7-game series in this year’s playoffs, I don’t think I’ll survive either.

Totally agree with you on that one!

  5. Big Bird says:

Can you imagine that this team was without Markov, S.Kostitsyn is effectively gone and Pouliot hasn’t done much either and yet we are in the conference finals.  We get at least 4 more games this season.  Incredible.

  6. SeriousFan09 says:

I actually pledged to lay off the guy after the “Golden Goal”, but even I have my limits. He scored the biggest goal in international hockey for Canada since 1987 and what does he do? Burns through every bit of goodwill I could have had for him and then some.

That brat is so lucky Toews played like a superstar for the entire Olympics so his spoiled *** had the opportunity to score that goal.

“I like what I’m seeing right now,” assessed Markov. “We’re not perfect, but we’re trying to be.”

  9. Frank2468 says:

I too was dumb founded to hear his comments in the interview as well.  He sounded like just like a kid, oh sorry my bad I made a funny he is a kid he’s “Sid the Kid”.  Anyway it does look classless on his part to actually say that, in a round about way that he thought the Habs were lucky to win and that their luck will eventually run out.  I’m sure the whole country caught that comment. It’s one thing to think it and another to actually say it and he is the Captain of his team wow.  Hope Mario punishes him and sends him to bed without any supper for that one.

Oh by the way here is a link to a on line game to play while we wait for the next round to start.  It’s a fun game to play, it’s called Whack a Penguin.

It is so nice to get a 4 day rest before we play the Bad News Bearss or the Pumpkins. We deserve it, Gill needs to rest that leg, Markov should be back..we may just be fully healthy for the next round wich should not be taken lightly. We will play a very physical team no matter what. But in my eyes, we have played 2 very rough teams already, no doubt the most offensive 2 in the east.

I actually had respect for Crosby before this series, but his disgusting and classless display and constant whining to the referees was the lowest I have ever seen in Canadian hockey. Crosby is a disgrace for the NHL, for hockey and for Canada.

  13. MontrealAtheist says:

Boston and Philly are the two teams that eliminated us in the past two playoff runs, so either way it’ll be time for revenge.

  14. MontrealAtheist says:

Do we really want such a classless whiner to represent our country? I think not … As far as I’m concerned Crosby might as well play for the US or Russians, no big loss there for us.

  15. Rainrocket16 says:

Cheaters Never Win!! Crosby is living proof that the NHL may no longer cater to him… Bettman must have broken open his scotch and said what the hell went wrong? Then he said to himself….Maybe I have something here with these Habs…

Getting away from Sidney’s petulant attitude, I have to admit I was really impressed with old man Guerin’s graciousness during the handshakes. I’m no lip-reader, but he took the time to stop Halak for a good moment and obviously gave him his congratulations. A tremendous display of sportsmanship in my book.

  20. VancouverHab says:

And this. I just watched Coach’s Corner, and (beside Don crediting Bob for this — he’s reading my mail) he shows Moen looking like Byfuglien — simply running Penguins over. Bob Gainey obviously knew that Moen simply triples his intensity when the playoffs start — oh and I’ve been forgetting to thank Bob for getting Jaro Spacek, along with Gomez, Gill, Gio & Cammi, Moen, etc etc. So … thanks!

Well….what can I say?  Unbelievable!  I have not been on this site alot, but have been following this magical run.  I have never been prouder to be a habs fan.  What I like the most about this is the fact that finally, after years and years, the team is getting the respect it deserves.  Of course, this would not have happened if not for Bob Gainey’s miracle make over.  Players with skills AND heart.  It is a winning combination no matter how you slice it.  We may not have a Crosby or Malkin, but we have a team that believes in each other and are dedicated to giving it their all.  Bravo boys, bravo!

As for the next round, both the Flyers and the Bruins are dealing with some signigicant injuries.  I hate to say it, but Montreal may have it relatively easy compared to the first two rounds if they keeping playing the way they do.  We have lost to both Boston and Philly in our last two post season exits, so the history is there.  I think I would prefer the bruins, only because their offense is absolutely anemic right now and they are missing both Sturm and Krejci.  Probably the biggest concern I have is that we may actually out shoot an opponent!  Halak may get bored and lose his edge haha.  Once again, nothing but positive vibes for all right now.  I am proud and happy to be taking part in this ride with everyone!  To the Cup!

Couple of cents from the peanut gallery:

    1. Kudos to Halak.  Remember when Carbonneau started Huet instead of him against the Leafs in that final season game a couple of years ago.  Price started before him and he quietly went about his business.  This 9th round pick deserves every accolade he gets.

    2. Kudos to Bob Gainey.  I don’t agree with all of his moves but he went behind the bench and saw the issues in his team.  He went out and promptly acquired the right free agents and to a man (except for Mara) they all have made a major impact on this team.

    3. Kudos to Pierre Gauthier.  I thought trading a 2nd R. pick for Dominic Moore was stupid.  Might explain why I’m still not a GM in the NHL.

    4. Kudos to the Montreal Fans.  The 2 1/2 minute standing ovation in Game 6 was inspiring.  Unreal.

    5. Kudos to the unsung heros.  Guys like Gill, Georges, Moone, Darche, Metropolit, Pyatt, Lapierre are what makes the difference at playoff time.

    6. Boos to the Losers.  I thought S. Kostitsyn had the potential to be a top player in Montreal.  He’s just so immature that he has no future here.  What an absolute shame.

    7. Savour this moment.  Whether we beat Boston/Philly or lose in 4 straight – what this team has accomplished is unbelievable.  They gave all the ‘experts’ a giant F-YOU when everyone expected the Capitals to destroy them.

    8. I’m very proud of this team.  And they truly are a team.

My boy Halak continues to prove Gainey wrong. Gainey was the only one that wanted to dump Halak as Price was his protégé. Gainey’s obsession with Price brought his popularity in Montreal to an all-time low and moreover, he was never able to admit that he made a mistake in signing Price for big money. Sure, Gainey was an OK GM and Montreal has seen worse GMs before, but ultimately Gainey will be remembered for his failure to recognize the genius of Halak which ultimately cost him his job.

Halak is beaming right now, “Look, Gainey, I’m the REAL number 1. Your so-called ‘thoroughbred’ is sitting on the bench.”

  65. terrygain says:

Winning is not all that counts. We are winning despite these kinds of obviously  stupid coaching decisions. MAB should be limited to the PP and the 4th line. It’s not as if he will harm the 4th line, whose ice time is under 3 minutes. We are playing with fire every shift MAB is on the ice even handed. And O’B is our only hitter on D. Not playing him is just plain stupid.

Jaro Halak explained the Habs success all too well!  Halak is great for sure, and the whole team is stepping up to block shots for Halak, because hey, Halak is a team player!  We blocked more shots and saved more shots, and then scored more than they did, although in the west only one game in the west semifinals was a low scoring affair between San Jose and Detroit.   Anyone know Halak’s record against either the Sharks or the Hawks?  I know I’m getting ahead of myself, and the habs still have to beat either the flyers or bruins.

  71. GERRY FROM THE WEST ISLAND says:

Martin is playing MAB instead of O Byrne because MAB has a 104 mph slapshot from the point.Defensively MAB is not able to handle the big forwards, but it came down to who do you play Gill or Obyrne,as Georges,PK,Hamerlik, are solid defensively, and Darche had to be on the bench in case….

MABs slapshot was key in game 7 in Washington,as he rocketed in the first key goal.

  81. MontrealAtheist says:

Our goaltending issue has indeed been solved and definitely not in the manner that Bob Gainey envisioned or anticipated. Had Gainey remained GM, our goaltending issue would also have been solved with Halak having been traded away. Gainey never believed in Halak and only saw in him a backup goalie for Price.

Halak for slovak paper, when asked about his heroic play and that he was able to did THIS to defending champions:

“My sme to dokázali, nie ja. Chlapci odviedli perfektnú prácu. V prvej polovici zápasu hrali neuveriteľne,” konštatoval na margo svojich spoluhráčov Jaroslav Halák a pokračoval: “Ja som tu na to, aby som chytal. Našťastie sa mi podarilo niekoľko zákrokov a chlapci výborne zablokovali mnoho streleckých pokusov.” Strelili sme viac gólov ako oni a to bolo rozhodujúce,”

“We did it, not me. Boys did a perfekt job, in the first period they played unbelieveably - said Jaroslav Halak about his teammates and continues: “I am here to catch. I was lucky enough to make some saves and boys blocked a lot of shots. We simply scored more goals than they did and that was the difference.”

HAPPY BIRTHDAY JARO AND THANK YOU FOR THIS YOU BELONG TO HABS, HOPEFULLY FROM TIME TO TIME YOU WILL COME TO PLAY WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP FOR SLOVAKIA :-))

  86. MontrealAtheist says:

I’m willing to bet that a lot of coaches in the NHL could take the current roster of the Canadiens and still manage to get eliminated against the Caps or the Pens. Just having a capable set of players is no guarantee that they’ll bring result and no GM in the world can know with 100% precision how a set of players will be developing over the course of a year.

Or are you saying that it was BG’s masterplan all along to assemble a team that makes the playoffs with the last game of the regular season through a loser point against the Leafs just to make an unbelievable run for the Stanley Cup afterwards? If that was his plan, he should have been fired for incompetence long time ago since a single unexpected injury could have foiled this plan and caused the Habs to have one less point and to miss the playoffs entirely and nobody here would even be talking about Gainey or his supposed genius.

HI all – avid reader and first time posting. I am revelling as all of Habsdom is. Happy that we truly discovered the extent of the Pens’ Halak-tose Intolerance last night.

BTW, I am trying to start a Facebook group to encourage the Bell DJ to replace the Simple Plan Goal song with the original fave by l’Oreille : http://drop.io/goalsong.

Let’s do it! I was also be writing my well informed opinions about everything and everything, like Lord Boone, during the games. And setting up meets at certain watering holes in the City.

Love you guys, keep up the astute, apt and passionate talk, and I’ll joing in more in Rd. 3, MOST ASSUREDELY!!!!

Carey Price has acted calm and collected throughout these playoffs

He has really found his zone.

I have a spiritual story that HIO fans may find interesting.

In 1971 on May 4 a horrible landslide occurred in a small town in Quebec,St Vianney in which 31 people died. The Canadiens that year faced the Boston Bruins who had won the cup in 1970 with Orr and Esposito in their prime. The Canadiens beat Boston in 7-the final score in game 7, 5-2.

In St Jude a horrible landslide just occurred .People died.

Montreal just played the defending cup champions and also won game 7, 5-2.

    EERIE!

If history is in some weird twilight zone way repeating we will win the next series in 6 games(Canadiens beat Minnesota in 6 in 1971).And we Will win the Staneley cup in 7 (Montreal beat Chicago in 7 in 1971).

Oh yes,one more major similarity was that a young goalie came up who stood on his head and was the key factor in the cup win-Ken Dryden.

Unfortunately i was old enough to remember every detail of that playoff run which to me is still the most amazing run i have ever seen in hockey playoff history. You see the Canadiens had missed the playoffs the year before and were given NO CHANCE of winning the cup(Sound Familiar?) .

However to be honest Halaks performance is better than Drydens, and i would be interested to hear what Dryden has to say about Halaks performance to date.

What is really weird is that we have a chance of meeting Chicago in the final, just like in 1971.

Well,i am putting this out there,as i believe nothing happens by chance.

Do I believe the Canadiens will make it to the final against Chicago and win in 7?

    Yes.

  92. habs001 says:

the habs are not a high scoring team..both boston and philly play a tight checking game…so regardless who we play the chances are all games will be one goal affairs..with the injuries and make up of both teams boston better match up….leighton with the flyers has played well in most games this year…briere allways kills the habs..

  93. Storm Man says:

Who is this MAB guy your talking about???? Nothing better then coming to a Calgary office today wearing a Habs jersey hope your having a good day also.

  95. habsguy says:

thats what you have to say after after a win like that,  you’re not a fan,  you’re more like one of the looters from lastnight!!!

  96. Habs4ever Fan says:

    My friend

    Much bigger fan than most

I go to over 30 games a year and have 4 seats at the Bell Center

I endured Carey Price’s immaturity in the playoffs and in key games and his lack of respect for the CH.

Last year’s behaviour in Boston with that Fan (after he got pulled) really turned me off.

I have gone to every playoff game this year in Montreal and unlike so many of the band wagon jumpers I have been a believer in this team since day 1 of the season

  97. Ghosts of the Forum says:

    Hey all,

I just moved back to Calgary for the summer.  Any other Calgarians on here know a good spot to watch the games?  I was thinking it would be good to get all the Calgarian Habs fans, or as many as possible, together to watch the games.  Bring back the the Red Mile for les boys~!

  98. ed lopaz says:

Habs hockey = Smart hockey we work as a team, and we win as a team. we play 5 man defence – not just 2.

a word about the rioters. montreal seems to allow it! the youth in montreal are NO DIFFERENT than the youth in any major city all over the world.

the difference here: montreal police allow the rioting to start and then its too late.

    Hello POLICE!!!

How about we figure out how to control the crowds BEFORE the riots begin???

I don’t blame the youth – they are idiotic and intoxicated – no different than anywhere.

If you don’t appreciate rioting and looting – and I don’t, since I live here with my family – its time to start holding the people responsible…..accountable.

The police who were supposed to keep the peace last night should be held accountable.

  99. noelsroyce says:

O’Byrne takes stupid penalties…that’s why he’s not playing as much as MAB.

  100. RJB says:

Really? We just beat the defending champs in 7 after beating the President’s trophy winners in seven…with the team that BOB GAINEY built, and you are faulting him for his supposed “obsession over Price?” I’m pretty sure Bob Gainey is not sitting somewhere thinking “Oh gee, if only I hadn’t played Carey so much, I would still have my job!” Just fyi, Gainey did not lose his job because he wanted to play Carey Price, all those people who think that is the reason he stepped down (not fired) and that he FORCED Carey upon his coaches are not giving much credit to the character of Bob Gainey and are doing a great diservice to an upstanding man who bleeds the Montreal colours.

I’m glad our goaltending issue has been solved, and I look forward to some bright years with Jaro between the pipes, and I wish Price the best wherever he may end up!

  101. Grabbed The Cup says:

Going to an @ss-load of games doesn’t make you a big fan, look at all the late-arriving corporate weasels that populate the seats in laffland, would you call theim ”real fans”?

You leave me little notes on my pillow. Told you 158 times I can’t stand little notes on my pillow. “We’re all out of cornflakes. F.U.” Took me three hours to figure out F.U. was Felix Unger!

  102. ab-hab-nut says:

Very very happy we won, I do believe it feels like ’93. Just one point I want to make, why are we playing MAB and sitting O’byrne? Does JM have a man crush on MAB?

  103. ab-hab-nut says:

Maybe the Calgary Flames would like to sign your MAB!!

  104. habs-hampton says:

Sorry Slovak, but Jaro will not be available for the World’s for many years. He will be busy nexy May and the one after that and …..

  105. KenD29 says:

Whatever, they’re winning and that’s all that matters!

Tonight we skate with them, Tonight is our night!

  106. Habs4ever Fan says:

    OK

    I am not a fan…..OF CAREY PRICE

HUGE fan of the Boys so thanks for offering your comments about my loyalties. I really don’t care what you have to say

  107. KenD29 says:

Believe Western final is an afternoon affair.

Tonight we skate with them, Tonight is our night!

  108. habsguy says:

sorry if I ruffled your feathers…I guess some fans (like me) celebrate by seeing the positive side,  coming here and cheering the team as a team,  as one unit,  unlike other fans (like you) who can find negetives out of something so totally awesome that (we) fans have waited for since 1993…….What must you think of sir Patrick after his antics when he was pulled……Or Max…You see,  I can see that Carey as immature as he was, looks to me like he’s done a complete 360 and has turned into the ultimate team player!!!!!

  109. kempie says:

Quite a few of us have been going to Schanks on Crowfoot. Was there for both game 7s and, so far, it’s worked out pretty well.

  110. habsguy says:

BTW,  I noticed you took a shot at Mabs as well !!!!!

  111. Rainrocket16 says:

Glad to see you in good spirits Timo!

  112. spos080808 says:

So when can we expect you to totally trash the players, management, coaching etc? After the first game they lose in the series, or maybe after a win that they just barely get?…Either way we know you will be the typical joke you are and trash the entire franchise at some point…

Well you do not do that when they win a huge game. You jump off and on the bangwagon faster than anyone. FRAUD!

No offense but soccer really sucks. When you grow up with hockey, soccer is just a little game for 4 year olds. But hey Montreal has a soccer team and Toronto has one, well, hey, that’s just one more game we can be better at than them.

I am very happy that unlike between round 1 and 2 we will have more than 1 day off to get our barings together and get healthy (or as close as you can get to healthy during the playoffs) I fully believe that game 1 was a loss against Pitt due to having to play less than 48 hours after such an emotional series and not even being able to get home first. But it all worked out in the end which must suck for Washington, Pittsburgh, and that jackass Gary Bettman.

Been a Habs fan since I was in 2nd grade and sat behind Patrick Roy at the Aud.

  123. rogieshan says:

Can’t understand the reasoning behind dressing only six defensemen when Metropolit, Darche and Pouliot all played under 3 mins. Feel sorry for O’Byrne he had to sit. Don’t like the idea of Bergeron in regular pairing for next round. Who sits if Markov is ready?

  124. SeriousFan09 says:

I would say use 7 Defencemen if Markov can play, you limit his time per game since his bad knee is going to make his work as a skating defencemen harder, use him as the PP specialist over MAB and combined with Subban, the best PP tandem on the blue line you could imagine. You run Gill-Gorges, Spacek-OB and Hamrlik-Subban as regular pairs but use Markov as well to supplement the lineup at times.

  130. Mr. Biter says:

Point was brfore last night’s game we were supposed to lose (lucky to be there), then after we win we are now the favorites to win the cup. What a difference 1 game makes.

  131. Dintrox says:

Oh what a night! Being a Habs fan in BC can be a lonely proposition but I’m walking on air. The turning point in the series versus the Pens was game 6 when the Bell fans rocked the roof off for  2 minutes after Squid scored his second of the night. Was there anyone that had any doubt that the Habs would take the game and the series after that? Bring on the bruins or the flyers, this ride is just getting started!

December 4, 2009 – Elmer Lach’s jersey took its rightful place with the Rocket’s in the rafters.
