@Trapped in Niagara Falls, you may not have golf courses in national parks in the US but regardless where you develop the course, you’re taking down the trees and wildlife. A tree is a tree is a tree despite it’s location.
Is it a bad omen to enter the playoffs with an article about golf and a picture of the league’s MVP walking around a golf course? I know TSN has focused most of their stories on golf this week (because their Leafs are gone), but the Habs haven’t been bounced yet so we shouldn’t be saying the G word should we?
I agree that golfing takes up too much land. Simply ridiculous. But at the same time so do our lawns.

Just thought everyone would like to know that i spotted Jonas Gustavsson at the coffee shop across from my building about 15 minutes ago. He looked pretty bummed out. Either because the Leafs are shit and he’s going to be stuck at back-up all next season or because his girlfriend is a 3 out of 10, on a good day.
Jury is still out.

never said that, but no we do not have golf courses in national parks. kinda defeats the idea of preservation, no?
its public land for use by everyone as well as wildlife, not for a select few who choose to play a specific game. i find the course in cape breton np to be a particularly ridiculous eyesore.
i have the same issue with my local government where over half of our largest park is a ‘public’ golf course, yet there are no basketball courts to be found. coincidentally the game that takes the most physical space is played by the least amount of people. and even if everyone liked it, how many can play at the same time?
basically all i am saying is that they should be on private land.
Not true, quick google search reveals courses at Yosemite, Zion, Glacier, and I’m sure there are others.
“We” have several on NY state park land and many of them are world class (not that I am defending the embarrassing NYS gov’t).
In several cases Golf courses are green spaces amid suburban sprawl, and do in fact offer habitat for wildlife and are gigantic CO2 sponges.

Dump poison ?? Maybe you should get your facts straight, the majority of courses today don’t use chemicals, I happen to be a member of one which hasn’t used chemicals in years. You probably hate golf because you’re no good at it.
Would you rather have a parking lot? A housing development? An office park? A mall? Golf courses preserve nature in ways that few other land uses come close to doing. And, it’s a great game — one of the few where peolpe of all ages and abilities can play together, get some exercise, and be outdoors in a natural environment. You also don’t see too many golfers dropping their gloves and bashing each other’s heads in. Your post unfortunately reflects the typical numbskull attitude towards something you don’t understand. Educate yourself. BTW — the golf course in Banff Springs is one of the most beautiful and well cared for pieces of real estate on the planet. I shared the first fairway there with a group of elk. Have you ever been close enough to say hello to an elk? If not, maybe you should take up golf.
Wow, a great post, that is exactly how I feel about the sport… have all new clubs except my putter and can not wait to tee it up!!!!
100 acres gets used to build a golf course, which is green space, most chemicals are getting greener and water being recycled. Not to mention that a golf course absorbs much more carbon then a parking lot or city…. So are crops also a waste of land, especially since the land is cultivated annually.

Another blown call last night on Hossa’s goal against the Blues. Forget they weren’t sure if it crossed the line or not, he fricken KICKED it in! The fact that they could miss such a blatant call — what a joke.

Wow! You are right – he clearly kicked it in and it clearly did not go in. As I’ve said before the reason the league doesn’t care about justice is that it is run by lawyers. Lawyers learn on day one that justice isn’t the point, winning your case is.

Not sure what Calgary did to deserve it but Dallas won the cup on a crease violation that they called all year up until the most important goal of the year….

Man, if I were a Flames or Stars fan, I’d be more than a little upset. They got that one wrong on a number of levels. Kicked in? Definitely. Over the line? There’s no shot showing conclusively that the puck had crossed the line, so no goal should be awarded.
I don’t understand the whole “revert to the call on the ice” thing. The reason that they’re checking the replays is because there’s a good chance that the call on the ice was wrong in the first place… so why use the original call if all of those replays don’t show the puck in the net? Just say, “Hey, we’re not positive that the puck was in, so we’re going upstairs for a better view. None of the replays conclusively showed the puck to be in the net, so we’ll rule it a no-goal”.
On top of that, when the overhead camera was installed did no one from the league check to ensure that they could see the entire goal line?
My solution? A couple of mini-cameras tucked up in behind the crossbar so that the entire length of the goal line can be viewed unobstructed. And for a better view for the general overhead camera, replace the netting on the top of the goal with plexiglass.
They called it a goal because it was not directly redirected into the net it hit the post first then went in.

Actually it hit his stick after his foot and it did cross the line. That was the correct call and the goal was good. Raising a stink about it doesn’t make much sense, especially considering the last 3 or 4 goals that have been scored against Dallas in their last 2 games have been waved off to give Dallas the wins.
So guys it looks as if we’ll be playing either Philadelphia or Boston in the first round. A month ago I’d be extremely worried, today, not so worried. I guess out of the two opponents, I’d rather play the flyers. Mainly because Pronger and Briere aren’t 100% and their goaltending isn’t top notch like the Bruins.
Hey, even if the Bruins or Flyers are favored in a series we’ve still got some pretty good weapons. We’ll need plenty of ice bags after the games but our offence is good, not always true in the regular season, we have some good secondary scoring with Eller, Darche and Pouliot, Subban and Wisniewski are awesome on the power play, PRICE!!!, and Martin has a good “tight” system in place.
If Markov and Gorges were available, I don’t think either of those teams would be favored. However, we’ll just have to play with the cards we’ve been dealt and also hope Pacioretty surprises everyone and rejoins the team for game one or shortly after.
We might not be the favorites but we have more than just an outside shot!!!!

Oh and yeah, the Masters is amazing!!! Especially today with HD television and a kick ass home theatre system! Feels like you’re in the galary.
Let’s be honest here, the Masters is a lot more important than any games the Habs will play this week. As well, I’m not sure there is any strategic way that Montreal can align itself against a perferred foe in the first round. Let the chips fall where they may.

Apparently Mr. Weir, once my favourite golfer, acknowledged his game is completely lost and he says he is starting back with the basics, stance and ball positioning.
Can the Leaf players book their tee times for April 11th a year in advance? It’s not “plan the parade” but rather “plan the tourney”.
He also made the dreaded mistake of making swing change to Stack and Tilt. He is now back to old swing coach, but very hard to get this stack and tilt out of his game. Aaron Baddeley made the same mistake, he said it has taken 2 years to get rid of those habits. Problem is Weirsy is a little old by golf standards to be rectifying all his problems. Health was indeed a big issue for him also.

he lost his confidence as soon as he lost the Bell Canadian open that year when he imploded. Ever since then he has got worse and worse.

he was dealing with a horrible wrist injury, that coupled with his lack of confidence has turned him into the shell of a golfer that he once was.

You ought to hear Mike Weir do the Chevy Chase/Bill Murray scene from Caddyshack, when Ty Webb winds up in Carl Spackler’s hovel and decides to play through. Weir knows the scene down to the syllable and does both voices PERFECTLY. Absolutely had me rolling on the floor at the Canadian Open a few years ago. Fellow pros couldn’t believe it…
