The desperation wasn’t there because they’re probably saving themselves for the game tomorrow. The points would have been nice (it would have been great to pass Boston in Boston) but at this stage I just want to beat them and take the season series.
Gosh Darn It! I was hoping to go into tomorrow night’s game either a point back or ahead of those nasty Bruins!
Looking ahead, as much as I’d love to see the tar beaten out of Lucic or Chara, I don’t think we can go down that road. Maybe next season if Gauthier brings in a 1st class heavyweight fighter to play on the bottom six or as a 6th defenseman, but we don’t have that right now. Mara, White or Moen would be in big trouble in a fight against either of those guys and it would just give the Bruins more momentum.
Hopefully Plekanec is in the lineup and Cammalleri can forget about what’s ailing him for three periods. We’ve got to attack them with speed and capitalize on the power play.
We’ve got to let the Bruins chase Subban around the ice like a bunch of idiots and make them take dumb penalties.
Put Subban and Wisniewski on the back end of the PP and start firing lasers!
If the situation arises where Moen or White must drop the gloves to stand up for themselves or the team, than go for it! But we just don’t have the firepower to stand toe to toe with the Bruins in the hitting or fighting department!
That’s not to say PK can’t deliver an awesome open ice hit but we don’t want to be running around and forget what makes us a good team.
Honestly, I think White can more than hold his own against Lucic, but the big putz wont drop em with someone as crazy as White. Crazy, but not crazy enough to dance with Chara… No one is that stupid. CHARA SMASH
Olé, olé, olé oleé
There are only 2 teams I would like the Habs to meet in the first round, TB or Pitt. The likelihood of that happening are pretty slim.

So my hopes of a triumphant 7-2 run to close out the year and take the NE Division took a bit of a hit last night. No worries, just change one of the L’s to a W and the hoped-for Boston L last night means I’ll adjust one of theirs. It will be a tougher go of things now but anything is possible in Gary Bettman’s National Parity League.

Problem with the new site:
Discussions are hard to keep going since there are so many new threads starting all the time. For example, yesterday there were 6 different stories posted, with 6 different threads, all on the upcoming Buffalo game.
Also, it seems there is a limit on the number of replies.
Yeah, 5 replies per post is a little small.
Ya, only 5 replies per take, which is not good, the TSN thumbs up or thumbs down idea, which is primary and yes like you said the numerous threads all pointing to one topic basically. So lots of kinks to work out on the new site, hopefully the brains can fix these things. And one last one, like a gent said yesterday, why does the cursor start 3 lines down everytime you start a comment or a reply? Maddening I tell you!!!
I miss the “new” indication that helped to filter through the jumble of posts and let you know if you have seen a post before or not.
Hopefully they are listening to the feedback and doing what they can to improve the new site.
I suggested on another thread that they consider having selected articles stay on the main page for a few days. Either articles that are having lots of discussions or articles that are asking for feedback, like the one asking for opinions on fighting in hockey. Even if it is just some text links off to the side. This way as new articles that are less ‘commentable’ are posted they are not pushing the more engaging ones into obscurity so fast.
There is not a limit to the number of replies, there is a limit to the number of layers of replies. You do not need to drop down to a new layer ever time you want to reply to someone. Although ideally it is better to have more layers, it is possible to work around it.
Martin Brodeur says Carey Price has been the NHL’s best goalie this season.
“When I look at what Price has done in Montreal with injuries on defense this season, it’s really hard not se,” he said. “To win the Vezina trophy, you should be in the top 10 or top 5 in all categories of statistics and Price is everywhere.”
What Price has done this season in the most difficult place to play hockey, is amazing. Fans are so demanding they will boo a poor performance in an exhibition game.
Don Cherry always thinks he knows best and is always right. I hope he shows his first Coach’s Corner segment where he shows a clip of fans booing Price in the exhibition game and told everyone that the Canadiens made a big mistake and selected the wrong goalie and that they should have selecte Halak instead. He added that Price won’t be able to handle the pressure of playing in Montreal.
Don Cherry, Red Fisher and a majority of experts have been proven wrong by Carey Price.
The reason…. , like him, this team does not quit and they won’t now.
As the message below says….
“It’s too much for one guy to shoulder. For us, we’re going to do it as a group. It’s about sharing that responsibility win or lose.” – Mike Cammalleri
The odds on Cherry admitting he was wrong about Carey are about as likely as the odds of him demanding Chara be suspended were.
That coming from Brodeur, who was one of the best in the league, I say was because he is definately coming back to earth (except when he friggin’ plays the Habs lol.) speaks volumes, and Price can only get better.
Yup! Price reminds of Marty, with his usually good, bad bounces past few games, ability to handle the puck.
Price would be my first pick in net if I were an expansion team’s GM.
The way I remember it was that Cherry said it was a mistake to treat Halak the way he was treated after doing so much for the team the year before. You can argue whether or not Halak was mistreated or ‘dumped’ by being traded to St Louis but I don’t think you can argue with Cherries sentiments. Halak was the hero and fan favorite after his great playoff performance (Halak stop sign shirts anyone?) and Cherry was simply saying that it’s tough when teams take the fans darlings and get rid of them.
Now as for Price, at the time I do believe Cherry said it was the wrong choice to keep him (under the context of the above) but come spring training when Price got booed in pre season Cherry blasted the fans and called it a disgrace and said that Price would be fine. So if you want him to show the first clip then he better show that one too.
4-1 against the Prunes. Make it 5-1 boys!
@ observer, carrying on our convo below.
Ok, so you want other teams to know that say for example Gill has a huge bruise, the team says, “Gill has a huge bruise on his thigh, he won’t play tonight, but he will play tomorrow.” That’s an open invitation for another team to target the bruised area and make him even less effective. You want that kind of transparency in the league?
We need Darche back to plant himself in front of the net. Anyone who plays with Gomez is doomed. When’s the last time Gio score 5 on 5 on the Gomez line. Cammi’s not getting shots on goal. Maybe he should play with DD who seems to put the puck on people’s sticks.
Although Gio should’ve put that cross crease pass from gomer into the net ultimately changing the game and getting gomer off the slide he’s been on and gio as well, but it didn’t go in. Mind you the sabres had about 6 great scoring chances that they just missed the net on too, not even counting the ones Price made great saves on…..so in the end, if all things went according to plan, I saw the sabres coming out of this game at a score of 4-1, if they capitalized on their chances for easy tap ins.
do we not want to catch tampa, i think it is possible and try to avoid Boston. tampa has three games left against carolina
I’m going out on a limb here and predict the boys will/could finish from 3rd to fifth, sixth, seventh, eighth or even out of the dance. The last one, very unlikely. If the boys win tomorrow than 3rd spot is still up for grabs, if not then the battle for 5th through 8th will begin. I can’t see the boys dropping further down than 7th, but they could finish as high as 3rd. If they get my desired 6W’s, 1L and 1O.T./shootout loss out of the remaining 8 then 3rd place is more than feasible and if not 3rd spot than 5th. Or how bout we just wait for 2 weeks and see where the games bring them. That’s better, I’m confused!
That is an incredibly bold prediction.
My estimation is that it’ll be either 3rd or 6th, with an outside shot at 5th.
I’d say that the strongest possible message has to be sent to Chara and the rest of Beantown.
We’ve proven over and over that we can beat them at a hockey game, no questions there, so Boston decided to try the rough and tumble show last two games, with the attempted decapitation of Patches as their highlight.
The NHL did not act upon it. The NHL decided they wanted a goon show. They can have one.
I say give one day contracts to the following “players”:
– Steve Hanson
– Jeff Hanson
– Jack Hanson
– Tim “Dr. Hook” McCracken
– Clarence “Screaming Buffalo” Swamptown
– Andre “Poodle” Lussier
– Gilmore Tuttle
– Ogie Ogilthorpe
As a message to the Bruins, Chara and their fans, I would only want to quote Mr Tuttle: “We’ll straighten you out, you little pr*cks”. We’ll beat you in a hockey game and at your game, any time, any rink.
Or just callup Conboy from Hamilton.
He is currently suspended for 2 games. Conboy is not that great of a fighter or a hockey player. White is much more useful
Unknown at that moment was that the 22-year-old had suffered a non-displaced fracture of his C4 vertebra and a severe concussion
It baffles me that it seems every single injury in ONLY this league is always reported as a totally meaningless “upper or lower body injury” but this one was described as it was a day after?
Seems logical to say that the reason teams don’t disclose injuries is so when a player returns, they’re not always 100% healed up and other players won’t know where to target injured areas and knock out the player again.
The question was why was his injury described in detail if no others are? And why is this the ONLY sport who does it? NFL fines teams for not giving out the exact injury and severity. This only started under Bettman’s reign and just recently – this upper body garbage. Might as well say the player doesn’t feel well.
The NFL doesn’t usually field players till they’re 100% healed too. Like I said, they’re secretive so that way when a hockey player returns he isn’t targeted at the area that he’s hurt.
Everyone knows that Markov and Gorges has knee injuries.
Are you serious?
Now what do we do.? It is a pretty sure thing that we are matched up against the bean town boys in the play offs, so how do we approach tomorrow nights meaningless game against them.? Home ice was the only issue! Is it realistic to think we can catch them, ? slim, but I suppose there is a chance.
Do we just play the kids and rest Price and the older crowd ? Or do we put our heart and sole into this game and try to smoke them, to show a little pay back.? I wonder how Jacques is going to play this one out.
Personally I would love to beat them in their own barn, giving them lots to think about before we meet in the play offs. But at what cost to our troops. It has been a grueling season on bodies. Let the chess match begin.
So thumbs up for us bringing our A game!
And thumbs down to resting the older players and Price!
How do you vote ??
Re: “Pretty sure to play Boston in round 1″?
Lose tomorrow and Saturday and 7th or 8th is more probable.
I say rest Price and Boston beats us or we beat them I don’t think its an edge for either team. I don’t think its important where you finish providing your playing well going into the playoff. Where did the 93 habs finish in the standings. Even if habs get players back there will be a settling in period and one would think we would run out of time. Ian I don’t think we have a shot at it this year given the key injuries but I think we are on our way to being a strong contenter as early as next year.
The 93 Habs got lucky and avoided the toughest teams who all got eliminated. Finish 7th or 8th and they must face the one of the 2 superior teams in the east and Markov, Gorges, Pacoretty and who knows who else won’t be available. It will be a quick exit if Habs drop below where they are. Besides even if they don’t catch Boston they can move into 5th as Tampa Bay is very possible to catch.
I’m not dying to face Pittsburgh either though. Given their shakey playoff past and last year’s result, maybe the Habs would be best off dropping to 7th and facing the Caps?
Horton Lucic and Thornton will assuredly go after Pouliot and PK.
Thread about having an effective 4th line……It will never be effective when the coach is too afraid to use it and only give it what, about 4 minutes for the whole game. I hate when JM does that, and when he does go with 3 lines, the result is a loss. And when is Cammy going to wake up? He’s turning into gomers twin brother. I know gomer and cammy will turn their games around come playoff time, but the boys need another 5W’s out of the last 8 games, so it’s fair to say the playoffs have already begun. Wake up top players, making top wages……it’s time to show us all why you’re a hab and why you’re making all that coin….. And everyone won last night that was supposed to lose except for t-bay, the hockey ghosts got it wrong last night!
You are so right Jimmy, Martin never uses the kids, he plays Gionta, Gomez, and Camy to death.!
It’s ok. Put it behind you and out of your mind like any other game you lose and focus on the next game. The big one. Win it for Patches. Keep Chara from getting any points. Don’t spill anymore blood on the ice. Beat ‘em on the scoreboard.

Re: It’s ok. Put it behind you and out of your mind like any other game you lose and focus on the next game. The big one. Win it for Patches.
The rest is wishful thinking.
Half the team is playing with some sort of pain, give them a break!
It has been amazing how we have stayed in the hunt my friend, and some of the sideline injured are coming back before the end of the season. Then watch out.!
If they beat Boston in regulation time tomorrow they still may catch Boston. They may still catch Tampa Bay. But for both it means to keep winning games. They may also drop to 8th, Buffalo is only 6 points back with a game in hand and if Habs lose in Boston and then Washington they’ll also be right on Habs tail.
blew everyone -that is awesome. I think you meant blew every one.
I agree though I think the habs will end up in 7th. Cammy is strugging really bad but he is not the only one. Where is Gio been? We really miss Plek’s. Put things in perspective of how great of a deal we got plek’s for last year when you think Cammy makes 6 mill a season and can’t do anything without a star centre. Plek’s is offence, Defence and face offs. Great player all round.
DD has been the best point producer for the habs since the All star break. I really like that guy. The kids (including price) have really have saved this team this year.
White should never be sent back down. he is a perfect 3rd line guy who plays hard every shift. I thought Moen would have played with a bit more energy but I have been pretty dissapointed with him this season as well.
We need Plek’s and some of our D back ASAP. If we get them back before the playoffs we may win a round or two.
