Del Zotto Hearts Prust

Brandon Prust

Let’s take a much-needed break from the drudgery of collective bargaining talk and the possibility of a lockout. Let’s learn a bit more about one of the newest Canadiens, Brandon Prust.

A valuable, aggressive winger for the Rangers team that made a deep playoff run last season, Prust’s departure from New York was bemoaned by a number of Rangers fans. He was also considered a very good teammate and his signing a free agent contract with the Habs in July has at least one of his former Broadway Blueshirt teammates a bit dismayed.

That would be defenseman Michael Del Zotto.

The pair were good buddies in the Big Apple, and — like Carey Price and P.K. Subban — had a little handshake ritual at the end of games (done here with Dan Boyle).

and their ritual had some friendly variations:

And the two also hung out off the ice in the Big Apple. here with Steve Eminger…

…and here with Eminger and Marc Staal hard at work.

“He is a great player,” Del Zotto said recently on the interview with the Score, “but we became such close friends off the ice, and having a guy that you spend time with every day and having him go is tough.”

How close? Close enough for Del Zotto to admit to the Score he’s got a bromance going with Prust.

Check it out:

Prust is obviously a character guy as his bouts with Milan Lucic and Wayne Simmonds showed, taking on bigger guys and displaying lots of heart in doing so. He was clearly popular with the Rangers…

…and the Canadiens will now be the beneficiaries of that.
