Captain Kirk returns for optional day at the Bell

Updated with photos of Muller on Bell Centre ice

No. 11 is on the ice in a Canadiens jersey – and we’re not talking about Saku Koivu.

You know it’s an optional day when the guy under the No. 11 helmet in full equipment is Canadiens assistant coach Kirk Muller. That’s the number Muller wore with distinction from 1991-95, the last man to wear 11 before current captain Koivu.

There were 13 players on the ice, counting former Captain Kirk: goalies Cristobal Huet and Carey Price, and (in no particular order) Josh Gorges, Tom Kostopoulos, Mark Streit, Francis Bouillon, Andrei Kostitsyn, Garth Murray, Steve Bégin, Mikhail Grabovski, Tomas Plekanec and Kyle Chipchura.
