After four years of legal wrangling about the evaluation of the Bell Centre, the Canadiens have won their tax fight with the city of Montreal.
La Presse reports the team will get a $5.8 million rebate and see its annual municipal tax bill drop from $10 million to $8.5 million.
The decision slashes the city’s $225 million evaluation of the Bell Centre to $172 million. The arena’s 1996 construction cost was $240 million. The Canadiens had tried to argue that the correct evaluation is $60.5 million.
