Update: Hamrlik says no to Canadiens

The Gazette’s Pat Hickey thinks the Canadiens decision to offer a contract to Roman Hamrlik is a smart move because the veteran would serve as an excellent mentor to the likes of Alexei Yemelin and other young defenders.

And it would also allow Raphael Diaz and Brendon Nash to get lots of playing time in Hamilton for another season, and the Canadiens could use Yannick Weber as a fourth-line forward and power-play specialist.

La Presse reports, however, that Hamrlik is hesitant to accept the one-year contract he has been offered. On Wednesday morning, Hamrlik turned down the one-year contract offer from the Canadiens, RDS says.
