Bruins down Canadiens again

It was a different night and a new roster, but it was the same result for the Canadiens against the Boston Bruins.

Third-period goals by Tyler Seguin and Chris Clark gave the Bruins a 2-1 win over the Canadiens on Monday, 24 hours after a 7-3 Bruins win in Halifax.

The Canadiens had grabbed a 1-0 lead in the second period when Michael Cammalleri scored on Tuukka Rask with less than five minutes to play in the frame.

Carey Price played the whole game, making 30 stops on 32 shots.

Did I miss the season opener? It is still preseason right?

Chrisadiens and HabFan10912, one of the few father son tandems on HIO.

  2. JF says:

Gauthier says the signing of Chris Campoli is not an indication that Markov is more seriously injured than was thought or that the team is disappointed with the performance of Yemelin, Ðiaz, or others. No mention of Subban, however. Also, more cuts:

Jarred Tinordi to the OHL London Knights. Philippe Lefebvre, Alain Berger and Brock Trotter have been assigned to the Hamilton Bulldogs.

PS whats with the budaj hate on here hes played one game.
and u gotta admit there were some really nice chances in that last 5 mins to score on rask tonight, none of them went in of course but cammi looks good

  5. HardHabits says:

News Flash. This is Montreal. These are the Canadiens we are talking about. If the pre-season games didn’t matter they wouldn’t play them. They matter. This is obviously the organization’s way of assessing it’s roster and it’s prospects. It’s also an opportunity for the players to gel a bit and get into game shape.

DEANDALLEY has it right about one thing he said tonight and in fact Perry Pearn said the same thing on RDS. We will see something closer to the opening line-up in the next two games. They need to get some time preparing for the season as a unit with as many of the starting roster as possible for the next two and last pre-season games.

The games mean something. Just like the Team A, Team B and Team C training camp scrimmages meant something.

Here’s another thing. Any time two teams play against each other, regardless of the circumstances both sides play to win. That is what matters.

    • Seps says:

Yeah they do mean something, but as far as W/L are concerned they mean nothing, if your preseason team goes 8-0 it doesn’t mean you have the best prospects in the league, nor if you go 1-7, it doesn’t means you have the worst. The preseason is about analyzing individual players and seeing where they stand (skill/speed/size) wise.

    • FishOutOfWater says:

and just because we lost doesn’t mean we will continue losing

    • punkster says:

Your understanding of what preseason “obviously” is may differ slightly from the organization’s view. Of course we’ll see something closer to the opening line up soon though I wouldn’t count on a full starting roster appearing until the season opens in Toronto. Lots of time to let the kids audition for future roles and allow the vets to prepare.

      ***Subbang Baby!!!***

      • HardHabits says:

If the pre-season isn’t to assess the roster and the prospects and for the players to gel a bit and get into game shape, then what is it then? My understanding. Wow. Do I sense some sarcasm from you?

C’mon dude. Get creative a bit. And I don’t mean try and rhyme.

All I hear is the same repetitive and canned response after another or an endless diatribe on how being anything other than an indoctrinated cheerleader is worthy of mockery.

You don’t see me mocking you guys. Well not since I’ve immersed myself in Marshall Rosenberg and Sun Tzu.

        • Mr. Biter says:

Pre season is usually where you find out who can or cannot play with the big club. Who when camp started would have thought Gallagher would show so much and prehaps make the big team while some of the hyped ones should be shown houses in Hamilton. Where is the beef (Toughness)? We have cap room left and there are guys sitting around at home willing to play for $500,000- 750,000. Better pay than cleaning someone’s pool.

          Mr. Biter

  6. habpunk says:

why aren’t the habs ever a contender?

  7. TOEmastro says:

Quick! Everyone burn your Jerseys! we’re gonna suck all year if we only dress 1 line per game! (I really wish sarcasm had it’s own font)

    Olé, olé, olé oleé

    • joeybarrie says:

Are you implying that the 6 players who will actually see action this season were not enough to take on the 13 Bruins who will see action this year?????
Im really starting to worry our preseason is gonna mess up our regular season.
      Molson should start firing.

There may be other teams, but only ONE Club De Hockey…

  8. SmartDog says:

The loss is nothing. The Habs are still not icing a very strong team – or a group that is used to playing together.
    On the positive:
    – Price played pretty well… he’s getting near game form. Gorges and Spacek looked better – not great but better. (Gionta was invisible to me, but whatever.)
    – Some of the rookies seem to have found a better footing… Diaz looked better than he has, Bournival had some nice flashes, a coupla other guys.
    On the negative:
    – It’s hard to get away from this feeling that we’re going to have trouble scoring goals AGAIN this season. I know, I know.. but it just sucks to see the Habs have trouble scoring over and over.
    – Ya gotta wonder about the Campoli signing. We’ve gone from being stocked with too many D-men to being in need. What next? We’ll need a new back-up? Doh!

Listen to the Smart Dog. He knows his poop!

  9. LL says:

The first star is Brendan Shanahan. Finally a real message is being sent.

As much as I like Wiz, he should’ve counted to 10 before reacting.

I wonder which Bruin will get the first suspension?

  10. Muckbringer says:

like i said, lots of positives tonight,
    million dollar hockey puck?
    yes you can?
    please help me

  11. timothy13 says:

Another Habs’ L, mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm mmmm, when will it ever end? Okay I know two games left with their status of 1-5-0 and an opener against the mighty and maybe laughable Leafs but @ least the TO squad has got plenty of heart. Where is the heart, conviction, determination, grit, sweat, scorers, strong goaltending and players that can check and whatever else it takes to win a damn game. I don’t know if the worry will leave but the celebration is a long way off for this Habs squad of 2011/12. The season has not even opened yet I am reminded of last spring’s game seven loss and it is repeated with another horror show from the Habs nemesis, that is, last year’s Stanley Cup winners’ the Big Bad Boston Bruins and another crushing defeat! Enough!

  12. Neutral says:

I can imagine the comments around the end of December, when the team is somewhere around 5-7 spot in the eastern conference standings. oh my, the pain of it.

  13. hansolo says:

Does anyone have a link to the remaining free agents that are unsigned? Was Campoli the best available dfenceman left?

  14. Nina76 says:

Are they ever going to stop taking penalities all last year the same thing. Even if the game does not count………. the point is they cannot afford to take these stupid penalities. They played well to-nite & could have won this game……………It would have made them feel good.

  15. Chorske says:

Because it bears reposting: some perspective on preseason performance, vs NHL teams and not counting games in Europe.

    2010-2011 Boston Bruins went 1-4
2009-2010 Chicago Blackhawks went 2-3 (and then lost 2-1 to fecking ZURICH)(just sayin’)
    2008-2009 Pittsburgh Penguins went 3-1
2007-2008 Detroit Red Wings went 6-3
2006-2007 Anaheim Ducks went 1-3 (including a 7-1 loss to LA)

The point being that 3 of the past 5 Stanley Cup Champions had losing preseasons. And TheDagger reminded me that last years Calgary Flames won all their preseason games… and we know how THEIR season went.

    Relax. These games are meaningless.

  16. Psycho29 says:

Wisniewski gets 8 regular season games…..

  17. Sean Bonjovi says:

I missed the game. What does “Funeste” mean?

“Andrei Kostitsyn is a better hockey player than Max Pacioretty”
    – Sean Bonjovi

  18. DEANDALLEY says:

Meaningless yes, but the team needs to play with the complete roster from now on. Need a few games to come together.

It is all for nothing if we don’t win the Stanley Cup!

  19. JoeC says:

So the reason for Pre season is to get players back into the speed of the game, and to evaluate young talent, and start getting chemistry to work. Am I wrong to assume that? JM has 2 games with most of his team to get them to mesh. Maybe thats why JM does so much line juggling all year round, he doesnt use Preseason at all to help with that. Gallagar is great, but whats he doign playing on a line with Plecs and cams, no cole, no patchs??? Gomez and Gianta got a rookie too. IMHO just stupid. AND 2 NHL Defenceman per game, poor goalies

  20. punkster says:

Well now, let’s all join hands, get in a big circle and bitch and moan about losing a meaningless game. In pre season.

  25. JoeC says:

    Hey pot, meet kettle.

  34. Gerry H says:

Damn, I’d like to see that Gallagher kid tie this game.

  35. Muckbringer says:

It is all for nothing if we don’t win the Stanley Cup!

  41. Facking D. Cut all these AHLers for life now please. Have had enough of them.

  42. DEANDALLEY says:

    • Seps says:

I live in Kitchener and get to see him with the knights whenever they come to town and he is a solid player who’s not afraid to drop the gloves. But as far as this training camp goes, he doesn’t look out of place.

  49. DEANDALLEY says:

    • Chorske says:

      “little girl”
      Obsess much?

    • LA Loyalist says:

Former Commie country Europeans all wear turtle necks. That was the cool eastern block look in the 60’s when it was hip. Of course I’m talking about the intelligentsia, as they were called, the writers, journalists, culturati – no one that actually produce anything would wear one.

I’ve heard the real reason is that if you smoked those crappy Eastern bloc ciggies while wearing a tie you were very likely to inflame yourself 🙂

They are all stuck in the hippy era because their societies were in stasis. Watch the movie “The Lives of Others” about an east German spy in that period. It’s both good and damn fascinating.

Anyway, it’s rumored that Kafka and Rilke wore turtlenecks. Just hanging out at the cafe. The HIO of its time…

  57. C_exacte says:

  58. JIMVINNY says:

How is that not a penalty? I know it’s preseason, but Colon’s darling just ran Price right over.

  69. JIMVINNY says:

Why was that blown dead? It was seidenberg that drove Gallagher into rask. That shouldn’t have been stopped.

  70. Chuck says:

Gotta like the way that Gallagher fights his way to the front of the net. That’s a good sign.

  71. Man, Gallagher is so good for his age.

I hope he can crack the Habs roster next year. If not, he will in 2 years for sure.

  72. Pucknut says:

Gallagher looks like Rookie of the Year…next year.
