Pat Hickey reports from morning skate in Pittsburgh that Mike Cammalleri will play tonight against the Penguins.
Aaron Palushaj is a healthy scratch.
AUDIO: Mike Cammalleri | Hal Gill | Jacques Martin | Marc-André Fleury | Sidney Crosby | Brooks Orpik | Dan Bylsma I and II

I know a guy that’s just over five feet tall and really bad with the puck. We could send Gill, Moen and Cole to the minors and pay him $10 million!
Phantom call
I agree with most here about Gomer. We must ignore the 800 lb gorilla in the room that is his caphit. I’d take him off the PP, put him on the 4th line with Moen and Darche and let him play Pleky’s minutes on the PK. He’ll stay somewhat fresh, it’ll take pressure off his offensive performance and who knows, maybe he’ll even find some room out there with the 2 hungry bruisers on his wings at 5 on 5. At worst, they will be a formidable 4th line and tough to play against. I’d have put Enqvist in the pressbox, and tried Gio over with Cammy and Pleks (I know small… but fearless and fast!) Then I’d try Palushaj with Eller and Cole, leave DD with Patches and AK.
Bottom line, Gomer will stay fresher and hungrier, he’ll be less of a distraction and it allows us to see what the youngsters can do on the top 3 lines. We can then try to deal him or send him down to help raise the rest of the kidz.
Turn that lemon into lemonade
OOH AAH – HABS ON THE WARPATH!
I think JM should bench Gomer for a couple of games. In fact, this is something he should have done last year.
Plekanec was benched for three or four games two (three?) seasons ago. He came back refreshed, and immediately produced.
Gomer needs to eat a bit of humble pie while taking in some games in the press box.
_______________________________
Bench Gomer. It’ll (re)build character.
I think Gomez has shown something better this year than last year,
Don’t forget the Gomez has always been a set up guy and Gionta has had a poor start to the year. He has missed a number of open nets and/or high probabaility scoring chances. If he buries a couple of those and gomez has no goals but 3-4 assists I don’t thing this discussion is going on today.
I agree and disagree, I’ll admit Gionta hasn’t been that sharp to start the year, but if you watch Gomez for the most part, all last season and a good 50% of this season so far, he just doesn’t make smart decisions with the puck. The number of times he turns the puck over trying to force a pass, or passes to someone who is clearly covered and can’t do anything with it, also ending up in a turnover, is ridiculous! Not to mention his attempted rushes that he gets turned back on. There’s not being able to produce, and then there’s having a negative impact, and the majority of the time Gomez falls under both categories.
if he was paid to look better we would be doing ok. He is paid big bucks to produce offense which he isn’t doing sadly. If we got paid for effort Tommy Pyatt would be making a killing.
He has to start producing and quickly or I think the management will finally have to pull the plug on him.
The last game I saw him doing his blind passes on the powerplay again which made me puke in my mouth a little
Still have no idea why Gomez is still with Gionta….He played very well in pre-season, why not move him to another line? Don’t get it, those 2 on the same line has not worked since day one, time to change it up.
Just a few more comments….Eller, AK46, Patches – playing very well, Subban will wake up, Youngsters looking good, Gionta step it up. In respect to Dmen, are we missing Hamerlik? 50/50 on that, I think Mara should be brought back, tough, never made too many mistakes and would be a great replacement for Spacek, who I find useless.
Price, not too worried about him. But man, I wish they wouldn’t let opposing teams push him around. Take the 2 minutes and clock someone who pulls that.
Martin…well buh bye
Send Gomez to Hamilton
Cammalleri-plekanec-Cole
Pacioretty-Desharnais-Gionta
Moen-Eller-AK46
Darche-Engqvist-Palushaj(White will take his spot in 3 weeks)
This gives a good top 9 with a big body or 2 on each line ,White coming back will be great,We need to assemble a fourth line that is difficult to play against ,Blair Betts in place of Engqvist would be great!
Toronto Maple leaf fans and ignorance walk hand in hand in the land of stupidity
Time to make a decision on Gomez. If he does not start producing in the next 25 games he should be shopped. I realize noone will bite but that will be the pretext to sending him down to the Hammer. With the emergance of Eller and DD the Habs do not have any room for him. I do not believe he will do a good job on the fourth line either. It’s time for Molson to step up and do something for the good of the team, he sells enough overpriced beer, eat the $$ and send Gomez down. This will free up enough money to go after two decent free agents next year, or pickup someone at the trade deadline this year. It’s all about team building in the salary cap era, everyone understands this and will not hamper our ability to bring in free agents.
Great thoughts on Gomez,Enough is enough for me We should bit the bullet like the rangers did with Redden,Send him to the minors,He brings nothing to the table and DD is better and Eller is suited for center,Everytime i watch Ryan McDonaugh play for the rangers i want to punch Bob Gainey in the head.

So last time the Habs won a game Cammy played so hopefully that streak continues tonight.
The Scott Gomez line………..where wingers go to die.
nice tag line lol
A small side-track: Grantland writer Katie Baker offers a column with a different insight into the NHL. It’s not at Friedman’s level, but an interesting read nonetheless.
I especially liked the part on Craig Rivet.

For arguement sake:
Cammelleri – Desharnais – Cole
Darche – Engquist – Eller
Gionta – Gomez – kostitsyn
Moen – Plekanec – Pacioretty
(alphabetical order)
Molson Ex mon ami
I think we need to shake things up a little more than that:
Shutt-Lemaire-Lafleur
Napier-Larouche-Cournoyer
Lambert-Risebrough-Tremblay
Gainey-Jarvis-Mondou
Robinson-Savard
Lapointe-Langway
Engblom-Lupien
Chartraw
Dryden
Swap Lafleur for Laraque and I’m in
Are these the actual line combos for tonight??
Toronto Maple leaf fans and ignorance walk hand in hand in the land of stupidity
Again, called shot: Gomez bumps the slump tonight.
I understand that in the fine tradition of helping a friend break out of a funk, Habinburlington took it upon himself to hook up with a large lass, so Gomez is a lock tonight.
Let the Scoregasms and “I told you so” comments from the Gomophiles flow freely.
I’m down with your called shot.
Hope it hits the mark!

Huh? I did what?
It’s OK. Your motives were pure.
Explains the itch, and the funny looks I got from my wife this morning.
What about these lines:
“For I have known them all already, known them all:
Have known the evenings, mornings, afternoons,
I have measured out my life with coffee spoons;
I know the voices dying with a dying fall
Beneath the music from a farther room.
So how should I presume?”
Comments?

TS Eliot on here???
Oh Matty, Matty, Matty
Let us go then you and I…and I’ll explain a few things
Will you explain why Gomez is like a patient etherized upon a table?

Where is Ozymandius when you need him?
Lars Eller: 6″2 and about 205 pounds, gritty (remember boston series) good vision and what looks like as good a shot as any of other centers.
We’ve been hoping for a big talented, 1st/2nd line center for many years, and now he’s playing wing?
The whole thing seems to be a bit of a mess right now, between injuries and inconsistent efforts from players it’s a bit of a scramble line wise. Can’t say I’m too optimistic about the whole thing, if tonight goes poorly than I think it’s time to start worrying. START, not panic, but at least acknowledge that something might need changing.
We’ve been hoping for a lot of things for this club of ours for over 18 years.
The song remains the same for 18 years.
“We will win the Cup one day only with ? in the nets “
@g-man
You bench AK?
Here’s my lines for tonight
Max-DD-AK46
Eller-Pleks-Cole
Cammi-Gomez-Gionta
Moen-Enqvist-Darche.
Also I have a question…
Does anyone know how long GB’s contract is in Tampa? After another good year or two he might be ripe for poaching, the way Detroit got Babcock.
Montreal should never have a rookie coach IMHO.
Where did he say that?
He’s got him on the same line as you and everybody else. Me included.
I don’t deny the talent on the smurf line, but they’re gonna get the smurf SMURFED out of them.
Leafs/Bruins tonight — who the hell do you pull for in that one?
Injuries…lots of them….oh yeah, suspensions, too.
LMAO
Yeah! Go refs go!
If you don’t grok it, drokk it!
hahahaaha! Good call. Refs it is!
Bruins. Leafs need to be taken down a few pegs
Beat each other in a penalty filled game. Who cares!!!
I hope it’s one of these
I have the same dilemna. Which is the lesser of 2 evils. Was brought up to hate the Leafs, grew up to hate the Bruins. Don’t want my Leafs relatives to be able to brag about a 5-0-1 start, would rather see them at 4-3-1 after Saturday night. Would love to see Bruins atart 2-5-0 while we move to 2-3-1 ahead of them after tonight. The only thing I know for sure is I don’t want to see a 3 point game
“They don’t hang Conference Championship Banners from the rafters here”

I dont see things looking up, the D is just awful and its this way because of some bizarre infatuation with a russian defenseman who has yet to deliver his worth after x years. Seriously, Philly has the balls to unload players like Mike Richards and Carter while Montreal latches onto damaged goods like its %$%&*^% Bobby Orr.
[Disclaimer]: I’m a hockey fan. I care about the habs, but probably not as much as you.
You probably felt Koivu was damaged goods too and good riddance.
Markov had to be AllStar material not to get critiqued.
And the reoccurring injury was as much a lapse of judgement from our medical staff as his fault. ie rushed
I’m all for getting attached to player’s and liking them beyond the product they bring to the ice. But I find a lot of people forget that this is a JOB for players coaches and management. I find people in all 3 of those categories are given far to much lenience, if you aren’t performing the job that’s expected of you, you get fired thats the way the world works. However the sports world, and I find it even more truthful to the Habs in particular, doesn’t seem to operate the same way. Just my 2 cents, but that’s what always frustrates me the most.
Not really, Koivu was healthy and still got the boot
When you look at what is available out there and who decides to come to Montreal, I mean look at how Gomez managed to attract the injured players so far: Campoli, and who else? You have a good point that we are wasting our time waiting for Markov, but then he is worth the wait after he has had a healthy year and a chance to become part of the team. The other choices are not as great for Montreal’s style of hockey, which demands players be under 6 feet 1 inch and weigh less than 200 pounds so they can skate fast. So far this Gainey theory of having “Crazy Bob’s Hockey Emporium for washed up veterans and injured has beens and for rookies who are too small team” and his experiment to see whether a group of tiny hockey players can fill a hockey arena, seems to be panning out for the Molsons like the habs were still a seat seller for Gilette. Why should the new owners care if the habs win or lose?
Thought the D played well against Buffalo, with the exception of a rare lapse by Gorges.
As for Markov…let’s renew that discussion when he’s back in November
The buffalo game showed us dominating, in OT we had something like 80% puck possession, Miller had a hot game, happens.
If Hasek can rob a powerhouse Canada team, it can happen for Miller to steal a few games.
What game were you watching?! OT???
And Miller’s been stealing games for Buffalo since 2008.
“Only a goalie can appreciate what a goalie goes through.” – Jacques Plante
Personally I don’t think they should dress Cammy tonight. I’d like to see if they can get the win without one of their scorers. Good practice for future injury call ups and such.
***Subbang Baby!!!***
Yeah, he does feel rushed, and we’re playing a depleted Penguin team.
It would show more confidence to not rush him back…
They did say 10 to 14 days…its been 11. It’s just a cut, I’m sure hes fine.
And Markov just had minor knee injury and look at how we’ve suffered as a result. Cammy has a good point, we need to invest in outer hockey stockings to protect our washed up veterans. It’s kind of like watching the Buffalo Air of hockey teams, where you have old aging veterans falling apart while a bunch of young rookies learn how to work with this aging infrastructure of a team, the habs where old washed up veterans, and spare parts for them are hard to find, so we build a medical clinic to support the team….Bob Gainey, the Joe McBryan of GM’s……hey Bob, there is a world war 2 era hockey vet in the KHL who is just itching to be signed by you, he is less than 6 feet tall and weighs less than 200 pounds!
Who comes up with the Poll questions? Seriously, how about being supportive and NOT trolling the team 5 games in.
+1
Attaboy! Give it to ‘em!
AK46 – DD – MaxPac
Cammy – Pleks – Eller
Gionta – Gomez – Cole
Moen – Palushaj/Enqvist – Darche
Otherwise JM is insane.
Palushaj already tabbed as up in the press box.

What about these lines?
AK46 – Deharnais – Pacioretty
Subban – Gorges
Eller – Plekanec – Cammalleri
Gill – Weber
Cole – Gomez – Gionta
Diaz – Yemelin
Moen – Engqvist – Darche
Price
Eller was the best player on the 1st line, i say he deserves a shot at centering, Max Pac and AK, then we can put an end to Eller vs DD, and my money is on eller, all in, double down, car keys on the line.
If he was the best player on the 1st line, and he played the wing, why does he have to be a centerman? DD is VERY good too. No need to choose.
True but do we want to lose our only available 6″2 center in the system (with actual talent) ?
Pacioretty and Deharnais did very well playing together in Hamilton last season. That’s when Pacioretty started to fill the net. Andre Kostitsyn gives that line another big winger who can thread a neddle on a dime when passing the puck. They showed that skill the other night and Buffalo had a very hard time to match their speed. Cole could be the answer for Gomez and Gionta and call it the USA line. Anything is worth a try and maybe all lines could make Marc Andre Fleury look sick. Habs will come out flying again tonight. Going to miss the game as a result of work. Go Habs Go!!!!

I would not joggle AK when he’s on a point streak, just common sense, last time they tried to use him to jumpstart Gomer it did jack shit for everyone involved.
Perhaps you didn’t notice the sweet passes he gave to max…
Unfortuntely both Gomez and Gionta are in a slump and they need to get out THEMSELVS.
We dont ruin 2 good lines to try to have 3 soso lines.
Cammy superPlexxx Cole’train (anyone play gears of war?)
MaxPac Eller AK
The rest JM can figure out.
I really wish diaz and webber would put on 20 pounds of muscle so they wouldnt get pushed around. Otherwise theyre doing great.
Ok guys I’m coming clean. I haven’t yet put on any of my jerseys. I’m the reason the team stinks.
So maybe I’ll wear my cammy jersey and see what happens tonight.
No, It’s because I traded for Price to be on my Fantasy team.
Habs have 6 new guys in lineup, thats 30%, so you can’t expect them to gel instantly.
And yet they already gave us two amazing games, so im satisfied. And JM actually said something that made sense, we played well, we have nothing to feel bad for. Good for him.
PS as many will remember this is a guy i dislike, so at this point i like pretty much everyone on the team!
I thought it was because I used my last fantasy pick on Gomez believing all that was written and said about a bounce back season. It’s my own pure stupidity ha!
Cheers
I have six Habs on my fantasy team… and would you believe, I dumped Corvo for MAB!
Can’t find takers for Phaneuf tho…
I’ll admit, I could have Kessel right now on my F team, and still I’d trade him.
“Only a goalie can appreciate what a goalie goes through.” – Jacques Plante
With Cammy we will win. Isn’t this always the case. Everytime we lose Cammy we start slumping, Our PP suffers. Expect a different outcome tonight!
Am I the only one who thinks that, despite not having scored, Gomez has been playing much better this year?
Lol i swear you are not i feel the same way yes he hasn’t been getting points but he seems to beplaying better it’s too early in the season to hate on him and the stats. We need to focus on who is playing well and evem if its not on the score sheets as points Gomez is doing well.
I also want to add yes he is making way to much money but so iis every other freaking hockey player they are making so much money when they shouldnt be
i think hes playing decent but have been too scared to say anything on this site. he is finally shooting!!!! no one tried to check gomez last year cause they knew he was never going to shoot
Lol i agree with you i was to afraid to admit anything with fear of getting my head ripped off thats why i waited XD
Pretty sad when you think about it. This should be a place where all opinions are welcome…HAHA what am I saying??!
The effort is there, the talent however is not. I actually like Gomez the person I just hate that we’re paying a 3rd liner top 6 money.
I wouldn’t say as much talent as size.
He’s definitely skating and shooting more, but I find he’s easily bumped off the puck this year.
Maybe I didn’t notice it as much last year because he was so invisible.
If he was earning $3 – 3.5 Million this year, everybody would be happy.
No I firmly believe he’s just not that good. Unfortunately due to his contract he NEEDS to be the #2 center. If he were on the third permanently we wouldn’t have any complaints.
His money could have been used to fill out the top 6 some more
Woulda, coulda, shoulda ain’t gonna help us now.
But at the end of the day though, first line people got to produce. And I like Gomez too.
[Disclaimer]: I’m a hockey fan. I care about the habs, but probably not as much as you.
WOW, we must be watching different games as I find he stinks and I am scraed everytime he steps on the ice as I know he is going to have brain cramps and screw up !! Other than driving to the net and having a D-man slightly trip him, he is still hanging on the outside, skates by the net instead of stopping and digging for the rebound and finally he still has that stupid stutter step to get going almost hopping like a rabbit !!
Regardless, we are stuck with him, for now, and let’s hope for the best !
On a better note, Pacioretty has been a beast so far this year!
paolo merenda
Sometimes I think he has it figured out and he’s coming around but then he takes the puck the full length of the ice going 100km/h and then either dumps its to no one in the corner or he skates into the corner and loses it on his own.
Cheers
Gomez has been a lot better than last year (which isnt too hard) but Gionta has been invisible.
my lines if it mattered.

It’s fantastic news Cammy is one of my favorite players i am glad to have him back
I really hope Plek Cammy and Cole become a dominant line i like Cole a lot and i sure hope he’ll do well this season
Good news. Even better with a victory. Go Habs!
if Cammy is back this would be my lineup for tonights game
Cammy – Pleks – Cole
Moen – Eller – Gionta
Max-Pac – DD – AK
Darche – Gomez – EngQvist
why is eller on your second line?
I’m guessing to have Gomez on the fourth, and to not break up MAxPAc/AK/DD .
If you don’t grok it, drokk it!
well as far as i’m concerned eller is not a second line player. there seems to be a lot of love for the kid. he’s young and might develop into a solid player but i just don’t think he’s there yet at the nhl level. i think it would be really good for him to develop into a 1st 2nd line player in hamilton; however i know a bunch of people around here are going to say he’s too good for the ahl…
That could help him out, but really with the lack of capable centers the Habs have, I don’t see him in the AHL at all, unless some major trades are made. He’ll just have to learn wherever JM fancies to put him.
If you don’t grok it, drokk it!
Am I really the only one that doesn’t see any meaning in hierarchically numbering lines?
If our “3rd line” plays more than our “1st line”, doesn’t that make it our new ’1st line’?
And why do we HAVE to keep lines together, rather than mixing it up when the situation demands it?
Isn’t flexibility the key to any kind of victory?
Bend rather than break kind of thing?
—Hope Springs Eternal—
I guess it’s mostly a coaching thing, that got passed down to the fans.
If you don’t grok it, drokk it!
Agreed with Mattyleg. When the top 3 lines are balanced like this, you shouldn’t put too much weight in the line #.
Kinda reminds me of Spinaltap.
“These go to eleven.”
Not sure I agree with the term balanced, that would entail that they’re all posing a scoring threat and being responsible defensively. I also don’t see the harm in playing Eller with Gionta and Moen, I’ll agree he probably doesn’t have what it takes to play “2nd line minutes” but that really only holds true on a team that has anyone capable, he’s better defensively than Gomez and at least puts in more effort, and god knows he can’t be any worse in the offensive zone.
He was far from an AHL player in the Boston series last spring. He was given a lot of critical defensive assignments and performed them well above expectations.
“They don’t hang Conference Championship Banners from the rafters here”

Eller has already had many games where he was our best player, if you only look at G and A, that’s your problem.
If you think Gomez is going to be on the 4th line, your smoking better stuff than me.
Its going to be Moen demoted to the 4th line not Gomez haha Eller will proably be put on the wing.
I like! Might tweak a bit:
Moen Darche
Engqvist Palushaj
youd put moen on the second line, and max on the third??
all hail st.patrick
I like the idea of Gomez being on the fourth line.
I’d prefer seeing him on the fifth line up at Greyhound station boarding the Hamilton Express.

“Hey Richard, two minutes for looking so good!”
Really good news, It’s going to even things out. I’m happy as long as Moen isn’t one a scoring line anymore, JM could try Eller with Gomez and Gionta. I know, I know it sounds like a punishment
awesome news! Go Cammy go, go Habs go!
He should be captain. An inspirational leader and natural hot hands goalscorer. I knew he’d be back early.
TOTALLY agree! Should be the face of the franchise… still young, lotsa years left.
Cammalleri is back! Let’s hope Martin puts together Cole, Cammalleri and Plekanec together. Cole will be on fire. This team is ready to take off!

I’m old enough to remember him playing for Saint Louis.
By then, he had slowed dramatically, but still managed to split the schedule.
But imagine? 502 consecutive games? That record will never be touched. Good for him!
