Calgary is getting colder

CALGARY – The lovely plus-3C forecasts we heard earlier in the week have turned south, as forecasts often do in this lovely town.

They’re now saying we’ll be looking at minus-9C for the Heritage Classic, but refresh this page and that might have changed. The game goes on, rain or shine.

The NHL’s headquarters hotel for the game is swarming with league types and others. Outdoor bellmen (“You keep up this good work and I’ll see that you become a bellman,” Peter Sellers told the bellboy in The Return of the Pink Panther) are alternating Canadiens tuques with Flames tuques, and there is enough corporate signage to make a marketer a very happy person.

Updates to come from this afternoon’s Canadiens’ practice at the Saddledome; headed there shortly, with the team scheduled to skate at 2:45 pm MST. I’ll likely be updating more frequently on Twitter, so follow me there live, if you wish. You’ll find me here.

Hopefully we go on a tear just like Anaheim.

I’ve seen people give you crap about being a ducks fan too. I’m a Habs fan first, and a duck/lightning second

Ducks Montreal final would be awesome

most people didn’t have them making the play offs

If hiring people who had no experience coaching NHL teams appeased the hockey gods, explain what happened between 1995 and 2009 behind the bench. Oh right, Gong Show. Same with management from 79-83 and 95-2003.

    - I shall always remember Captain Koivu. Habs and Hockey.

They weren’t defending me, but were attacking you because of you. You are very immature, not open to conversation at all, or differing opinions. Don’t add anything to the debate and just spew juvenile hostility to those who are interested in sharing ideas. Hmmm, and you wonder why people attack you.

kings are 8 games completed of that 10 game trip.

    they are 5-0 – 3; 13 out of a possible 16 points.

    amazing!!

Habs hockey is “smart” hockey – we play 5 man defence, not just 2 – we move up the ice as a 5 man unit, we back check with 5.

What about the fans who wanted Pleks ran out of town after an off season and are now kissing his rear end.

Sometimes players have bad years, some patience is required for every player from time to time.

SO FAR this season, you mean.

75 and sunny here in DC.

There may be other teams, but only ONE Club De Hockey…

What’s wrong with that? I may be wrong, or maybe my sense of the situation is skewed, because I’m basing my view of Anglophones on maybe a dozen posters on here, with you being one of them, which I’m sure most Anglophones would absolutely hate lol. But really, in a very generalised way, I do feel the Anglos are a lot more biased and a lot more reluctant to view things objectively. And this is coming from an Anglophone.

How about Frank “The Animal” Biswas?

Never seen him play but what a nickname!

Getzlaf was out about a month with a broken face, so if no fracture minimum a week. It looks pretty nasty but all depends on exact angle of hit.

The guy’s a complete moron, when I ponited that out a little while ago his little minions started attacking me.

  16. _Habsoloutly_ says:

Only the truly delusional haven’t realized that Gomez has been a complete bust this season.  The only hope left for him is if he has an amazing playoff run.

  17. Kooch7800 says:

If there is one thing we have learned from PG.  You will never know what he is up to until it happens.  Don’t get wrapped up in rumours.

PG is good at keeping things on the downlow

  18. joeybarrie says:

Reports on the Penguins website is Gionta for Michael Rupp and a 5th round draft choice………..

And of course if Ray Shero doesn’t get this done he should be fired……

Do people realize that players who can score 30 goals a season for 3 million dollars DONT GET TRADED…. It’s like people think we can trade in Picard for Forsberg 10 years ago…. What would you do if PG traded Gionta for Rupp??? So why do people think that PG can get that deal out of anothe GM???

There may be other teams, but only ONE Club De Hockey…

SAME S*** DIFFERENT YEAR!!, Bruins make moves to make there team better,  while we sit back and look at it all, god for bid the Habs organization does the same.

  20. observer says:

it is an ongoing process and you use each of the various ways, maybe not every year every process, but almost every year. free agency, trades in summer, trades during the season especi9ally if early in tyhe season you lose a giant part and have salary cap room, and then up to the trade deadline. ga9iney/gauthier have been a failure here at about all this processes. mediocrity and going on 18 years just like when leafs once reached 18 years since their last cup. and they are still counting – open your eyes – we were also laughing at them when the had gone 17 years without winning the cup. look in the mirror. gauthier aint leadi9ng this team to any title. doesnt take a genius to realize this after watching him lose everywhere for years.

  21. ZepFan2 says:

And how many cups have they won in all those years (answer below)?

-9??  I’m in Calgary folks, it might get to -9 for a bit around 1 or 2, but from 4-7 it will feel more like -20.  Dress for it!!! I will be!!!
