Bruins’ Hunwick has spleen removed

Matt Hunwick Likely done for series

Bruins defenceman Matt Hunwick was rushed to hospital this morning after complaining of pains, and later in the day had his spleen removed. The Bruins were to hold a 7 pm news conference to discuss the matter.

"We won’t know anything until later," coach Claude Julien said this morning. "He was feeling alright when he arrived here for our team meeting this morning. Then he said he didn’t feel well, our training staff looked at him and they decided the best thing to do would be to send him to the hospital."

Two fire rescue trucks from the suburban Wilmington, Mass., fire department arrived at the team’s training facility. Hunwick was transported on a gurney to one of the trucks and it left with two police cars providing an escort.

"I’m not a doctor; we’ll just have to wait to see what they say at the hospital," Julien said. "He definitely won’t be in the lineup tonight but that’s all I can tell you."

Shane Hnidy will replace Hunwick in the lineup for tonight’s Game 2 against the Canadiens.
