Bolts coach Tortorella sings Vinny’s praises

Tampa Bay Lightning’s Vincent Lecavalier "is the best player in the league," his coach, John Tortorella, said before Monday’s 6-1 loss to the Toronto Maple Leafs. "I don’t care what anybody else talks about. And I say that, and I’m not trying to be disrespectful to anybody else.

"I just see that as a coach, I can put him in any situation and feel comfortable – offensively and defensively. And how’s he handled himself in the room and matured there – I just think puts him above and beyond."

  1. Kevin says:

    Definetely agree with Tortorella here

  2. ebk says:

People are only calling out Carbo to push him and motivate him like he is doing with the players. One day he will thank the minions for pushing him to become the best coach in the NHL.

  3. The Teacher says:

(Sung along to the tune of, Row, Row, Row Your Boat)

    Slow, Slow, Slow your toast
    Vinny’s but a dream.
    Scarily, Scarily, Scarily, Scarily,
    He’s on the other team.

  4. The Teacher says:

Wow, a reasonable post about Carbonneau!

  5. mjames says:

Who installed the passive forecheck and trap? Do you think that works against puck possession teams? Carbo’s trap results in 30 plus shots while the Devils is usally in the 20’s. Are you saying this is all the players’ fault? In terms of replacement coach I will give you a name – Denis Savard and this guy even speaks french.

  6. kevin m says:

I think that the Habs should be playing all of their home games, between December & February, on outdoor rinks.

At least we would be assured of a 100% skating effort. Albeit, an effort to stay warm.

    Just a thought.

  7. RetroMikey says:

John Tortorella tells it like it is. Many occasions he has blasted his players in the media and what have they done? They’ve stepped it up and Vinny for one has to thank his coach for pushing him and motivating him to become one of the elite players in the NHL. Sound familiar with Guy Carbonneau here in Montreal? You bet! But most of the fans are bashing our coach unfairly on this site and the “veteran” players (they know who they are) have not stepped it up. I’m happy with Guy as our coach, I can’t think of anyone who would come in and replace him, it’s the players that have to step it up big time! Never hurt Toronto with all the shake ups going on there with the media. The players have to hustle and play hard every shift as a whole, this is the major flaw in my opinion, not Guy!

  8. Ibleedbleublancetrouge. says:

ummm, even if we did sign Souray, you would still be missing him since he’s only played like 3 games this season? What Hamrlik lacks in leadership, he’s more than made up in plus/minus.

  9. Ibleedbleublancetrouge. says:

If there is one player in the NHL that would fit better than Vincent in MTL, I’d like to know who. I disagree with the notion that one player cannot make a difference on a team. Think about the weight off of Koivu’s shoulders, the insipiration it would put into him, the fact that it would actually make the Canadiens feel like they have a legitimate chance at hoisting the cup. I could go on forever. The “system” (whatever the hell that is) would have to change (or the creator of such a “system”) but please, Lecavalier in Montreal would silence every french critic from here to Marseille. He is the 7 missing pieces the habs need in one package and Gainey knows that.

The single biggest problem is we may never get him. Tampa will do whatever they possibly can to keep him, and if they don’t sign him, 28 others GM will throw 10 million a year at him, one team won’t… Montreal.

  10. habs03 says:

To me trading for Lecavalier now, simple wont do us any good, ya maybe we’ll make the playoffs and be the 7th or 8th seed but we’ll go no where, and for wat we would have to give to get Lecavalier i personal dont think its worth it. But i do think its worth it to sign him the second his a UFA, and just offer him the maxium or close to it at 20% of the Cap, by then i trully believe we will have a team that not only well have a superstar that it needs but alot of good players in the prime, Plekanec, the Kostitsyns, higgy, kommy, price etc. And than well have a team that has a good chance to win the cup year in and year not.

  11. Ibleedbleublancetrouge. says:

Actually, Jay Feaster has been quoted as saying that if his team continues to stumble through Christmas he will have to unload some of his payroll and namely Richards or St. Louis (if he should agree). He has very little intention of moving LeCavalier.

  12. TommyB says:

I think St.Louis has a no trade clause….not sure about Richards. I think if St.Louis did not have that no trade clause he would have been traded by now.

I watched the Bolts/Leafs last night…wow, does Tampa Bay need goaltending.

  13. Mike says:

Can we get avery? i would love to see him play for the habs.

  14. Wops says:

Vinny, Vinny, Vinny ! See you in two years… maybe! (wishful thinking)
    CH is for Chris Higgins

  15. ccs says:

I know that we all would like a superstar power forward but before we try to land that type of player lets get some toughness in the line up first. If we had a Nilan type player that would be amazing. Who do we have that scares the opposition??? I am starting to miss Souray big time. I know that he had his problems ( Crappy defensive play ) but he was a player that gave his all for this team and his teamates. I guess it dosn’t mean anything to wear the CH anymore, what a shame….

  16. AdamG says:

whatever spare defenseman we can find

  17. Mike says:

vinny is not coming to mtl, get over it, why would he want to? who would he play with?

  18. AdamG says:

i just love how stupid Jay Feaster is. his team has sucked rocks since the lockout. he has no depth, no goaltending and no defense. but he refuses to trade St. Louis or Richards, no matter how bad that team gets.

  19. arcosenate says:

i have been looking at the san jose mercury news, the fans there seem to want to get rid of patrick marleau pretty badly. i wonder if he would help us at all, or is he too soft? anyway, a shakeup might be on the way, but it ain’t gonna involve lecavalier!!!!!!!!!

  20. Corio says:

He’ll probably score 4 goals tonight..

  21. Ian Cobb says:

Hi Dave Stubbs, Only on your page do i only get the top of each picture, about half in. I just don’t know why. I have the top of line computer and a rookie opperator, so i’m sure it must be at my end. Does anyone else have this prob. Every other picture from other sites etc. comes to me in full???

  22. Ibleedbleublancetrouge. says:

I’m having the same problem Ian.

  23. joe-hab-nuno says:

i have the same problem too Ian. But when i use the firefox browser it shows everything. Only explorer i get half.

  24. TommyB says:

Hi Ian…how are you doing these days?

I get the same thing as you when I use my wife’s brand new computer with Windows Vista, but when I use my own computer with Windows XP everything is fine. So, trust me Ian, it’s not computer operator…it’s the software.

  25. J.T. says:

Yet some people think a trade of Ryder, Halak, Bouillon and a first is enough to land Lecavalier. In my dreams this is true. Oh, to dream. What a team the Habs would be then…

  26. Corio says:

One player will not turn the club around, it has to be a team effort!

  27. Ibleedbleublancetrouge. says:

I hear St-Louis and Richards might be on the market though…

  28. Edwardo says:

I know, it is ridiculous. You would have to throw the Bell Centre in that deal to have any chance.

  29. Rocket Richard says:

Their has been so much talk of the Habs lately. Through the media through the streets, through the radio, tc, etc,…clearly this team is struggling seems to me the main message.

I don’t know what will happen tonight, but the habs have just dropped to 3rd in their division and the Leafs are knocking on their door.

Its seems the same thing happens every year. hey start outgreat then they slump,…out of the playof picture.

No one man can change this situation. Its starts from on top and I don’t me management. The brain, the mind, mindset of the Habs players and executives in the front office. \Do they really want to win? Do they believe they can win? Where is the CH pride? Where is the desire to win? Are they spoiled by the million dollar lucrative contracts? Is money their driving force?

At about this time, I am certainly convince that change for the habs won’t happen unless they change some mentality and attitudes.

Look for Vinny to pair a couple of goals tonight, look for a lighting win. They lost last night and they will be looking to get revenge in Montreal.

The Lightning will NOT trade Vincent Lecavalier to MTL for Ryder, Halak, Bouillon and a 1st rounder! What makes anyone thinks TB wants another team’s castoffs for their superstar??? Give your head a shake!
If THERE is a Lecavalier deal, you can be sure the likes of Komisarek, Higgins, Kostitsyn and Price would be headed to TB, let’s be real here.
No, Vinny’s coming to MTL but only as a UFA and that’s if we can pony up the scratch for him. Nice dream though.

  31. Mike says:

If saku and kovalev can’t suck it up and play together even if they might not like each toher. then one or both have o leave. they are killnig this team. i love them both but if they cant put their differeces aside for the better of the team. then we have a problem

Michael Ryder – Saku Koivu – Alex Kovalev
Andrei Kostitsyn – Tomas Plekanec – Christopher Higgins
Guillaume Latendresse – Kyle Chipchura – Mathieu Dandenault
Mark Streit (if we can’t have anyone else) – Maxim Lapierre – Tom Kostopoulos

    Andrei Markov – Mike Komisarek
    Roman Hamrlik – Ryan O’Byrne
    Francis Bouillon – Patrice Brisebois

  32. Mike says:

i was thinking, why not try boillion at forwards 😉

  33. mrstewart61 says:

How do you know they don’t like each other? And it’s not their decision who they play with, it’s the coach’s.

  34. joel says:

without Lecavalier these 2 guys are nothing,, Vinny is carrying the team

  35. Oprah says:

    Try him in Hamilton, maybe?

  36. Mike says:

rumour inside the league says that they refuse to play together.

  37. Rocket Richard says:

Vinny will never come to Montreal. You can forget about this folks.
Listening to the team990 yesterday, Vinny is a quiet low key individuel. The media here in Quebec will take him out of his comfort zone. Expect TB to re-sign him. And even if he does come to montreal, who will he play with and will he make a difference with the coaching style of the Habs.

  38. vic says:

I really think there is too much pressure on Price and this kid will lose his confidence .In games when I see the team backing in and letting the other team have a skating party and then the coach saying the goaltending is not n.h.l is b.s.The system is not n h l and when the genius realizes this it will probably be too late. Why do offencive players not forecheck , Its not their game to sit back and I can see them sag when this starts.
I have been a fan since the forties and this lack pride kills me.

  39. saku11 says:

Edmonton traded Gretzky. Considering Tampa’s weaknesses and pressure to cut salary, Feaster would probably ask for Price, Higgins, Komi, etc. And we would have to take on Marc Denis’s salary. I don’t know if I would do it. One player can’t make a team win on a consistent basis, this isn’t basketball. If Vinny wants to play here, he’ll sign with us in 09.

Despite our recent skid, I believe that Gainey is building a contender. By 2009, we’ll have all the pieces in place, and Montreal will look like an attractive place to play for Vinny. Price will be an excellent goalie, our D-line will be among the best, we’ll have all the supporting cast on forward, we’ll just need the top line superstar. Some people seem to have written off A. Kostitsyn a little early, considering it’s his first full season with the team. Look at Datsyuk and Zetterberg, they took quite some time before they became elite players. This year, Kostitsyn has shown flashes off what he’s capable off, he just needs to become more consistent.

  40. Rocket Richard says:

i am just commenting from a tsn commentator who spoke to melnick yesderday on the team990 that vinnie won’t want to come here because of the media circus here in montreal.
