Auld to get first home start

Alex Auld will start in goal tonight. It will be his first appearance this season at the Bell Centre.

  1. Muckbringer says:

ive never been to le belle centre (been to the forum)  do they give anything out ever?

  2. Muckbringer says:

why, did he steal a log?

  3. HNS says:

…….and Plenty of time for the Booins to choke. They’re so good at it.

  4. deuce6 says:

As much as it chokes to say this, but BOS winning helps…It buries the Canes deeper…We have plenty of time to catch the Bruins..We are in the same division, so we play them a lot more frequently..

Yes, I’m a Hab fan..Wanna fight about it?

  5. jennifer1984 says:

    7-0…..oh buddy

  6. jennifer1984 says:

not just pizza but BEER too!!

    also 7-0 now… wth!??!

  7. Mark C says:

Let’s hope so, finishing 3rd would really help as far as playoff match ups go.

  8. Mark C says:

For the love of free pizza! Go habs go! I used to have a bet with my friend (big B’s fan) based on which team had the best head-to-head record. I wonder why we don’t do that bet anymore…

  9. Hagar says:

We gotta hang in there. They’ll hit a major losing patch eventually. We’ve already had ours.

  10. Storm Man says:

Locke is going back to the AHL glad we did not think he was a star.

“I have never failed at anything in my life so far… TripleX 12/23/2010 16:34pm”

  11. jennifer1984 says:

    im not enjoying this.

plus the only real bet i have of the season is that montreal beats boston. bet is with my hometown Boston Pizza owner… dad’s in on it too.

  12. Mark C says:

Wishful thinking on our parts Jen, Boston just put this one away.

  13. Mark C says:

5-0 Boston, just scored 2 goals in 13 seconds. Canes D-zone coverage has been pretty weak.

  14. habs365 says:

Habs are doing ok..and I doubt very much if Regehr and Glencross are the two pieces of the puzzle to win a cup..unless someone wants to give up a steady 25-30 goal scorer..leave our team intact and build on it..every year around this time we’re thinking trade..tell me how much have we improved..I don’t see any stanley with our own players and never mind picking up other teams players they’re trying to get rid of..if they were that good..they wouldn’t be trying to trade don’t see Calgary trying to get rid of Iginla..I wonder why..Habs management had better start thinking the same to better the team not to aquire more new faces…..

  15. habs001 says:

all the teams ahead of us have scored 20-40 more goals …we have now a large sample size of over 160 games that shows that the line up we have on most nights will score between 1-3 goals and will have very few games of 4 or more…nashville is the only other team that is competitive like us but has minimal scoring but great d…our goaltending, d,team d and pk has been fantastic..the pp is getting better…the players have to be given credit that we can still win our division with only 3 teams having scored less goals than we have..usually 27th place scoring teams at this stage of the season would be close to be a lottery pick team….

  16. habs365 says:

if they think they can win a cup in the next 5 years..I consider getting regehr for weber..I would have to do a lot of thinking before I’d give up ak46 for glencross and maybe a 1st and a 3rd rounder for regehr..ak46 for Glencross straight up..I think Calgary would be getting the better player down the road..if AK ever gets going, he’s gonna be a 30-35 goal scorer for years to come…….

  17. shiram says:

Au contraire, it’s doing exactly what it’s meant to do.

  18. jennifer1984 says:

yeah it is, and while price is great at home, he’s not always great against western conference teams. im glad Auld gets the start. nice for him to play at home for once.

also, seriously ive wanted poutine for days now, and your picture isnt helping!

  19. jennifer1984 says:

and it’s only the 1st period!!! oh boy. however canes can come back!

  20. gohabsgo25 says:

whoever lives in calgary. lets make flames central to habs central.

Than we will make the heritage classic into a habs classic 😀

    go habs go.

going to wear my cammy jersey to piss off all the flames fan

  21. Propwash says:

Have you cleaned your cache? Cookies, and stuff? Are you on IE or FF?

Goalies in Montreal have two roles, netminder and scapegoat.

  22. 24 Cups says:

Oilers’ Ryan Whitney may be gone for the season.  That should get them one step closer to landing Larsson in the entry draft this summer.

BTW, is it just me, or are there still log-in issues with HI/O?

  23. fuhgawz says:

in a way he is right … they do play calgary

  24. Hagar says:

Auld has made a believer out of me this year. I can’t believe the guy hasn’t started a goalie controversy yet. Hope his play keeps up.

  25. shiram says:

I have not seen a “live at home” Habs game since I was kid.  I’m not even sure anymore if it was at the Forum or Bell Center, im thinking Fourm though, and back then I wasnt even into hockey, so count yourself lucky if you can go!

  26. Mark C says:

Already 2-0 Boston, and Ward has been yanked.

Edit: now 3-0 and Boston looks to be on their way to a blowout.

  27. Mattyleg says:

You know, I am 100% in agreement with you on that one, Danno.

I only paid $80 for my nosebleed seats, so it’s no big deal. To me, $80 is like 80 cents to everyone else. I’m made of $80 bills. I blew my nose on $80 the other day and threw it into the….

Yeah, sucks Price, Wiz, and Poolie won’t be there.

    —Hope Springs Eternal—

  28. shiram says:

Isnt it Auld’s first Bell Center start? I mean Price has played all the home games as of now…

  29. KenD29 says:

Lincoln Log day sounds better though !

Tonight we skate with them, Tonight is our night!

  30. Mark C says:

A B’s regulation loss and a Montreal win tonight would tie the teams in points, with Montreal having played one extra game. I’m not giving up on third place.

Staal is playing like a PM “monster” today.

  31. RC-51 says:

And they play eachother again tomorrow!

  32. Mark C says:

Haha, it’s Martin Luther King day.

  33. RC-51 says:

    • Earlier this year Eklund said Bieska was coming to Montreal, now it’s Regher!?

  34. Tremblant Habs Fan says:

Yeah, I wasn’t sure about this one, I think I would side with a B’s win in regulation.

  35. Mattyleg says:

    Whaaaat the…?

Is there some holiday in the States today? “Lincoln Log Day”?

    —Hope Springs Eternal—

  36. Danno says:

Canes in regulation. It’s the better of two awful choices.

Forget about the other teams and just keep winning. Everything will be fine after that.

“Hey Richard, two minutes for looking so good!”

  37. Danno says:

It kind of sucks if you pay big money to see the Habs and – let’s face it – most people expect to see Price in nets, so it’s a letdown for those fans. The Bell Centre should make up for it somehow by offering free beer or something…

“Hey Richard, two minutes for looking so good!”

  38. Mattyleg says:

Yeah, thanks man, I always have a blast when I go.

(after I’ve finished getting pissed off with the stupid music pointlessly blasting at us when we should be jeering the opposition, the even stupider fan ‘games’, and the (stupidest of all) endless pointless yapping of some tart in a Habs jersey on the big screen.)

Yeah, I’ll get pretty toasted, so it doesn’t really matter who plays.

    —Hope Springs Eternal—

  39. Mark C says:

B’s and Canes about to start…guess we pull for a Canes win in regulation?

  40. shiram says:

Maybe Cammy can light it up, he sure is due for a big night. AK46 has shown some improvement since talking to JM, he can bring it as well, if he feels like it. Plus its about the ambience of the Bell Center… I can understand your frustration, but it can still be a great evening.

    A w wouldnt hurt either.

  41. HabFanSince72 says:

    Not believable.

Regher turns 31 in April. Glencross is a journeyman at best.

There is no way we are giving up a prospect plus a 1st plus AK46.

  42. Mattyleg says:

Fantastic. Going to the game tonight, and I’m SOOO glad to hear that our newest acquisition, our star goalie, and smokin’ hot Poupou won’t be there to welcome me with their silky skills.

    That’s just effin’ great.

    —Hope Springs Eternal—

  43. Malreg says:

Personally, I don’t believe anything on twitter or any message board unless it comes from the likes of Mckenzie, Friedman, Dreger, or Lebrun.

  44. avatar_58 says:

Why? Weber is finally starting to make his case for a permanent spot in the habs future plans…..and they should trade him?

  45. joeybarrie says:

I think today is a perfect day to complete this trade. I mean they are in town. So let’s get it done. Its a long flight to have to do twice if we wait till tomorrow…

There may be other teams, but only ONE Club De Hockey…

  46. Bogie Man says:

Interesting tweets on trade with the Flames. Regher and Glencross coming our way is the rumour. No word what we would be giving up but discussion about Weber and AK and a 1st rounder going back. Regher a pretty solid defenceman and is currently +8 now in stats. Glencross has 10 goals nothing to write home about but would be a good fit.

  47. Hoegarden says:

A nice article (off topic) on Emelin and his hopes to make it to the NHL.

It looks like he is more than prepared to come over but he will not/not ride the bus in the AHL. He insists on having a clause which would allow him to go back to Russia should he not crack line up in Montreal.

  48. aemarchand11 says:

Anything on Emelin should be on topic haha, thats great news. I dont think Gauthier should hesitate to put that clause into place, its likely that Emelin would fit into the habs defensive system anyway.

    Go Habs Go!

  49. avatar_58 says:

I say give it to him, if he sucks send him back home. What’s the risk exactly? Either he’s not suited for the NHL or he is. Give him a 1-2 year deal.

  50. SeriousFan09 says:

It’s a good time to start Auld, it’s an Out of Conference game so we don’t give up points to anyone in a race for a playoff spot, the team needs to be kept on their toes a bit about being complacent (Love Auld’s sub-2.00 GAA but that shouldn’t be counted on) and with a B2B involving travel, it’s better not to run Carey ragged with a lot of travel this week.

    – I shall always remember Captain Koivu. Habs and Hockey.

  51. deuce6 says:

    Auld needs to play more..

Yes, I’m a Hab fan..Wanna fight about it?

  52. deuce6 says:

I disagree..IMO, he needs at least a year or so in the AHL to get used to the NA game..If he wants to make demands of that nature, leave him there or trade him to a team that will make the mistake of adding him to their NHL roster before grooming him into the Western style of game..

Yes, I’m a Hab fan..Wanna fight about it?

  53. Mark C says:

I think in Emelin’s case the NA style of game isn’t that much of a worry. All the scouting reports suggest that his physical style of play is best suited for NA. If that’s the case then more games and the size of the ice surface are the only differences. If Emelin were to demand going straight to the NHL – fair on his part due to age, skill, and value in the KHL – Montreal should be willing to do that. If Markov is signed, then let Markov take Emelin under his wing and hope for the best. Emelin’s potential is too great and he represents the ideal defenseman Montreal needs to pass on because he demands to play at the NHL level.

  54. Mats Naslund says:

(Y)emelin already plays a north american style game. He is WAY beyond the AHL at this point. In 41 games he’s got 18 points, hes a +12 and is just shy of 100 PIMS while averaging 22+ Mins a night. If he was an offensive D man I might agree, but its his defense that the Habs will need next year. I say bring him over. He’s 24 years old, and been a pro for years. He’s learned the game.

Gorges-Gill/Hamr (If I get to choose I take Hamr with a home-town discount).

  55. deuce6 says:

All I see is hype..The KHL is not the National Hockey League…He may be best suited for the NA game, but that does not mean he would excel in it..If he wants to make demands like that, then leave him there..We can’t have unproven players, yes I said unproven NHLers, making demands of that nature..

Just for the record, has Pavel Valentenko ever made himself into a bona fide NHLer with the NYR???

Didn’t he have issues with going to the AHL to actually learn the NA game? Russian born players are becoming more of a headache than anything..

Yes, I’m a Hab fan..Wanna fight about it?

  56. Mats Naslund says:

The KHL isn’t the NHL, but neither is the AHL. If the Habs want to see what they have – they’ll need to see him in Montreal. Considering every regular NHLer asks for a 1-way contract I can understand why he would want a guarantee that he won’t be toiling in the minors waiting for an injury to Gill or Spacek to get a chance. He’s played pro-hockey since 04-05. There has been ample time to assess his play – both domestically and internationally.

Ultimately, I think you have to try to bring a defender like this into the organization. It will depend on the NHL’s rules, whether they can accommodate his request.

  57. Mark C says:

Exactly, and I believe that the KHL is generally considered a stronger league than the AHL. It is my understanding that he would have to sign a 1-year, 2-way contract with a base max of $984,200 and up to $2.85M in bonuses. Sign him to a contract like that with the expectation that he plays 13-17 minutes a night as a bottom pairing D. Based on his scouting reports and his stats, there should be a high level of confidence that Emelin can be as good as the Picard’s and Weber’s of the world. If he can’t fill that limited role then he goes back to the KHL, big deal. The Habs can ill afford to pass on Emelin potential based on this “request”, chances are it won’t even matter.

  58. Mats Naslund says:

Just depends on whether or not the NHL’s CBA would allow for an arrangement like this. As it stands, Montreal could waive the player. There is some precedent with NHL teams finding a European club to take players from their roster.

Still, even with the little extra risk involved – you have to think bringing a physical, 25 year old defender with good puck moving abilities is one that this organization should jump on. You can’t complain about missing out on players in the draft and then ignore the drafted players in the system.

Ultimately, I bet PG meets with him and tells him that the Canadiens will accommodate him to the extent that the NHL CBA allows. Whether that means giving the player assurances that the Club intends for him to play at the NHL level, or some other incentives (bonuses etc) – I think this is less of an issue than it appears.

  59. Mark C says:

Right, there shouldn’t be any deal breakers for both parties. His upside and low cap hit make this a no brainier for PG. Here’s to hoping he really wants to come the NHL.

  60. mike g says:

Most probably no Wiz or Benny. And, Auld in nets.

Now I know CGY isn’t the most offensive team in the league, nor are they a good team overall, but I’m a little worried about this one.

If we drop the game tonight, we have to win in BUF tomorrow..

I got AK at under 64.5 pts, with Triple X and Tom Nickle.

  61. mike g says:

    Good for the Flames….

The NHL has apparently already decided and recently notified the NHL teams who have been selected to start next season in Europe/Russia.

The Flames were selected, and when notified, apparently they told the NHL:

” Um,…sorry but no. Just no thanks, were just fine playing here infront of a packed house every night, and um,….yea were just not gonna go.”

Thumbs up to the Flames for raising their middle finger to the NHL in this matter. It’s a joke of a poor marketing campaign that the NHL thaught would be a genious move. And all it does is cause a headache for the teams who have to go there.

    This makes me happy….

    That’s awesome!!!

Way to go Flamers. My fave non-Hab team.

    —Hope Springs Eternal—

  63. Bogie Man says:

Tonight’s game will be interesting. We take our best dman and our best goalie out, this leaves us relying heavily on our offensive skill. Hmmm I predict failure.

  64. Ian Cobb says:

We are relying on J. Martin’s system and that everyone knows the game plan. Just different bodies playing the system. No problem.!!

  65. SmartDog says:

Someone kept saying Auld should play more, Price should rest more.  Who was it…. hmmmm????

I swear JM gets my posts about 3 weeks after I make them.  I need to post more about NOT trading away young players.  Dear JM, work WITH the young players to make them stronger, get RID of the OLDER guys and plunkers that can’t contribute fully or consistantly.

    There, that should do it.

    From Eric Engels…

” The Habs just went 4-1 against the Penguins twice, Bruins, and Rangers twice. They weren’t expected to do as well, certainly not without Josh Gorges and Andrei Markov (and Roman Hamrlik for one of those games). “

Impressive, especially if you add that Cammy also missed 2 games.

Using a retired wheel of dounts to set up line combinations does NOT constitute a “system”

  72. joeybarrie says:

And what is your win loss record as a coach in the NHL pray tell???

JM is doing a very good job. What would your suggestion be by the way?

HH?  You gotta be kidding me!!

I’ve been saying it this year AND last year.  Price needs breaks. He’s shown it for his whole time in the NHL and Martin can’t see it, he has to push it too far even when it’s obvoius Price is getting tired.   Does this ring a bell:  “The kid’s on pace for 70+ games which is ridiculous for any goalie let alone a 24 year old.”   I’ve said this at least 5 times this year.  (Yeah, so I repeat myself, so what.  Yeah so I repeat myself, so what?)

  76. VintageFan says:

Same as JM; less than 50%.
