Audio: Weber gets spot on the PP

Audio of Bob Gainey

Yannick Weber will be on the point for the Canadiens power play against Boston Thursday night but coach Bob Gainey isn’t sure where the 20-year-old Swiss defenceman fits in when the team is at even strength.

Weber was recalled from Hamilton today and Doug Janik was returned to the Bulldogs. Gainey said he made the move because it changes the style of the team. Gainey is hoping that Weber’s skills can help the power play, which is 0-for-6 in two games since losing Andrei Markov and Mathieu Schneider last Saturday.

Gainey said he may dress seven defencemen with Mathieu Dandenault back on the blue line and Weber being confined to power-play duties. There’s also the possibility that Weber could see action as a forward, playing the same role fellow Helvetian Mark Streit played in Montreal.

There’s no news on Schneider or Markov but Gainey did confirm that they are out indefinitely.

Gainey hasn’t settled on a goaltender for Thursday’s game but said he’s leaning toward Carey Price.
