Pat Hickey is in Washington with the Canadiens as they prepare for Game 2 of their best-of-seven Eastern Conference quarterfinal series against the Capitals.
Despite winning Game 1, the Canadiens know they haven’t won anything yet and will have plenty of work ahead if they hope to complete an upset of the NHL’s top team.
Hickey also spoke with Capitals head coach Bruce Boudreau to try to learn what is wrong with superstar Alex Ovechkin.

The goaltending differential gives the Habs a decent shot. I think the Pricer might want to start working on his George Hamilton tan. He ain’t gonna set the net unless Jaro gets hurt.
I’m getting blocked by the CBC. I need to rent this over the summer: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6OJEmdAx9E4
He was unique. Really one-of-a-kind. He pitched for the Red Sox when I was going to school in Boston although I never got to see him work a game live. Quite a character.
Hope they can keep up the intensity tomorrow. No illusions here but the whole parity thing does seem to come to the surface during the playoffs. Makes for interesting matchups. Watching the Detroit game now. I was hoping for the Hawks but both TSN and TSN2 are showing Wings. Oh well, these are just appetizers for tomorrows tilt. Stock up on Belgians. We’re gonna need them.

from wikipedia:
After the Expos released Lee, he played for a number of semi-professional teams. This included the short-lived Senior League in Florida, largely composed of retired major leaguers. In 1988, he claims to have run for President of the United States on the Canadian Political Rhinoceros Party ticket, but failed to appear on the ballot in any state. His slogan for the election was “No guns. No butter. Both can kill.
I think this guy had some issues.
You have to wade through an 82-game house league to eliminate the 13 really bad teams and of course the Leafs. Because it is essentially meaningless, any team, even the Habs, can win the Cup if they get on a roll with exceptional goaltending. The talent gap between the Bs and the Habs was much, much wider in 1971 than that between the Caps and the Habs. They did a pretty good job of neutralizing OV last night much the same way Houle did Bobby Hull in the ’71 Final.
Understood.
Hey, gotta love the intensity of playoff hockey. Wish we could see this throughout the season. Those 82 runups are nothing more than pickup games compared to this. And most pickups have at least a half dozen guys playing hard as opposed to the regular season games the NHL presents. It’s times like this when I wish the season only had a dozen teams and 50 games. No longer economically viable I suppose but it would be so much more fun for the fans.
Guy sings, ‘er speaks, the truth!
lmfao,man i can’t stop laughing.
The recording in the post above says it all!
Great. We can’t see it here in “the true north strong and free” because it contains content that the CBC owns and is blocked in Canada. The CFBC actually.
Maybe you could submit a 500 word essay giving us an idea of the content.
I heard that Pleks has been playing this in the locker room:

This was the low point of the decade: http://www.youtube.com/index?ytsession=ez5SG9CA1NZfBTTMJVgmcBi9qT5zMI5UP6GuNJbsCdoo6uwdyrKBR4R3h7TFyR7K-XvEu3vfQUGD8I0GvlfUBqkOv6Yg3pJgfl7dDuq55dOFnz5IqN66YR0krz5nwcpXgFStKsWvkHizTJvprMOTDxnI007BCiUz1YtE4bjixkM3tVqIS5ZpjCqe2g291RNtmW_wrXjOGZV0DBFNTMRPNMjBBTxyvVyEvUgT9k_qbrhSyuHupFmTFtZ6TLvws_LYTzgE65BPveiYmThalGf7BoAIinb9_YkvWGggaMJ-h6qG0KnWyy00xt7VLGaqC2nFZve_ecyKUF_WkxY-GAK4DFXjwo5sY4jZXzPJLUdLvGwnwfC75sZD3jyrosly9CEi3Bq7XqHEToB7rqA7AQHEhbfieeOHX1rqTe26H4ekX0cchoGqY9U6kazoYM7Yp1qg
I’m surfing them all on CBC, TSN and TSN2. Watching the NJ game too and I’ll go to the Hawks after the OT while the Wings game gets rolling. Whew. Need to be in shape for all this channel hopping.
The Devils-Flyers game is intense. Very chippy and physical. Fast paced as well!! 3-3 going into the 3rd.
any of these bring back some painful memories?

That play by Crosby was outrageous. Keep away from Spezza, back and forth behind the net. Wow.
Ouch. Careful Brian, I have some pics of my first wedding somewhere and I resemble that remark!
I thought it would go 70s Habs-Bruins brawl like this:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UBkvn4SsR5A
But it’s just a typical new NHL game. Nothing over the edge yet.
Powder blue tuxes and ruffled shirts?
how ugly? Like bell bottom pants and platform shoes ugly? or 70′s porn ugly?
There was contact as he hit the puck, yes. But not enough contact to knock him down until after the puck was knocked away.
They are the most wothless journalists/reporters in the history or anything….useless , the only two good things about tsn is – Jay Onrait and Dan O’Toole in the morning show….effing hilarious and NON BIASED towards any team. There goofy as hell but thats what makes the am highlights worth watching to me
To really cap off the way these playoffs are starting out we need to finish off the Hawks in 7 for The Cup.
roy won 10 consecutive overtime games in the 1993 playoffs – 10!!!
In the 1993 playoffs, after the Canadiens lost their first two games to their archrival Quebec Nordiques in the first round series, a newspaper in Roy’s hometown district and suggested that he be traded. Nordiques goaltending coach Dan Bouchard also proclaimed that his team had solved Roy. These comments seemed to fire up Roy, who responded by winning the next four games against the Nordiques, sweeping the Buffalo Sabres in the next round, and winning the first three against the New York Islanders to complete an eleven post-season game winning streak. Roy set a record during the post-season with 10 straight overtime wins, won the Stanley Cup, and was once again the Conn Smythe Trophy winner.
This Pens-Sens game is gonna get ugly. 70s ugly.
only penguins fans boo if you hit crosby
Here’s what I don’t buy about that JV.
First, it suggests that if he had kept his head up either a) he could possibly have seen the hit coming and avoided it, or b) the Sens player would not have tried to hit him. In either case the play happened so fast that neither party could have avoided it. So in fact the hit was going to happen no matter what. Keeping his head up would not help.
Second, the height of a player isn’t an excuse or a reason to make or not make a hit. The elbow was deliberately up to deliberately connect with the Sens head or he was deliberately trying to elbow him in the chest, arm, stomach or neck. Any way you look at it that was an elbowing penalty at the very least.
ya i saw it, not worth a vote imo
Replay showed he tripped him at the same time he hit the puck. Good call by the ref.
So wheres the Varlamov poll? They should be asking about the controversy on THEIR end, instead of trying to create one on ours.
I really HATE philly. They are such a dirty team. Even their stars (Richards, Briere, Hartnell) are dirty players!
It’s like the penalty they DIDN’T call yesterday on Gionta. Except Gionta actually got tripped, and Clarkson in this case made a great play. The refs are SSOOOO inconsistent it’s insane
I dunno, the way I see it, is if a player is responsible for his stick, regardless of whether he intends to high-stick, then he should also be responsible for his elbow – regardless of his height.
