Audio: Gomez making trip, Price vs. Wings

AUDIO: Jacques Martin | Scott Gomez | Travis Moen | Yannick Weber

Highlights from a day that was off-ice only, the team chartering out at 3 pm for Windsor:

Scott Gomez will make the trip. Jacques Martin says the centreman is improving and a decision will be made tomorrow on his status. Gomez said, in several different ways, that it’s lower-body, and joked that he has a large lower body. Said he was struck by a leg.

Carey Price gets the start in goal vs. Detroit. Martin will then consider who he plays vs. Toronto.

    groin pull.

And if you’ve never had one, it’s the strangest damn feeling in the world. Selanne has been in and out with a minor one the past 2 weeks.

And Gomez is right. Rest it is better.

  2. LA Loyalist says:

My buddy, who is a passionate Caps fan, asked about the Sub situation, I explained as best I could, summarizing both sides of the debate from HIO.

He said Caps would happily take PK Subban off our hands.

I think that says all that needs to be said.

My own personal opinion, or as they say, tentative ruling, (and obviously we don’t know exactly what happened, and if we did our opinions might change) is that Coach Martin does not understand that exercising authority is not the same thing as exercising judgment.

    Gomez explains the injury below,,

“I’ve been in the League a while now, and I know this is the kind of
thing you want to be careful with,” continued Gomez when questioned on
the severity of his injury. “How you deal with something like this can
mean the difference between missing a couple of days, or missing a
couple of months. You just have to take the right precautions.”  “When I was younger, I played with guys that never had any excuses for
not jumping on the ice, whether it was a Randy McKay or a Scott
    Stevens,” “You play
regardless of the pain. But there are some injuries that you’re just
stupid if you ignore and try to play through. The playoffs are an
entirely different story. I’ve always been lucky enough to be part of
teams who had a good idea where they were going to find themselves in
    the standings.”

Gomez’s words above, as seen on the habs website

At first I didnt really care that Subban sat out but now it doesnt really make sense. He is sitting out because technically the team is winning. So does that mean he sits in the pressbox until they lose. He should be used to help the team and I think he would help against Detroit. Just saying he shouldnt be sat until they lose just cause their winning.

  5. SeriousFan09 says:

Just watched some Pavel Datsyuk highlights.

Kovalev, this is who you could have been if you gave a damn more often.

    - I shall always remember Captain Koivu. Habs and Hockey.

  6. andrewberkshire says:

    Never heard of him.

  7. Storm Man says:

I know lol, He looks alittle like you. You know the guy im talking about.

  8. andrewberkshire says:

What? No. My last name is in my username.

  9. OneTimer says:

Great visuals, but it was trying too hard to be all “cerebral”. Memento (and the Dark Knight for that matter) were better.

  10. Storm Man says:

Are you not the guy in Montreal having 100,000 websites tattooed on his back? Last name Vailancourt.

  11. andrewberkshire says:

Couldn’t disagree more. Great character driven thriller, with philosophical implications.

  12. notbigbird says:

I hated it intensely. Glorified chase movie IMO. But I realize that the world at large sees it differently. :)

Of course they’re gonna defend that old buzzard.  He’s a cash cow for the CBC.  They’re not about to shoot the goose that lay’s the golden egg’s.

  14. punkster says:

You gonna come on here with all that F you stuff then I’m gonna have to start an anti-Cammy campaign, just to p you off.

It’s an easier trip from the Windsor airport to Joe Louis Arena through the tunnel in downtown Windsor than it is to fly into Metro Airport which is located 30 miles outside of Detroit.

  17. andrewberkshire says:

He’s on a damn good streak of good movies that’s for sure. Marion Cotillard is also top notch. Beautiful beyond words to boot.

  18. Bill J says:

Leo certainly does pick good scripts…

  19. andrewberkshire says:

Best movie of the year, maybe the last several years.

  20. Bugs says:

For 110pt Malkin, yes. For 75pt Malkin, no.

Tony didn’t say that; Tieman said that. And since Tieman has a don’t-wanna-listen-to-nuthin-else hate-on for the Artiste.., feh, whatever. For my part, I’d be happy to have Kovy back but won’t gnash my teeth in resentment towards the club if he’s not reacquired cuz we KNOW what we’re gettin.

Malkin is young. He was up; now he’s down. We DON’T know what we’re gettin. He would need to go up and down again so that a discernible pattern could emerge that we could then COMPARE to Kovalev’s patterns.

The point is: I like Tieman. Nice guy. But he’s turning into an old fuddy-duddy imo. Has been for some years. Opinionated coot; not “proposer of debate”.

    …malkin is like kovalev…

    Ferpetessakes.

Maybe at the time Cammy was a bit jelious of all the media attention PK was getting but the media likes someone who likes to talk makes their job abit easier…….lol

  22. Ayan_SB says:

On a night without a Habs game, it’s the perfect time to rewatch Inception on Blu-Ray.

  23. VancouverHab says:

Yo: “assuming that we can win without him” “we can’t win without him.”

  25. otter649 says:

If the other team scores(player) off the turnover ala Cammy chug the full glass  or at least two shots…….lol

  26. Bill J says:

I would not be too quick to say “No”

    Here’s how I see it.

    My emotions say – No!

My Logic says – Hmmmmmm Perhaps.

Sure losing PK is HUGE.  Losing Cammy also hard to take.

But adding a Malkin ?  He would fill ANY position in the top 3 quite well.

Makes me go, hmmmm – Perhaps I would want PG to in turn be rid of Gomez too…  IE “Fine you can have PK & Cammy, but you also take Gomez, and we get something/someone in addition to Malkin.”

Certainly would make me ponder it…

  27. andrewberkshire says:

    what?

  28. VancouverHab says:

Bang on. Almost word for word from my posts on the topic (someone finally agrees with me, so forgive me enjoying it ;–)

There’s two sides to the matter, and it’s good and fair to have both of them in respectful exchange…

  29. Bill J says:

I would also hope Sports teams on chartered planes/buses… Can get pre-screened & not have to worry about “why where you visiting the United States” type questions ;)

    lol

  30. bigjames says:

i would hope that winning back to back games and keeping the players as rested as possible would take precedence over a few bucks of travel charges….

  31. jennifer1984 says:

rogers internet for me was always better than rogers.

and even though Shaw is the same as Rogers (company wise like rogers=fido=shaw) i find Shaw much much quicker than Rogers was.

however i am in a new city that doesnt have rogers, only shaw

  32. joeybarrie says:

Easier and cheaper to keep the plane in Canada.

There may be other teams, but only ONE Club De Hockey…

  33. HardHabits says:

  35. bigjames says:

logistics question here: why fly to wondsor instead of detroit? will they fly back out of windsor tonight? if so, doesn’t that add time at the border etc, rather than flying from detroit to toronto and doing the border stuff at the airport. i certainly hope they are not bussing from detroit to toronto cause that is like 4 hours and they have a game the next night! just seems strange logistics to me…

  36. Harani says:

I don;t know how many f you heard this but someone on the radio this morning asked if you would do Cammi and P.K. for Malkin, My answer would be a big NO (IMHO, P.K. is untouchable).

But the question to discuss would be what will you give up if you were to get Malkin or if you would just say no to him. I think he would do well if given a starring role all to himself. Then again, Tony on Team990 was of the opinion that he has too much of the “Kovalev” in him.

    Discuss.

    “It must be love!”

  37. punkster says:

What I wouldn’t pay to have a buddy in college with that name back in the 70s. ‘Course I did go to school with John Head and he lived up to his moniker. Had an old metal army trunk full of the stuff. Good thing I never indulged. (says the ex-Berklee trumpet player ;)

It’s not what it used to be. I have a lot more hate on for Pens, Cans, Philly, and on occasions the Bruins.

  40. HabsFanInTampa says:

    Rochester, NY?

  41. Chorske says:

    The Mike Komisarek drinking game.

He passes to a member of the other team: one shot.

I think that’s enough rules right there.

  42. Chorske says:

Like I said last year: picking on the Leafs is like booing at the Special Olympics.

  43. andrewberkshire says:

You’re right Bugs, my analogy doesn’t work… I wouldn’t laugh at a homeless person, but I definietly laugh when the Leafers lose.

As for the Canes, they’re behind the Broons and Flyers for me.

  44. Chorske says:

    Congrats.

Now you can prepare for a follow-up call, probably within the next week, from a Bell rep detailing all the ways you could save BIG by switching BACK to Bell. I don’t like crapping on telemarketers, it’s not their fault their employer makes them do douchey things, plus I had an ex who worked as one, so I’ve been sensitized. Anyway, point is, when the guy called, he started on his spiel, and I said LOOK, I pay the same rate with the new provider (Videotron), but my internet connection is faster, my phone line is clearer, PLUS I get cable bundled in. He countered that Bell was prepared to offer me a low LOW price for ALL of those services, and PROMISED that the fees wouldn’t go up. I said, no, sorry, like the song goes, I won’t get fooled again.

  45. Propwash says:

I find that the Leafs play hard, no doubt. They just cannot quite get it together on the scoreboard.

Goalies in Montreal have two roles, netminder and scapegoat.

  46. Willy the bum says:

Am I crazy, or the Leafs just sucks because of Komisarek being jealous of Phaneuf because he’s the better man for being the captain and having Elisha Cuthbert by his side?  Life is funny, eh?

Well, can’t wait to see the Habs this weekend!

  47. Bugs says:

    Word.

I hate the Caners more than the leafs. More reason to.

But I prefer watching the leafs lose, no question about it; it’s more fun.

HERE IS THE REPLY I RECEIVED REGARDING REPORTING OF DON CHERRY

FYI Last  week Don Cherry said on the AIR that he can say anything he wants whenever he wants,,,

    “The Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications
Commission forwarded to me your email concerning comments made by Don Cherry
about P.K. Subban following the first game of Hockey Night in Canada’s November
    27 doubleheader

It is unfortunate that you believe anything Don said was
“racist” and “bigoted” and that Don’s comments amounted to
putting “a bounty” on Subban’s head. For a number of weeks, Subban’s play has been topic for
players, coaches, fans, and the media. Don’s job as a commentator is to talk
about the hot issues around the league, and this is a hot topic.

I have reviewed the tapes of Don’s short comments about
Subban on November 27 and comments he made about this player earlier in
November. I must strongly disagree with your assessment of them. He said
nothing “racist.” Nor did he say anything which could be construed as
a “bounty.” He neither incited nor justified violence toward Subban.
Indeed, he has not only praised Subban’s talent – noting that Subban is a
player Don has known of and watched develop for many years – but he also stated
outright that he did not condone players deliberately hurting each other.

Again, thank you for writing. I’ve shared your comments
    with my colleagues at HNIC.

    Sincerely,

    David Masse

    Senior Director,

    CBC Sports”

I love my Videotron Cable. I saw that there was the 30mb service available at the same price as the 10mb, so I call them, and they sent a tech the next day to replace the router. 3x the speed at the same cost, me likey.

Goalies in Montreal have two roles, netminder and scapegoat.

  51. andrewberkshire says:

That’s surprising. According to studies across Canada, Rogers is the most consistent company for providing the speed of the internet that the customer pays for. Shaw, Telus and Bell are all ranked incredibly low by comparison.
