Canadiens general manager Bob Gainey, in discussing today’s trade of veteran goalie Cristobal Huet, says he’s confident going forward with two youngsters in Carey Price and Jaroslav Halak.
The Atlanta Thrashers wanted "four elements" for Marian Hossa, "and three of them are skating tonight," so clearly he wasn’t prepared to make that deal. Gainey admits to being disappointed a trade couldn’t be done, but he’s comfortable moving forward with the team he has.
That and much more is contained in Gainey’s comments to the media in the wake of today’s trading deadline. Listen to his thoughts in their entirety here (runs 16:45).
