useless post. but you are allowed. it’s a free world.
good one… i like it… you made me smile its xmas, in a couple hours and i am smiling. thank you. But do you really know why i’m smiling? Its because you repeatidly try to attack, about every line/word/letter i write and not look at the whole picture. I am writing this in the matter of mosts habs fans think. i am making a point, and i believe it is a valid point. like it or not it’s my DAMN OPINION. GET IT?
Now i ask you again, imagine yourself a member of the media and provide accurate feedback to a general post, in your opinion which you seem to try to be recently. i don’t know, i don’t remember every post, and never read your blog, never will for that matter, i don’t have the time. Try it, read a blog/opinion by someone who is not scientifically proven for making opinions (i don’t know, just do it), or even merit an opinion to appear in some blog somewhere or even on TSN for that matter (you never know i really am, do you?). So now that you have the mindset, read my article (post, whatever), thoroughly. Not the jibber jabber back and forth recently. Really try to get my point while reading it, as if you are reading the gazette for instance and have an opinion on the article. You don’t have to agree with everything that appears in the gazette’s sports section? its part news part opinion. Ask Boone, he probably gets tons of emails on his opinion good or bad. Now, i do understand that i have written this over my ~ 1 day break this holiday season (yup, i’m that busy), and not every fan on this site likes to read long posts like mine seem to be recently. and i understand folks if you didn’t respond in the matter i expected it (i tried though), but guess what, fans response is not what i’m looking for (and certainly not yours bugsy). I sent a long email to Mitch Melnick (btw i have never done this before, i’m not an crazy/stupid habs fans like some people are) and asked for his opinion and if he can hear me out on air (i doubt it…).
Anyways, my firend bugsy. Now that you know what i expected from my posts, please, please try again. if you don’t feel like it and don’t want to make the effort, or even if your gonna antagonize me again, save your fingers. otherwise, i will look forward to it.
Now, in response to your valid point (very few so far) about tanking to hope to draft and move on to greatness, that’s a pipe dream and i never said i want my habs to ever lose. it was an opinion of mine and a well thought out one, i might add. If we ever start missing the playoffs for 3-4 years and losing like the islanders/edmonton/pittsburgh/anyone who has done and either succeded and went on to greatness in a short (i use this term lightly) period of time enough to draft in the top 10 for those seasons, and start building up through this draft that will possibly bring you great talents, you may end up in the likes of Chicago, Pittsburgh, Philly (you get my point. btw i really don’t pay much attention (due to the lack of personal time) to the western conference and have no idea who is leading the pack… Detroit, maybe?). Or, continue the downfall in the likes of the Islanders (this team has been the worst of the past decade constantly, because they made bad decisions. hey we made our own and managed to stay in the middle of the pack season after season) or Edmonton. Considering Edmonton on the other hand, if they play their cards right, they will probably end up regaining their pre-lockout era greatness. All in all, you really never know.
I put it out there and maybe that is not what we should be doing (my opinion here), but maybe something needs to change to drastically transform this team. Gainey tried and then fired the coach, and left himself to not see it happen (probably, and yeah he may still be up there, but who really has the cards now?) This will probably (my opinon, again) cause our demise or give us greatness, we don’t know, no one can see 3-4 years ahead. We all can try foresee the next 4 years for example, with our recent picks and our young in the farm and the NHL currently. Actually (thanks to a recent article (3 years ago i think) we were thought as having one of the best young talent (be it through the draft or trades). What happened in the next 3-4 years (today) that made us continue our middle of the pack team? Player Development… we really suck in this department. My points were see the likes of Latendress/Rebeiro/etc… (i can’t rememer them all) Maybe, just maybe we need help in this department. This leads me to my next point…
The Molsons can do it if they have the guts to not listen to us (fans/media). The media, really shouldn’t influence a team’s decision on who we should hire as gm/coach. My point is that, if you look around, can you really count the number of teams that let’s the fans/media control their decision? I thought of Toronto due to the hot bed of fans there. If they really do that, i would be surprised. We are the only team (so far, maybe Quebc city) that has a bilingual fan base/media. And, thinking of that i can’t find a team that requires a french coach and GM (player too, but not this year, they were upset about the lack of frenchies on the team recently). But due to that we have Jack Martin and Pierre Gauthier. I’m not saying they are not good at what they do, or even that they were the best at hiring time (circa Boivin (another one) era). I think this has to stop, and it could be due to the recent apointment of President of this team (on June 30 2011 i believe), Mr Molson (forgot his first name).
Now my opinion is that he can bring change to the front office to make such changes that don’t listen to us all, by either firing the entire front office, go on a fire sale, trade away the players that don’t show up in my opinion, not most of the young ones, although it may happen to sweet’n the deal, some of our current draft picks, accumulate draft picks, and really good young/mid age players. Now this is extreme, and you never know really, and it is really hard to do in such a market. But isn’t it worth it to try maybe (on the downlow at the Molsons office, which i’m sure they want $ and a good team), and then go the usual route at the press conference and say basically nothing. Look at good teams who have done it in the past? Sorry i have no examples (has it ever happened, recently?). I agree that we all don’t want losers in Montreal, But seriously here, what has happened in Montreal in the past 17 (!!) years? It’s an eternity today’s NHL (well not really considering the laughs). We have pretty much not won anything (have we?) but have had certain positives here and there recently and we did make it to the semi finals last year (miracle!!!). But what does that mean really? You are all habs fans. Die hard or not, recent or long term, and are a relatively young group (i’m 35, and still consider myself young). Is there no possible change drastic enough that it makes us a real contender? Think about it and let me know what you REALLY think. Don’t shoot me down because you don’t agree with me, and don’t kick me while i’m down disagreeing with you!!!
Respect is a real word (look it up), be it online or in real life. After all it’s the holidays, a time to rejoice for what we (not the habs, but we all) have accomplished and to be merry. Lighten up my friend. Argue my point all you want but please, respect me.
Thank you all who read my posts (including you Bugs) and please have a Merry and safe Christmas/Holiday season. All the best to all. Good night.
i don’t know if it’s me, does anyone notice that bugs is really condesending in his replies to other people? if you want to be taken seriously, and maybe this isn’t a matter to a lot of people (real world or habs land), but please Respect others… this is a habs blog with MANY opinions. Being condisending to 90% of the people here doesn’t make you popular…. i don’t know… i have never attended one of those member meetings for a game once or twice a year by ian cobb, but does everyone know you personally? If not, this has to stop. the first thing you need here (and anywhere else, which i don’t know you personally) is respect for others opinions and you will be respected…. argue a point all you want about your opinion, but don’t disrespect them like you did me, because i rambled for a long while (i told you i rarely post). Check my number of posts vs yours, i really don’t have the time to constantly post like you do due to my work and family obligations. but due to holiday season, and a little time on my trusty mac, i decided to give my opinion on on the matter at hand and the team in general. love it or hate, i really don’t care…
my 2 cents on YOU
p.s. sorry if i have disrespected you personally by my posts earlier, but you had it coming “Bugsy“. Also, if you are not the same way in real life (not this virtual world of blogs) with your family and friends, all the better to you. I know i am to all, habs or not.
Damn government jobs! No time for nuthin’!
Well obviously he’s of no use to us!
“Can i ask a favor? can you please all read my posts (1 post and 1 reply so far) here?
I would like to receive feedback.”
– Fab K. Dec 23, 2010
Ask, and ye shall receive.
I’m negative? But wanting to tank is POSITIVE? Oh. I see. Sorry for being negative then.
You didn’t “skip any details”, Fabby, your post was four feet long ferpetessakes. What you DID was leave out the evidence that contradicted your argument. Furthermore, my opinion was clear and JUST AS “bona fide” as yours: tanking is for losers; we’re not losers in Mtl and so, we will never tank. That was my response, Fabby. I thought it was clear, no? It wasn’t clear? Sorry. Must be my negativity again.
You have a “new” opinion, do you? We NEVER heard the “let’s tank to win” strategy on this site? Huh, that’s funny, I thought we heard it at least a hundred different times in a hundred different ways and we shot them all down because, I repeat, we’re not losers in Mtl. It’s not how we were raised. Your opinion is hardly “new”, Fabby, sorry to say. Even dressed in different clothes, the idea is still just as offensive.
…lose to win…(shudder)
I like your last paragraph though, Fabby, and I must agree; you avoiding debate with me is probably for the best. I certainly cannot deny that I “all I do is cause trouble” at the moment since you appear to be in a whole lotta trouble keeping your tanking argument afloat with me.
Your final line is a classic, Fabby; allow me to paraphrase it: “if there was a reason to ban you, you’d be banned.” I love it! How can I argue THAT?
Merry Xmas, you sly fox, you.

dude, first off stop being so f***ing negative on everything people say on here… after all they are OPINIONS. get that through your head. Second, you didn’t properly read my post and only scanned through it, and don’t get what i’m talking about. so before you antagonize me about your damn negativity, read it properly think about it and then reply. if you have nothing to bring to the table about something i have been thinking about for the past 10 years concerning this team, which i still love, is that we need change. Agreed? GOOD.
Also, if i missed a couple teams such as NY Islanders, Edmonton, etc, it’s not because i didn’t look at these team, but rather skipped the detail and went on with my post.
if you don’t reply with a bonafide opinion of your own and continue to do such immature things as your last post about my idea/opinion of the matter, then don’t reply.
Guess what, i have a new opinion (which i don’t think you understand the word, pick up a dictionary), i won’t read your posts again, nor answer them, because they are baseless. All you do here (and point me if i’m wrong people) is cause trouble. If you swore all over the place like some people (timo), you’d be banned from the site.
Merry Christmas to you to dumba**
p.s. sorry if i have offended anyone else.
Same Staal that kneed Markov and ended his season without a penalty? Yup, that’s what I thought.
But be sure to think responsibly.
I saw that as well and thought, how stupid can you get, don’t you even watch the games? I’ve seen it happen a few other times, where they’ve melded two different points in a contest to make it appear as if they occurred in sequence but never anything as outrageous as this.
Gionta WAS tripped and the Cane player deserved a penalty, as Ferraro said, for all of Staal’s bleating. And whether Spacek was seriously hurt or not was irrevelant, Cole deserved a five minute major for the sheep viciousness of the hit from behind. It was the intent to do bodily harm and the POTENTIAL to cause severe injury that warranted more than a two-minute minor. But the brainiacs at TSN would have you believe Spacek hadn’t been rattled as much as it appeared to the casual observer. A lump of coal in their stockings.
Wishing all of you here at HIO a blessed, joyous, and safe holidays.
Go Habs Go!
Did anyone watch TSN sportscentere this morning. Man TSN is dumb and likes to mix up facts…..
After Spacek was hit from behind, they show Stall skating by and yelling “Get up”, explaing how Stall was not happy and even skates by and yells get up. Well this was not during the Spacek hit, this was at the end of the game when Gionta was tripped.
Gionta was tripped near the Canes becnh and by the reply on TSN it shows Stall yelling when he was between centre ice and his blue line, Spacek was down in front of the Habs bench. Ray Ferraro, who was in between the benches last nite even said after Gionta tripped, Stall just yelled “Get Up”.
So if this is not TSN calling the hit a dive on Spacek, i dont know what is. And Maurice comments are plain out dumb, especially becuase Cole knows what he did and was right at Spaceks side the entire time showing concern.
how’s that interesting? price had to make big saves last night so that carolina did not come out on top. he’ll be an excellent player for us down the road.
Looks like you have an opinion on the matter there, Knucky.
Here is a Boston site discussing the subject in question where you don’t have to log in to comment and where your opinion may find happy residence.

His points production actually dropped (as did others) after said injuries. At least their D is healthy again.

Reminded me of that pussy Lousi Sleigher ending Jean Hamel’s
career, but lets not forget with help of the (“strongest” linesman in the
world according to Donald S. Cherry) John D’Amico.
I hope Hamel drives by Sleigher’s house once a year and shoots out the
porch light, that weasel.
A PERFECT record when PK is a healthy scratch. Interesting.
Oh, my g… Too long, Fabby; too looooooong. If this is the “gist” of your point, I sure as heck don’t wanna see the unabridged version.
So, your “point” starts with a hate-on for Bettman that concludes as being a “story for another time”. What the heck? Ok, good start.
The “point” resumes in order to validate the Tanking Strategy and lo, who else to use as examples but teams that were so INEPT and so INCOMPETENT that they were given HANDOUTS in order to succeed but curiously, make no mention of the teams who’ve been trying that method for years but STILL stink, the Isles, the leafers, the Panters, the Jackets, and until they show anything, the Oilers and Trashers. They’ve been tankin and they got JACK to show for it except scorn and contempt from hockey-lovers. Hardly a motivating proposition for Montrealers, Fabby.
As for Detroit City. Do you know on which team Detroit City based their method for success? The Mtl Canadiens, sooooo, scientifically-speaking, if ONE piece of contrary evidence disrupts your “theory”; you must abandon the theory. There will be no LOSER tanking strategy with the Mtl Canadiens, Fabby. Ever. Accept it. Ok? Good.
New, here’s the thing about your point I’m still putting together: are you anxious for Molson to come in so he can institute this “new” legacy of LOSING so that we may one day win?
Merry XMas and Happy Holidays to all.
Enjoy your family, friends, and well-earned time off.
May 2011 bring you heaps o’ SubBANG!
Maybe, maybe not…
I think that if guys like Oshie, Perron and MCdonald were healthy, they’d be eating up PP minutes like crazy. Alot of points in this league come from the PP, and Dags has been used on it alot this year.
It’s debateable, who knows.

go deeper my friend…
Even great rookies could use a game in the pressbox here and there. Yesterday you were kind enough to mention the fantastic job that St. Louis does in developing rookies, and I agree. We had a bit of a disagreement regarding the status of David Perron, and I just wanted to re-affirm that he was, in fact, a healthy scratch a few times, as indicated in the final sentence of the notes in this game log:
Anyway, he’s turned into a fine player, and it seems those benchings served him well. Hopefully it pays off the same way with Subban.
Strange how controversial calls abound in games featuring Chris Lee?

1st star: Henri Richard
2nd Star: Doug Harvey
3rd Star: Jacques Plante

So what you’re saying is that the Habs haven’t won the Cup in ages because of the fans?

just did enjoy
Yea, I’ve seen a couple of Blues games…
He’s had his share of invisible games, but for the most part he’s playing some good, solid hockey.
And I’m happy for him. Sometimes players just don’t fit in a certain organisation for a variety of reasons. It could be timing, injuries, established veterans, coaches, etc… There are too many to list.
But in STL it seems like he’s taking full advantage of their key injuries, and has confidence in his game. If he was still with us this year, I’m not sure he would have had that same impact. Like I said above, sometimes some guys work better in certain places than others.
Look at Eric Cole in CAR. We saw last night how good this guy can still be. Yet 2 years ago in EDM everyone thaught he was old, finished and that injuries had caught up to him. But he’s still doing fine. Look at McCaruthur in TOR, but yet in BUF he didn’t even have a chance, nor did he in his breif time in ATL.
So many examples. And in the end, you can’t hate your team for trading those players enjoying success elsewhere. You gotta understand it’s part of the game, and be happy that they’ve found a way to succeed in this very, very tough league.

Uhhh, no, Fabby, those aren’t the rules. Please check the rules. Rules say it’s not up to US to slog through comments to find your “thoughtful” point; it’s up to you to make it again when you don’t get a reply.
So what was it?
Cut and paste. Nobody is going to go back.
Sorry. You did.
After Williams speared Koivu in the eye and Staal kneed Markov, it’s about time one of the Canes attempts to injure a Hab FINALLY got called. If he disagrees with this particular call, then he should consider it a collective call against all the previously uncalled infractions the Canes have gotten away with.
That or he should go back to full-time crying about Zambonis (remember shootoutgate when he was with the Leafs?)
ok bugs, i thought about your reply, and since i’m in a good mood and care enough (i’m not a fanatic, ie: eat sleep drink habs, i’m more of a habs watcher/reader as much as i can due to my employment/familiy obligations. this is because i was born in a habs loving familiy. i take it to a certain extent, but they still have a place in my heart) about our beloved team, i’ll recap (my last post):
here is the jist of what i was trying to explain yesterday and today… You know my opinon on JM and how he is treating PK (which, by the way, could be good or bad, we don’t know yet, we’ll see in the next 2-3 years…). this is now leading up to this concerning our “system” and my thoughts in general about our team, in the past 5-10 years, but mostly, post cap era.
I understand the fact
that the NHL will have winners and losers, actually much more losers than
winners. 1 cup a year that’s it. The word dynasty no longer applies to the
current post lockout era, and with the number of teams there, plus more coming
(god I hope in Canada, they are viable). By the way, who can fire Bettman? How
is a commissioner appointed? He needs to go, and a major changed needs to
happen. The “US hot weather” city’s expansion experiment of his over
that last 2 decades hasn’t work, get over it. But that’s a story for another
Back to my point. You will notice in the past 5-10 years, that no matter
what the attendance, teams who starts losing for 2-3-4 years, start drafting
better players, develop them well, coach them well, bring them up when they are
ready, and are helped along the way, become good/great teams. For example, you
can use Pittsburgh, Washington, Tampa Bay (they did win a cup, and now on their
way back thanks to captain Y, etc…). That’s how a plan can be implemented
over a ~ 3-5 years. This is true with every team in the NHL, except for
Montreal (and Toronto for that matter, I doubt they’ll win a cup in the next
3-4 years, which is a foresable future based on who they have hired
(coach/gm/rest of the team)). The reason you might ask? No where in the NHL
will you find such an amount of die hard fans and media, who seem to have the
capability to demand something (see my last post: French Media. Fans can’t
demand anything cause they are not heard unless they are a member of the press
that writes such articles). We all cry scream hate love, etc when something
goes bad. I am not doing this here. I am making a bonafide comment on our team,
in general and not talking about this season or any other (other than JM!!!).
Now there are certain exceptions to the picture of the NHL I just painted.
See Detroit, who has been a good/great team over the past 20 years. Can anyone
look this up? How many times since they started their “dynasty” have
they missed the playoffs? I bet you can count then in less than 5 fingers (hey
shit does happen sometimes). But they have continued to win (not cups) but
their division/conference. It takes a lot to constantly win the cup in this
era, they have what it takes, but there is no way due to the 30 teams we have
in our great league.
As for our team, I doubt we’ll see any cup finals in the near future (5-10
years) unless of a “miracle”. Hey it can happen to any team that
makes the playoffs. I just don’t see it. Do you? Does anyone? Please help me
here, am I wrong? I would love to get replies from the editors of our great
site (thanks guys it’s awesome).
My only thought of this possibility of breaking through this “non
contender” team, is the move of Molson to become President of this
team/owner. God we need new blood up there. They are the ones that can make it
happen. This team will be profitable (unless of a major $CDN crash) no matter
what is on the ice.
Do you think something of this great magnitude of change can/will happen?
Anyone? otherwise, I see no great future. We may end up winning #25 in
the next 10 years. Who knows.
Thanks for reading and replies.
I’d like to take some time to wish you all Happy Hollidays….
I’ve been missing from this site for about 2 months now, due to a new position at my company and tons of training, studying and government exams. I’m usually one of those who hangs around here all day and comments on everything, so it was difficult to not post. But don’t worry, I still read the comments on my iphone while I was driving everyday, lol..
Anyways, I didn’t forget about the friendships I have with many of you here.
So once again, have a Happy Hollidays, and safe one’s too.
And if you happen to drink some J Daniels during the hollidays, think of me. And if that hot girl you’re drinking Jack Daniels with is willing to “you know what”, please don’t think of me…
Think of her, and only her. Or someone better looking than her..
Anyways, have a great one!!
Subtlety is the key, mate.
Watching Dagger play in St.Louis has impressed me. Skates hard, aggressive to the net, shoots often, and scoring.
No but he’s looked really good with Schenn and Schwartz on the first line. (I was at the game)
Now tell us how you really feel about him Chuck.
I love how people evaluate other players and teams, but yet haven’t watched them play.
So many people come here and comment on other teams, their players and their potential, etc…Yet so few actually watch other teams apart from the Habs. Or, they’ll watch another team play once and base their opinion on that one single game.
I for one watch a ton of games. I watch the Habs most because they’re my team, but I’ve seen every other team play at least 5 times each. And to be honest, it’s still not enough. You can’t base the opposition on a sample of 5 games, it doesn’t indicate team trends and overall evaluation.
And I’ve seen OB play 4 times with COL since the trade. He’s had 1 solid game, 2 OK games, and 1 awful game. I remember about 2 weeks ago, he played so terrible. He was giving the puck away, creating turnovers, and playing like the OB we saw so many times. That was one game out of the 4, maybe he’s been like that more often.
The only thing I can say about OB is that he doesn’t fit his frame. COL is a team that’s been hammerd with injuries this year, so he’s lucky a team needed him. But when they wanna fill out their d, I’m not sure if he will fit. With his size, he has to hit and be a physical/nasty defenseman. And Ihaven’t seen him do it once. He’s got limited talent, so being rough is his role.
Wait until next year, and see if he’s still on that roster. It might surprise you.
Ya, I hear we are trading Subban to Colorado for O’Byrne.
Exactly. He’s got to learn what he can and can’t get away with in the NHL and unlearn what he used to be able to get away with in the OHL. He’s a rookie defenceman making rookie defenceman mistakes. He’s trying to do too much and he’s being reigned in because it’s hurting his team in the process.
He’s got a lot of talent, but he’s not bigger than the game or the organization he’s with. He’s going to have his chances to sit in the pressbox like anyone else did when they were rookies coming into the league. He’s going to learn from his mistakes, watch a few games, make new mistakes, learn from those, watch a few more games and so forth.
Why everyone’s freaking out over the rook getting a couple of games in the pressbox that he’s earned is beyond me. When you come off of a trip to the pressbox and go -3 in a 3-2 loss to the Leafs, then -2 and -2 in a pair of other losses all within the 5 games of your return, that the team goes 1-4 in….. it’s automatic that you’re going to get another chance to sit and watch some games. The same people griping are the same ones that griped loudest about Price getting special treatment in their eyes and the same ones that will turn around in 2 yrs and say PK was rushed too fast if he isn’t handled properly.
Then how is it a bad thing? This is a GREAT thing. I am also glad that our defence isnt like theirs. ALSO do you remember Mike Komisarek? LOOKED AWESOME playing with Markov. AWESOME ENOUGH TO OFFER FOUR MILLION… Thank you God for making Mike greedy. Cause look at how that turned out.
Same thing with Lats, Ryder, Souray, SK, Streit, Dags, Moore, etc etc etc. A habs trade or former player does well for a little while in another city, and immediately the current management OBVIOUSLY mishandled him.
OR maybe its because the Av’s Defence is ranked in the bottom five of the league, and ours is top 5. I like O’Byrne, I hoped he would make it here but he didn’t. Always taking a useless unforced penalty, and scoring in our own net. He will be a good Defensive player eventually. WE JUST COULDN’T WAIT…. I want to win a Cup this year too…
There may be other teams, but only ONE Club De Hockey…
Thats pretty awesome for Colorado.
We love Georges in MTL. Dumb trade for SJ…
We love Gionta in MTL. Dumb that NJ signed Rolston (now on waivers) instead of Gionta…
In the sporting business, you’re gonna win some and lose some.
But don’t come here and analyze that OB trade just yet. Don’t act like you know everything and that COL already won that trade. The player we got in return hasn’t even played pro hockey yet. So give it time and evaluate the deal once both players involved in that trade have established themselves and become full-time NHL’ers.
You sound like a rookie yourself.
well they are liking OB a lot in Av land
Awesome analysis and arguments Zak, let me just start a petition for you to be the Habs General manager.
well, yeah, practice too…
They love OB in Colorado.Dumb trade.
You have to hand it to Boston though, it takes a special kind of team to be sore winners/
– I shall always remember Captain Koivu. Habs and Hockey.
So we are NOT talking about PK Subban (a rookie)??? So who ARE you talking about?
Mr C has spoken. Legalize SP’s !!
Who’s just talking about rookies?
sorry, i don’t post often… but i put a lot of thought into my posts now that i have the time to do so. Thank god for christmas and all other holidays, they bring you back. So now that i want some feedback on my thoughtful posts, search me up they are rare. i want input. am i right? wrong? well, i know what you think and gotta say, i disagree with you 95% of the time, i was talking to the other posters…is that so bad?
