Thanks dude. I thought he had a pretty decent game yesterday, though he does tend to have some brain cramps that lead to give-aways. I found out yesterday the guy is 6-3, 215lb’s. Man I wish he’d play a little meaner and tougher with that big frame.
Colorado can sign Forsberg without his having to clear waivers. All players under contract, however, are subject to waivers if they spend longer than 14 days in the AHL on a consensual conditioning stint. As you pointed out, that is not likely to happen with Forsberg.
Nabokov did not go through the AHL either, but was subject to detailed waiver rules due to having played in Europe this season.
Picard was one of our best players yesterday and he also saved the game in the last minute.
He may not be part of our long term plans, but he answered the call after having not played for weeks on end. He’s a spare part - nothing more, nothing less, and should be judged accordingly.
Whoa…bit harsh on the guy. He’s not top D man but he was never touted as such. As filler he’s fine for now. And there’s nobody else who can do it at this momnet so we have to live with it. Would you rather have MAB? Breeze?
Breezer, yes I actually would, although obviously not now because he’s retired. MAB… probably not, but then again he brings about 5 times the offensive presence Picard brings with only mildly worse defense, so who knows. Every time Picard was on the ice last game the whole team started to panic, it was palpable how terrible he was.
You know what’s driving me nuts? How everyone is jumping on this Russian guy from the KHL having a harder shot than Chara. It’s bull. Look at the videos, and you will see that the NHL guys shoot from the high slot, while the KHL guys shoot from the low slot. The KHL guys are at least 5 feet closer to the net. /rant
i noticed that too… interesting game so far, both the pens offence and ovechkin have been less than average. two teams that may be in trouble in the playoffs again this year. crosby is bound to come back, but without malkin, i don’t think they’ll go very deep
There is no way that Chara would get off a shot in a game over 90 mph yet alone 105mph. In the skills comp they skate in 15 ft and blast it. In a game it would be a one timer or moving 1-2 feet.
im pretty sure if you started naming western teams to NBC guys, they would look at you with a blank stare, and then a look of confusion. no ovechkin or crosby, no way those teams exsist!!
NBC does that all the time for the superstars, that is, to say, those the league deems superstars. No ne to compare to on PIT now, but often it is used as a comparison of one against the other.
Crosby, Pronger, Gaborik, Lidstrom, Toews all get the same treatment.
Nothing could be sweeter then a Super Bowl weekend sweep. Well, a Packers win would actually make it even better. Aaron Rodgers will rip the Steelers secondary to shreds! GO PACK!
My two favorite teams playing each other. Looks like I will have to have a drink in each hand. I hope for an entertaining game to the final whistle. Do not care who wins, as long as the Hab’s do today.
I keep hearing people say that, but I really don’t think a defense like the Steelers has is gonna get ripped to shreds. Depends on if Polamalu is %100 I guess.
Going to be a tough game. The only team that’s been better than the Habs the last while have been the Devils, and Christ knows Brodeur likes toying with the boys at the worst of times anyway. Habs shouldn’t be too tired after the game yesterday though, they didn’t really lean on key guys too much, so they all ought to be fairly fresh considering. Going to take a very good effort today to walk away with two points, but it’s certainly very doable. They’re a big two points and the boys know it.
Sergei wouldn’t likely put up those numbers here anyway. He isn’t going to be leaned on as much by this team for offense.
Good to see the kid succeed though. He always had the talent; he just needed his head screwed on, and a foot up his arse. Glad to see that’s happening for him down in Nashville. I don’t mind much when it comes to missing out on his talent for no real return, he was an addition by subtraction in the first place, and Frosty stood a better chance hanging out in Hell for a few hours than Sergei did of putting those numbers up in Montreal. Sometimes a change of environment is all you need to really straighten up.
Completely disagree, as I wrote to you on the ALN thread. He was a train wreck yesterday and one blocked shot from the blueline that Price likely would have stopped doesn’t afford him “player of the game” status when he made at least 30 horrendous plays. He’s a disaster with the puck and a catastrophe defending someone else who has it. Every shift he played yesterday was highlighted by Weber covering his ass in our zone and the Rangers maintaining possession for his entire shift because he continually lost puck battles, made horrendous turnovers and failed to clear the puck. Had Price and Weber not had great games it would have been a loss solely due to Picard’s incompetence.
I would take a super “About Last Night” tomorrow morning over a rushed “Quick Hits” today so Boone should just cancel it. HOWEVER, tomorrows ‘About Last Night’ has to be epic and uber insightful-moreso than it already is, of course.
Congrats to that, Chris, and enjoy it! I remember my first game with my daughter like it was yesterday. Almost 2 years old now, and we watch together all the time. She’s even learned to applaud when the Habs score

He already has the draft of today’s QH on his laptop. He’ll just fill in the blanks and post it. Nobody will notice because we’ll all be 6 deep and scarfing down chilly before the kickoff. Smart journalism is all about being prepared. And well lubricated.
Edit…hmmm, that last sentence didn’t exactly look right…
It’s going to be a very short timeline between the end of the hockey game and the Super Bowl. Seeing that Mike Boone is a huge Steeler fan, I would suggest that MB cancel his “Quick Hits” segment and just post an “About Last Night” tomorrow morning. That way he can enjoy the football game like the rest of us.
Congrats! I have four daughters (from age 32 to 20). I always remember my grandfather saying, “A son is a son till he takes a wife. A daughter’s your daughter the rest of your life.”
Would be great if one of the kids scored the game winner in what will probably be another tight contest. Love their energy. Damn, 2 pts today would look real good. We’re movin up!
Would he not be subjected to the same process as Emery, if/when he is signed, though? If he goes to the AHL for conditioning and stays past the 14 day limit he would have to pass through them, however I doubt he will go to Lake Erie as he has been skating with the team.
Agreed. Another ex Hab showing the drafting prowess of this team. Still need to do a slightly better job developing our assets though. Otherwise we often garner less return on outgoing talent (SK, Grabovski).
I follow the MN Wild closely as surrounded by Wild fans at work. The change of enviroment for Pouliot and Lats (at least last year) brought out the best in both. Perhaps PG could work a similar deal with the Wild for James Sheppard when he returns next season. Sheppard was the 9th overall pick of the Wild in 2006. Unfortunately for the Wild, he has not yet lived up to expectations and then subsequently injured in an ATV accident before the start of this season. He likely has blown the opportunity for a lengthy career with the Wild. Although the Habs now have a number of Centres in the system, we know the Habs could always use another 6’2″ 215 lb centre with the skills that made Sheppard a top ten pick. Although Sheppard was often in Lemaire’s doghouse at first, he did eventually learn both ends of the ice and we know that is the winning model in JM’s Habville. I’m no PG and not suggesting the makeup of a specific deal, just extending on your original statement on how change of environment is the ticket to success for some hockey players.
Don’t get excited boys that one goal will not make any difference. NJ will keep coming, refs will keep us down and we Hab’s will not have enuff in the tank.
Can’t believe how many people here just give up when the going gets rough. Not talking about the critics. They add something to the discussion. Talking about the band wagon jumpers, the fair weather fans, those who simply say “it’s over” after a period or two, the ones who call for pulling Price and letting Auld play it out because we’re not going to win. Grow some nads you wimps.
Hmm…Subban chirping Kovalchuk. That should be an interesting discussion! Kovalchuk can hold his own in that department, as Sidney Crosby found out years ago.
9 of the 12 least penalized teams in the NHL are either in playoff positions or near them, so that’s not true either. There will always be anomolies like Toronto, who likely receive fewer penalties because they allow so many poweplay goals that they’re out of games early and the refs hold their whistles.
However a team like Montreal, who’ve dominated puck possession and scoring chances all season, attack with speed of the rush and have a plethora of small, shifty players, should draw more penalties. There’s no logical reason for the Canadiens taking so many more penalties than other good teams and drawing so few. They aren’t any less disciplined than any other team I’ve watched so far this year, and yet we get called for an inordinant amoung of our fouls, and don’t get the call on an inordinant amount of our opponent’s fouls.
They are out of the play offs and we will be in the play offs.
Wed. night is another story, we had better be ready. And we will. By the end of the regular season we will be in first in our division. Piece of cake.!
If you look at the stats for the league though this season, a lower penalty total generally correlate with a team that is lower in the standings. A possible explanation for this is artificially induced parity brought on by referee assignments meant to prop up weak teams.
For the other years I wonder what their rank in power plays was. Cause knowing the refereeing in the NHL, refs try to balance the penalties even if it is not deserved. I hazard that because the Devils themselves don’t draw many penalties, their own number of times shorthanded is reduced as well.
The numbers that Andrew posted show that the Devils aren’t heavily penalized, which furthers his assertion that Lou’s association with the NHL is somewhat incestuous.
Good, just very busy. As I’ve said many times before, the NHL is a glorified house league. You play 82 games to eliminate 13 teams and the Maple Leafs. Just get to the playoffs healthy and with some momentum and anything can happen.
Calling me Dean, Priceberg etc is getting old. You & your sidekick Habsoloutly prove that I am who you say I am without your crappy detective work. Go to Boone and have his excellent IT guys to check into it.
Excuses excuses….look you and everybody else can whine all day long but the theme is WINNING and as long as that’s the goal it’s the job of the Habs to do what ever it takes to win ….Heck it works for other teams .This game show us that we need changes and more effort form the players. The fact that it been 19 years since a finals says’s plenty….Again the goal is to win and then Grab the Stanley every year other wise your pretending to give a shite.
If Ruff can blow his top and get favourable results, then so can JM. He’s not some rookie coach with no history in the league, he’s in the top ten for coaching wins, and is well-respected in the NHL. His word should have some weight, and really, how much worse can things get? The Devils got called for ONE penalty. It’s not like they can call negative penalties, and give them 6 on 5′s or anything.
The biggest problem is the expansion to the two ref system. It necessitated a ton of refs who weren’t ready for the NHL game to be brought in too early, just like rookie players. In 10 years or so this problem will HOPEFULLY be remedied, but you still have the problem of two refs officiating the same game and not calling it the same way. It happens all the time, and the NHL has no punishment other than extended vacations for terrible officials. Not to mention to speak ill of officials brings with it a massive fine.
I agree. The Devils are heavily penalized and rightly so. The Habs numbers are the ones that don’t add up as you said. I’m just saying that the Devils are generally officiated fairly outside of their games against teams such as Montreal, who is always getting screwed.
And look at where the teams are in the standings. The Devils were THE WORST team in the NHL for the first 40 games of the season, and yet we have a worse differential than them. This defies all logic. And you’re looking at the only year the Devils have had a bad team since the lockout, look at previous years.
New Jersey has taken the second fewest minor penalties in the entire NHL at 179, Montreal has taken 236.
Last year NJ was the least penalized team in the NHL with 264 minor penalties.
2008-09 NJ took the 10th least minors.
2007-08 NJ took the 4th least.
2006-07 NJ took the least again.
2005-06 NJ took the least AGAIN.
In the year where penalties were introduced SPECIFICALLY to take down the defensive system of the New Jersey Devils and those that emulated them, NJ was penalized less than any other team in a 30 team league. That’s a level of ridiculousness that should not exist in a league of “parity”.
It’s a no-win situation. I agree it would feel good for Martin to blast the refs as they so richly deserve and yes he can afford the fine. But the problem is how these A-holes would treat the Habs following that. I am sure things as bad as things are right now they would only get worse — if that is even possible.
But based on the style of their game, the Devils should be a heavily penalized team. The Habs, on the other hand, play a style of game that is conducive to drawing penalties, although they never seem to get called.
Yep. When the discussion of expansion/contraction comes up, most focus on the quality of players available. No one ever examines the quality of officiating in a diluted and over-extended league.
It seems that we can count on two things; First, that the Habs will never get the benefit of favorable reffing. Second, that no one in the Habs organization will ever say anything about it.
I refuse to accept that Jacques Martin can’t afford the $50000 fine that would result from absolutely going off on the officiating in a post-game interview, or that Geoff Molson doesn’t see what so many here seem able to.
That being said, the Habs always get jobbed against the devils. It seems that the Habs, having one of the worst differentials in the league still get screwed against teams that should have high penalty totals.
Over the previous two days you’ve done nothing but rag on Eller. Completely baselessly at that. You’re certainly entitled to your opinions and suspicions, but really, we’d all be better off if you played them much closer to the vest.
Yikes! A couple of shots across the bow! Battle stations!
An ‘incorrect opinion’. Hmm. Sounds suspect. Like, for instance, “I like chocolate.” WRONG!! Incorrect! You do not. I see what you’re saying.
Insults. I don’t insult people in my posts. I may employ sarcasm to highlight shortcomings in the posts of people who are foolishly aggressive, but insults? I leave that to the sandbox crew (of which I now suspect you are a part).
I would like to be proven incorrect about Eller. I really would. i just haven’t been satisfied with his play for the reasons I outlined above.
Considering the ridiculously stupid scheduling by the NHL, getting 6/8 points in 2 back to backs, in 6 days isn’t something to complain about. The problem is the way this one went down that’s so unpalatable.
New Jersey was supposed to be the team most effective by the abolishing of clutch and grab hockey, yet since the lockout they’re one of the least penalized teams in the NHL, if not THE least penalized. Considering what we see every time we play the Devils, this isn’t because of some genius defensive scheme cooked up by the Devil’s coaching staff that no longer depends on clutching and grabbing, but because the Devils are just allowed to get away with it. There’s no doubt that Lamoriello’s influence on the NHL has more to do with this than anything else, as NJ is not and has never been a big hockey market, or tv market. It is a disgrace to the NHL that this team is continually allowed to bore people to sleep with this garbage hockey, protecting leads by committing hundreds of fouls throughout the game.
Those who continue to insist that officiating “evens out” over the course of a season obviously haven’t looked at the raw numbers. For 3 straight years now the Canadiens have been amongst the most penalized teams in the NHL, while receiving amongst the fewest powerplays. For a team that has the 6th most wins in the league, that’s a statistical anomaly that should not exist. Talk about discipline all you want, but this has nothing to do with discipline and everything to do with egregious incompetence on the part of the NHL and more specifically the NHLOA and its members.
The fine may come if reporters can get Gomez to say something publicly. You can bet, though, Gomez wasn’t explaining to the refs on the ice the excellent features of his new boat.
I assumed that people would be able to figure it out for themselves.
Eller has one more point than Weber has in 24 games. He falls over a lot. He has poor decision-making abilities. He seems overwhelmed by the pace of the game.
If it had been the Habs protecting a lead and played the same way the Devils did for that third period, we would have been looking at double-digit penalty minutes, with a couple of 5 on 3′s thrown in. It’s total crap that they can play that way, and take only one penalty the entire game.
You know you got 3 Def out and our top scorer. We got Hamr, Spach and Gill now as our big D. Plus they played yesterday afternoon.
NJ is on a high right now, and we were incredibly unlucky. He had a decent amount of chances. To be quite honest we are doing very well considering.
If you want to blame someone for the first shift, Price is the guy. He should have saved that. Maybe the D’s who took 3 chances to get it to Gill who turned it over.
Down 2-0 JM made some changes and it went 1-1 for the rest of the game. With 3-4 chances we should have scored on.
Skeleton crew and they can’t kill themselves in back to back games. We will get deeper into injuries that way.
There may be other teams, but only ONE Club De Hockey…
Well well.. it looked like they couldnt keep the puck on their sticks for the longest time except in the third. Devils were first on the puck all the time, and habs kept leaving the puck go by them along the boards, or making passes, where there wouldn’t be anyone. I think they were tired, and hopefully they’ll be better next game.
As for JM, i won’t be to harsh since he managed to turn his team around in the third by I have this to say: What happened with 3 minutes to go ? Habs were really dominating their zone and i was surprised to see that Price was still in net.. Then the play got called at 2 minutes.. They got back in the zone but couldn’t settle probably. Seriously ? they were down 3-1 why not take out the goalie with 3 minutes when you’re owning their zone ?!
A game against against the Devils is like going back in time to the pre-lockout NHL. The Devils got away with alot and it’s just not the type of hockey I like watching. It’s the lowest form of hockey even though it is effective for the team you want to have.
PK Subban a star??? Come on. A lucky goal and -2. I don’t think so.
Blame Jack Martin for this game. The team wasn’t ready to play, and it’s his job to make sure they are. This team is so vanilla. Yes they are fast, and somewhat talented, but they don’t play with any edge whatsoever, and that isn’t going win them games in the post-season. Pyatt and Moen are great on the PK, but that’s where it ends. No big hits, no team toughness that you expect from 3rd/4th line players, and it’s ineffective. Against a team like NJ, at home, the first shift should set the tone, but with JM’s team, it’s a big snorefest. Disappointing.
The Habs started slow, but dominated the second half of the game. Lots of non-calls in the 3rd, even two obvious infractions on Pouliot a few seconds apart. Not to mention, the first Devil’s goal was penalty on Zubrus. Chalk up another win for the zebras. Not the Habs best game, but they deserved and would have got a better outcome in a fairly officiated game.
bad bounces .. that’s what this game was decided by..
either gionta couldn’t lift the puck high enough and when he did he shot it over the net
pouliot misses an empty net.. so many oppurtunities..
and one guy who im getting really annoyed by is moen… 0 hands… for a big guy he always loses the battles along the boards.. can’t accept a pass that’s a little off.. and he is not vey physical.. no team goes “oh sh!t moen is out there”
reffing.. well what can you expect.. it’s a joke.. has been for several years now
Are there Any repercussions for arrogant refs who decide it’s more important to send a message (whether valid or not) to “impertinent” members of certain teams, rather than to call an honest game?
I’d feel better if you were to avoid posting such blatantly incorrect opinions in such a matter-of-fact way. I’d feel heavenly if you could even manage to formulate an opinion without lacing it with insults, or maybe even just realize how wrong you are if I were lucky on that given day.
I’m surprised I haven’t seen this yet, but seriously: anyone else think the refs wanted to be well planted when the football starts? And maybe the team should have been prepared for that?
Habs weren’t angels, Canadiens should’ve been called for two high sticks and a Hal Gill trip, and I was distracted by a laptop, maybe there were more. (Not that I don’t think NJ did more than that, but you all saw those).
You know, as far as losses go, I think the Habs battle hard in the 2nd and 3rd, and with a few bounces going the other way this could have been ours. Can’t win’em all.
I thought that this forum was all about expressing your opinions!
If you don’t agree with me, at least have the decency to point out why, rather than just mocking what I’ve written. If you think that Eller is doing a great job, tell me. Say why!
I don’t think it has anything to do with the money that’s keeping JM from ripping the refs, but more of an honour code. It’s clear from his post game conferences that he doesn’t believe in luck or external forces like officiating deciding games, always insisting on special teams or goaltending or even strength play or other specifics needing to be improved. In a way he’s right, and I respect him a ton for being calm in the face of an emotional game, and I think in the long run it’s more effective to keep the onus on the coaching staff and the players in the locker room. That said however, blowing up once in awhile when you have a reputation for having such a calm demeanor could be HUGELY beneficial strategically, and I wish he would toss aside his honour code once in awhile for that purpose.
I never understood the rationale for moving to a two-referee system. I’ve read the NHL rulebook, and linesman do have the authority to assign certain kinds of penalties–yet they never do. It appears there is a long-standing informal custom that the referees have iron-control over calls. Whatever the problems that led to the NHL instituting a two-referee system, I would accept those problems with 15 competant rather than 30 middling referees.
I agree with what you are saying. But insults are a part of life. I say be tolerant, ignore and fight words with words. Censorship is not the answer. The only power they have is the power you give them.
There may be other teams, but only ONE Club De Hockey…
Your mission, PG, should you decide to accept it, is to go out and find our missing piece.
Our informants tell us that you may start in Calgary where he may be operating under the august name of Iginla and where he has established himself as a leader, points producer and impact player non-pareil.
If he eludes you there then go to Ottawa.
He may be working in a rundown operation under the duo of Cris Neil and Chris Phillips. Note if you take one you must take the other.
If he eludes you in Ottawa then go to Columbus and search for one Antoine Vermette.
You are or course free to expand your search. But remember the particulars which you seek. Ignore anyone under 6′ 200lbs, is a one dimensional player, or has not proven himself in several high intensity operations or cannot take hold of key moments of any operations and turn it into success.
If you fail, your team may self destruct in Philadelphia or Boston or NJ or similar.
Good luck to you PG. As usual we shall discard any credence in your ability should you fail.
I agree, it makes absolutely no sense. The irony of it too is that the Habs and Caps are teams that are supposed to thrive under the new NHL system. Fast and skilled teams should have the most powerplays. I could even understand if the penalties for both teams remained high as for the most part fast, skilled guys usually are a less prone to contact and use their sticks more often. It doesn’t get evened out though and that’s the problem.
At least last year the Habs were a bad even strength team, so there was an excuse for that disparity. This year is the complete opposite, yet the differential is basically the exact same.
The inconsistency of officiating between teams is a massive problem. The bottom line is, penalties are in the NHL to reward teams for playing the right way and being successful, and penalize teams for cheating. By the logic of what they exist to do, bad teams should take more penalties and draw fewer, because bad teams need to cheat to keep up with good teams. That logic isn’t represented in the NHL, and it’s infuriating to fans of good teams like the Canadiens or the Capitals, as both teams are getting screwed constantly this year.
Well, 7/15 least peanalized are out of the playoffs at the moment. Okay its a weak correlation so there has to be something else influencing it.
No doubt about the Habs having an unfair ratio judging by the style of play. My point was not that the Habs do not get screwed all the time, but that the Devils don’t get preferential treatment with respect to the league as a whole.
Clearly there is some kind of officiating bias against Montreal, just look at the numbers for last season where the pp/pk diff was -50. It may appear that NJ gets an unfair advantage against Montreal, but I think that is part of a larger trend of the anti-Hab bias instead of NJ getting a league wide adcantage.
What it comes down to for me, is what’s worse; a missed call or a phantom call? I would say a phantom call, so I’d rather one ref. But I can understand the rationale for wanting more eyes on the ice, especially with the obstruction rules coming into play post-lockout. I also wasn’t as old in the one referee system and didn’t watch near as much hockey as I do now, so I really can’t say definitively from my own experience that one system is worse than the other.
Need to keep stacking those NE Division points, half a season series left to go with BOS and we’ve got them 3-0 so far but the problem is they’re always stomping the Leafs and we’re behind the ball with TOR this season, BOS is getting points where we’re dropping them. Need to improve that with two games against the Loafs this month.
This is not the first time our team has been down 2-0.
Just a couple of games ago against Caps and Bruins, etc. So see u in 40 minutes before depression is allowed to commence.
The Habs were more than a little flat that period. But the missed holding call on Zubrus (which wasn’t one of the discretionary variety holding infractions like the one called on Pacioretty) set the tone for the game. I hope the Habs come back and win this one and shove it in the face of the HNIC crew.
Hey guys! I’m studying for an Organic 2, yes I have to do Organic 2 as well and not watching the game. On and off on the radio but I believe that Habs will win this one.
Auld should have started today if the Habs were just going to stand around and leave the goalie out to dry. No sense wasting a good performance by Price.
Well aftre that 3rd one Carey looked very disheartened. It doesn’t do any good to keep him in at this point.
Put Auld in give Carey the rest of the day off.
Joey, as much as I love Price, that first goal should have been an easy save. A poke check or keep his paddle on the ice. But crap happens right. But we can win this by chippin away at Marty . He’s one split from being out.
Plow right through it? Give it to Max and have him skate shoulder ready to throw a check. Have Subban go in, ready to slam. Throwing it in and then not even skate hard enough to get the puck? Why? It just comes right back out for a jersey rush.
Even worse is shooting at Marty from the blue line. WHY??? Unless theres a guy in front he stops it, passes out of the zone, attack failed.
You cannot expect to get through this team by dumping it in. It’s not happening.
Lemaire has more than proved he is the Man when it comes to Pro Hockey. And he has the rings to prove it! Just imagine if Bowman and Lemaire weren’t chased out of Montreal sooo long ago how much different things would have gone in the last 19 years and then throw in Robinson ….
I don’t get it either. I mean there are 30 other teams out there with pro coaches who should easily know how to beat the Habs… We truly are the luckiest team in the NHL… How in God’s name are you not coaching out there Timo???
There may be other teams, but only ONE Club De Hockey…
UNLUCKY. 2-0 down, but JM is smart and we will come out in the next 2 periods.
1st goal was a poor clear by Gill and the rest of the players, cause it took 3-4 times to even get it to Gill… That’s been a big problem for us, is clearing the puck away from the net.
2nd goal was pure luck. KovyII does a good job getting his stick to it, and getting to the spot, but no way was that a deserved or a planned play.
We are fine. We know what we are up against now, and its time to come in and make it happen. They are forechecking us really well and forcing us to make mistakes.
But JM wont take this lying down. The big question is do we have enough gas to get it done? We are playing on a skeleton crew as it is…..
EITHER WAY, I am pretty happy with or play of late, and couldn’t ask for more from this team right now.
There may be other teams, but only ONE Club De Hockey…
I really don’t understand how other teams don’t see it. It is so so so so so easy to play the Habs if you just clog the neutral zone. There is all there is to it.
Especially the last few months. Early on they were dead in the water but as of late they don’t quit and have made some impressive pushes after being down.
I hope so too. Kovalchuk is flying but Price looks a lot better than Brodeur did in my opinion. If we can get some net presence in the next 40 this game will turn around quickly.
Gill’s not having a graet game. He probably could use a break too. Although, being short on D as is, who’d play? Maybe JM should try one of the forwards on D… there are plenty of example where D plays up front, why not the other way around.
Just got in, I gather things are going pretty ugly. Even Kovalchuk scored. And the inevitable ex-hab, Zubrus. Marty F for his 1000th career chut-out against the Habs, do you think?
We need someone to step up, come out a lay a few good clean licks on a few Devils to get things going……… Oh I forgot…………we haven’t traded for that player yet.
Lemaire has 1 Cup, he left and Larry Robinson than Pat Burns won the 2nd and 3rd Cups in Devils History. That team was so unpopular their Cup Parades were held in a parking lot.
Actually Matt, the Devils rarely even sold out playoff games in their prime. They’re also the only team in modern NHL histrory to have a game not sold out in the Stanley Cup finals.
This team was not prepared to play out of the gate. We will come back, but it is a very bad habit.
Unless Martin sucks in the opposition in thinking that they have it in the bag.
Regarding football – is it me or do you never hear most canadians talk about the NFL until the superbowl? I don’t get it, do they not watch any games but this? I can’t imagine being interested in a sport but not watching it save for the superbowl.
Gill was held by Zubrus, no call and then the turnover. Mind you, CBC says the game is over now according to plastic hair Craig Simpson who looks like a Ken doll and has the f’n IQ to match. Over to RDS after two minutes.
The Devils might be below us in the standings but they are still a great team. I’m not sure what happened to them in the first half of the season, but I think we saw today they are really good. Every single player is fully committed. They never stop skating, working, blocking shots.
Poor sportsmanship!?!? Are you kidding me, I think its great that we have a player who actually tries to make the refs accountable to their terrible calls. I don’t think they’re against us personally or its some conspiracy, but there were some very bad non-calls an its great to have somebody chirp them about it. Poor sportsmanship on the ref for being so insecure about his play, won’t talk about it, just makes him leave…thats brutal.
Boone: it did hit the post but the rule on breakaways on an empty net is that if you commit an infraction (hooking, tripping, etc.) it’s an automatic goal.
Contrast the Devils and the Sens. Two teams that are out of it. The Sens know it and are barely trying. Not the Devils. They’re blocking shots, fighting for every puck. And they have no hope of making the playoffs.
Partly it’s because Lamoriello only picks those kinds of players. But it has to also be Lemaire’s doing.
(OK they also cheat a lot and know how to get away with it …)
Anyone else as tired of Moen as I am? Whatever he had last season is gone. I’d very much like to see him gone for draft picks and white or anyone brought up. He doens’t play much anyway.
In the Globe and Mail last weekend Roy MacGregor profiled Bettman. Did you know he attends Devils games incognito with his grandson and cheers as a fan?
So anyone is surprised the Devils have always gotten the benefit of the doubt from the officials? What a garbage franchise.
I completely disagree Dave. This game would be even if not a Habs win if it was called by 2011 rules and not 2004 rules. The BS hooking and holding NJ has gotten away with is an embarrassment to the game.
Anyways, I had low expectations for the game and in fact I only turned it on the last 10 minutes and from I saw… it’s one of those 1 out of 3 games where the Ref’s lack of consistency have decided the outcome the game.
If I’m the coach, I’m sending Moen, Patches, Eller, and Kostitsyn steaming into the corners after soft dump-ins. Soften up those Jersey D-men with bone-crunching hit after bone-crunching hit. Set our skill guys up for some success on the cycle.
Just got in. Shocked at 2 zip NJ.
You gotta figure against Martin F and Lemaire this game is over BUT the Habs have been surprisingly resilient.
Lets see if they got it in ‘em.
I see Caps won.
Habs badly outplayed yesterday and very lucky to escape with a win. Just like yesterday the Devils are easily able to keep the Habs hemmed in, the result of zero physicality on the part of the Canadiens D and back checking forwards.
You can only get away with this sort of play for so long.
With that stupid trap of Lemaire’s our best rushes may come while we’re killing a penalty. Watching Jersey hockey is better than watching paint dry – but not by much.
If I were a rich mean I would pay one of the Habs players an amount they would earn during their NHL career to break a stick over one of refs faces. If I were like Warren Buffett rich.
This is the kind of game where the non-calls are really going to hurt. We’re going to need PP’s to get scoring chances against their trap, and from early indications, we aren’t going to get PP’s.
Mine too HH. Larry Robinson signed his card for me when I was young. But both of them severed their relationship with the Montreal Canadiens a long time ago. They have been our opponents ever since.
Such bullshit that was unbelievable reffing.. They let some go both ways… The ones on Montreal weren’t weird ones off the play, they were right in the middle and usually on the person who himself had the puck… How do you even miss that unless you’re missing half a brain.
Despite that, the habs missed a lot of primo chances and if the bounces had worked out they game could have easily been tied.
TSN has been showing it in their highlights package all morning and referring to it as a blindside headshot. So, yes. Will there be any consequences for it? Doubtful.
Boyle is huge and Spacek was bent over, a deadly combination. Although I do not believe there was intent to hit Spacek’s head on the play, this was indeed a headshot and must be dealt with as such.
There is no room for exceptions to the rule if the NHL is sincere on protecting players from head injuries.
As 24 said below, you can’t see it on the original angle, but it is clear as day from another camera angle. Since the NHL has access to all these angle’s I really don’t understand how that cannot be singled out as either a headshot or for that new blinside rule. It’s depressing to watch these clowns running the NHL drag down what is such a great sport.
No question. But with this ridiculous “if someone doesn’t get injured it couldn’t possibly be a penalty” policy the NHL has we’ll see no action from the league.
You really can’t tell on the original video play, but you can clearly see it from the different (2nd) camera angle. Boyle elbows Spacek just as he’s going by him.
this year is a very important learning year for eller…at the beginning of the season the scoring expectations on eller were way too high by most posters who predicted how many goals each hab will score…prior to this year in 5 seasons of hockey eller had a combined 69 goals…right now eller looks like he can become a very solid 3rd line centre who can be a 15 goal 25 assist type player…anything more will be a bonus…it is common to have players in the nhl who had very high scoring stats prior to the nhl but become average or below average producers in the nhl but the opposite to this is very rare…
The Devils are no more boring than your boys in bleu, blanc, et rouge. Which is to say that they aren’t boring. Just because you can’t appreciate a stellar defensive system, doesn’t mean it’s boring. There was a lot of wide open hockey and ice to be had.
You know what should have been an automatic goal? Gomez being checked from behind into the net while the puck was behind Hedburg. However, let two imbeciles have their way to interpret things their way…
I still can’t believe that the Devils didn’t get a 5-minute major for the high stick against Hamrlik. Do the refs think that these guys just bleed spontaneously?
How in the world is Gomez our best player? Here’s a hint for you hockey rookies: highest paid does not always equal best player (unfortunately). But you knew that already and you’re just trolling. Good job!
Ummm…. i think thats a goal. The puck was on hedbergs back and he backed into his net. Which probably means they won’t count it. Actually after the other angle,no goal.
So isnt’ this a type of game where you best player (aka Gomez) has to step up and pull the team on his shoulders? It just seems like that kind of the game to me.
I do not like Cherry much and I despise Milbury, but the two of them were right on the Ference thing. You don’t burn your teammates in public. You want to tell him to cut that nonsense out? Go ahead, to his face. Don’t blab to the media like a little twit.
Also whats his face that was arguing with Milbury yesterday on the hotstove- forgive me for not remembering his name – is a liitle sh*t. I hate his grin and his arrogant “I know everything” attitude. I guess the perfect partnet to argue with Milbury, but when Milbury is right it’s painful to watch this little d-bag try to argue.
Absolutely. It’s Paille who looks like a total coward. He had an opportunity to save face–to say, “Andrew’s absolutely right; I lost my head, in the heat of the moment; bad hit.”
Especially considering “poor Paille” is only suspended 4 games for the most obvious blindside elbow of the season. If the NHL actually cared about reducing concussions, that should have been a statement suspension, 15+ games.
I agree. Really don’t like Cherry or Milbury, but they’re right.
The reporters name is Eric Francis. Of course he would think it;s great because it gives him something to write about if players talk. But, for him to think it’s right in the big picture is foolish on his part.
I don’t agree with Ron about the whole “poor Paille” deal, but I do agree with his stance on Ference’s comments. A player must always stand by his teammate publicly. Off the record, Ference could go at Paille all he wants for his recklessness. On the record, however, these comments just end up as a divisive force.
we have seen this team now for 150 games and we know that it has problems scoring…we have 7 forwards in the line up who are not goal scorers.the next 2 pouliot and ak46 are streaky at putting the puck in the net…no suprise that we are one of the lowest scoring teams in the nhl for the past 2 years
Ron MacLean empathizing with Paille, saying he’s “hurt” right now and Ference is piling on. You know who deserves some empathy? Raymond Sawada who is actually hurt because of Paille’s reckless stupidity and intent to injure.
for those of you yelling about how selfish kovalchuk is..
3 yeras ago whent he world championship was being held in quebec city my brother (who was 12 at the time) and hsi friend went to one of the games with my dad.
this was after the game kovalchuk was suspeneded for fighting the swedish guy who took out Russia’s captain.
so i assume he wasn’t in the best of moods.
my brothers friends squeeked through the security fence (this kid is tinnny) when he saw kovalchuk and ran up to him..
instead of shruggin the kid off kovalchuk went with my brothers friend to my dad and my brother..
he moved the security gate and took a picture with both my brother and his brother’s friend.
Probably because he is a pompous, one dimensionsal, greedy, jerk that made a spectacle of a contract signing for the entire summer. Just a guess though.
Gomez is a good player, I have no problem with his game anymore, he does what he does, He is just WAY OVER PAID. We can’t change that so I stopped getting on him.
Okay, well I don’t like the odds of scoring two in the third against a Lemaire team. So I will settle for seeing the Habs demonstrate that they can at least use their speed and a little grit and break through the checking. Let’s say they don’t get outshot 14-5 in the period while trailing at home, I’d settle for that.
Why did JM put our 4th line out there when we had an O-zone faceoff and only 26 sec. left in the period? Seems to me like that would be a no-brainer to put either the Gomez or Pleks line on the ice. I’m not anti-JM or anything, but just thought that was a poor decision.
I’m off to a Super Bowl party but I just have to say how impressed I’ve been with Scott Gomez today. He sure came to play and in many ways has been our best player.
Sure would like a mulligan on the first five minutes. It’s been a close game ever since.
I think shipping Eller down to the Hammer when Cammy comes back would be a good move.
He offers very little to the team at the moment. He works awfully hard, but falls down a hellofalot, and never seems to know what to do with the puck when he gets it.
His lack of confidence and fumbling caused that 2-on-1.
I just can’t believe what the Devils are getting away with in this game. They are playing pre-lockout hockey at this point and the refs seem to turning a collective blind eye towards it.
Mike – I believe that SK74 (14/16/30) scored twice last night – the winner plus an insurance goal (his 14th). That goal puts him one ahead of his brother in terms of goals and points:-)
Nashville beat Detroit 3-0 and are now just two points behind Montreal in the standings. What a franchise. The best GM-HC duo in the league on a shoestring budget.
I still think once cammy comes back we need to move ak46, he’s had ‘potential’ for how long now, 3-4 years. I think he can be a better player, but for some reason its not working for him here, time to move on…
I would have been happy with six points out of eight this week so we’re already there. It was really important to win yesterday because I fully expect Spacek, Hamrlik and Gill to be totally gased during the 2nd half of today’s game. Not trying to pull a Mike Boone jinx here, but we’re going to have to light up Brodeur early this afternoon if we stand a chance of winning.
BTW, I wish Clay Matthews could skate and be a Hab.
have to give credit to the team who play the system to a T. how long can the oldies keep it up before it comes back and haunts us..hammer/spatchs just are tough old farts..gotta love it. with 3.5m in cap space we should be buyers still need some help.
By the time the puck drops this place is going to smell of slow-cooking turkey chili. Might even do up a batch of wings for the Habs. I love Super Bowl Weekend.
The Devils are masters of the pick play. Rarely enough to get called for interference, but always enough to disrupt the player they’re interfering with.
The team came out and announced that Kristo wasn’t breaking any team rules, which would include underage drinking in this case. He apparently was walking across campus on an extremely cold night, took an uncleared, snowy shortcut and lost a shoe in the snow. He tried to get back to shelter as quickly as he could, but the damage was done.
What is with Danny Kristo? A report said he is in the hospital with frost bitten feet from walking at campus.
A report before that said he was in trouble with his team for underage drinking.
Do these two incidents have the same cause?
Last year he played well for the US national junior team and this year he was not with the team. His production as a forward is really slow this year. Was he not a very top prospect at one time?
Having a bit of a down year with some off-ice party issues I guess. I think the Canadiens will get him to HAM next season and make sure Cunneyworth straightens him out.
I wonder if there is any truth to the rumour that the only reason Lemaire went back behind the bench was because he had another year left on his contract. Did Lou say, help me out here, and earn your keep.
You got to buy a snowblower man. I just did last year, a second hand one for $300, and it is by far the best purchase I ever made. I used to hate getting a ton of snow, now I look forward to it. You won’t regret it.
I’m f***in exhausted! Just finished shovelling 20 tons of snow out of my driveway, the wet heavy stuff. Hope I don’t fall asleep during the game. Expecting a big game today. Time to catch Boston. GO HABS GO!!!
I find it hilarious that CBC thinks a guy that should have never advanced above the ECHL in his career is some sort of ground-breaking analyst on hockey.
Hockey Inside/Out encourages lively debate, but there is a zero-tolerance policy regarding racism, profanity and behaviour that we deem to be offensive.
We will, without warning, ban those who do not abide by this simple rule, so as to maximize the enjoyment of readers and participants of both sexes and all ages.
Thanks dude. I thought he had a pretty decent game yesterday, though he does tend to have some brain cramps that lead to give-aways. I found out yesterday the guy is 6-3, 215lb’s. Man I wish he’d play a little meaner and tougher with that big frame.
Whether Steelers win or lose he will be in no shape to write anything in the AM.
Many congratulations! (Multiple baby announcements here today!)
Congratulations sir!
- I shall always remember Captain Koivu. Habs and Hockey.
Tuesday AM.
***Subbang!!!***
Washington media is saying he’s not coming back into the game. Yikes.
Whoa…bit harsh on the guy. He’s not top D man but he was never touted as such. As filler he’s fine for now. And there’s nobody else who can do it at this momnet so we have to live with it. Would you rather have MAB? Breeze?
***Subbang!!!***
Looking forward to a wide open end-to-end barnburner today.
But seriously, score first or die.
Breezer, yes I actually would, although obviously not now because he’s retired. MAB… probably not, but then again he brings about 5 times the offensive presence Picard brings with only mildly worse defense, so who knows. Every time Picard was on the ice last game the whole team started to panic, it was palpable how terrible he was.
i think the injury is less sever then Gorges’s (but what do i know) but he for sure should sit that one out
what’s 2 points compared to one’s health
——————
GWG = game winning gionta!
Looks like they have 2 points wrapped up anyway. Pittsburgh is a shadow of a team without Crosby and Malkin. Even with Bylsma’s excellent coaching.
Congratulations! And best wishes!
“Hey Richard, two minutes for looking so good!”
ya, but he earned a few brownie points for feeding Avery a few right hands. =)
I would welcome Clarkson with open arms.
He’s only 27, so I’m not sure that NJ would let him go.
Signed for two more years at 2.6M which in this day and age isn’t that bad.
/rant
Maybe.
NJ has scored 37 goals in last 11 games. Habs scored 33 in last 11.
So… 3-3 a possibility with OT / shootout to determine a winner.
Home team wins.
somebody has got to shatter matt cooke’s knees and make sure this loser never plays in the nhl again
——————
GWG = game winning gionta!
Umm…why did NBC have an ovechkin shift counter? It was counting how long he was on the ice right below the period timer.
“Kovalchuk: Tell me how one of the most talented hockey players in the world is minus-26.”
Because talent and work ethic are too-often inversely correlated, Mr. Boone.
I’ve got the bat, meet you in PIT.
- I shall always remember Captain Koivu. Habs and Hockey.
What, you mean not suspending him for a long time means he’s still doing bad shit out there? QUEL SURPRISE!
The NHL is a joke for allowing him to continue this nonsense.
i noticed that too… interesting game so far, both the pens offence and ovechkin have been less than average. two teams that may be in trouble in the playoffs again this year. crosby is bound to come back, but without malkin, i don’t think they’ll go very deep
your friendly neighborhood Salted One
Does that matter? Do they measure the shot at greatest speed acheived or does the puck need to cross a certain point to measure speed?
OK–Bold Prediction time: Habs can’t win, today, without a powerplay goal. Either the ofer streak ends, or the winning streak.
There is no way that Chara would get off a shot in a game over 90 mph yet alone 105mph. In the skills comp they skate in 15 ft and blast it. In a game it would be a one timer or moving 1-2 feet.
Habs Passion unites us all
He should make another appointment with E. Kane for another facial massage.
Great interview between Mario Tremblay and Jacques Lemaire on RDS.
“Hey Richard, two minutes for looking so good!”
With Lemaire and Martin, this could turn into the ultimate snoozefest.
The law of averages says a Devils’ win. Habs’ law says we put two points in the bank…
Not often. Sometimes.
The Habs have to chase Marty “Never as good as Roy or will ever be” out of the net by the second period.
Habs Passion unites us all
im pretty sure if you started naming western teams to NBC guys, they would look at you with a blank stare, and then a look of confusion. no ovechkin or crosby, no way those teams exsist!!
your friendly neighborhood Salted One
Enjoy your day everybody.!
Interesting side-note:
SK and AK have the exact same points: 13-16-29.
Yeah, but who’s better in the room?
Can’t wait. Will be watching the game for the first time with my newborn daughter, who is 11 days old today.
Clara will be sporting he entire pink Habs outfit, which which also wore home from the Hospital.
She’s a big Boone fan (she was born with more hair than he has now!), but makes her poop face when i talk about Red Fisher or Jack Todd
As my people say: Mazel tov! There is nothing better than a daughter. Mine is 25, and she’s amazing.
Forsberg making his, what? 14th comeback to the NHL?
http://www.tsn.ca/nhl/story/?id=352749
People wonder why no one takes american hockey seriously. It’s literally the Ovi / Crosby show.
and this is how pittsburg woudl look like if they wern’t the laughing stock of the nhl for 5 years straight
——————
GWG = game winning gionta!
Gonna miss the first two periods, heading out to deliver a foster dog to an adopter (not going to miss this one, she doesn’t care for the Husky).
Wow, congratulations FHF. And welcome aboard Clara. FWIW, I make my poop face too when those names come up.
Had Price and Weber not had great games it would have been a loss solely due to Picard’s incompetence.
oooo sh!t …

I would take a super “About Last Night” tomorrow morning over a rushed “Quick Hits” today so Boone should just cancel it. HOWEVER, tomorrows ‘About Last Night’ has to be epic and uber insightful-moreso than it already is, of course.
Congrats to that, Chris, and enjoy it! I remember my first game with my daughter like it was yesterday. Almost 2 years old now, and we watch together all the time. She’s even learned to applaud when the Habs score

Would he have to clear waivers like Nobokov? If so, I wouldn’t mind the habs being the douchey team steals him.
He already has the draft of today’s QH on his laptop. He’ll just fill in the blanks and post it. Nobody will notice because we’ll all be 6 deep and scarfing down chilly before the kickoff. Smart journalism is all about being prepared. And well lubricated.
Edit…hmmm, that last sentence didn’t exactly look right…
***Subbang!!!***
I feel that something unusual is going to happen. We’ll chase Martin F. And – Hal Gill will score two!
RIP Woodie Fryman.
No waivers, he was not under contract in Europe this season.
Indeed, farewell to the big lefthander.
Would he not be subjected to the same process as Emery, if/when he is signed, though? If he goes to the AHL for conditioning and stays past the 14 day limit he would have to pass through them, however I doubt he will go to Lake Erie as he has been skating with the team.
Wasn’t Green the one who shot the puck when Gorges took it in the head? Where in the head did Green take it?
Who’s in net??
Full Breezer 4 Life
In the ear? Ouch ouch ouch!
Price.
I wonder if the Wiz is back in the lineup?
ya it was….
he took it right near his ear… closer to his face… bleeding pretty heavily
——————
GWG = game winning gionta!
According to RDS, its the same lineup. So unfortunately Picard is still playing….
oh ya.. that baby is gonna be ringing for a while

Tee hee!

Don’t get excited boys that one goal will not make any difference. NJ will keep coming, refs will keep us down and we Hab’s will not have enuff in the tank.
Great deflection by KovyII – but so disrespectful of PK to score and break the shutout.
***Subbang!!!***
There’s your 8 Millon Dollar pass, Timo.
–Hope Springs Eternal—
Boone, PK laser, not really but its a line drive in the box score right,
“It’s not an obsession, It’s a way of life..”
Ooops. Missed that he was out
That’s what I say! We did not sign Gomer to score… I think this is gets most people fooled.
To bad Kovy II, but we’ll take it
“It’s not an obsession, It’s a way of life..”
PK baby!!!!
Well I guess if he does that pull up move in the o-zone often enough, it had to work eventually…
PK Su-BANG! Je sent le comeback!
“Hey Richard, two minutes for looking so good!”
Good. Now score another so that Marty F. Brodeur doesn’t get credited for a win.
PK!!! WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!! Back in business baby!!!
Maybe the hockey gods will give us a break today.
Gomez just spanked Pouliot’s bum as he left the ice.
“Hey Richard, two minutes for looking so good!”
ok but common hedberg sucks
lets get er done boys!

“It’s not an obsession, It’s a way of life..”
Good man. Keep that loser flag flying!

Hmm…Subban chirping Kovalchuk. That should be an interesting discussion! Kovalchuk can hold his own in that department, as Sidney Crosby found out years ago.
it’s like yuo’re trying to say something.
Can CBC talk about the habs instead of how good the devils and their players are?!
Right on, MH. Go Pack indeed!

It’s time for AK to do something. A goal would be super dooper right now!

Ugh, I really hope Wiz is back for the next game, Picard is becoming a nightmare, again.

Awesome shift,

Yea, a nice fat pay cheque in the middle of the week.
Merci, Robert.
Where’s the big Newfoundlander pup
Habs Passion unites us all
Excuses excuses….look you and everybody else can whine all day long but the theme is WINNING and as long as that’s the goal it’s the job of the Habs to do what ever it takes to win ….Heck it works for other teams .This game show us that we need changes and more effort form the players.
Hey, I’m enjoying the season so far. Got some good vibe going on and if they can figure out their PP we’re going to have a fun ride. How’ve you been?
***Subbang!!!***
Get a union job.
- I shall always remember Captain Koivu. Habs and Hockey.
I agree. The Devils are heavily penalized and rightly so. The Habs numbers are the ones that don’t add up as you said. I’m just saying that the Devils are generally officiated fairly outside of their games against teams such as Montreal, who is always getting screwed.
They are constanly insulting various members.
Habs Passion unites us all
They need to be scratched!
***Subbang!!!***
That is why we continue to suffer in silence.
“Hey Richard, two minutes for looking so good!”
BALLS has been slackin’ off this season!
It’s true. We are not the most effective team against the Devils. I wish they were in the West.
There may be other teams, but only ONE Club De Hockey…
But based on the style of their game, the Devils should be a heavily penalized team. The Habs, on the other hand, play a style of game that is conducive to drawing penalties, although they never seem to get called.
How exactly are they allowed to rule? Anyone can post and reply… How is it insulting to members?
There may be other teams, but only ONE Club De Hockey…
I dunno if that is entirely correct.
Habs PP/PK differential: -22
Devils differential: -17
The real team that gets helped out,
Toronto differential: +35 (2nd in the league)
http://ca.sports.yahoo.com/nhl/stats/byteam?cat=misc&conference=NHL&year=season_2010&cut_type=0&sort=447
Ha!!!
That’s priceless.

Okay. Thanks for your insight.

And you’ve done a stellar job defending him.

I work for the Govt.

The fine may come if reporters can get Gomez to say something publicly. You can bet, though, Gomez wasn’t explaining to the refs on the ice the excellent features of his new boat.
New F. Jersey with a little bit of help from the officials who must of thought it was 2004
Blame? How childish.
***Subbang!!!***
Not nice.
I wouldn’t be so sure of that.
Will Gomez get a fine for telling off the shitty refs?
“Hey Richard, two minutes for looking so good!”
Very amusing! Hilarious, even.
I assumed that people would be able to figure it out for themselves.
Eller has one more point than Weber has in 24 games. He falls over a lot. He has poor decision-making abilities. He seems overwhelmed by the pace of the game.
So there, I explained it to you. Feel better?
—Hope Springs Eternal—
If it had been the Habs protecting a lead and played the same way the Devils did for that third period, we would have been looking at double-digit penalty minutes, with a couple of 5 on 3′s thrown in. It’s total crap that they can play that way, and take only one penalty the entire game.
blame JM when the team comes out slow…
but do we praise him when the team wins?
give me a break.. a few brain farts had the team rattled…
——————
GWG = game winning gionta!
You’ve never worked at Walmart, I guess.
You have a point. New Jersey will do everything it can to score the first goal. Habs of all teams should know that.
The game was lost in the 1st 5 minutes. Mental lapses again.
Habs still need more depth up front though. Wiz and Cammy’s return will really help generate offence.
Habs are not an elite team (meaning top 5) but certainly a team capable of finishing top 10.
Mattyleg needs to go. Honestly. I know he’s not the reason the Habs fanbase gets a bad name, but I’m just tired of reading his weak, baseless posts.
This is the result when you only play 20 minutes a game.
This is the result when you only play 20 minutes a game.
Good work, refs. Let them get away with everything.
Eller needs to go. Honestly. I know he wasn’t the reason we lost, but I’m just tired of watching his weak play.
—Hope Springs Eternal—
bad bounces .. that’s what this game was decided by..
either gionta couldn’t lift the puck high enough and when he did he shot it over the net
pouliot misses an empty net.. so many oppurtunities..
and one guy who im getting really annoyed by is moen… 0 hands… for a big guy he always loses the battles along the boards.. can’t accept a pass that’s a little off.. and he is not vey physical.. no team goes “oh sh!t moen is out there”
reffing.. well what can you expect.. it’s a joke.. has been for several years now

No need for Quick Hits. Hangover confirmed.
Are there Any repercussions for arrogant refs who decide it’s more important to send a message (whether valid or not) to “impertinent” members of certain teams, rather than to call an honest game?
“You play 82 games to eliminate 13 teams and the Maple Leafs.”
That line will never get old. Ever.
I wish I could go to work every day and screw up like the Refs do at thier job and still have a job at the end of the day!

No doubt about that
I’d feel better if you were to avoid posting such blatantly incorrect opinions in such a matter-of-fact way.
–
It’s just a game.
You know, as far as losses go, I think the Habs battle hard in the 2nd and 3rd, and with a few bounces going the other way this could have been ours. Can’t win’em all.

So Gomez received a 10-minute misconduct penalty at 18:39 of the third period. Does anyone know whether he will get something more?
No thanks Dean, I’m hetero, and happily married. But thanks anyway.
I always admire how much time you can spend articulating your dislike of the NJD. I hate them too but you do it with such style.
- I shall always remember Captain Koivu. Habs and Hockey.
The Devils are NOT heavily penalized. You’d know that if you checked the numbers before claiming it.
My apologies, I meant they have a high ratio of penalties to powerplays.
You hit the nail 100% on the head.
I agree with what you are saying. But insults are a part of life. I say be tolerant, ignore and fight words with words. Censorship is not the answer. The only power they have is the power you give them.

How about a little cheese with that whine HABS IN THE BLOOD?
Thank you Ms. Dinah Washington, for putting it all into perspective.

Put down your drink and try to write something legible.
I know, I know, I’m a horrible person. =)
Calme-toi Dean, calme-toi.
Sorry man, send me the bill, or I’ll buy you a beer.
- I shall always remember Captain Koivu. Habs and Hockey.
No worries, I got overzealous and missunderstood.

The Habs were more than a little flat that period. But the missed holding call on Zubrus (which wasn’t one of the discretionary variety holding infractions like the one called on Pacioretty) set the tone for the game. I hope the Habs come back and win this one and shove it in the face of the HNIC crew.

They’ve no choice. Devils trapping. As others have remarked, Lemaire invented this way to win. Boring as hell–and equally effective.

I don’t really understand why people think Lemaire ‘ruined’ hockey.
Just because he wasn’t blindly pushing attacking hockey when he could win by being defensive? Is that what everyone’s so upset about?

I really don’t understand how other teams don’t see it. It is so so so so so easy to play the Habs if you just clog the neutral zone. There is all there is to it.
Pacioretty is pretty damn good. I hope the style he plays doesn’t have him in the infirmiry a couple of times per season…
We need to get three frowards within 6 feet of the net. Brodeur is flopping all over the place, and now hurt.
NJ has 10 shots and 9 scoring chances. Ridiculous.
Fatty B is hurt now finished him off habs!
Habs Passion unites us all
hate devils hockey..nothing worse than watching lemaire up to his old tricks…maybe habs did not take them seriously…clog up the zone…christ.
Weber just keeps winning battles, lightyears away from his play last season.
They can win this especially if Marty is botched, just STOP playing into the damned trap. Skate for crying out loud
Have we scored a first period goal since the break, I think not. So, i guess we are right where we should be.
“It’s not an obsession, It’s a way of life..”
Full Breezer 4 Life
Turnovers du jour.
GOD this is frustrating to watch. So many good plays spoiled by one or two players who aren’t pushing hard enough.
Your right, Price should have been a little more ready and solid. I try not to blam the Goalie’s for these things when they are playing well overall…
Hopefully it means he will be rock solid for the rest of the game like in Wash.
There may be other teams, but only ONE Club De Hockey…
Brodeur is letting out really juicy rebounds into the slot, get a guy in front of the net.
Marty B’s injured.
Long time getting up.
—Hope Springs Eternal—
hell of a power play, no dice though
lol..agree.
That’s HILARIOUS!!
Do you do weddings? Bar Mitzvahs?
—Hope Springs Eternal—
We need someone to step up, come out a lay a few good clean licks on a few Devils to get things going……… Oh I forgot…………we haven’t traded for that player yet.
Congrats!
Smile of the day!

Always nice to have bran new fans Don. And those pink ones are so special. Congratulations Gramps.!
Congrats man! Now go get that little lady a habs jersey! =)
Congratulations Shiloh, what a blessing.
Congratulations !!
Congrats to you and your family.
Congratulations! And best wishes!
“Hey Richard, two minutes for looking so good!”
congrats!!!!!
Absolutely predicting a Habs win today in honour of their newest fan - our grandaughter born at 2:30 this morning.
Congratulations and best wishes.
Congratulations!

ky.
I call jock itch. Yep, jock itch definitely.
***Subbang!!!***
You just suggested he packed the house out, if so popular, why are they celebrating the Cup in a parking lot?
- I shall always remember Captain Koivu. Habs and Hockey.
Sorry, ONE Cup. That’s terrible.
And at least they won cups with their play. If popularity won Cups, Toronto would clean up every year.
—Hope Springs Eternal—
Lemaire has 1 Cup, he left and Larry Robinson than Pat Burns won the 2nd and 3rd Cups in Devils History. That team was so unpopular their Cup Parades were held in a parking lot.
- I shall always remember Captain Koivu. Habs and Hockey.
You are joking, right?
Lemaire’s Devils packed the house out regularly. And won Stanley Cups, if memory serves.
When he left, the stands emptied because nobody who replaced him was nearly as good.
—Hope Springs Eternal—
Actually Matt, the Devils rarely even sold out playoff games in their prime. They’re also the only team in modern NHL histrory to have a game not sold out in the Stanley Cup finals.
His hockey genius is the principle reason that the Devils, with a brand new rink, can’t attract more than 14’000 fans per game.
Yes, his change was negative for entertainment value, but the man is undeniably a hockey genius.
If by “changed” you mean “ruined”, I’ll agree.
In fairness, he is. He changed the game by trying to ruin it.
Fixed.
- I shall always remember Captain Koivu. Habs and Hockey.

Spatch is right – start skating. Question is why would a bunch of highly paid professional athlete come out not skating?
back to back games, to tired, kids sick, wife sick, car did not start, its winter..who knows.
I feel sorry for all those , like me, who have to endure Chico “rag top” Resch for 2 more periods.
“It’s not an obsession, It’s a way of life..”
This team was not prepared to play out of the gate. We will come back, but it is a very bad habit.
Unless Martin sucks in the opposition in thinking that they have it in the bag.
Maybe the Habs are looking ahead to tonight’s Super Bowl. Should have figured on that.
Excellent opening on CBC today.
Regarding football – is it me or do you never hear most canadians talk about the NFL until the superbowl? I don’t get it, do they not watch any games but this? I can’t imagine being interested in a sport but not watching it save for the superbowl.
Everyone was bad on that goal EVERYONE
Habs Passion unites us all
Gill was held by Zubrus, no call and then the turnover. Mind you, CBC says the game is over now according to plastic hair Craig Simpson who looks like a Ken doll and has the f’n IQ to match. Over to RDS after two minutes.
As a classically-trained baritone, myself, I agree. Such warmth in that mature voice!
Actually Simpson is a good analyst
you should have listened to me.
WE NEVER BEAT THE DEVILS!
2-0 Devils now.
dude, we’re 2 minutes in, “chill”
Hah, PK is trying to get into Brodeurs kitchen. I really wish someone took a healthy run at Brodeur.
Refs missed a high stick on Hammer and a hold on Gill, pathetic
Replay that Z goal. He held Gill, shoulda been a penalty.
back-to-back games and Bordeur in nets… The perfect storm.
If the Habs had been guilty of holding and highsticking, we’d have been penalized twice, Great start ahole refs
“It’s not an obsession, It’s a way of life..”
Good on PK for giving Brodeur a snow shower. They have to do something to get in his head.
WTF IS IT WITH THE DEVILS AND MTL!?!?!?
Dam you Lemaire….you are truly one of the great all around NHLers………….
Was our d-man high-sticked?
Well, Hal didn”t exactly “give it away”. He was checked.
***Subbang!!!***
Well at least we don’t have to stress about consecutive shutouts.
Where the F were the forwards on that goal?
Great! They score already. Why does this team own us so bad?
Refs startin early. High stick missed

as the norm, this game is over.
habs never beat Brodeur, and the devils.
That was UNBELIEVABLY WEAK. UGH! Come on boys wake up!
Horrible D, wow
What a bad giveaway by Gill – and Price tried the poke check.
Facepalm.
no holding call, bad turnover, goal… not a good start

Habs gonna counter the trap and play like the wind? Or are we in for a snoozefest?
I agree, but I found he was a little off singing the american anthem”
Whooooaa baby!!! WHAT is goin’ on in Pennsylvania!!?
Charles Prevost Linton. The best in the business. That is all.
“Hey Richard, two minutes for looking so good!”
You’re wrong, about this and about Eller.
No kidding, we need some passion in these boring trap games, good for him for calling out the refs, they were absolutely terrible today!
I can’t believe the ref threw him out, i’d love to hear what he said. That just reeks of insecurity on the refs part, silence the challengers, brutal
Yes, this leaguse is becoming a joke. Only the fans can fix it.
Habs Passion unites us all
I think they’re corrupt
“Hey Richard, two minutes for looking so good!”
Should have forced him to shoot on the empty net. Who knows?
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VXh-ZBcCFYo&feature=fvwrel
“Hey Richard, two minutes for looking so good!”
Give the win to him then. Fatty Marty has sucked big time this season. He will never be as good as Roy though.
Habs Passion unites us all
Well I’ll go look up some stats (ugh…I hate stats) just to see and get back to you.
***Subbang!!!***
No, he’s right. The goaltender of record when the winning goal was scored was Brodeur, so he gets the win.
Wrong.
—Hope Springs Eternal—
Oh well. I have Kovy II in my pool and he’s coming on so for me…meh, what the heck.
On to Boston for some fun.
***Subbang!!!***
How is that an automatic goal?
I don’t think that’s the full story, MICP
Another win for Martin F.
Pffff Gomez.. Poor sportsmanship.
Way to Go Gomez. I would have went right in his face
Habs Passion unites us all
Boone: it did hit the post but the rule on breakaways on an empty net is that if you commit an infraction (hooking, tripping, etc.) it’s an automatic goal.
Go Habs Go!
Thank Gd we won’t face the Devils in the playoffs.
Good for Gomez giving those morons what for. Too bad you can’t win ‘em all.
Go Habs Go!
Pacioretty getting hooked and held like crazy. What is this 2004? Holy crap.
Man they have an awful time playing against teams below them.
***Subbang!!!***
Curious to know the hit count for the home team.
This is embarrassing how much these refs are letting NJ get away with.
When NJ plays, refs turn back the calender. This league is such a joke.
- I shall always remember Captain Koivu. Habs and Hockey.
Seriously
Contrast the Devils and the Sens. Two teams that are out of it. The Sens know it and are barely trying. Not the Devils. They’re blocking shots, fighting for every puck. And they have no hope of making the playoffs.
Partly it’s because Lamoriello only picks those kinds of players. But it has to also be Lemaire’s doing.
(OK they also cheat a lot and know how to get away with it …)
I saw that also,creating a 2 on 1 the other way.
eveyrtime on the PK this guy gets stopped at the line.. for such a big guy he loses so many board battles…
not a fan of his at all
——————
GWG = game winning gionta!
Gomez looked like he was injured on that last play.
I noticed that to, it directly led to the 2 on 1 and the scoring chance.
Anyone else as tired of Moen as I am? Whatever he had last season is gone. I’d very much like to see him gone for draft picks and white or anyone brought up. He doens’t play much anyway.
Hamrlik’s stick held. AGAIN.
I want to see AK gone by this Sept.
Habs Passion unites us all
I always wear a frown watching Devils games. Too frustrating. We NEVER have a counter to their game when they play us,.. EVER.
It’s fustrating watching the Habs not score
Habs Passion unites us all
Apparently corkscrewing a guy isn’t a penalty anymore.
In the Globe and Mail last weekend Roy MacGregor profiled Bettman. Did you know he attends Devils games incognito with his grandson and cheers as a fan?
So anyone is surprised the Devils have always gotten the benefit of the doubt from the officials? What a garbage franchise.
You know it’s bad when even the guy’s on CBC are noticing the non-calls.
Tip your hat to NJ. Great game, 1 penalty, no 19 shots against in the third. Devils beats us as they were the better team today.
That’s the most BULLSHIT thing I ever saw
I completely disagree Dave. This game would be even if not a Habs win if it was called by 2011 rules and not 2004 rules. The BS hooking and holding NJ has gotten away with is an embarrassment to the game.
NHL officiating is a JOKE! Total Bush League!!! I don’t blame Gomer for going off on him!
That’s a stupid rule.
Moen’s been completely invisible. At least AK had a bad turnover.
Just got in. Shocked at 2 zip NJ.
You gotta figure against Martin F and Lemaire this game is over BUT the Habs have been surprisingly resilient.
Lets see if they got it in ‘em.
I see Caps won.
Boo’ing Kovy II may be counterproductive
Great F. start…..
Just me or do the RDS and CBC feeds seem glitchy? I feel like i’m about to start having seizures…
Habs badly outplayed yesterday and very lucky to escape with a win. Just like yesterday the Devils are easily able to keep the Habs hemmed in, the result of zero physicality on the part of the Canadiens D and back checking forwards.
You can only get away with this sort of play for so long.
Three shots, two goals. Yeah Carey really sucks eh Boone?
Habs Passion unites us all
Perhaps the boys started their Super Bowl tailgate early with some beer, chili, and burgers
Two Refs and they can’t see anything
Habs Passion unites us all
With what Zubrus got away with on the 1st goal, Montreal getting that penalty, and people wonder why everyone hates referees?
I’d take Barry White over Chris Phillips.
The players need to take a few 80mph slappers at the Refs
Habs Passion unites us all
What’s that now, Baby?
What’s that you say?
Ouch, thats harsh
“It’s not an obsession, It’s a way of life..”
Guess in the modern day NHL checking forwards make 8 mil. Not too bad.
He’s a good tough maritime kid.
I agree with the last part of your message.
Rollie Pollie Marty hasn’t broke a sweat yet!
Habs Passion unites us all
Bleh. Need to hurry up and get one or this will get ugly
Kovalcuk is back and with a vengence…yike’s
Have the Habs had a shot yet?
I guess they use rookies as cameramen for the afternoon games… I’m getting seasick here!
—Hope Springs Eternal—
But if you got caught you’d end up like Bernie Madoff rich.
Just said it on RDS: not in nine minutes.
—Hope Springs Eternal—
Yes, he made a brilliant back check on Kovalchuk in the first minute, and cleared the zone effectively on the PK.
Refs are jobbing us. Tried to yesterday and it didn’t work. Today they’re making sure they get their way.
“Hey Richard, two minutes for looking so good!”
BLECH!
Anyone seen our 8 million dollar man yet?
BS. If they’re going to let the one against Gill go uncalled, a hold that causes a turnover, then how can they call that?
That was a huge save…I hope it matters.

Not that a PP would make any difference, if the last few games have been an indication….
I’d take Colin White over Chris Phillips any day
The boys might have been out a bit late last night after the Ranger win.
This team is just cursed against the Devils
This is the kind of game where the non-calls are really going to hurt. We’re going to need PP’s to get scoring chances against their trap, and from early indications, we aren’t going to get PP’s.
Okay guys. Time to open the scoring floodgates now.
“Hey Richard, two minutes for looking so good!”
Were the Boys out late last night? They better get it going or this will turn very ugly very fast

Boone, I agree with you about Clarkson — I think he’d be great for us.
Hey blu3chip. Boone posted A LINK to SK’s goal…that must mean he’s not a real habs fan too huh?
Well these guys had better start showing up or we’re done. Getting beat all over the place.
I wouldn’t say that. Those are two of my favourite Habs from the 70′s era.
Or each other…
Mine too HH. Larry Robinson signed his card for me when I was young. But both of them severed their relationship with the Montreal Canadiens a long time ago. They have been our opponents ever since.
Wow. PJ Stock with some non-extraneous, insightful comments on Habs’ state of mind to start the game. Incredible.
Lets see Gomez do his thang on the PP.
We have to create some chances here, if not score.
Yes Patches, we need more of that!! Flashes of brilliance!
I’m crossin my fingers & toes ..
Habs Passion unites us all
The Habs are 0-22. Would they really score with 5 more PP’s today?
Habs Passion unites us all
Such bullshit that was unbelievable reffing..
Chill out. Fatso will let in a weak goal.
In fairness, he is. He changed the game.
I hate that sh*t-eating grin of Lemaire’s. He thinks he’s so goddam smart.
I don’t know if you’ve missed the memo or not, but he is.
No, he knows he is.
—Hope Springs Eternal—
Ha! Brody’s flopping around out there like a sumo wrestler on a greased pan.
—Hope Springs Eternal—
hopefully a few bad bounce goals vs the devils and a pp goal…we have problems scoring vs most teams so should be no suprise vs the devils…
TSN has been showing it in their highlights package all morning and referring to it as a blindside headshot. So, yes. Will there be any consequences for it? Doubtful.
Go Habs Go!
Does anyone think the hit on spacek could be considered a blindside headshot?

It was clearly all refs fault. Refs and strippers.
It’s the NJD rule, when that pathetic anti-hockey franchise with no fans comes to town the refs swallow their whistles.

The hooking, the holding. I guess the NHL wanted a retro game on Super Bowl Sunday.
You have a way with words, Dan.

God that sucked!
“Hey Richard, two minutes for looking so good!”
Great summary of the 1st period by the CBC panel.
You have to also wonder what the three older Dmen will have left by hte 3rd.
Kovalchuk played like an all-star in that period. Totally dominant.
So far, Eller has shown the scoring touch of a Tom Pyatt. He is like the Habs since they let Koivu go, no Finnish.
this year is a very important learning year for eller…at the beginning of the season the scoring expectations on eller were way too high by most posters who predicted how many goals each hab will score…prior to this year in 5 seasons of hockey eller had a combined 69 goals…right now eller looks like he can become a very solid 3rd line centre who can be a 15 goal 25 assist type player…anything more will be a bonus…it is common to have players in the nhl who had very high scoring stats prior to the nhl but become average or below average producers in the nhl but the opposite to this is very rare…
That became a pretty exciting game..
Wellll… Not only do the Devils play a boring brand of hockey, they win too…
The Devils are no more boring than your boys in bleu, blanc, et rouge. Which is to say that they aren’t boring. Just because you can’t appreciate a stellar defensive system, doesn’t mean it’s boring. There was a lot of wide open hockey and ice to be had.
Uh, did you think they’d give him a penalty shot on an open net…?
Holy crap, stop crying. As bad as the reffing was at points in this game, this is just getting beyond ridiculous now.
Wow he misses the net and they count it… this is the biggest fraud spectacle ive ever seen
How is that a rule????
There may be other teams, but only ONE Club De Hockey…
That’s just the hurt talking.
You can’t possibly prefer the Bruins to the Devils.
If there’s one team I can’t stand more than Philly it’s NJ, BS trap and the refs always seem to swallow their whistles for chippy play
You know what should have been an automatic goal? Gomez being checked from behind into the net while the puck was behind Hedburg. However, let two imbeciles have their way to interpret things their way…
What, no snub?
Too bad no other Hab or Hab management has the Testicular fortitude to call out the Refs.

Both of them can go fu*k themselves.

There may be other teams, but only ONE Club De Hockey…
Max Power is flying, he’s been one of our best forwards of late
Did someone just remind the Habs that Brodeur is NOT in net?!

Good job!

Hey, someday hit someone in a Devil’s jersey.
Yes, one of those many games where Habs don’t show up for 2 periods and then blame luck for not scoring on some great chances in the third.
Why does New Jersey always seem to have horseshoes completely up their arses?
Two of our best players are on the IR, one has played fairly well in net, and our next best, Pleks, has had a few chances.
About Gomez (nowhere near our best player)- he probably has created the most chances for us, so I’d say he’s contributing.
F&%$! Rough, but it’s a good call, looks like it didn’t cross the line
The puck was right on the line! Sooooo close.

no goal
That HAS to be delay of game on Hedberg. What horse s—!
You’ve got to be kidding me. Is their net magnetically opposing the the puck or something? How does that not go in?
Ummm…. i think thats a goal. The puck was on hedbergs back and he backed into his net. Which probably means they won’t count it. Actually after the other angle,no goal.
Why isn’t AK46 shooting anymore!?! I realize he is a great passer too but…unleash that wrister!
Another golden oppurtunity missed. Gio could easily have 30 goals already this season.
So isnt’ this a type of game where you best player (aka Gomez) has to step up and pull the team on his shoulders? It just seems like that kind of the game to me.
brilliant observation! tell me, o wise one, what team would that not be true of?
Aaaand Gionta misses an open net.
How is it legal for 2 devils to literally stand in the net? How retarded.
They at least have to review that.

I can’t even express how much I despise Lemaire hockey.
If Pouliot and AK46 keep on refusing to go to the net then get rid of them and get somebody with some balls.

He grows on me by the minute. Enjoy your party, Steven. Hope it’s better than the game the rest of us will be stuck watching.

haha, hopefully they rot from the inside out.
Exactly.
Just like the mafia isn’t it?
A divisive force in the Bruins’ locker room? I love Andrew Ference.
Not at the salary he’s getting…
Absolutely. It’s Paille who looks like a total coward. He had an opportunity to save face–to say, “Andrew’s absolutely right; I lost my head, in the heat of the moment; bad hit.”
Coward! Bad form!
How is he greedy? If someone offered me that ridiculous contract of which 100% of the money is guaranteed, I would take it too.
we have seen this team now for 150 games and we know that it has problems scoring…we have 7 forwards in the line up who are not goal scorers.the next 2 pouliot and ak46 are streaky at putting the puck in the net…no suprise that we are one of the lowest scoring teams in the nhl for the past 2 years
I’d settle for a powerplay goal. Hell–I’d settle for a Powerplay from these vindictive, self-righteous zebras!
Ron MacLean empathizing with Paille, saying he’s “hurt” right now and Ference is piling on. You know who deserves some empathy? Raymond Sawada who is actually hurt because of Paille’s reckless stupidity and intent to injure.
thats what the habs need to do … JM in unknown territory (no lead to sit on tonight)
for those of you yelling about how selfish kovalchuk is..
3 yeras ago whent he world championship was being held in quebec city my brother (who was 12 at the time) and hsi friend went to one of the games with my dad.
this was after the game kovalchuk was suspeneded for fighting the swedish guy who took out Russia’s captain.
so i assume he wasn’t in the best of moods.
my brothers friends squeeked through the security fence (this kid is tinnny) when he saw kovalchuk and ran up to him..
instead of shruggin the kid off kovalchuk went with my brothers friend to my dad and my brother..
he moved the security gate and took a picture with both my brother and his brother’s friend.
spoke to my dad for a couple of minutes…
so no he is not the devil (oooh what a good pun)

EXCUSES ARE FOR LOSERS!
habs deserve every penalty they get.
No comments on refereeing. Pathetic as usual. To tell you the truth I am used to it by now.
Probably because he is a pompous, one dimensionsal, greedy, jerk that made a spectacle of a contract signing for the entire summer. Just a guess though.
The OT winner at the ’08 Worlds still stings a bit, if only because the Team Canada squad that year was relatively loaded.
Gomez is a good player, I have no problem with his game anymore, he does what he does, He is just WAY OVER PAID. We can’t change that so I stopped getting on him.
“It’s not an obsession, It’s a way of life..”
He’s definitely come on since his mini-injury (head clearing break?) earlier this season.

This team cannot faacking score.
One would think that after scoring only 1 goal yesterday – they would’ve pot a couple before 3rd today.
But no. Brutal offense. Even Leafs are better than us in this category.
Cannot score for the sake of their lives…Pouliot and Gio missing some real good opportunities.
Props to the D and Price for stepping up. Weber’s been good.

- Honestly yours
now that is one guy i would loooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooove on my team

GWG = game winning gionta!
—Hope Springs Eternal—
I just can’t believe what the Devils are getting away with in this game. They are playing pre-lockout hockey at this point and the refs seem to turning a collective blind eye towards it.
ARRRGGHHH
lol, certainly not Timo and Dean.
Why are these jerks booing Kovalchuk?
just missed the second period. why is hedberg in????
well teh chances were deffinately there…
pouliot and gionta.. how did u guys miss that???

GWG = game winning gionta!
What do the Devils have to do to get called for a penalty? This reffing is brutal.
To date, he’s never played that way when it really matters.
- I shall always remember Captain Koivu. Habs and Hockey.
Brodeur hurt his knee.
Well we just have to come out for a great third period. Habs can do it! GO HABS GO!!!
Volchenkov does that all the time and never gets called.
Awful AK46, make the efin pass damn it
“It’s not an obsession, It’s a way of life..”
Gio cross-checked to the ice, no call.
Anyone notice that most of Gomez’s shot are from impossible angles
Habs Passion unites us all
I guess there’s a clause in his contract that says he has to play at least one per month.
—Hope Springs Eternal—
Devils are getting away with murder right now.
I HATE THE REFS I HATE THE REFS I HATE THE REFS I HATE THE REFS

Holy Crud!
I’m proud of Gomez! He took that hit and didn’t turn aroud waving his stick like Excalibur!
—Hope Springs Eternal—
Devil’s playing like it’s 2003, so much clutching and grabbing going uncalled.
No offence to Bob Gainey, but Ilya Kovalchuk is a thoroughbred. That guy seems to be playing this entire game.
He dropped his gloves. That should be a penalty.
C’mon, Please a short hander Habs
Habs Passion unites us all
Mike – I believe that SK74 (14/16/30) scored twice last night – the winner plus an insurance goal (his 14th). That goal puts him one ahead of his brother in terms of goals and points:-)
Nashville beat Detroit 3-0 and are now just two points behind Montreal in the standings. What a franchise. The best GM-HC duo in the league on a shoestring budget.
No break fo Habs so far
Habs Passion unites us all
How is that not a penalty on Volchenkov?!!
Vochenkov has an arrangement with the refs
“Hey Richard, two minutes for looking so good!”
Wow, you can tell Habs were really well prepared for this game. Could you tell they were looking a little bit ahaed in the stands?
Go Habs Go? Hah… yeah… let’s see that go.
It’s ok, at least we have Gomez.
None of us were making plans for a parade. We know that ain’t gonna happen. But some playoff games would be nice if not ultimatley victorious
Nope, still on schedule. I’ve got my spot picked out and plan on climbing the same light pole I did in 93.
So I take it plans for the parade are on hold.
Man, that was a world-class deflection.
I still think once cammy comes back we need to move ak46, he’s had ‘potential’ for how long now, 3-4 years. I think he can be a better player, but for some reason its not working for him here, time to move on…
Give me a break.
The likelihood of our 3rd and 4th lines scoring is essentially nil.
The likelihood of our D-men scoring is with one exception essentially nil.
Our powerplay isn’t scoring either.
There’s your problem.
We need a power play about now… oh wait….
Yuck.
You think on Devils inside out that their whining about a conspiracy or referee bias re that high stick staying in the nj end?
Game over!
See ya in Boston
Devils have been good.
But I am really upset with the Habs’ offense. Gionta could have had like a hat trick by now.
Dispite allowing 3 goals, this game should be tied right now. Oh well
Habs Passion unites us all
I’ll be pleasantly suprised if the Habs pull off a win today.
Goalies in Montreal have two roles, netminder and scapegoat.
A hold resulting in a goal against and then a highstick. Both uncalled. I guess it’s going to be one of those games again.
Hmm… I never thought about it this way. Makes sense.
Watching the Habs trying to score is like watching the keystone cops!…sigh
When the Steelers lose tonight it won’t be all bad!

Don’t care what anyone says. We have been unlucky, and we could be tied or even winning here.
Im glad we didn’t quit.

Not enough time left for our boys today. On to the Boston game.

For such a big guy, Gill sure has a horrible shot.
Got a batch of jalapeno poppers ready to go in the oven for the game

The Habs have to take some chances. They have to go flat out.

By the time the puck drops this place is going to smell of slow-cooking turkey chili. Might even do up a batch of wings for the Habs. I love Super Bowl Weekend.
Go Habs Go!
Again, why does this team only decides to show up in the third?
Because at the end of the game your longjohns have to be wet in order to show that you played hard.
Devils are smiling cause it is THAT easy.
The Devils are masters of the pick play. Rarely enough to get called for interference, but always enough to disrupt the player they’re interfering with.
I would rather play the Bruins than the Devils 100 times of 100. No team gets away with as much BS as NJ, and the hockey is boring garbage.
… aaaaaand. nothing.
I agree. A snowblower’s way better than a Leaf Blower
“Hey Richard, two minutes for looking so good!”
The team came out and announced that Kristo wasn’t breaking any team rules, which would include underage drinking in this case. He apparently was walking across campus on an extremely cold night, took an uncleared, snowy shortcut and lost a shoe in the snow. He tried to get back to shelter as quickly as he could, but the damage was done.
http://habsloyalist.blogspot.com
I’d say they were related. You don’t realize your feet are frostbitten if you’re hammered and stumbling around campus.
Otherwise, you warm yourself up.
—Hope Springs Eternal—
What is with Danny Kristo? A report said he is in the hospital with frost bitten feet from walking at campus.
A report before that said he was in trouble with his team for underage drinking.
Do these two incidents have the same cause?
Last year he played well for the US national junior team and this year he was not with the team. His production as a forward is really slow this year. Was he not a very top prospect at one time?
Having a bit of a down year with some off-ice party issues I guess. I think the Canadiens will get him to HAM next season and make sure Cunneyworth straightens him out.
- I shall always remember Captain Koivu. Habs and Hockey.
Judging by the first powerplay. I think they could well have
I get the NHL Center Ice package, so I don’t usually have to search, but I’ve found myp2p.eu pretty decent since atdhe.net went out.
CBC.ca has the stream if you don’t mind them (I do but it’s the most stable feed I’ve found today).
- I shall always remember Captain Koivu. Habs and Hockey.
Anybody got a good link for the game ? thanks!
Yes. This is true.
I wonder if there is any truth to the rumour that the only reason Lemaire went back behind the bench was because he had another year left on his contract. Did Lou say, help me out here, and earn your keep.
The Habs Habsoloutly need to crash the net.
Habs Passion unites us all
One day, somebody is going to have to teach Matt Cooke a lesson. His knee on knee hit of Ovie was pretty dangerous.
PJ Stock is such a dink. It was hilarious yesterday when he was spouting advice on how the Habs could get more scoring. Aaaaahh good times.
Mike — nice of you to give the Devils their due.
“Hey Richard, two minutes for looking so good!”
I would love to see Muller as Habs head coach along with Robinson by his side.

Robinson at the bell centre….can we get him to stay?
What a dive. That’s embarassing.
wow hedberg learned quite a lot from brodeur
did u see that guy jump 3 feet in the air hahah what af reakin dive
oh and pouliot.. how do u miss that?!?!!?

Kostitsyn might be the third best passer on this team, behind Markov and Plekanec. Tape to tape to Plekanec, setting up a nice chance.
lmfao,nice sell job
Great performance by Hedberg

Really need one more before the period is out. The weak D has got to improve, those goals were preventable.
