Let’s be honest: The better team won.
And maybe that will be the case in the final.
• • •
Faceoffs were 35-26 Boston.
The team with the faceoff edge won every game of the series.
• • •
Anyone remember a playoff game with no penalties?
That dooomed the Lightning, because Boston was the better 5-on-5 team.
• • •
Hey, props to Horton.
Came back from a big hit and an injury.
Sweet pass by Krejci, who was brilliant in this series.

People don’t give JM enough credit, his system works in the playoffs and it works well, a more healthy team and we woupd be in the finals. Vigneault and Julien have stacked teams to manage so it’s kind of easier for them.

You know what’s sad. The Habs can never get Peter Chiarelli as their GM because he doesn’t speak French. Maybe if Horton was on the Habs the B’s wouldn’t have made it past the first round.

“Go Canucks” ??? WTH? As patriotic Canadians we should all put our support behind Canada’s team and guess what, that’s the Boston Bruins. Last I checked Boston had 22 Canadians in their roster, more than the Canucks and certainly more than our beloved Habs.
The best players of the Canucks are their Italian goalie, two gay Swedish twins and an American, not a very Canadian mix, eh?
Tim Thomas = American, Krejci = Czech, Chara = Slovak. Not very Canadian, eh? I don’t count 22 Canadians on the team roster at bruins.nhl.com. Roberto Luongo is from Montreal; if he’s Italian, Lucic is Croatian.
“two gay swedish twins”…. um okkkay.. since when do cavemen know how to use the internet

Gomez: 36 and counting!
Enjoy yourselves Beaners.
Speed kills – Canucks in 5…..6 if Thomas can work a miracle!
I love seeing Habs fans twist in the wind.
Just imagine – if you guys could have scored in game 7 OT, this could be you in the cup finals.
Should have kept Halak if you wanted a chance against our soon to be 2-time Vezina winner.
HAHAHAHABS.
Lol Get a life buddy.
It’s not hard to make it to the stanley cup when your daddy is making up the rules as he see’s fit.
Not because you are trash-talking Habs fans (that’s the fun of discussion forums like this) but because you brought up the tired old subject of Halak, I cant help thinking you’re missing the word “head” from your handle.
Not really. Beating the Bruins would have only spoiled your party. I disagree that if the Habs won round they’d be in the finals.
Also, as much as the Bruins are the enemy here, Thomas is my pick for the Calder Trophy when all is said and done.
You’re retarded to think keeping Halak over Price would have been the right move.
Kudos to the Bruins for building a championship calibre team. You however are still a idiot.
I love watching you all squirm.
Go Vancouver

I am still on the anybody but Boston theme.
GO VANCOUVER!!!
… And to think, that scumbag Horton shouldn’t have even been playing. F U NHL!
I love how Charelli announced on saturday Horton had to pay a fine for the water bottle incident. Not the NHL making an announcment, but the General Manager of the team.LOL
2 ex hab coaches in the finals.
[Disclaimer]: I’m a hockey fan. I care about the habs, but probably not as much as you.
Agree w Boone…. Go Canucks
and yes props to Norton, I was also smitten by Ferrence’s poise with the puck in the central zone that made possible the insuing smooth looking Krejci-Norton exchange leading to the goal.
This beautifull goal leading play was rather odd coming from the Bruins but those are the type of goals I expect to see when I’m watching a Canucks game…. something I have done alot lately.
Above the Seddins making their magic and Kessler being a starstud what makes the Canucks game special comes from the high quality puck control found within their D squad……. with Vancouver lots of plays start from the back-end…. they are also encouraged to join the rush…. but there is even more to it in that once down low they are being expected to keep plugging in there until the offensive plays dies out.
In my book this Canucks team plays the most interesting-exciting type of game I’ve seen in a long while, except for a few Red Wings games I usually dont watch hockey when my Habs are out…. this year has been different though, thanks to the Canucks and not least, thanks to my sister and niece both dye hard Canucks fan living in Vancouver.
Despite/because my disdain for the Bruins I was hoping to seen them in the final series against Vancouver because I figure that this could only help in making my cheering for the Nucks only more genuine and intense then its been thus far.
I would love to see the Bruins go down in 4 and I will be cheering for Vancouver to make it hapenned….. anyway in the end all am asking Vancouver is to win the CUP because they are a Hockey Team that I truly respect.
A proverbial “influenza outbreak” is the only Stanley Cup Finals outcome I’d be happy with.

“Let’s be honest: The better team won.”
Let’s be honest: it did not.
By every quantitative measure we have, Tampa absolutely rolled Boston everywhere but the crease. They were the much, much better club for the majority of the games.
The story of the series is that Roloson’s poor performance allowed an overmatched Boston team until it could win Game 7. Even then, that only happened because Thomas stole a game where the Bolts outchanced the Bruins two-to-one.
Boston versus Vancouver is a massive mismatch.
Boston was the better team. Period.
They were not. Period.
Head over to coppernblue.com for scoring chances counts and analysis. They show it much more convincingly than I could.
You are deluded MM.
Here is what coppernblue.com has to say:
The Bruins finally put together a game they should’ve won handily. They dominated possession and shots, but settled for long-distance stuff in the first and Tampa simply packed it in and blocked shots. Julien seemed to figure this out in the second and third and the Bruins owned the game.
The Bruins are in the Finals and that is all that matters. They were the better team because they won the series. The better team wins.
Christian apologists are more accurate in their calculations of the Earth’s age than you are at analysing hockey stats.
Perhaps I should have clarified: Tampa was clearly the much better club *over the course of the series*.
Boston was the better club in Game 7, which is the only game they dominated out of the whole series. (Game 3 was a deserved Boston win, but it was more along the lines of two closely-matched clubs with one beautifully taking advantadge of an early goal.)
And if you think the better club wins in hockey all the time, you are delusional. That is not how hockey works, period. It is the way to bet, but weaker teams win games and series all the time, even overmatched clubs. One would think that with the fresh example of the Habs’ fluke playoff run in 2009-2010, Habs fans would be well aware of that!
Whether or not Boston was the better team in this series overall (I don’t think they were either), they were certainly the better team in game 7.

Oh yeah, ps… If the Bruins do win the cup, I think we can all agree that it will be a hollow victory with little meaning…. Beautiful hockey loses but sonebody’s chequeing account gains.
Really????
And to all the posters in here crapping on Guy Boucher: I think you all need to re-watch this series on tape including the Washington series. This guy is a real coach, leader, motivator…. If it was a fair a loss then I say- everyone beware of Guy and his charges next year. Guys like him are quality. We may have lost him, but I hope someday he becomes our head coach. He’s the real deal and in the same vein of other great coaches living and past.
Guy Boucher…overrated IMO.
I’ll take a Alain Vigneault or Claude Julien anyday and thank our wonderful organization especially Pierre Boivin for axing these 2 fine men.
Karma’s a b***h, ain’t it Pierre?
By next year, everyone will say Guy who?
“We will win the Cup one day only with ? in the nets “
After several beers, I feel liberated enough to say this: that wasn’t a real icing call at all in the last two minutes. I hope the Bruins don’t win the cup. They don’t deserve it. Watching that last period, I couldn’t believe this is the same team that tried to masquerade pushing someone into a stanchion as a ‘hockey play’. They’re winning with the help of politics. Plain and simple.
For you insomniacs – it’s only 9:30 here in LA — there is an article on TSN.ca about Kerry Fraser and “the call” in ’93 with Leaf fans posting that Leafs would have beaten Habs in the final, which I find hilarious.
Granted Leafs had a much better team then than they have now, and it would have been a fun series, but no way they would have done any better against St. Patrick than LA.
Anyway, you can get a laugh if you can’t sleep.
Ya, the laff fans cling to 93 like $hit to a shovel.
On the brighter side of life, LA’s GM had this to say about Dustin Penner: “He can choose to use his athletic ability to either become a dominant power forward in the National Hockey League or be a dominant number four hitter for the El Cid Lounge in a men’s softball league — the choice is his.”
Great line. I remember a few posters that claimed he was the right package of size, grit, toughness, skill, and non-female player for Montreal.

P.S. I confess to being one of the guys who thought Penner would be great here. I had just seen him play (for Edmonton) from like the 5th row and was really impressed. In reality, he might have been another Latendresse. Mea Culpa. Disappointing, he’s got all the tools but in the end it’s what’s between the ears that counts.
Anyway, you can get a laugh if you can’t sleep.
Don’t always agree with you LA, but good for you for owning up on Penner.
lombardi dosen’t pull any punches, however,he is not the first GM or coach to come out and challenge this guy,we should’t be surprised
and expecting him to have the heart of Ryan Smythe is a giant leap.
what boston gave up to get horton?
Dennis Wideman, 15th pick in 2010 draft, 2011 3rd round pick. Horton came with Campbell.
good deal. why we cant get a deal like that?
good question…
can’t WAIT to see what the Green Men will have in store!
Boston proved that Neanderthals can play hockey and play it well. That was a picture perfect win.
I’d rather that Vancouver win the Cup, but I have a sneaking suspicion Boston will pull it off. Vancouver are in for a rough ride either way.
I also suspect that Boston will expose Luongo. Prepare for heart-ache Habs fans.
A couple of observations:
Tampa looked gassed in the 3rd period, I kept waiting for them to counter punch and they never did.
Roloson was brilliant, the play that beat him was superb.
I never thought i would cheer for Vancouver, but I hate Ruins that much. Anyway, good on Vigneault, Laps and Higgins to have a shot.
2 coaches not good enough for Habs face off. Interesting.
That was quite painful – though not as painful as Stamkos taking that puck off the schnozzola. Hope he comes out looking more like OV than Marchand.
The puck hit his visor and the visor bent back to gash his nose. I watched the replay in super slow motion.
Another observation. Thomas gives up fat juicy rebounds but Tampa never got to any of them.
It’s going to be interesting seeing too floppy styled goalies duel it out.
Interesting, I was at the rink so I couldn’t watch the replays up close. It was weird because there was a Beaner in front of him with his stick real high, but not that close.
Sounds like it lucky the visor slowed it down. Tampa were just not in rhythm, unless it was Boston totally disrupting them. Oh well.
How many sleeps until October?
Julien was let go by the Devils as well.

We may mock Luongo, he’s allowed bad goals but when his team has needed him to win games in these playoffs, he’s done it.
I’m concerned this will be the 2007 Ducks all over again, Refs pocket their whistles so a bully team can do what they want.
- I shall always remember Captain Koivu. Habs and Hockey.
SF09 on Twitter
Tonight’s game the only penalty I saw was an interference play that a TB player got away with.
Play-off hockey is like that SF09. Get used to it.
Prepare for Byfuglien impersonations and Bruins standing quite literally all over Luongo.
Is that the whiskey talking?
HH I don’t think you will see Alain Vigneault playing a 1-3-1 or anything even closely resembling that. For that reason alone I think both Luongo and Thomas will be exposed.
It should be an interesting series.Perhaps like the Chicago series.
That is my hope.
Never heard such a bunch of whiners in my life. Who complains about the reffing, losers or Habs fans, which is the same thing!!!!!!
SeriousFan09 don’t cry yourself to sleep tonight.
Hey what are you guys doing next week, ahhh were playing for the Cup.
GO BRUINS GO!!!!!!!!!
dpg3
Go Bruins!!
thats the thing about playoff hockey I dont get .. if its a penalty all season, and you go in prepared for a special teams game, then it doesnt happen. Mario was right back in the day, it was a garage league then, and its still a garage league.
On another note, wow, Hedman really surprised me with his poor play this entire series. I know he’s a young DMan in this league, and its a tough tough position to play, but Hedman playing with Ex Hab Clark left much to be desired. Thats a weak, weak defensive core. Hedman, Clark, Brewer, Ohlund, MAB and Lunden .. ouch. Yet, it took 7. I think Vancouver will destroy the bruins.
It’s been like that for a long time. The refs don’t want to be accused of deciding the game, they are only human.
But rules need to be consistent to be fair, otherwise, it’s tainted, painted – and looks orchestrated.
Don’t hold your breath for change as long as Gary “Satan” Bettman is in charge.
we may not like it but the bruins will give the canucks a lot more problems than many posters think…would not suprise me at all if they win the series…
Gary Bettman is Satan. You heard it hear first.
