ZenJM

The Canadiens have a day off today.

Some fans would prefer the team undergo a 60-minute bag skate or 30 minutes with a life insurance salesman.

We can only assume that Jacques Martin, the Bhodisattva of coachly compassion, is taking a more zen-like approach to GETTING THIS COLLECTION OF STIFFS INTO THE PLAYOFFS.

Dare one suggest that a dose of Therrienism might be appropriate?

Or a healthy hit of Alec Baldwin:

Atleast bad digestion is someone who can see reality. Although most on this site are so devoted it clouds thier view of reality.
Reality is last year was a fluke. The system worked in the playlets and so did the goalie,.. that’s it, most teams beat themselves.
The other fact is due to injuries and mediocre players Montreal is very lucky Carey price has got them where they are and very lucky they are in the playoffs.

Teams like Toronto and jersey who had gms make big changes and got off to slow starts as their new rosters find their identities are surpassing Montreal in terms of the future

As ignorant as most habs fans are towards the leafs and Toronto I think it may be time to worry because the future is bleak as long as our main players are Gomez Gianta pleck and subban

  7. Bad Digestion says:

I think missing the playoff could be a benefit for the long run. Last year was a fluke, and it seems it justified poor choices made by the direction. Everybody was so jazzed about the playoff run ,they forgot about the problems that will drag us down for years to come. Missing the playoffs this year, combined with abysmal performances in the last 12-15 games of regular season, might just shake things up. Back to square one.

  8. Rainrocket16 says:

You better believe this team needs days off! Despite our poor efforts, we need solid rest! Our boys may have probably had the worst schedule out of any team in the last 2 months. Then the Habs are banged up bad with injuries. I am starting to get excited for the playoffs and I will never doubt the Habs ability to win in the playoffs! Let’s just hope we finish strong in the final 4 games!

  9. WindsorHab-10 says:

G.S.Giguere is unrestricted @ year’s end. With him being a native of Montreal, his family living there as well, what about making him an offer to back up Price. He can still play(off year this year) and can definitely be a mentor for Price. Any thoughts?

  17. habs001 says:

some posters have mentioned that we should give markov a large long tem contract and if something happens to him we have cap injury help…but the gamble is what if he does not get injured but his playing level just becomes average or a little above average…it will not be an easy decision if he does not take a short tem contract…

    Quick question do you :

    1) sign Markov for more than 3 years
    2) sign Markov only less than 3 years
    3) Let him go as we need cap space to get a big forward
    4) Who’s Markov again ?

    • gK_HabsFan says:

Ideally, you want to sign Markov to less than 3 years. You want to keep him, but also have flexibility if the knee injuries really effect his game.
I expect a 2-3 year contract at about the same dollar value.

Can’t let him go. If he’s healthy, he’s up there with Price and Plekanec in terms of value to the team. Don’t want to see him going to Washington…imagine that!

      -GK-

      • EricInStL says:

Would you trade healthy Markov for Greene + draft pick ? I added a draft pick seeing as Ovie would press Wash to do it at any cost.

Heck unhealthy Markov for Semin might be a good thing ?

        • gK_HabsFan says:

I would, but i doubt Washington would. Green has a more offensive game. He also has more and better years ahead of him.
No way the Caps make that trade.

          -GK-

      • dre1744 says:

yup Plekanec is great we give him a nice contract and he rewards us with an 55 point performance. I hate european players!!!!!!! He sucks at faceoffs most nights aswell oh and before you all bash me about how great defensively he is well big deal we can get defensive guys for cheaper we pay him to score!!!!!!!

        • gK_HabsFan says:

          uhmmm…wow!

I’m no Gomez basher, but get a decent 2nd line center that posts 50-60 points, and i can guarantee you that Pleks game would blossom!

The guy has way too many responsibilities on this team. Scoring, PP, PK, Defending, Defending leads…

It’s become way too easy for opposing teams to defend us. If you shut down Plek’s line, you’ve shut down the entire Montreal offence!

Wiz and Hamr contracts will be off the books. There’s 5.5M and 3.2M freed. Extend Gorges. Give him a raise but not too high (injured knee, hometown discount). Now you have room to sign a “big forward that can score”. Good luck on that lmao. Will probably fail like our quest for a #1 centre.

Great. Toronto just won. Normally, I’d be all a-bubbly seein’ Boston blow a lead and lose at home, but the way this season is goin’ that game between the Leafs and Habs could actually be a factor in Montreal making the playoffs. That’s not how I want the season to end. Habs, do yourself a favour, win in New Jersey. Show us what you’re made of. Don’t wait until the playoffs to turn it on. got all kinds of picks this draft year including 2 number 1s. AND $25 million in cap space to get new TOP PLAYERS in BURKES THIRD FULL SEASON there NOT the 8th here that those 2 losers gainey/gauthier have bungled here in every possible way.

only way habs make the p-layoffs is those teams below keep losing because habs keep playing this way they wont win another game of those last 4,

Habs are run by a doofus high school dropout gainey and gauthier a 30 year loser in the nhl. habs have to replace all those free agent defensemen which will use up their entire cap due to salary inflation and have the gomez $7 million cap yoke around their necks.

    • EricInStL says:

I agree, they seemed to have found a goalie. Their D is physical and sorta mobile. Their offense as average. But if they can get a playmaking center for Kessel than that’s a deal breaker.

Burke says his 2 number 1s are in play.

The offseason is where the deals are at, not the trade deadline.

  30. EricInStL says:

I would so not like to meet the Leafs in the playoffs if they make it.

  31. PrimeTime says:

Happy for the Leafs = great effort!

  32. habs001 says:

the biggest hab problem is that our main forwards are small and not physical yet they have to play too many shifts as our bottom 6 forwards in some combination every game hardley play…plus we have our smaller forwards doing pk…if we had bottom 6 forwards that contribute way more than they do now than having small skilled forwards would be way less of an issue…

  33. timothy13 says:

Okay the Montreal Canadiens have two key defense men injured and several others are playing too many shifts but the team’s heart got trampled and destroyed many games ago. Maybe it after one of several shut out loses, or the terrible lose in Boston 8-6 or when Max P got man handled by Chara but size matters in the NHL and the Habs have been pushed around for many seasons now. But hey the team has a new owner and maybe that will change but it did not @ the trade deadline so who knows what the summer may hold for the team’s unrestricted free agents, trades, etc or whatever, but changes are needed for the Habs. Big time! Carey Price clearly has played too many games and is currently having a melt down. Maybe the team’s game plan is some sort of french philosophy or absurd concept to burn players and moral out but Price needs a break and faith is needed in Auld to carry some of the load. It is a drag how the Habs sneak into the play offs and frankly that means that they really do not belong but by sheer luck they got in by ONE point last season. Hey maybe it will happen this year but last year’s play-off sweep of the first two rounds….forget it….the Habs are a strange team, yes they are and have been my favorite team since the 70s but for too long now they are frustrating and disappointing team to watch. Four games are left and if this team has any sense of being a real contender with heart and determination they will play hard, score, skate, shoot, play 60 minutes and stay out of the penalty box and win four games and that means eight points…………………… ………………….God, the Devil, Mother Mary, I hope this team wakes out and plays like the real team they need to be…………………………

  34. observer says:

Sometimes this site just adds to the sickness in Habsland. I come in to read the comments and randomly come across two threads.

One praising GILL… realistically folks Gill has been one of the better defensemen for the habs but on how many teams would he be number 1-2. The fact that GILL occupies the ‘vaunted’ position he does on our team says a lot.

Second thread laughing at the LEAFS. I hate the Leafs. I lived in Toronto and had to listen to airwaves full of Leaf junk. Just as I used to have to listen to the airwaves here in Ottawa full of Sens junk until I found I could get team990 here in the valley. But I think it’s time we face a little fact right now. If Leafs and Habs , right NOW, had to play one game for a playoff spot.. I would be scared sh****.

I had Lemieux, Molson forming a new league, and Gretzky as the Commish.

Separate throughout the regular season like American and National League in baseball.

The “new ” league would have:

        mandatory visors
        no head hits
        no fighting

They would cross over to play for the Stanley Cup only.

        Man I’m pissed.

Habs hockey is “smart” hockey – we play 5 man defence, not just 2 – we move up the ice as a 5 man unit, we back check with 5.

I haven’t been on here that often lately, was there an explanation from the people who run this site as to why this new format was implemented?

    • punkster says:

Since the format didn’t allow me to reply below I’ll do it here. As one of the Negative Nellie crowd you seem to believe that you hold the key to truth and knowledge of all things Habs related over those who you term as the rose-coloured glasses crowd. I don’t know which is better, to have ones judgment warped by a positive attitude or by an inflated ego. Either way you and I are not likely the best fans to be judging anything with this team as we are polar opposites to the extreme, one overly positive, the other overly negative. As to your statement regarding fans attitudes holding a team back I can only say…please, get a grip.

      ***Subbang Baby!!!***

      • larisalapointe says:

A person with an inflated ego cannot see themselves as one with the Universe. ManApart lives alone with his own ideas which are not contagious. Positive attitudes produce positive energy which is.
So P-Ster, your way is better.

        • ManApart says:

I think you’re getting a little off the point. I don’t have an ego, most of my ideas are along the lines of the vast majority of hockey experts/insiders/journalists etc. It’s not like my take on the Habs is anything different than most non-partisan fans think. It’s you guys who are in the minority. My viewpoints usually mirror the commonly accepted opinions.

          • larisalapointe says:

You chose the name ManApart. Didn’t you?

I hate to break it to you but the vast majority doesn’t agree with you.

And even if they did, it doesn’t make all of you right. The word ego in this case means you only see your views and have little respect for the views of others. Being part of the “in” crowd is silly for adults don’t you think?

        • punkster says:

So true about the positive. And judging from his response to you below your analysis of his ego is bang on.

          ***Subbang Baby!!!***

          • ManApart says:

I know the majority of non-Hab fans have the same opinions as I do, regarding the team. But I’m not overly concerned with proving that. I’m not sure why you say I don’t respect others opinions. Just because I think you’re wrong doesn’t mean I don’t respect you. I’m actually the one who gets attacked by a myriad of characters on this site because people don’t like my opinions, not you. If , Why don’t we discuss in person our differences and see if we can iron them out ;-)

      • ManApart says:

I wouldn’t go that far. I think my view is closer to reality than the positivists on here, and am convinced that management is a huge part of the problem, but don’t think I hold the key to ultimate Hab/hockey knowledge. If I did, shouldn’t I be involved in real hockey management? But now that you mention it, I’m 3 for 3 in my life winning yahoo hockey pools, where you really have to incorporate some serious hockey knowledge, so you may be right!

        • punkster says:

You are definitely a man apart. Hope some day you get it together son.

Is there a funnier video EVER than Therrien? Man, I can watch it a billion times.

    • ManApart says:

I agree, I’ve watched it at least 25 times since he first had that Press conference. He was so honest, so hurt by the team’s performance. I want him back in Montreal.

  45. observer says:

How about Mike Milbury and the Boston hypocrites saying that guys like Toronto’s Jay Rosehill shouldn’t be in this league, just because he beat the crap out of Lucic tonight. Plus they also have injured Chara here’s hoping it is serious – they don’t know his condition as the 2nd period ended Boston 3 Toronto 2. Isles lead Rangers 4-1 after 2 periods.

How does Canadian taxpayer funded CBC hire this American Boston expert in his own mind – a record worse than Gauthier as a GM?

  46. Lafrich says:

Lucic fight is on tsn.ca already. I never thought I would root so hard for Toronto, but I was yelling at the screen for Rosehill to pound Lucic.

  47. novahab says:

Allen Eaglson was very poweful at one time and all the jounalist were afraid of him to. Crooks have a way of getting caught, time caught up to the Eagle and time will catch Bettman I hope.

  48. novahab says:

My God Bettman has the NHL in a mess the refs could teach the Mafia tricks on fixing sporting event. There is no drug testing policy outside the off season what a joke that is. This Pheonix crap smells of kick backs and pay offs. The Habs are getting crap on because of the letter and the fans complaining about a deadly head hit and no suspension. What I wish for is the headline, FBI invesitages Bettman or one journalist just one brave soul that has the guts to do the dirty work and expose this crook.

  49. Kimberly2u says:

    Go Islanders go…..:)

  50. Islanders 4th goal came when they had 3 guys at the net. Habs, hope you are watching

  51. Ton says:

Good game tonight. Leafs and bruins. What pisses me off is even the leafs have guys that could give lucic a beating. Orr, rosehill, etc. Got like the job Burke is doing rebuilding that team. They got close. I am concerned how our youth is developing.

    • StevieM61 says:

That’s the problem…our youth are not developing..Thay get butt splinters while pylons like Gill get icetime.

      Bullet holes in my mirrors . . . .

      • SeriousFan09 says:

Are you serious? If not for Hal Gill our PK would be in the bottom 3rd of the league likely and Subban would not be where is right now.

        – I shall always remember Captain Koivu. Habs and Hockey.

        • StevieM61 says:

          OK
Apparently you have a tentative grip on reality here.
Gill does as “well” as he does because of a ten and a half foot hockey stick. He also gets as many stupid penalties for the same reason.
He is slower than 3/4 of the players in the league.
Sure, if he just lies down during the PK he will block 50% of the shots due to sheer bulk.
Honestly, the guy was brought in as the guy who won a Stanley cup with the Pens.
Ya sure, getting 4 minutes ice time per game . . .Not impressed.
I guess we will just have to agree to disagree.

          Bullet holes in my mirrors . . . .

          • punkster says:

Whoa…who has the slippery grip here tonight?

            ***Subbang Baby!!!***

          • SeriousFan09 says:

Hal Gill is 5th amongst Habs defencemen for PIMs, 43 on his season, which is about 1/3 of what Subban has taken this year. Thanks for playing.

Numerous analysts and reporters give Gill credit for his PK abilities.

            – I shall always remember Captain Koivu. Habs and Hockey.

          • StevieM61 says:

You guys been watching these games ?
Yes, Subban has been a bright light for the Habs, but why would you seem to think it is all because of Gill?
Sorry, just no way you can expect a young, mobile defenseman like Subban to excel while playing with someone who has the footspeed of a dwarf from Lord of the Rings.
Subban is good and mobile because he is young and does not drag around 300 lbs of crap with him.
Sure, he is not a hulk that sweeps bodies from in front of the net but he avoids having to do that ……..period.

Gill invites it by having guys burn past him on the outside.

            Bullet holes in my mirrors . . . .

        • ManApart says:

Hal Gill is not a great defenceman no matter how you look at it. Gotta love the guys leadership, but he’s a 3rd pairing guy. I’m almost sure he doesn’t return next season. And no, PK would be exactly where he is if Gill were not here. Let’s not kid ourselves, PK has a ways to go before his defensive game is elite.

          • punkster says:

I’m almost sure Gill will be here next season and PK would not be where he is if Gill were not here.

            ***Subbang Baby!!!***

          • SeriousFan09 says:

Mentoring of young players is often key to their development. Gill sticking with PK has improved his defensive game a lot to the point where he is the go-to guy on the PK with Gill now, a role he never, ever played in Hamilton as Boucher kept him nailed to the bench on the kill in the AHL.

Gill’s been a big part of the team for two years, Subban’s grown quite a bit this season playing next to Hal.

            – I shall always remember Captain Koivu. Habs and Hockey.

        • LeeFree says:

          totally aree with that

    • larisalapointe says:

I was watching our teams’ last game against Minny to soothe my soul but seeing Lucic pounded a little gave me more pleasure. lol

      • ManApart says:

Hey Punkster, You also thought the Habs were a Cup contender or at least one piece away….

        • punkster says:

Check your facts, Torn. Been saying since last summer they were a couple of years from a contender, with a full roster still a big D and a big Centre short of a contender. The proof is in dozens of posts. Do your research.

          ***Subbang Baby!!!***

          • ManApart says:

I get all you rose coloured guys mixed up, maybe that was JoeyBarrie. All I know is the Rose coloured guys, have their judgement warped by their fandom, to semi quote Mark Recchi, and are holding the team back by supporting the rotten management that’s been going on here for the past 7 years.

      • ManApart says:

It’s impossible to measure, but I think PK’s growth has a lot more to do with PK himself and the coaching staff rather than Hal Gill. Let’s just say if Gill doesn’t return next year, I’m not worried about PK’s growth stagnating.

    • SeriousFan09 says:

Orr’s out with post-concussion issues and has been for months. We don’t need professional boxers on this team, last time we had one Lucic just skated away from him.

Two of their 3 best goal scorers have nothing to do with Burke in Grabovski and Kulemin. Every goaltender Burke called ‘his guy’ in Gustavsson, Toskala and Giguere fell flat on their faces, Reimer had nothing to do with his rebuild but he’s saving Burke from angry mobs with pitchforks. Schenn wasn’t his and his high-dollar FA defencemen Komisarek… oops.

      – I shall always remember Captain Koivu. Habs and Hockey.

      • ManApart says:

Burke was seriously digging himself a hole with stupid moves and pick ups, but it seems like he did an about face this trade deadline and may have turned a corner. This off season is big and I know Burke is going to do everything he can to land Brad Richards. Next season is big, because it’s time for TO. to make the playoffs in year 3 of Burkes rebuild.

  52. Nina76 says:

Mattyleg……………..Wish I had your confidence .Same old excuses from the players..get yourself dirty around the net & SHOOT the PUCK………..& JM for the love of Pete play PK & Eller more……..you have to be nuts, play your younger players the older ones are not doing a thing…GO HABS GO!!!!!!!

  53. StevieM61 says:

    OK
Now that this is all changed..
Can anyone tell me how I get the picture of my fave hooker to come up with my posts?

    Bullet holes in my mirrors . . . .

  54. Propwash says:

Maybe, but Gomez still sucks……. ;)

    • StevieM61 says:

      Will not argue that…
Maybe he’s too busy online buying sports garments so he can feel like a real player.

      Bullet holes in my mirrors . . . .

  55. StevieM61 says:

    Frack off china grrrrlll

    Bullet holes in my mirrors . . . .

  56. punkster says:

Oh-ohhh. Tony’s gonna be in a foul mood tonight. 2-1 Bruins.

    ***Subbang Baby!!!***

  57. punkster says:

That goal celebration of Marchand’s is very disrespectful.

    ***Subbang Baby!!!***

  58. Chris79 says:

Holy C*** Michael Cammalleri does not look good or motivated to Play… just saw an interview of him.. Totally ghost..

  59. WestHab says:

  60. LA Loyalist says:

Here’s today’s query: (seeing as you guys are on such a roll)

WHAT (if anything) is in JM’s little notebook? Bread baking tips from Bob? His wife’s grocery list? What? Feel free to pull no punches.

  61. 4m3y2j says:

    john slattery

I think the Pacioretti hit has done more damage than any of us can imagine to this teams psyche.People can say all they want about them being professional, they are human beings foremost and they have always been a team that t=thrives off of positive emotions. This seems beyond a malaise to me,and I hate saying that btw. Also in terms of leadership I don’t feel Gionta is really invested, something is dividing this team, something is off.Just hope they can find a way to right it as this current string feels like a never ending portishead album…..

  62. StevieM61 says:

If, by “bag skate” , you mean J.M. gets to skate around with a plastic bag over his head for 60 minutes ( remember kids. . . .don”t try this at home ) then I am all for it..

  63. habs001 says:

leafs up 1-0 on boston ..still in the firts…pp leafs 2 bruins 0…not that i care that the bruins get beaten but this ref bias towards the leafs is getting comical…

  64. OneTimer says:

Haha wow, did anyone else hear the anthem singer in Boston? I’ve never heard the Star-Spangled Banner so dramatic…in a bad way.

  65. JohnBellyful says:

I hate to break it to you guys, but JM and the gang isn’t listening to us. Heck, he doesn’t even pick up the phone anymore. Line combinations, defence pairings, power play units – HE’S NOT LISTENING.
Sorry, I don’t usually raise my letters, but it just had to be said. And please don’t pout. If JM is too stubborn to listen – sure, he’s coached over 1,000 NHL games, but how many posts has he done? Heck, the bunch of us have a 1,000 rung up in two nights, so that collective wisdom has got to count for something. More than the 1,000 posts, of course.
No matter what JM thinks, HIO people have something to offer. We know Hockey Inside Out.
So what if we refuses to heed our counsel, we can still help his team. IF WE PUT OUR MINDS TO IT.
Sorry, sorry, sometimes I get worked up about my favourite team.
Here’s what we do. Five minutes before game time Saturday, we meet here and synchronize our brains. As soon as the game starts, we start channelling our combined psychic energy into the Habs players, willing them to skate faster, shoot harder, to actually stand in front of the other team’s net (when play is in that end, of course).
The Devils won’t know what hit them. The Habs won’t either. But we will. Because it’s our will.
I’m fully confident we’ve got enough mental power to make a difference.
    Don’t we?

    • punkster says:

Unfortunately we’re only as strong as our weakest link and I question the “mental power” of some of us. Yes, I said “us”.

      ***Subbang Baby!!!***

      • JohnBellyful says:

Yeah, I hear you … hey, wait a minute, us? As in me, you and other posters. I’ve got news for you. There’s no M-E in U-S. … Come to think of it, there is. Maine. Near Massachusetts. Home of the Bruins. I hate the Bruins.

I don’t think I’ll be able to focus Saturday. Can you fill in for me?

    • I will be at the Prudential Center on Sat night so I can serve as the collective medium to channel the positive energy coming for the HIO commentariat and transfer it our Habs. Anyone there to join me? We can use all the help we can get. Bring your rabbit’s foot, horse shoe and lucky charm.
