If JM wasn’t 67 years old he’d probably have assumed the pit bull’s position already. A Leafs win would make for some interesting moments on l’antichambre and morning radio. Here’s to avoiding that. As for captain, Gorges. ”A” to Gionta and Moen. Let’s have some balls running the show. I agree with whoever posted that tonight would be the time to name a Captain, quietly, without trying to make it look like the next Governor General is being crowned.
With these Habs, what sucks is that they like to make you wait anxiously. I’m telling you tonight will be a blowaout. It’s like the eveyso hyped up Canada-Russia game, we all know how that ended! Chill.
I’m deep in enemy territory and what makes it more annoying are my cousins who don’t watch hockey at all and who just live for Toronto beating Montreal. Ugh!
”I gotta feeling…that tonight’s gonna be a good night!”
I’m not surprised Boone, I have been saying this since Feburary when I noticed who they were playing in the last game. I’m in Leaf land so I bought a fresh pack of razor blades just in case….lol! At least we still have a first round pick and watching the lottery on Tuesday will actually be enjoyable….they should make Burke attend it. Go Habs Go! ”You miss 100% of the shots you never take.” – Wayne Gretzky
Something tells me the Habs will have “gotta get them to OT” written all over their game.
What’s the point really? Does anybody here really think the Habs can win a playoff series? I’ll watch, but then again we all stretch our necks for traffic accidents and other train wrecks.
Putting a “C” on someone would be fantastic, and about time. Putting a “C” on Gionta, would be the perfect choice, IMO. However, would it be fair to lay that on anyone at this point? One game to go, and either playoffs or the golf course looming? By the way, if you have not seen the fans tribute to Modano in Dallas last night (possibly his final game in front of the home fans) you must watch it. Modano was always all class, again, IMO.
I live in enemy territory. I’ve had my Habs flag ripped off my car sveral times. If they lose tonight, it’ll be a looong summer and my neighbors will NEVER let me forget it. Our boys better put on their big girl panties and win this sucker or else.
unlike last time when leafs were fighting just as hard to make it ,this time they are out of it , so hit him hard and early and by the second they will be packing for an early start of vacation.
to be or not to be ,that is the question ..whether it is nobler in the mind to suffer the slings and arrows of outrageous fortune , or to arm againstt a sea of troubles and by so opposing end them……
once again you nailed it Boone, we NEED to start strong, first goal is huge, I would think we should get our share of Power play opportunities, the NHL owes us from the last time we played these jokers on our final Saturday night of the year, Mikey Ryder had us in good shape after 2 periods, then the Leafs PowerPlay Festival at the ACC kicked into high gear and we got screwed by that big goof Sundin and company…. I’m goin with 5-2 Habs with 3 for Cammy, I know it’s a stretch but who knows, I do know that I want the WIN tonight, not an OT/SHOOTOUT LOSS
Looking into my crystal ball, I see the Habs backing into the playoffs on Sunday afternoon and Philly being the odd team out on the tie-breaker formula. Unfortunately, the misery will be prolonged for another day.
Betcha Philly is regretting that they passed up on Halak. The way the Hab’s season has gone, I wouldn’t be surprised if an unlikely player (Price) will be the team’s MVP in the playoffs.
Man am I ever tired of this scenario the Habs have been putting to us Fans over and over ,again and again! So tonight’s GONNA BE DIFFERENT I TELL YOU cause I’m putting a BIG PIECE OF PLEXIGLAS in front of the big screen and then shrink wrapping the f**ker and the some chain link fencing and a poly floor and then a 24 case of wobbly beer bullets(Molsons, lol)………
That picture is priceless Mr. Boone lol! As far as the game goes tonight, I am going to start drinking earlier than usual on a saturday because if I wait until puck drop time, my nerves will be too shot to even hold my Canadiens beer stein steady enough to be able to drink it without spilling it all over the floor. Making Gionta captain on the last game of the season would be putting an awfully lot of pressure on a guy with a game of such importance don’t you think? I’m not against it mind you, it’s that we have gone all season without one and I don’t see the point of choosing one now I guess.
Don’t sweat tonight’s game Superman in the guise of John Tortarella is gonna get the Habs to the show. It’s a thankless job, but Jacques Martin can’t do it!
81 out of 82 games without having a Captain on the team and Tinkerbell will come down to put that special magic “C” on Gointa’s jersey? No disrespect for Gionta, but the last game of the season to name a Captain?
Wow! This should have been scripted into another Habs’ motion picture! I
Will Tinkerbell then cast a magic spell on us so that we all love each other and forgive the players for the ugly sesaon they have shown on the ice ?
Sorry, I don’t agree naming a Captain tonight or if we make the playoffs, too late in the season in my opinion.
Great marketing ploy by the Club if they do this but I don’t buy into what they are trying to prove tonight?
Sell more jersey with a C on the crest of a Gorges, Gionta, Gill, Cammallerri, etc.?
Shame on the club.
“We will win the Cup one day only with ? in the nets “
Granted by the time Plante and Moore played in Toronto they were completely washed up and Corson used to drive me crazy in whichever uniform he wore but I don’t think the Leafs ever got the better of the trade or acquisition when dealing with Montreal’s castoffs.
Anyway, it was great to remember the Big M making such an impact in Montreal and when I was a kid, I though Dick Duff was a good, all round player. Vinnie had his moments and while Gilmour and Perreault were marginal in the sense that they weren’t around that long in Montreal, they both came in a did a good job while they were with the Habs.
I could add Komisarek and Grabowski just ’cause it was good to see them both leave Montreal.
It’s a sad day when I have to root for the Flyers but I can’t count on my Habs for a win tonight. They’re going to be so tight that they won’t be able to fart.
Also said during second intermission that he looked good by the tower in the background, and suggested he SHOULD go stand by it. A remark he’ll likely pay for next game by being hit on the head some piece of hockey equipment.
This will be a tough series for the Habs. Likely they will get smeared but, if the stars align, it is not out of the realm of possibilites for them to pull off an upset.
Wow, the Leafs stuck it to the Habs. Outplayed them. Habs looked physically weak and scared, didn’t want to compete for the pucks.
Jaro’s performance the past few games has been really worrisome. He was an absolute sieve the past two games when it really counted. Between him and Price the Habs have a real problem in goal for the playoffs, which would be a bigger problem if the team didn’t suck so bad anyway.
Halak is very weak right now…but i don’t think pulling him would be the answer.. putting Price in there cold might cause problems. We’re not down it’s no time to panic…yet
“Goaltending is a normal job, sure. How would you like it in your job if every time you made a small mistake, a red light went on over your desk and 15,000 people stood up and yelled at you.” -Plante
Yesterday a friend of mine who is a big Habs fan and also a big Price fan was going on and on about how badly Halak played in the last 2 games and how he wants him gone in the offseason. I asked him what he thought about the 2 shut-outs and he said they were against shitty teams (nevermind the fact that those shitty teams badly outplayed and outshot the Habs) He got so bad that at one point he was all but saying he hoped the Habs would lose tonights game and not make the playoffs and that it be Halaks fault. What kind of fan has that attitude? You can like more then one center on a team, and you can like more then one winger or defenseman on the team. Why the hell can’t you like more then one goalie on a team? And better yet, why do you have to hope the team loses unless your chosen goalie is playing. That’s messed up.
Sorry but wrong answer… if it was for Jaro, ONLY… the team would have only 26 wins… Also, last time I checked, Halak had a 0 in the goals column, because he’s part of a team, not THE team…
…Jaro despite rising to 1-A from under Carey’s shadow …has had I am sure a stressful year …He is starting to show the stress and pressure
…yet, does ANYONE doubt that the ONLY reason the Montreal Canadiens would be fighting the Toronto Weedz to confirm a Playoff position tonight rather than fighting the SAME Weedz for a high-draft-position is not SOLELY because of Jaroslav Halak ???
…there is ONLY one-choice of WHO will start the first-game of these playoffs …and THAT is Jaroslav Halak !
…Game 2 ? …we’ll have to wait & see
…thank Goodness for Jaro …otherwise We would not be close enough to hallucinate any chance of Number 25 this season
So is he…is he every gonna realize he needs to retire.
“Goaltending is a normal job, sure. How would you like it in your job if every time you made a small mistake, a red light went on over your desk and 15,000 people stood up and yelled at you.” -Plante
I agree – Halak should have been pulled after the third goal…I hope JM is smarter if that happens in the playoffs. I also think that Price deserves a playoff start if Halak has a repeat performance. But inlike many here, I am not hoping for Halak (or price) to fail.

JM should have started Price. JM’s press release could have been Halak got a shoulder injury in the 2nd. Horrible guttless coach. Nutless wonder like my dog.
Just for the sake of watching good hockey I really want Boston to lose tomorrow. Would be fun to watch Habs Vs Caps. really though I always want Boston to lose.
Good team game. There was one goal that tried to go in four times and failed. These things happen when you leave everything till the last game. Not quite as soft as a post coital phallus. Andrei was a disaster, despite the fact that he was playing with more heart than usual. Doesn’t seem to have a clear idea of what it is he’s supposed to do in either end of the rink. I thought at one point in the third when he once again dumped it in for Pleks to retrieve, that I could see a look of frustration on Tomas’s face.
Gomez, Gionta, Gill, showing up with bells on for the team’s biggest game of the year (ironically vs. the league’s worst team)… Except for Gio, you guys crap all over Gomer and Gill all year long praising the overvalued Pleks, overrated Markov and the chosen fluky one, Jaro.
It’s not so much hating the team you root for, there are plenty of Habs I hated over the years (Bobby Smith for one), it’s more hate coming out and being misinterpreted for passionate defending of one’s personal direction for the team, in the old days, all we had to vent was Ted Tevan’s radio show on CFCF but we have the internet and it’s instant gratification, baby! We’re all sports journalists here, we’re all head coaches and we’re all GMs.
And some times, it’s just being the devil’s advocate and even other times it’s really learning to dislike a player (like Halak) for all the misguided accolades for him at the expense of the other player (Price).
If Hab fans had any effin’ brains, they’d realize that patience is the key to the team reaching the heights they once lived at. No patience though and kneejerk reactions bring heated exchanges and false idolatry…
I never knew having a bad game meant having the two worst goalies in the league…
“Goaltending is a normal job, sure. How would you like it in your job if every time you made a small mistake, a red light went on over your desk and 15,000 people stood up and yelled at you.” -Plante
So you saw him get us into the 2nd round with 2 SO’s including game 7 against BOS. I love how Price is forever defined by games 3 and 5 against PHI 2 YEARS AGO!! Last season the team gave up long before the playoffs started and left him all alone in the BOS series. I say Halak should get game 1, but after that nothing should be guaranteed to Jaro. He’s lost 6 of his last 9 starts and has looked shaky the last 3. Maybe he’s tired and time off will be what he needs.
That lost point is pretty big. If we had have got it, we’d secure 7th and have a shot at 6th (If Boston lost tomorrow). Now, we have secured 8th, and only get 7th if the Rangers win. Philly will have more wins if they make it, and we’ll have to play Washington.
OK, JM should NOT have started Price – in the biggest game of the season, you start your best goalie, and that’s halak – but he should have pulled Halak after the third goal for sure.

Well, going to the playoffs…but this doesn’t bode well for us. Backing in, looking like a pee-wee team. What was good about tomight, other than Gionta playing his usual great game, and Cammy finally showing some fire again? Halak looked just awful, JM is still an idiot, and the team looked scared in a big game. No fire to win – just fear of the loss. I don’t forsee an upset in the playoffs – but you never know, and that’s why they play the games.

agreed but OB makes me way to nervous in our zone with his passes…come to think of it they both do.
“Goaltending is a normal job, sure. How would you like it in your job if every time you made a small mistake, a red light went on over your desk and 15,000 people stood up and yelled at you.” -Plante
Well, it’s been an exciting 82 games. Alot of people did not expect this newly thrown together team to even make it in the playoffs so I’m proud of them. I like the Habs…the habs are cool…GO F. HABS GO
i disagree…. it was against the leafs who have 1 nhl calibre forward… gill is a liability and plays way too many minutes… he is -9.. probably more after tonight… he is up there with MAB for defensive crap… MAB has an upside though if he gets his rocket away
I really think that we should start Price for the first game and allow Halak to recharge his mental strength sitting on the bench. The book on Halak is out. He has a big hole on his high glove hand. It gets worse when he is tired and the reaction is not there.
F**king TO…Even when the Habs get the point they needed, the Loafs still get the last laff by denying the Habs the chance to get to 6th. Still gotta hope the Rangers win tomorrow, rather play Jersey than Washington. Self explanatory…
At least Wilson had the class not to pull the goalie, big suprise there…would have just fed the HATE for TO to all new levels.
Stiil the way it all went down this week does not leave a good impression…maybe they really hate JM. Sure didn’t play like they wanted to be in the palyoffs. Can’t say i blame them, he flaky as they get. This team is way better with their foot on the petal, he not that kind of a coach, bring on Boucher. Plus, SK should have played tonight…
I like Halak but I am not ready to bet the bank on him and thats not because of tonight, Let’s just get the hell into the playoff’s boys !! GO HABS GO !! GO HABS GO !!
Very classy of both teams to shake the ref’s hand — it’s stuff like that which makes me proud of this sport. Would have loved to have heard what the players said to him.
What do you think about Pouliot hiting the post twice? Cammalleri lighting it up in the last 25 minutes of the game? The many, many, chances the Habs got all night? Some analysis, please.
Why couldn’t this be like game 7 vs boston when the habs won 5-0…. you know before you were nervous but after the first you were confident ….im nervous throughout this whole game…im not gonna make it to the end!
Hmm. So you think that Martin should have pulled Halak after the third goal when it was still tied and put Price in so he could potentially let the losing goal in (during regulation) and possible be held responsible by fans for the Habs maybe missing the playoffs?
Leafs are fearless in our zone, no O’Byrne means they don’t have to face any really hard checking in our zone. We need him to crush Kessel and Bozak into dust in our zone.
No, brother, I’ve been positive all season, this is realism setting in… don’t clinch vs. lowly Isles, don’t clinch vs. lowly Canes, getting their jock handed to them by very lowly Leafs…
It is amazing how bad the Habs can be, isn’t it? With any kind of stakes or pressure they just fold like the badly coached little under-achieving midgets that they are.
People laugh at the Leafs roster, but how many goals did both teams score this year?
And Gionta with nearly 30 goals in an injury shortened season. All keepers, but we need more shooters. Do you think PG can pull one or two out of his posterior somehow this summer?
Man, Halak is not and i repeat NOT a clutch goalie! In our most important game of the year our supposed number 1 goalie plays his worst! Mark my words even if we make the playoffs by default (God knows we haven’t earned it) Halak will not steal us a series. BUt who cares, it doesnt matter what goalie plays net, this team just has no pride. God awful. I wish we had 20 Giontas on our team, who cares about physical size, his heart makes him play like he’s 6’3!
I don’t get to listen to Bob Cole very often, since I live in NYC, but MAN is that guy a homer. WOW. He is torture to listen to. Every play is described like a 9-year-old fan of the Leafs would call it.
and Gill doesn’t have an upside? did you see him poke the puck out of harms way like 4 times tonight? I agree he’s not the best defence we have but he sure brings stuff to the table.
right now Henrik Sedin is fighting for the art ross trophy (has 2 assists this game) and henrik is trying to set a personal record for goals in a season shortened by injuries.
funny that in the summer half the people on this site didn’t want them because they were soft euros lol.

“I like what I’m seeing right now,” assessed Markov. “We’re not perfect, but we’re trying to be.”
Am I the only one frightened to face the Caps instead of the Devils or Sabres? Man a win would have been great. At least now I can rub my friends collective Oilers and Flames cheering noses in it. Playoffs are better than golf, no matter what the outcome!
Praise the day that Lapierre is placed on waivers!!!
Hey, I’m on the same page with you about Markov and Pleks, a little overrated in Markovs case and VERY overrated in Pleks case. Could do without the Kost brothers, would be willing to give Pouliot another go next year.
When it comes to the goalies, they are both great, the team just sucks butt hole. Gainey needs to be fired…err.
go philly! i wanna see us play washington. at least we can skate with them. we’ll still get crushed most of the time, but still. i don’t want nj. boring + marty.
how many millions of dollars do you need to be able to hit the net on a point shot? or does MAB miss a lot b/c he’s purposely aiming for corners? i don’t get it.
Halak has clearly had more success this season, but after 3 poor games. Or at least mediocre games, You gotta go with Price. But what message does that send Halak? It is supposed to be win and your in, but JM has clearly moved away from that in the last 3 games………..He should not have. Switching Price and Halak as they lose would have given us at least 1 win in the last 3. against the worst teams in the NHL.
Starting to think the problem here is the coach.
There may be other teams, but only ONE Club De Hockey…
I doubt that will happen, if they make it to a 3-X series i’m sure they will decide who takes the cup… ———– ”Playing goal is like being shot at.” – Jacques Plante
I’d start Price. You never know. If he sharts the bed, back to Halak. Kid needs a rest. We play well against DC. Besides, Ovenchicken is fried, Price might rise to the occasion. Grow a nutbag JM
Because of his season, he brings back the most in a trade. Anybody who knows anything knows Carey Price is the one to keep long term (discussed here ad nauseum), superb talent, excellent athleticism and when he gets a little maturity into his head, he’ll be the goalie everybody wants him to be yesterday. Halak, yeah, a battler and all but games like he played tonight (where the chips were down) are a real eye opener for a 25 year old netminder, I guarantee you see more of that nervousness in the Playoffs.
agreed …we play to the level of the teams we face all the time…good team=the habs play good bad team=the habs play bad….
this game im not sure about at the moment because right now we’re getting more opportunities than the leafs just their goalie is playing better…granted we’re kind of making giggy look good but chances are chances
Oh, please make it so! Finally made the plunge and picked up my Gionta t-shirt when we were in Mtl last weekend. If they play with half the heart and skill they did against Buffalo, none of the other scenarios will matter and all will be well in Habsland.
Would you really wanna do that to Price? Throw him in against the Caps or Devils so when they lose 4 straight everyone can jump on him and say it was his fault?
I have to agree completely with this comment. There is no way you pull your goalie in the 3rd when you are tied. Even if the goal was a little malodorous.
talk about backing in , I ll take it but woh , and what about goaltending , halik did not help his cause tonight , we needed a save or to and didnt get it.
I have to agree completely with this comment. There is no way you pull your goalie in the 3rd when you are tied. Even if the goal was a little malodorous.
And suddenly, as the horseshoe finally drops out of his behind, you all are realizing Halak ain’t the goalie y’all thought he was… chips are down and he sucks. POINT FINALE!
Sigh. Glad to see pouliot and cammy – both who are not only playing poorly but creating turn overs and missng great chances get PP time. Benny or Cammy should be sitting, not sergei.
Sigh. Glad to see Gomez playing well and gio/mab/mark. I think everyone is playing good back end, Halak and Hamrlik not including of course. (for this game)
yes i did see him poke check a few away but i still respectfully disagree with you.maybe poke checking the puck away is an upside but it doesn’t negate the downside, which is much larger. i just think he is awful
1) The players who needed to play well did. Gionta, Markov, Gomez, Cammalleri, Bergeron… all had very good games. And the PP looked as good as it has in while. Yes, it was the Leafs, but you need to start somewhere.
2) AK46 hasn’t played a decent game since he came back form injury. He looks lazy out there. I said it before the game, it should have been him and not Sergei in the press-box. Best shifts of the night from the Pleks line were when Darche played there. If Andreis’ going to stay in the line-up, I’d like to see him play with Sergei and maybe Moore at center.
3) Halak was not good tonight. If you’re Martin, you can’t go into the playoffs with Carey, who hasn’t played significantly in forever. It has to be Halak to start. But I think jaro’s leash just got a bit shorter. He has to deliver a good game in Game 1 and a win on the road, or I think Carey gets a shot. Changing goalies if you’re down 3 is too late.
4) Glad to avoid Pittsburgh in the first round. This Habs team hasn’t been healthy all year and they don’t play well against bottom-feeders, as the last week will suggest. But they pick up their game against top teams and they are as healthy now as they’ve been all year so an upset is not impossible. Washington’s goaltending and D is suspect. Buffalo and NJ rely more on D, and Brodeur is not the same goalie he was 5 years ago. Miller is a great goalie but Buf is not a team with a ton of playoff experience, so frankly any of those teams could fall victim to an upset by Mtl, Bos, or even the Rangers. Not sure Philly has the goaltending to pull one off, but for my money, the Habs have a chance, and once you get through the first round anything’s possible.
We have actually played Washington, Pittsburgh and Buffalo not bad this year. The problem though is that the league wants a Washington/penguin showdown and there is NO WAY they will let either one lose in the first round if they can help it. So I am sure the officials will be given explicit instructions.
That being said, with all he injuries early on getting in is a bit of a victory for them. Feels kind of hollow though.
the habs were really good tonight, phyiscal and fast.
the leafs had nothing, nada, niet!
the only reason they won is because halak had an off night, giguerre swallowed his pride and shoved a horseshoe up his rectum and the posts had alot of work.
the habs deserved teh win, but stuff like this happens in hockey.
but ya let’s crucify one of the main reasons we are even in the playoffs. I guess back to back shutouts don’t
mean much. Or winning five games in a row after facing 40 plus shots in each of the,. Nope, no one on the
habs can ever have an off night.
it’s patehtic how we throw players who have platyed thier hearts out under the bus due to 1 or 2 performances.
——————
“I like what I’m seeing right now,” assessed Markov. “We’re not perfect, but we’re trying to be.”
That being said, we were clearly unlucky tonight. 4 posts, all by our two snakebit players…….. Shake it for the playoffs and lets look to upset…….We should have taken notes tonight.
There may be other teams, but only ONE Club De Hockey…
thought the team dominated tonight, giggy loved the posts and crossbars for sure…Jaro, you saved our baccon many times this year, tonight the team saved his…1st and 3rd goals :S
Cammy and Benny are unbelievably snake bit…hopefully they (and Jaro) find old form come next week and we can upset!
Halaka played as I expected….he had a good run and got us into the playoffs but now it’s time to start a Canadian goalie who single-handedly won the AHL cup. PG probably “has” to sign Halak over Price unless he steals a round or two in the playoffs. If not he will likely be get an Offer Sheet by PHI and will win it all again in a few years and you idiots will choke on crow while Halaka plays to keep the Habs right where they are now year after year. Those who disagree are simply WRONG and it will be proven.
Bipolar or Manic-Depressive Disorder is a disease than can treated.
The System has passed its first test: getting the Habs to the playoffs. A gelling of epic proportions is about to occur. Can’t you all feel it! Plan the parade!!!
I would have started Price tonight and I would start him in game 1 of the playoffs. We have rotated goalies all year long….you win you play again, you lose your out. Halak has not played good the past 3 games, which have all been losses. So using JM’s mo for the year Price should have had a start either against Carolina or Toronto but JM has apparently dropped that philosophy. I don’t understand because Price has played pretty good since the Olympics. So what does Price think right now….he played fantastically against Buffalo and Carolina but lost and didn’t get the next start, while Halak loses 3 straight games and still starts. Now don’t spam me with that I’m a Price lover blah blah I’m just looking out for what’s best for the team and I don’t see how Price mentally can be feeling good right now, if Halak loses game 1 and JM goes with Price for game 2 how does Carey react? Ex: I finally get a start after 4 straight losses by Halak but when I lose 1 game I’m out of the net. Head games and for a goalie that is just as important as the physical game.
Been a Habs fan since I was in 2nd grade and sat behind Patrick Roy at the Aud.
We’re not the worst! We’re not the worst! Honestly, I would rather take some playoffs good or bad versus no playoffs…because people are glad that there are playoffs does not mean that people are satisfied with being average or mediocre…people want the team to win the Cup each and every year and the first and most important step to achieve that is to make the playoffs whether or not the team sucks…
First step achieved….get to the playoffs…
Second step: get something positive done in the playoffs…winning a game would be a good start and then you go from there.
The team results indicate that they do not deserve to be in the playoffs, but they sucked it up to the best of their ability and let’s see what kind of cojones they decide to grow to succeed in the playoffs.
Good luck to the Habs and take these next few days to get yourselves in order. GO HABS GO
bergeron, i take back everything i’ve said about you. hammer is our worst d tonight. gomez is worth his weight in gold tonight. gio is gio and Halak is making me extremely nervous. i have never seen him fight the puck like this ever. he has been bad tonight. leafs have had 3 scoring chances all game. go habs go
I don’t care who JM starts in goal but he needs someone who can stop the puck!!! The Habs should have blitzed TO tinite, but couldn’t do the job. I would put a bag of twinkies on a bet that Halak is gone by draft day for a big forward with hands. Go habs go in the playoffs, and I can smell a long series with hopefully the Devils. Teams that often limp into the playoffs pose the biggest problems for the better teams. Can you smell an upset?
agreed. despite what people think we still don’t have a number one and back up annointed. we have two young goalies platooning. you lose three in a row, its the other guys turn. no matter what
VERY classy , and a very good game. We …. they had hit the post TWICE in OT….man….no reason to pout…WERE IN!!! As far as the goalie situation….we have 2 of them…so lets be PUMPED….one game at a time now!!!
Why do the Habs always play so scared?? Where’s the belief? Where’s the guts, huh?? What a bunch of cowards. Wow this reminds me of 2007, I actually broke furniture that year, here’s hoping to avoid a repeat.
Some bright spots! I thought Mab showed for the most part alot of poise on defense. Oh for a young Larry Robinson back there on defense. I think OByrne is better than the bench but he is learning some lesson?
So we did not back into the playoffs but side stepped elimination?
Yeah, we’re in. Not a great way of doing it but the important thing is we’re in. Now we get to see if all the playoff experience Bob added pays off. Let’s pray it’s not Jersey.
Pluses for tonight
-Gomez. He showed up big time tonight. He seemed to be everywhere and was our best player.
-Pouliot. Best game he’s played in a long time. I hope he’s got whatever message JM was trying to send him and that line has got to play like this every game from here on out.
-Cammy. Came oh so close a bunch of times and played he best game since coming back. Hopefully this is an indicator that he’s ready to do some damage in the playoffs.
-MAB. Scored the eventual playoff clinching goal with a bullet. Wasn’t too horrid on D tonight.
Minuses
-Halak. WTF was that? 4 soft goals and you made Christian Hanson look like Sid the Kid. He get’s a mulligan in the Carolina game, the whole team stunk but he was horrible tonight and against the Islanders. He’s proving to not be the money goalie some thought he was. He better find his game and quick. There’s no question he’s going to start the playoffs but if we get behind in the count quickly and he plays like he did these past few games, hopefully JM has the balls to put Price in. I’m not pumped.
-JM. Why they hell did you even bother dressing OB? He played two shifts and the first one wasn’t until the 10 minute mark. I’ve never seen a a guy get benched at the start of the game. I also don’t know why he doesn’t seem to like the Kostitsyns very much but AK46 to me seemed to be playing well tonight. I have no clue why he was benched in the third.
I wish Price had never won that Calder Cup. It has seriously affected peoples expectations of him and it is still used in arguments three years later as to why it is just obvious that he will be a superstar.
Price has the potential to be an extremely good goalie. Sergei Kostitsyn has the potential to be a star player. Where is the difference?
I really really hope the Rangers win tomorrow. If it is a Washington-Montreal 1st round I am going to have a rough time.
Live outside of DC and got my playoff tickets yesterday. Of course I would root for the Habs, they’re my team, but it’s going to be so hard because I also know the Caps will go a lot farther than the Habs will.
Price has played well since the break? Halak was the player of the month in the NHL last month and has the best stats of ANY goalie since the Olympic break.
On a dollar per goal basis MAB is significantly better than Chara. MAB is probably the best bargain in the NHL this year but that hardly offsets the most overpaid player in the NHL for the next FOUR years in Gomez.
Marty St. Louis has powered Stamkos all year long, just like he used to power Vinnie on his best years.
Lecavalier’s injuries have held him back and he doesn’t have the heart and pure force of will that St. Louis has within him, best French Canadian skater in the league by a mile.
It’s about time for Bob Cole to call it quits. He has had a good career but he can’t seem to remeber who’s playing let alone the players’ names. Heck back in 2002 Olymopics he coldn’t remember who was wearing #66 for Canada. His love of the Leafs is completely transparent and is embarrassing for the CBC. That “poetic justice” comment was ridiculous, no mention of Cammy’s sick move and hit the post then Pouliot hits the c-bar, nothing. The “poetic justice” is that the Laffs will get no better in the off-season when they have no avenue to get new players unless they trade Kaberle. No real picks and no one to trade, except Kaberle. Hang ‘em up Bob, get a job with LeafTV
So after all the changes, injuries, Chris Lee games, Price bounces, it’s come down to this. Frankly, I’m surprised they are as good as they are, but really do we need this Leaf drama every year at this time? You all know what kind of period this will be right? Buckle up!
Vanek is a good goal scorer who’s had a troublesome season, considering he’s getting close to the league maximum in salary they need his production for hope in post-season.
Price in the 3rd just to shake the cage. I think he would hold the fort. Halak looks shakey. Yes I’m a Halak fan. Habs win, JM hero, habs lose, Jm gone anyway.
The Habs are 2-1-1 vs The Caps, not so good vs NJ or Buff. Logically speaking, the probability of the habs winning against the caps is greater than the other two and if I were you I wouldn’t “Stress” against the caps. ———– ”Playing goal is like being shot at.” – Jacques Plante
do you see why you can’t be quick to trade price away? i would have no problem if price starts game one. halak got us to this point, but in the biggest game of the year, he let three bad goals in. the game shouldn’t have been close. hammer was terrible.
everyone wonders how players get certain salaries, well tonight you see why. who would you rather have, gomez or pleks. pleks was non-existent tonight.
there is something to be said about being a winner. it is not easy to win big games and the habs have some character guys. do we get a point with the team we had last year? pleks in my opinion is worth 4 million a year, but clearly not the player gomez is.
seriosuly man, what is your issue with Halak? I am just wondering because you look like the type of guy who would be happy for the habs to lose just to ruin Halak’s stats.
did he sleep with your gf/wife/daughter?
i mean, all you do is complain about him.
ya tonight he doesn’t look great, but agasint the islanders he was pretty good considering how bad the team played.
he got back to back shutouts, and has won 5 games in a row all by himself. you know the games where the habs kept allwoing 40 shots on goal
——————
“I like what I’m seeing right now,” assessed Markov. “We’re not perfect, but we’re trying to be.”
Tying goal Spatch got beat on the rush. And bad goaltending, although backhands are tricky. Winning goal, you say bad coverage, I say they weren’t competing, pretty much same difference really.
Did you see any games Price played winning the Calder?? I did and SK isn’t a 10th the value of Price can bring and who still should be the cornerstone along with Suban in re-building this team. Unfortunately Price probably wants out more than the idiot fans want him gone.
It’s Halak’s game to win or lose, he has to prove himself in Montreal’s biggest game of the year if he wants to be considered the No. 1 man for the team. He hasn’t looked at his best tonight but he has to make this game work for him.
I heard JM has already informed a bunch of guys that they are going to be benched sporadically in the playoffs. He doesn’t want anyone to be surprised.
So I’m thrilled that we’re in the playoffs, earning one point in our final 3 games to really demonstrate that we’re ready to hand with the elite teams in the NHL. And I say that because we will be playing one of them.
By “virtue” of their 88 points the Habs presently sit in 7th place. They can finish no higher than that.
Habs finish 7th if the Rangers defeat Philadelphia tomorrow. Habs finish 8th if the Flyers defeat New York tomorrow.
Washington will finish in 1st place.
Buffalo will take 2nd place if they defeat New Jersey in regulation tomorrow. New Jersey will finish in 2nd place if they defeat Buffalo tomorrow or if they lose in OT/SO.
So here are the potential first round matches and what will have to happen to force it.
If the Rangers win and New Jersey wins/loses in OT, Montreal plays New Jersey If the Rangers win and Buffalo wins in regulation, Montreal plays Buffalo. If the Flyers win, Montreal plays Washington.
Discuss.

“Come on, let’s keep a little optimism here.” — Han Solo, Return of the Jedi
did you notice how NYR anhiliated the leafs 5-1, but the habs are barely clinging on to a 3-2 lead.
WHY DOESN’T THIS TEAM HAVE A KILLER INSTINCT?
WHY CAN’T THEY EVER FINISH?
when habs have a 2 on 1, I never expect them to score. either the pas isn’t accurate, or it’s fumbled, or the shot goes but wide, but 1 thing is cinsistent: THE PUCK NEVER
THIS TEAM CAN’T FINISH. why? because they have no talent, only floaters!
I’m proud of this team. They may not be an elite team and they might not go far in the playoffs, but they’re a much harder working team than last year’s. I can count how many games this team didn’t show up for on one hand.
I had to laugh tonight even though things were tense. When the Leafs touched the puck, Cole said the Habs were hanging on and the Leafs were dominating when in fact the Habs were dominating. Once when the Leafs lost the puck, he said they had lost it, but, when the Leafs quickly regained it, he added, “But it’s okay.” Okay for who? Then there was that poetic justice remark when the Leafs won in overtime. The guy just cannot conceal his bias for the Leafs and has no business commentating for the CBC on Leafs games. It’s been more than 50 years ago since I left Canada, but back in the day HNIC at least used to keep up the pretense of neutrality. I guess standards have degenerated at the CBC since then.
Cammy was hungry, Gomez owned the face-off circle and Gionta was all over the ice.
But Markov was special.
Jaro? I think the workload and pressure is starting to get to him. JM should give him three days off to let him rest. If he struggles again in game one, then bring in Price and play the hot hand thereafter.
Could ya hate the Leafs more? Its fully expected that they would come out and play a hard game tonight, but the whole “truckulent” act that they put on from the start of the second period was unnecessary and disgusting.
“The brick walls are not there to keep us out. The brick walls are there to give us a chance to show how badly we want something.”- Randy Pausch
Wow, so much calling out of Jaro tonight, and with glee too! All you Priceoholics need to remember one thing – Halak got us into the playoffs with his great play all season. Did he have a poor outing tonight? Certainly he did. But those of you who forget what he did for us this year, and actually take joy in his poor play, are laughable at best, and contemptible at worst. In case you forgot, Halak plays for the Montreal Canadiens. He is our starting goalie. He will start in the playoffs. To cheer against him like you are doing makes me question your loyalty to the team.

Just because Halak played good after the olympics doesn’t mean price played bad….Habs fans in a nutshell right there ..if one is good the other one is bad…
Heck of a lot more positives than negatives tonight. With a little luck (what was it – 4 posts tonight??) we will do a little upsetting in the playoffs. ;o)
………..
“Thank you Cammy for making my day even more amazing!”
I know it won’t be a popular opinion and somehow seem unhabsfanlike, but I thought they played a great game. You have to keep in mind that it is always, always a tough game against the Leafs. How many Hab/Leaf games have gone into overtime in the last decade. It really is almost every game. I think it would have been very easy for the Canadiens to have come up short again tonight, especially after a couple tough goals went in. Not Halaks best game but I think we can forgive him can’t we?
Cammalleri. That OT rush looked just like those end to end OT rushes he was throwing down earlier in the year when he was scoring a bundle. Would be very nice to have him back into that mode, and this game he looked closer and closer to it.
Georgs is awsome.
Gill played pretty well. So did Gomez. So did Gionta. So did MAB.
I have one request. Can we enjoy making the playoffs for at least one day. Can we just be happy for one day before we start in with the “this team sucks and will get swept 4 streight by whatever team the play” or continue with the goalie debate.
Milbury got hit in the head too often in his playing days to grasp anything that subtle. He destroyed the Islanders and pretends to give expert analysis…
How was Jerk practice, boy? Did they teach
you how to sing to trees? and build crappy furniture out of useless
wooden logs? Huh? *chair breaks* D’OH!!! Stupid poetic justice!
You make some good points Big Ted…regarding number three…I think if Halak looks bad in game one, Price should start game 2 on the road instead of game three. Too much pressure putting him in at home for his first game, the way the idiots have been booing him lately. I just hope it doesn’t come to that.

Don’t know about that, but if he spends a dime in Atlanta and never gets anywhere because he doesn’t get any proper linemates, it would be the Iginla story all over again.
Halak’s working like a mad dog while the defense has been invisible. That would tire anyone out especially one who whines publically (rhymes with “mice”)…..
Halak should start the playoffs. Yeah he had a bad game but he usually rebounds well. There is no need to be harsh on him. Like you said he played amazing down the stretch.
However, he is the #1 now, so he will be judged differently.
If Price plays game #1 then we are basically saying to Halak: thanks but we don’t need you right now. We will also be putting Price under more stress for no reason really. Halak starts, Price goes in if Halak loses 2 games or plays badly in game #1.
I know it’s really hard to change your favourite team, but so many people on this site seem to derive zero pleasure from being a Habs fan. Life’s too short – root for another team.
No, because you still haven’t made a point. Comparing MAB and Gomez on goals does nothing. How about MAB for 13 goals and $750,000 and Chara for 7 goals and 7.5 million?!?!?!? I guess MAB is better than Chara right?
Don’t get me wrong, this is not an anti Price thing. I like Price very much and am excited about the possibilities. But at this point that is really all they are is possiblilities, the same as with lots of players who have yet to reach their potential. The same as how everyone was saying a few years ago that A Kost was going to be a superstar. Maybe he will be some day but it’s 3 years later and he aint squat yet.
It’s not the player I don’t like. It’s the fans that are so desperate for a superstar that they simply expect every top prospect that joins the team absolutly WILL BE A STAR no matter what and uses that logic to trash on the ‘average’ players that the team has at the time. It’s the same reason that people are already calling for PK to come up and replace the useless D that we have now.
I fully realize the potential of Price, but I am just objective about it. There have been lots of can’t miss prospects who have missed.
I think it is fitting that I started my golf season today with a very windy 18 holes at 7.45am and tonight my beloved Habs are going to have to wait longer to start theirs. GO HABS GO !! GO HABS GO !!
listen, i’m a cubs fan. big z, the ace of our team, had a brutal opening day game for us. he didn’t have it. he was pulled and i was happy. do i like big z, yes. do i like the cubs, yes. halak has been great all year, there is no denying that. but, tonight he was brutal and should have been pulled. will he start game 1, yes. however, like i said, i’d have no problem starting price.
Hmmmm last I checked Halak was not the only goaltender who got some wins this year.
Also – last I checked the Habs got into the playoffs by ONE F-ING point
Time to shut your trap about “Halak getting the team into the playoffs”
For Crying out loud HE IS ON A 3 GAME LOSING STREAK heading into the playoffs.
Shut up already.
If you truly care about the team now ? You will strongly reconsider, because had the playoffs started on Tuesday (Islanders game) the Habs would be down 0-3 in the series.
At least allow Price the first game, he wins, he plays. He loses…. Bring Halak back….
Well I think its safe to say Andrei and Sergei are on their way out. Andrei has been disappointing, I agree, and I’ve never been a huge fan. Sergei though, is incredible, and will rack up big numbers wherever he ends up. We’ll be stuck with lapierre while SK scores 80 points in 2 years.
And for that matter, as much as I like Price and his potential I also like Halak and his potential. I don’t understand why it’s O.K to think a 22 year old talented goalie has a great future ahead of him but a 24 year old talented goalie is not offered the same well wishes. Halak is still growing into his game too. Who knows where the celing is for him.
I’m just glad we have both of these guys on our team (and Desjardins too)
For all of you saying Carolina was one of the worst teams in the league, i read that they had the second best record in the conference in the second half of the season. And the Leafs have not been all that bad the last few weeks. Even the Islanders have had their moments recently.
I get being dissapointed. I even get being angry to a certain extent. I don’t get the hatred or the sence of entitlement. Why bother being a “fan” and spending so much of your time watching the games if you hate it so much.
OK we made the playoffs, bask in the glory. Don’t hate on the team now.
Halak didn’t play very weel, whatever. We’re in. He’ll take the days off refresh and be ready to go.
It’s a whole new deal in the playoffs. No prisoners hockey and the Hab’s are a huge underdog going forward. If we can win one round it will be monumental imo. Which team will show up? But for tonight, it’s time to celebrate!
“Goaltending is a normal job, sure. How would you like it in your job if every time you made a small mistake, a red light went on over your desk and 15,000 people stood up and yelled at you.” -Plante
would that help?…imo they’re the same type of dman
“Goaltending is a normal job, sure. How would you like it in your job if every time you made a small mistake, a red light went on over your desk and 15,000 people stood up and yelled at you.” -Plante
Exactly, calling out Halak is pathetic right now. He needs our support and we support him 100%.
He SHOULD start game #1 (I hope JM is smart enough to do that). He got us to the playoffs, he is our #1 and he deserves the games he is playing. That’s what #1′s do, they play game #1 in the playoffs.
If Halak is not in nets for game#1 then that would be the harshest thing Halak had to deal with in his career. He worked hard and usually he rebounds very very well from a poor effort. If he faulters badly in game#1 or loses 2 games then i’m all for getting Price a start (if he wins then he continues until he loses or plays badly, if he loses, Halak comes back for game#4). Even if Price is not played at all and we are out in 4 games then I’m still okay with that because frankly, Halak is #1 and we should treat him as such.
Unfortunately, he will also have more pressure and will take more abuse because of it.
Validation? Praise? I want neither from him. What I want is my tax dollars not spent on a Xenophobic loser who wears cheap upholstry for a suit. And I think I was clear about what I want instead – Peter Puck. So stick your ignorant comments deep in your backside.

Have to say this about JM, not only is he a huge dumbass but the dude has balls the size of boulders. Pouliot a healthy scratch on a team that is hopeless scoring five on five????????
hahaha that’s hilarious.

”Goaltending is a normal job, sure. How would you like it in your job if every time you made a small mistake, a red light went on over your desk and 15,000 people stood up and yelled at you.” – Jacques Plante
I’m pretty sure as we speak Joey Saputo has a commemorative Kostitsyn brothers “Have You Seen Me” milk carton on the press ready for the market on Monday.
Oh please make it multiple choice. ———– ”Goaltending is a normal job, sure. How would you like it in your job if every time you made a small mistake, a red light went on over your desk and 15,000 people stood up and yelled at you.” – Jacques Plante
Michael Cammalleri has been quoted a number of times stating that he excels under pressure. That he thrives on it. And he likes doing that in front of the home fans. In big games.
Two or three goals from #13 would not suprise me in the least… and that’s just the first period! Ha!
So we’ve won 4 out of the 5 most recent season finales against the Leafs but (correct me if I’m wrong) we lost the only one that we actually needed to win.
Oh boy…. fasten your seat belts and make sure your seats and tray tables are in an upright position. It’s gonna be a bumpy ride.
I just got back from Florida not too long ago and I picked up a bottle of Patron tequila at the duty free. That should be enough to last me until the 2nd intermission (or until I pass out, whichever comes first).
I have a drinking game to try with me and my buds tonight. Every time the Habs score we have to drink a beer. Every time they show Brian Burke on TV we have to down a shot of rye. Will we get drunk?
haha… Timo… Could you imagine how much you would’ve cried and whined this season if Gainey hadn’t gone out and traded for Gomer while signing veteran talent? Do you REALLY think you wouldn’t be sitting here, saying the EXACT same thing as we missed the playoffs by 20 points WITHOUT Gionta Cammi et al.? You’ll complain every season, all season, until HIO closes down or someone confiscates your internet.
Opinions are opinions but some people are impossible to please. You would bitch that it took Ovie too long to reach 50 goals this year if you were a Caps fan.
I can’t speak for Timo, but I begged BG to do the honorable thing and resign well before the July draft and not ruin this franchise. Well we all know what he did on July 1, 2009. A day that will live in infamy in the history of the Montreal Canadiens.
Further to my post below about former Leaf/Habs here’s my top three little weasels to wear both uniforms:
1) Tucker
2) Grabowski
3) Leeman
And don’t name a captain tonight … geez, let ‘im start next season fresh. How would you like to be rewarded with the captaincy only to get knocked out of the playoffs on the last night of the season against the Leafs. Not a good way to start. It can wait until they either make the playoffs (that would be the best time) or next year.
You gotta fix your filters … I know why you’ve done it, but I tried to type in Dick Duff’s name and it wouldn’t let me use Dick. I had to type Dickie (as you will no doubt see in this post). Please get your techie to come up with something a little more sophisticated.
Of course we are not surprised, disappointed maybe, but not surprised, as this situation can be expected from a team that has performed the way it has all season (consistent mediocrity?). Each and every Habs player must come onto the ice with the sheer determination to win despite the Laffs intention to spoil it for us. Then and only then will the red light shine behind Giguere enough times to gain us at least a point out of this sucker of a game.
According to the Ottawa Sun, Senators right winger Alex Kovalev has a “completely torn” ACL in his left knee and is out for the season. He reportedly will have surgery in two weeks.

“I like what I’m seeing right now,” assessed Markov. “We’re not perfect, but we’re trying to be.”
When people were saying even a week ago that the Habs haven’t clinched yet I would think “yeah whatever”. This had to happen and that had to happen..I wasn’t even listening. I sure am now though. With a loss and some bad luck elsewhere, we may have witnessed a perfect storm. It would be a choke for the ages I think. Still don’t believe it will happen though.
Leafs vs. Habs in a big one and a potential masterpiece in Madrid…going to be an awesome Saturday.
Theoretical question: How long a rope does Halak have tonight? I think if were down 2-0 or 3-0 we might see price, but necessarily because halak is playing poorly rather just to try and wake up this sleepwalking team. Its game #82 what do we have to lose?
I agree with the C Boone, Brain G deserves it and that would be the way to get things going into the playoffs, but at the same time, just before him should skate out Pleks with an A on his jersey.
Giguere in Montreal, Leafs, big D like Phaneuf pushing our only player who will go to the net (Gionta), and another (and this time for real) ”most important game of the season”…. I don’t like our chances, but thats why I watch the games, because anything can happen.
At 3-0 I would yank him for sure, even if the goals “weren’t his fault” as most goals scored against the Habs are seen to be by their fans. Down 3 goals it’s desperation and you try anything. You know noone will try to change momentum with a fight or a big hit.
For some odd reason I have a good feeling about this game. It reminds me of the mood going into Game 7 against the Bruins a few years ago. Habs won the game 5-0, so that’s the score I’m predicting for tonight.
Carey Price should play tonight! Halak has lost a few lately and did not play very well against Carolina. Price is the better technical goalie and will rise to the occasion. If they make the playoffs I would bet my house that Price ends up back in the drivers seat. He is the better goalie no matter what. If the team played as poorly in front of Brodeur he would lose too. Don’t lose this kid.
I also just wanted to say that Jaques Martin has been the problem all year. His coaching is horrible. I hope that this guy is gone next year. He has been outcoached so many times this year. He is fat, lazy and shows no emotion. If I was playing for hime I would probably fall asleep during his pre game “lack of pep” talk. I would be more motivated by a fat lady in a bikini!
April 4, 2009 – Montreal 6 at Toronto 2 April 5, 2008 – Toronto 1 at Montreal 3 April 7, 2007 – Montreal 5 at Toronto 6 March 25, 2006 - Toronto 2 at Montreal 6 March 13, 2004 – Toronto 3 at Montreal 4
So… I guess everyone around these parts remembers the pain of 2007 more than the simple fact that in recent years, the Leafs have not dominated the Canadiens in the two teams’ final meeting of the season.
I agree with what you said about JM’s coaching abilities. He was never really the motivating type and I think that’s what our squad needs. It’s kinda low to personally attack the guy though by calling him fat and lazy!!
That and there isn’t a guy on Toronto who could carry Backstrom’s, Ovie’s, Toew’s or Kane’s jock for them. There are young teams, and then there are the young teams carrying league superstars.
I agree with you. SK has way more talent than Pyatt, Darche and Maxwell and as far as defence he is right up there but that is the point. He just doesn’t get it with his attitude and he is pissing off the coaches. He is a complete downer.
You can’t even use proper grammar. Who the hell here isn’t angry, I’m angry at all the unfair shots… why am I wasting my time on a mental midget, watch the game, Skippy.
Respect others – like you do with your profanity laced diatribes?
As for “trashing and bashing of Gainey, Price, Gomez, Gill, Pouliot”. have done none of that. I just called your BS – and I’m doing it again. Your comments are a joke.

O’Byrne’s stick could have broken up that entrance into the zone that created the fluke goal. You need someone on the back end who can exact a physical toll on guys trying to play against us.
I would like Timo to tell me how bad #57 is after that wicked fast thinking and pushing the other players stick onto the puck to make the pass? That would be a valid goal under review he never touched the puck. That is hockey sense !
3rd line loses a certain effectivness without SK on it, will JM keep that in mind in the future that it’s not good for the team to carry out personal vendettas with his roster?
HEY BOONE! How about eschewing the great traditon of throwing Habs under the bus at the drop of the hat and let’s ride out Benoit’s slump. The kids has shown he can do it and do it well … this is not A.K. we are talking about … so lay off!
Clay4bc, shiloh and others, why is it that if a fellow Hab fan like me disagrees with your view of things, I get sh*t on?
Not everybody loves Halak, I may like him BUT I don’t love him cuz he ain’t the sh*t in MY opinion (which may differ from yours, oh sorry about that). Yeah, I think Price is the future blah blah blah, in MY opinion, deal with it, I ain’t alone here in that.
Grow the f up. Respect others, I’ve read on here the constant trashing and bashing of Gainey, Price, Gomez, Gill, Pouliot tonight now, etc ETC ETCETERA for 3 YEARS HERE and all without foundation and yet someone defends them and they are crapped on.
J hope someone can ut the puck in the net.
Boone, this puts a whole new meaning to “Knick-knack, paddy whack,
Give a dog a bone”
“Hey Richard, two minutes for looking so good!”
Thanks for the visual of Hal Gill in big-girl panties.
Im gonna hurl!!
Something tells me the Habs will have “gotta get them to OT” written all over their game.
What’s the point really? Does anybody here really think the Habs can win a playoff series? I’ll watch, but then again we all stretch our necks for traffic accidents and other train wrecks.
The attitude that will lose tonight is: “Just gotta get them to OT! Just gotta get them to OT!!!”
The attitude that will win it: “Murder them.”
Unfortunately, I think the Leafs will come out with the latter attitude, and the Habs might not.
“love cannot drown truth, Nefertiti”
Putting a “C” on someone would be fantastic, and about time. Putting a “C” on Gionta, would be the perfect choice, IMO. However, would it be fair to lay that on anyone at this point? One game to go, and either playoffs or the golf course looming? By the way, if you have not seen the fans tribute to Modano in Dallas last night (possibly his final game in front of the home fans) you must watch it. Modano was always all class, again, IMO.

Lets hope we get some heart out of the boys tonight. New blog post by the way! Carolina review & Toronto preview.

That picture is disgusting. Like wtf is that? looks his back is broken in 5 places. Nasty.
Anyways, hoping for a win tonight. They owe it to us.
Gionta has emerged as Captain material…I was on the fence about him before, but he deserves it.
Go Habs Go…please.
A freakin’ captain would be nice… and Gionta would be perfect.
I don’t feel good about this. If I feel flat, maybe the boys do too?
I live in enemy territory. I’ve had my Habs flag ripped off my car sveral times. If they lose tonight, it’ll be a looong summer and my neighbors will NEVER let me forget it. Our boys better put on their big girl panties and win this sucker or else.
unlike last time when leafs were fighting just as hard to make it ,this time they are out of it , so hit him hard and early and by the second they will be packing for an early start of vacation.
The laffs need to be shown how suckulent they are. This is a gut check game. Let’s see who shows up.
Correction Boone: “The league’s loudest building”.
All i can say about this game is FML.
The Oracle at Delphi has spoken.
to be or not to be ,that is the question ..whether it is nobler in the mind to suffer the slings and arrows of outrageous fortune , or to arm againstt a sea of troubles and by so opposing end them……
once again you nailed it Boone, we NEED to start strong, first goal is huge, I would think we should get our share of Power play opportunities, the NHL owes us from the last time we played these jokers on our final Saturday night of the year, Mikey Ryder had us in good shape after 2 periods, then the Leafs PowerPlay Festival at the ACC kicked into high gear and we got screwed by that big goof Sundin and company…. I’m goin with 5-2 Habs with 3 for Cammy, I know it’s a stretch but who knows, I do know that I want the WIN tonight, not an OT/SHOOTOUT LOSS
Show up Boys
Beat those Friggin Leafs…PLEASE!!!!
No Kidding. Now I want a lobotomy.
Gionta is our best hope for C. Leads by example and wins over everybody who sees his stellar play. Hope you’re friend is right!
In anticipation of another lame effort by our Habs tonight, I was thinking of former Leafs who have played for Montreal and came up with my top five:
1) Mahovlich, 2) Dickie Duff, 3) Vincent Damphousse, 4) Doug Gilmour, 5) Yannick Perreault
What would your rankings be?
As for Habs who went on to play for the Leafs:
1) Jacques Plante, 2) Dickie Moore, 3) Kirk Muller, 4) Mathieu Schneider, 5) Shayne Corson
I know! and they are his only 2 goals this season!
How many teams have had firsts against us?
Four terrible goals by Halak. In the biggest game of the season.
For god’s sake don’t let him start in the playoffs.

Also said during second intermission that he looked good by the tower in the background, and suggested he SHOULD go stand by it. A remark he’ll likely pay for next game by being hit on the head some piece of hockey equipment.
Hamr gives up so many odd man rushes and breakaways, not OB.

thanks Jaro1!!
This will be a tough series for the Habs. Likely they will get smeared but, if the stars align, it is not out of the realm of possibilites for them to pull off an upset.

Plekanec line is INVISIBLE. How is this team going to cut it in the playoffs?
Wow, the Leafs stuck it to the Habs. Outplayed them. Habs looked physically weak and scared, didn’t want to compete for the pucks.
Jaro’s performance the past few games has been really worrisome. He was an absolute sieve the past two games when it really counted. Between him and Price the Habs have a real problem in goal for the playoffs, which would be a bigger problem if the team didn’t suck so bad anyway.

Bob Cole’s out-right cheering for the Leafs is getting really old.
Gomer was a $10 mil man tonight.
Halak is very weak right now…but i don’t think pulling him would be the answer.. putting Price in there cold might cause problems. We’re not down it’s no time to panic…yet

Hey bud….your CAPS is stuck on again……
Go jump of a tall…tall tower please
does wilson pull the goalie if it’s tied?
I hate ” oging to the palyoffs.”
(Just having fun. Don’t take me seriously.)
We need a major reform of the JM system plan then!
Single overriding thought about the game: Halak is not as clutch as some may think.

In Guy Boucher I trust.
It’s a MAB MAB world.
game of the year, pull halak. he doesn’t have it tonight.
Screw it All!!!! We are IN!!!!
——-US Born Habs fan, Proud to be a traitor (when it comes to Hockey).
Sorry but wrong answer… if it was for Jaro, ONLY… the team would have only 26 wins… Also, last time I checked, Halak had a 0 in the goals column, because he’s part of a team, not THE team…
Halak is mentally tired. He is not ready to play so many games.
…Jaro SUCKED tonight …NO doubt about it
…Jaro despite rising to 1-A from under Carey’s shadow …has had I am sure a stressful year …He is starting to show the stress and pressure

This is the goalie that Red Fisher wants signed long term?
Wow!
I know, he’s the beloved underdog, but tonight with the season on the line he’s choking.
Kind of like Vancouver where he blew a 3-1 lead in the bronze medal game.
Hey Alan Walsh, Tweet this…Your boy chokes in big games.

no jaro….
So what’s up ?
In Guy Boucher I trust.
Halak is horrible! and I thought Philly’s goalies were bad? ours are WORSE!
…and no more horsehoes in his butt
so you guy’s think we should name a Captain for the playoffs?
have to make it there first
I love the “what if” commercials
Never thought about that. Yes he would.
Timo common man..
the habs were all over that pathetic team… they dominated in every aspect of the game.. including the physical one.
but giguere shoved a horseshoe up his ass and the posts did the rest of teh work.
halak was terrible as well.
there is nothing that forwards and d can do when your goalie lets everything in

This team is just too tight.
Out played them??? What game did you watch? the only person who got outplayed was Halak by Giguere.
Every time the puck was in our end, even mid-clearing.
have to make it there first
so its either Washington or NJ
Be swift and kind in your elimination
He is a small goalie that plays small but has good puck tracking skills. He needs traffic in front of him to be effective.
Praise the day that Lapierre is placed on waivers!!!
We have two goalies. One has gone cold. Time for a brave move JM.
I’m able to smell my arm sweat throught my shirt now, are you happy habs?!

So, a complete repeat of this past year??
BINGO!!

Just for the sake of watching good hockey I really want Boston to lose tomorrow. Would be fun to watch Habs Vs Caps. really though I always want Boston to lose.
In: Gio, Cammy, Markov Gorges Darche Pleks Sergei Halak
Out: Lapierre Hamrlik Gill (though he played well tonight) Akostitsyn Spacek
Maybes: Gomez Obyrne Pouliot Pyatt MAB Price
no, but if they do Gionta or Gorges, don’t ask me why.
I switched after the first to RDS.
The stewie is strong with this one
Yeah… and I’m apparently stupid
Whoever the Habs face in the first round must be quaking in their skates at the prospect of facing this team
What gave it away 3 goals on 17 shots ?
YEAH BABY!!!!
I would rather play the Caps too… but in the second round : )
It’s a MAB MAB world.
How can that be?
He’s the saviour? The golden boy.
So the Habs will have to sign Halak to big dollars and then waste cap dollars on a back up?
I thought he was the answer?
I will really enjoy it when the habs get smacked around. go NJ go!
Now watch as I get jumped on.
Guigere was lucky. We hit at least four posts. Two by Pouliot alone. MAB. Cammy in O/T…
“Hey Richard, two minutes for looking so good!”
He’s cracking under presure, it happens with most backups

What a moment, lose a game in OT and still out congratulating themselves…LOVE that moment…while laffs try to look happy.
I never knew having a bad game meant having the two worst goalies in the league…
“Goaltending is a normal job, sure. How would you like it in your job if every time you made a small mistake, a red light went on over your desk and 15,000 people stood up and yelled at you.” -Plante

Been on the beer since 4:30 AST.
Hamrlik and Gill are too slow.
JM benched the K brothers. He is hurting our team just before the playoff. He really thinks that our team is better without the K brothers.
leafs HAVE to start crap in front of the net *rolls eyes*
People saying Halak is garbage should just shut up. The guy played his heart out and gave his best is virtually every game…
Halak should start the playoffs too.
the habs were the ones in red not the ones in white

THere hasn’t been a more biased play by play even back to days of Foster Hewitt!

Maybe he’s tired and time off will be what he needs.
bookmark and continue reading your blog in the future! Thanks alot for the
informative post!
I think the Leafs had luck on their side. I counted at least four goal posts that saved Giggy tonight.
“Hey Richard, two minutes for looking so good!”

Well the laffs may have won the game, but we’re going to the dance!
WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOHOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!
F-off CBC, Knob Hole, Greg Muffin and Meathead Milbury!
Gomez gives up a better shot for a pass WAY too often.
Yeah right. That’s why he’s been sitting out how many games? How many shutouts did he get this season?
Well, in the third and OT at least. The Leafs were the better team late. The last two Leaf goals were the result of Leafs outcompeting the Habs.

Indeed, finally you will be at peace. Of course, I’m still hoping my team beats your team, but you guys are definitely the better team going into it.
This game will be lost on Halak’s 1st goal him. Thanks Jaro

Well, it’s been an exciting 82 games. Alot of people did not expect this newly thrown together team to even make it in the playoffs so I’m proud of them. I like the Habs…the habs are cool…GO F. HABS GO
no explanation needed for Georges, but (not counting my chockens but…) if we win the cup, they can’t have 4 dudes shaking bettmans hand
pretty sure gionta is the only one on this team that knows how to play hockey
Giguere had help from his two red tubular metal friends beside him.
“Hey Richard, two minutes for looking so good!”
Much rather play the Caps. And yeah it would be cooler if it was in the 2nd round.
I am somehow calm and not angry. Low expectations lead to far less stress when dealing with this team.
once again no finish with predictable results.
Almost identical to mine except all your maybes were IN for me and Halak was OUT for me.
If Gionta was taller he would have got that pass, lmao!!
Who thinks the Leafs will pull their goalie with a minute left even if we are tied?
Plekanec finishes the year with 45 assists.
Gomez with 47.
Pleks blows. Cut him loose. Totally invisible down the stretch.
AK46 is use-f*cking-less
i think the little girl is back!!
So Pleks is losing value, hello 3.5 and Halak is losing value….oops not going according to plan.
On the upside resigning them will be cheaper.
In Guy Boucher I trust.
NYR and BUF win tomorrow and we play Buffalo.
There may be other teams, but only ONE Club De Hockey…
i disagree…. it was against the leafs who have 1 nhl calibre forward… gill is a liability and plays way too many minutes… he is -9.. probably more after tonight… he is up there with MAB for defensive crap… MAB has an upside though if he gets his rocket away
JM ain’t Dean Blaise.
I’ve never seen anyone shake hands with the refs after a game? Does that happen?
I really think that we should start Price for the first game and allow Halak to recharge his mental strength sitting on the bench. The book on Halak is out. He has a big hole on his high glove hand. It gets worse when he is tired and the reaction is not there.
Starting to get a bad feeling about this.
They won’t cuz they’ll be winning
Gill had a great game tonight.. sorry
blocked a ton of shots and really used hsi reach

“I like what I’m seeing right now,” assessed Markov. “We’re not perfect, but we’re trying to be.”
Yeah, Lamoriello and Esposito have done it.
Jaro is shaky as they get, what’s up with that?
Jiggy is a DICK!! Your Career is OVER DUDE!!

Wow. I didn’t know Bob Cole was on HIO.
We got in by the skin of our teeth.
Very classy of both teams to shake the ref’s hand — it’s stuff like that which makes me proud of this sport. Would have loved to have heard what the players said to him.
ok tomorrow if the rangers win, the habs finish 7th and if philly wins, they finish 8th
Cammy’s BESTEST game so far since his return!
Playoffs!!

Ohhh boy Halak……i guess we’ll see which goalie plays in the playoffs……. U’re still a good guy tho Halak!
Pouliot…once a floater…ALWAYS a floater
Great shift with Darche on the Pleks line.
Timo.
What do you think about Pouliot hiting the post twice? Cammalleri lighting it up in the last 25 minutes of the game? The many, many, chances the Habs got all night? Some analysis, please.
McGill represent!
Darche’s hustle might just be Pleks and Cammy need to wake up.
Out of curiosity how can you put halak out? yes he was god awful tonight but he is the only reason we are in the playoffs to begin with.
Too many blown opportunities. This smells bad.
Disagree again. Tying goal result of bad goaltending. Winning goal result of poor coverage by Moore and Gill sucking.
There were a nervous few minutes in the 2nd and 3rd but MTL was much better for 50 minutes.
Sorry if this has been posted already — Kane and Cooke fight, Cooke was ko’ed.

Him and Moore I agree.
Not really what Price needs right now is it?
It’s a MAB MAB world.

Everyone knows that except this damn organization. We think we owe him something because he “wants” to play here.
F’ing laff goons at it again! God how I loath that franchise.

And Gionta with nearly 30 goals in an injury shortened season. All keepers, but we need more shooters. Do you think PG can pull one or two out of his posterior somehow this summer?
Wouldn’t pay more than $4 million/year for that… see ya little girl
Man, Halak is not and i repeat NOT a clutch goalie! In our most important game of the year our supposed number 1 goalie plays his worst! Mark my words even if we make the playoffs by default (God knows we haven’t earned it) Halak will not steal us a series. BUt who cares, it doesnt matter what goalie plays net, this team just has no pride. God awful. I wish we had 20 Giontas on our team, who cares about physical size, his heart makes him play like he’s 6’3!
I guess you were watching the same game Bob Cole was.

and Gill doesn’t have an upside? did you see him poke the puck out of harms way like 4 times tonight? I agree he’s not the best defence we have but he sure brings stuff to the table.
right now Henrik Sedin is fighting for the art ross trophy (has 2 assists this game) and henrik is trying to set a personal record for goals in a season shortened by injuries.
funny that in the summer half the people on this site didn’t want them because they were soft euros lol.

“I like what I’m seeing right now,” assessed Markov. “We’re not perfect, but we’re trying to be.”
Looking at your profile pic is making me perverse!
Praise the day that Lapierre is placed on waivers!!!
Why I tuned to RDS.
Four dudes going up and hoisting the Cup as a committee. Yeah that does not work – That won’t happen for fairly obvious reasons.
Pull Halak NOW puh….lease. He is fighting every puck.
Yeah but he’s a Laffs Homer.
What is that old saying? You should dance with the girl you brought to the dance?
JM in the biggest and last game of the season shuffled the deck. DUMBASS!
Play the lineup that brought you to this point.
was i the only one who’s heart stopped when Mitchell took that harmless shot (which almost went in)
I’d can see Price start the first game of the play-offs, the 2nd for sure if the team loses with Halak in nets 1st game, if only to shake things up.
Luca Caputi. May your first child be a masculine child!
The out right cheering for the Leafs by Bob Cole is really annoying.
Nice to get insightful goaltending commentary from Millen who played in the hockey hotbeds of St. Louis and Hartford.
Hence the name ^^^
Never thought I’d ever agree with Exit716 but yeah, never really forgave Marouelli for blowing the Williams high-stick on Koivu. Ended the series.
lol that was good.
Do fans come here? I see alot of very negative comments about all our players.
Habs defending a tie and barely hanging on. Never seen Halak look so spooked. He has really let things slide the last couple of games, hate to say it.
Full Breezer 4 Life
go philly! i wanna see us play washington. at least we can skate with them. we’ll still get crushed most of the time, but still. i don’t want nj. boring + marty.
Whatever. Butthole
What are these &%(&%( sticks made of? Balsa wood?
how many millions of dollars do you need to be able to hit the net on a point shot? or does MAB miss a lot b/c he’s purposely aiming for corners? i don’t get it.
I know what’s gonna happen but I don’t dare type it
ok now, They need to start Price.
Over the last couple weeks he has been the better goalie, (minus the 2 shutouts, which were Halak’s 2 great games, but has been cold since then).
JM said they would ride the hot goalie, then it has to be Price.
Price has played there before, if he is really bad after one, go back to Halak. Could Halak or Price be any worse than Halak was tonight?
Face it Timo, your happier when the team loses. You might be in luck in the playoffs though so keep your chin up.
It’s a MAB MAB world.
Post I already digged this
Still have another period you naysayers!! Have some faith!
Shorten the bench already!!!!
Good game boys. The difference was the goalies. Our main worry recently –offense– was much better.
If Gomez, Markov, Gionta and Cammo lead like tonight…and Halak is decent. We have a chance.
8 million for 59 points!! yeah what a bargain. thanks BG!!
STAMKOS HAS 50 GOALS FOR 750,000!!!!!
THANKS BG!!
lazy lazy lazy low percentage passes.. like they’re playing shinny
You bastard goalie!!!!
Gotta agree with that.
Yea, get JM’s fat ass off it!
ohh my computer isn’t by the tv so i left as soon as the game was done..my bad
I doubt that will happen, if they make it to a 3-X series i’m sure they will decide who takes the cup…

You sure you’re not listening to the Punjab version? Cole is not *that* bad. I think theres some wild imaginations concerning this supposed bias.
Why won’t these pussies stop in front of the damn net instead of skating by it. So many lonely rebounds just laying there. Looking at you Gomez!
I’d start Price. You never know. If he sharts the bed, back to Halak. Kid needs a rest. We play well against DC. Besides, Ovenchicken is fried, Price might rise to the occasion. Grow a nutbag JM
Yep, what a steal for us eh!
Giggy has a horseshoe up his you-know-what tonight.
“Hey Richard, two minutes for looking so good!”
it feels like these players have never played together… EVER
Ay carumba, pads wide open. SNAKEBIT!!!!!!!!!!
To be fair, Price should start the playoffs. Why does he always sit after a loss even when he’s played well? Jaro bit the root tonight.
You honestly think this team is well put together? Seriously? Have you looked at the standings?
This smells SO bad. Giguère stoppin everything. Hammer will put it in our own net.
MAB on D is like watching a train wreck, looped on a 6-hour tape.

Where was the urgency the last two games.
DAMN !!!!!!!!!!!! Missed
Last one wasn’t his fault. However if he had stopped any of the previos 3 he wouldn’t have had to save the 4th.
He will finish the Habs season!

BUT WERE IN……Tomorrow doesnt matter…..Wednesday matters….and its a whole new world

MAB!!!
here it is my friends the collapse that we will be talking about all summer……
Because of his season, he brings back the most in a trade. Anybody who knows anything knows Carey Price is the one to keep long term (discussed here ad nauseum), superb talent, excellent athleticism and when he gets a little maturity into his head, he’ll be the goalie everybody wants him to be yesterday. Halak, yeah, a battler and all but games like he played tonight (where the chips were down) are a real eye opener for a 25 year old netminder, I guarantee you see more of that nervousness in the Playoffs.
FUCK YEAH

WOOF!
What a shot!
agreed …we play to the level of the teams we face all the time…good team=the habs play good bad team=the habs play bad….
this game im not sure about at the moment because right now we’re getting more opportunities than the leafs just their goalie is playing better…granted we’re kind of making giggy look good but chances are chances
what would you do with AK-give him more ice time?
I agree compleatly. Halak Has been soft the last 3 games and if he plays like tonight it will be 4 and gone.

*Cough* the Boston series before that with 2 shutouts. At least we made the 2nd round eh ?
Halak has now had 3 shots at playing a BIG game… in the playoffs we’d be down 0-3
Not heading to any 2nd rounds with Halak if he plays like he has the last 3 games.
You Halakians are all about wins ?
OK HALAK HAS LOST 3 IN A ROW!!!!….
“JM blows another 3rd period lead”
So it’s Martin and his systems fault that Hamrlik turned the wrong way and Halak let a soft backhander in? Is the onus ever on the players?
It’s a MAB MAB world.
it’s like he must have listened to me! woooooh
touche
Halak is #1. You start him in game one, if he faulters then you go to Price. The other way around doesn’t work.

Thank you MAB.

Oh, please make it so! Finally made the plunge and picked up my Gionta t-shirt when we were in Mtl last weekend. If they play with half the heart and skill they did against Buffalo, none of the other scenarios will matter and all will be well in Habsland.
WooHOO!!
Boone: For OB to be done for the night, he would have actually had to have over 2 minutes TOi before declaring that in the 3rd period.

Halak lost one game in that series too..
Don’t forget the open net that Pouliot completely missed as well.
I think this is my first visit so I wanted to say hi!
The benefit of winning faceoffs!
Lets not talk about LUCKY horseshoes up anyones you know what (HALAK all year)
———–
”Playing goal is like being shot at.” – Jacques Plante
Would you really wanna do that to Price? Throw him in against the Caps or Devils so when they lose 4 straight everyone can jump on him and say it was his fault?
I have to agree completely with this comment. There is no way you pull your goalie in the 3rd when you are tied. Even if the goal was a little malodorous.
I must accept MAB’s mistakes. I must accept MAB’s mistakes. I must….
Can we hold on for 5 more 5 more boys !!!!!!!!!!
talk about backing in , I ll take it but woh , and what about goaltending , halik did not help his cause tonight , we needed a save or to and didnt get it.
I have to agree completely with this comment. There is no way you pull your goalie in the 3rd when you are tied. Even if the goal was a little malodorous.
3-2 GOING INTO THE 3RD!!!!!
MARTIN DONT SIT ON THE LEAD……ATTACK ATTACK
And suddenly, as the horseshoe finally drops out of his behind, you all are realizing Halak ain’t the goalie y’all thought he was… chips are down and he sucks. POINT FINALE!
I’m pretty sure Montreal just clinched 8th place
Philly has more wins and if NYR wins they’ll have an identical record, but a WAY better goal differential
out in 4 vs washington yipee really happy about tonights OTL…
Marouelli missed the Williams high stick on Koivu.
Forward wise, Ak46/cammy/benny could be better.
3-2 thank you MAB
9 shots by Gionta tonight. Wow!
yes i did see him poke check a few away but i still respectfully disagree with you.maybe poke checking the puck away is an upside but it doesn’t negate the downside, which is much larger. i just think he is awful
MAB for captain ;P
Where are the moderators, lmfao!!!
I’d prefer to see the Habs play Washington. At least the games will be entertaining to watch.
if we had this guy, it would be such smooth sailing into the post….. what a mistake….

“Hey Richard, two minutes for looking so good!”
THESE ARE THE FREAKIN’ 29th PLACE MAPLE LEAFS!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I’d rather play Washington than the Devils.
Now maybe the losers will stay away from here for a few minutes
I still don’t know why OB is benched.
Few points about the game:
AAAAAAAAAALLELLUJAH!!!!!!!!! MAB!!!
What the hell was Pleks doing there?
We have actually played Washington, Pittsburgh and Buffalo not bad this year. The problem though is that the league wants a Washington/penguin showdown and there is NO WAY they will let either one lose in the first round if they can help it. So I am sure the officials will be given explicit instructions.
That being said, with all he injuries early on getting in is a bit of a victory for them. Feels kind of hollow though.
Hey Hablifting, why do you keep talking to me?
my heart is racing but my fingers are cold… I think I’m dying
why are people freaking out so much..
the habs were really good tonight, phyiscal and fast.
the leafs had nothing, nada, niet!
the only reason they won is because halak had an off night, giguerre swallowed his pride and shoved a horseshoe up his rectum and the posts had alot of work.
the habs deserved teh win, but stuff like this happens in hockey.
but ya let’s crucify one of the main reasons we are even in the playoffs.
Agree! He’s lost 3 in a row (2 of which he was unable to hold the lead). He does look tired and Price has played well since the break.
Brian Burke = Overrated Loud Mouth POS
Where’s the Pleks line?
Laying back now??? This is HORRIBLE!
That being said, we were clearly unlucky tonight. 4 posts, all by our two snakebit players…….. Shake it for the playoffs and lets look to upset…….We should have taken notes tonight.
There may be other teams, but only ONE Club De Hockey…
I don’t know that Timo, but your nose is right in the bag so I guess you do.!
That’s why MAB is dressed…

I’m liking Ol’ Giller tonight
since halak has been named number 1.,…ugly…
thought the team dominated tonight, giggy loved the posts and crossbars for sure…Jaro, you saved our baccon many times this year, tonight the team saved his…1st and 3rd goals :S
Cammy and Benny are unbelievably snake bit…hopefully they (and Jaro) find old form come next week and we can upset!
Getting guys like that is why you tank!
Martin is just such a bumbledick behind the bench!
Sorry, I didn’t notice you were still crying there. My bad. I’ll leave you alone. Need some tissue?
i am going to have a fu#%#$#$# heart attack
Halaka played as I expected….he had a good run and got us into the playoffs but now it’s time to start a Canadian goalie who single-handedly won the AHL cup. PG probably “has” to sign Halak over Price unless he steals a round or two in the playoffs. If not he will likely be get an Offer Sheet by PHI and will win it all again in a few years and you idiots will choke on crow while Halaka plays to keep the Habs right where they are now year after year. Those who disagree are simply WRONG and it will be proven.
Bipolar or Manic-Depressive Disorder is a disease than can treated.
$900,000 saves the season?
you just know what will happen when they take out Giggy with 1:45 left…..
In Guy Boucher I trust.
Chantal is not at all hot.
The System has passed its first test: getting the Habs to the playoffs. A gelling of epic proportions is about to occur. Can’t you all feel it! Plan the parade!!!
Should have passed to Gionta, but Benny made a great play to spring himself
and dinged it off the post …..
I think Phaneuf grabbed Plek’s stick out of his hands there.
Bob Cole just said that Montreal scored their second power play goal by Bergeron in the 9th minute.
What an idiot.
watching this game thats a huge possibility

911, 912 is a wrong number
In Guy Boucher I trust.
We win the head to head tie break against the Rangers, so if they win tomorrow, we get 7th.
GO HABS GO

I guess the Habs dont realise they’re pretty much playing for their playoff lives here?
Goalies in Montreal have two roles, netminder and scapegoat.
Leafs loaf their last how many games and come to play against Habs. Nonsense. How about playing like that every night.
Even if Habs make it, they’ll carry this in with them. We’ve seen it too many times.
i am not a halakian, the only reason i posted this is because that is all this moron ever talks about.
how evil and and halak is.

bergeron, i take back everything i’ve said about you. hammer is our worst d tonight. gomez is worth his weight in gold tonight. gio is gio and Halak is making me extremely nervous. i have never seen him fight the puck like this ever. he has been bad tonight. leafs have had 3 scoring chances all game. go habs go

WHY THE F**** IS LAPS LINE ON WITH 230 LEFT IN THE GAME!?! Goddamn
ohhh i thought the second tie breaker was goal difference
kk well then go Rangers!
I am really worry about the 3rd period. JM is using basically 3 lines. We had 3 more PP. Our team will be tired and TO will be getting PP.
If JM is not using O’Byrne, why not dress Sergei. He is handicapping our team. We are playing one man short. What an idiot is JM?
Cammy’s got fire in his eyes.
Vinny does not have the line mates but look at his points he still is a factor.
I’m sh*tting bricks!

He is alot better than most of the airheads around here will give him credit for.
*Cough* Game 7 SO against BOS, oh and the 2 mvp’s he has wjc and calder, but ya judge the guy off 2 games against PHI
Halak has problem stopping high shots recently. Is he tired?
lolz

Why do the Habs always play so scared?? Where’s the belief? Where’s the guts, huh?? What a bunch of cowards. Wow this reminds me of 2007, I actually broke furniture that year, here’s hoping to avoid a repeat.

It’s a MAB MAB world.
I agree. He looks shaky. Not enough work. Maybe he is a good bad team goalie only.

that makes zero sense – this playoff matchup math is confusing me.
It’s called jealously and hate of Montreal.
Quick, get me some Tums!
Price has played well since the break? Halak was the player of the month in the NHL last month and has the best stats of ANY goalie since the Olympic break.
Don Cherry looks like a Telus commercial.
Too God damn close!!! My heart!
I always expect the Habs to make the playoffs.
the problem is that has become the bench mark, rather than wining the Cup.
We need a new front office and Coach.. who will measure by Cup preformance and nothing else
I totally and fully agree with ya BUT the Halakians won’t have any of that so expect a barrage of dumb-dumbness.
MAB! I want to have his point shot’s babies.
Get Moen off the ice.
I can’t believe that some of you are actually happy getting 1 point?
you’re crappy team goes into the playoffs with 3 LOSSES IN A ROW AGAINST THE WORST TEAMS IN THE LEAGUE: NYI< TOR, CAROLINA.
If you can’t win at home vs the 2ND WORST TEAM IN THE LEAGUE, HOW ARE GOING TO BEAT NJ?
this team is the worst team in hab history! pathetic excuse for a team! They couldn’t even beat Hamilton!
PATHETIC! I HOPE NJ BEATS THE S@#$%T OUT OF THEM!
Pretty much sums up my feelings.
It’s a MAB MAB world.
playoffs !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Vanek is looking very dangerous – 4 goals tonight
Might become the first to get 5 since Gaborik a few seasons back
It’s hard to stomach Bill, I know.
On a dollar per goal basis MAB is significantly better than Chara. MAB is probably the best bargain in the NHL this year but that hardly offsets the most overpaid player in the NHL for the next FOUR years in Gomez.
Thanks BG!!
We have to shoot from the middle of the blue line with traffics in front of the crease. That’s how we score the 3rd goal. Don’t shoot from the board.

I would imagine Kane will be getting some gift baskets and 24′s tomorrow.
Marty St. Louis has powered Stamkos all year long, just like he used to power Vinnie on his best years.
Lecavalier’s injuries have held him back and he doesn’t have the heart and pure force of will that St. Louis has within him, best French Canadian skater in the league by a mile.

Don Cherry fellating a Leaf prospect… so sad.
Buckle up!

The Habs are 2-1-1 vs The Caps, not so good vs NJ or Buff.
Logically speaking, the probability of the habs winning against the caps is greater than the other two and if I were you I wouldn’t “Stress” against the caps.

do you see why you can’t be quick to trade price away? i would have no problem if price starts game one. halak got us to this point, but in the biggest game of the year, he let three bad goals in. the game shouldn’t have been close. hammer was terrible.
everyone wonders how players get certain salaries, well tonight you see why. who would you rather have, gomez or pleks. pleks was non-existent tonight.
there is something to be said about being a winner. it is not easy to win big games and the habs have some character guys. do we get a point with the team we had last year? pleks in my opinion is worth 4 million a year, but clearly not the player gomez is.
But they didn’t lose today. They lost the game but they won a trip to the playoffs : )
It’s a MAB MAB world.
seriosuly man, what is your issue with Halak? I am just wondering because you look like the type of guy who would be happy for the habs to lose just to ruin Halak’s stats.
did he sleep with your gf/wife/daughter?
i mean, all you do is complain about him.
ya tonight he doesn’t look great, but agasint the islanders he was pretty good considering how bad the team played.
he got back to back shutouts, and has won 5 games in a row all by himself. you know the games where the habs kept allwoing 40 shots on goal

We loss for one reason: Halak.
Im not saying it to bash Jaro, its just that the Price hater would be all over him tonight. But facts are facts he played like crap.

I heard JM has already informed a bunch of guys that they are going to be benched sporadically in the playoffs. He doesn’t want anyone to be surprised.
Fine. MAB has 13 goals for 750,000 and Gomez 12 goals for 8 million!!! Happy now?
Thanks BG!!
lol
One Grand Marnier coming right up.
If the Rangers win and New Jersey wins/loses in OT, Montreal plays New Jersey
If the Rangers win and Buffalo wins in regulation, Montreal plays Buffalo.
If the Flyers win, Montreal plays Washington.
Discuss.

WHY CAN’T THEY EVER FINISH?
when habs have a 2 on 1, I never expect them to score. either the pas isn’t accurate, or it’s fumbled, or the shot goes but wide, but 1 thing is cinsistent: THE PUCK NEVER

I’d go with Halak for the first game, but if he is as shakey as tonight, go with Price until he plays a bad game.
Too late for advice. Been going at it since 4. Not enough alcohol to numb this anxiety.
Woah Daddy!
Markov was special tonight.

To cheer against him like you are doing makes me question your loyalty to the team.

this is what happened tonight.. the fact that they did what they ahd to do with halak so shaky sais alot about the team

CH eers!

26-2-2 when leading after 2, it’s almost enough to make you think JM’s sitting back on it in the third works, doesn’t it?
Would love to see a stat for how many times the games have gone to OT when leading by only 1 or 2 going into the third.
I honestly think Bob Cole believes the game is over and is going to end in a tie.

Hey, they are gonna clinch tomorrow PM. Torts is gonna go Full Monty on the Flyers.
Unless Philly offers a salary that the Habs do not match of less then 3 Million per year.
Philly is not “signing” one of our RFA goalies.
Why ?
They traded their next 2 first round picks to Anaheim in the Pronger deal.
Philly gets one of our goalies via trade only.
I have faith in this team. They’ve gone through too much this season to be swept in the playoffs.
Who cares how we made the playoffs? Remember all the injuries we had early in the season? Rejoice!!!!
The moment of truth approaches…
“Hey Richard, two minutes for looking so good!”
Kirkland Lake?
Price in the shootout???????
glad you said something first, I wouldn’t have been so nice
Halak’s working like a mad dog while the defense has been invisible. That would tire anyone out especially one who whines publically (rhymes with “mice”)…..
Price, hands down. Hungry, angry, talented.
Don’t worry, Rags will turn back into the horse fecal matter they truly are.
well put!
I know it’s really hard to change your favourite team, but so many people on this site seem to derive zero pleasure from being a Habs fan. Life’s too short – root for another team.

Which are your Habworthy players that fit the uniform and the Montreal tradition perfectly? Which don’t?
So Gionta got the money Kovalev wasn’t decisive enough to take in July. Let’s compare:
Gionta: GP 61 G 28 A 18 +/- 3 PPG 10
Kovalev: GP 77 G 18 A 31 +/- -8 PPG 4
I’m glad the Habs have Gionta instead.

No that one I am glad he won.
It’s a MAB MAB world.

Posts posts posts posts saving giggy’s ass…well he’s playing good also…really wants to show his home town that hes great im guessing?
For all of you saying Carolina was one of the worst teams in the league, i read that they had the second best record in the conference in the second half of the season. And the Leafs have not been all that bad the last few weeks. Even the Islanders have had their moments recently.
Hamrlik stinks
5th post or crossbar for the Habs
carey would have saved that. for sure
stupid, stupid, stupid
Yawn… zzzzzzzzzz.
I don’t f in g believe that!!!
Halak is GARBAGE

I get being dissapointed. I even get being angry to a certain extent. I don’t get the hatred or the sence of entitlement. Why bother being a “fan” and spending so much of your time watching the games if you hate it so much.
It’s a MAB MAB world.
I’m rarely wrong
Can someone explain to me how Hockey doesn’t pick up popularity in the states?
How can you not love this game?

Halak a #1???? What a joke…..hes a choker!
Yeah, way to go, Jaro!!! Soft!!!! Woohoo!!!! Suck.
OK we made the playoffs, bask in the glory. Don’t hate on the team now.
Halak didn’t play very weel, whatever. We’re in. He’ll take the days off refresh and be ready to go.
WOW…sh*tty D, but Halak has to have that one. Damn!

Jump all over me but c’mon man, Halak is Huet jr., biggest game of the year and he;s a dead fish in the crease…
ohhh do we play Washington ? to be seen
Boy is this lineup ever terrible.
Leafs win their Stanley Cup! FORE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
What is with Halak?
Somebody?
here we go again
poetic justice? go to hell
Well played
It’s a MAB MAB world.
You can see the dejection in Halak’s face.
I’m officially on the JM is a terrible coach bandwagon. Why is Halak still in the effing net?

Not a good way to get into the playoffs there boys…
Goalies in Montreal have two roles, netminder and scapegoat.
It’s a whole new deal in the playoffs. No prisoners hockey and the Hab’s are a huge underdog going forward. If we can win one round it will be monumental imo. Which team will show up? But for tonight, it’s time to celebrate!
YEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE HAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!!!!!
GO HABS GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!
No argument here. Bad night to have an off game.
Praise the day that Lapierre is placed on waivers!!!
Out in four. 100% guarantee. That’s enough for me this year. See you next year. Hopefully with a new coach, GM and 5-10 new players.
Ranger win Habs finish 7th, Flyers win, Habs finish 8th.
Go Rangers!
Yaeh! Halak makes a save
For the record, despite the loss, MTL was by far the better team tonight. Domination for most of the game.
That pretty much sums it up.
Bench Hamr and play OB ffs.
poetic justice? were we outshot? cole is an asshat
Sergei is the better one but way too timid to be an NHL top 6 forward. Andrei just plain blows. He’s KHL bound.
because this is halak’s best and Price’s best is better than halak’s best.
wow Halak is sucking tonight… a very very very bad game to have an off night.
let’s see if the team can bail him out like he has done for them so many times before

“I like what I’m seeing right now,” assessed Markov. “We’re not perfect, but we’re trying to be.”
POETIC JUSTICE???????????????????FFFFFFFFFFFFFFFUUUUUUUUUUUUU COLE YOU BAG OF SHIT
it was nice to see how our leaders played.
gomez, gio, markov, gorges and gill (yes Hall Gill other then the last goal) played a great game tonight.
each one of those palyers were dominant in what they had to do.

Thank God for Price’s extensive playoff experience.
Gill lost his man. His fault!
How the hell does HANSON have 2 goals……?
There may be other teams, but only ONE Club De Hockey…

honestly, I’d rather play the caps. we irritate the hell outta them, like the leafs with us

I love how we lost.
Yes. Seems like it. Now we have 2.
We’re in the playoffs..but F*** we can’t beat the leafs are you kidding me? halak folded tonight. I would love to see Price Play in the playoffs.
I can agree with alot of what you said
Stick the dagger in deep. Then twist it. Now!
“Hey Richard, two minutes for looking so good!”
Marouelli was awesome the night he missed Justin Williams high stick on Koivu.,
Halak will start but the leash won’t be long.
I maintain that the team I want to face is Washington. Buffalo scares me.
theo in the playoffs? no problem
Just to clarify my thinking,Just Which Team playing tonight is the 2nd worst in the leaque ?
Jaro was garbage tonight.
but he did what he had to do.
habs are oging to the palyoffs…
i have never seen a team hit this many posts in one game.. the leafs won by sheer luck, giggy’s great play and halak’s piss poor one.
overall i liked what i saw

CAN’T EVEN WIN AT HOME VS THE CRAPPY LEAFS! see you on the links 1 week from next Tuesday LOSERS!
I DESPISE THIS TEAM! I DESPISE JM! I DESPISE PG!
Can I order a Halak -10 please ? 41 – 10 = CA-REY!!
gill sucks
price better be in for game 1
good thing jersey sucks too
Exactly, calling out Halak is pathetic right now.
CALL A TIMEOUT!!!!!!!

I can’t beleive the CBC keeps Cole. He’s biased, senile and an idiot.
Washington? no big deal
Buffalo?no big deal
Jersey? no big deal
This game is getting me fall down DRUNK!
I think we should play Price for the playoff. Halak is tired. His reaction is not there,
Playoffs? playoffs? i just hope we can win a f***ing game!
After this Price should start in the playoffs. No question
Habs game plan…. drive us all nuts.
Gill had a great game tonight.. besides that goal
Caps or Sabres. We’ve played them tough this year, and Washington will let in some goals, yes they will.
A New Jersey matchup feels like a sweep.
do i get more information on this
OUCH, this is killin’ me! Halak is not having his best game when they need him, he is making Hanson look like Stamkos.
I finally agree with Timo! I got hate and venom in my veins!!! ARRRGGGH!!

Michael Cammalleri has been quoted a number of times stating that he excels under pressure. That he thrives on it. And he likes doing that in front of the home fans. In big games.

You will always be a Canadien in my eyes, Saku
I just got back from Florida not too long ago and I picked up a bottle of Patron tequila at the duty free. That should be enough to last me until the 2nd intermission (or until I pass out, whichever comes first).
You will always be a Canadien in my eyes, Saku
I have a drinking game to try with me and my buds tonight. Every time the Habs score we have to drink a beer. Every time they show Brian Burke on TV we have to down a shot of rye. Will we get drunk?
“Hey Richard, two minutes for looking so good!”
haha… Timo… Could you imagine how much you would’ve cried and whined this season if Gainey hadn’t gone out and traded for Gomer while signing veteran talent? Do you REALLY think you wouldn’t be sitting here, saying the EXACT same thing as we missed the playoffs by 20 points WITHOUT Gionta Cammi et al.? You’ll complain every season, all season, until HIO closes down or someone confiscates your internet.
Opinions are opinions but some people are impossible to please. You would bitch that it took Ovie too long to reach 50 goals this year if you were a Caps fan.
Passing out would be best!
I can’t speak for Timo, but I begged BG to do the honorable thing and resign well before the July draft and not ruin this franchise. Well we all know what he did on July 1, 2009. A day that will live in infamy in the history of the Montreal Canadiens.
If you’re watchin the game on CBC you’ll be getting hammered tonight.
You will always be a Canadien in my eyes, Saku
Better be a big bottle of rye.
Hey Boone,
You gotta fix your filters … I know why you’ve done it, but I tried to type in Dick Duff’s name and it wouldn’t let me use Dick. I had to type Dickie (as you will no doubt see in this post). Please get your techie to come up with something a little more sophisticated.
Gilmour was the ultimate weasel!
that would be really filthy.I’m just glad we don’t have to deal with Fraser or Lee. Can you imagineÉ
Didn’t Leeman win a Cup with the Habs? That should de-weasle him.
Used to be that fans went nuts on Ste. Catherine only after Habs had won the Stanley Cup. If Habs clinch a playoff berth tonight…what will happen?
… and then Gionta strips down to his jock like in Slap Shot.
Come one, you’re only telling half of his dream, Boone.
Closer to 5:30 at Andrew’s. Cool?
Finishing last in the conference and then having to give up your top 3 pick to a division rival doesn’t sound like rebuilding to me.
You will always be a Canadien in my eyes, Saku
According to the Ottawa Sun, Senators right winger Alex Kovalev has a “completely torn” ACL in his left knee and is out for the season. He reportedly will have surgery in two weeks.

the leafs are not this young team, chicago and washington are.

also, how are they rebuilding? by giving up 2 lottery picks to a division rival.

and the advantage of making the playoffs is…….?
oh yah, so we can be swept in 4 straight by NJ, Wash, Pitt.
something to look forward to. go leafs!
Bringing a guitar AND an acoustic bass. Question is, will we be playing the blues?
We can actually play with all of those teams, on our good nights.
Sirs,
Kovalev played this season?
Really?
I must have my accountants check into that.

Eugene Melnyk…Sens owner/Tax Haven seeker.
The torch be yours to hold it high!
I’m watching NESN. I turn it on two minutes ago and see its 1-0 Boston… a minute and a bit later it’s 3-0 Bruins, thank you Cam Ward.
Bruins score 3 in 1:30… how come Ward didn’t crap the bed when we played them?
Screw theory. Ya dance with the girl that brung ya.
At 3-0 I would yank him for sure, even if the goals “weren’t his fault” as most goals scored against the Habs are seen to be by their fans. Down 3 goals it’s desperation and you try anything. You know noone will try to change momentum with a fight or a big hit.
Hello Cam Ward?????
Am i reading that wrong, Three short handed goals in less than two min?
Where was that goalie the other night
How’s this for inevitability.
The Habs score the tying goal with seconds left…. and it gets waved off.
Just watch.
They score 3 in 1:30 – and they were all shorthanded goals on the same PP.
That’s got to be some sort of record.
I’m wondering if Ron Wilson will pull his goalie and go for the win in a tie game.
The invisible hand of the Bet Man is behind the perfect storm against the Habs.
“Hey Richard, two minutes for looking so good!”
GO HABS GO!!!
GREAT Puck Daddy blog here about the Habs-Leafs final meeting of the season
http://sports.yahoo.com/nhl/blog/puck_daddy/post/Can-Leafs-spoil-Canadiens-It-s-happened-before-?urn=nhl,233370#remaining-content
He cites these:
April 4, 2009 – Montreal 6 at Toronto 2
April 5, 2008 – Toronto 1 at Montreal 3
April 7, 2007 – Montreal 5 at Toronto 6
March 25, 2006 - Toronto 2 at Montreal 6
March 13, 2004 – Toronto 3 at Montreal 4
So… I guess everyone around these parts remembers the pain of 2007 more than the simple fact that in recent years, the Leafs have not dominated the Canadiens in the two teams’ final meeting of the season.
Have some faith, folks. We ARE the better team!!!

I agree with what you said about JM’s coaching abilities. He was never really the motivating type and I think that’s what our squad needs. It’s kinda low to personally attack the guy though by calling him fat and lazy!!
You will always be a Canadien in my eyes, Saku
That and there isn’t a guy on Toronto who could carry Backstrom’s, Ovie’s, Toew’s or Kane’s jock for them. There are young teams, and then there are the young teams carrying league superstars.

habs have a law that states: WE’RE NOT ALLOWED TO SCORE THAN 2 GOALS IN A GAME!
or is that JM’s rule?
The Count strictly rations out goals. He severely punishes anyone who is responsible for the free wings at La Cage aux Sports.
“Hey Richard, two minutes for looking so good!”
No finish. and i don’t mean saku!
Except that those are provinces in the same country as opposed to two different countries. You know, like Russia and Belarus.
Sorry I meant New Brunswick and the country of Quebec, lol. I know what your saying.
He’s shown to be clutch in big games, though (remember against BOS two years ago?) and that’s more than you can say for Darche or Pyatt.
Unlike Laps and Pouliot I guess. Crybaby? I have seen a talented player play a checking role admirably well while less talented players get PP time.
If you think Pyatt, Darche and Maxwell are more valuable than SK then you are obviously a graduate of the JM school of coaching.
No shit. To me, this seems like a huge load of BS.
He is not Russian. He is Belarusian, which is like Russian, kind of how being Canadien is like being American.

I agree with you. SK has way more talent than Pyatt, Darche and Maxwell and as far as defence he is right up there but that is the point. He just doesn’t get it with his attitude and he is pissing off the coaches. He is a complete downer.
More like being from BC or Manitoba.
You can say what you want but I believe I am correct about SK attitude.
Okay. Time for us to score a garbage goal. A nice greasy one.

Why dress O’B and then bench him? It’s as if JM is saying, “I only trust 17 guys.” Not a strong statement to the role players.
But I can’t complain with the game so far. The boys are flying.
O’Byrne is the 7th D tonight , he wont get much ice time.
And when you’re trusting MAB over OB…
O’Byrne’s stick could have broken up that entrance into the zone that created the fluke goal. You need someone on the back end who can exact a physical toll on guys trying to play against us.

Cherry not sounding like an idiot talking about Duchene — great, under-rated player. Rookie of the year.
is it New Years Eve on CBC? i know i”m liquored but what was that………
Does Cherry even know that there’s a game going on right now? What’s with that?
Good point, they could have dressed Sergi and rolled four lines.
Alot of the kids around here need to relax, we are doing fine. A few mad moments but we are ahead and the boys are flying.
I would like Timo to tell me how bad #57 is after that wicked fast thinking and pushing the other players stick onto the puck to make the pass? That would be a valid goal under review he never touched the puck. That is hockey sense !
All I want to see is some killer instinct on our part.
Tyler Myers

F***ing sick of it
That’s it stay on them. Need that 3rd goal.
These guys are so snakebit, no puckluck, call it what you will.
This might be the worst news besides the Habs not making the playoffs.
I come from a very mixed family, Italian,Indian…you name it.
My grandmother was just watching Coaches Corner and I…might…be…related…to, oh mann…Don Cherry.
