Wisniewski gone a good long time for this.
Check out the commentary by the idiot announcers: Seabrook “selling” the penalty.
He was out cold before he hit the ice.

That’s what’s funny about the whole business to me, we’re the most important part of it and they don’t seem to concerned with what we think. Somebody should start a facebook group to boycott the first round of the NHL playoffs and have all hockey fans go out and watch minor hockey for a week instead.
You know I think you are right, the players obviously do not respect each other enough to do something about it. Suspensions will not end it, only players respecting each other, coaches benching players and GM’s refusing to sign players will change it and at this point I see none of the three being realistic.
Meh, who cares anymore, Bettman doesn’t, The Union doesn’t so why should we?
Of course it was.
Yup, quite possibly the most idiotic thing that I’ve heard from a commentator, and that’s saying something because I’ve heard a lot of Don Cherry and Pierre McGuire
Is this a serious post?
What are you talking about?
Wisniewski’s hit was a pre-meditated attack from the blueline. He had Seabrook lined up and took 4 good strides and nailed him when Seabrooke wasnt making a legit play for the puck. It was a pure goon retaliation cheap shot, similar to what you see in Junior C hockey.
I’m not defending Ovie, but at least his was a split second poor decision by an aggressive player pursuing the puck.
The circumstances of the play were different.
Your cry for the double standard doesn’t apply. At all.
Maybe Sean Avery was right about Hayward being a crappy announcer after all?
right on , it is a joke
right on , it is a joke
oh I remember trottier hitting gainey from behind and seperating both his shoulders . Bobby Orr had his career ended by visious knee on knee hits fr the likes of the plager boys in St Louis, he Rocket started a quiet revolution . Howe scored to the ,head with his elbows and in the net with his stick ,and John Ferguson administered instant anastesia with his fists. In, nineteen seventy four the broad street bullies terrorized the League , and their Captain brutally broke the ankle of russian Valerie karmalov , until a young giant on Montreals d bent the boards with a thunderous check on g dornhoffer , and in the playoffs the same giant beat the fliers d shults to a pulp ending the reign of terror and bringing the age of enlightment to the league v1a the great Canadien Dynasty of the seventies…..
Canada’s dream for a golden treble in hockey ended today with a semi-final sledge hockey loss to the Japanese.
8 for this, and Ovie gets 2? Three cheers for the double standard.
By the way, maybe the Bruins should worry about playing hockey…
Seabrook’s intentions with Perry were foul. He tried to elbow him behind the head which is the weakest spot on the head. Wisnieski taking him out was well deserved and this is how teams should play. Someone tries to cheapshot your players take him out suspension or not.
Given that the man came all the way in from the blueline (he is a defenseman) to hit someone without the puck below the goal line, I would say it was an intent to deliver a devastating hit. He may not have intended to knock the guy out cold (I think few if none actually intend to concuss someone) but he did intend a devastating hit. He can’t evade the consequences of that behaviour with a mild 1 game suspension.

“Deserves” got nothin’ to do with it.
I have been watching hockey going on forty years now and what I have seen since the Olympics finished, with all the blatant, intent to injure headshots sickens me to no end. I do not recall seeing this many headshots in the 1970′s, and for anyone on here old enough to remember the 70′s era, it was jungle brutality at it’s finest, but players at that time had the decency to not headshot each other at every turn because most of them did not wear helmets. Sure there were bench clearing brawls, but the players as a whole at least tried to have an ounce of respect for one another. We are not seeing that in today’s players sad to say.
You mean by how long this suspension was or by how short? Honestly it should have been 2,5 and a game and leave it at that. If anything the Refs need a suspension, are they blind?? It was a stupid charge that ended up in them hitting heads, im not sure how much real intent to injure there was. I’m always going to give the players the benifit of the doubt, they are the ones out there after all. We just observe.
bigjcc you’ve always struck me as a bit of a mook, but “that’s the way we’ve always done it” is just about the dumbest justification for anything.
It’s especially dumb as justification for the biker gang mentality of hockey.
Can you guys believe they were teammates just last year? Wow, the california sun must have baked his head.
The panel on Sportsnet (I know, I know) were talking about the Boston game where the Bruins sent out their enforcer Shawn Thornton to fight Matt Cooke. They were suggesting that this sort of mob justice, where one team plans an attack on another player, is good for hockey because it sells tickets.
The problem isn’t the small number of cheap shot artists. The problem is that the game is full of neanderthals: the players, coaches, announcers. They’re all thugs.
Wisniewski is a double repeat offender. He should have gotten at least 20 games.
Oh and their GM, who called Joel Quenneville a whiner. What a moron.
The entire Ducks organization is ******* unbelievable. From James Wisnieuski (i couldn’t care enough about him to actually spell his name right), to the airhead coach they have in Carlyle, who said that the hit was clean and not interference, to these idiot announcers. The hit on Perry was questionable, but it was not as bad. I hate the Ducks. Always have, always will, and after this it makes me hate them more.
Perfect quote Patty. The second announcer is clearly thought the first one was a moron.
I don’t think she let go if all he could give out was right games in suspension
yes we can thank big bird for kicking the crap out of the hammer and effectively ending the flyers run
i totally agree but finally campbell got his man card from his wife and actually stepped up and did something good for a change
the duck announcers are complete idoits is he he selling it what a bleeping joke
I was quite disappointed to hear about it… The guys sounded really down. Heartbreaker.
“love cannot drown truth, Nefertiti”
He calles Seabrook’s hit on Perry a “high hit”, and is convinced it was a headshot. The hit was 100% normal height, and Seabrook only made contact with Perry’s shoulder. How can someone not see that after 15 slomo replays….
“love cannot drown truth, Nefertiti”
Announcer 1: “Is he selling it”
Announcer 2: “Uh….” i.e. Are you high?
Dude went down like the Washington, D.C sniper got him!
First time I’d seen it. Brutal. When exactly did it become the National Holocaust League? The violence is over the top (no pun on head shots intended). Eight is not enough, but at least it says something.
It was an amazing shot by the Japanese on a breakaway that made it 2-1 with a minute left. Sad to see our guys lose but hats off to the japanese team - hockey is finding its way around the world.
And – kind of fitting that, on the night of Japan’s big victory, Paul Kariya, the best hockey player ever of Japanese descent, scores his 400th NHL goal. Also important to note that, without Gary Suter’s thuggery, Kariya would have scored 600.
Hearing this moron talk in the interview on TSN, I wanted to reach through the screen and slug him. Trying to talk his way around the hit with cliches and the usual BS. Didn’t try to do it blah blah blah. Bullshit! What were you doing charging in from the blueline, leaving your feet, obviously trying to hurt the player. How can these guys be so stupid, it’s unbelievable!
Of course theres a double standard. Had Seabrook not been hurt when they knocked heads, Wis would have *maybe* gotten 1-2 games TOPS. Ovie pushed a player from behind and broke his bones. He gets 2 games. The double standard is as clear as it gets.
God I hate to agree with you but you are right, Playrrs have no respect for each other. I hate to say it but we may have to go back to the Dave Semenko days (was his dad’s neighbour for 4 years and Dave was BIG) where he would go by th oilers opponents bench and verbally tell them what would happen if one of their skilled players got “cheaped shoted”. Hell John Ferguson or Chris Nilan would never have let have let any cheap shots go un challenged. I guess we got big George for that but as i posted earlier BG thought he was getting a saber tooth tiger but instead got a pussy.
The color guy on that game was Brian Hayward incidentally…
Seabrook missed last night’s game in LA so I don’t think he was faking/selling the hit. Seabrook is supposed to be in Wiseniewski’s wedding this summer, guess he’s going from groomsman to sitting at the table with all annoying couples…
Can someone please show me a replay that displays how Wis left his feet? I’ve seen it from multiple angles and at no time do his feet leave the ice until well after contact has been made. His right skate does sorta lift off the ice about an inch or so just before. Seems like another case of the hysteria that’s been built up is coloring peoples reality just a tad. Stupid move, but worst hit ever? Worse then Ovies? Not even close. All this talk about pre-meditation….yup..people actually plan to hit each other in hockey..it’s a true story. Some even plan to start a a fight, also a true story. What Ovie did (hit a guy from behind about 3-5 feet from the boards) was nothing like Wis skating in from the blue line and hitting an opponent who was against the boards and facing him. Was it a stupid move? Yup. Was it a 5 min major. Yep. Was it an 8 game suspension? I don’t think so. If thats an 8 game suspension then Ovies should be a 20.
That’s EXACTLY what I said! I even posted a comment on one of the Youtube videos, about how dense the commentator was, watching a slow-mo closeup of a guy crumbling onto the ice, and asking if he’s SELLING it.
“love cannot drown truth, Nefertiti”
With the NHL’s current standard of discipline, 8 games is appropriate. However, if discipline was meted out, in my opinion, more appropriately, then I would have expected 20-30 games. The hit easily – easily – could have ended Seabrook’s season.
Disgusting.
And you probably shouldn’t sit down at a computer keyboard …
Wisnieski has no situational awareness…someone get this guy the internet so he will know that this is all anyone in the NHL is talking about these days…talk about bad timing
“Vive le col roulé! Le système, C’est le col roulé!”
haha “keep in mind this is slow motion”
That’d be the brilliant analytical wisdom of ex-Hab (and Jennings winner) Bryan Hayward.
Sunbelt hockey teams never have quality play-by-play, otherwise they’d be in better markets.
He should’ve been suspended for the rest of the regular season and part of next year. That was nothing but an intent to put Seabrook out of the game and possibly the season.
- I shall always remember Captain Koivu.

Seabrook hit on Perry was NOT dirty. In fact, it looked to me like he had Perry all lined up, realized that Perry was in a vulnerable position (note that Perry spun around presenting his back at the last second), and pulled his hit. He couldn’t stop himself entirely, but he also did NOT plaster Perry into the boards as he could have.
Wisniewski’s hit, on the other hand was: 1) charging (he came all the way from the frickin’ blue line), 2) extremely late, 3) boarding, and 4) seemed to include intent to injury (he’s a defenseman – what is he doing charging down below the goal line like that? forechecking?).
All in all, the 8 games seems like a bare minimum to me. I would have tossed him for the season and/or playoffs.

seabrook hit on Perry wasnt lilly white either he took a good shot at his head
I disagree – see my post above. Watch the video replay at the end, when they show the Seabrook-Perry hit in slo-mo. Perry starts around the net skating forwards. Seabrook sees him and starts to head him off. Perry spins around to reverse the puck and is suddenly skating backwards (and leaning over). Seabrook pulls up and delivers a far less pulverizing hit than he was originally going to do. He could have destroyed Perry and instead eases up. I would say Seabrook was fairly committed to the hit when he started to pull up and could not do so entirely.

To the announcers credit…He did apologize as soon as Seabrook was pulled outta the game…
“I went to see a fight the other night…And A hockey game broke out!” ~Rodney Dangerfield~
8 games is nothing, a slap on the wrist. The NHL has not sent a sufficient message that these hits will not be tolerated. In that way, the NHL is complicit in similar hits taking place, concussions happening, and respect for the league diminshing.
Cooke should have been suspended, Ovy should have been suspended for more than 2, and Wisnewski (sp?) for more than 8.
That’s ridiculous. Seabrook’s hit on Perry looked bad, but I agree with HabsProf… he tried to lighten up after he had him in the crosshairs before Perry spun around (not too smart).
But Wisniewski just destroyed him. He never even had the puck, so of course he wasn’t expecting the hit. Was it a blindside hit? no. Was it intent to injure? Of course!!! He never had the damn puck!
8 games is a joke. Why not send a message? Make it 20 and be done with it? I don’t get it…
