After twice blowing two goal leads, the Canadiens get three unanswered in the third period and rack up a rarity: a home-ice win.
6-3.
Third period goals by Andrei K, Kyle Chipchura and MICHAEL RYDER (two tonight!)
They’re undefeated at the Bell Centre in 2008.
Facing an unaccustomed scrum of cameras and microphones in the winning room, Ryder modestly talked about "just hanging around, looking to find room" in front of the Tampa Bay net for the second-period laser that brifly made it 3-1.
"We all want (Ryder) to go well," said Alex Kovalev. "I’m happy to see him get his confidence back. Everybody’s been in his shoes before, going a long time without a goal. Then you get the feeling and touch back."
Four of Canadiens’ six goals – including all three in the third period – were scored at even-strngth.
"We can’t wait for power plays," Kovalev said. "We have to work hard 5-on-5 and get our confidence.
"After the second period in the llockerroom everybody knew we didn’t work in that period. They scored good goals, but we mostly gave them the goals. We knew if we played the third period like he first, we’d score goals."

Who are the Refs tonight?
I’m not a fan of playing Max against Lecavalier. Lapierre is not too strong in the faceoff circle and the key against the big line is to maintain puck control.
aww, man..Dave Jackson, I hate that son of a ….
Both Kostitsyn’s have great talent. I can’t wait to see how they’re playing 20 games from now!
Great pace to the game though
I really hope Koivu comes out with a big game. I love the fact Sergei K is on a line with him too. e
Being too fancy again. Gotta shoot that puck!
Oh how I wish he would just shoot more often.
uh-oh…lightning came to play today..and max did NOT look good on that shift…
That was too close for comfort.
Ryder just gave the puck away. That leads to that scoring chance
Too much treme-e-e-e-e-e-e-e-e-e-e-lo from the anthem singer!
WElcome to the wonderful world of RDS HD. Don’t speak a lick of french, but let them take you on a ride with the emotion the guys put on calling the game. You’ll never go back to Bob and Harry.
This is my first game I get to watch on RDS, and HD, I’m pumped, to bad I’m not bilingual.
The Habs offense (and chances of winning) goes as Kovalev goes. Here’s hoping he takes the Molson Cup every month!
Yay! RDS is back!
Ryder with tons of patience. Very niiice.
Oh yeah! Rydes gets a point! And Kovy is now officially in the game!
yeah, that was hilarious..man can’t score here!
RYDERRRRRRRR TO KOVVYYYYY
RYDERRRRRRRR
Funyy how it happens when ryder finally gets quality PP time
Bobby who!!
Wow, the crowd is still buzzing after that move by Kovy. He broke that guy’s ankles.
Give Kovy the “C” to keep. Yes, I said it.
How’d it stay out?!
http://yearofthehab.blogspot.com
Wow, is this like only the second 5 on 3 we’ve had all year?
Mark Orr going coast to coast!
it’s definitely not the same at home, is it?
come on guys…pretend ur in florida
ouch…nuff said.
The Detroit Debacle.
You can tell I wasn’t having a lot of fun.
Imagine Komisarek with a point shot?!? :O :O :O
Unstoppable….
Great D by Hamrlik in front of the net
AND HUEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEET ROBS EM WITH A GUY ON TOP OF HIM!
With that being said, Lapierre wins a faceoff during the TB powerplay, then makes a nice steal in the TB. But definenlty agree with you.
One is a guy I absolutely hate..Dave Jackson.
Well, Lappy’s bigger, and I’m sure Vinny would win a lot of faceoffs against most players.
Nice new pic btw, what game was that at?
Come on Captain K, a dinky holding call
Book me a flight to Hamilton!
I vote yes.
Stick the fork in! Killer instinct, boys! Finish them.
Between Chipper and Ryder
already finished
The wings are better here in steeltown!
Hey Mr Boone, when are we having a ‘Girls of Habs I/O’ steel cage or jello wrestling match? Winner gets to have dinner with Chipper.
That’s a crappy-a$$ call, Kovy even lifted his hand up..sheesh Dave Jackson SUCKS!
another penalty 200 feet from our own net
That was weak.

LMAO, or higgins.
Guess you never heard of Nashville, Tennessee
Did Ryder play too well on that PP in the first period? I don’t think he has been on the PP since.
Just trying to keep it interesting … and succeeding, needless to say.
http://yearofthehab.blogspot.com
Degoutant!
can i be the ref?
Dinner with Freddy? Hmmm… that might be a tough one. He’d have to leave Carey at home, after all, and I’m not sure he can deal with that!
Fans are booing the icing, and can’t blame them. Komi had lots of time.
http://yearofthehab.blogspot.com
Don’t fall back! Pressure them. No back-handed knife-ins . . . Effort!
here we go again, icing the puck to protect a lead against possibly the best line in hockey. I’m going to grab a rye and ginger, anyone else want one while i’m up?
I have a feel we start to play defensive again
It was dumb…definitely. Montreal fans know their hockey.
I’ll have one… hold the ginger.

Kost46′s goal was 5-on-5 also. nice to see.
It’s funny, the only way you can tell the Habs are playing defense is that the other team has a million scoring chances all of a sudden. I don’t think the word ‘defense’ means what the Habs think it means.
http://yearofthehab.blogspot.com
how about i just pass the bottle in the paper bag to you? With the way this team plays i’m surprised we are not all alcoholics
Tampa’s goalie is weak on the grove hand.
Hahaha, you can tell when there’s no one in the opposing zone when Tampa has the puck.
YESSSSSSS
CHIPPYYYYYY
SHOULD HAVE BEEN A PENALTY FOR THE OBSTRUCTION ON SERGEI ANYWAYS.
What a pass! Chipper deserved a goal tonight, he’s been on point.
Chipper was due for a goal…what a player
For the Habs, defence seems to mean “anti-offence”.

Haha Il lance…et manngeee!
can we make it 6?
thank goodness ryder broke out of his slump…now we can actually use him as trade bait like we’ve all previously planned.
seems like Mr. Boone wasn’t the only one tipping a few back tonight.
and …yup…
reported again…
“3P 2:28: My bbuddy MMike

Over ”
who is the mike higgins we speak of
oh sorry, i see we’ve already come to the conclution that boone was drunk
Ignore my comment above
GO HABS GO
Be careful about dissing Mike. He doesn’t like it.
he seems like a decent fella and I can’t see how I’m dissing him, just asking a simple question is all because I don’t understand what he meant.
It was far from perfect but I’ll take it! There were a few bumps along the way that we can discuss tomorrow but we did what had to be done and Ryder got two goals which means so much more than just helping his team win tonight. Carbo – all logic dictates that you start Price on Saturday. Give Huet a rest and let the kid feel like he’s part of the team again.
The Original 24 Cups
What could be better than the Habs winning 6-3 and the laffs losing 6-2 I ask you?
My stars were Ryder/ Chipper/ Kovy. But RDS disagreed. Lecavalier got an honourable mention.
Eerily similar to the last time we won big!
undefeated at home in 2008, nice one Mike.
Earning a playoff berth.
Why would he not feel a part of the team? That comment made no sense to me.
Huet looks bad on breakaways and shoot outs. It’s like he gives up before they even shoot.Good hustle by everyone glad to see Chips back in the lineup and Kovalev is awesome again…….Vinnie can stay in Tampa Bay -who cares!
GO HABS GO
comme les gars de RDS dit “a la prochiane” what an awesome frigging gaame Go Habs Go!!!!!
Nice to see Ryder have a good game and the “MAX” line works well.Looked bad there for a while in the 2nd.Great to finish them off in the 3rd.
Right you are Naila, but I wasn’t looking that far ahead. How about the Habs getting in and the laff missing for the third time in a row.
Laffs lose to ANOTHER backup goalie, too. Ty Conklin has only played 6 games all year.

Bank those 2 points as Plekanec, Hamrlik and Huet will not file this one under treasured memories. However, watching Tortarella overplay his stars as the lead got away from them was priceless. Give Tampa a healthy Boyle and they will be better, but not enough to crawl out of last place this season. GM Feaster, and coach Tortarella are definitely goners, perhaps in a couple weeks.
Gilbert
Tampa hands down
Ryder only played 12:46, & 1:13 on the PP. He never got on the PP after Kovalev’s goal in the 1st. He looked good on the PP, & it makes no sense to me why he never got on it afterwards. He had 3 shots, 2 hits, 1 take away, & 1 blocked shot.
Tough call, but the team’s playing well in front of him right now. My guess is that Huet starts on Saturday. Just make sure that he gets to bed early the night before!

i chose C) toronto
That’s what I say, but some people on this site seem to think he plays the same number of minutes as last year…Get real eh!
Habs now third in the conference in scoring. Fifth in the league!!
Higgins 2G 1A
Kovalev 1G
Ryder 2G 1A
A. Kostitsyn 1G
Streit 2A
Chipchura 1G
Plekanec 1A
Koivu 1A
Komisarek 1A
Markov 1A
A lot to cheer about tonight. First, a win at home. 3 point night for Higgins. Ryder breaks his slump with 2 goals and 3 points. 4 even strength and 2 power play goals. Habs are wobbly through the second period as they blow a 2 goal lead twice. But then they rally in the third with 3 unanswered goals. Way to go guys.
great game…finally a home win….hey boone who is mike higgins??
I think boone is drunk.
Just caught Benier on NHL Net and he was ripping on the decision to start Mason. Man, I don’t want him near our room. (Yes, it was bad even in translation!)
I just meant he hasn’t played in awhile – didn’t mean to infer that he was on the outside looking in. We have about forty games left to play and I feel Price has got to start at least a dozen of them.
The Original 24 Cups
I’d rip on him, too; Mason has looked pretty weak. I expect him to be starting against the Laffs soon.

Three Stars:
1. MTL R 27 A.KOVALEV
2. MTL L 46 A.KASTSITSYN
3. MTL R 73 M.RYDER
Kovy 1 pt; A, Kasts 1pt; Ryder 3pts?
Am I missing something?
That first one against Finland was a real howler!!!
what better way to get your confidence back as a goalie then to play against the laffs
In the New Year, the 3rd star counts for more. I mean, why would you want 1 star when you can have 3? (Think of stars as beer, this may help)
He probably will, but don’t mess with a winning team, is what I was always told.
when is our next set of back to back games? do we have any left?
You know, he’s that player from Long Island. The one who plays on the line with Ryder, Lapierre, and Markov.
My bad, pass me the opener!
Good catch, I missed that he had three points as well.
Shoot, if consumption counts for anything, I deserved the Molson Cup in December!
You can have all the Molson in a Cup in January as well my friend.
except not… haha.
Agreed – you shouldn’t tinker with a winning hand, I just don’t want our prized rookie getting rusty. We don’t have any back to back games until the middle of February 12&13) and (16&17). We do play 3 games in 5 nights the next two weeks so Price could start in those middle games (both on the road – Boston and Atlanta).
The Original 24 Cups
Interesting stat: the laffs have now played 41 games, and have faced 19 backup goaltenders.

A good win. Lets see the same effort against Washington.
These youngsters have really brought some energy to the team. I hope Carbo keeps the same line-up and the same lines. By having Koivu with Tenders and SK 74, he has three scoring lines. Koivu brings experince to that line as opposed to say Lapierre. Nothing against Lapierre but I think he is better suited to Higgins and Ryder.
I hope Carbo does not start playing around with the chemistry that seems to be developing.
mjames
I call em how I see em.
Sure, that is probably the plan. I have no problem with Huet playing 3/5′s as opposed to 2/5′s for Price.
Suck HARD! surprised it’s only 19, seems like a heck of a lot more.
What do you mean, you’ve never heard of Mike Higgins before?
Hey Chuck, how many have we faced? I’m thinking less than 8?
Very good night for 3 reasons:
1. Habs win at home
2. Leafs lose at home
3. WATCH THE REPLAYS – Darcy Tucker got his butt kicked! And don’t tell Don Cherry but I think it was a European who whupped’em
Check that…Leafs lost in Pittsburgh. Can’t keep track of home vs away jerseys anymore.
It was a lot closer than the score suggests. The second period meltdown was reminiscent of the Hab’s home woes.
Nevertheless, the “new” Canadiens charged back in the third, and put the game on ice. Nice to see my boy Ryder racking up the points. His goal from thirty feet out was breathtaking! a laser! Yeah, a typical Ryder goal from the last three years. Next up Alexander the Great. I notice he’s doing a signing in the West Island on Sunday. I didn’t know that opposing players did that??? Must have something to do with Reebok. Maybe Gainey can sneak a contract in there. Hope we will see Carey Price on the weekend. I kind of miss the kid and he deserves to have some playing time. If it weren’t for him (and Cristobal) we would not have the second best point total in the Eastern Conference. We’re not talking Abby here, we’re talking a really solid “tandem”. That being said, hope to see him between the pipes on Saturday.
Tommorow, PK Subban against Max Pacioretty!
I like going to the games but I miss reading this blog as the game goes along. Maybe they can make the Bell Center Wi Fi friendly if it already isn’t so I can bring the laptop.
Very true, but while he sucked defensively, he worked his butt off and was the most dangerous Lightning player out there (in my opinion).
can you guys believe we are second in the league with goals for??????
wow
i was thinking the same thing bout OV…slip in a kid with an official contract
and it’s binding hahaha…that’d be quite the scandal
And what about Vaclav Prospal?
The star system is imperfect.
Yes. Kovy was the best player on the ice. K1′s goal is the turning point of the game. The game could go both way in the 3rd period until that winning goal.
Mr. Boone, with all due respect, how did you get they blew a two goal lead twice?
Did the score not go, 2-0,2-1,3-1,3-2,3-3
Would that not be blowing a two goal lead only once?
Or did I miss something?
not trying to nitpick, just not sure what you mean
Have a good night
It’s still almost 50%!

Bad penalty, Kovy – but if we win, all is forgiven.
Six minutes is lots of time for Vinnie and Co., so lets hope for a strong finish (something the Habs have lacked all season).
Koivu needs to keep to hands on his stick..COME ON!
kovy gets the goal, but nice play by Ryder!

GOALLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL!!!
KOVY!! woo-hoo! too bad it was when the 5 on 3 was done
give him the C NOW
People need to relax with giving Kovy the C. I’m still too disgusted with his effort from last year to even consider giving it to him full-time.
Just a reminder to all. The Habs play a EARLY game Saturday, 12:30 or 1 PM
Thanks, I would not get to see it if it was in the night.

It’s about bloody time they scored LOL! Great patience by Ryder who has been showing signs of life now.
Chipchura’s number 28 fits so well on him, don’t you think?
A monster shift by Chipchura!
He’s so solid on the puck.
YAAA RYDERRRRR
DID IT GO OFF HIS SKATE?
Chipchura’s a horse. More than just a pretty face
IL A BUT!!!
Et le buuuuuuuuuuuutttttttttttttttt!!!! That sealed the deal!
you have a point there…but with Koivu’s regular o-zone lazy penalties, habs fans arent too pleased with the captain…
So you object to Carbo having given Kovy the “C” for the Rangers game? What about him having the “A” tonight? Carbo himself noted that Kovy has been one of the best, if not the best, Hab this year.
No objection for the Ranger game, although I suspect it’s cause he played there.
It’s easy to show leadership when you’re doing well, it’s when you’re not that I care about. He didn’t show me anything last year, so I’m not gonna fall over myself praising him this year. In my opinion, he owes us 4.5 million dollars.
I agree that Kovy’s reported comments were regrettable, though I can understand people’s frustrations with the current Captain (missing the playoffs four out of seven years under his captaincy and, it seems, his diminishing relevance on the ice this year). I can also understand, with the offensive play of others and his reputation throughout the league, calls for him to be shipped — the potential return may outweigh what he actually provides to the team. The torch has been passed to Koivu. We can all appreciate what he has done with it (e.g., coming back from illness and injury), but what is he capable of doing with it going forward? Some may have more faith that Kovy has greater potential to excite fans and spark the rest of the team. Others are waiting for when the torch will be passed to Higgins. I think some are willing to accept that we are in a transition phase and that Koivu is, at best, a second line center. I mean no disrespect whatsoever, but I tend to agree.
Ryder’s back! Big night for Higgy.
RYDERRRRRRRRRRRRRRR!!!!!! wow..he’s back

Nice period boys! Carbo, please don’t go into prevent D!!
Kovy is still the best puck handler.

Kovy doesn’t care about molson, he wants STANLEY, or so he just said
Man, Kovalev just embarrasses guys, doesn’t he? Should be in the top ten every year. There’s a pretty good article on him on TSN.ca if you’ve got the time.
End of the period, listen to the crowd roar, that has to feel good!
Does anyone know what the buzz was on Carbo starting Huet again? I expected him to go with Price. What is this, three in a row for Huey?

RDS points out it was Kovy’s 350th goal…congrats
Never mind the Molson Cup… it’s nice to hear Kovy talking about wanting the STANLEY CUP.

yeah, haha, he looked like he induced a few pulled groins for the tampa bay lightning in the first there
Four I believe. no problem with that, he is our starting goalie. Price IS a rookie. Give stardom time!
Love the interview with Kovy, what did you change to improve your game this year? Duuhh, I decided to play.
No, it’s 4 I believe. Price last played against Dallas.
There’s a point being made here that Huet is the number one goalie and the coaching staff is not on the edge of their seats waiting for him to slip up a bit so that they can push Price in. I like it.
That’s right!! Keep the agressiveness going . . . get under Vinnie’s skin some more . . . force their D . . . I actually saw some net-crashing!
Go Habs
Who is this little RDS dude that tells Kovalev all about the “easy” goals? Twice now. Aren’t you lucky. Just stop this segment……
It’s 55% on the faceoffs & Lapierre has won 3 of 7. Both are big improvements over the last 3 games. Koivu is 5-0, not bad after the flu bug.
No doubt!
It would be nice to see him get another 150 for the CH!

Agreed.
Yes, it’s probably time to put the eggs in one basket or the other. It’ll be interesting to see how it plays out, mainly regarding Huet’s upcoming free agency. Keep Huet at whatever it will cost? Or hope Price is ready for the big-time next year? If it were up to me, I have no idea what I’d do.
http://yearofthehab.blogspot.com
Haha Bill, at least you’re honest. It is a tough decision, but it’ll work out, even if we lose him, we gain cap space. No two ways about it.
Wow, Huet did not move. Flashbacks to the shoot-outs.
Did he move? Was he blind?
It’s okay. We’ll get it back.
Huet seems psyched out every time there is a breakaway now. wonder what’s going through his head. I think he is overthinking instead of just reacting.
Huet must’ve thought it was the shoot-out already. Never moved!
http://yearofthehab.blogspot.com
Vinny whiffs on breakaway while Huet is praying the puck just hits him.
He’s like a deer caught in the headlights.
And overtime breakaways.

Radical Defensive Strategy Proposal: stop letting Lecavalier have breakaways? Just throwin’ it out there.

c**ti wake up this is the 2nd period, not mapes hockey
I know whenever I was made to play goalie (which was all the time) with my brothers, I always closed my eyes and hoped the shots wouldn’t hurt. Maybe Huet’s like that. Confidence issue!
Hahaha!
Well kinda hard to get confidence when everyone in Montreal is harping on how bad he sucks in shootout and breakaways!
If he’d stop sucking on them, we’d stop harping on him!

We didn’t technically come back..we were never down.
MMIKKKEEE, HOWW ISS YOUR VISSIONN? STILL SEEIIING DOUBLLE AFTER THE HOLIDDAYY ALCHOHOL FEST?
Ovechkin comes into town on Saturday, should be another good game, the Caps have been playing very well since Boudreau took over.
I would have given Ryder the first star, he did get 3 points after all.
Ryder had 2 g and an assist. Kovalev had a goal. Who chose the stars tonight, Helen Keller?
Kovalev was awesome tonight, though, every shift.
http://yearofthehab.blogspot.com
Get some rest gang. You’re gonna get lit up like a Roman candle tomorrow afternoon by my younger countrymen.
Saturday you mean, Yeats?
taking the day off work to watch the game tomorrow, should be a good one
Wanna bet?
My fearless prediction…
Canada 4
USA 3
In overtime
4 in a row!
a pint a guiness to the winner, what you say buddy
All we need are a few gunships to set the tone!
I kinda like Ramo. Just not against us.
yup, he was.
Only the single point, and several very ill-advised penalties. He played well, but not first star material.
several? the last call was BS.
Well, I was watching a different game then. I noticed him every single shift he was on, and he played a just about perfect game, from my point of view.
http://yearofthehab.blogspot.com
We would have our star forward (that we’re searching for) if he was six years younger and displayed the same attitude on a consistent basis, year after year. But hey, we’ll take what we’re given.
The Original 24 Cups
Is there a stat that shows how many penalties a player draws from the opposing teams? Kovalev has to lead in that category. Oh and in neutral zone give aways.
I doubt that, only because the ref’s never call infractions made against Kovy
http://forechecker.blogspot.com/search?q=
Scroll down to the 2nd article on December 4. Higgins was the top Canadien then in penalties drawn vs. penalties called against him.
canada vs usa tomorrow afternoon
I think he’s alluding to the junior tournament. 1:30 start on TSN.
The Original 24 Cups
Unless I’m wrong, it’s tomorrow afternoon at 2:00pm EST.
Ahh ok. thanks for the clear-up.
PACIORETTY!!!! SUBBAN!!!!
and that was NOT offside!
Listen teach, we’ve been up 3 and blown it, we don’t usually do well with a 1 goal lead, not great with ties, so yes we did come back.
Hahahahah! we were up 2 today, not three. And yes we don’t usually. But we did today! so let’s celebrate!
Ahh, when we win, there’s no greater feeling, when we lose there’s no worse feeling. When the Habs win and the Laughs lose, it’s the BEST feeling!
For the love of God I wish to F^%$ these guys would shoot instead of pass the puck.
Sergei on the point..I LOVE!
we should try kovy there … would be great
The Lightning play a really small, tight box, gives the Habs PP all kinds of room. Hope they keep taking penalties. I’m expecting a crappy even-up call any second now, though.
http://yearofthehab.blogspot.com
mais non, Kovy’s spot is on the boards. Has been since his Pittsburgh days and he works JUUUSSST fine over there.
he’s really predictable on the boards…i wonder why teams cant stop him..
haha cause if you cheat one way he takes your jockstrap the other?
Chipper’s having a good, good game
QWHOAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA
RYDER RYDER RYDER
WHAT A FREAKING SHOT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!111
That’s the Ryder we know!!
GO GO GO!!!!!
Okay, lets control the positivity… be less optimistic so we don’t get hurt.
WOOOOOOOOO The Michael Ryder I know is back!
GO RYDER
That’s Sixpence None The Richer, Mike.
Oh, and what a shot!!!

Now THAT is the Michael Ryder we all know and love
Thats the Ryder we know and love!
Great minds?
wow… his first goal at home this year.
Nice hit by Cube!
LOL…Good one Naila, the voice of reason.
Anyone else think Komi wants a tryout with Liverpool?
and I love when the fans are buzzing like this.
THIS is Montreal hockey.
Hauled down Gui… no penalty!

What action! The big ovation for Ryder, the Bouillon hits and subsequent “Bouillon” chant, Kovalev, Koivu, and Sergei all looking fancy, wow. End to end stuff. And is that a Habs’ penalty? Here come the even-ups.
http://yearofthehab.blogspot.com
ouch…this one is not over
Ah well, long shift by the forwards, huet had no chance on that one.
Geee… couldn’t see that coming…

F@&%!
why the hell is Lecavalier being booed. Typical
No chance there.
http://yearofthehab.blogspot.com
Cause he’s not on our team?
so yeah, I’d say it’s typical, what a weird comment.
and then habs fans wonder why he wont sign with us…
just plain stupid…
Winter Classic, Shminter Classic — this is real hockey.
why don’t we boo every player thats on their team then? Theres a few people booing JUST him when he touches the puck, is he = to lindros now?
Koivu-ryder-Lats.
Is Sergei being punished? or is Ryder for scoring?
Where the heck was our team on that one? we only had 2 guys on the freaking ice?
WOW..no words…this is getting ugly.
F@&%!
Ugh, I feel sick. Gotta handle that pass!
Ugh…

He said he didn’t want to play here and was happy in Tampa. so boo him for all I care. He’s not with us, he’s against us.
i’d rather they boo him than our players!
get off your damn knees Cristobal
ok, put the blame where it belongs, on the defense-men making the pass or the forwards having a picnic somewhere in the arena.
With Mason in net, I’m feeling kinda frisky. Beers are on me if you win.
Ahh, so they decided on Mason? Hmm, I would go with Bernier.
Can we send Price down for a game?

In for a penny, in for several pints! Good luck tomorrow!
Same to you. I’m worried because you guy’s have one Hell of a team this year and your favored to win it all.
Taking the day off? You just had your Christmas holidays!!!! Don’t forget the other game at 10:30.
The Original 24 Cups
i think we got a couple of sea-kings we can spare
Another good shift by the Chipper line
when is price coming in?
‘
it seems cristo cant handle 4 games in a row…although he had no chance on the second goal
Very bad defensive play by Cube and Gorges.
Anyone think we should shadow Vinny, with Lapierre perhaps? Carbo used to shadow the opposing team’s best player all the time (e.g., Gretz in the ’93 finals). As it stands now, Vinny is flying.
I think they ARE trying to shadow him with Lapierre!
http://yearofthehab.blogspot.com
Man, Naila was right…shoulda listened.
HUGE PK…holding my breath
On the bright side:the Habs will now abandon the ‘defensive shell’until they score another goal.
Huge kill here: tough call, but I think it evens thing ups in the penalty department.
Habs have to start winning draws. They lost every draw on the last PK and got scored on.
http://yearofthehab.blogspot.com
On a more cheerful note, I like the music being played at the Bell tonight
“Oh marone.”
- Paulie Walnuts
Can we PLEASE win a D-zone faceoff for once?

don’t think its possible…
Another Huge PK
Game is slipping away
Oh, no … and Markov had all kinds of time. That’s a suck-ass penalty. Win some draws!!
http://yearofthehab.blogspot.com
Has Gorges played after the 3rd TB goal?
Notch another PD (Penalty Drawn) for Kovalev.
Kovalev with his league leading number of penalties he’s drawn. Gotta love him.
Is he waving off that penalty????
http://yearofthehab.blogspot.com
I wish the NHL kept a drawn penalties stat. Cause it would be scary how many Kovalev has drawn.
Isn’t that a delay of game penalty as well??
I dunno why they didn’t call that. it didn’t seem to go off the “baie-vitre” to me.
Yep. I guess time expired before the puck made it into the crowd…

Waved off! Why?
http://yearofthehab.blogspot.com
I want a replay!
http://yearofthehab.blogspot.com
Ref called deflection.
huet looked like the stick goalie for the table top hockey game on the third one. what was that? inching over with his glove straight out to his side!!
deflection off of what? le baie-vitre? LMAO
It would be nice to get one replay challenge per game.

Three goals against in one period, that’s the same old Habs at home. Lecavalier gets a breakaway, St. Louis gets an easy one on the PP, and then Bouillon and Gorges just serve one up. Habs are lucky it’s tied!
Predictions? I’m looking for Ryder to score the winner, 6-5 in overtime. Hat trick for the Newfie.
http://yearofthehab.blogspot.com
Hey Mike, your keyboard keys sticking toggether orr soommethinngg?
Wow, I’ve seen you defend worse goals allowed by Price, Chuck! What’s your last name anyway? Does it rhyme with ‘trice’?

You and me both. Of course it was Mr. Dave Jackson, I can’t stand him.
Two games in a row Huet has been absolutely frozen with an opposing player in the clear. Unfortunately, I see a trend. Love him otherwise, though.

Well, it will be interesting to see how they come out for the third. Do they have enough character to overcome this little setback? Stay tuned.

Orrr Merrrlot!
http://yearofthehab.blogspot.com
Koive is 10-2 on face offs, by far the best Canadien. Lapierre & Latendresse have 4 hits each, Lapierre has a blocked shot, Komisaerek has 3 hits & 3 blocked shots, Bouillon 3 hits, & Markov has 2 hits & 2 blocked shots. The hits are 26-18 for Montreal.
haha I think he may have hit the bottle after Gorges was on the ice for the 3rd TB goal.
Hope Carbo didn’t punish K2. A penalty against Montreal was expected at that time with Montreal leading by 2 goals.
Bouillon played a bad period. He left the box on the 2nd goal and created a 2 on 1. He made a bad pass on the 3rd goal.
This Bell Centre problem isn’t new, didn’t they win 2 playoff games in Carolina and then blow the next 2 at home? I know Saku got injured, but maybe that was not the only part of it.
Yeah, stay tuned for “As the Stomach Turns”…well mine will be.
Very astute observation. LOL.
No, the problem goes back to the opening of the Molson Centre. What is their record all time at the Molson/Bell Centre? Anyone know?
http://yearofthehab.blogspot.com
Interesting replay on the Vinnie goal… just a bit offside, eh?

Why couldn’t they bury one there?!?
Ryder looks dangerous.
http://yearofthehab.blogspot.com
The NHL should hire two guys per game to monitor offsides at the blue lines. We could call them “linesmen”. What do you think?
http://yearofthehab.blogspot.com
Koivu’s first shift? 5 mins in?
Bouillon coughed up another there. Come on Habs!! GHG!!

Now there’s an idea with legs!

Weak clear by Skost. He’s having a sub-par night.

Well, ir was getting near choking time (hope this is the reverse jinx).
Away tabarnac!
YAAAAAA
SHOOT MORE KOSTY!!!
I say let’s move back to the Forum.

WOW, finally Andrei shows Montreal fans his beautiful shot
I think Eric Engels’s blog says it best
“It’s a new year, and it’s time for a new attitude. Everyone needs to look at the big picture, and believe by the end of it the Habs will compete as hard as they can. They need to be encouraged at home, where they’ve struggled. No amount of booing will cure they’re play at home. There is a lot to accomplish in the final 43 games. The Habs still have to play Ottawa six times! It’s clear that a winning home stint can play a major role in securing the Canadiens post-season hopes. As fans, do your part to make it happen. Make the Bell Centre the most difficult building to play in–for the opposing teams!”
nyaaa, way to drop the engle’s bomb. Eric has the right view on this one, be rabid crazy habs fans, but lets back our team, give them confidence to grow, experiment be creative.. Booing them will destroy the development or at least retard it.
Ok, so none of our young kids look like crazy superstars (yet), but look at the solid depth our youth will most definetly be, and im very excited for the future. We could have the best players in the world like kovalchuk, and Lecalvalier etc, but look at the teams they play on, there is no depth or chemistry from the other lines. Let the kids grow up together, get rid of the vets as the young kids show more promise and fill the line up with franchised developed players.
i think the next UFAs come available will be much more excited to play for us, at least we only hope …In Bob we trust….
Let’s go buy one!
100$ LMAO
I think the reason why we’re not as good at home this year is cause our young guns are trying to play for the crowd too much. They get up and pressure themselves because they want to show off. It’ll get better with experience.
we need to become a better team at home because 8 of our last 12 games of the season are at home. You can pretty much guarantee that with the eastern conference being so tight it will come down to the last week of the season. |Just like eric engels said, the fans need to make it tough for the opposition at the bell center, not tough for the home team.
The guys have got to understand that it’s useless to try to impress the crowd and give a “show”. You gotta stick to the game plan and the best way to cheer up a crowd is to offer them a win…
Go Habs Go
Stick to the game plan. Our 25th Banner is the only thing that can SATISFY US. (Very SAD BUT F’EN TRUE)
I don’t think there’s any particular reason that the Habs have struggled at home or excelled on the road this year. A couple of different bounces and things would look totally different. If it’s actually something as simple as the players getting rattled by the fans, well, I would expect professional hockey players to be made of sterner stuff!
http://yearofthehab.blogspot.com
Bill:
I find the Habs try to be way too fancy at home. I wouldn’t say they get rattled, although you make a good point, they just have to stick to the game plan. Simple as that
The Lightning would love to trade Richards, mainly for his contract, but I wouldn’t bite. That said, I’d much rather have Richards at 7.8 per year than Patrick Marleau at 6.8 per year.
http://yearofthehab.blogspot.com
Makes me wonder – how much cap space do the Habs have as of today?
Mike, your post titles are always awesome.
