Tough to beat them with 18 shots.
The Canadiens wasted a dominant first period.
I move my feet more sitting at work reading HI/O.
you’re a journalist too! I get it, un-biased reporting!
There is a difference that you obviously do not comprehend between making a MISTAKE and not giving any EFFORT! but there is a difference,,,,a big one
To that point, Sergei was on for about a minute and a half and was absolutely cold from the bench as that had been his only ice time in the period and it wasn’t just him screwing up that play.
– I shall always remember Captain Koivu.
Many people are missing the important point. A smart coach plays his BEST players. Is Darche and Maxwell an improvement on a line of Metro, AK and SK? It is so obvious a move it makes me crazy!
What is the possible downside? If the brothers suck then sit them like JM sits Darche and Maxwell anyway. But what if they click and make an effective line?
Dude thats not a mistake!!! That is a complete lack of EFFORT and when the ENTIRE team is working their ASS off to try and win…he just sits around and does NOTHING i d zone coverage!!! please stop arguing in favor of this kid!!! its pointless
Simply stated, the Habs played shorthanded for the entire time that the puck was in their end. In fact it was worse. At least on the PK the team utilizes the box defense.
Cherry picker. He hasn’t learned a thing since I made this avatar
Buddy, Martin Mcguire is NOT a yellow french journalist, like you ignorantly stated. He he extremely well respected in the media.
Again, Ill come right back and tell you that Darche might not have that much TOI but Sergei is in the PRESS BOX so what does that say about how comfortable he is in using him. If you are going to argue that JM is incompetent because he wont use sergei than why are you arguing in JM favor about his usage of Darche.
It boils down to this, they would both play on the 4th line….he has to decide who is going to give him more on the 4th line and obviously he has chosen Darche. I agree with him for obvious reasons and you disagree because you somehow think Sergei will all of a sudden be a difference maker….sorry to tell you but he wont.
1 mistake = benched eh? Funny because I witnessed several mistakes by different forwards and d-men. Stupid uncalled for penalties too, but our top forwards. What exactly did Sergei do of late to make it a one strike-your out deal?
Brutal. Not involved in any way. A spectator.
You’re wrong. They’re journalists, not fans
Bertie is upset about the Quebecois content on the Canadiens so he’s rooting for the Penguins who have more Francophones on the team I think.
First, they might be fans but they are hired as journalists.
Second, the Pens have dominated us for six out of six periods so far, and won just about every battle for the puck. This ain’t 1986 folks.
Hooray for him, he’s got how many in the playoffs and can be trusted with how much ice time?
NHL playoffs are a different animal, can anyone, hand on heart swear they’d like to see Darche play more right now?
I remember Sergei covering the point so a defencemen couldn’t rush the play, I remember Hamrlik getting beaten badly by Ovechkin as he hopelessly tried to match pace with OV (There’s a laugher for you) instead of sticking to better positional play. Hamrlik blew the coverage that led to the goal there.
Behind by two goals late in the third and the top six are out of gas. JM looks down the bench for some offensive spark from the bottom two lines who are still fresh. Who would you rather have on the ice? Darche and Maxwell or Metro, AK and SK?
Having a fourth line with Metro, AK and SK as a backup is just smart, especially as the fourth line has averaged less than two minutes a game anyway. If the line is clicking it is all gravy if not you will not miss Darche and Maxwell. It is a win win situation.
Here is the link that shows Sergei’s last shift….after this he was benched then left out of the lineup
click on the video of Ovechkins goal and youll see
I hope a good cap-friendly deal can be signed BUT the market for defencemen has become rather cornered. Would anyone argue Komisarek is worth 4.5 million? Anton Volchenkov figures he can get at least that much n his next deal. Is Brian Campbell in Chicago worth 7.1? Sather’s signings in NY have done wonders for overinflating defencemen value, Chara, okay he’s got a Norris but a year older than Markov and he’s getting 7.5 a year on his current contract.
I want something worked out, but I also acknowledge that unfortunately, the incompetence of the NHL has made it harder for teams to negotiate good deals with pending UFAs.
To SeriousFan and everyone else questioning why Sergei is NOT playing. Go to nhl.com and check out the highlights from the game MONTREAL vs, WASHINGTON APRIL 23rd. Watch the highlight of Ovechkins goal. It plays for about a minute or some and show the ENTIRE play develop. Watch Kostitsyn and youll know why he is NOT AND SHOULD NOT play
Last night on L’Antichambre, Bert Raymond and François Gagnon predicted the Penguins would win Game 3 by a 3-2 score.
Dave Morissette and CKAC morningman Michel Langevin said it would be 3-1
Uh- correct me if Im wrong, but aren’t these guys “fans” of the Canadiens?? Or do they always look for clouds on a sunny day??
Darche plays with heart. He has 10 pts. in 29 games, Sergei has 18 points in 47 games.
The NHL doesn’t test for drugs during the playoffs.
well if you look at the trend of NHL contracts, they’re all long term deals that take them to 40, and the years from 35 to 40 decrease in value.
if we put markov down for a 5 year term, he would be 37 at the end of the contract, and if we chose to re-sign him, his money will be on the books even if he retires or gets sent down (see: Jaroslav Spacek).
as a GM, pierre gauthier does not want to put himself in the same situation we are in with spacek, with markov. he’s gotta be creative and lock markov up long term, and at the same time, lower his cap hit.
similar deals are hossa’s and savard’s. savard goes for 7-7-6.5-5-1.5-.525-.525 (cap hit of 4.2). he’s currently 32 and would be making 36 when he’s making 1.5m.
savard is a top 5 playmaker in the league, and markov is a top 10 dman in the league, so it’s comparable, the contract i suggested (with alterations of course) suggst that markov gets paid like a top D for the first 4 years, and then tail off for the last 4, which is identical to savard’s deal.

I remember some yellow journalism by the French press last year that tried to link the brothers to organized crime during a bad NHL season so they had to sensationalize some stories that turned into a whole lot of nothing because they were looking to sell more newspapers during a bad part of the season and sold their journalistic integrity along with it. Also, believe it or not, sometimes reporters EMBELLISH stories to get more viewers on their program, like when Tony Marinaro reported a heated remark from Markov to Price earlier in the year, a type of remark that is probably passed between different teammates 10,000 times a year.
Darche has how much TOI in the NHL playoffs btw? That should tell you how comfortable JM feels about throwing that guy out there on the ice, he’s played a little over 3 minutes in his last two games combined. He doesn’t have an NHL-calibre skill set and the regular season is the regular season, his GPG % ignored, when has he looked like he wasn’t completely, utterly outclassed in the Playoffs? He’s not a regular forward on any proper NHL team, he was an injury fill-in and that’s all he ever was. Matt D’Agostini in 08-09 has a better GPG than Darche does as well, should we trade to get him back?
chemically, it is similar to cocaine, but without as much euphoria. There are some studies that suggest it can help college students concentrate more effectively, but it is still a stimulant, which can have the unwanted effetcs of jitters, shakes, anorexia and basically boucing off the walls. hahaha oh, and it can cause serious heart problems if taken long term inappropriately
I believe it is SWEET not SWEAT 😉

What makes the NHL playoffs so compelling are the storylines.
Knowing they don’t have enough raw firepower to shoot it out with the better teams, the Habs committed to a rope-a-dope strategy that forces opponents to take a lot of shots from the outside.
Washington refused to adjust, simply assuming their superior talent would prevail. In this round, the Pens have the advantage of hindsight. They know that must adapt or risk suffering the same fate as Washington. It will be interesting to see what they do to counter Montreal’s approach.
I’m not crazy about Martin but I like the nothing-to-lose approach. The Habs know you only have to play a little better than .500 to win a series … and Stanley Cup. Pittsburgh is going to win games; Montreal can’t keep Malkin and Crosby bottled up all the time, can they?
Admirable in its execution, the Habs’ system is a fragile one to some extent. It requires a lights-out goalie who doesn’t give up rebounds. And an opportunistic offense that can take advantage of limited scoring opportunities. To take this series to the limit, Montreal needs scoring from someone other than Cammalleri, Pleks, and Gionta. Pouliot and Dead Man Skating have to contribute. I suspect that it the series turns Pittsburgh’s way, Martin will loosen the reins on Subban and make him a bigger part of the offense.
More props to Gainey. He brought in hard-working players who have won championships and a veteran coach who’s able to work from his team’s strengths.
Maybe but neither does Sergei
What are you implying here? Just genuinely wondering.
If this game gets out of habs and the caps are way up I hope PK knocks him out like Kane did.
Hey buddy, i dont know even know where to start. First off I listen to MArtin Mcguire who is probably the person the MOST connected with the Canadiens and he said this morning that there are player who dont want to be named who say that this kid doesnt care and they dont want to play with someone who doesnt care. Secondly you have a short memory, he was a problem last season, remember the news paper headline…..
“If Sergei was that much of a problem, he would’ve been kicked in the summer or this season, the way Gainey dealt Grabovski because he was a complete ***.”
he was taken care of, he was sent to Hamilton and told he would be traded. The only probelem was NO TEAM WANTED HIM!!
If Darche is such a farce than why does he have a better goals per game % than sergei??
Man for a guy named serious fan im not too impressed.
Darche is not an NHL forward, he was a nice little feel-good story through the injury-plagued season but the playoffs have proven he can’t handle this level of hockey. He just doesn’t have it in him despite all that valuable heart.
He’ll need more than that, Cammalleri just had an MCL sprain and AK didn’t have a ligament tear, ACL tears require surgery and several months of recovery.
Markov can command 7 million in his next contract year in free agency, the team would be fortunate to sign him to 6 per year on a 5 year term I’d say. Regardless of some injury troubles, the one that really sidelined him was a freak accident and won’t repeat thanks to the new kevlar hockey socks he wears. He’s still a Top 10 NHL defencemen and teams will give up a lot to get them including outspending each other in the cap.
Why does everyone want to see a kid play who doesnt try and really doesn’t care???? Not playing really doesnt bother him…hes collecting his cheques. I am less perplexed about JM not using him than why everyone seems to think there is an upside to playing this kid. He scored 7 goals this season in 60 games this season. Darche scored 5 in 30 games…. I dunno, I guess I would just rather see a guy who gonna go to war and do whatever it takes to win than some kid with some skills but no heart and no work ethic.
Do you have a lot of close personal chats with the Montreal Canadiens? If we can’t afford passengers, WHY is Darche playing under a minute a game? Because he’s not an NHL forward and having him on the bench is a farce, on for under a minute, only one of 5 Canadiens to go – on Sunday afternoon.
If Sergei was that much of a problem, he would’ve been kicked in the summer or this season, the way Gainey dealt Grabovski because he was a complete ***.
if that’s true, he’ll require surgery and will be out for 6 weeks like AK and cammy.
next year is markov’s contract year, he’d be 32. I wouldn’t sign him to more than 4 million per year given 3 serious injuries in 1 year. his legs will be gone by the age of 35 (just like alex kovalev). markov could still provide a stabilizing force on defense with a good break out pass, and can still control the PP, but we won’t see many rushes up the ice from him anymore.
i think ideally we’d have to sign markov to a 7-8 year deal, cap hit of around 3 million. something like
6-6-5-4-3-2-1-1 (cap hit at 3.5 million)
he’s become a target, and it’s frustrating to watch people always gunning to take him out.
halak off the wall? good one! haha
you know who could use some averse effects of ritalin, Andrei Kostitsyn.
Team 990 saying Markov has torn ACL.
teammates dont like him, coach doesnt like him…..why?? cause he doesnt care and doesnt try! they say it themselves… this team cannot afford passengers and even though he has SOME skill, Darche plays with more heart and more effort….he will do ANYTHING to keep a goal going in while hes on the ice. Sergei ??? probably not
Halak is too cool for drugs man
That’s what I get from this
But lets say Halak was off the wall regularly and has the Ritalin prescribed it would no doubt help his ability to perform on the ice.
actually if you take ritalin without having it prescribed, it can have an averse effect to what you want.
had some friends take it in hopes of concentrating better to study and they became off the wall.
Darche out to play another 57 seconds. JM just outright refuses to play SK doesn’t he? Sad.
Agree – put the Kbros together with any forward, I don’t care. Except Gomer, he stays with Gi. You could put Camy with Gomer and the 2 bros with Pleks for a few shifts – could be interesting. That kind of kick in the ass may be just what they need. And Pouly did not look out of place on the 3rd line. This is better than Moen as a top-six IMO.
Now that i think about it it’s probably banned….
Agree 100% – whenever it’s an important game, I always try to be live at least at the end of the 3rd or through OT. It’s just not the same when you’re trying to send positive vibes, yelling “Get that puck in cammyyyy!” if it’s not live.
That said, I’ve got to put the daughter to bed and being able to do that and not miss a minute is a whole lot better than seeing it live but missing 15 minutes of gametime. I catch up by skipping all the blah blah in the intermission. That option is another plus!
HABFAN in leafland
Re Cooke on Subban
What is really suspicious is first Evander Kane then Subban
Serious Question: are Goalies allowed to take ritalin if prescribed?
I ask this question because from what i hear Ritalin can make you have focus and constant concentration at what you are doing. Is it possible that an NHL goaltender who takes Ritalin before a game has an advantage?
Hey! Where are all the supermarket (METRO, IGA, SUPER C, etc) specials on the chicken wings boxes for 6.99$ like two years ago when we made the playoffs ???
— YES HABS CAN!! —
Lets hope for non US Anthem booking.
Put the Tits sisters on the fourth line between a healthy centre no sense having a fourth line on the bench all night
Cmon JM ! Live a little ! Take a walk on the wild side.
Where all the Russian girls go :
Na NA NA NA NA NA NA NA NA NA NA NA NANA NA NA NA NA NA NA
Sergei lives out on Nuns Island
In the training room he is everybody’s darling……….
Ooh Aah Habs on the war path
Haha! I love this pic!! I saw it in 2 different newspapers. I was all-smiles and giggly in front of my passengers. lol
Just incase you haven’t seen the latest in the history will be made clips!!! GO HABS GO!!!
I would’ve thought it’d be “Home sweat F. home!”
Because his performance is so unreliable. He absolutely has better upside than Darche, but I think JM does not want to be experimenting.
That said, I would have inserted Sergei into the linup. There is no point having a 4th line that only plays 4-5 minutes. Sergei has shown he can be an intelligent defensive forward from his work on the PK, and the brothers have played well together in the past. Metro is an intelligent center man, and you could turn this 4th line into something of a threat.
I like Darche and all but I’d rather see SK-Metro-AK
I’m perplexed as to why JM does not like this kid
In case anyone missed it. The Kirk Muller fist-pump.
LET’S – GO – MET – RO
that guy was so good a few years back with boston and philly during the playoffs, i’m hoping his shoulder is feeling stronger so he can wreak some havoc tonight. we need a decent 4th line presence, imposing some physical wear and tear, getting faceoffs in Pitt’s zone, and maybe even adding scoring depth. bring it, boys. i don’t care if AK scores, i just want to see him throw a some hits and get his head in the game.
The PVR is great, especially since I can set it with my cell phone. So if I’m gonna be late or something. AWESOME.
However, there is something about watching live games. Knowing that everything is hapening at this moment and everyone is experiencing it with you at this same moment… Plus holding in the pee, and running back to the tv is part of the tradition. The notion in my household that everything revolves around the game while its on, is something I cannot trade in.
I will say though, hitting the FF button just to hear that THUD, and the your watching LIVE tv is disappointing.
There may be other teams, but only ONE Club De Hockey…
Sweat. Play on words in reference to how hard they work
The Bell Center Faithful will show the cheer-only-when-we-score Mellon arena fans how its done. The 4 Québecois will tremble when we proudly sing our National Anthem.
Win with the Habs, Die with Habs… GO HABS GO for Life
TV Timeouts – is this really news to anyone? This has been the case for the past 5 years at least. Used to be, I would look at the time left to see if the next whistle (not icing) would be a timeout to go run to the bathroom and/or get a beer. Now I just get ready to fast forward on my PVR to skip the commercials.
PVR’s are great. It’s nice to pee relaxed, when you’re good and ready, not holding it in or skipping the flush to save time…
EXACTLY, WHAT CAN YOU LOSE?? the 4th line sat all last game. if they give you 7 to 8 good minutes, you’re ahead of the game!!
i’d like to see Sk, metro and darche as the 4th. let AK sit and get pissed off, maybe the vets will have a positive influence on the younger K
boone, did you mean home “Sweat” home, or sweet??
Does anyone know if the Brothers K are playing tonight?
Maxwell is way over his head. I like the idea of Metropolit being given
a chance to redeem himself along with Andrei and Sergei. There’s a lot
of potential there… And if they blow it, we just go back to 3 lines.
He is a Douchebag of the highest calibre and needs to be silenced….he would have fit in well with the 70’s Flyers.
“Without the strength of the past, the team may face a choice – to win, or to be French-Canadian?” — Ken Dryden
I wish the league would do something about this carcillo clown. Faking high sticks, lying about being bit?? Would Avery even do that?? I’m not so sure. Avery will do what he does publicly. The league should fine him for the embelishment. I like the agitator role, but this is a little bit over the top.
It’s only a small point, but I noticed something interesting about the “timing” of Sunday’s game.
Near the end of the third period, a long shift was concluded by a Montreal icing. All of the Hab players were gassed, especially after having killed off some penalties. A minute later, a two minute television commercial break stopped the game. I remember thinking that the timing was absolutely perfect for our exhausted players. It seemed to go on forever.
That led to a few questions. Are these television timeouts planned in advance? Is the team privy to when they will occur? If so, shouldn’t a coach keep that in mind and include it as part of his game plan? Especially a coach that dresses the full line-up of players but only uses a short bench throughout much of the game?
Here are a couple of good articles from the Toronto Star concerning tonight’s game.
Steve, TV timeouts take place after the first stoppage (cannot be an icing) in play after the 14, 10, and 6 minute marks.
Oh man the hate…
Molsons have owned this team for months, chill out already.
Fleury must have done some foul things to his goal posts, as they ended up being the difference. Those two go in in the first period, Montreal wins. Those saves on Subban, Pleks and Cammalleri sure helped as well. I’m not one to harp on the officials but that call which let to the winning goal was totally bogus and only called because of bitchsby yapping to the ref because Hal Gill is bigger than him. Like a child that gets knocked over in the sandbox. Talbot held Gorges I believe it was, much worse than that play and of course it’s not called.
Really liked the play of Lapierre. Took him the whole bloody season to figure it out, but he’s playing like he should be now. Being an all around shat disturber, and playing quality minutes and even generating scoring chances. He seems to have a pretty hard shot, needs to utilize it more when he’s got the opportunity. Better game by AK, needs to bring it every game, good to see him dishing out some hits again tonight, needs to bring that every game as well. They’ll win next game, wouldn’t want to make it too easy on us now would they
I miss Bruce Boudreau’s coaching tactics, or lack of the same.
good effort and dont forget we really have many 7-8 goal a season players on the forward lines so this type of game will happen as you cannot expect the same players to score every night…
Tonight I hate the Molsons. For turning this team into crap and having us fans hope that crap can give us a miracle. It shouldn’t be this way. This franchise should never be in the last seed looking for miracles. And that is what we are rooting for. The Molsons are shit and they will continue to be shit until they want to win. And I’m sorry but for all those fans who fill the building each night you are the problem. Don’t go until they give us a product that is worth filling the building.
JM is brilliant. How else to explain his plan to play with 11 forwards for the second consecutive game. Is Darche the secret weapon only to be used in case of overtime? Brilliant JM.
“Good judgement comes from experience, and experience comes from bad judgement.”
P.K. Subban plays like a vet…. this is GREAT!!! Habs tie it up in Game 4.
The THREE AMIGOS have put a minimum 10 MILLION into the pockets of Geoff Molson with these five playoff games. They have jobs for life.
Our defense and goaltending were excellent. Their’s were as good. We did not get the bounces. They capitalized on the PP with our two best penalty killers in he box.
But I really think we lost this game because our offense ran out of gas. Reason? Ever since the last three games of the Caps series, we have played with three lines. It has caught up with us. JM has to get 10 min out of a forth line combo that will stay in the game. This way, our top three lines can be fresher throughout the game. Metro saw 5 min tonight. AK a few more shifts on other lines. Darche never saw the ice. Maybe the Tits bros with Metro?

How can you blame the Molsons? It was the other owner that built the foundation.
i think we will keep the next two games close but lack of scoring is catching up…we were around 23rd in scoring this year..too many gritty forwards that score one goal every 15 games
Not even 10 minutes, just giving the top lines an extra 7 minutes would give them something for the 3rd period. SK playing on the 4th could relieve Gio, Gomez or Pleks of some of those long PK shifts.
After leading 3-1 in the game, Wings loose to SJ in OT and are down 3-0 in the series. Looks like SJ will not choke in round 2 either.
Too many forwards that score only one goal every 15 games.
I edited out the word Gritty.
The Habs know they can play with these guys more than ever. They will come back with more resolve in Game 2. Need a couple of players to step it up though.
Excellent game for PK. Bold decision to call him up for the end of the Caps series. Hope all the experts that slammed that move realize the error of their ways.
I’m really going out on a limb by saying Habs in six.
How the hell did Malkin not get a penalty along with Gionta in that scrum? They were practically fighting. That would have been an acceptable trade-off with the Pens having that PP at the beginning of the 3rd. But of course, he’s the one who scores. However, let’s not take anything away from Marc-Andre F. Fleury tonight, he played well.
The great *conspiracy* deepens! The mental midget Bettman in the building to watch his Golden Boy cash cow along with the head officiating supervisor, in a game officated by Watson and Pollock. Ugh.
To You From Failing Hands We Throw The Torch, Be Yours To Hold It High.
I think we should play Price.
As a forward!
Habs’ll be ready for game 8.
Change the ‘Gr’ for ‘Sh’ and you’re not far off.
Habs margin for error is razor thin and if your goalie let’s in one goal and you lose the game, it’s because you have some offensive problems.
For the Habs to be successful they HAVE TO capitalize on the few scoring chances that they get. If they can’t, like last night, they lose.
They need to get more bodies to the net and pick up on secondary scoring chances. They had almsot none last night and need to have people picking up the rebounds.
I’m still not impressed by the Pens. They are VERY beatable! Go Habs Go!http://www.habsaddict.com/2010/05/canadiens-penguins-fleury-earns-shutout.html

This building is going to explode. Honestly, it’s gonna be so loud it’s gonna look like a controlled demolition in there. I am absolutely psyched just to witness it on television.
I guess no suspension for Adams. What a joke!! he missed like 2 and a hlaf minutes, but they will say that the one game was enough. what a joke. It should be 2 to 3 games!! if the MAB was injured, it would have been. Basing suspensions on injuries and not intent is a poor road to go down. Intent and action should be the main issue
The message from the league is you get one free shot! Ironically, if he started a fight in the lat 5 minutes he gets an auto 1 game suspension, so instead of fighting, the gutless puke levels our smallest d-man from behind. The game was already over, so why not?
I think the one point we can take from this year, is that we are not condemned for years to come with the players we have. No matter what happens, we have solid building blocks and option to move forward.
Jon, it’s spelled ‘goose’
God I wish we had a heavy hitter or two on our team. I know O’B can lay on the body pretty good and I’ve even seen Gill do it every once in a while but we need someone (or more than one) who can consistently pound people (Crosby) when they touch the puck.
Don – In fairness to Gainey, I think that’s what he had in mind when he signed Mara as a top six Dman. Markov’s injury in game one and Spacek’s inability to play on the PP eventually led to the arrival of Bergeron. That meant we weren’t able to carry a defenseman who could use his size. Then Mara got hurt and it was game over.
There is no one in Hamilton who can fit the bill so we will certainly being looking for another physical Dman this summer, be it by trade or free agency.
Thanks, Mark. You would think that it’s safe to assume that Martin would then utilize part of this info into his strategy for alloting time to his players. Three TV timeouts basically equals three “phantom” shifts by a 4th line. It works for both teams but we need it the most seeing we have little depth on our roster.
A month ago I might have said no, there is no way Martin understands this. However, I am sure these “planned timeouts” play a role in shift strategy. It allows for almost limitless options, comeback with the hot line, give the faceoff to the 3rd line in an effort to give even more rest to the top 6.
Looking around at the minutes of other teams and it seems every team is rolling only three lines, in last night’s games Philly and Boston had four forwards each with less than 10 minutes of ice time, and Chi and Vancouver had three towards with less than 10 minutes.
I agree with the general point that the team needs more minutes from the 4th line. I would like to see the Kostitsyn brothers with Metro, I understand the brothers are currently whipping boys; however this line has some offensive upside. The bros. have a history of playing well together, and with last change tonight, this line could be used as a real match-up weapon against the likes of Adams, Rupp, Fedotenko and players of that ilk. And if it doesn’t work, oh well Maxwell, Darche and A. Kostitsyn got something like three minutes between them in the last game. This is the perfect opportunity to try getting the brothers together and get Andrei back into the game. If the Habs run is to continue it sure would help to have his scoring.
Great post with an interesting, plausible roster suggestion. However, I wonder if Martin is a bit like Mike Boone – stubborn as hell!
Hopefully, Martin isn’t locked in to a prisoner’s dilemma in that trap loving mind of his. His management of the 4th line in game 2 limits any downside using a Metro and Bros. 4th line tonight. Montreal does not have the personal to employ a checking/gridding style 4th line, then the best option is to maximize the offensive ability of the 4th line in hopes of creating a match-up advantage over Pitt’s bottom two lines. And frankly, this is a last ditch effort to get the brothers going. I do not think it is unreasonable that they can be “coached up” by someone like Muller today, then give the team 10 good minutes tonight. If after a few shifts it isn’t working then bench the line.
All coaches know it and they all use it. You rarely see someone take a timeout at 14:05, or 6:05. It is totally regulated and has been for years. It existed long before the icing rule – they used to use the TV timeouts to get a break as they knew exactly when it was going to happen. That is why they brought in that icing rule.
Really hoping we can eke out another victory before Spacek returns. If we do, this series is ours!

I agree about Mara but we’ll see if he comes back next year.
Even on the front end we’re lacking. How many times have we witnessed the puck on the opposing team get a push or a slash instead of the body check? Nothing to impede them means they gain our zone that much faster and teams aren’t afraid of our guys….
Give me a Chris Neil. I love his style of play, well most of the time anyways. Isn’t this what Laps is supposed to be like, minus the fighting?
I thought P.K. did a pretty good number on Sid. And he’s not afraid to do it.
Bring the Cup home Boys! I Will Always Believe
A man walks into a bar and asks for an Ovechkin. “What’s that?” asks the bartender. “A White Russian, no ice, no cup.”
Patrick Roy’s take on both goalies…seems like he is taking the road of most resistance…
“I am guilty of using elipses…”
hahaha, i meant good, but goose will do the trick too. hahaha
He needs to mention “tank” for you take the bait.
what’s up with Guerin?? anyone know??
He has a mild case of being a senior citizen.
According to Matt Cooke, “Guerin was walking down the hallway in the depths of the Bell Centre and P.K. came out of the dressing room. It was skate-to-skate. Just an accident, I’m sure. These things happen. I’m just saying…”
He cracked a rib laughing at Matt Cooke’s crackpot comments re: PK.
He’s too old.
i hope they’ve got the roof bolted on nice and tight because it’s gonna be NUTS at the Bell Centre tonight!
Ouch, but funny.
hahaha… i think it might be a lower body injury. if that helps.
Markov is never around when you need him most.
It sucks, it really sucks.
If he can’t stay healthy he’s not much use when it counts.
And it’s alot of money to pay as well.
And yes I would keep him in the hope his injuries are over but it’s alot of wear and tear on a body.
Damn Markov and his non cut-proof tendons and vulnerable knee ligaments!!!
Serge Savard shattered his left leg in 5 places in 1970, needed 3 surgeries and then the next season, he broke that leg again. It was worse and took a year in the half restore to his leg strength after that to the point where he could play in the NHL again. He perservered, the team management stuck with him and he became a part of one of the most legendary teams in NHL History. He still played for the 72 Summit Series and nine further NHL seasons before he retired and on that bad leg, he had five Stanley Cup wins to his credit.
Not saying Markov is Savard, but the great blueliners (And Markov is the best we’ve had since Chelios left) find a way to stay in the game and contribute. If he can recover, he’ll give us all he has and we wouldn’t have made the playoffs without him either.
i think its been more bad luck than anything else. These things happen
This is the first time he’s had any real injury problems. He’ll have the off-season to rehab, and he’ll hopefully in fine form for next season.
Ok — we just won without Markov last game we CAN continue to do it —
Jaro plays great, Gill & Josh frustrate Sid and Gino, Habs capitalize on thier chances we can DO THIS !!!
GO HABS GO !!!
I know, I am venting, we haven’t had the benefit of him in the lineup consistantly for a while.
Ah, maybe next year.
We can only hope
Habs have to send the Pens reeling on home ice, they have the 7th man tonight with a racous Bell Centre crowd that hopefully have the rally towels and aren’t getting the finger literally and figuratively thrown at them by penny-pincher Boivin.
Feed off the crowd and burn the Penguins on home ice, they have not tasted defeat on away ice yet, it’s time to shock them. Old man Guerin being out is nice, but the real key is to beat up on Fleury, he’s been average in the playoffs and their D is not what it was last year. Habs are trapping the Penguins and they HATE it. NJ trapped them for a season sweep this year, it really frustrates them and stymies their playing style.
A few extra goals just to drive the point home would be nice.
Anyone else find it “SUSPICIOUS” that so many people Matt Cooke comes into contact with get Hurt, Markov, Savard, Cole, Lecavalier, Lombardi, Sundin, Anisimov, IMO Yes. There are more. This guy is a POS and its not a coincidence. I would never want this guy on any team I root for.
“It’s not an obsession, It’s a way of life..”
Well, they are saying that PK Subban almost cut another guy too. So now he is “suspicious” too. They just can’t deal with the fact that they got beat by a bunch of smurfs. Go Smurf-Habs Go!
Cooke is a gutless POS. That is a given. He has a history, that’s for sure.
But there was nothing dirty about the hit on Markov. It was not late, it was not from behind. Anybody would have finished that check, especially in the playoffs.
The injury was just bad luck.
Didn’t know that about Savard. Good story. It’s still a crushing blow losing Markov for this run. Hopefully Spacek is back for game 4 to help pick up the slack and relegate MAB to the 4th line.
Sit Darche and put in SK, at least having his brother around may jumpstart AK.
AK did get a hat trick this playoffs, so he hasn’t been completely absent.
In PK We Trust
You can’t really compare the two. Cooke DOES have a lengthy history of injuring other players. Subban has only played a handful of games in the NHL. Plus, Cooke was the one who called him suspicious and made the allegation, probably in an attempt to justify the Markov injury.
On another note, if Markov’s injury is career-threatening, then I think it’s time to upgrade the F. to a full blown F**K!
Don’t get me wrong, I love PK. But percentage-wise, your argument actually hurts you. 3 playoff games and 2 “incidents” is a much higher percentage than whatever Cooke has (which I hope is herpes).
Don’t you think that’s spurious logic? That’s like saying if a guy gets a shutout in his first NHL game, he’s going to get shutouts every game for the rest of his career.
The stats technically support that conclusion, however unlikely, yes? 😉
Sid was not only -2, but his turnover led to the Habs’ GWG.
Crowd should be amazing tonight.
If he was on the Habs, he’s be in the pressbox eating hotdogs tonight.
Cheer for the crest on the front of the jersey, not the name on the back.
Can they really be asking this question? The article is titled “Markov or Stall, Who’s Missed More” Gee I wonder, over rated third line centre, or one of the best defenceman in the world, that’s a doozy of a question.
Stall is not considered over rated by any knowledgeable fan. He is a third line centre because the two ahead of him are Malkin and Crosby, two of the best players in the world.
Stall would be a first line centre on the Habs and most other teams in the league.
Markov is a very good player. One of the best in the world? I think Hab fans tend to over rate their players.
You can win cool Hockey Canada stuff just by visting Dennis Kane’s blog.
“Hey Richard, two minutes for looking so good!”
I sensed the Pens steal a win tonight, so prove me wrong.
Boone, place your fingers onto the keyboard and blast out the most horrible reverse jinx you can possibly imagine.
The weather news called out the forecast in Montreal a flurry of noise heading into downtown with a slight chance of beer rain.
Here’s to hope!
Gonna be at the game tonight, REDS section 113. Experiences will be shared at 11. 😀
I OFFICIALLY HATE YOU DUDE! LOL Have an awesome time….soooooo jealous.
So direct, Danno… I hope your jinx works.
I bet you’re going to the hospital right after ’cause you’ll get an ear infection.
You lucky dog! Lots of crazy fans are outside the Bell Centre already and the fun is already started. I’d get out there now. Have fun!
Get the Fleury taunt going early buddy.
No — he means it! This is the kind of drivel that we have had to endure all year from some of the miserable buggers here.
Thanks to Danno for, you know, RUBBING THEIR NEGATIVE AND (FRANKLY) IRRITATINGLY KNOW-IT-ALL NOSES IN IT!
Somewhere (OK, up in the GM booth….) Bob Gainey is smiling ruefully….
if i were the Habs, I would fire the puck low on net a lot for dump ins. Fleury’s rebound control in the play-offs has been terrible..
I’ll be in HOME, section couch, seat 3.
Enjoy the game! Be sure to ask Sid for a broken tantrum stick.
Rookie! I snagged seat 1.
His save percentage is below 90%… I’d say just put it on net.
Am I missing something, or is Boone trying to be clever with the ‘Home SWEAT Home’ and I’m just not getting it?
This is why I dislike SK:
Price have the right attitude. SK is a cancer in the club and needs to go ASAP. So happy he’s healthy scratch.
Canadien en 5!
Never go Full Retard
I really find the term ‘cancer’ for a hockey player being a bit overdramatic. If he is locker room poison, so be it but calling a player a cancer is really pushing it.
I really like how JM used SK all year long… As little as possible.
He obviously shows flash of talent every 10-15 games though… WOW!
I agree. I like to say “negative distraction” in the room. I picture a locker room “cancer” as a guy who pokes people with needles in their sleep, pees on their legs in the showers, and farts in a person’s face when he is sleeping.
I certainly hope SK is doing none of those things. I wouldn’t even say he is a negative distraction. He just has to find his game, but he never will if he’s a scratch. I really think that after this season, pick one and trade the other. Maybe they need to be aprt in order to mature and add positively to the team dynamic!
I’ll wave from 209
/\\ikeGO HABS GO!
would you try and sign backstrom to an offer sheet if talks with pleks don’t progress?? 7.8 over 8 years??
Washington would have a hard time finding the money to match that. All we would have to do is not sign pleks, trade hammer and a goalie and ak and/or sk.
pleks should be a priority, but what do you think??
I know this is off topic and that our minds are elsewhere, but i am already sweating, so I have to talk about something else!!
We are getting hit with a Thunderstorm with 70 mph winds. Gonna be very upset when the power goes out. Laptop battery lasts about 3 hours so as long as I can find a tower, I should be able to watch on line.
Price had two ways to react to this season: he could have said “Screw it, other teams will want me in the off season, this season is a write off,” or he could have gone in a positive direction, looking at this as a chance to prove he’s a team guy, work on his game in practice, put in the extra time, and wait for his oppurtunity. I like Carey Price. I like Jaroslav Halak. I think both have gotten better this season (Price’s stats are decent, other than his W-L record, and an improvement over last season). I hope we can hang on to both, because I think both are going to be superstar goalies. It would be a real shame to lose either just as they’re about to enter their prime.
As for Sergei… I’m not in the room, I don’t know what the dynamic is, and I don’t know what JM’s beef is with him. I thought he played some good games this year. If he’s back next year, you just have to hope he matures his game, shows up to play, practices hard, and finally proves he belongs as a top 6 forward. I can’t take this article as anything more than a snapshot of a 2 minute period in the dressing room. Maybe he was in a bad mood because he had a stomach ache or something trivial. Maybe he’s just a dick. We just don’t know.
His first line about how hard the Habs are working. Sweating.
Neither player came out looking very mature in my opinion.
It’s on TSN already
B.Burke is building the Bruins through the draft.
Of course TSN would have it, any chance to give their Loaf readers a chance to laugh at the Canadiens.
I imagine if Kessel was found with a dead body in his trunk, it would read ‘practical joke goes awry with the Leafs’.
BTW: Love your sig.
Finally someone who would praise one goalie without putting the other one down?
Cannot believe my eyes!
Welcome to the ‘I like Carey Price, I like Jaroslav Halak’ club!
WOW.. Good on Price, for calling him out.. Not sure what really to think, as I was an advocate for SK to play more. I think SK and JM don’t jive. You gotta leave him in the pressbox now, he seems not to give a poop!
Did that really happen? It’s not just hearsay?
The Leafs are a practical joke in general.
B. Burke is building the Bruins through the draft.
You mean the C.N. tower………………
Ask Boone’s Guru. What he doesn’t know, he makes up. I’m sure he could shed some light on it!!
… the refs for tonight’s game are Brad Watson and Kevin Pollack. This duo was highly criticised in thr 2nd game of the San Jose series. Pollack is pathetic.
check out question # 5. We are here because of Demers!!! hahahaha
Or, “Burke Signs Kessel Discovery to Long-Term Deal”.
Poor Price, I wouldn’t be surprised if he was shipped with the kost bros in a package deal after the season.. so much for a fresh start.
The dog has dibs on seats 1 and 2.
I hope everyone who bashes Martin for not dressing Sergei reads this.
Tough assignment tonite. Surprised that’s all the NHL has to bring to the party. On the positive side, the officiating can’t possibly get any worse than it was in game 1 & 2. Hope that statement doesn’t create any bad karma.
Hey we don’t allow yer kind round here.
… Brad Watson and Kevin Pollack’s previous game ….. Sharks flying to Detroit and a look back at the officiating in Game 2 victory over Red Wings …… http://blogs.mercurynews.com/sharks/2010/05/03/sharks-flying-to-detroit-and-a-look-back-at-the-officiating-in-game-2/ ……… Just a senior moment , Mr.Boone , better days ahead.
At least Carey sounds like he wants to be part of this team. Too bad Sergei doesn’t appear to be showing the same mustard.
hope u got batteries in your modem and wireless router!!!
I have the Verizon plug-in that acts is kind of a cell phone for the internet. Video is sometimes choppy though, so may be reduced to following on H-I/O. Power is still holding strong though, fingers crossed.
Gotta miss the first hour and a half so DVR it is with information black-out…hate doing that because I am so tempted to sneak a look at the score…
Bell Centre will be rocking tonight…shoutout to all you lucky HIOers going to the game!
GO HABS GO!
“Save us Turtleneck Man…We need you now more than ever!”
I am always worried when i DVR the game that it is blacked out on that channel, i always DVR it on a different channel just in case………
Could be worse. Chris Lee did last nights boston-philly game and I was very worried he would fly north to sabotage us tonight.
What a pity. I thought that kid was gonna be the bomb.
The noun, not the verb.
I think Halak’s stellar play and constant out-dueling of Price this year has forced Price to really mature. I like that he’s taking a leadership role and holding others accountable. That said I’m really disappointed in the attitude Sergei has taken. I don’t entirely blame him for not caring as much, because he has been treated like garbage, but many players would have used that as motivation instead of just giving up, like Latendresse.
Sergei, grow up dammit.
Worst thing is what can we get for a shadow hockey player and a basket case baby with euro-mullets?
I’m more impressed with Price than unimpressed with Sergei.
Price could sulk too, he has plenty to be upset about, but here he is working his butt off, knowing full well, the only game time he’ll get is to mop up a bad one for Halak.
Good for you, Carey. You are a true professional.
As for you, Sergei, bye-bye…
I’m sure you thought Markov was being a leader when he allegedly called out Price though right. Again pot meet kettle.
I agree. He is not looking sharp. Remember that lob he bobbled?
I don’t know why the lob isn’t more of a set play. When the ice is
bad, you never know exactly how the puck is going to bounce. at
the very least, it handcuffs the goalie for a split second.
So, yeah, just hit the net…
Patrick Roy on OTR again today.
Seriously, what the heck is wrong with this kid? So much talent wasted on so much attitude. A real shame.
Disappointing isn’t it?
Oh well, can’t win it all, considering we drafted Sergei in the 7th round from drafting terms it was a no-risk pickup. Maybe he’ll turn it around once he gets booted to another team, maybe not.
Wow Andrew, I just don’t agree with either supposition. Price will have to go a long way to prove his maturity and this single, unconfirmed incident doesn’t quite herald maturity yet. Need some additional concrete examples. As for SK, you touch briefly on what he should be doing (using it as motivation) but treated like garbage? Come on. The guy makes over $560K a year (or something close) and could stand to prove his worth at some point, not act like a spoiled brat. That’s a half million worth of garbage your talking there.
Operative word being “kid”. Maturity doesn’t appear like magic at 18. Some take time to develop.
I’ll be under the couch watching through my fingers.
Anyone else find it ridiculous that Boston is getting all this hype while playing inferior teams? The two best teams in the East are playing against each other tonight, no question whatsoever.
I agree, but its one thing to be immature, another to have such a horrible attitude.
Is Punkster defending a Kostitsyn? I think my brain just melted and oozed out my ears!
Hmm now why am i not surprised about Sergei…
My issue with the whole thing is that it seems every time sergei makes a mistake he is subsequently benched or put in the press box. I also find it odd that he is only 1 of 2 forwards who isn’t a minus player, the other being moen but is labelled as lazy or doesn’t care. Maybe this is the source of his frustration,he makes less mistakes but seems to pay for it when he does while others don’t. I mean, darche is a -4 in 5 minutes of icetime but is playing tonight. Perhaps JM is still carrying a grudge from training camp?
No see what pisses me off is knowing if the habs won this series somehow they’d find some way to lose to the Bruins or Flyers…..despite having just knocked off the two best teams in the east. I wish I could understand WHY this occurs with the habs. Lose to Toronto, yet eliminate Washington. ARG
We’re 5-1-0 with the Ruins this year and the Flyers will leave that team a bloody mess even if they win in the series, if we beat the Penguins we can take the Bruins on. I am confident in that.
Gotta disagree with you there. I don’t think there’s a chance in hell of losing to Boston or Phili if we beat the Penguins. This team has too much character to go down to an inferior opponent. If we beat the Pens, we’re in the Cup finals.
Not really defending. Maturity takes time with some and SK seems to be one of those.
“Fisher told Bettman, ‘I never saw Clarence Campbell eat a hot dog.'”
Where to start with that one?….Joke overload!!!
Ya! The Habs Rule! now on Twitter!
Markov is a leader by way of his long tenure and the way he has carried himself on and off the ice. He called out Price because he felt someone had to set him straight after his display in the St. Louis loss.
Price has not earned a leadership role on this team, if anything SK is his contemporary not his junior. It is not his place to call out anyone.
Again you choose to single out my comments and in the process prove yourself factually incorrect. Third time lucky?
P.K. Subban and Jaroslav Halak share the same birhtday. May 13th
CJAD’s Murray Wilson on the Habs (from Hockey Central). You have to go to about the 2/3 mark to get to it, no Fan On Demand segment.
Wilson is really big on Subban.
Come on Pleky, big game from you tonight. Oh yeah, and you too, Jaro.
Another way Pyatt is the unKostitsyn: Andrei can score goals.
Ok, Dave, forgive me for being a tad rude, but your entire premise here is complete BS. Every player in this league is paid a minimum of 500K a year, so what a player makes has nothing to do with it. What I’m talking about, is that in training camp, after major surgery and out of shape, Sergei Kostitsyn outplayed Latendresse, Pacioretty, Lapierre and a host of others. Despite this he was sent to the minors, at a time where cuts were supposed to be over. This was a deliberate attempt to embarrass a proud player.
After this Sergei was finally called up after Boucher gave him glowing reviews in Hamilton for his play. In Montreal he instantly became one of the better defensive players on the team, getting onto the 1st PK unit with Gomez while Gionta was injured a couple games after his call up. Down the stretch he was one of the most offensively productive players from February to the end of March, and also one of the best defensive players. Despite all this, he gets punished disproportionally for mistakes compared to other players. Gionta was directly at fault on FOUR goals in Game 1 against Pittsburgh, but he didn’t get benched, because that would be stupid. Benching a player for a single mistake, is not a productive way to deal with an NHL asset. Martin has mismanaged Sergei from the day he was hired.
No backsies, you like SK now!
Woohoo1 Guerin out! according to RDS
Every 20 games?
Great post and i agree.
Fasten your seatbelts. It’s going to be a wild ride!
1 game at a time. Don’t look past tonight.
Just have to offer my two cents on Sergei. This guy is poison. His team’s having a helluva playoff run, and he’s moping around the rink, bringing the rest of the team down. This guy is the definition of selfish. Does he have no idea that everything he’s doing is decreasing his chances of ever playing in this league. I think Gauthier should “Georges Laracque” him.
And let me hurl back your BS statement. Why? First, you’re ignoring the reason for SK’s demotion. He acted immature and not following the coaches orders. Second, a single media report of Boucher’s SK comment does not stand as glowing reviews. He served his sentence, didn’t cause any grief and was sent back up. Third, Martin didn’t mismanage him. SK has been doing that quite well all by himself.
Oh sure. Gang up on poor old punkster. Go ahead. 😉
AK has a hat trick, quick name the others in the playoffs who have done it. No it is NOT Tom Pyatt or Matthew Darche.
CHEERS my HIO brothaz and sistaz ;)!!
Pyatt has 2 goals in 49 career NHL games, regular season and playoffs. Providing he doesn’t score tonight—and I’m not holding my breath—that’s a 1-every-25-games pace. Even if Andrei was as bad as 1/20 he’d still be better than that. I’m not saying I dislike the guy; Mike’s right about his hustle and his determination. But gawd I wish he had Andrei’s hands instead of his own.
He missed a bus, and a good players coach would have addressed that with Sergei personally instead of calling him out in the media and sending him down to the minors without warning.
As for Boucher, he was quoted several times as saying Sergei was no problem in Hamilton. He was used in all situations and played well for him.
The question is, would Sergei have been such a distraction this year if Martin had taken him aside and told him that he needed to be more committed from the start, and played him in Montreal instead of playing the even more disinterested Latendresse?
Did you get my reply email from last weekend?
As long as the team doesn’t listen to me we’ll be fine!
I feel like this “haha” translates into “I’m going to give Andrew a punch in the face at QS 5.0″.
The fuzzy logic here is self-fulfilling. If Price can not be given credit for taking on a leadership role (however briefly), then he will never acquire any at all, let alone enough credit to be considered a leader in the future. This is the problem with priveleging the source instead of the act.
The backup goalie counts on the scratches to stick around to provide him with shooters. Price is immature for calling a player to account when he shirks responsibility in a manner that is both detrimental to team morale, and could impact Price’s readiness should he be called upon?
A hat trick in a losing cause. Unmemorable and insignificant. AK is done on this team. Hopefully the Habs can get a bag of pucks and few hockey sticks for him. Worst waste of a #10 pick especially given the talent available that year. I’d love to eat my words and see him score a significant goal but I’ll leave that up to Cammalleri or Gionta who will work for it whereas AK is defensive liability every time he steps foot on the ice.
Xtrahabsfan, you were right about those two useless POS.
I’ll take Pyatt’s hustle over AK’s fog any day.
Andrew you’re making assumptions, not stating a fact. First, show me any evidence that JM or any of the coaching staff did not take SK aside. Second, there’s a big difference between glowing reports and saying Sergei was no problem. To answer your final question, no SK has not shown that anything would make him more committed yet. Maybe next season when he grows up a bit.
And to finish off with a zinger…maybe SK is farther along on the maturity scale than another player who fires a puck at opposing team celebrations and slashes opposing players at the bench?
A.Kostitsyn has 76 goals in 270 NHL games. That’s a goal every 3.55 games.
No he wouldn’t, he doesn’t have the vision for the pass that Gomez and Plekanec have and while he scores goals, he doesn’t have a better scoring touch than Pleks either, ahead of Gomez yes but his only flitration close to 30 goals was his 29 in his first season when he played next to Evgeni Malkin. He has size and speed, but he doesn’t a true playmaker’s vision nor the finish of a top goal scorer.
Markov is considered by NHL analysts to be one of the best NHL rearguards around, a top 10, if not when fully healthy, a Top 5 NHL defencemen by others.
Ya like calling our goaltender elite and top 5 in the world. Pot meet kettle.
in an offensive role, I could see hiim being more useful on the wing. Liek you said, he doesn’t really have great vision to find players with a pass, but he can go to the dirty areas and is hard to move out front. Possibly 1st line winger, but not center. would you trade a healthy markov stright up for staal?? enough said!!!
If you want to put words in my mouth at least make sure they are accurate. Please post exactly where I said that.
Unlike most on HIO I don’t declare someone an elite player after one game, one season or one series.
I said his performance against the Caps in the last three games was all world.
Well, this season i have heard 3-4 hockey analysts mention Markov, had he not been injured, as a top 3 Norris Candidate. Last year many said the same thing, that he should have been a candidate, including M. Schneider and S.I.’s M. Farber.
In 2007 he was named the best defensman in the IIHF World Championship. A top defencemen with the Russina Senior team for 6 years straight.
AND he has been mentioned as the MOST undervalued player in the NHL by many.
Lastly, he has made more than a few top rated defensemen lists in the last 3-4 years. And NHL all star in 2008 and 2009.
I’m gonna go with ONE OF THE BEST IN THE WORLD.
Canada’s Olympic 2010 defensemen:
Dan Boyle, San Jose Sharks
Scott Niedermayer, Anaheim Ducks
Chris Pronger, Philadelphia Flyers
Drew Doughty, Los Angeles Kings
Duncan Keith, Chicago Blackhawks
Brent Seabrook, Chicago Blackhawks
Shea Weber, Nashville Predators
Would Markov have made the team? Possibly over Weber. Just saying Markov would not be a shoo in for Team Canada.
I would take Markov over any of them except Doughty and Keith and that’s because of age. Grandpa’s Boyle and Niedermeyer, really, I mean seriously. Do you still live in 2006 or something. Pronger is overrated overpayed version of Gill, he’s like a “dirty Gill”. Weber and Seabrook aren’t even in the conversation, same as Green, they will be, but not yet.
He would’ve made it in over Seabrook, whose career really got a huge boost by playing next to Duncan Keith, much like Souray and Komiasrek got huge boosts to their careers by playing with Markov.
Oh I’m sorry, I always get you, harhabits and xtrahabsfan confused. I mean you all wanted to tank, you all hate Gainey, Martin, Price, our smurf forwards and our old, slow defenseman and you all have your heads so far up Jaro’s a** you can’t remember the last time you’ve seen the sun. So again my apologies for the cofusion, I hope you can see why.
I would have taken him over a lot of those guys, except Keith, Doughty, and Weber. Neidermayer didn’t look that great, Pronger looked awful even on the smaller ice. Fact is he didn’t bring it and couldn’t keep up with the speed of the game against skilled players. He actaully reminded me of how Brian McCabe looks playing in the NHL since they took out the clutching and grabbing. Seabrook is a decent player but not as good as Markov and Boyle is a toss-up.
And the Russian team was supposed to be as strong as Canada’s and he is a TOP defenseman there. They picked him to play 62 games so far, and Tretiak called him one of the 3 most important players on the team.
I think we can safely say that Markov would be on Canada’a Olympic team, if he was Canadian.
i fully support the tasering of fans of any philadelphia-based
Habs hockey = Smart hockey we work as a team, and we win as a team. we play 5 man defence – not just 2. we play with energy, we play with Subban in Markov’s place (for now) – Pk could have been with us since the Olympics, but nevermind that
Francois Gagnon – “a la une” – reported this morning on AM 990 that certain Habs have told him Sergei just does not care about the team and that explains him being in the dog house.
Sergei is done like dinner
When Sergei sits, Andre sulks.
Andrei is also done, put a fork in him.
Might be worth a try to trade Little K for a late rounder, and try Big K for the last year of his contract, without the distraction of the wee moper.
I think the pens get an ass-kicking tonight.
Hockey’s awesome and all but….
563,000 km … and counting? that’s what I’m talking about. Good work.
A pocket “Pocket Rocket”
What’s that place where you keep the change?
Lets go boys, No pasengers, This means you AK. It takes the team to win.
I can’t believe that ESPN is America’s #1 sportscasters…
THEY DON’T EVEN KNOW HOW TO CUT TO COMMERCIAL PROPERLY!
So Guerin is out eh? What happened? Glad he’s out mind you.
Broken wheel on his walker.
Wow, amazing light show on the ice to start.
Yeah at least CBC covered it. TSN totally missed it!
i absolutely loved that
The fire is amazing.
Shout out, Yay Charissa is back. I efin love hockey
Come on boys. Let’s git er done!! GO HABS GO!!!
Jeez, I can hear the Bell from Verdun lol
Goalies in Montreal have two roles, netminder and scapegoat.
The Penguins are going to crash the net big time tonight.
Don Cherry says the Penguins “have to make life miserable for Hajlak.” The man is impossible.
Man, I can barely Rick and Murray. UNBELIEVABLY LOUD! Love it!
back in america, stuck with versus. sigh. they broadcast the game until the puck starts. WTF. i want light shows and player intros and anthems to get pumped. (so i’m watching on justin.tv lol)
all about the 1st 5-10 min. let’s pot one or two !! man i’m pumped .
Oh c’mon Peter. We all know it’s pronounced HAVLAT! 😉
as the CBC volume goes down, and CJAD’s goes
Lapierre is finally starting to hit guys in behind the net. Well done!
LOVE the physical play!!!!!
4th line is WAY better with Metro than Maxwell.
Alright! PP time.
Did you see his mean look? haha
I think the wake up call was when he was publically humiliated when being called for diving twice,he’s been alot better since.
Tom Pyatt is the man. What speed. My be we could trade the Kostitsyn’s to the Coyotes for Taylor Pyatt.
What a PP!!! PK PK!! showing off lol.
That probably had something to do with it.
OH man, worst line from CJAD’s Wilson “Cammalleri hits the
net there and that one is in”___________________________________________
What a great PP! Can’t believe they didn’t cash…
Subban is just brilliant, wow.
Can’t believe the Canadiens didn’t cash in, but they’ll have more chances. They are feeding off this crowd.
The passing plays are magnificent thus far!
Both are feeding off each other! It’s insane!
Great period so far….hope it ends the same!
Cindy hurtin is he? Poor biby!
Dumb lappy. REAL!
God Damnit Lappy!
Ryan O’Byrne’s playoff beard enhances his play.
Did Bob Cole just say “Jonas Plekanec”?
Pretty sure I had Pyatt called Hackett earlier.
He grows a really good beard.
Kaptain Kirk getting a lot of credit for this playoff performance so far. Wonder if he will get Head Coach offers next for next season??
Pyatt is on FIRE!
No one else is saying, so I’ll say it. AK46 looks great tonight.
He’s made at least three good checks and a couple of nifty passes.
He’s definitely playing much better so far
Man if Pyatt only had the hands, great work
Habs are dominating. Why does that worry me?
Because first goal will be huge in this game…that’s why! My palms are sweaty…and I’m not even surfing porn!
“Music is the best.” – Frank Zappa
Can we get a hands transplant for Pyatt? Love the guy but geeeese.
Cammer…that would have been awesome man!
AK46, Metro and Pyatt have great energy! Cindy Crosby should call the WAAAAH-mbulance!!!
GO HABS GO!!!
Is Beliveau the only hall of famer thats at these games?
Cammy takes a shot from Cindy. No call of course.
Ha ha, Cindy bangs Cammilleri after the whistle. That’s bush!
For the record, is the Subbanorama the official H I/O term?
Atta boy Lappy!
Say what you want about Lapierre… but he is the rattling the bloody hell out of Pittsburgh. He is performing his job to a tee.
GREAT STUFF!! Keep it going boys….u got them rattled!
Letang is Pittsburgh’s Mike Green.
He is awful in his own end.
Habs dominated completely and it’s still knotted 0-0. Wow. Fleury has taken his game up a notch.
I am loving the Subbanian spinnaramas!
Keep on playing like that and you will win.
Now that was a crossbar!
WHAT A F-ING PERIOD! WOW!
Are the Habs ever comming together!
Amazing period… it’s weird, I’m almost used to scoring on every chance we get!
DONT LET UP!!!!!!!!
SUBBAN PYAT LAPIERRE!
All players are doing their part!
This is beautiful but I hope we can keep it up a bit longer. If they get the first goal all the air’s gonna go right out of the building.
I’m nervous about the amount of shots. I think Fleury may have learned Halak’s secret.
Great, great period, lots of energy, electric atmosphere in the building. Should have scored two at least.
That was one of our best periods of the year. I think the Pens are stunned. They thought this was going to be a cake walk
That may have been the best period this team played all year!
You’ll never hear this from CBC but the pens are lucky this isn’t 3-0.
I know Crosby’s a great player, but he is the biggest bitch. Does he ever stop whining. Great first Period, Laps playing like a man possesed. Great job all around
Lots of cheap shots from the Pens. We gotta stay disciplined and keep them frustrated. Great first period. We have to score a few though. We are close, but it only counts when it goes in. VERY HAPPY with this period. GO HABS GO
They are Gellin’!!
Anyone know how many shots we and Pitts at??
— YES HABS CAN!! —
With or without SK.
the best way to retaliate cammy is to put it in the net! that was so lame by sid…
I am thinking the same thing……
Shea Weber went to the 2nd round of the 2003 draft and Duncan Keith was a 2nd-round pick in his draft year.
7 – 3 in favour of Montreal.
just follow the box score at nhl.com
Hello Pierre McGuire. We all know about the 2003 draft… stop rubbing salt in th wound
7 shots on net, and 11 shots blocked by them. hey have 3 shots and we blocked 3 of their shots.
Darche didn’t take a shift…. And AK was excellent!
He was good for sure. Love to see him get a couple of points tonight.
That’s what blows my mind, what’s the point of dressing him? At least dress SK,the guy can at least kill penalties. What happens if any of cammy, gio,ak or benny gets injured during the game? Who can we move up to play a top 6 to 9 role? Darche? No chance
I think him playing with Tom Pyatt is a good decision, they look good together.
Metro’s a good guy for a young player to feed off of as well.
The Pens are not ready for this game, take it to em Boys!
They Call Me Shane
man i hate to say it but i think the habs should allow pens to get bit more shots on net so halak can get the groove on, hes been great so far, but more shots he gets the better hegets
.::moen for captain::.
So, Don Sherrie has never heard of a skate cutting through a skate boot and severing a tendon? Never ever?
Anyone else scared that this game has been alot like game 3 against WAS. We dominated the first period in that game aswell, then got whooped in the 2nd and 3rd periods.
Yeah, I’ve noticed that too. Let’s hope this isn’t a rerun.
Not at all, this team is completely different.
It’s a shame Markov the MVP is out, but we have PK “Baby Markov” Subban! The guy is pure brilliant!
And they have Guerin and Staal out, need a W boys! Keep the pedal to the metal!
I actually don’t mind Carcillo, lol.
I guess Lapierre is Carcillo Lite
I don’t mind carcillo, the player who fights and scores 10-12 goals. I could do without the diving though. Don’t know if you saw the huge embelishment on begin yesterday. That kind of play even wears thin on your own team mates eventually, never mind the rest of the league and officials.
Habs hockey = Smart hockey
we work as a team, and we win as a team.
we play 5 man defence – not just 2. we play with energy,
we play with Subban in Markov’s place (for now) – Pk could have been with us since the Olympics, but nevermind that.
excellent period by Les Glorieux
play that way and we can beat any team in the league.
this is becoming a terrific hockey team.
Hey Ed, just a comment. Your sig is getting longer and it’s at the beginning of your post. It doesn’t actually look like you have any content. It’s not easy to parse where the content is. The point of a sig being after (and well demarcated) is so that you can get your message across but it’s easy to skip for pele who have read it before.
You’ll have to speak up – I’m wearing a towel.
The replays show that Cammy hit the post too.
Terrific period by the Habs. Great puck control on our first PP. Laps came close towards the end of the period and hit the crossbar. If we keep up the pressure in the 2nd, we will cash in. Absolutely love Subban’s energy. GO HABS!!!!!!
We keep blowing our quality scoring chances, I wouldn’t say Fleury is doing that great yet.
Can’t imigine anyone who has shook hands with LC would want to shake hands with Bettman
Looking forward to more Subbanian spinaramas!
Turn the volume down on CBC, and volume up on CJAD )))
Wouldn’t the correct term be “Subban Spinoramas”? His name already ends with an “an”, so I don’t think the “ian” is needed.
we have to be way more opportunistic!!!! keep it up guys!!!
“WHAT A SUBBANORAMA!”
Any idea where I can see what the opening sequence was like (kid with the flame, etc) ? I didn’t see it on Versus.
Heart attack! Thank you, Jaro!!!!
Great save!!! That’s what we needed, Halak.
Great Wall of Halak! take that Cookie goon!
Halak sharp despite lull in action in his crease, nice.
And no call on Cooke resulting in a breakaway from the blueline. Seems fair.
Never mind ‘AFLAC’ the best insurance seems to be HALAK
JG for captain!
No. You have to add the ian. It’s a Galllivanism:
The ultimate Gallivanism was a word he coined: the “spinarama,” which
described a player evading a check or when a player would deke a
defender with a sudden 180- or 360-degree turn. Its chief practitioner
was Serge Savard, so the move was also known as “The Savardian
AK46 drills letang. Twice. So sweet.
AK’s best shift.
Kostitsyn’s hitting… that’s a darn good sign.
AK46 great shift! That’s how you have to play in the playoffs.
Cooke you little biatch.
I just don’t understand AK46 and I don’t think I ever will. Not complaining. He is doing awesome tonight. Night and day.
Atta boy Laps!
Two elbows to the head by MAB. Knowing your bleeding heart attitude, if that were a Pen on a Hab, you’d be crying for a suspension.
Him or the Big Gill Wall!
I’m nervous…PIT fortunate not to be behind and can make us pay fast
Phew….what a kill but…???
First big mistake by PK. He had time to get it out properly.
UM were Habs fans. Thats the way it works. We dish it out, and expect penalties just because WERE THE HABS. WE DESERVE IT.
Screw off. Go troll somewhere else.
I forgive him.
As did I. shortly after it happened.
Pot meet kettle.
F*ck Cooke. An elbow to the head is too good for that puke.
I hope so AB, I really hope so. I think if we can get the first goal we’ll win, but I’m really not sure we will if they do. Anyway enough negativity, GO HABS GO!!!!!!!
I just think that like him or hate him he plays his role to a “T”. Just saying.
Amazing game, but we really need a lead here soon! Halak is just razor sharp, unreal that he maintained that focus after such a boring 1st period.
I love it how Subban clears the zone by flicking the puck up in the air instead of making a risky, clear the zone pass up the middle.
Habs need to get back control of this game before it’s too late.
Time to turn it around some boys, start lobbing on Fleury again.
Montreal playing the trap. Too funny.
Holy F Jaro!!
Wow. This may be a long one folks. I can feel it.
somehow feels like OT already…
I trust Jaro but PIT busting the system. C’mon guys!
Don’t want to be a black cloud, but I think Subban is playing hurt.
Well. No wonder the Pens can’t score. The Habs have got a lock in nets.
The difference between Subban and some of our other defencemen is that he doesn’t give the puck up easily and clear the zone for nothing.
Different rules for the little kid
What a bullshit call.
ONLY because it’s Crosby.
what the hell was that??????????????????? :O :O :O
What a BS call. Apparently you can’t even hit Crosby anymore.
Are these refs kidding? Gill gets a penalty for CHECKING Crosby after Cammalleri gets tripped in the Pens zone. Horse S***!!!!!
what a horrible call. Sid held Gill’s stick earlier
That is bogus! This league is corrupt!
Why didn’t Gill just check Crosby behind the net?
FFS seriously? Gill held him on 2-3 seperate times that shift. Were they all legal?
Being a Habs fan is one thing, but making shit up is something else all together.
i can’t believe how often Crosby looks at the Refs…
Wow, crybaby gets his call.
Where were the refs when he snapped his stick on our net or cross checked Cammalleri?
Sid te Little Kid needs an unsportsmanlike
Awwwwww Cindy doesn’t like to fight?
If Crosby was Lapierre on that play, that would’ve been called a dive 100%.
Crosby flopping like a fish.
Crosby nice diving. Idiot.
I’m losing alot of respect for Cindy tonight! IT’S WAR NOW!!!
if Lapierre can get 2 for Diving (twice!).. why can’t Sid get to for Whining?
CRY MOAR CROSBY! Good job at the end scrum boys, show the Pens they can GTFO!
Abso efin lutely.
Best player in the world my A@@
What a little, filthy b!tch!
Man – we’re barely hanging on. Hopefully somebody will break out and give us a lead.
Where do people get off holding that little puke Crosby up as a role model. I have never seen a poorer sport, a bigger whining sense of entitlement in hockey history.
Some things just need to stay in the bedroom
Have you already forgotten of Ovechkin?
There’s your poorer sport.
There is a lot going on out there, Crosby’s a whiny bitch, the only one embelishing everything. Refs should keep letting them play. Much worse than that not called
I disagree. Ovie is emotional, he went all out to win, but he took it like a man. I didn’t see his lips flapping after every whistle and he made no excuses when they lost.
Ovechkin aside from the snow shower, wasn’t a complete A-hole on the ice for 2 straight games.
Bruce Boudreau however, is the biggest whiney bitch in sports.
Lmao 100% agreed.
Your flight got cancelled.
Im glad RDS isnt the doc on the bench.
Is Darche supposed to be our 12th forward? I’ve seen him maybe once? Having to roll four lines on the fly with only eleven forwards limits our chances on the rush.
It’s time to stack one line, put Cammi with Gomez and Gionta.
I love the heart of this team.
I think Cammi and Gomez are injured.
I was just going to say the same thing!
Does Cooke ever stop crying?
Offence is REALLY weak. What the hell is going on?
Need some good shifts from the 3rd and 4th lines. Top two are getting tired.
keep pushing..it’ll come!
Anyone notice the play where Subban got hurt?
Why is there a random guy in a Cessna claiming that Subban is injured?
Kinda void of intelligence…
Bettman and the worst officiating pair in the NHL playoffs are in the house, I don’t go for conspiracies but they’re making it too easy.
We seem to need to score early. All season long when we have a good first period, lots of chances but fail to cash one, a shutout is inevitable. We have to break that. Get a goal here.
What was so funny, lol?
learn to laugh at yourself.. it’s good for the soul.
What a play by Gio, and great save.
Nice seeing Kostitsyn get physical but it still annoys me that he’s always hugging the perimeter. He may just end up becoming a Sergei Samsonov.
How is that? Comedy is brilliant.
wow,i’m surprised they actually called something, finally.
Here we go now!
About F’n time!!
Habs HAVE to score here
wow. if they hadn’t have called that, they would have had to leave the building in an armored car.
Okay. Time for us to score a garbage goal. A nice greasy one.
Idiotic decrepit Boob Cole – “the crowd called the penalty.” He loathes the Habs.
You know what’s really ticked me off about MAB tonight? He hasn’t been terrible but he has been off-target on a half dozen simple passes to OB in our zone with absolutely no pressure on him.
Lol, good job refs… It only took about 5-6 missed calls to get one right.
I guess it started to get too obvious.
Grrr…..sucks to lose a close game. C’mon guys, pop one in here!
Tell me about it. Cindy starts crying and the whistle starts blowing. Amazing.
RDS claimed it as well.
More like lack of bottom six scoring I think.
Probably the best-played game by the Habs that ended in a loss. Pittsburgh was lucky to escape the first period without being behind 2 or 3-0. Fleury was good and lucky. I think this is going to be a long tough series. We can win it.
Habs home record in the playoffs is embarrassing.
Instant replay, frustrated in the first, passive in the second and half the third then finally a surge late for nought.
We’ve seen this before many times.
The gang that could shoot straight came back.
Goalposts missed and open nets!
“The three stars as selected by Red Fisher of the Montreal Star:
1st star: Henri Richard
2nd Star: Doug Harvey
3rd Star: Jacques Plante
Final score Detroit Red Wings 5 Montreal Canadiens 3″
Lack of top six scoring. Nothing we can do about it now but we would the cup if we had it this year.
Pleks, Benny, and in the 3rd, AK46 also…
These guys need to wake up.
AK46 played better this game but gave up the puck so many damned times and had horrible body position in the 3rd.
The passes were crap, the puck control even worse.
We reverted to our seasonal selves by shooting from impossible angles and not getting any traffic in front of the net.
I fear that those two extra games the h
Habs have played and the long rest the Pens got are beginning to show. I don’t think they sat back so much as they just ran out of gas.
F-OFF Pens and especially Cooke.
This is the 2nd best? The stanely cup champs? Haha! Played like an AHL team. I’m proud of our guys.
Kiss your f’n crossbar Fleury.
You wont be so lucky on Thursday.
Habs have put a lot of doubt in the minds of the Pens. They know this wont be a cakewalk.
HORRIBLE HORRIBLE HORRIBLE PUCK CONTROL!
Well we are done here. THIS SUCKS………… We needed to score in the 1st.
Fleury had to luck out one nite.
If the refs called 1/4 of the dives the Pens do, we’d be on the PP all game.
I knew that 1st period was going to bite us in the butt
Offence really packed it in tonight.
This game was lost when the team let the puck control get away from them in the 2nd period.
Tired of great 1st periods, than a good last 10 minutes.
One thing that has ticked me off this entire series….. We can`t complete any freaking passes.
ITS SO FRUSTRATING HOW OFTEN WE GET SHUT OUT AT HOME………….
Habs experience the same problem this game as they have all season. They did not play a full 60 tonight. Instead they rellied on halak when the score was 0-0 and expected that luck would continue to be on our side.
Me too. We’ll stick it to em thursday.
They didn’t quit and came close a few times in the third. Just wasn’t to be tonight. Our home record in the playoffs though. My God. I don’t understand that.
Crosby’s bullshit penalty on Gill is the difference, and not to mention to start of the third period where Georges, and Gill in the box, already without Markov, and Spacek. Leaving us Subban, Hammer, OB, and MAB to defend.
Pittsburgh sucks BIG TIME, they have 2 even strenght goals in 3 games.
This team is beatable, if only for the refs helpign out the CHUMPS!
GO HABS GO
I wish they would quit showing Mario and his scowling Ice Queen.
Better team won, we played a great first but sat back after that, like we usually do, but this time didn’t have the lead. Need better and more shots, Fleury had 3 tough saves to make today, all ended up being with the pad, I don’t recall him having to move his arms on any saves, and thats how we’ve scored in the past on him, up high. The 2 posts suck, because those were well aimed shots, just an inch off, but other then those most shots were pretty easy to stop. I think its fair to say most any NHL goalie good down low would have shut us out today, we made it too easy for him. Another game of the year Thursday, win or face 3-1 again and see if we can push our luck.
Oh please, Thats why there the Champs, F. That We didnt play our game, BS PP goal because Crosby is a whiny bitch.
The Penguins constant whining to the officials throughout the game was embarrasing. Same with Cooke, Crosby, Letang constantly diving and throwing their heads back like they’ve been shot like Carcillo. Unfortunately the Habs in the 2nd and 3rd weren’t much better and Gomez/Pleks had off games and when your centre’s don’t play their best it’s hard to win. Hopefully Martin can make the right adjustments again for the 4th game because not team has ever come back from 3-1 two series in a row.
Short bench is catching up with us more and more, JM can’t keep rolling with 2 1/2 lines, not against Pittsburgh.
Very nervous 2nd. Need to push back now and bury one. We are owed a couple of PP’s
And I’m quicker on the edit than you are on the reply. 😉
Bullsh*t call on Gill. Cindy was holding his stick and sold it to the ref.
If we end up on the short end of that skirmish, the conspiracy is definitely on.
Uhm maybe it’s just me but Gill deserved that penalty, I don’t know what makes you think everythign goes in the playoffs?
I don’t agree. Crosby was hanging on to his arm and should have gone himself.
Gill did it twice that shift prior to being called.
He was pressing his luck or out of gas from the extended shift.
Actually, the officiating has been pretty good tonight. My friend, who is a Red Wings fan was livid with this duo the other night in San Jose, but so far I think they’ve let the teams play for the most part.
So I understand Bettman’s in the house tonight. It’s getting late, I gotta get home so, ya wanna just take shots and go home? Yeah it’s cool and all the Europeans are doing it!
I really never knew how much Crosby whines. Versus makes it a point to not say anything and the camera moves away. However, when a Montreal player goes down the claims of a dive are mentioned right off.
Going to take a shut out to win tonight I think. No one deserves a playoff shutout more than Jaro. I hope we can hang in for one more and pop one when we get a break.
Dick Irvin compared Subban to Guy Lapointe!
After being asked who Subban’s skating reminded him of.
Good to see the refs allow Crosby to get away with murder on the ice.
I don’t understand why Crosby doesn’t get slashing penalties. Well I do understand why but it pisses me off. They should knock off the favortism.
It’s the same in all professional sports
For those who we’re wondering, these are the only calls from the end of period scrum :
On december 18th, in the middle of a 5 game losing streak, this guy said the habs would turn it around and make the playoffs.
great, both of our top PK dmen are now in the box.
Man, watching Dick Irvin Jr on CBC.. he’s still sharp as a tack.
If Pittsburgh can’t get in tight they won’t score, they’re not going to those gritty areas…I like it
I am convinced that Cindy is on a commissioned basis, he gets paid for every word he spews
I heard Pittsburgh is adopting the new stop signs they have in D.C.
Crosby is looking to the ref after every bit of contact. Bylsma is getting the ref’s ear, that can’t be good.
Time for Fleury to let in a softy.
Go Habs GO!
LOL that’s his NAME don’t censor that!!!!
Say what you want about Ovechkin, at least he didn’t act like an entitled spoiled brat on the ice like Crosby does. When things don’t go his way he automatically starts whining to the refs and his dive at the end of the second was ridiculous. This has been the complete opposite of maturity and class.
I am wondering how old Dick is.
obyrne looks tenative today….we need a flukey goal
I can’t believe it. I defend Crosby non stop and there he is being a whiney bitch. Unreal.
Dick Irvin Jr. doesn’t get any respect from this language filter.
His name is filtered if you don’t caps the D.
Got to get a big PK to set the tone for the 3rd.
so 75 and 26 are off for the pk to start the 3rd? f.
Glad to see the consistently inconsistent Andre Kostitsyn decided to get himself going, thought he played responsibly enough and with some grit. Look for him in the 3rd I say once the penalty mess gets cleared up.
for the love of Hashem, please get some goals #Habs
subby bails out hamr big time.
What bullshit. The refs should be proud.
Son of a B@tch!!
THIS ONE ISN’T OVER CINDY…
yup. f it was.
and the crybaby crosby who should have been off for either diving or slashing probably tipped that in.
Speaking of whiners.
GET PK OFF THE ICE, HE IS INJURED WHAT THE FUCK MARTIN.
Cmon Habs – 10 shots on goal ain’t going to do it!
I wonder if the Islanders owner’s name gets censored too?
you sir add absolutely nothing to this forum.
Consider for a moment that your insipid and puerile antics are the equivalent of internet schmegma. Obvious, troubling, but ultimately unimportant.
Funny, all you do is whine.
Sorry, did you say something in there? Put down the dictionary, you’ll get more girls that way.
C’mon boys! Lots of time but cant score from own zone.
That goal was all Hamrlik, how chances does he need to clear the zone?
This is unreal, does nobody see that PK is wincing every stride? Even RDS saw it…
This has easily been darche’s best game of the playoffs, lol
THAT WAS NOT OFFSIDE!!!! These refs are absolute retards!
WTF! He was onside!
That Number 24 should be up for a ^&%$ Oscar. How many acting jobs do the Chosen Ones get to do before they are penalized?
Geezus. that linesman must have amazing laser vision to have seen that one.
If we dont capitalize on this. We are in trouble. WE GOTTA TIE IS UP HERE.
COME ON GUYS. THIS IS OUR HOUSE.
Letang fakes a high stick.
Following their captain’s lead, I guess.
Do these guys practice with a soccer team in the off-season?
Interference!! Cammy never touched the puck.
First time Fleury’s been good in these playoffs.
Quebecois only play well against us in the Bell Centre, never for us anymore.
FLEURY IS HALAKING US…………..
Can’t buy one tonite
Time to crash the net boys. Nothing to lose.
Its all we need, a hot Fleury.
Get in front of the net boys.
Biggest faceoff of the series.
Boys are givin’ ‘er all they got. Remember, they were 8th seeded, and got to the second round the hard way. Given that both the first and second rounds should have been total mismatches, we have to feel good about what the team looks like now that it has finally gelled. No denying, there’s still work to do so that this team can consistently run with the big dogs.
Remember Markov and Spacek both out too
All these years I heard about Sid and his whining and a diver, and I
ALWAYS thought it was us crazy HABS fans being too nuts LOL, bit you
know what, I cannot respect this player, seeing him like that, Mario
should show him some Yzerman and Sakic tapes to show how a real man
plays….He is CRAZY talented, and is amazing talent, i will never take
that away from him, but wow, just wow….
Familiar scene; Dominate the first period, but can’t score. Then proceed to suck for the rest of the game. Flurry near the end, but too little, too late. Rinse, repeat.
Detroit demanded they get the **** referees away from their series and they did, they sent them to us instead, why they don’t send those pricks to call a series that doesn’t matter like Flyers-Bruins?
Boone, they’re the Champions of Diving and that’s about it.
Reality sets in. Habs lose next game no way they come back down 3-1 twice in a row.
Riiiight. The reverse HH jinx?
Well, it was a tight game. I’m disappointed on the few pessimist ones below, cuz the boys played physically and they’ve played tonight. We’re not bad at all without Marky and Spacek, tho it’s obvious we need them both. We may have won it if we would’ve scored on the first period, and we were so close. I’m still very surprised on how they can contain and play against the Caps and Pens.
We’ll get ’em on thursday!
So did darche even play a shift?
According to JM and most of the brillian minds on HIO, SK is a danger to the system if he replaces Darche on the bench. Did Metro play more than two shifts? I really don’t get what Darche does on the bench that is soooooo valuable to JM??
The whiner is on CBC now.
One time, a reporter should ask Crosby when he’s going to stop whining like a spoiled **** to every official in sight.
Our goaltender and our defence did their jobs, but you have to say our forwards did not because, although they had some fair chances, they did not capitalize on them and because they simply did not get enough shots on goal. Plus the Penguins got some outstanding work from their goaltender. Yet we showed we can play with the Penguins, who now know for certain that they have to work hard to advance from this series. To the Canadiens, I would paraphrase what manager Alf Ramsey said to England’s team just before extra-time in the World Cup final of 1966 against Germany: You’ve beaten them once already, now go out and do it again.
I like how on NHl it says Fleury outduels Halak as Pens blank Habs, it should be more like “Halak makes more saves than Fleury, Refs award Pens a shutout.”
I’m sorry but that call on Hall Gill was lobbied for by Crosby. Total crap. Hate to lose on a BS call. Still, the Habs didn’t play with the same intensity they had in the first period. Hard to lose this game.
Looks like we ran out of gas after the first period. Pittsburgh played our game.
Great champs, they scored a pp goal when we were without Markov, Spacek, Gill and Gorges. Very impressive…
AND shame on anyone on here who cheered for the PENS to beat the WINGS last year in the finals, you dotn deserve to be a HABS fan….
GO CHEER YOUR “CROSBY” ON SOMEWHERE ELSE, golden goal or not hes a little BITCH!
Who here lives in Southern Ontario, and wants to travel to Pittsburgh on Saturday with me!
Pitts played a perfect road game. Period.
That Malkin shot was a laser.
Sorry bud, not that perfect IMO. Or else they would be shutting us out by 4 or 5.
If Montreal played a road game like that, we’d have spent 30 minutes SH.
NIce game. Crappy outcome. Fleury was excellent. He made some tough saves. Thought it was funny that both Malkin & Crosby escaped the wrath of the refs after the second period scrum. Funny how that works. Couple questional penalties zapped the momentum from the Habs IMHO.
Anyone else think Laps may have scored on that shot in the 1st?
Heroic effort by the top forwards, but you can only go to the well so many times. Lady luck and fatigue did the Habs in. Does JM not understand you can’t win a series with two and a half lines?
Crosby is a whiney little bi**h, imagine if he had to put up with all the crap the Rocket had to deal with back in the day, he’d probably go back to the dressing room and throw a tantrum and have a big cry for himself. Oh yeah before I forget: DEATH TO COOKE!
The last time the leafs won the cup it was still just a bowl!!
We won WSH that way, but the problem is you can’t win multiple series that way, the fatigue is catching up very badly right now. SK back in so we can roll 4 bloody lines at once! What a revelation! I don’t care if they don’t like each other, we just need Sergei, Metro and even AK to just take 6-7 minutes off the Top 2 line’s workload, and SK to suck up some SH time from Gomez, Gio and Pleks.
Cup teams don’t go with passengers.
I thought the four lines were cycled well for most of the game. When you don’t have terrific depth, you don’t have much choice but to shorten the bench late in the game when you fall behind. Most teams do it.
Common, get your head screwed on right and give credit where it’s deserved.
“Cup teams don’t go with passengers.”
Somebody should tell Sergei that.
Great 1st period but we stopped skating in the 2nd. Only a couple of quality shots in the 3rd. Most were long or from impossible angles and with no traffic in front.
I’m curious to know what the stats on faceoffs was. I could only count a handful that we won.
Sorry, whethered the early strom , took control of the game, scored a goal, held the lead, closed out the game. I can’t describe what Pittburgh did or road hockey any better.
Don’t get me wrong, I’d take him on this team in a heartbeat and I’d draft him first overall…..
But what a bitch!
Scarier then that was how he was flying after that. I want him back to no confidence.
I’d hardly call the Pens champs after tonight’s effort. Our boys handed them the victory. Never a good sign when we play a solid 1st period but don’t cash in on our chances.
HAHAHA….dude has not played a single second in this series and you still find a way to somehow blame SK. Brutal!
isn’t this how it always is?….. Play dominant 1st period, then slack off 2nd and 3rd? jrrz, u think they learn by now
Halak was sharp, goal?…meh, but it was malkin so w.e
OVerall, we need to get better at playing 60 minutes…not 20
I agree, neither guy should have been available for the PP. You gotta wonder how they pick 2 guys out of that mess. Crosby should have got a dive and slash there as well.
No comment on the game coz I didn’t watch it. I volunteer at a foster kids home once a month and these kids anxiously wait for me every week to come do activities with them. I’m going to be honest that I had a good night with them and the smiles on their faces was enough to keep me happy tonight. And honestly, I wasn’t going to give up that valuable time just to watch the game.
But what I came to write here is that be it on the radio or on TV, I’m sick of hearing people say OMG Pittsburgh is playing without Jordan Staal and Bill Guerin and what an accomplishment. Please stop with the bull, we’re playing without Markov and Spacek. They have Crosby AND Malkin. Get serious! I’ll go watch the game and then post my comments later.
“I gotta feeling…that tonight’s gonna be a good night!”
For Penguins playing going down like they were stabbed every time they were touched and not getting called for diving? Okay, that was fine acting on their part. For Crosby crying to the referees until he got a call while they ignored him crosschecking Cammalleri after the whistle?
I’ll give them credit when they earn it.
It’s an easy save without Crosby in front.
And Malkin was invisible for large parts of the game.
Had we scored first we would have won. My continued congratulations to Martin who has been a masterful coach. Gill also a guy I was dead 100% wrong about- what a player. I can’t believe the nightly sustained team defense. Tonight in the first period I actually believed we could go to the Finals. It hurts because had we won tonight I believe crowd would have willed us to 3-1 series lead. But this series is far from over: no Markov and yet they are simply no better than us. I applaud this team, and apologize for my lack of full belief at any point this season prior to tonight. Good thing they believe in themselves.
Oh, and my doubting on the weak willed Kostitsyns? There’s a lot more to a hockey player than skills. Martin doesn’t like ’em and I finally see why. Man is Andrei frustrating, and MA Godin said today team annoyed by early exit of moody pouter SK today in practice.
Forget about the last paragraph. Good on you man, good on you.
And, of course, the only reason he hasn’t played in this series is because JM has somehow developed an inexplicable dislike for a player who plays intelligently, supports his teammates and leaves it all on the ice every game.
It goes both ways bud, what about Subban high sticking Cooke with blood, and no 4 minute call?
Don’t blame the refs. We didn’t score. They did.
And Gill and Gorges to please the Bettman and whiny Cindy.
Blown call by the refs in pittsburgh zone we cough up the puck, Pens go down get a PP and score on it. Game over! Also I would like to know why that offside near the end of the game came right down outside our blue line!!?? Didn’t deserve to win didn’t deserve to lose.
Woman but thanx.
Well I’m personally of the opinion that Cooke have suspended for the season on the Savard hit so when he gets hit, I just think he wouldn’t have been hit if he’d has his sorry, cheap shot, diving, whining ass watching the playoffs on TV like he should be.
I give a lot of credit to Fleury, and some of the Dmen that contained us, but we do know that the Pens have not played one of their best games tonight. This is what I meant. It was really tight, and clearly the Habs couldn’t even pass the puck to each other in the third. But that’s it, I wouldn’t give them so much credit.
Our boys dominated the first 30 mins, and the Pens the second 30 mins.
Anyone else think that PK is being wasted playing with the third line mostly? Those beautiful outlet passes should be going to Gomez not Moore.
Another obvious change that has me wondering what JM is thinking.
ps Pouliot is sooooooo soft on the puck…it really irritates me
Except for Darche, dude only got like two shifts. It’s harder to change on the fly when you’re trying roll four lines with eleven guys. It seemed like often our opportunities to sustain some pressure were passed up because someone was always going off.
That’s irrelevant to the situation. You have turned this debate pointless. It was fun while it lasted.
They were the champs. They have to get by us to get that title this year. Don’t count your chickens before they hatch…
“Wasted a dominant first period”; truer words were never spoken Boone, and all that fan energy behind them too, unreal.
Penguins showed that they can play a tight checking game, and well. Hope this loss does not diffuse the Habs for game 5. They need Spacek back because MAB on defense results in overuse of top 4 d-men. Time also for SK 74 to find his way back in line-up in place of Metropolit.
I just really hate Cooke. For the record, so what if they missed one penalty by PK? They missed a half-dozen dives and a few other infractions by the Pens. The officiating clearly favoured one side tonight and I’m not saying our guys were perfect, but the Penguins did their best to cheat the officials, and won on that.
Anyone reckon that Pittsburgh purposely started that scrum at the end of the 2nd with the sole purpose of getting Gorges off the ice at the same time as Gill?
Sure looked like it!
Actually in place of darche would be a better idea.
NHL says Darche was in the lineup, but played 0 minutes….is that true…. i didnt see him on the bench…..but it would make sense since without him its only 11 forwards
So. Where are the anti-tankers now! Hunh!! Hunh!! Hunh!!!!
Did the kids stay up to watch the game? Hope so. They’ll learn about heart and soul.
Sorry dude, best we can do is pick 22nd. Maybe take a flyer on Kabanov?
Same place as the Blue Jackets, Wild, Panthers, Islanders, Thrashers, Blues organizations are, watching the Playoffs on TV.
We just kicked out one of the teams to most benefit from the tanking strategy and we’re not dead yet against the team that has profited the most from it.
LOL. Present sir!
More like a bunch of chumps.
The west will waste these posers.
We still have a shot at 22nd pick, much better than 30th. 😉
I’d rather have the 30th pick.
We need one of those lists someone on HI/O always finds that shows all the super star 30th picks.
And a lack of a sense of humour is for idiots.
Also wondering why that was an intentional offisde call, especially since we didn’t even touch the puck. They blew it dead while Pittsburgh had it. Our guys argued but the officials had already decided to screw us over.
Then bow to me idiot, since I am your king.
Truth be told, the pens success wasn’t from tanking,it was more from winning the 2005 draft ball lottery pick which landed them crosby. If the pens would have gotten the 2nd pick instead of the first they would not have won the cup and could possibly be playing out of another city. The ducks got the 2nd pick that year. Could you imagine if the ducks had gotten that first pick instead? Getzlaf and crosby down the middle with corey perry on the wing?
Crosby lottery was huge (and suspect), but Malkin, Fleury, Staal gave them a giant boost as well.
No backtracking. I called you an idiot. You called me the king of idiots. Therefore I am your king. Logic. You should try it sometimes. It’s right up there with thinking. On second thought. Nevermind.
True, but they are not a stanley cup team or even a legit contender without it.
Look everybody, Habs_Guru is back.
I’d gladly waste a 30th pick on the next “mr.hockey” from minnesota if it meant skating around with the cup in mid june.
Crosby is not the only reason. Don’t forget Malkin got the MVP for the playoffs. No Malkin no Cup either.
Dude. You just don’t know how stupid you’re sounding, but keep it coming. Now bow to your king idiot.
You know of course that I am being sarcastic. I’d take 30th pick anyday, as long as we don’t trade for it. 😉
actually the losers are on the ice. same crappy team next year filled with 7.3 mil smurfs who can’t score. wonderful!
You’ve been outed again HG. Strike two.
If you weren’t so pathetic you’d almost be funny. How’s the water pistol?
Isn’t that like the troll calling the troll a troll? Bwaaaaahaaaa haaa!!!!
You are an idiot. He is the king of all idiots. He owns you. You heard your king. Bow idiot.
Ya can’t tell me this isn’t funny. Comeon.
Then Gorges needs to be smarter then that. He knows they are starting the third a man down with Gill in the box.
It’s a MAB MAB world.
True dat. I didn’t like the sound of “possible career ending injury” stated earlier. Let’s hope it’s just the wagging of idle tongues.
Punkster likes this comment. Punkster’s gonna go to bed repeating this comment over and over.
You have a point there. SK could have easily put in the same amount of time on the bench. Because that’s exactly where he’d stay.
Good, so you agree it is based on pettiness and unworthy of an NHL coach. Why did he sit Metro? I thought the few shifts Metro had he looked effective.
I don’t get the hate for SK by JM, only he and moen are the only 2 forwards who are not a minus player in the playoffs meanwhile Darche is a -4 in about 5 minutes of icetime. Whats the point of dressing darche if he isn’t going to play a shift.
No I don’t agree. It’s easy to blame the coach when you don’t understand why a player is benched. There’s no logical reason why SK isn’t dressed so therefore it must be the coaches fault. There are reasons he’s not playing but pettiness is not among them. I say that with as much conviction and inside information as you have.
I am doing so may 180’s that I don’t know which way is up or down.
I feel your pain man. My K Bros. opinion changes with every sunrise.

Do you think the Canadiens made a good move trading Brandon Prust in exchange for Zack Kassian?
