Hee. Verkakte has to be one of my fave yiddish words.
I think I already posted this, but I think O’Byrne is the new Chipchura. Occasional flashes of basic functionality, some frustrating steps backward, all of which lead to uncertainty as to whether the player is NHL worthy. With O’Byrne, I think if he were 6’0″ tall his goose would already be cooked. But he has that one magical attribute of being HUGE. It ends there, at least as far as JM is concerned. I don’t think O’Byrne willl get a regular shift in the lineup as long as JM is coach. Ergo, yeah, he may not be done, but he is in the oven.
Now is the time to claim guys on waivers…while the Habs are sitting around the bottom of the standings. I know Brunnstrom has been a bust, but he scored a hat trick in his first NHL game. He’s got to have something, right? A hat trick in your first NHL game is like starting the season 3-0. Any team that does that is definitely going to make the playoffs, right?
Pretty crazy about Brunnstrom – he was a hot commodity only a couple years ago. When the 08-09 season began he was second only to Stamkos in terms of rookie hype.
Funny stuff from Down Goes Brown. How true, in most cases.
Moore was a nice find last year but honestly, does anyone think he will suddenly become a 30 goal scorer just to spite us? 15 goal scorers are almost the proverbial ‘dime a dozen’ and under the cap guys like Moore who have a good year may find themselves priced out of hockey.
I agree. I think JM is still doing try-outs for the 7th d-man. Markov is supposed to come back next Thursday, so why not give Picard a shot for one game. I don’t think it’s a knock on O’Byrne.
Where have you been all this time? I used to enjoy your posts although I often disagreed with you.
You could be right about Ak46. He looks much more involved than last year and he’s playing with an edge, which we never used to see.
I still think Pouliot could become a solid top-six although not a superstar. He’s actually looked quite good so far, and apparently he’s taking his “demotion” in a better spirit than he did last year.
I’m not sure Eller’s ready for top line duty except in short spells. That said, I’d like to see him up there tonight rather than Moen.
Price looks great so far. The team needs to get him a few wins.
Eller is a solid prospect but he’s just in his first year. Let’s not put this guy in a position that’s way over his head.
Pouliot will never be a superstar. His ‘name’ wasn’t a factor in Minnesota and he shite the bed there. He can be a top six guy but I’m starting to get fed up hearing about his lack of confidence. What does he want? He came in here and was basically been given a top six job without having earned it. Time to step up.
I hope you’re right about Andrei. This is his last kick at the can in Montreal and if he fails that means we got dick squat out of the best draft year in ages.
I’m not worried about Price.
We are a wildcard when it comes to winning the Cup. I’m willing to play along in order to keep my sanity on this site.
Pouliot is not a superstar..lol.. but I felt like he was playing with plenty of confidence so far this year, he’s hitting a lot, got a couple assists and a few scoring chances..Dunno why he got moved around. I hope this doesn’t screw him up even more… If anyone needs to pick it up on that line its our captain. He has been invisible.
Lars Eller should be given a shot on the first line. His speed, vision, agility and tremendous puckhandling skills should compliment Gionta and Gomez quite well. The only problem? Too much circling around and not enough shooting lol. Nothing that can’t be adjusted, however!
Pouliot NEEDS to re-gain his confidence. He is a superstar, without an ounce of a doubt, yet there is something blocking him from achieving his potential just yet… Could it be the pressure of having the name “Pouliot” in Quebec that’s hurting him? Hmm…
Andrei Kostitsyn is going to have a breakthrough season. I’ve never seen him play with such intensity and LOVE for the game. With his brother gone, and as hundreds have pointed out, there will be less distractions for #46 going into the season. I’m also starting to sense a revival in terms of his hockey sense… he finally HAS some! He seems to know where to go MOST of the time… In my opinion, he just needs to learn to position himself along the boards to support his teammates. All in due time…
Carey Price is concentrated. Forget talk of his skills; he is razor SHARP and focused like he once used to when he first broke into the NHL. Only thing left now is to see if the team is capable of minimizing shots and scoring more often.
I have to agree with everyone who thinks it’s foolish to conserve a 2-goal lead halfway through the game. There isn’t really much more I can add to that lol
Finally, a note of controversy;
The 2010-2011 Montreal Canadiens are a Stanely Cup contender this year.
Should Pouliot, Kostitsyn, Eller and Price find a certain level of consistency, who’s to say our offense is lacking in any sense?
It is too bad OB has to sit tonight, but I do not think it is the end for him in the CH. He has done alright so far this season and JM HAS to have noticed that. Besides his occasional panic attacks, which will take time to get over, you do not notice him as much as before, and that is a good thing if you want to be a steady defenceman.
Yes, I would trade for Bieksa. Any one of Spacek, Hamrlik, O’Byrne and a pick/prospect. Ideally, it would be Spacek, because Hamrlik’s contract will be gone in the offseason anyways, and we would need to lose both Hamrlik’s and Spacek’s contracts to fit both Bieksa and Markov’s hefty new contract under the cap next season.
Bieksa is basically Komisarek, but faster, with skillz, and a shot. So I guess not at all like Komisarek. But he would be a great pairing with Markov, imo.
Hey guys!! I’m in TO today, and was wondering, are the Leafs playing or will they show the Habs’ game on CBC or TSN?? Anybody knows? Thanks!!
……………………………………………………………….
YES HABS CAN!!
I’d say Eklund’s report means we have no interest in him at all and this trade is never going to happen, just like the Brule, Cogliano and Frolov rumours that he ran for 2 years straight before he pulled Bieksa out of his fat ***.
“Kevin Bieksa has shown up to play this year and has a new lease on life recently playing with Dan Hamhuis, but last night another major source of mine told me the Canadiens WILL trade for Bieksa when Salo returns. “They love him and the Canucks are thrilled Bieksa is playing better so they can get more in return…eventually.”
Take what you want from it ….
For fun, assuming it’s true, what are your thoughts?
————————————————————————
Never judge another man’s decision poor until you actually have proof of it failing!
Actually the ceremony might be pretty good tonight. I know that Henri Richard will be part of the ceremonies. Can’t wait for work to be over so I can get to HSBC! Go Habs Go!
Been a Habs fan since I was in 2nd grade and sat behind Patrick Roy at the Aud.
Yes the Plekster is back after years of inactivity!
I’m sorry to stir the pot right away but I have to disagree with anyone who disagrees with me (lol) concerning Poutliot.
That man WILL be a superstar and has all the abilities to do so - size, speed, soft hands, great shot, good vision of the ice, youth.
He is a total package except for the fact that for some strange reason, he is ALWAYS FALLING!
Can someone PLEASE explain that to me?! Am I the only one who noticed that he hits the ground at least 5 times per game?
Confidence…. that’s what he’s lacking!
Remember how Plekanec’s confidence skyrocketed season after season? Look at him now; untouchable and wearing an A in last night’s game…
Let’s stay patient with Pouliot.
24 Cups, you’re right in saying that he was given first line duty without having earned it and so it is time for him to step up!
And I’d love to come to the summit! I haven’t been to the Bell Centre in close to two years but would love to go watch this team because for the first time in a VERY long time,
I don’t get it either. O’Byrne must be thinking, “they ask me to hit people and play responsibly. I do that, and get sent to the pressbox… while Subban, who handed the game to the Bolts, gets a slap on the wrist.”
Take out the player who has 11 hits in three games with no giveaways and replace him with a player with no hits and a giveaway in two games, who plays softer than any player I can ever remember on a Habs roster. A complete spectator in a goal fot the opposition in each of the games he played in.
Maybe it is the offence upside? No, nothing there. One shot in two games despite four minutes of power play time. Wow, if I were a Sabre I might not even show up tonight.
Spacek’s shot is almost a total waste. He can barely get it off the ice, and it hit Miller dead center. How is that ever going to beat a goalie like Miller?
According to the new rules, only hits where the head is either targeted or the principle point of contact will be penalized. Apparently, dirty hits to the ribs are fine.
IMO Miller is the best goalie in the league and he looks sharp tonight. We will only score dirty goals tonight so the boys better start getting bodies in front of him and throw everything on the net.
Bulldogs behind the ball after the 1st, 2-1 for the Rochester Americans, Kyle Klubertanz scores his first goal as a Bulldog, assisted by Ben Maxwell and Frederic St-Denis.
The Leafs look good right now, we may dismiss it as their season’s hot streak or whatever, but they look good right now. Also, despite what many predicted, the Habs actually look better than most anticipated. And quite honestly, it does not really matter how the Leafs do unless they are playing the Habs.
True. There are guys like this- slow out of the gate.
Only thing is, I don’t remember him looking disinterested, or a step behind. He just looked unlucky, and it was just a matter of time before things started clicking for him.
I hope the same thing is happening this year, cos so far, he’s weirdly out of sync.
From what I just witnessed in the first period they have not progressed from last season. Still far too passive and no attack five on five. Is there even one line that aggressively forechecks and drives to the net?
Granted it is not saying much, but from what I can tell, the 5-on-5 is not scoring goals like you said, but it seems to be a bit more agressive and tenacious…at least when the Pleks line is on.
He is coming down on his off side. It was either try for a shot that 100% of the time would have been deflected, just skate all along the boards which would kill the play, or wait for the trailer…He made the right choice in looking for one of his teammates coming down the middle…You should learn how to play hockey before speaking.
Right choices are dependent on the score and what time it is in the game. Might not be the right choice with a one goal lead to throw the puck into the middle of the ice.
He was in the offensive zone and SAW his man coming in the zone so he tried making the pass. It was not a BLIND PASS to the middle which could get intercepted for a quick rush etc…There was no harm in trying to make the play
Na you should just look in the mirror and start laughing because you sir are a complete joke. Thanks for playing. Better luck next time…Keep on hating everything Canadiens you fraud. Timo is that you? Vlay4bc is that you? Get lost buddy. Winner Winner Chicken Dinner.
Well they are not letting up any shots…Pressure sure…But barely any shots…I think Montreal is outshooting them 2 to 1 this period if I am not mistaken.
If Sean Avery is not suspended then the league is a joke?…
After the whistle he two handed Komisarek in the back of the leg…Komisarek turned around, said something, and then Avery two hand chopped him right in the ankle…A linesman saw it thus told the ref and a penalty was called…But no major…
But if Cammalleri was suspended then Avery has to be!
So far we have two goals on the best goalie in the league, both as a result of having bodies in front of the net. On gorges goal, both Gio and Pouliot were screening miller as Josh hits a rocket off the post and in. Love it.
Sorry its late, but when you need GORGES to score your first PP goal, you know you are not going to end up number 1 in PowerPlay goals at the end of the season… WE NEED MARKOV BACK…
BIG DIFFERENCE between the first and second?????????? FACE OFFS… Winning 9 losing 6. We need to win more faceoffs.
There may be other teams, but only ONE Club De Hockey…
a) when o when is Eller going to finally get his chance and play on a top line martin? No goals aside, this kid is goin full bore, and playing very very well.
b) not a questions actually a statement, the D hung Price out to dry on that goal. Complete breakdown, he had two swings at it with nobody even attempting to disrupt him. Disappointing.
You’re quite right, Steve – I was searching for Halpern in my brain and he didn’t pop out! So far Halpern hasn’t been dreadful by any means though, he’s been a pretty good contributor, actually. And, as you say, cheap!
Maybe we should get into the new debate? How much of a mess was/is Sergei? Would someone like Boucher as a coach be able to get more out of him than Martin? I guess we’ll see with Trotz, but it’s an entirely different dynamic there.
nope, Sergei played last night and was actually stoned point-blank by Jaro…played around 14 minutes, way more than JM would give him, even on his good nights in MTL…I really think SK will turn out quite well in Nash, just seems like the trend these days with the guys this organization loses faith in…Gui! will probably be a 30 goal scorer (if he can get his conditioning back lol), Chipchura is fitting right in in Anaheim, D’ags has got like 4 goals already this year and seems to be turning into a top-6 guy in STL.
Good. Best case scenario is that they win the President’s Trophy, and then get swept in the first round. Boston gets a low pick, and the Buds are still humiliated. It’s win/win for the Habs!

I may disapprove of what you say, but I will defend your right to make yourself look stupid.
Hey the Yankees are losing too! Can’t wait to see them start AJ Burnett! That should be sweet. Nice game tonight. Poor OB is not going to be playing for a while.
I think he’s refering to O’Byrne being replaced by Picard. With Pouliot being demoted to the 4th line despite not being the worst player on his line, it looks as if Martin is back with his usual scapegoats…
I think people are getting bent out of shape about what went on during a practice the day before a game. Gill skated with OB in the morning skate on Wednesday, did they pair up that night? No, people have their panic settings way too high about team practices and what they mean.
I agree, and I will raise your thought about people getting bent out of shape – I think people are getting bent out of shape over the status of friggin’ Ryan O’Byrne and Alex Picard!
You know, I bet BUF is really wishing they hadn’t matched the offer sheet on Vanek these days, this guy’s scored 40 goals before? Moen’s been a bigger force than him.
Something that was bugging me ALL game. You would think after doing OVER 200 Play by Plays with Spach in the game, YOU WOULD THINK SOMEONE WOULD TELL HIM ITS S-P-A-C-E-K and not S-P-A-C-H-U-K….. He really irritates me on that… Used to call him KOVALOV too……
There may be other teams, but only ONE Club De Hockey…
Haha, well I will say that it was too close. I’m tired of these nailbiters. That’s as close to a complaint as I can muster. Great game by Price, he was just super-solid again. All you can ask for. And the Habs didn’t get outshot/outplayed, so maybe things are looking up?
That “should” be three in a row, and with Cammy in game one we could be four and 0. The games have all been tight but the boys are coming to play and seem to be a “team” right now. I am liking what I am seeing.
Let’s not get too carried away on the optimism stuff there Bill. I have a limited supply of rose coloured glasses to hand out you know. But a win certainly does make the rough spots appear less worrisome. Give them a bit of time, even Gomez, and I think they’ll find the net more often.
yeah that’s true. Lots of times the Sabres knew what the Habs were trying to do, beat them to the puck, failed to finish. The one time they managed to do what they were supposed to do, they scored. Habs need to play more disciplined tomorrow against the Senators. Price starts again tomorrow.
The Leafs GM who wants to bring back hooking, holding and eliminate the two-line pass so we can have pre-lockout hockey? Yeah, that genius is really what this NHL needs, arguing for the things that were killing the NHL before the lockout for entertainment.
Minnesota Wild under Lemaire working out 20 tie games a season, that was a gem for hockey entertainment wasn’t it?
People have been stating that the Leafs are miles ahead of the Habs for at least the past three seasons now….the fact that they currently are playing well does not mean that people are suddenly clairvoyant. Also, Burke had a plan, PG also had a plan, just because the plans are different does not mean one is better than the other, all we can say is that one plan is more suited to one team than the other.
Possibly bad feng shui…I remember hearing from some people that some feng shui experts said that the Molson Center’s feng shui was all messed up and that it was not conducive to winning championships…kinda wacky adn far-fetched, but then again, Gorges and Price sacrificed a hockey stick for a goal…so who knows.
Cammalleri seems to be fighting the puck a bit. Nice that we are not taking stupid penalties so far. Pouliot,s was because he was not skating and reached out with the stick.
Patrick Sharp has 2 goals tonight for CHI in a 4-1 game over Columbus, safe to say it was wise for them to dump others to retain him at all costs essentially.
Hey Mr. Boone, it would be nice if for once a game involving the Habs did not depend on one break either way. Tough way to play an 82 game schedule for the team and the fans.
The only reason that that play even came close to our net was that Spacek decided to double-team the man that AK was covering, instead of picking up the guy with the puck.
I love and appreciate this site but the folks running it have to upgrade the servers or something. People most want to vent, comment, celebrate, at the end of the game and it has been crashing every night now at the end.
C Louis Leblanc scored the only goal in the SO for a 3-2 win for the MTL Juniors, he had his 5th game of the season in regulation and has 5G in 8GP.
D Jarred Tinordi was +1 on the night for a 5-3 win for the London Knights.
D Morgan Ellis of the Cape Breton Screaming Eagles had an assist in a 4-3 loss to Rimouski Oceanic.
Bulldogs: David Desharnais had 1G, 1A, as did Ben Maxwell. Brendon Nash and Gabriel Dumont both recorded their first AHL assists, Yannick Weber picked up a pair of assists, JT Wyman, Andrew Conboy and Kyle Klubertanz added the other goals for a 5-2 win over the Rochester Americans. Robert Mayer had 19 saves on 21 shots.
With how tough Pouliot is playing, he should be on the Gio-Gomez line. He may be snake-bit, but he’s not floating. And a snake-bit Pouliot is still more likely to score that Moen.
solid game by the d and price…we will have to win many games like this as moen, pyatt, lapps, halpern, boyd will chip in some goals but no too many…pouliot at best is a 15 goal a year scorer..gomez is not a goal scorer..maybe ak46..elelr still learning in the nhl . .we will have just as much secondary scoring issues as last year…
Ain’t great tonight? He’s sucked since the pre-season. He has been making horrible passes, his positioning is off. His zone clearances are as bad as last year.
Cammalleri has always been a bit of a one-trick pony. His trick is fantastic and every team needs offensive output like he can deliver, but he’ll never be a great two-way player, playmaker, or the grittiest guy. That being said, I’d take Cammy over Kessel.
i think an eller/pouliot/halpern line could work. i wouldn’t be surprised to see that sometime this year. we could move pyatt to the left of gomez and gionta (speed, speed, speed), and have lappy play with moen and boyd. it’s not like we have a fourth line, in my opinion. call it two scoring lines, and two third lines.
I wasn’t that thrilled with our opening ceremony. I liked the players in a circle, and I liked the fact that Gionta tried to speak French, but he truly massacred even the numbers – and mispronounced several players’ names. But – he did give it a go.
you’re definitely on to something there…I’ve heard rumblings from very credible sources that Moore isn’t exactly loved in the locker room, quite the opposite. There’s definitely some guys in the league who have a lingering air of pretentiousness around them, Moore and his pedigree from Harvard maybe? who knows, but really I can say with some certainty that he wasn’t a locker room guy…which is very strange to me, because his play on the ice suggests he’d be a favorite amongst the guys, he just never quits. I noticed the exchange with Moen too and thought the exact same thing, considering they even played on a line together most of the time.
I would have liked to keep the guy, he scored maybe the biggest goal of the playoffs for us, but now I see maybe why PG chose to take a pass. The guy is still a great player though, already has 2 goals on the season, he just seems to make every team he plays with better, even when he was with Toronto I remember him always giving our D-men fits.
Did anyone else notice that the current team didn’t seem to be playing all that nice with Moore? I don’t know if it speaks to something that goes on in the locker room or anything.
At first, I just chalked it up to Max Lapierre being Max and Moore took exception to his hit to get his penalty.
But later on in that scrum with Moen, Moen did NOT look like he was best of friends with the guy.
Again, I realize they’re on different teams now, but Moore, for as decent a player as he is, really seems to float from team to team. Why is that?
Other than that, I still like Eller and Boyd in lieu of Metro and Moore.
Mike – To be fair, it’s basically Metro and Moore for Boyd and Halpern.
Eller only enters the debate when we talk about what we gained from trading one of our goalies (which we don’t need to talk about anymore!)
Metro was a waiver pick-up and certainly was a great bargain. Halpern was a late summer UFA signing from the bargain basement (reminds me of the old Eatons). G&G should keep that in mind next summer when they are filling out the roster. Only crazy GMs sign players on July 1st.
I still feel that we overpaid for Moore seeing that we might have been able to get him for a 3rd rounder. Of course G&G would counter that by stating they beat out the other teams by strking early and that Moore’s play had a significant impact on our late season heroics. Hard to argue with that train of thought.
Boyd for Sergei? I feel that G&G made a mistake here. It’s not an earth shattering one, but you have to wonder if a smart GM could have landed Boyd and picked up a (mid round) draft choice for SK74. Boyd was dumped by two teams in four months. He wasn’t qualified by Nashville, which made him a UFA on July 1st. How many teams were knocking on his door? Hard to say but the only thing he had going for him was his age and potential upside. He probably would have signed with Montreal even if the trade wasn’t made. As for Sergei, who knows? He’s on the IR right now so we really won’t be able to evaluate this trade until the spring. Barry Trotz is a great coach and Nashville has a thin roster up front so this is a wonderful opportunity for Sergei to shine.
If I remember right Pouliot was playing great scorin goals when Mr Martin put him on the forth line with no explanation .Sure worked well and he has done it again.
IMO, Pouliot has been working really hard, but JM and the team need some goal production out of him. His problem seems to be all between his ears. He really needs to start believing in himself again. Once he does, his knack for finding the back of the net will return.
Hmmm….PK on the 3rd pairing. I know he’s made mistakes but honestly? Who else will take those minutes? I’d prefer 3rd/4th D minutes at least, we need his enthusiasm and skill. He just needs to pull it back a notch and be mindful of penalties.
OT – that “it gets better video” is tough to watch. Really brave man to give his story and tell it like it is.
No. Moore is good in short bursts, but over time he feels that he’s entitled to ice time that he really doesn’t deserve. The reason it takes forever to sign him is a free agent is because he thinks he’s better than he is. For a playoff run he’s nice to have around, much longer and he gets a big head.
It’s simple, Montreal had huge holes in the bottom six thanks to injuries. The Moore trade filled a key role and might have saved the season. A second round pick is about the going rate for a player of Moore’s ilk, hell the year before Buffalo trade a second round pick to the Leafs for a player named, you guessed it Dominic Moore.
IMO, the Hab’s 0.500 record y-t-d (courtesy of the NHL’s 3 point game rule) doesn’t reflect the team’s potential. The two losses were one goal games that could easily have gone the other way. In addition, the Hab’s have been missing some key personnel, including the team’s MVP (in Markov). Maybe I’m the eternal optimist, but based on what I’ve seen so far, this year’s version of the team is an upgrade on the last. The Habs typically have a tough time against both Buffalo and Ottawa. These matches will provide a good indication of the team’s progress.
As soon as they sign him, I will buy his Jesrey. He is becoming my Favorite player. He epitomizes what ever player should want to become, the heart of the team
As soon as they sign him, I will buy his Jesrey. He is becoming my Favorite player. He epitomizes what ever player should want to become, the heart of the team
N/P, it should also be added that Brendan Gallagher with the VAN Giants just notched another goal as well, his 9th in 11 games to open the scoring for his team tonight. If the WJC team wants to bring a guy who just has finish, he’s certainly making a case for his selection.
Friends in from out of town – didn’t get back from the restaurant until 9:30 and we had drinks and dessert here. Missed the game completely. My son says that AK46 was flying and that Moen looked great with the Jersey Boys. Looking forward to tomorrow night.
Great game, fellas worked hard! almost all looked good, especially AK seems, to be working on a contract. Seems like something up with Gomez tho, doesnt seem his normal self.
Question tho, the whole third was played defensivley, as usual with a lead, but i was wondering why Jacques puts Cammi out there with a min left? i realize it was an O zone faceoff, but to play sit back hockey and then put a offensive guy out there in the last min seems weird. Not a knock on Cammi either, its not his job to secure wins. Just curious of any thoughts on the subject.
Moen’s play in the third made me stop wondering why he wasn’t on the second line instead of Eller.
Gorges should score game-winning goals more often (than annually).
Gorges was also very leader-like in breaking the pp jinx. Good to see his teammates congratulating him post-game.
Price is nice – looks like the team is starting to have the unconcious faith in him that was previously reserved for Halak, then previously Huet, then previously Theo. So it is now Price’s team. Go forth and multiply, I say.
And unlike the 2008 Price, this one was not taken off his game from
being bowled over by the opposition (better try another tack there,
Ruffy).
Gionta and Gomez looked like they are rounding into form.
AK46 is fighting for his contract. Like I thought. He will be a force all season if he remains healthy.
Subban did great at checking himself tonight. His one brain-fart resulted in him kicking it into gear and recovering brilliantly. No PiM and he retained Martin’s confidence to the point of playing 20+ minutes. No worries with this kid.
Picard played very well except for one rush in the 3rd where Buffalo’s speed proved too much for him and they almost tied it up on an excellent scoring chance. He is not up to O’Byrne’s potential, so I gather when Markov is back, Picard sits.
Way to go, Hamr, for getting kidney-pummeled but coming back to play strong all game.
Pouliot was great again, despite not showing up on the scoresheet. I hope to high heaven his teammates are giving him pats on the back and whatever else you reward a millionaire with.
Ottawa tomorrow. I have a feeling they left something in the tank. Can’t wait.
Moore (1.1 million) that he’s getting has more or less given us Justin (that’s what I’m calling him from today) Boyd (0.650mil) and Jeff Halpern (0.600mil). And both of them play a similar style to Moore and Boyd is much younger too.
I’m not pissed about letting Moore walking because I’ve liked what I’ve seen from the other two so far.
I agree, and will add that Montreal has a fair number of up and coming prospects that can fill Moore’s type of role. It would have likely taken a 2 year deal to keep Moore, which means one less spot for a player like Ryan White next season. All that said, I would not have been upset had Moore been kept, he was a fine player. The trade was a win-win for all parties.
Folks, I was holding back, didn’t want to spoil the excitement of a new season, but this years cast is a catastrophe in the making, tonight the wheels are going to fall off, big time.
Again we have the skill, but no power, no sustained grit, and its going to cost us dearly…again.
HENRY and SHULTZ should have made the squad over PICARD and DARCHE, that was the first mistake of the year….and where is WHITE? he would bump POULIET off the roster….anyway, I am enjoying AK and LAPS who have shown up, and the steady CAM/GOMEZ/GION/PLEK/MOEN/PYAT along with PRICEY and some good work by BOYD/HALPERN…..
good luck.
1:The N.A.G. (North American Grit) Youth Movement will bring us respect. 2:The NHL-Ref-Syndicate will do everything in its power to never allow the HABS to win another Stanley Cup. 3:Bring up HENRY/SHULTZ before we get slapped around some more.
Louis Leblanc gets on the board early with his 5th goal in his 8th game of the season in the first period. Morgan Ellis with Cape Breton has an assist over 2 periods.
Buffalo announcer just said Price has struggled this year… How do these people have jobs with NHL franchises when they don’t even bother to make factual statements?
“I don’t know half of you half as well as I should like; and I like less than half of you half as well as you deserve.”

Coaches must hate when guys take intentional offside calls. There shouldn’t be a stoppage at all, but instead there is, and it’s in your own zone. It’s a dumb play.
It was Vanek. Obviously, the way to avoid getting called for goalie interference is to make sure you bump a defensive player first, so you can say they pushed you in.
Couldn’t tell but I saw it too. Boyd took him in to the crease, so I’m fine with no penalty but that’s incidental contact with the goalie and the play should be blown dead. The keeper has to have at least an opportunity to make the save.
I hate to be pesimistic but you guys can see it happening can;t you? Buffalo coming on, Habs backing up…Sabres score again and then go ahead to win the game. Sorry

I’d rather have a guy who scores a point per game over three games, than who gets a hat trick in one.
Now all we need to do is find all the guys on waivers who have a point per game… and pick one. Preferably French. And over 6’2″.
Hey JF,
I’ve been busy with school!
And people generally disagreed with me because I was a cocky little pr*ck lol…
I’m wondering if I should go back to that? haha
Any team that does that is definitely going to make the playoffs, right?
http://habsloyalist.blogspot.com
Pretty crazy about Brunnstrom – he was a hot commodity only a couple years ago. When the 08-09 season began he was second only to Stamkos in terms of rookie hype.
Go Habs Go!
Weren’t Martin St Louis and Marc Savard also on waivers at one time. Pierre, you never know.

Thomas Vanek: no points and -4 over 4GP so far, I think we can cope.
- I shall always remember Captain Koivu.
http://habsandhockey.blogspot.com/
I agree. I think JM is still doing try-outs for the 7th d-man. Markov is supposed to come back next Thursday, so why not give Picard a shot for one game. I don’t think it’s a knock on O’Byrne.

KIDDING!
You know we luv ya, Timo!
Wow – that’s quite a return to H I/O!
P.S. Will we see you at the Summit?
Pouliot is not a superstar..lol.. but I felt like he was playing with plenty of confidence so far this year, he’s hitting a lot, got a couple assists and a few scoring chances..Dunno why he got moved around. I hope this doesn’t screw him up even more… If anyone needs to pick it up on that line its our captain. He has been invisible.

Your problem, JT, is that you’ve answered the question thruthfully. No good can come from that.
Markov-Subban
Hamrlik-Spacek
Gill-Gorges
Thats a pretty good top 6
Just a few thoughts from the Plekster:
Finally, a note of controversy;
The 2010-2011 Montreal Canadiens are a Stanely Cup contender this year.
Should Pouliot, Kostitsyn, Eller and Price find a certain level of consistency, who’s to say our offense is lacking in any sense?
Only prospect they should consider throwing in that trade is Maxwell.. Spacek and Maxwell for Bieksa would be ok I guess.

Unfortunately, we have reached the number of participants your profile.”

I tried to take the survey but couldn’t get past the first question, do you promise to answer thoughtfully? This is an HI/O survey isn’t it?
It is too bad OB has to sit tonight, but I do not think it is the end for him in the CH. He has done alright so far this season and JM HAS to have noticed that. Besides his occasional panic attacks, which will take time to get over, you do not notice him as much as before, and that is a good thing if you want to be a steady defenceman.
“I am guilty of using elipses…”
Took the survey…..whats all this stuff about giving away my firstborn upon signing up to HIO?! O_o
Goalies in Montreal have two roles, netminder and scapegoat.
Exclusionist pigs. Tell it that you’re from Montreal.
I took the survey. (Mike, I’ll expect a pint from you at the Summit)
Tried your silly survey. It doesn’t want my opinion.
http://habsloyalist.blogspot.com
Keeping in mind you said “assuming it’s true”…
Yes, I would trade for Bieksa. Any one of Spacek, Hamrlik, O’Byrne and a pick/prospect. Ideally, it would be Spacek, because Hamrlik’s contract will be gone in the offseason anyways, and we would need to lose both Hamrlik’s and Spacek’s contracts to fit both Bieksa and Markov’s hefty new contract under the cap next season.
Bieksa is basically Komisarek, but faster, with skillz, and a shot. So I guess not at all like Komisarek. But he would be a great pairing with Markov, imo.
That better be the last survey.
Ahhh.. and I apologize for not getting all levels of sarcasm

Hey guys!! I’m in TO today, and was wondering, are the Leafs playing or will they show the Habs’ game on CBC or TSN?? Anybody knows? Thanks!!

YES HABS CAN!!

I’m going to Hurley’s to watch the game upstairs on the big screen.

Never judge another man’s decision poor until you actually have proof of it failing!
We’ve seen exciting flashes before. If he gives us 40 good games over the whole season, it will be progress. And I consider myself to one of his fans.
I’m conflicted… the last time the Leafs got off to a 4-0 start, the Habs won the Cup. Does that mean that I have to root for them tonight?
The Aud was great for that. You could arrive early to watch the pre-game warmup and stand right behind the visitor’s net. Can’t do that in the HSBC.
I’d say Eklund’s report means we have no interest in him at all and this trade is never going to happen, just like the Brule, Cogliano and Frolov rumours that he ran for 2 years straight before he pulled Bieksa out of his fat ***.
Bieksa’s nothing special.

Been a Habs fan since I was in 2nd grade and sat behind Patrick Roy at the Aud.
Absolutely, when Markov is back, the six man D is solid.
I think JT was being sarcastic.
http://www.ladyloveshockey.com
I think you’re right. If all the D are healthy, somebody has to go to Hamilton. It’s most likely to be Picard.
Martin is giving him another game with the Habs before he heads to the AHL.
Yes, if current D includes Markov.
I would rather have boyd and Halpern than Moore (even though Moore is a great player).
And any word on who starts in goal (99% sure its price but who knows?)
Does anyone think our current collection of D-men is going to cut it for us this year?

24 cups!!!
I haven’t been to the Bell Centre in close to two years but would love to go watch this team because for the first time in a VERY long time,
I’m proud of who the Canadiens are!
I don’t get it either. O’Byrne must be thinking, “they ask me to hit people and play responsibly. I do that, and get sent to the pressbox… while Subban, who handed the game to the Bolts, gets a slap on the wrist.”
Okay what’s the thinking here?
Take out the player who has 11 hits in three games with no giveaways and replace him with a player with no hits and a giveaway in two games, who plays softer than any player I can ever remember on a Habs roster. A complete spectator in a goal fot the opposition in each of the games he played in.
Maybe it is the offence upside? No, nothing there. One shot in two games despite four minutes of power play time. Wow, if I were a Sabre I might not even show up tonight.
That should be great?
Can we get some context on these players who go unnamed?

I really don’t think our PP is that bad,we just seem to whiff on some golden oppurtunities.
Spacek’s shot is almost a total waste. He can barely get it off the ice, and it hit Miller dead center. How is that ever going to beat a goalie like Miller?
Would that not be a penalty?

IMO Miller is the best goalie in the league and he looks sharp tonight. We will only score dirty goals tonight so the boys better start getting bodies in front of him and throw everything on the net.

The Leafs look good right now, we may dismiss it as their season’s hot streak or whatever, but they look good right now. premature ejaculation…. REALLY premature
I like it. I grew up in the era of light-jerseys-at-home.
From what I just witnessed in the first period they have not progressed from last season. Still far too passive and no attack five on five. Is there even one line that aggressively forechecks and drives to the net?
ps I am talking about the Habs

Granted it is not saying much, but from what I can tell, the 5-on-5 is not scoring goals like you said, but it seems to be a bit more agressive and tenacious…at least when the Pleks line is on.

Well I’d rather have Pouliot than Moen on the second line.
It happened at the ’07 deadline: we sent Rivet to the Sharks for Gorges and a first rounder (Pacioretty). One of Gainey’s best moves.

Mike – Halpern is this year’s version of Bryan Smolinski. I just hope he moves his feet a bit more instead of standing around for most of his shift.
nope, Sergei played last night and was actually stoned point-blank by Jaro…played around 14 minutes, way more than JM would give him, even on his good nights in MTL…I really think SK will turn out quite well in Nash, just seems like the trend these days with the guys this organization loses faith in…Gui! will probably be a 30 goal scorer (if he can get his conditioning back lol), Chipchura is fitting right in in Anaheim, D’ags has got like 4 goals already this year and seems to be turning into a top-6 guy in STL.
Good. Best case scenario is that they win the President’s Trophy, and then get swept in the first round. Boston gets a low pick, and the Buds are still humiliated. It’s win/win for the Habs!

Kessel scores in OT the dude will get 45 for sure. The Leafs are 4-0 LOL.

You spoke too soon. Yankees win 6-5
Hey the Yankees are losing too! Can’t wait to see them start AJ Burnett! That should be sweet. Nice game tonight. Poor OB is not going to be playing for a while.
I’m pretty sure that no.23 was the goal song.
Maybe they played “Les Canadiens sont la” in the arena? Or after a victory?
They played Les Canadiens Sont La in the arena, after a victory AND after the Habs scored in NHL 94
(Just liked they played “Drunken Sailor” after the Pens scored in NHL 94)

GO HABS GO!
hehe, going to be really quiet for another 21 hours.

Price is 2-1-1 with a 2.47 GAA and a .925%. Habs/Price 2 – TROLL 2
LOL
I think he’s refering to O’Byrne being replaced by Picard. With Pouliot being demoted to the 4th line despite not being the worst player on his line, it looks as if Martin is back with his usual scapegoats…
I think people are getting bent out of shape about what went on during a practice the day before a game. Gill skated with OB in the morning skate on Wednesday, did they pair up that night? No, people have their panic settings way too high about team practices and what they mean.
- I shall always remember Captain Koivu.
http://habsandhockey.blogspot.com/
I agree, and I will raise your thought about people getting bent out of shape – I think people are getting bent out of shape over the status of friggin’ Ryan O’Byrne and Alex Picard!
Go Habs Go!
Maybe JM has a pacifist idiology going here. He feels the need to punish the only two players who hit by demoting them.
and the NHL officiating amateur hour continues….

WOW, crappy crappy call… NO NEED FOR THAT. But ill take it, WE DESERVE IT…

What a joke!! NHL officiating in the worst in pro sports.
You know, I bet BUF is really wishing they hadn’t matched the offer sheet on Vanek these days, this guy’s scored 40 goals before? Moen’s been a bigger force than him.

Hal Gill: what a teammate.

Canadiens fans are not the only fans to boo their team off the ice. Buffalo tonight and Calgary really gave it to the home team.
‘Cogito ergo doleo’
Hey, who wants to be the first to complain about a win?
Nothing wrong with the ref’s there were 7 sabres on the ice, not including Miller.
The linesman was going to call a too many men penalty on Buffalo cause they had 6 guys on the ice but Miller had gone to the bench
- In Price We Trust
Ref blew the whistle on a non-call, ending the Sabres’ last potentially dangerous chance prematurely. Sabres were irate.
Price good again. The team actually played well enough to win. Lets see if they can keep this going.
Ref called Buffalo for too many men but miscounted killing the last second rush.
i think that Buffalo was booing the refs more than anything
Ref blew the play dead thinking there was a penalty, but they didn’t end up calling anything. Pretty lucky break for us.

All the refs did wrong was not call Buf for Too Many Men.
I’m stuck with MSG here in B-lo and they were showing the change. Two guys jumped from the bench when Miller went off.
Solid game. Good win. Price was the man when needed. End of story!

Nice to see Carey having fun with PK. That is four pretty solid outings from him now.
3 Stars:
Price
Gorges
Miller
You must have had the deciding vote – almost got them in the official correct order and everything!
Go Habs Go!
Haha, well I will say that it was too close. I’m tired of these nailbiters. That’s as close to a complaint as I can muster. Great game by Price, he was just super-solid again. All you can ask for. And the Habs didn’t get outshot/outplayed, so maybe things are looking up?
Full Breezer 4 Life
Habs outplayed someone.
And then won.
Good to see those two things go together for once.
More of this in the future, please.

Playing at all Brian?
yeah that’s true.

Minnesota Wild under Lemaire working out 20 tie games a season, that was a gem for hockey entertainment wasn’t it?

http://habsandhockey.blogspot.com/
People have been stating that the Leafs are miles ahead of the Habs for at least the past three seasons now….the fact that they currently are playing well does not mean that people are suddenly clairvoyant. Also, Burke had a plan, PG also had a plan, just because the plans are different does not mean one is better than the other, all we can say is that one plan is more suited to one team than the other.
“I am guilty of using elipses…”

The curse of a new building
The home team.
Go Habs Go!
They did not spread the cap around, to much cap to a few players does not make a team, they are on their way down.
“I am guilty of using elipses…”
Cammalleri seems to be fighting the puck a bit. Nice that we are not taking stupid penalties so far. Pouliot,s was because he was not skating and reached out with the stick.
Price looks sharp again.

Prospects Update:

Excellent report. Thanks for that!!!
With how tough Pouliot is playing, he should be on the Gio-Gomez line. He may be snake-bit, but he’s not floating. And a snake-bit Pouliot is still more likely to score that Moen.
solid game by the d and price…we will have to win many games like this as moen, pyatt, lapps, halpern, boyd will chip in some goals but no too many…pouliot at best is a 15 goal a year scorer..gomez is not a goal scorer..maybe ak46..elelr still learning in the nhl . .we will have just as much secondary scoring issues as last year…
Eller is GOOD. That little knockdown was great.
He (and this newly confident Price) are the biggest bright spots on the team for me.

Ain’t great tonight? He’s sucked since the pre-season. He has been making horrible passes, his positioning is off. His zone clearances are as bad as last year.
Love Cammy, but he is brutal these days.
Cammalleri has always been a bit of a one-trick pony. His trick is fantastic and every team needs offensive output like he can deliver, but he’ll never be a great two-way player, playmaker, or the grittiest guy. That being said, I’d take Cammy over Kessel.
David Desharnais and Ben Maxwell tally to give the Bulldogs lead back, 3-2 with 8 left in the 2nd period.

i think an eller/pouliot/halpern line could work. i wouldn’t be surprised to see that sometime this year. we could move pyatt to the left of gomez and gionta (speed, speed, speed), and have lappy play with moen and boyd. it’s not like we have a fourth line, in my opinion. call it two scoring lines, and two third lines.
JM. Here is the line-up I want to see on the ice next week.
AK46-Pleks-Cammi
Gomer-Gio-Eller
Laps-Boyd-Pouliot
Moen-Halpern-Pyatt
Marky-PK
Hammer-Spaceman
Gorges-Gill

Note the new digs! but yeah I’m still on Twitter!
I wasn’t that thrilled with our opening ceremony. I liked the players in a circle, and I liked the fact that Gionta tried to speak French, but he truly massacred even the numbers – and mispronounced several players’ names. But – he did give it a go.
Gotta give gio credit for trying even though. But if thats what it takes to keep the wolves at bay, then so be it.
Did you expect him to speak perfectly? I mean come on…
How about you try to speak Russian after having no conversational training and see how great your pronounciation is.
you’re definitely on to something there…I’ve heard rumblings from very credible sources that Moore isn’t exactly loved in the locker room, quite the opposite.
/\\ike
GO HABS GO!
THE team was playing well so change the lines.
Really brave man to give his story and tell it like it is.
l’Antichambre expose Gill’s error on the Roy goal.
No. Moore is good in short bursts, but over time he feels that he’s entitled to ice time that he really doesn’t deserve. The reason it takes forever to sign him is a free agent is because he thinks he’s better than he is. For a playoff run he’s nice to have around, much longer and he gets a big head.
Took the survey. Just want to say that I find H I/O to be the best blogging site compared to the other teams’.
I’m a bit obsessed with the site. It keeps me sane and healthy. I suffered a mild heart attack when it crashed a while ago.
Other than that, here’s hoping to a good game and a W.
Go Habs
The question about Moore should be, “Why would they have traded a second rounder for a few months of play?”
Most of the RDS crew are predicting Buffalo wins tonight and Ottawa tomorrow.
RDS has guys who think MAB is the missing piece to victory…
- I shall always remember Captain Koivu.
http://habsandhockey.blogspot.com/
Perhaps maybe the RDS guys should go and root for the laffs then.
That’s great because they are always wrong. lol
annyone know why kostitsyn took off his visor?
- I support Carey Price as the Number 1 Goalie!
Don’t know, but whatever he’s doing, I hope he keeps it up.
Maybe he’s like LaFleur. When he took off his helmet, his career took off.
So does JM sit on this lead?

Didn’t Moore score in both game 7s last year? If so, then yes, shoulda kept him.
We must sign re-sign Gorges. Lock him up long-term, I don’t care, we need this dude.

WL – Could be worse.
Who needs MAB when you have Gorges?
I noticed Gomez and Lapierre…exchanging grins and chuckles on the bench with 2 minutes left ..nice to see them ” in the game “….
all the moves made JM look like a genious.. i can only imagine how mad some of the posers here are lol.
pouliot looked great on the 4th line
moen was very effective on the first
Picard had a very decent game.
Pleks with the A was cool and he played well.
AK46 was a monster tonight.
only bad night was for Cammy who just had a bad game.
great game by Price.
very nice win
——————
88 is the new 23
POINTS OF INTEREST:
Can’t wait.
I missed those goofy victory moves the guys do in a win. So nice to see!
Rangers tie it up. That two goal lead is always deadly, hope the Habs and JM don’t try to sit back.
‘Cogito ergo doleo’
I took the survey, so where’s my aston martin and trip to vegas?
Like I said last time:
Moore (1.1 million) that he’s getting has more or less given us Justin (that’s what I’m calling him from today) Boyd (0.650mil) and Jeff Halpern (0.600mil). And both of them play a similar style to Moore and Boyd is much younger too.
I’m not pissed about letting Moore walking because I’ve liked what I’ve seen from the other two so far.
“It must be love!”
I’d second this opinion right here.

Anybody have a good link to stream tonight’s game
http://www.atdhe.net
Bookmark it. It has pretty much every game up there.

Just trying to find out what time in will it be in Japan…
OK so around 9am, which means I will barely see the 1st period..
Tomorrow, I can watch the whole game. Finally. Hasn’t happened since the season opener.
Thanks
I’ve used it before with some success, but I’ll try it again.
So HIO, you enough people fir your survey that fit my profile: “thruthful, and from BC” – are you sure????
I got $10 bucks Henri Richard drops Smith before all is said and done.
I guess they have enough from NB as well.
No wonder I could have gotten tickets for so cheap for tonight, look at all the empty seats!

Henry’s not an NHL-capable defencemen and Schultz’s conditioning isn’t there yet, nor his skating.

Well that was an exciting ceremony, can’t wait to see what stops they pull out for the 50th!

Start the game! The pomp and circumstance we have had to endure this year is killing me!
“I don’t know half of you half as well as I should like; and I like less than half of you half as well as you deserve.”

Price has faced 110 shots in the first 3 games. More than any goalie so far. Good job JM for adapting a style to support the kid.
Good chance…
Close one there.
This third line of Eller, Lapierre and Halpern has no shortage of centers, does it?
good pressure by the good guys

Buffalo announcer just said Price has struggled this year… How do these people have jobs with NHL franchises when they don’t even bother to make factual statements?

Roy is a great diver.. I give him 10
I can’t believe they didn’t call that one.
Shattered my jaw on the floor with that one – “booed off the ice a few times at home this year”
They’re positively truculent.

Tired D, not good.
and a typical rookie icing.
Just going to say it, if this is Andrei without Sergei we never shoulda drafted the punk.

Would have been really fun to watch that.
Coaches must hate when guys take intentional offside calls. There shouldn’t be a stoppage at all, but instead there is, and it’s in your own zone. It’s a dumb play.
Double post-apologies
Isn’t that the truth?
Pretty easy solution. Just ignore me.
I’ll stop complaining when they start calling games with at least some semblance of impartiality.
In other words, never.
Habs have a 3-1 PP advantage. How is that even remotely impartial?
Every time a Habs player falls to the ice or is touched you’re on here blaming the refs. The team wins and loses the games, not the zebras.

One of my all time NHL video game memories was NHL94′s goal song for the habs.
You can find it here http://nhl94.com/html/multimedia/downloads.php#audio in the group of midi’s 21-30 in which it is number 23.
bah bah bah de da do dah dah bum bum bum bum da da dum da da!
Don’t you mean number 36?

GO HABS GO!
That clip from Swingers on the NHL93 link is classic.
And as a bonus, Mike Cammalleri’s in it – stage right, sitting on the couch.

GO HABS GO!
Gomez man…another turnover. Let’s get it going!
How is that not a penalty? WTF is that ref watching?
Jimmy man, you have got to stop complaining about the refs.

Boyd went crashing into the net.

I saw that too. I am just so used to it now I hardly notice anymore. I smell some fake penalties coming soon too.
Go Habs Go!
Holy cow this team just forgets how to play a god damn hockey game after gaining a lead.
VERY FRUSTRATING.
Another factor worth considering is the opposing team gets more agressive when behind.
So what’s the over/under on how many minutes into the sabres/hawks game Hjalmarsson gets jumped tomorrow? 5? 6?
however long it takes tyler myers/nathan gerbe to skate to him off the opening faceoff

I hate to be pesimistic but you guys can see it happening can;t you? Buffalo coming on, Habs backing up…Sabres score again and then go ahead to win the game. Sorry
But that’s the system, fool.

Needless to say Price’s mates have a tradition of crashing on him (hello Josh Gorges), but I definitely saw a Sabre’s stick push Price.

That goal gave them life.
ANd Toronto stays undefeated
I feel a penalty coming very soon

The things they’ve let go, and they call that? What a joke.
wow, that’s a penalty now?

Boys look good so far, AK needs to dump that puck deeper, not a good play. But hey he’s been great this year so I can forgive the guy

That was a terrible call. There was no penalty there.
is there anybody awake in the arena? Quiet crowd or what!!

I agree, that was awful. How do you let so much go early on then call that?
True, but I was just saying that Im done killing Benny
“It’s not an obsession, It’s a way of life..”
Looked like Benny took a pretty good slash at the end of that play. He glanced back as he skated away, hopefully he took a number for later.
