Sixth place

But it shoulda been easier.

  1. i gloriosi says:

    thanks mate

  2. doogmac says: is their “new” site site i believe

  3. C3P1 says:

then how did henrik sedin win the hart trophy last season? he beat crosby out by, what, 3 points? and scored 30 more goals than him?  I agree with you that toews is the sexier name, but people view him as an offensive juggernaut, which he is not.  the american press is doing their best to bring kesler to the forefront; the first sports illustrated hockey article in a month was centered around him.

  4. TomNickle says:

But when he doesn’t have the Sedins flanking him he’s seeing the oppositions’ #2 line, which should, but won’t work against him in consideration.

  5. SeriousFan09 says:

Kesler will probably get it this year with Datsyuk out to injury this long.

    – I shall always remember Captain Koivu. Habs and Hockey.

  6. C3P1 says:

ryan kesler is superior to toews in almost every category, including blocks, hits, goals, shorthanded goals, and points.  he also plays on a better team, which usually helps.  I think he will run away with it

  7. TomNickle says:

Toews’ faceoff percentage and takeaways alone will win him the award.  The award almost never goes to the player most deserving.  I feel that Pleks is a better defensive player than Staal, Bergeron and Richards but he won’t get consideration due to his lack of star power.

  8. Somethingwithhabsinit says:

I know who hates that trade: Florida and the Islanders, as they own the 2 second round picks we would have in 2011.

EDIT: Just noticed you never mentioned 2011, that was a poster below. Little quick on the draw, my apologies.

  9. king ddd says:

as much as like fisher. hes a bit overrated. i dont like the idea of losing webber, since hes been good in last few games.. if p.gautheir wants a forward and wants to spend money and trade our assets for him, then i think he should really go for someone big (iginla, backes, clowe.. i wouldnt mind steve downie aswell)

  10. Keith says:

Nice little TSN feature on Tomas Plekanec where Brian Gionta pays him a big compliment. He truely deserves Selke Trophy consideration.

  11. tony d says:

Here’s a site that gives a pretty good summary of the whole UBB topic and what we can do about it.

  12. Bill says:

Contact me at the email I have on the site is not working!

  13. moser17 says:

it will also mean less (affordable) hits to, which is crucial to Habs fans without RDS 🙁

  14. habs4ever2894 says:

Doubt it would happen , Fisher is signed through 2013 and i doubt ottawa would only want Maxwell , weber and a 2nd especially because we are in the same division. He is also a center and all of our centers are looking comfortable right now.

  15. DearyLeary says:

Nope.  I don’t understand what people see in Mike Fisher.  On top of that, Weber’s a roster player right now, who replaces him on the back end?

  16. Rugger says:

I sent you a message about the tix

  17. Bill says:

Anyone live near Boston? I have three tickets to the Habs-Bruins next Wednesday, Feb. 9 and cannot use them. Section LOGE 8, row 19, seat 19-21. Contact me through through the site if you are interested.

  18. HabFanSince72 says:

It’s a statistical fact that 33% of RJ  Umberger’s goals have been scored against the Habs.

If he gets traded to us his goal production will plummet.

  19. SHUTTemDOWN says:

Another start by the Auld-man-out…Is there another way out?
    Maybe Gilly in goal?

  20. The Teacher says:

Kovalev should shut his mouth and try to play with some heart.

LMAO @ the laffs signing Brown.

  21. andrewberkshire says:

    Nope, not at all.

  22. Harani says:

Plekanec for the Selke? For sure! Here’s the TSN clip mentined below where Gionta, Spacek and JM talk about Pleky:

    “It must be love!”

  23. TomNickle says:

Not happening as long as Kesler, Datsuyk, Toews, M.Richards and Jordan Staal are playing in the NHL.  Staal isn’t worthy but he gets credit for defensive ability because he’s a big name who can’t contribute offensively.

  24. Robert L says:

I don’t look at it that way. How the teams perform defensively will tie in to the vote. Those players are Pleks competition and he’ll need to outperform them as two-way players. Staal missed too much time to get votes this year, Chicago is not strong enough defensively to merit Toews winning, and presently Montreal has better goals against than Detroit. Kesler and Richards will figure in, but my vote would go to Patrice Bergeron. Plekanec will only have a ligit shot should the Habs tighten up big time in the goals against dept from here on. Currently, they are 6th best, 15 GA back of Philly, and their PK is seventh. Both stats will figure in for Pleks.

  25. Bill says:

Still pretty pumped about last night’s win! Hope they can dig deep for another big one tonight.

Auld needs extra protection, so hopefully the D and forwards are conscious of who is in nets tonight!

    Full Breezer 4 Life

  26. SeriousFan09 says:

Until Plekanec works his faceoffs into the 55% territory he isn’t getting a shot at it, I think he should get on the final ballot but there is no clear idea in hell about what makes a guy a Selke candidate anymore when you look at the yearly balloting for it. 1/3rd think it’s an award for the best 2nd-line center scoring, 1/3rd all just picking the guy on their team beat and 1/3rd vote based on reputation.

    – I shall always remember Captain Koivu. Habs and Hockey.

  27. Mr.Hazard says:

    From Stu’s article:

But there’s a nagging sense the Heritage Classic is a burden for the league, an obligation to the sport in its birthplace that won’t bring them any tangible benefit in U.S. TV ratings, sponsorships or merchandise sales. Canada is a mature hockey market and the growth possibilities in the U.S. seems to inspire the league far more.

    Couldn’t agree more.

  28. C3P1 says:

and toews is flanked by either hossa or kane every night, with patrick sharp and one of the 2 aforementioned wingers on the “second” line for the hawks.  I would think that teams don’t always play their top line against toews’ unit (in fact I know they don’t), because they really have two top lines.  toews is a terrific player, one of the best centers in the game in every way, but kesler is having a better year for the better team.  therefore, he will (and should) win the award.

  29. OneTimer says:

Right on dude, same to you! The Habs community truly is international 🙂

  30. i gloriosi says:

help… urgent.. streaming needed seems to be a problem with other options pls

  31. Rainrocket16 says:

    I predict 3-1 Habs tonight!

    Go all out or Gomez!

  32. TomNickle says:

I don’t disagree, but what you have to realize is that this is a name award.  The sexiest name gets it.  Toews will run away with it because he strikes into the heart of American fans, much like Staal.

  33. Rad says:

I would not trade Weber. He is emerging as a legitimate NHL defenceman, and will form an important part of the young nucleus that will be instrumental in the Habs’ future success, along with Pacioretty, Eller, Subban, Price, and Pouliot. All 6 of those players are untouchable, IMO. Weber’s emergence likely means that the Habs will not re-sign Wisniewski in the off season. Unlike Wiz, Weber has had no significant injuries, is a better skater, and has just as good a shot from the point as Wiz — not to mention the fact that he will cost way less money.

  34. andrewberkshire says:

Stu Hackel has it exactly right.

  35. ShangaDoo says:

Feed seems excellent so far…hope it works

    AK46 couldn’t tie up Dick Duff’s skates.

  40. sidhu says:

Video of the huge Umberger hit on Seabrook — I’d love to see RJ in a Habs jersey, but doubt it will happen:

  41. SHUTTemDOWN says:

    Kristo’s winter walk-a-bout… Crack-ish?

  42. Max_a_million says:

When they showed Cammy skating yesterday, he was incredibly ginger with his shoulder.  He isn’t close to being back.

  43. StevieRay says:

aaron  Ward ..genius !  bring back Panger …

  44. Mr.Hazard says:

    Ol’ Auld’ll ‘old his own vs.’is ol’club.

  45. Hockey Socks says:

If PG decides on trying to acquire a big forward instead of a defenseman, R.J. Umberger is the prototype. Strong, physical, and a regular 20-30 goal guy. He’s in the prime of his career right now and could be a huge addition to a team like the Canadiens.

  46. Rugger says:

As will our Goals Against average

  47. Keith Anderson says:

My hometown newspaper Grand Forks Herald article regarding Kristo.  Heard rumors of this two days ago and that he was drunk.

If they all had the heart of Saku

  48. PeterD says:

I feel bad for Danny Kristo…frost bite is no fun and if it is bad enough he may have to have the toe (big toe)and maybe more amputated to remove the damaged flesh in order to safe his foot…without a big toe on one foot could seriously impact his hockey career. Bummer.
Hope the kid is going to be OK…

  49. habs001 says:

with the trade deadline approaching it will be interesting to see what the habs do…since the beginning of last year our line up has shown that it fits into somewhere in the  22nd to 25th spot in team scoring in the nhl…to change this we would need to add goal scoring forwards that more likely will not be available in a trade….i believe the decision will be made that if we add any players it will be to bolster even more the defensive aspect of our game..our strong points are goaltending, team d,d and pk…we have to get even better in these areas..we need the pp to click so it helps out our lack of scoring….

  50. Ian Cobb says:

    Shoot out to Mike Boone—

Any chance to put the picture up on the site tonight that I sent to you today, to share with the HIO gang. There is still a couple of players in the picture that I do not remember. Who knows them all.?

  51. habs4ever2894 says:

add phillips and Umberger and this team is a contender…..

    To Montreal:  D Chris Phillips

To Ottawa: 2nd rd pick 2011

                    F Ben maxwell

    To Montreal : R.J Umberger

    To Columbus : Andrei Kostitsyn

  52. clichabs says:

Seabrook was only on one leg at the exact moment he was checked – no way he gets pushed around like a minor league 160lbs rag doll like that – Umberger ain’t THAT strong!

Then, did you see how close his skate came to hit Umberger’s face, that would have been ugly

    My 2 cents

  53. hab_skill says:

    Anybody like this trade?

To Ottawa: Ben Maxwell, Weber, and 2nd round pick

To MTL: Mike Fisher, 4th round pick

  54. PeterD says:

Booth from Florida for AK46 and a draft pick
Knuble (UFA) from Washington for a 2nd rounder,

  55. habs4ever2894 says:

off topic , but does anyone know about this usage based billing that canada is putting into effect in march? Im interested in knowing more about it but too lazy to do the research . I find that its a suitable topic on this site because it could mean less hits for habsinsideout .

  56. DearyLeary says:

I see someone’s feeling generous tonight.

  57. DearyLeary says:

Alex’s hand gets tired from endorsing all the cheques he’s been signing.  It’s why he’s not performing up to par… and he’s got a really big handicap.

  58. gmd says:

Enough about Kovalev.  I still fail to see the attraction about a guy who showed up maybe 20% of the time.

  59. Exit716 says:

    Dear Alex,

No one cares why you left Montreal, except maybe you.

    Thanks for chequeing in again.

  60. bigjames says:

off topic but just want to wish all HIO readers happy chinese new year, Kung Hei fat choy! it is new years morning here in hong kong, first day of the year of the rabbit. prosperity, health and silverware in june to the habs!
