“it’s what they do,” Brian Gionta said.
The Canadiens captain knows his former team well.
The New Jersey Devils contest every inch of the ice. They clog the neutral zone. They collapse back to minimize scoring chances on their goaltender.
Spot them a 2-0 lead and it’s a very steep uphill battle.
I’ll have more later on, after thinking about it during play stoppages in the football game.
Just don’t let’s freak out.
The Canadiens took six of a possible eight points, through two gruelling sets of back-to-back games.
They’re in Boston on Wednesday for a HUGE four-pointer.

F the Devils, they’re everything that is wrong with hockey…zzzzzzzzzzz. 3rd game in 4 nights, blah blah blah…
Is it just me, or was the highlight of the Super Bore watching Cameron Diaz feed Alex Rodriguez popcorn?
way to go PACKERS….yup.
hey mike boone..whats up.
***Subbang!!!***
Not a huge football fan, though I do watch a game when I can. Had to miss the Super Bowl, as a computer malfunction last night knocked out about 12 hours of work that I needed to have done by today.
That being said, can somebody explain how anybody could cheer for Ben Roethlisberger under any circumstances?
Although it’s true that the Habs have trouble scoring, their strong defensive play (and goaltending) usually helps them win games. Unfortunately, the Habs fell behind early and they were up against a team that also plays a very strong defensive game. We lost. Big deal. We’re going to lose a few more before the season ends. Many good teams will.
Very true. But when Price has an off night the team needs to score to bail him out though. The Habs have done that few times this season.
WAY TO GO PACKERS WAY TO GO !!! WOO WOO WOO
Steelers fans singing “Theres a tear in my beer”
Sucks to lose but on the bright side we only have 3 regulation losses since dec.31st. A couple of early blunders in our own end and a bunch of golden scoring chances blown on our part was the difference in the end.
Not a big NFL follower, but I’ve always liked both the Steelers and Packers. My thoughts go out to Boone right now. I wanted Steelers to win just for him.
Boone, it’s been a bad day for you — the Habs lost, the Steelers lost, and Chantal and I got engaged during halftime.
I wonder. Do you think Timo is a Packers fan?
***Subbang!!!***
Not a bad game really. This is what I saw…
I’m sure the coaches will watch video of this game to learn how to counter this next time so no real need to worry. That said, if I were the coaches or GM, I’d be screaming about the quality of the reffing and asking why Jersey is still allowed to get away with that obstruction crap.
No matter what, if I’m coaching I tell them file it away as a learning experience and look forward.
So will we hear from Boone before Wednesday? Or is this a 24-hour-mourning-period type of situation?
don’t get me wrong, I don’t think anyone should cheer for him either… but it’s the same way we’d cheer for Price 9 months after he had a publized sexual encounter with a 19 year old… the victim never co-operated with authorities, so Roethlisberger was never charged with anything, and nothing was ever proven one way or another.

I feel sorry for Eller having to play with 2 cheats Gomez and kostitsyn This is not a good way to teach a young player how to be a team player.
In five years, one can assume the Oilers will be an elite team whereas the Flames will look an awful lot like the Toronto Maple Leafs–if they don’t already.
I’m still shaking my head at what CGY is trying to do, they don’t have the assets to rebuild on the fly and are missing a chance to rebuild via the draft lottery this season. Severe mistake IMO, they had an excellent opportunity to start a proper rebuild and maybe keep pace with where EDM will be when they get their hands on Adam Larsson.
- I shall always remember Captain Koivu. Habs and Hockey.
Despite their record the past ten games, you are quite right the future is not bright for that organisation.
They don’t, that’s why they have a 3/4 full arena on good nights and are the only team that can’t sell out a SCF game in their own house. I’m enjoying their decline, empty farm for Kovalchuk, Parise’s either going to handcuff them on the cap with his contract or walk and they have no answer for what to do when Brodeur retires.

I have to be honest. I stopped watching after the second goal. I told myself that my Sundays’ are too precious to waste on that style of hockey. I’m surprised anyone watches the Devils!
They Call Me Shane
First star Scott Gomez for speaking out against the crocks with strips. Same old BS Jersey loves to hock , hold and get away with murder and what is worst the Flyers play the same way now against the Habs . Just have 1 ref on the ice and same the 100,000 + a year. Why pay two idoits to do the same bad job.
Every team in the east has the flyers and devils on their “measuring stick” game… I am much happier fighting with them rather than the sens and islanders..

Although every loss feels like the end of the world, it is not actually the case. The Habs have been on a good roll, and the Devils and Flyers are our nemeses. No big surprise!
The strengths of the team remain the same: goaltending and team effort.
The weaknesses are the same also: The System, lack of size, injuries.
The playoffs are not a lock, but looking good, and anything can happen.

Bill, the Habs major weakness is a lack of scoring.
Habs Passion unites us all
I am no better than anyone else. Except whoever directed the Superbowl half-time show, I am better than him.

C’mon Bill, you are better than Habsopukely
That last comment made me laugh a bit too hard.
AKA The System, Priceberg.

I agree, I wonder how much they had to pay slash to whore himself out like that?
Perhaps I have a Hellfire reverse jinx
Boone.. We better get our kleenex ready.. This is ugly…
Green Bay F. Packers…
Yes they have, but not having thier best in the lineup will take it’s toll on them.
Habs Passion unites us all
Good enough to make the imagination run wild, thats for sure.
The team has performed remarkably considering the officiating, injuries and schedule. Don’t you think?
NJ won this game but won’t make the playoffs. I’m soooo sad for them.
Et tu Robinson?

**** Montreal, that’s what they’re thinking.

Just shovel that on top of the refereeing. Good stuff!
After the next 2 games, 8 of the Habs last 9 games will have been in sets of back to backs. What the hell is the NHL thinking?
I would guess in about 30 minutes give or take. Second quarter just started.
Hey Mike (or any other NFL fans) do you know around what time the half-time show is on? That’s the only part of Super Bowl we are interested in.
“Hey Richard, two minutes for looking so good!”
New Jersey plays a very disciplined team D with that nuetral zone trap that is llike throwing a wet blanket over the opposition. You never want to get down early in a game but against that team a one goal lead is a huge diferrence.
In the 2nd game of a back to back, even without travel we just looked tired and frustrated most of the game…If the game against the Rangers was about the youth stepping up, today’s game was about the elderly not getting it done. I thought Hammr and Spacek looks their age tonight anad it showed for some pretty long periods in our end where the NJD kept us bottled up and in our zone for what looked like two lines changes of their forwards…Kind of scary to have their one line wear the D down and them thow out Kovy and his line to really put the pressue on.
I think this is where we still need to make a move soon for a younger stud of a D-man. Maybe things will get back together when Wiz comes back. I would like to see the geezers mixed with stonger young players the way they were when we had Wiz with Hammr, Webber with Spacek and Gill with PK.
Yeah I know the reffing sucked in a major way today, but what are you going to do? The game has always been won by scoring more goals than the other team, and not by crying about poor refereeing.
Boy I hope we get Cammi back soon well rested and really motivated to take the scoring on for this team…we really need his scoring touch to return and for him to be hot for the final drive.
Shakespeare mon ami.
