Michel Bergeron nailed it on L’Antichambre:

You can win with an AHL lineup at home. But it’s harder on the road.

Especially when your banged-up lineup is playing the third game in four nights.

Especially at Madison Square Garden, where the Rangers play the kind of smash-mouth hockey the Canadiens did not have to deal with against Tampa Bay.

Brandon Prust set the tone off the opening faceoff.

Biff! Baff! Boom!

In 18 minutes, the Canadiens were down 5-1 and Carey Price was watching the game from the bench.

Should Jacques Martin have started Alex Auld?

The backup goaltender was excellent in relief, but the Rangers took their foot off the gas pedal.

When the Canadiens closed to within 5-3, New York cranked up their forechecking again and it was over.

Should Martin have called a Timeout to slow down the Rangers’ early onslaught?

Might have been a good idea. But the coach is not a great one for TOs.

Martin has a chance to bounce back on Saturday. The team will get into Minneapolis at about 2 a.m. and there’s supposed to be a practice at noon.

The team battled hard.

Most – not all – gave it everything they had.

I’d like to be a fly on the wall at practice.
