So it’s pretty funny to hear all the Habs fans in there (which the CBC won’t mention, clearly) booing when Cammalleri was held in front of the Senator’s net and there was no call.
But it’s funniest to hear ALL of them boo Kovalev – Habs and Sens fan unite for a common cause?
Hrudey is a great analyst and I thought he broke down the play pretty damn well. It’s not his fault HNIC told him to break down our failure. It’s also not his fault that Plek and Gill totally gave up on the play.
HNIC is NEVER positive when it comes to the Habs. The hatred from them is very apparent.I think they thoroughly enjoy getting their digs in whenever they can.
Glenn Healy won a Cup in Madison Square Garden, yeah and so did Christobal Huet and remember Marc-Andre Fleury’s lights-out goaltending to win the 2010 Gold Medal for Canada?
Call up Weber already to play the point on the PowerPlay. Even if he only plays 6 minutes ( powerplay only), this guy can help. 1 more goal a game is the difference between a win and a loss.
Serves KovyII right for signing with the NHL’s most boring team. Just like Wayne Rooney shall find out, there’s more to being happy than money. One is much better off taking a slight pay cut for a far better situation.
If he’d signed with LA and at a more reasonable length they could’ve made a serious push this year in the playoffs, going deep. Now he’s going down with NJ’s failing team, not all about money Kovy, you’re going to wish you’d won something in 15 years.
I don’t understand why people think that was such a great shift for the sens. Sure it was in our zone but they couldn’t do anything. they had nothing on us. Couldn’t even put the puck on net. I bet we could play in our own zone the rest of the game and still win this one with ease.
O’Byrne has a one way contract and I am thinking Picard has a two way deal. If that is indeed true then I would imagine Picard goes down when Markov gets back in the lineup. If they both are on a one way then PG has some tough decisions to make.
My highlight of the night is how Dean Brown is COMPLETELY ignoring that the building is 80%+ Habs fans. They’re singing “Na Na Na Na” and he doesn’t even mention it.
Even that senile old boob Bob Cole would have said *something* about it!
You’re crazy if you think a two way contract means Picard will be sent down. He’s been fantastic. They’ll eat O’byrnes contract in the minors before they send Picard down.
If they send O’Byrne down they are guaranteed to lose him on waivers when he is recalled. So the Habs lose a player and are stuck with half his salary to boot. PG will trade him before sending him down if it come to that.
Roman….I know I’ve been hard on you in the past. But please, PLEASE, pay attention. You just got caught too deep, AGAIN and gave up a 2 on 1 while on the powerplay, again. We’ve seen this movie before, it doesn’t end well.
Last time Price was this close to a you know what you put the puck and Price through the net eliminating the you know what.
That makes no sense – unless they’re going to trade him to LA. But that makes no sense either. Can they save his cap hit by sitting him? Don’t think so. Strange…
Trade him to NJ for Kovy, Gomez knows the system in NJ. Not sure Marty and Kovy is a good mix. One wants to play offensive hockey the other super D to pad his stats.
I went with a bus tour from Montreal to Ottawa for tonights game so I’m loving the comments about how loud the fans are. As far az I can see it’s a majority habs crowd in here. At the start of the game when the lights were off before player announcements they had a spotlight searching the crowd and I made a joke that they are looking for the sens fans. Gotta love it!!!
The color commentator for CBC was saying he spoke to Martin about the power play, and Martin explained the Habs need to get more shots on net and players in front to create traffic.
How many bloody times have we heard that refrain?
————————
Nigel Tufnel: It really puts perspective in things, doesn’t it?
David St. Hubbins: Oh, too much. Too much fu*king perspective.
It means you must have missed the 10,000 watt smile after he scored his second goal of the season. Granted it flashed on the screen for only about a nanosecond, but he certainly smiled in that game too.
Gotta laugh at the Devils. What a bunch of F-ups they are this season. Win 3-0 in Montreal, scratch Kovy at home, lose 5-0. How many players did they dress tonight anyway, 14?
Buzz around the net with some intensity and good things happen!! Let’s so hope “My Dinner with Andrei” keeps this up all year, he’s looking great so far. Also hope that opens the floodgates for Benny!
The problem is that only ONE line is scoring. Without Cammy scoring some goals and the G&G line doing something it adds up to trouble. Ottawa is brutal, but any decent NHL team will target the Pleks line to shutdown. Leaving who to score?
We are playing well, even though Ottawa is a bottom team. We are skating hard and Price has been there when needed, along with his posts. Halpern is coming along nicely.
I wish the Habs hadn’t shown up with that pathetic effort on Thursday night. It would have been nice to really stick it to NJ. They’ve been sticking it to us for 20 years.
“thats the story through 40 minutes” What are you talking about, MacLean? Didn’t say a thing about the game. You know it’d be different if Ottawa was up 3-0

Kinda feel sorry for Lou because I think ownership forced his hand on a deal he would have never made on his own. Love that KovyII is tanking, because Karma is a Bitch. LA was a perfect fit for him in so many ways but he went for the money. The funny thing he could easily have made up the difference in endorsements in LA.
I just wonder what kinda changes will happen in New Jersey if they dont make the playoffs. with how they have been playing lately, thats deffinately possible,
Wow…Benny scores, Andrei scores TWO, and Price so far pitching a _________ (word censored because of foolish superstition). Also, (at least) 3 posts for the Sens behind Price…the hockey gods are on our side tonight. The thing is, we pretty much know what to expect from the rest of the team…but if these 3 mysteries get it together, we have a good shot this season, and beyond.
Really, the whole team looks great. Especially Pleks, but also (in the surprise/revelation category) Picard.

not sure if the gorges shot was intentional but alot of these plays are done intentionally, the bottom yellow moulding on the boards kicks the puck out pretty hard.
First shutout since Remembrance Day 2008 – congrats Carey on a perfect performance! Ottawa didn’t put up much of a fight in this one, but you still have to make the saves, and he kept ‘em all out. Wooo!
So that’s all ya got tonight huh? Sure you don’t wanna point out how Price was playing too deep in his net or has consistency issues? And yeah his posts played a strong game, no doubt, but so did his glove and his blocker.
What exactly does Lapierre bring to this team? He can’t kill penalties, he’s not talented enough for the power play, he doesn’t hit. If his name were ThePeter, would he even be playing in the NHL?
————————
Nigel Tufnel: It really puts perspective in things, doesn’t it?
David St. Hubbins: Oh, too much. Too much fu*king perspective.
I didn’t support the idea – just threw it out for discussion. The only consistency here is your smug nastiness. Why don’t you go off on Fisher and Todd again – or have they finally drawn the line clear enough for you? Grow up.
Why doesn’t JM see what nearly everyone else is seeing? Gomez and Eller should trade spots, ON MERIT! What happened to earning your ice time? I guess that only applies to young players.
I know Saturday games start at 7:00 but have all our weekday games always started at 7:30 or is that new this year? I like when the game starts at 7:00.
Did anyone notice Jaques Martin slapping that fan on his way to the dressing room after the game? Granted, he was just slapping the fan’s outstretched hand, in a “gimme-five” type of motion, but still, this kind of interaction with the fans has no part in today’s game.
Ottawa looked terrible tonight, someone missed a wide open net on their pp and they screw up 2-1 and 4-2s somehow…only decent players were fischer and alfredsson.
A nice bounceback win for les boyz with no flaws. I have a feeling Cammalleri will break out again soon. He started off with a bit of a drought last season but as an experienced goal scorer he knows how to handle these cold streaks. Good for Benny to get the goal, here’s hoping it sparks another near goal a game scoring streak like when he was first acquired. Gorges is definitely better with those one timers this year. Eller did look more involved when playing center.
For stretches of the game I thought they were playing at the Bell Centre with all the cheering for the habs’ goals.
Carey Price has been very impressive so far this season, in both his wins and his losses!!!! He still exudes a certain youthful naivete, if only that he’s still fresh, however he has this new attitude and demeanor. This non-statistical intangible is the difference maker with the kid and as it is a head thing tied into his maturity process and his learning curve the prognosis is for him getting better still. It’s early to jump the gun and 7 games do not a season make, but 1st impressions are good so far.
Price and AK46 looking like superstars. It bodes well. Get Markov back and who knows? It’s not the strongest division, they could be in a dogfight with Boston all the way, get lucky and get the third seed. Could do it easily if the GG line can be resuscitated.
Great game – what a treat to see some skating and shooting after that yawner vs. Jersey Thursday night.
OK – I have a suggestion which should cause some conflict of opinion.
Hamrlik to Ottawa for Kovalev. They’d love to get rid of him and might eat Hammer’s 5.5 million contract to do it. We’d take back 5 million and have a winger for Gomez and Gio.
I wouldn’t do it. In my opinion, depth on D should only be given up for a better forward. In other words, D-men are more valuable than forwards. Remember when we traded Chelios for Savard? Both great players, but Chelios would’ve done a lot more for us than Savard.
This was brought up the other day…and I think it’s a good idea – if Pouliot doesn’t get it together. I hope this goal tonight opens the flood-gates. He needed a confidence boost.

Maybe most of us ”get” it, but just don’t find it funny?
Go into a bookstore. Pick up a book called something like “1001 Hilarious Jokes for Kids.” Read it. You’ll “get” what it’s trying to do. It’s trying to be “hilarious.” It’s probably not succeeding.
I just don’t take it so seriously Mike. I don’t like it when anyone goes off the rails as Timo and others have done in the past. Timo rants and flings negative comments with his own touch of sarcastic humour, usually, and that I don’t mind. To each his own.
we cannot just wait for markov to get back….people forget that when he came back last year he was hot for a while but than he hit the wall and had 2-3 weeks of very average play which included bad passing mistakes and some very poor pinching decisions .. we really have improved the 5-5 scoring so far but because of the terrible pp we are tied for 23rd most goals scored…still way too many forwards on the team that score a goal evey 10 games…
On paper this should be an easy week rather than an F. week. The Senators’ defence and their goaltendiung are vulnerable, the Coyotes are without Shane Doan, the Islanders are supposed to be a weak team weakened by the loss of two of their key players (but they keep winning), the Panthers are rebuilding… But we have no powerplay and our second line is struggling. We need the points because the standings are tight and it looks as though it’ll go down to the wire this season like last.
For my money Boston is the best team in the conference. I’ve watched the Caps and am not impressed. They rely too much on individual talent and don’t play well as a team. Haven’t watched Philly, but they’re not winning; maybe their goaltending situation is catching up to them. As for Jersey, even though they shut us out, they looked pretty terrible doing it.
We have to find a way to stay with the pack until Markov gets back. If his return doesn’t ignite the powerplay, we’ll have to do something about it, like sign Bergeron. I know he’s a defensive liability, but we’ll be fighting for one of the last couple of playoff spots, and with no powerplay to speak of, we don’t stand a chance.
Jane – Settle down! We are NOT going to sign Bergeron. That would be a white flag for sure.
Let’s give Markov and Subban some time to see what they can do. If you sign Bergeron, it will mean two things. Either Picard or O’Byrne (maybe both) are gone and we will have no chance of having any size on our D. Do we really want to lose another young player based on a temporary, stop-gap measure?
Even if the Habs did contemplate that move, I would suggest that we bring up Weber instead of signing Bergeron.
It’s way too soon to talk about Bergeron returning. First of all, Markov hasn’t played yet and he’s an elite offensive d-man; his return should have a much bigger impact than adding Bergeron. And I don’t want Subban on the second wave, he has too much skills for that.
Bergeron is injured – recovering from surgery. Even if he were a good fit, how is a guy due to return to the ice by mid november supposed to replace Markov, due back much sooner?
I’ve read that MAB could be fit to play by around November 20.
Not MAB – not ever. Picard has shown more defensive ability in 5 games than MAB showed in his entire career. Then there’s Weber – 5 goals(?) in the AHL already. Even if Markov was going to be out for a long time, we have other d-men who can fill in far better than MAB.
Steve, do you really think Weber could help? He hasn’t looked so far as though he could, but he had a better camp this year, and he’s playing well in Hamilton. What if we signed Bergeron and used him sparingly on the 4th line and not at all on defence. I like our defence the way it is.

Jane – Right now we have a 23 man roster (including Markov). Let’s say we sign Bergeron. First off, he’s only getting offered the league minimum, or $600000 tops. Beggers can’t be choosers. That means that Darche, Picard or O’Byrne hits the road. Darche could go to Hamilton and probably clear waivers. No loss there. Picard is on a two-way but would probably be picked up by another team. O’Byrne would have to be traded as he can’t go to Hamilton for fear we would lose him. Let’s say that we then play Bergeron as a 4th liner so we can use him on the PP. That means we have to put Pyatt or Boyd up in the press box. Do we really want to do that? Not to mention that our 4th line becomes useless (just like last year). Signing Bergeron may solve a problem but it will also create another one (I refer to this as the Mark Streit factor). It also relates back to the fact that Spacek was going to be our Plan B on the PP and he has totally failed in that regard (he will be public enemy #1 in Montreal next year, mark my words) Weber? It’s really hard to say. On my dark days, I honestly feel that outside of Subban none of our young Dmen will ever become regular Habs (Tinordi’s not even on the radar yet). I think we have to tough it out until Markov returns.
Excuse me for cutting in here…..but, J. Martin does not know how to use MAB sparingly. It’s mind-boggling to me when people still look to MAB as any kind of solution. Too many nights screaming at the TV for me when we had Bergeron in the lineup. I can’t go through that again.
Yeah, I know Kovy has been truly awful for the Sens. And only showed up for half of the games when he played for the Habs. But he loved playing here, and would likely be motivated to come back. but in retrospect…I don’t think I’d do it…unlessthey threw in their first round draft choice.
But like said, I’d rather see Pouliot get it together.

The problem is that only ONE line is scoring. Without Cammy scoring some goals and the G&G line doing something it adds up to trouble. Ottawa is brutal, but any decent NHL team will target the Pleks line to shutdown. Leaving who to score?

Wow…Benny scores, Andrei scores TWO, and Price so far pitching a _________ (word censored because of foolish superstition). Also, (at least) 3 posts for the Sens behind Price…the hockey gods are on our side tonight. The thing is, we pretty much know what to expect from the rest of the team…but if these 3 mysteries get it together, we have a good shot this season, and beyond.

I’m glad your jinx didn’t work. I have Jaro in my office hockey pool.

You got there in the end, and that’s all that matters. Nice win, we’re all smiling.
Price and AK46 looking like superstars. It bodes well. Get Markov back and who knows? It’s not the strongest division, they could be in a dogfight with Boston all the way, get lucky and get the third seed. Could do it easily if the GG line can be resuscitated.

“Hey Richard, two minutes for looking so good!”
Any takers or a complete non-starter?
I wouldn’t do it. In my opinion, depth on D should only be given up for a better forward. In other words, D-men are more valuable than forwards. Remember when we traded Chelios for Savard? Both great players, but Chelios would’ve done a lot more for us than Savard.
This was brought up the other day…and I think it’s a good idea – if Pouliot doesn’t get it together. I hope this goal tonight opens the flood-gates. He needed a confidence boost.

GO HABS GO!

I can’t go through that again.
via Apron Basu’s twitter: Yannick Weber scores AGAIN, his 5th goal in 5 GP this season.
TB – I strongly agree.
Oh boy, time for another “floater” comment here Clay. But this one would reside in a porcelain bowl.
