One goal over 120 minutes.
Big win in Van.
I would also add, as crazy as it sounds Gomez would immediately become their number one center. Phoenix also has five forwards who will be UFA’s at seasons end, Gomez would fit nicely on that team. And they only have to pay him mega bucks for one year, the high cap number will never matter to that team.
They did trade a young goal scorer for Roszival. I can dream.
Yeah, but they’re not going to give them away. So you’ll take the picks and prospects, and you’ll like it!
Why no Zamboni?
A Gomez to Phoenix deal isn’t so crazy…they are desperate to make the playoffs this spring and are in good position right now. Adding a playoff savvy veteran could help them out, and the potential bonus of adding Gomez to a strong Latin American market in Phoenix shouldn’t be completely discounted.
And if the Habs are kicking the tires on Penner, maybe they are also kicking the tires on Horcoff. Freeing up Gomez’s salary would allow them to take both Horcoff and Penner, and the Oilers might be willing to deal the two of them for prospects and picks.
Not saying it is a good bet, but it is certainly the kind of deal I could see happening in this wacky trade season. Gomez, when playing to his potential, is a better player than Horcoff. Neither guy has lived up to their current contract, and Horcoff is signed for another year over Gomez at a savings of only $1.8 M. But if Gauthier thinks this is a year to go for it, that might be a move that could re-invent his top-6, gives Phoenix a “name” for their playoff push and frees up approximately $10 million in salary cap for Edmonton next season.
Habs going to go 2-0 in the outdoor games
Gomez to Phoenix? We can only hope. Arizona has a very large hispanic population and they’re trying to sell the game to that group. Gomez with his Mexican roots would be good marketing. They are trying to ramp up the game here in the desert, now that they’ve found a new owner.
Who would Montreal get back? Jovo is injured. Maybe a prospect, or Paul Bissonnette, a 4th liner who is tough as nails.
And Weber gets off free!
Gomez is hoping that playing outdoors in Calgary people will mistake his -18 for the weather.
Yeah, really. What a total jerk.
I really wish you were the coach of the team.
—Hope Springs Eternal—
i’ll watch this game outside…
thing is i’m in beautifull San Francisco right now!!!
gotta introduce some yanks to some hockey 😉
GWG = game winning gionta!
To get into the spirit put ice in your drinks! Hope you are enjoying yourself. I’d love to visit SF one day.
“Hey Richard, two minutes for looking so good!”
How would a team pull it’s goalie at the end of the game if they switch ends midway through the third period.
It would have to been during a stoppage, and it would have to be all or nothing.
Boone at someone’s house = George watching Breakfast at Tiffany’s at a family’s house:
i’d imagine they’ll start the third at their “wrong” ends to allow for that.
Some timely advice from the Calgary Herald on how to beat the cold while at the game…
You’re right. I’m sure that it has absolutely nothing to no with the Habs needing all of the scoring help that they can get.
Mikey, you’ve outdone yourself today.
Cammalleri gets interviewed because he’s a good interview. Beat reporters like guys who don’t say “I like going to the net and scoring goals, that helps the team win.” as their primary and only line.
– I shall always remember Captain Koivu. Habs and Hockey.
Funny how Mr. Rock Star Camallerri is in the spotlight for a guy that has been injured and thinking of playing all of a sudden in this Heritage Classic game. If I were Martin, let him sit.
Who wants to be in the media limelight more? Cammy or Subban?
“We will win the Cup one day only with ? in the nets “
Whereabouts are you at? Haven’t been to SF in too long……
So you’re the guy with the fake stache and giant eyeglasses to hide his true identity that answers to “Boris the Janitor” at the Bell Centre.
It all makes sense now.
No too many guys on our team could say that line without laughing.
Yup the Subban- Camallerri Wars.
If only you guys knew what goes on in the dressing room,
Anyways, enjoy the game everyone.
Chris Stewart? Yes, please. Maybe StL can be talked into a deal now.
Thank goodness Cammy and PK to like the spotlight. The media in Montreal have to have spotlight guys ..if not, they would chew them apart
he’s also played for both teams, so he’s theoretically a “sexy” guy to interview.
Or how about Wayne Simmonds from L.A?
What do you think?
They haven’t in the past.
Decent article on Joe Colborne from the Toronto Star:
Following quote stood out to me…
“Colborne has heard the criticism about his lack of physical play before but he has grown past it, literally. He says he’s added about 30 pounds since his draft year — the Bruins selected him 16th overall in 2008 — to get up to between 210 and 215 but he still looks like he has to fill out.
“I think it was a fair assessment of me two years ago,” he said. “But I think I’ve really started to bring the physical aspect of my game along. It’s kind of fun lately, since I’ve put on 30 pounds in the last two years probably, I’ve started to notice when I actually do finish checks guys are falling down. It’s a lot more fun that way than when you hit a guy and you’re the one falling down. Or you hit him and he just stands there. The results certainly make it better.”
Got me thinking about Max Pacioretty when he came up. One of the big knocks on him from Habs fans was that he was always falling down. I think you can see some of the why reflected in Colborne’s comments. It is a huge adjustment going from junior or the NCAA to professional hockey. The guys in the NHL are all so big and fast that the power forwards from junior really have it tough now. Look at the size of some of the league’s forwards…Ovechkin weighs 233 pounds, Kovalchuk is 235 pounds, Nash is 218 pounds, Getzlaf is 221 pounds, Franzen is 222 pounds, Lucic is 220 pounds…there are some monsters out there.
At 6’2″ but only 196 pounds, Pacioretty might still have some more bulking up in the strength department that he can do, which leaves me optimistic for his long-term potential as a power forward in the league. I’m pretty happy with what I’m seeing from him this season, especially his new-found drive to get to the net so consistently.
Formerly known as Camel_Larry.. ‘Sub-BAM! What a hit!’ ..”No more Looser on this teams!!” – Canadienboy
I think the media would be better off interviewing Andrei Kostitsyn.
Brule will be a cheaper option than Penner — Brule plays an aggressive style and can hit. He’s now healthy. Getting Brule and Souray would be great in my view.
Yeah, that way we can have an even more undersized forward group and a guy who breaks his hand when he punchs people and isn’t worth his half-salary on re-entry waivers.
Funny how “fans” still can´t get his name right.
As we head into the trade deadline…
Who is hot over the last 10 games?
Who is bombing over the last 10 games?
So looking back, despite all the injury woes, the Habs have managed to put up a 4-4-2 record over their last 10. They have only lost ground in the Eastern Conference standings to:
The top 3 on that list are not real threats to make the playoffs, and Philadelphia is pretty loaded. To only lose 2 points at most to the rest of the Eastern Conference playoff contenders is pretty amazing given how poorly the team has played of late, and really demonstrates how hard it is to lose ground in the league standings with the shootout/OT point.
That being said, breaking out of their funk tonight would be a really good idea. No sense tempting fate! 😉
Go Habs Go! I am so pumped for the game it’s like the Super Bowl and Grey Cup! Go Habs Go!
Been a Habs fan since I was in 2nd grade and sat behind Patrick Roy at the Aud.
Eller has to pay twice? That sucks for him.
I’d love to have him, depending on what they’d have to give up..
I’ve been hoping for Stewart and Simmonds all year. They would have been awesome, they live together in the off season. Both add big time grit. Stewarts now not an option…I could see Simmonds fitting in nicely on the third line with Pou and DD.
“A fanatic is one who can’t change his mind and won’t change the subject”–Winston Churchill
It’s interesting…nobody seems to want the Wales Conference playoff spots (unless you count the teams that spotted the field too much of a lead), but the Campbell Conference is shaping up to be a real dog-fight.
Phoenix, San Jose and Calgary have all been on major tears of late, getting themselves into playoff range.
Is the Pacific the best division in hockey? Anaheim is the worst team in the division on 68 points! Dallas is in a free-fall and Richards’ injury all but means they are probably going to fall off the pace.
gomez has to be embarrased with his minus 18 … our next 3 worst plus/minus forwards eller, moen and moen have a combined plus minus better than gomez…
Good way to look at it Chris. Nice work.
Lanny still has three defencemen caught in there
That’s what he gets for being Danish.
My sister spotted Gomer and Eller having drinks Friday night together in Calgary.
The odd couple?
So does anyone have the LINES and D pairings.???
Very excited for this one! Got my wings, some Doritos, Pepsi (normally it’d be beer but as you can tell by the first two items I’m trying to stay trim LOL), and all the goodies I need!
Go Habs Go!
The Habs won their 1st outdoor game vs Edmonton right?
moen2 should be pyatt
Listen to that ass**** Healy! Somebody should take HIM behind the Stadium! God I hate that guy.
4-3 on the strength of a pair of goals from each of the great Yanic Perreault and the not-too-shabby Richard Zednik.
Who the heck picks out Ron McCleans sweaters?? His mommy?
Thanks ….. Yes & Theo was wearing his Toque ..LOL …
Price will need to play like an all star
Cammy leads this offence to 6 goals!
The jokes about not scoring should start right about…
Still one of the great iconic images of the modern era. Apparently it’s soon to be immortalized (again) in an upcoming Panini hockey card release.
Price is a TWO time All Star!
we NEED this game. period.
or else vancouver is licking their chops to complete the trifecta
Dang, I’m staying overtime at work, this sucks!
But I can watch online anyways… ehh hee hee.
So other that atdhe.me, what other links are good for online viewing?
If Gomez is going to Phoenix I’ll take Doan and Gormley please.
you can stream on cbc.ca or you can use myp2p.eu
oh, i almost forgot about cbc.ca… thanks Mats!
Yeah, but Wolski was in their doghouse. I don’t think Doan is in the doghouse.
They’ll be an interesting team to watch at the deadline and at the draft. They are almost all but in Quebec now. Don’t know how many of their current roster players will be excited about the idea of moving into that city.
The Cap number matters to them when they need to get above the floor.
Yes, I should have noted that, but that’s a plus in this case.
And what did Cammy do tonight? Absolutely nothing!
A friend of mine mentioned how huge his hands are, so now it’s all I can think of when he’s on camera. But seriously, the guy’s hands are massive, like he drank some nerve tonic and got gigantism of the hands. Or tried a male enhancement cream but forgot to wear gloves when applying.
Can’t call it a swoon if it’s lasted since December.
Actually that just means the refs are really bad at their jobs since they can’t make up their own minds.
Currently we sit in a spot…..currently flames dont…..Your question is not a valid one.
Hey Mr. Lahey, got the grass cut yet?
Time to go bowling!!!
It was game over when it was 1-0
FFS is this your only concern? Price’s stats? Who are you, his girlfriend?
Who would want to do that? However, do you *really* think that Pleks, AK, Gionta or Cammy are the key to the cup for this team? For me, at least 3 of these guys need to get upgraded. PG needs to come up with some sort of game plan to increase the size and skill of this team. This experiment is a grand failure.
This team should expect to be screwed over on a nightly basis. It’s been happening all year for some reason.
There was a time where we used to get calls like crazy, but we’ve been at a disadvantage every night all season long. I’ve never seen anything like it.
now that he’s laid claim to the job, there are more…haha
Turn out the lights this one is over. My advice is pack it up go home give Vancouver the two points This team was never ready to come out west.
& thats game?
all the habs need in the upcoming third period is PLAY IT SIMPLE!
no fancy crap, just shoot the puck and scramble.
Yeah, let’s go out and make a big trade so that we can mortgage our future in an effort to get 6 games out of the first round instead of 4, if we’re lucky.
Hope Eklund is right about simmonds or brown coming this way from LA after this game.
That should about do it.
Sometimes I wish I could not watch,
“It’s not an obsession, It’s a way of life..”
Brutal – just brutal.
Now is this gonna be a blowout?
Pull Price now. No need to ruin his stats ..
That goal was so offside it’s retarded.
Okay, now it’s good night.
I think the Simpsons are on now…
Think the Flames want to make the play-offs more than the Habs do?
Playing like it.
This must be the yearly swoon that the Habs seem to always go through. Bad timing.
Ummm what just happened….
Watching this team is like shaving with a 20 year old Bic Razor…..Dry!!
Ryan White played junior here, he should be fired up.
I think the most annoying part will be reading the media nonsense about the Habs’ lack of success on the Western swings. It’s always coincidental, of course — but that’s too good a Habs-bashing story to let pass.
Ah well. Let’s see what happens the rest of the way — and maybe the Habs should trade for a bit of luck, theirs has been rotten pretty much all year.
that’s all for me
Well, that’s the game. Sigh.
No one has been covering Bourque all game, why?
How is it coincidental that we always lose to the same teams on these trips? That’s like saying it’s just a coincidence that Roger Federer always beats Andy Roddick on a weekday.
Facking horrible offense. Disastrous defense.
Way to show up for the Classic Habs. It’s a classic alright.
I am just hoping now the game doesn’t end 8-0….
lol. it’s pretty clear this tool is a Price fan, not a habs fan.
A lack of size isn’t our problem. With Pouliot and Pacioretty playing the way that they are it has no bearing on a lack of offense, as illustrated by the Boston game a couple of weeks ago.
This team’s problem is the quality of defensemen beyond the two they lost for the season. Subban will be great and Gill earns his money. Wisniewski has been a nice acquisition but we can’t compete with Hamrlik being relied on so heavily.
We can’t expect to get secondary scoring with Moen and Kostitsyn flanking Gomez. The guy takes nonstop heat but he gets Kostitsyn who is as inconsistent as the weather and Moen who couldn’t score on an open net penalty shot as his wingers.
Why anyone expects this guy to contribute offensively with what he’s been surrounded with is beyond me.
I think size is our number one priority. Not just size, but size WITH skill. I forgot to mention Gomez in my list above. I am a big fan of what is happening with Pax and Pouliot (in regards to their emergence). Yeah our defence is lacking a little skill with all the injuries, but for me really what it’s missing is what Komi was early in his stay with montreal. Steady with a phyical edge. This team is unable to make other teams pay in terms of score, or in either end of the rink in the corners.
My feeling is that the strategy for building this team has been a failure. I hope to see a change in direction soon. Otherwise I fear another 7 years of this tripe.
The constant insistence by the media that the Habs are a bad team has a massive influence.
I couldn’t disagree more. Habs lack of size up front gives officials a justification when they end up on the ice as a result of a hook, hold, trip, check away from the play, etc. They can chalk it up to a 6’4 player up against a 5’10 player.
Let’s just recap the last couple of weeks for the Habs.
Nothing to Julien for two line brawls instigated by his team in the last 3 minutes of a game.
No suspension to Ference for golf swinging the back of Plekanec’s leg.
No suspension for the Horcoff cross check on Pouliot from four feet away from the boards.
This isn’t media related Andrew. This starts at the top.
Yeah I was thinking of teh same thing today, that he probably wouldn’t do much better as the GM of our team.
The original was much better though before the mod’s got to it.
I have written basically the same re the captaincy. It seems that we(meaning habs) cant make a good decision anymore. And I am not saying that it didnt look like a good decision at the time. It just seems like this franchise has lost all it’s mojo and cant get a break as far as decision-making. Nothing turns out for us anymore.
And just to recall, I lost faith in the ‘captaincy readiness’ of Gionta when he looked so foolish saying ‘never happened’ to the Price/Markov thing while even Carey was admitting that it did. He looked like a parrot for the organization and I said so then. Even if he had said “what happens in the room is none of your business”, it would have been a better answer.
And then of course the Gomez snub and Gionta’s apparent complicity didnt help.
Heheh. So this is your “sanitised” reply. Doesn’t have all the colourful words as the original!
Martin needs to be “promoted” upstairs right away – let Muller run the team till the end of the season. He’ll show some passion and innovation that Martin won’t use or doesn’t have.
No player should be safe from being traded if the right deal comes available. Gauthier has shown already that he’s too slow on the uptake – if he knew what he was doing he’d have seen this fiasco coming and made a major move weeks ago. obviously Chris Stewart or Eric Brewer could have been had as Gauthier has “everybody” to offer. The current group is going nowhere especially with no help. Go get Hemsky and pay what you need to -what an upgrade that would be -throw Gomez in for nothing and pay the bulk of his salary to get rid.
Idea for the Canuck game -bring in Curtis Sanford to play goal -Price is exhausted because of Martin -send him home to rest up for the Leafs. Auld can back up Sanford – both played for the Canucks and would love to try and beat them – of course the game result is a forgone conclusion -better Price isn’t embarrased in his home province. Forget the west trip and lets get going otherwise no playoffs.
I agree nova scotia vees, we have to clean house from top to bottom on this team or else we are going through the same cycle season after season. High expectations from the fans and early playoff exits which most fans here are content and that “better luck next time” attitude.
I thought you were the expert on the Hamilton Bull Dogs and all the talent on the team? So now that a significant portion of those great Bull Dogs have advanced to the Habs you’re saying that the same players you said were the future of the franchise last year are complete and total dog crap?
Is that your complete and total assessment of your beloved Bull Dog grads with the Habs?
I think our Hamilton Bulldogs would have put on a better show than these professionals who don the CH on their jersey.
It iss going to be a very long and turmoil season down to the wire with this team we have,
We need help big time and need to dump some of these salaries to ther teams and start realizing you have to be big to compete in this league.
Feel sorry for the Habs fans who dished out the big bucks to this game and going home disappointed.
There’s going to be more disappointing games more like this if Gauthier does not do something to bring this team back to respectibility.
Gauthier better start putting his thinking cap on.
Even with Markov and Gorges on our D, we are still weak.
And send Eller to Hamilton, where the kid needs to play more and more!
You’d think a team never lost a game before. As to Carey and his supposedly “NEVER steals a win” malarkey (and we all know what malarkey is slang for) get serious, man.
If it isn’t working for Kostitsyn, than it would never work for Kovalev in a Martin system. Unless the coach decides to make a paradigm shift, we are going forward (backward?) with the players we have.
Sorry – you get 2 out of 5. Kovalev does not suck – offensively. Gomer is not old, but he does suck. Hammer is old and he does not suck.
Kovalev is a free agent after this year. We would be on the hook for about one-fifth of his salary (about $1 million) and it sure wouldn’t cost us much, maybe a late draft pick. And – he might be trying to show something so he can get another contract in the off-season. So – all in all not such a huge gamble.
If we move for anybody it has to be a younger player, between 21 and 27, who is big and skilled, who will be with us for a few seasons. No rentals.
It is so sad to see this once proud franchise go quiety into that dark night. Rage, rage, against the dying of the light…..But oh no…players without heart or without a clue…and a goalie who NEVER steals a win, but is always praised as the second coming. It reminds me of the old fable about the Emperor’s new suit.
There are none so blind as those who will not see. Time to CLEAN HOUSE..TOP TO BOTTOM.
JM’s, and Muller and Pearn are involved in this plan you hate, plan is the only reason we have as many points as we do. This team is just plain worn down from having KEY injuries all season long. Even with a healthy team we needed pieces, why is it shocking to anyone that now that the chips are down we are coming up short….pun intended.
Kovalev sucks. The last thing this team needs is another old, over-paid player a la Gomez and Hammer.
What about Leighton? Sorry to disrespect Kipprusoff but he wasn’t a factor tonight.
Really good point!
Kipprusoff is not an “average” goalie…if the Flames didn’t have him, they would be nowhere and would be consistent bottom feeders.
After tonight, I wonder whose job is more secure..Jacques Martin or Muammar Gaddafi?
we need size we need SIZE…..like that movie that was made not too long ago:SUPERSIZE ME!
If you exclude the collective pride of Montreal Canadiens fans….
I don’t think “pathos” has won too many Stanley Cups recently.
He was talking about tonight, so was I.
How anyone can pin TONIGHT on Gomez I have no idea.
Don cherry looking like a taxi cab, cow boy, biggot hybrid?????“After 13 years, I couldn’t accept to be number two.“ Guy Lafleur.
ya at least he wasnt a minus but he has the WORST +/- on the team for the whole season….
….aye yaye yaye….
I wonder if the panthers will trade higgins for gomez…..in a heartbeat i’d make that move!
And also got:
Olivier Fortier (before Webber)
Andrew Conboy (hardly ripping up the AHL)
And what have they done?
“I only like to watch and takes notes” JM
The lasting image of the last Heritage Classic involving the Habs in 2003 was Jose Theodore’s tuque. I wonder what the lasting image will be of tonight’s Heritage Classic?
AK to LA for a first and maybe a prospect like Nicolas Deslauriers
Whose leg do I have to hump to get a dry martini around here?
If someone mentions the one goal in 76 shots statistic and then turns around and makes up some story to blame it on lack of size, lack of finish or any other deficiency of the Habs, I am going to scream. 😉
You haven’t captured the pathos Martin usually brings to interviews.
Every player on the ice has those same stats……at least Gomez wasn’t a minus.
This team needs to get healthy, and has always needed rienforcment.
Please Smiler, stop teasing me!!
AAANNNd on to the smoooth surface of GM Place, where there can be no excuses regarding ice surface, and where our asses will be handed to us courtesy of VanCan. Yes Calgary was hotter but who was more desperate?
Unfortunately this team cannot/does not respond to desperation. The excuses are compounding and the injuries do hurt, but who tha f*ck is stepping up? Knowing that every year this road trip comes along(so fittingly around the deadline) and we continually or appropriately sink to our lowest point of the year…What’s up wit dat?
Shades of Carbo and “09, except of course the brighter future prospects(see the usual suspects). Unfortunately JM is not in his position, although his methods should be questioned. He should’ve been wearing a hat so he could cover his entire head.
It’s obvious that they’re small….but they’re playing even smaller.
“The sh*t is CHESS!NOT CHECKERS.” Denzel W.(Training Day)
Jacques Martin press conference: “Mais… evidement.. we suck!”
get real bro! We aint getting rid of Gomez, who is gonna get him from us? seriously, who is going to take over such a salary? We are stuck with thee Alaskan!
AK will probably be gone! But what ever, It wont change what we are. Smurfs on ice, it worked last year but I think our pixie dust ran out!
With all due respect to Gomez, who has had a solid career and used to be a really good player, he is the one guy I wouldn’t mind seeing let go. For anything. In a cap league you just can’t have a guy eating up that much space for that little contribution. If Phoenix wants him and I’m GM, they can have him for a 3rd rounder and I’ll send them a Christmas card, just like Sather prob sends one to Gainey every year.
Cammalleri’s a sniper on a team that can’t score. I think he has to stay.
Full Breezer 4 Life
While Demers might never have won a Cup prior to 93, their GM that year was a man who knew a thing or two about winning Stanley Cups…Serge Savard…something which is lacking on Pierre Gauthier’s resume.
No, you rule. Line of the night
No, but there really isn’t anything wrong with shaking the loss off on the ice and on camera either, so long as he plays hard in his next few games.
Cammalleri is likely never going to be a captain of any team in the NHL…it just isn’t in him. He’s similar to Gomez: a bit snarky, a bit loose and sometimes gives off the aura of not caring enough.
But if he’s doing his job (scoring goals, getting his 65-80 points per year), we can’t really begrudge him too much. His attitude sometimes grates we fans, who want to see the guys take every loss as hard as we do, but you can’t really change who somebody is. And he was an awfully big part of the team’s playoff run last year, and few could doubt his commitment to the team.
Brian Gionta had 6 more blocked shots than he did last season and he was a PK player. This year, Gionta’s got 6 more (as a PK player) with 15 more GP. Just saying…
Larisa, it’s every team’s plan to get to the crease on the opposition goalie and to keep opposition shots from the outside. This isn’t ground-breaking. Having a plan and executing it/having the players to execute it are two different things.
Scott Gomez will not be a Hab tomorrow night (E7!)
You gotta get to the playoffs to show off that playoff jam.
Im laughing so hard i’m crying, thats awesome
Yes but what was interesting about the interview was that Tanguy told them their game plan.
Go after Price in any which way, because he’s the key. And since our D is decimated, they took advantage of that fact. As well he said they kept all our teams’ shots to the perimeter so as to protect Kipper.
And it worked.
Still watching this Antichamber and you’d think that Michel Bergeron and Mario Tremblay have all the answers and know better than anyone… a couple of NHL has-beens who never won squat in the NHL as coaches.
This kinda attitude just pisses me off to no end.
JL has the Devils on a 15-1-2 run in the last 18 games! Devils sucked under John McLean. Coaching is huge in this league. The JM system sucks, every coach in this league can out coach his stupid soft, boring and usless hockey.
Stay tuned, you never know…
I don’t call him selfish due to his shooting numbers. I call him selfish because he doesn’t do a thing on the ice to try helping this team win other than shoot. He doesn’t try to block shots, doesn’t try to beat out icings, doesn’t pick up opposing players on the backcheck. I don’t want him to change his game, I want him to do things other than shoot the puck.
You mean…lightning is about to strike twice?
Where’s Josef Balaj when you need him? Surely we have a Balaj-type rotting away in Hamilton that we can spare….
“Of course I’m crazy, but that doesn’t mean I’m wrong.” – Robert Anton Wilson
He deserved none. Softest Hab since Tin Man Turgeon. Incredibly overrated player – and the fact that he was signed so late and for so (relatively) little after the ’09 season reflects his true worth.
I think it’s just personality though. Subban and Price were also fairly friendly in the handshakes, and you know they’re competitive. Cammalleri doesn’t seem very competitive, but he did score a bunch of playoff goals last year, so he does have some jam somewhere.
The same can be said for a fellow named Jacques Demers back in ’92… and then he coached the Habs.
That’s been my hope all along. And sometimes, when you roll the dice to get some assets to replace your deadwood, you get a pleasant surprise.
Gomez and Kostitsyn are both potentially good NHL players in the right environment. The Montreal Canadiens are not that environment…everybody agrees on this, I suspect. So really, what is to be lost by dealing them and rolling the dice on somebody else, even a prospect, at this point? I honestly think Gomez might demand out this summer given how miserable this season has gone, and I don’t see the Habs keeping Kostitsyn past this summer. The deadline is the time when you can maximize the return on your own struggling assets, as teams overpay in their efforts to keep pace in the arms race of the trade deadline.
In my perfect world, the Habs look to deal Andrei Kostitsyn to Pittsburgh or Washington, both of whom I would guess might be interested in him. Send Gomez to Phoenix if that rumour is even remotely possible. And send Travis Moen whereever you can.
Send Eller to the AHL to get him some confidence. Because 0 goals in 40 games is not helping him or the team at this point.
Play the youngsters and see what they can do. Desharnais, Pouliot, Subban and Weber have been the engine of the team for the past month…let’s ride them and see where they can go so we can get some sort of idea of what we’ve got in them.
I don’t look at this as giving up on this season, but instead recognition that you can’t move forwards by stubbornly clinging to past performances.
And I add a Yep to your Yup.
WE MUST RAGE!!! AHHHGERREERRT AHHH ….man i just hate it when we lose.It literally puts a damper on my day and brings me down. What is it with this team?!I love em but i hate em.Anywho, back to the fridge for another beer…..hehe..
………..BRING on the Vancouver Cannots!!
You are one of the few who set me straight on a nightly basis when we lose and I get downright futile. Don’t get too down, It sucks for sure! But hell, now this Heritage fiasco is over we can concentrate on getting healthy and start focusing on a positive playoff mindset! Not to mention making some key adjustment at the deadline!
Slumps come and go! Champions are forever!!
Thanks! You rule.
Just watched the Antichamber show and they had Al Tanguay on, is it me or does Mario Tremblay have a massive crush on him?
Man, they love this guy, a Calgary Flame, cuz he’s french… and they showed him no love at all when he was a Hab (which feels like a million years ago)…
I do not defend any player I feel doesn’t warrant it. Cammalleri’s playing style can be considered selfish because he is a shooter but so are all snipers, they want the puck to shoot it, it’s how their game works.
Tired of people insisting ‘he’s got to change his game’ for every player whose style they do not like. They have success because it is their style, changing it would lead to less success.
9 goals in 91 games.
Totally agree, that was a bit much for me, that game, even though it was more spectacle, counted. And he and the team sucked, on National TV
I have a solid hunch that Timo hasn’t. He doesn’t really get it.
Did anyone see the Habs tonight?
Brief fit of rage in reaction to what I feel is a blind defense of a selfish player.
These heritage classic games are stupid, especially for a team like our habs. We have enough troubles scoring on normal NHL ice, and with that crappy ice I wasn’t expecting us to score any at all to tell you the truth. This outdoor game just handicapped our talentless team even more. And I agree with everyone here, JM needs to leave, before we lose another good coach in Captain kirk. Also, has anyone else noticed how gionta’s game has fallen off this planet since being named captain? All the things he was praised for last season, he hasnt done even half of those things this season. Absolutely pathetic!
never did i say they won the game cuz of the netcrashing, but you have to admit they were there when they needed to be. on the other side, I don’t know if a Habs player got within 10 feet of the blue paint. point made, smart**s. however, your quick ignorant retort to the original comment says alot about your state of mind and emotion
PRETTY BLOODY HARD TO CRASH THE NET WITH 5 FOOT FRIGGIN 6 DUDES !!!ITS NOT LIKE THE BOYS WOULDNT IF THEY KNEW THEY’D NOT BE DECAPITATED FOR DOING SO!DONT GET MAD AT THIS COLLECTION OF PLAYERS FOR NOT NET CRASHING WHEN ITS MANAGEMENT THAT PUT THESE DWARFS TOGETHER.
“I played the damn game” … we live in Canada, who hasn’t??
At some point, lots of shots with few goals means we don’t have finishers. 2/3 of the way through the season and the “bad luck” story doesn’t hold up.
Who’s leg do I have to hump to get a dry martini around here?
I have no idea what Iginla woud have done.
And don’t watch basketball or football, then. It’s a love-in after every game. And these guys are just as competitive as any other pro athlete.
I’m even into the Black Rum ….and my galss is now 1/2 empty .no support for Price again …. to much perimeter hockey by our boys
I’m not worked up over it and I didn’t play the game for a living. But do you think Iginla would’ve been all smiles if the score were reversed? They are professionals, and they have to smile at work sometimes. But I don’t think it’s appropriate to show that face in that moment.
Well that was a big waste of qu’est ce que phoque!
Did anyone see Pouliot tonight??
the flames weren’t crashing the net like crazy genius….odd man rushes and poor defensive play allowed them to win this game.
Good news is FLA, CAR, ATL, NYR are all doing worse than us lately, Wash not doing any better, and SOON we will be on our way home.
There may be other teams, but only ONE Club De Hockey…
im tired of watching ak and harmlik play. pg needs to make a move before the deadline. this team aint going anywhere
In some respects, being able to get over a game quicker is one of the marks of a professional. The game is already lost, there isn’t much to be gained by beating yourself up over it. Cammalleri is known as an outgoing guy, Gionta is known as a pretty taciturn guy at the best of times.
And like Twilight said, given the circumstances (first game back, former teammates, outdoor game), I think we can give Cammalleri the benefit of the doubt just a bit here.
And that comes from somebody who has never liked Cammalleri.
Dude can you fix the grammar in your sig?
Ha, still with the math blinders on? You’ve been saying “bad luck” for an awfully long time. Put away your abacus and pay more attention to what you see … your not going to score a lot of goals on the kind of shots the Habs take.
Another slump, no big deal. Hardly worth all the drama that goes on here. Man, some people live small, angry lives.
What’s he suppossed to do, cry, shoot himself, the games over, move on.
Kovalev never really wanted to leave and he has never been happy in Ottawa. I think he may have a resurgence if he came back. If he gets hot at the right time and plays with passion he could do some damage.
Yeah but did you play the game for a living? To some of these guys, it might just be a job. Which is why some players would rather play in Florida instead of Toronto, which is why some players don’t care to give intelligent interviews, and which is why some players might “yuk” it up after a loss. Not saying Cammalleri is or isn’t p!ssed about the game but I’m prepared to forgive a hard-working pro a laught after his first game back in a somewhat-historic game.
Tom, take a few deep breaths and don’t get too worked up over it.
Don’t tell me you have given up on Les Boys!! Hopefully we lose our black sheep!
I doubt very much that he’s happy after a loss, nobody is, but if I remember correctly he played for the Flames, so maybe he’s renewing aquaintances. Maybe if he refused to shake somebodys hand you’d be happy
If my math is correct than that means Scott Gomez earned $4,982.02 per shift tonight….lol….And worth every cent !!!
No, he’s supposed to congratulate his former teammates, tell them it was nice to see them again and hopefully be a little upset that his team just got embarassed on national television in a game where two points would’ve gone a long way to securing a playoff spot.
One more Scotch and I might sell the house in the morning! Better find a positive friend somewhere.!
Although we all hope, I can’t see Gomer gone before the summer. At this point, I’d love to see him gone for future considerations, even just for the chance to throw his $$ at Brad Richards.
Painful to watch this game, painful to watch us lose to the Oilers as well.
Thankfully we have time to make some moves before the deadline, and I hope that the Bruins’ and other teams’ moves will compel PG to improve our club.
Even addition by subtraction (i.e., getting rid of Gomez and AK46, somehow) would be amazing at this point.
I don’t get why Moen was skating with Gomez and AK46 when Cammy is back in the lineup, and why the Benny-DD-White line was broken up.
This is not a Cup contender. Hopefully PG can pick up some vale for some of our deadwood.
So, here’s one more team that knows how to deal with our dainty perimeter game. The number is rising rapidly. Wonder if we could just start conceding our Western swings, stay home and rest up for teams we might have a shot at beating.
NO MORE SELLING ASSETS FOR SIEVES!!!!!!
—————— Yes, I’m a Hab fan..Wanna fight about it?
double plus what most Canadians make in a year towing the line day after day.
This road trip has been a total Embarrassment and there was a time some one had to answer for such a disgrace in Montreal. When you have a coach that thinks losing is just no big deal then the players follow suit. A hot goalie and a Ali roppy dope syle got them two big playoff wins Then the Flyers came in and the coach didn’t know how to ajust. The Flyers had a has been goalie last year and the Habs were pathetic. This team needs passion and a coach that will stand up for the players. Turning point of this game was the two man advantage and a coach with his thumb up his ass. Foe Christ sake PG call Roy will ya.
Can it Robert. I played the damn game. You aren’t showing a lack of class by congratulating the other team but having reservations about turning the shake into Yuk Yuks. When we have a player that happy after a loss, I’m going to question how competitive he is and how much he cares about team success. I didn’t see Gill and Gionta lighting up the sky with smiles. And they were by no means showing a lack of class.
Movie time!! Every Saturday night now!
As for tonight’s game…<shrug>. We lost to the second hottest team in the league with a patch-work defence corps. No shame in that…the anemic offence is embarassing, I admit, but we’ve known that for a year and a half. There are pretty few natural scorers on this team and a lot of guys that are simply couldn’t score if their lives depended on it.
More and more, it is obvious that the team’s lack of scoring is a serious issue. But let’s give Cammalleri a couple of games to get his timing back before we write off all the forwards.
Did they stink tonight? Absolutely. Have the been bad for the last while? Yep.
But that happens. And I suspect more than a few of us were not expecting much out of this road trip. So take a breath and find something relaxing to do while you hope for some moves by Gauthier over the next week. 😉
Damn, the truth hurts
Give them a pic or a prospect – keep Price.
I gotta say though…everytime a story runs about Carey’s new mask, he gets shelled.
If I did not know this team was still in the playoffs (by conference standings), I would conclude this is a very poor hockey team. They may have as many SOGs as Calgary, but they have been outplayed in every other facet of the game. I cannot shake the feeling too many Habs still have a Kovalev mentality–if I get one or two shots on net, they think, no one will notice we sucked in every other way humanly possible.
Hey Boone, tell Josh that Plekanec still leads the team in points on the road.
I can’t. I am not a pro. And I am a goalie.
The Flames are able to crash. Any other team can crash the net against the Habs. Just telling you what I am seeing on the ice.
CBC compliments the Lightning on having a special discount for Season Ticket holders.
It’s easy to do when there’s 17 of them.
gee, smartguy, why then is Calgary doing it in -20? maybe you have brainfreeze?
Please Serious. When has Tampa Bay ever had that many show up to a game?
^What he said.
I would be, and am. You can quote me on it and bring it up whenever you want, there is absolutely no chance on this earth toronto finishes ahead of Montreal this season.
I see exactly the same thing I saw last year – a middling hockey team with good goaltending. That netminding could win us a round or two, but we lack both the top-end talent and the depth necessary to go four rounds.
We have one player whom you might consider a legitimate NHL first-liner in Cammalleri, and one (at this point) legit first-pairing d-man who is out for the year (and it seems every year) in Markov. After that, we have had to overpay for role players (Gomez, Gionta, Hamrlik, Spacek) who are given star-level minutes and eat up large chunks of our salary cap.
Our high draft picks are either unproven (Subban, Pacioretty), underwhelming (Kostitsyn) or non-existent. Pleks is a decent second-line player, but you aren’t going anywhere if all you produce over an extended span is one decent second-liner. And the other puds we bring in as fillers (Moen, Pouliot, Mara etc.) just aren’t good enough.
The above mentioned servicable role players and the fill-in puds will always keep us in the battle for a playoff spot. As a GM, this keeps away the braying critics. As a coach, JM’s stupefyingly boring system does the same. Win just enough to keep your job.
But as it’s constructed now (as it was last year), it is a team that has no chance to win the Stanley Cup, unless Price turns into a combination of Roy, Dryden, Plante, Durnan and Vezina.
Much more professional to be a pack of classless jerks and skip the handshake line like PIT did in their WC game right?
It’s called class, there’s no good reason for adults to act like children after a loss.
Habs are in a slump, Leafs suck, big difference troll.
As long as AK is gone by next week I am happy!
And what he said….
Like when he stopped over 40 shots in a 5-1 win on the centennial night?
Well I count the Flames with around 10 grade A scoring chances while the Habs have had around 2. I see the Flames crashing the net and digging in the corners more than the Habs. That’s what I consider a no showing.
This kind of observation also tends to be heavily influenced by the final score, unless you do it systematically.
Which is what Olivier at enattendantlesnordiques.com does. I’m curious to see his scoring chances counts. I expect Calgary to come out ahead, but not 4-0’s worth of ahead — and the Habs are in a serious rough stretch in terms of converting their own scoring chances, too.
The good news is if we’re lucky we’ll get to face the Flyers in the 1st round.
Well that SUCKED IMMENSELY!!!
Do you reckon that this debacle will spur Goatier into action?
The inaction under the premise of “mortgaging the future” when the 2011 draft is very thin is somewhat of a joke.
Same old story, frustrated by a hot goaltender and they fold.
Iginla doesn’t seem to have a problem with Subban, maybe the rest of the NHL should take note.
Nice to see Cammalleri laughing it up after a 4-0 loss. That’s a leader!
“One goal over 120 minutes.”
What’s especially significant is this: one goal in 76 shots.
I’m sorry, but that’s just plain bad luck, even allowing for the possibility that their shots were of lower quality.
2007 draft was considered thin, we got Pacioretty, Subban and Weber out of it.
What a brutal game. They didn’t look too upset shaking hands. For a team on a horrible skid they really do not seem to care.
I’m not looking forward to Vancouver on tuesday night. It could be a bloodbath!
Closer and closer to my wish; Philly in the first round. Get it out of the way quickly.
no no no we make the goalies hot.. like seriously we dont challange them at all
“After 13 years, I couldn’t accept to be number two.“ Guy Lafleur.
Good night fellow habs fans, Like many of you, i will try not to stick my head in the gas stove and light a match,
He would also be more effective on this team is they had him playing the propper game for a vet his age and not logging huge minutes and putting him in game situations that he is not built for at this time in his career. It’s called propper coaching and management.
That sounds a lot like “Halak is the heart of this team”. Not saying you said that but it’s just as unfounded.
a goal a goal , my kingdom for a goal.
He’s one of the Habs biggest forwards.
The habs excel at making goalies look good.. see NYI 18th stringer the sabers 3rd….
If MTL had Markov and Gorges his TOI would be different, it’s not like the Habs have had a perfectly healthy blue line or other guys who can easily take his minutes.
FYI – They are getting very solid crowds this year. Season ticket holders are about 8000, too.
ask and u shall recieve…4 zip
C’mon people, 3 quick goals and the Habs are still in this.
Good job, Moen. Way to pick up your man.
what a pass! gosh darn
A brutal Price Turnover,
This bad stretch needs to not make us lose track of the fact that this is the best the Habs have been in 15 years — at least in terms of carrying the play — and that quite besides still being on pace for over 96 points, their record is still lower than it should be if they had more puck luck.
They’re better than Boston, and Boston thought (foolishly, IMO) they were two guys away from a run.
Any ideas Boone ?
What happened is other teams have figured out how to beat the Habs. They also figured out how to win games against them.
Josh should look at the team’s splits home and away. They’re probably all terrible. Their percentages on the road really suck (which is more happenstance than actual deficiency, mind).
I wouldn’t be so sure Andrew.
Yea, this game has moved into the respectablilty zone. Ain’t gonna win, limit the embarrassment.
Our new rallying cry!!!!
“Limit the embarrassment!!”
lol..its funny cause it’s true.
These guys suck ass tonight. Not worth the bother, sad to say.
Let’s make a big trade to insulate this group with a player like Penner or Klesla. HAHA.
SELL SELL SELL
Sell Hamrlik, Spacek, Moen, Pyatt.
to trade or not to trade that is the question………whether tis nobler in the mind to suffer the slings and arrows of outrageous fortune or to arm against a sea of trouble and make a trade ………
Ouch, Habs are in free-fall. They need to put together a winning streak FAST or they’ll be on the playoff bubble in short order.
A losing streak is no big deal. What is bad is how helpless they’ve looked doing it. They never drive to the net, make bad plays in the neutral zone, and lately are terrible on D. Needless to say, they never hit anyone.
This team is equally in need of some miracle medical cures and a makeover.
Nice pass AK, emulating Gomes are we
SOO any one wana take bets on the habs swinging a deal tonight??
No show? They’re outshooting the Flames.
Typically, “no show” in a game like this is in the eye of the beholder. The teams play relatively at the same level, one maybe a bit better than the other, as is typical for a NHL game. But then one team can’t buy a goal, another team gets all the bounces, and the game ends 4-0 or something like that.
Because we’re deeply conditioned to believe the final score of the game is reflective of the level of play and the level of effort — even though that is not the case at all — we think that the team that is behind 4-0 must be sucking. But a score like that, usually, is a matter of percentages… ie. luck.
I think so. You might notice that they change sides at the 10 minute mark of the 3rd period.
Being an outdoor game, is there a distinct advantage to starting at one end of the rink or the other? The sun may be in the eyes of players/goalies more at one end. The condition of the ice and the wind could also be factors that come into play. That being said, has the placement of the teams been predetermined or will there be a coin toss? In fairness, if there is any distinct advantage, a coin toss should decide.
I don’t care what it costs on the P/L, I would send Gomez tp Cinncinatti. That man is just plain useless and a drag on the spirit of the rest of the squad.
Hamrlik should try the KHL next year, with a 56-game regular season maybe he wouldn’t be dead on the ice by this time of year.
what whoa weird they are switchin ends half way thru third?Cool.I was thinking that the whole night and they are doing so.Its only fair.
Do you know who we need to play in this type of game ????
Serge Savard, he would flip that puck in the air and since the sky + puck are dark Kipper would never see it. Obviously after 10 straight goals Calgary would pick up whats happening and beat the crap out of him. But it might be worth a shot.
This defense needs a makeover. Thank god Hamrlik’s contract is retiring.
Markov, Gorges, Subban and Weber. Stick to this core. Sign a UFA d-man. Try to add Yemelin.
Forget about Wisniewski, Spacek, Picard and Hamrlik.
Your point is valid but Enroth is miles better than Lalime and would be a starter on most NHL teams.
It’s getting there.
tanguay ah ……….the unkindeth cut of all
We may well be looking up at them yet before this season is done.
Cool story bro. Your idiocy is more entertaining than this game.
No chance on that one. Game definately OVER!
oh yeah for sure.. but i just think that when markov went down the team should have made a move then to try and replace him as best they could with 1-2 d man. Honestly wiz is not that, then they wouldnt have the problem of over playing older vets.. you can see how worn they are just by looking at their play..
last i checked 20 guys make a team.Not 1.
Hamr couldn’t hit water if he fell out of a boat
Kovalev. for Price.
I hate to say this, but I’m beginning to think Habs won’t make the playoffs. I didn’t think I would say that this season, but there is just no hope on O and the D is in shambles. Hoping I’m wrong…
Not being a professional athlete, I just can’t understand how a pro team can no show on a stage like this? Every outdoor game has been competitive until today.
Look at how Flames crash the net.
None of our guys can do that. Maybe Pacioretty. But the rest are all pussies.
true it… its easy to stop shots from the boards with no one in front ..it one part of the habs game that kills me.
Wow this team is rollin’ right now.Love the way we are playin right now.Keep it up Count!25th cup be looking like a sure thing now.
Yannick Weber is our best defenseman.
I wonder what the Kostitsyn turnover count is at for this game,
Who the hell would want these players? Not even the Leafs.
Maybe you can crash the net at -20* C…..hmmm…
Very disappointed in the overall effort and competitiveness of the Habs, both in Edmonton and again tonight.
We look like a team that is just trying to finish off the regular season, while talking about which golf course to report to early.
This game tonight is all show and no go. There are more bumps in a ladies curling match.
Embarrassing and Brutal. O well, we will be healthier next training camp in the fall.
They have quit on me, I never quit on them.
Next year Gauthier!! Is J. Martin still going to be your guy.?
Where are all the people saying we don’t need any trades at deadline?
This is PAINFULL too watch….like I said a long time ago,SIZE COUNTS! Argue with me now ,ouch!
No one says don’t need, people are saying we shouldn’t mortgage the future in a year we’re unlikely to make noise.
you cant blame martain that much i mean for all quirks about his coaching style .. the fact remains this team cant score.. and the lack of goals makes the defence look worse than it is.. and if the goalie doenst stand on his head they loose. The coach cant put the pucks in the net for them. If anything his system of coaching is probally responsible for a fair share of this teams points..becuse they have won A LOT of one goal low scoring games…
hahah i am not even getting in to that but you know i would much wrather have kovalev right now than ak.. at least he can score if you set him up..
I am looking at J. Martin moving upstairs.
No One goes to the front of the shoot and turn back to play defence so wonderful.
Moen on line with scorers, that take away a wing.
1 minute left and No Cammy???
If he feels like it
Anemic, Pathetic, ?????
If we get in.!
Well that much we can agree on lol.
The only action I wanna see is Goat and Martin GONE!
This team is pathetic.
I myself am considering drug overdose. Frying my head seems a dreadful way to croak.
I have been hearing people suggesting this for awhile, yet what has the Count ever done as a GM? Nothing, just like he has as a coach.
I don’t think we will even get in now Punkster.
Come on!, size is overrated! It’s not our lack of size, it’s just “bad luck” and “fluke” against us…pffft!, yeah right.
Gomez….TOI….19.47 SOG…….ZERO…. $97,000 per game….makes me want to puke!!
Cammalleri knew those guys and had an outstanding season with them in 08-09, why be hostile? It’s because he raised his profile with them that he’s a Canadien today.
No.! just one scotch to many.!
we play much better at home…this year the habs have been one of the worst road teams i have seen on the road …even in games they have won…we have not enough scoring from our top forwards and not enough from our bottom forwards…the middle group is okay..eller,moen,pyatt combined have 7 goals…the bruins have thornton with 8 kelly now 12 and campbell 9..
That’s very likely why I put emphasis on this. I don’t like Cammalleri, I read and hear that he’s competitive, I don’t see it. I don’t see a guy willing to sell out for the team. I see a guy who makes Gomez look like a captain. I sure as hell wouldn’t be happy if I were his teammate or coach. Nothing wrong with shaking that loss off in the room and off camera Chris.
You must be new to the site! Welcome!!
Number of Stanley Cups Pierre Gauthier has won after all his years in the league=0.
Number of Stanley Cups Jacques Martin has won after all his years in the league=0.
I suspect both their records will remain intact after this season.
Ah the rookies. They are so precious, aren’t they?
Man, it just never changes, does it Bill? Lose a game and someone has to take the blame, lose a couple of games and it’s the coach/GMs fault, lose a few games in a row and it’s the whole team, coaching staff, management and owners who should be hung, win a game, two, three and the whole process reverses. Up and down like a toilet seat.
Let’s have your predictions on who gets traded. Everyone says Gomez and/or AK. He’ll have to give Gomez away to get rid of him so that would not be a trade.
I’m gonna go bold on this one and say that Cammi will be gone in return for a young promising guy and a pick.
no, you d’man.
Exactly, this isn’t tanking, this is understanding reality. Losing Markov and Gorges would be akin to Phili losing Pronger and Timonen, the Bruins losing Chara and Boychuck, the Red Wings losing Lidstrom and Rafalski.
There’s no shame in not being able to win the cup without your two best defensemen. Where would Nashville be without Weber and Suter right now?
Way to show up for the Heritage classic Habs. I understand that you’re injury riddled but c’mon..allowed 37 shots…got outchanced like 10-1 in odd man rushes. Thanks to Price this wasn’t 10-0.
Actually I wish that we would have lost 10-0. Maybe it would have sparked Pierre Gauthier to pursue a big body forward (couple actually). No, not just a rental but for years to come. It doesn’t have to be this upcoming trade deadline as the price will be high. But over the off-season certain changes are necessary. The truth is, that until the Habs don’t get some big bodies – they will continue to get pushed around. Just like against the Flyers in the Conference finals last season. This team lacks depth, so it’s critical that the Habs top scorers do what they’re expected to do – score. Our scorers cannot do that on a consistent basis. That is why the size issue is constantly brought up.
Ladies and gentlemen size IS an issue. Not saying that any individual in the NHL that is short is a bad player. Of course not, it’s quite the opposite actually, shorter players tend to be better players in this league. But the Habs have assembled way too many undersized players on just one team. These guys have skill – but they cannot crash the crease. They have speed – but they cannot agitate the d-men by screening the goalie. Just way too much perimeter play. Habs need size up front. Like it or not.
I am not going to talk much about the D, because this is the result when you have two rookies and three 36+ year old d-men. Losing arguably, your top 2 dmen on the back end was a major blow. And our vets cannot constantly plug in 20+ minutes every night. Their bodies just cannot adjust to the heavy work-load, which makes them even more vulnerable to get injured. Lidstrom would be a bad example, he’s a horse and can probably play till he’s 50 years old. That being said, the defense was pretty brutal. They made my inner-Timo come out. But I am going to suck it up for this season. All I know is that this team needs to re-tool in a lot of areas in order to beat teams like Philly on a consistent basis, not just every odd game.
Best of luck going to Vancouver, Habs.
Right, because someone wants him? You’ve had too many Molsons (e5)
Specially when the market is overheated and places unrealistically high values on veterans (gomez), role players (moen, halpern, spacek); and young-ish rfa’s (ak). those players could collectively net us two firsts and a middling prospect or two. not to mention opening up $13m in cap space.
You forgot “small”.
Exactly. Our team looked like they couldn’t even remember the gameplan.
At least no one got hurt.
Just suck it up and send Ottawa a 3rd or 4th rounder for Kovalev. At least we’d have a chance to pop a few – and the rest of the year might be fun to watch.
TRADES WON”T HELP THIS TEAM. JM’S SYSTEM SUCKS. HE HAS TO GO!
Haha, so true. For me it’s not the loss, but being shutout, and making average goalies look like monsters.
It’s almost like he takes talented players and drills the offence out of them.
I agree. Red Light Racicot would have shut out the Habs tonight. Calgary may as well have given their ECHL goalie some playing time.
Gotcha, and you’re definitely right on that..we certainly have a habit of making bums like Leighton et al look like world beaters. And yes, Kipper certainly didn’t have to work tonight for that shutout.
My dear gawd man you’re not blaming Price ??!! Without Price this year we’d be fighting the Oilers for 30th and we’d win
the star spangled banner is still ringing in my ears.
Halley’s Comet will make an UNSCHEDULED appearanc.(E7!!)
Seriously.. and I am being very very serious. If Phoenix calls tomorrow and offers you a 6th to 7th(does it go that deep) draft pick for Gomez, you wont take it.
I am asking cause you said 3rd round pick!
Who said I was an expert? I am like Jacques Martin, “watch and observe.”
Players are expected to develop properly on the farm before being promoted.
If not, it;s a disappointment and it;s now happening more and more on our once proud franchise.
Don;t point your finger to me, point your finger to Trevor Timmins.
Why hold the NHL accountable Steve? Who do you think these people are, responsible journalists of some sort?
Wow. Is he going to be ragged on for daring to breath the same air as us next? I’d love to see any of you naysayers do that job. Not a single player in the NHL would have a clean record for long.
I hate that shmuck.
love how the storyline according to CBC from this years winter classic isn’t a caps win or a pens loss, its a crosby injury that actually happened the next night, lol
Some of us care that his son plays for a division rival and they aren’t held to the same standard as the rest of the league BECAUSE OF THAT.
What 2nd line, we have one first line and three 4th lines
Good news is that at least the Habs aren’t giving points to direct competitors in Eastern Conf.
Unlike your mother! Oh snap!
I’m in ‘habs are getting smote and as a result my dignity/sense of pride and shame has shrivelled up and died’ mode.
yeah they think it will crack under the weight
How about asking him why the Islanders were fined $100k and had two players suspended for 9 games each while the Bruins escaped unscathed?
Who’s contract will be the bigger albatros for their respected team, Pleks or Bautista ?
Poor work by the crew in charge of making the surface than, rather unimpressive for a supposed prestige event.
hahahhahaahh travis moen is the ANTI GOAL!!!!!
Gomez behind the net, Moen in the slot, Oh Boy
Funny analogy considering that where there’s smoke there’s fire.
Um aheemmm…Sorry Pat Sajak i don’t wanna buy a vowel,i’d like to buy a friggin goal!!
SCORE, WORTHLESS CUD!
GAH… NOT YOU, FLAMES!
Formerly known as Camel_Larry.. ‘Sub-BAM! What a hit!’ ..”No more Looser on this teams!!” – Canadienboy – I LIKE CAPS LOCK
Someone on cbc mentioned earlier it was to prevent from cracking under the weight ?? It must have cracked yesterday or this morning. It makes it hard to watch with all the bounces…
We have a first line?
How many times have the Habs been shut out this year?
Hard to watch now
HAHA, I thought of that after I posted, EDIT: 1 3rd line and 3 4th lines
Hammer has been one of our best defensemen this year. He , like Gill, have also been great mentors. Hammer is not the problem. We expect to much from him.
They have been shut out five times thus far this season HH.
There are a lot of head hits that aren’t intentional. But it is a fact that the Bruins did exactly what the Islanders did and received no discipline while the Isles(who are in the largest financial peril of any NHL team) were fined $100k and had two players suspended for almost a quarter season.
Many people sh*ting on Moen but what do they expect? Having him on a scoring line speaks more for the coach and/or the rest of the team. It’s not his fault.
He is one of many problems right now.
I don’t think it’s too much to expect to not get caught up ice 6-8 times a game. He’s not quick enough to keep up anymore, and the last few weeks have really exposed him. Great guy, solid player while he was here, but his time is up.
I have no problem with Moen, I like him as a hockey player and on the team, but you’re right he shouldn’t be on a scoring line.
1) The Bruins said after the game that they planned to do exactly what the did in the final moments if they were winning.
2) It doesn’t matter if Campbell meant to use his elbow pad (I doubt he did), continuing to fight while a piece of plastic is being used as a weapon is an automatic suspension, ask Souray. Not to mention a goon like Campbell going after Pyatt is about as classless as it could possibly get.
“Can anyone on this team score?”
Not this year, unfortunately.
Nice to see Campbell busy reviewing potential supplementary discipline tonight. I mean, nice to see tickets that you and I pay for go into flying him to Calgary and paying for his accomodations for the weekend.
If they even score one I’ll be shocked.
methinks is. hes limping off again, hasn’t stopped since, really. :'(
NO HAPPY ALLOWED!!
Ok Vader :p
3 goals in a period is a bit of a fluke result, anyway. It’ll happen or it won’t, probably not, especially with the Habs’ luck, but really, it won’t so much be a question of talent (or *snerk* desire).
How do they dare interview that crooked POS?
On the bright side, Mara has looked alright out there
No effort at all from the Habs, I’m calling a shutout.
It’s unfortunate that you don’t recognize. This team would be soooo, sooooooooo bad without Plekanec.
Time to sit Price down and give him a rest for Tuesday. The whole team sucks today.
Common game. I’m sorry Andrew but this kind of game is more normal for him than anything else. Especially when you get by game 40 of the season.
Moen in the slot, with his stick in the air for some unknown reason. I love Moen on the 4th line and PK, but on the second line? No way.
Good job Roman, lose your man, he goes to the net and the only reason it isn’t 4-0 is because the puck is bouncing like a rubber ball.
not. Thank god
WTH IS MOEN DOING ON THE 2ND LINE?
Geez – it has NEVER worked.
Is the issue with not being able to use zambonis is because the ice is too cold or they didn’t make the surface thick enough to support the zambonis, anyone know?
Ice isn’t stable enough.
I’m sorry, but you didn’t ask Colin Campbell about head shots and concussions?
Learn how to do an interview.
As far as I am concerned that sort of thinking is in line with 9/11 truthers. Zero real proof other then some emails taken out of context.
God…this defense. Ugh.
Very suprised that the Jays decided to give Bautista so much money. A big time gamble. Pleks on the other hand was a safe bet. Pay midrange -> higher end money for an IMO average player. The Bautista move is bold, i’ll give it that.
Hamrlik loses his man again with bad positioning, and continues dragging the team down today. One of his worst games as a Hab.
The game is becoming too fast for Roman Hamrlik. This should be his last year.
I dont think it’s so much that, than as it is so damn cold. there is only so much they can control, it’s hard to maintain a playing surface that is up to NHL standards in an environment 40 degrees or more colder than a standard NHL rink
I dunno man. I prefer to give people the benefit of the doubt. Same with alot of these so called “targetted head hits”, IMO many of those hits and not intentional. I get alot of rage in my direction for that as well.
Colin Campbell is Building #7
Travis Moen hands of stone
I know you think that, Tom, but I don’t agree.
Perhaps Colin felt that the Bruins game was a “heat of the moment” blow up? Considering that DePietro KO from earlier in the month I think it’s easier to see that the Pens/Isles game was more pre-meditated.
However he would have put many people back in his court if he had suspended his kid for the elbow pad thing, even if I don’t think he meant to do that either.
I’m fully convinced that Sid actually suffered a concussion in both of those games.
And really, even if it was a game that rivalled Habs-Red Army ’75, the best player in the world getting injured would be the big story, far and away.
Yeah I do remember the Souray thing with his hand brace. Colin F’ed up not suspending his kid.
Who knows what Pyatt said or did to get that beating? We will never know. If it was nothing then yeah I would def think less of Campbell JR.
You make a good point. But 30 goals a season from a big player will help us more than AK’s shots into the goalie’s chest…
But, we’re the ones skating with loads in our pants!
I watch a ton of Oil games. Penner is much like AK when it comes to potential -> effort level. Be carefull what you wish for.
This outdoor game sucks. In fact all outdoor games are a waste.
I hate our west coast trips.
I hope we get Penner.
I hope we play better against Vancouver.
I think I might be completely done with AK.
Paul Mara is bigger than I remember.
WE REALLY SUCK WHEN THE OTHER GOALIE PLAYS WELL…
It’s all fun and games until he takes out someone’s eye with those gesticulating hands of his….
Joël Bouchard sounds like he’s coming down with pneumonia.
Well we know he’s not going to catch frostbite the way he waves his hands around.
Always glad to eat a slice of humble pie if the circumstances dictate.
No no gumpster….me ball was clear up until we tied it at 3….Honest!Well you will just have to see and watch and then come back for an apology which i will be waiting for.
I see Lafleur is your fav. We need to talk one day!
start of 3rd now…THE COMEBACK IS ON!
Singing in that cold would be uncomfortable for anyone, agree on song choice. Stadium Love is obviously appropriate, but one like, Monster Hospital would have been better for the first song. Agree that Vancouver is a better game for analysis, of course we want them to win this one because the points are needed and the large audience watching
YOU are correct sir.
Agreed. You could even hear Emily say how bad Help I’m Alive sounded. It wasn’t really the best song choice but whatcha gonna do.
How in the world did they ever get popular?
….better believe it yo,cuz thats just how we roll.
yeah i totally agree with you.. And we should try and move AK as much as i would like them to be able to move gomes i dont even know if thats possible. He drives me crazy on a nightly basis, but at the same time he is a set up guy and i have seen him set up guys a few times the past few games but i mean really what can you say when your putting the puck on the sitck of moen and AK who cant score if their life depended on it …….And man there are no set lines whats with JM and the constant shifting of the lines?
Keith – Trust me there’s a lot to be said for drinking. Same goes for weed.
“It’s life, and life only”. (Dylan)
Exactly. Again the only player we have that anyone wants is PK. And he BETTER be untouchable.
I’ve been to one of their shows actually and while their music isn’t really good, they at least know how to play for an audience.
The problem is the only guy we have that anyone wants is Subban. And if Gauthier trades him I am done. At least with PK we have hope for the future.
So everyone sucks on our team? I hope our team wins 4-3.
The comments tonight are giving me a headache. No offense fellow HIOers. I’m shutting off the computer.
Just in case for later….1-800-HLP-TRLL
Believe me I am not hanging this on Price…..this team would be nowhere without him……like I said the biggest thing that has derailed this season is no consistent offense and Markov/Gorges gone of the year. PG should try and trade AK, Gomez, Moen for some good prospects and some picks.
I think that if the Habs can pop one early, it may be the turning point of the game. It will lead to a comeback victory and set the team on an 8-game winning streak that propels them ahead of the Bruins. We will then look back on this game, and the rally, as the turning point of the season.
She usually sounds a LOT better than that live. I was actually surprised by that performance…pretty brutal by Metric’s standards.
Wrong song choice for a stadium, too. They have some somewhat rockier songs that would have gone off better in such a cavernous environment.
As for the Habs, I’m not too upset. I think this game is a bit anomalous, given the crappy conditions and so many guys coming back from injuries. Vancouver will be a better barometer of how they’re doing.
I’m with you both on that one
For those who are not enjoying Metric’s sub-par performance, Lenny Kravitz is rocking the house at the NBA all-star game.
When hockey managers start listening to fans, they often soon become them.
Yeah I saw them in an open field basiscally in Toronto (Downsview) and the sound was much better. Kudos to them for playing in what is extra frigid when you’re holding a guitar or drum sticks, not being able to wear gloves
“On Jan. 17, Calgary came back from 4-0 to force OT at the Bell Centre. think that will happen here?”
I don’t think Calgary will need that kind of performance.
Keeping track of turning points and “Biggest Games of the Season” now by the Commentariat, we’ve had approximately 17 Turning Points this year and 31 Biggest Games.
I know this game is going badly but we need to stop using terms like Turning Point so liberally.
Hehe…she’s about as far from a redneck as you can get.
I love our fans, now we are trashing the entertainment, we rock
If only we could…
It’s official: this team needs help. Let’s hope Gauthier has his finger on the trigger of something good.
It’s not just the bad ice of this game, or the injuries in the last few games – there’s more going on than that. The team can’t score and the defence has gone south. If we go into the playoffs like this, it will be ugly, no matter if it’s Boston, TB, or Phil.
Specific to tonight: Hamr sucks and Wiz is a nightmare. Weber is running around. Every mistake leads to a 2-on-1 which leads to a great shot or goal. No hunger in front of Kipper, and this game is all but over. Let’s get thru the next 20 mins without injury.
I think the Habs should start petitioning the NHL to cancel all future trips to Edmonton, Calgary and Vancouver, just put 3 Ls in the standings and not bother to make the trip out west. That will save some wear and tear on the players.
The Sabre loss will end up being the turning point of the season. That was a sure win that they let get away and they have not been the same since. I think they collectively realized that night that they are just not very good and cannot overcome the loss of their two best defencemen. I suspect it is going to be a brutal collapse from now to the seasons’ end.
What an embarrassment this team is to the CH. The defense sucks but granted half of them shouldn’t even be playing. Price has been average over the last 2 months or so and finally the offense is pathetic and as been all year save for a few games. PG better not sell out the future next week so we can squeak into the playoffs to get our asses handed to us by Philly or Boston.
I love Emily Haines…mmmmm
did you see that guy punch his friend in the ‘nads?
So Auld in for Price to inspire the comeback? It worked for Calgary when they came to our house…
hahahha funny stuff!
I’m with you.
They need offense. PG pull the plug on the Kovalev trade already.
Mara is not causing any curse words to be said…
because he’s having such a good season…with better defensemen…haha
That is correct Gumper
They should’ve kept Halak.
Oh boy. First the Habs train wreck and then this brutal hipster trash. My ears!!
Eller is one of the few who seems to have his heart in the game. AKost is brutal. Every time he’s responsible for the puck he turns it over.
Having seen Metric a few times live, let me just say that the sound set-up at McMahon Stadium is terrible. Yuck.
Except for a few short spells in the second the Habs haven’t shown much effort.
No doubt…go back to da trailer park singer girl whatever ur name is…grrr….what an awful sound to my ears…rather be at a opera watching fat chicks belt out high pitch long azz sounds than this redneck. But she’s kinda hot.
Chris – I’d rather hear the American Anthem again! (BYW, another low point for Canadian society. Just like the Summit 20).
Man, this game, and this team, is just breaking my heart. Time to clean my clubs.
this music is HORRIBLE
Trade AK for Bourque, for the third period at least!
Too many passengers on the Hab ship right now. Can you book ’em Danno? Please!
Gauthier can’t make a trade that brings Markov and Gorges back into the lineup people. Stop asking for a trade, I’m worried he might grant your wish.
I wouldnt try and hang this on price.. he’s started 53 games he is aloud to have an odd night. some goal support would be nice its amazing how this team cant score.. calgary has three chances and bam 3 goals … montreal couldnt shoot it in the ocean… its horrible.. not to mention the lack of net presence at both ends of the ice.. And ya know iam not apposed to PG making a good trade and moving a couple of assets because we have the depth to do that and if we dont take a chance once and a while then this team will be medicore for years to come just as they have been for the past 15 years. Iam all for a hockey trade. One player is not going to fix the situation but if you have the chance to make a good trade then you make it regardless. And for the record i think that PG is trying to make one of those deals as we speak..not rental but a smart hockey trade because this team is lacking big time.
At least the Calgary organisers didn’t book fu*king Nickleback for the show….
The Commentariat is not happy.
Should we go all Middle East on the Habs management?
Just a thought. Perhaps Boone could be our inspirational leader to a free and democratic Montreal Canadiens franchise.
Out with Gauthier! Down the Molson!
I’m glad to be drinkin. Takes some of the pain away.
As I continue to be a ray of sunshine:
A) Does ANYBODY see the habs scoring today..?
B) I hope the guy in the phaneuf jersey chokes on a hotdog and dies, just because. And every member of this band. and the ice crew. and scott gomez. and jack marty. and don cherry. and garry bettman.
When leading after two, Flames are 18-1-2. When trailing after 40, Canadins are 1-19-2.
Not to mention the all-around cost of flying there!
A democratic hockey franchise? No thanks, that would be the worst run sports franchise in sporting history.
That’s why I have never lost my love of the ponies. There are few hockey games that come close to being at the track.
LOL Not even a little bit close.
Definitely agreed about the game being anomolous, just sucks to lose 2 points.
Bettman is the evil one. Down with the weasel-faced dictator!
The way this game is goin I’m gonna have to go get more Stella.
How is that? Legs wide stance, bang on guitar, look intensely to the camera?
I think Jacques Martin’s message for the 3rd period will be lay back, play defensively, and not lose by more than 3 goals.
“Chill out” – Carey Price
Everyone goes crazy with all this ‘doom and gloom’ talk that seems to flare up every game the Habs aren’t winning. Just chill out.
The first two penalties in this game were shady at best. I’m not one who subscribes to conspiracies, but it seems like the Habs are on the wrong end of penalties far too often. How many PP’s did we have in the first two periods?
Regardless, we don’t have any control over this, so instead of freaking out, enjoy the 3rd period and have some faith that the team can turn it around, tonight, tomorrow or whenever.
Last year when everyone was crying all season long, the team made the conference finals. So ‘chill out’.
Losing to a bunch of guys wearing tan pans. What’s next? Thongs?
They look like big poopy diapers. And we’re losing to them anyways…
And people thought the Habs’ barber-pole specials were bad….
Thats why they play the games Booner
Newfie Dog was Priceberg?
me too….RICK NASH !!!We LACK an IDENTITY!A STUD.A HORSE.DONTCHALL THINK!??
I bet we could meet the jackets’ needs with a package for Rick.PG get ur azz or the horn to ohio dude.LETS make this happen.BE CREATIVE!
IM SO SICK OF THIS TEAMS CAUTIOUS APPROACH TO EVERYTHING…..grrr.
What do you want done, have Halpern start on the PP?
Haha, I like it!
To their credit, the players have shown this year they do not quit.
The momentum changed WAY before the goal, Robert. It changed when Hamrlik was way out of position and allowed the puck behind him, then didn’t bother skating for it when a Calgary player blew by him and got a breakaway. He was godawful and everyone else emulated him thereafter. As I said further down, PK was trying to make a play in a game we were trailing, that’s commendable, even if he screwed up. There’s a massive difference between a good hockey play that goes wrong and someone just being lazy as hell. Call a spade a spade.
Count me in!
Except…I am only 16..so I’ll need one of you guys to give me a ride haha 😛
What exactly do you think goes through the minds of Weber, Wisniewski, Subban and Gill when they see Hamrlik make lazy play after lazy play and yet continues to be spoonfed icetime?
I just hope they dont just mail it in in the 3rd, atl east come and try
I have become a fan of the Devils. Lemaire is a hockey genius and why his jersey has not been retired just escapes me. WELCOMETO HELL! GO DEVILS GO!!!
Man can we say net presence people… this team has zero.. 21 shots are useless when they are perimiter shots with no one in front of the net. We cant score goals.. I found it comical that our best scoring chance in this game came off moen’s stick with gomez and AK on the ice and then a shot from gill. those guys dont have a goal combind in a decade. haha
I’m throwing a massive pool party here in Florida when we finally get rid of Gomers and Hammers contracts from our cap hit.
Be prepared for a loss against Vancouver and Toronto and Carolina……..we should be out of the playoffs by the end of the week lol. I thought this could easily happened after the shootout loss to the Sabres.
Is AK playing? I havent even noticed him. Someone get PG a salad, his blood sugar is getting low.
Well, I’m done for the game and if Gomer and Kosti are still on the team after the trading deadline I’m done for the season. The product on the ice is consistently sub-par and last play-offs were an anomaly. It’s time for this franchise to stop living in history and for the fans in MTL to push for changes by staying away from the Bell Centre and the shops. If they don’t push for changes it isn’t going to happen.
The SH goal when the team was a mess caused the loss of momentum, which was created when PK made a bad pinch. Please Andrew, we know Hamrlik’s been crappy in the 2nd half this year but really, blame where it actually belongs.
Yes. Kneel before Zod.
To tell you the truth, I can’t wait till Hamrlik and Spacek are gone.
Dead weight on defense. They play a good game once in a while, but they’re usually gassed out.
The size thing doesn’t matter much when two teams play who are both built on skill and speed. It DOES end up mattering when one team is built that way and the other team is more balanced and has a focus on physicality. I do not believe that team A can win the majority of games against team B without a richness of speed and skill yet unseen in this league.
Im just sick of being negative,
Calgary and Edmonton have outscored the Habs 7-1 on this trip through 5 periods. Who wants to take bets on whether or not the Canucks can outdo that score in one game Tuesday night?
I hate slumps.
1 win in last 6…looking like 7 now. And Vancouver’s next.
Hopefully a good trade in the next week!!
This is horrible. Habs have NO desire to get the puck; to go in front of the net. Nobody playing exceptional. I’m thinking this game ends up 4-1 if we’re lucky, 5-0 if we’re not.
Come on Dave! This team sucks whale snot!
Interested to hear your explanation of how a blog comment has any influence on the team. Or do you imagine yourself to be all powerful in that regard yourself?
From where I sit, they should call this thing the nostalgia classic. We can all get together once a year and remember when the Montreal Canadiens were good!
Well, I sort of meant after the game. That nonsense is so deeply ingrained, of course they’re going to talk of nothing else in a game against “big” Calgary.
All habs fans invited.
What does Andrei Kostitsyn bring to the team again?
Terrible. Just fn’ terrible.
This may just be another slump, but I fear that this team will still make the playoffs.
The humiliation after they get annihilated…
Come on guys, it wouldn’t be the Montreal Canadiens if they didn’t stress the hell out of you and keep you guessing all season long whether or not we will make the playoffs! This is just the way it is, I’ve gotten used to it.
Here is the difference, Bourque went straight to the net, Pleks on the man down didn’t try or couldn’t go to the net.
At one point you have to sacrifice talented small players of decent big player.
What Mo is that Boone, slow mo.
That my friend is the type of thinking that makes your team an average team. And that is sad.
You missed it. They commented on the Habs forward size just before the 3rd goal
This sucks. These games outdoors are stupid. Another Habs embarrassment.
I’m begining to hate this fkg team!
You forget which way the wind blows.
“Flames have five shots this period. Two goals.”
This is sort of the Habs’ problem right there — bad luck on the percentages.
They come out behind regardless of whether they dominate the play or not. They cannot get a goal on 15 chances, and the other guys will score 1-2 per period regardless of whether they get 3 chances or 15.
This is all random variation, of course, but it would be nice for the law of averages to reassert itself sometimes soon.
Over/under before someone makes a farcical “size” comment in the media though? I’d say two minutes after the game.
The Habs should decline an invite to participate in the next outdoor game in Canada. I mean crap they bite indoors for Christ’s sake!
This team….god damnit.
My inner Timo is coming out.
Habs literally had the wind behind them this period and couldn’t use it. This team hasn’t been useful in their Western Canada Trips in 10 years, it’s a sickness they can’t lose no matter how often they change the coach or the lineup.
Here’s the headline for tomorrow: “Habs Brain-Freezed Into Loss”
I’m soooooooooooooooooooo worried the Habs are going to make a panic trade that we’ll regret for years.
Repeat after me PG: The Habs are not one guy away from winning the Cup.
I stil don’t understand why Hamrlik was on the first wave PP. His lack of positioning and utter laziness was the reason the team lost the momentum. Inexcusable for a player of his talent level and experience.
Man am I ever glad I didn’t pony up the cash to head out there to watch this crap in person. I’m not even sure if I should bother watching the 3rd or finish packing for Vegas.
– In Price We Trust
He had that two game burst of emotion after his talk with martin then went right back to his slack ass self. I have had it with him. I don’t care if he blossoms elsewhere. He has shown nothing here and time is up. Get him off my team.
Did the Flames coaches get their jackets at Value Village?
How about, “Habs Cow-Sh*t In Cow-Town?”
Recently, yes. Overall, not so much. Long as they make the post I couldn’t care less. Once the real season starts, if they’re healthy, we may see some decent action. Course, I got better action in the back seat of my 1968 Vauxhall Viva than these guys give now.
Wow, they are in the top 3rd of a thirty team league, what do you do when they have a bad team?
You’re right! We are not 1 guy away from the Cup. We are 3 guys away from a playoff spot!
it will be an interesting game…when we are favourites we rarely do well…when major under dogs we seem to play well…vancouver has d issues but on the other hand our forwards would have trouble scoring vs a college team…price will have to make many saves and he has to be better when a player cuts in on his as he is one of the worst goalies i have seen on that play…
they are all sucking, PK made a awful play against Edmonton that led to a goal and tonight has been no different so yes, he ‘s been bad too
same reason plecks start every pp and loses most draws and the puck gets cleared..this has been going on for 2 years..the coaches just accept this
Looks like you’ve got priceberg nice and peeved. He’s gonna follow you around the site now.
Hamrlik is now so bad he can drag the team down with one play? Right.
PK made a bad move when the ice was crap, I knew that pinch was a bad idea the second I saw it. SH goal, and boom the momentum truly was in their favour.
Thats what I’m hoping for, I say we get 2 quick ones and tie it up late. Then win 4-3 in OT
A trade is coming up. I can feel it.
It will most likely include Andrei Kostitsyn and a good prospect.
I can feel it coming.
lmao, he’s got us checking the bushes outside our building. Good comedy.
Come on Exit where’s your brain?, don’t you know he has nothing but POTENTIAL, and he’s been riding on it for years!! PFFFT!!
Robert, you’re looking only at results and extrapolating fault from a goal, when it started a shift earlier. And yes, Hamrlik killed that powerplay with one horrifically bad shift.
I saw a bad decision on a pinch and went from there. Habs knew by that point the ice and puck were unpredictable so caution should have figured in.
Moen not burying his chance to tie the game, and Bourque scores on a similar rush to the net. Momentum goes nowhere little if you don’t cash in.
5 for fighting + Metric = intensity level of the Canadiens…
Ok so heres how period 3 will shake down:
….we pop an early tally to instill a little confidence and get back into the game….
…Shortly there after before the midway point we cut the lead to 1……
……then with all the momentum we tie it at 3….
…….But after that,my crystal ball is too foggy to make out what the outcome will be.
….Who’s Wit Me???!!!???Jump on board!
Sorry W3, but I think your crystal ball might have been fogged up from the start.
Calgary’s first goal a soccer goal. The 3rd goal was offside. Yes, we are brutal but the crap officials are ruining this game so why even bother trying.
Agreed. And ya i hate to whine and stuff but u are right.1st goal not even a sniff of a review but it totally looked like it had been kicked in….3rd goal agreed offside ….but NOOOOO…..only if its against the habs.We get all the sh**ty calls it seems.Damn u zebras, rot in hell.
At the end of the day let’s get real; ANY team that has TRAVIS MOEN in it’s top 6 can’t be taken seriously. 1 goal so far for Western Canada..pathetic..trade for a defenceman?, forget that, we need some frickin’ OFFENSE!!!!
Game’s over. No chance in heck to come back in this one.
On a line with Benny & Cammy, why is Gomez shooting?
I’m starting to lose patience with this team.
On the upshot, they came back against us from 4-0….just sayin’.
The Habs haven’t had the luck required to come back from behind 4-0 all year. Of course, that could change at any time, but I’m not holding my breath. They’re the unluckiest team in the league when it comes to converting chances (and I use the term “unlucky” advisedly).
Getting humiliated on the biggest stage of the season. Talk about two teams going in opposite directions here. What is this going to be now, 7 losses in 8 games with Vancouver next.
the habs have already proven that they can beat the canucks, they already did it this year. they are hurting bigtime with losses on the back end and if price is on top of his game, I see no reason why we cant go into vancouver and win.
This team don’t need a tweak. It needs a major overhaul
Ok, all thats left to watch for is which Habs player goes down to injury. Another D man maybe?
that is sad…one of the worst road teams in the nhl…one of the worst scoring teams in the nhl for the last 2 years…after 160 games of being one of the worst scoring teams in the nhl when does it not become bad luck but lack of talent…
Looks like another December stretch looming — can’t convert umpteen scoring chances, everything the other guys touch turns to gold.
Which is deeply annoying given that this is the best Habs club we’ve had in 15 years or so, but the percentages are really hammering them.
Well, hopefully they’ll score the next goal and then they won’t need to worry about being in a 4-0 hole.
No pressure on the Flames at all, I feel they may not need to score another one the way we are playing!
When a Hab has to dig a dump-in out of his own corner, there is always a Flame barrelling in there to try and nail him. When the puck is in the Flames’ corner, he’s got all day, because the Habs never hit anyone.
I stand corrected!! I am here in Cali with ya man!! Very brutal is Hahn!!
I’m feeling OK about the game. We got through the first period down one goal – not the worst that could have happened. We’ve been penalized twice and Calgary has none – maybe they’ll find their whistles the next time Calgary takes down one of our guys. Price looks sharp too. So, it could be a lot worse.
At one point Molson should get the memo that the Canadiens are the most storied franchise in NHL history. He should DEMAND a Heritage game in MTL, and he should not take no for an answer.
If we don’t get unbiased refs we should not go and tell the NHL to bite it.
That’s careless use of the stick if ever I saw it.
Well that was an obivous high stick. Can’t complain about that one.
Are we allowed to vote on three stars on road games? Because seriously, it’s pretty easy to this point. 1st Bourque, 2nd Price, 3rd everybody else.
The VS. Broadcasters are absolutely the worst in Hockey!!!
Must be nice having hometown refs. 2 cheap calls against the Habs, a goal that looked kicked in with no review, and whistles in the pockets when Calgary does anything, like knee/trip Gionta.
Habs game depends on passing finesse, especially on the breakout. Just doesn’t seem like the type of conditions this team can survive in. On the bright side, one or two lucky bounces….Hope there’s some pushback in the second.
Cherry looks like a crash test dummy with a cold FX cowboy hat on!! LMAO
Don Cherry made a snide comment about how “we’re” going to be paying for the new Quebec City arena. Yep, DON CHERRY. A CBC colour commentator, on the public broadcaster, complaining about who’s going to pay for the arena. What a dumb ass.
“Mari Tremblay says Price needs help” NO SH!T. He needs help every freakin game!
I’m mad as hell and I’m not going to take it anymore…
it’s cool how the most american beer on the planet is sponsoring a canadian game on canadian soil…sike
You’re being unpatriotic, titan5. Go sit in the corner and sing Oh Canada for the intermission.
I seem to recall an almost identical one of our goals being called off earlier in the year.
BS. I saw his foot make the kicking motion, just didn’t see if it went off his stick or skate. The fact there were no mention of it sounds suspicious though.
Anyone else find it curious that ‘upon further review, the goal was actually from So-and-so’s stick and not this guy?” seems to come up often enough, but somehow, they can’t overturn illegal goals that weren’t called for review on the ice? Seems stupid.
Na, we just need our guys to step up.
And Italy is winning.
In my opinion, it was close enough to warrant second look.
Step up? Onto a stool maybe…
For their crap, yeah.
You mean, like watching Poland and Italy on the battlefield?
PVR has advantages. No kick motion
Oh, was that a size joke? Haha…ha…sigh.
No need to ruin a good conspiracy theory. LOL
Pleks playing like a little girl & AK playing like a Zombie.
Why the hell didn’t Martin call for a video review on Bourque’s soccer goal?
Chintzy tripping calls. PENALTY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Knee a guy at centre ice? That’s okay, he plays for Calgary and is from the West like the four officials tonight. What a load of crap this league is. Hey Bettman, next time you want a f’n gimmick game, let the Leafs or Senators or Canucks sacrifice their season for it. Better yet, get one of your welfare bum teams from the south to play in Winnipeg as some sort of sacrifice. Screw this. What a load of crap that was. Oh and Tim Hortons, Screw you too with your overpriced (deleted) coffee. Screw you too Canadian Tire.
I don’t understand why nobody in the media or on the broadcasts is talking about how Bourque may have kicked the puck into the net. Furthermore, I can’t believe the morons in Toronto didn’t see it as doubtful enough to warrant at least a review.
Kostitsyn’s playing? LOL
We need Penner.
Redirected but no kicking motion
It wasn’t kicked. At worst it was “directed” which is legal, but it looked like it hit the stick to me.
This is like the worst game of hockey I’ve ever watched. It’s like watching Poland play Italy.
A buck for a cup of coffee is overpriced?
Not Enjoying this yet!! Cmon Les Boys, pull your heads out and show some fight!! Carey may look like Plante right now but he isn’t so get to work!!
Face it. We are getting jobbed. Shitty ice conditions favour Flames. Western refs including the corrupt Mike Leggo. The first period we are playing against the wind at 35 mph. We get penalties on lame calls and Calgary gets away with non-calls. Sounds fair…
my sentiments exactly
May I suggest the Habs are playing uninspired (and uninspiring) hockey?
Send Gomez down or somewhere else. He is about as useful as a mesh condom!
They are bad, but have you heard Randy Hahn (Sharks)? He really sucks and I have to listen to him all the time.
I don’t mind Dave Strader, Its Andy Brickley I cant stand, Hes a Bruin Hose Monster
WOW, what a pass by AK to Moen. Too bad it was Moen.
Dominating, but with no goals to show for it, what a suprise
Benny looked real soft going for the puck.
I said it in the first…send in a couple short-hoppers and make Kipper field it. Habs on pace for what, 30 shots this period?
Playing much better this period. Only a matter of time…
We’ve got tons of shots, but maybe one or two legitamate scoring chances. We have to generate some more buzz around the slot to pot one past Kipper.
Time to go to work on the PP. Cammy time??
Surprised they didn’t give Pacho an equalizer for holding the stick. LOL
Kind of hard to let that one go.
About friggin’ time. Flames have a 8 for 1 deal going on with the refs.
Hammer doesn’t lick, he sucks!
Hamrlik has a bomb from the point?
I like Wiz, but he’s a turnover machine
Highson says we “deserved” a power play. As the wise Clint Eastwood says, deserve’s got nothing to do with it. A player either commits an infraction, or not.
God aweful the Habs are
start of the pp..plecks on the draw …we all know the result…
Price’s mask is giving me nightmares.
So we can all stop gnashing our teeth about getting outshot in the 1st now, right?
I’m beginning to think these outdoor games need to be tweaked. Maybe we could have a 4 year rotation:
Outdoor All-Star Game.
Power play, flower play. Fail. Friggin horrible.
Like I said, gonna be an ugly western road trip. Someone get PG a salad.
Everything hurts more when it’s cold, so maybe Moen’s snow shower stung Kipper more than it usually would.
Is Moen supposed to be a solution to our lack of secondary scoring?
Holy hell, any chance we could just put Brian Skrudland there instead?
No that it’s fair, apples to apples, but imagine if PG traded Price instead of Halak this year??? No way we make the playoffs!!
carry the puck, you tools
Good save by Price – keep it up.
Healy probably thinks that Carey hasn’t even blinked.
For the love of God!
Oh you must love the Canucks then, but you couldn’t possibly love Western Canadian teams as much as Hughson. That’s impossible. They always get robbed, have the best players, coaches, etc.
I understand that those are his roots, but I find him to be fairly neutral on the national telecasts. There aren’t many play-by-play guys that are better in calling the action IMO.
He was Kevin Lowe’s biggest fan. And that’s just about all I have to say about Jim Hughson.
SO many spectators on that play.
Roman Hamrlik killed that PP for us by being absolutely inept on the first wave.
How about Subban on the ice for the bad pinch when that whole giant bloody mess in our zone started for the Shortie?
He should get scored on in that ridiculously ugly helmet. That thing should be burned and buried.
you are ridiculous. you can’t find anything else to rip on besides price’s helmet? go to bed
Well, this PP has really sucked the life out of all the good stuff we did this period.
Ouch, that really hurts.
5 players on the same side of the ice on that one.
Damn it all.
“Tell him he’s Wayne Gretzky.” – Oilers coach Ted Green, after Shaun Van Allen suffered a concussion and couldn’t remember who he was.
Well, that was BRUTAL!
Better not make the playoffs so they can blow up this freakin excuse of a team!
People can get seriously hurt jumping off the bandwagon….
Gah, why does it keep posting?!
Of course, but the way the game is officiated, Montreal is going to have to learn to live with a terrible PP-PK ratio. They’re not considered a top, or even relevant teams, which means that they’re not going to get the benefit of the doubt against anyone.
Everybody talks about our shots on goal. Maybe there’s a reason for it. We just don’t get power plays – it’s rare. Plus, we get called on every little thing – so our guys are exhausted from killing penalties. I’m not going to get into conspiracy theory, but it sure is easier to get a flow going and to get shots on goal if you’re allowed the odd power play.
Seriously. I was expecting Little Richard to start a long, drawn out version of the anthems when they said that.
2 first liners from Chez Paree.
Maybe she stutters, lol
She was horrific – I thought that her lyric screw-up was the least offensive part. It shouldn’t require 87 syllables to sing “Oh say can you see”
I know, but the fact that the Habs are playing in an event called the “Heritage” Classic warrants some French.
Cold, naw. I played in this weather in my T-shirt back in the day on the pond!
Hughson just said all the refs ar from Alberta?? WTF?
Go Habs Go ! A tear to my eye watching the Canadian Anthem from so far away.
It wasn’t the epic Paulina Gretzky but it will have to do. Doesnt Lanny Mcdonald have a granddaughter ?
Lets go boys
Mr. Boone, is there any way of finding out exactly what Colorado was looking for from Montreal in return for Stewart?
RDS would be sooooo much better
They had Christina Agulera during the superbowl.
And that guy would be the 2nd person to watch that movie…
Gomez, Gionta, Gill, Pacs….USA USA ha ha ha!
Aah, thanks, I didn’t know.
No zamboni? WTF? Oh this should be interesting.
Bettman made them do both anthems. But the signage for the Heritage Classic was in English only which offended the francophones since this is supposed to be a neutral zone arena. Go figure.
All American games today did our anthem for Hockey Day in America. Just reciprocation.
US national athem? WTF?
mr.boone i tought it was live blogging tonight(you know, the web cam thingy)
** Buck Fruins **
It’s in Calgary and two Canadian teams, so why the American anthem??
This is ridiculous – I’m sure they sang the Canadian anthem down in Bufordland today.
no disrespect but why is there us natl anthem, both teams are canadians, unless the us is trying to buy off the province of alberta
I thought the announcer said Thompson Twins… Phew….
WTF .. This is two Canadian teams?
As I sit with my chips and a cold brewski
I am delighted to hear that Wisniewski
Is one tough hombre with heart
And will take part
To play in Calgary where it’s as cold as Rimouski
I swear somebody in the NHL PR Department watched Mystery Alaska and thought………HEY, I’ve got an idea!
Wiz = ballz of steel.
Price should have knocked Kipper
The Wiz is playing – if ever if ever a Wiz there was.
Good news is it looks like the sun will be off the ice and out of the goalies eyes by face off.
Why the American Anthem?
Why are there two anthems being sung?
We gonna hear the Russian anthem too? Alberta fosho.
They shoulda had this guy butcher the US anthem.
The American anthem has ‘Hockey Day in the U.S.A.’ written all over it…which I’m sure all my American neighbors are celebrating with unabated zeal.
Well that’s makes it a whole lot better
Just wondering my friend, whats the big deal,
I’m not gonna lie, I’m kind of bummed they didn’t sing at least part of our anthem in French.
Alberta and French rarely go well together, from what I have seen while visiting…
I think a few errant pucks shot near or at officials or the odd high stick into one of their faces might get their attention. Accidentally, of course.
Mara looks big -6’4″- out there and he is finishing his checks..I like that.
The Habs are back to sleeping through first periods. It doesn’t say much good about a team when only one of its players (i.e., Price) is putting in an effort.
Did anyone count how many non-calls Flames got away with?
There were more than one, for certain!
The non-call knee/trip on Gionta, Wiz getting held or slew foot by Bourque I think, and Price getting run into but sold well by Flames with a little Habs D contact.
Ole Chesterfield Cherry is on eh?
if this was a reg game in calgary score would have been 3-0 flames…habs are very good at winning at home but they are just a terrible road team so far this year…
We’ll have the wind to our backs for the second period. Got to even the score early.
Yep. Hopefully the Habs can kick a few field goals with the wind at their backs.
F**k the 5 on 3. Our team must lead the league.
Well you can sure see the refs are all weastern boys another joke in the making as far as refing goes.. Nice slash on Gomez and a good trip on Gionta and yet they didn’t miss giving the Flames and early advantage to take the lead.
Does AK being soft suprise anyone,
This is a carry over from the debacle in Edmonton, this team has no life
What’ya know no call on the Gio trip, F off refs
Best idea for any shooter would be to bounce one in from centre ice.
Flames 1 Price 0
Wow…the reffing is spectacular again today.
well the first period showed that it makes no difference where the game is played…the habs are one one the worst road teams in the nhl and have a collection of brutal forwards in goal scoring talent…
well said, at least he came to play today
It’s pretty clear that the ice condition affects the Habs FAR more than it affects Calgary. No cross-ice passes, can’t move as quick, unstable puck.
They are skating into a 35 mph wind as well don’t forget.
Just a guess on my part but with ice conditions like this I don’t think passes are clicking for either team. Too many bounces. Keep you D back and just throw it down there and race for the puck? Dare I say, pond hockey strategy?
It would have to be a 3 team deal cause there is nobody from Pho that I want. (that they would trade that is)
It’s tough for the habs to play their quick pass game when the puck is as predictable as a wiffleball out there.
Time for Pleks to step up!
Good save Price – keep it up.
Shots are 14-4….CMON HABS MAN. Don’t let us down today!
Habs’ closest chance so far. Hopefully they can get something going. 17-6 are the shots. Yikes.
The quality of the hockey in this game is terrible. The puck seems glued to the ice.
I’m enjoying the camera angles a whole lot more than during the Winter Classic.
Those damned sticks!
Gomez to Phoenix? Let’s start the rumors about whose coming back…
There are going to be a ton of icing calls in this one.
Hopefully with few shots Kipper will freeze on & the Habs will score
So are they going to play the whole game in front of Price?
Hannah, where are your priorities?
Mike Leggo is a Hab-hating corrupt ref. He’s not going to help us at all the bastard
Gosh – the Habs couldn’t have started any worse…
PLAY FER GAWD SAKES!
Lets go boys, someone step up and score a efin goal already, Sometimes this team is so hard to watch
Price keeping the Habs in the game AGAIN
At least Carey won’t freeze
Price should have worn the Brown equipment
Fan since ’71
Some players’ salaries are higher than their actual cap hits, remember. Gomez is an example – he’s making $8M this year but his cap hit is $7.377M
I am a modern day weekend warrior, I stay inside where it’s nice and toasty warm. Snowmobile ? How cavemanish…
Speaking of which, if any of you are the kind of people who revelled in driving your snowmobiles across some poor kid’s freshly flooded ice rink on a lake in cottage country, may a thousand sand fleas infest your armpits.
Again, just before the game started Hughson said, “all the ref’s are from, or currently live, in Alberta”. Nice.
I hate playing with Leggo.
Stick didn’t touch him.. See why they’d call it, but the ice is getting annoying.
Right – are we going to get the same calls?
Ice fishing !!!!!
Seriously, I’m just tired of hearing that word. Give it a rest.
If it’s shinny ice, maybe the score will be shinny-like.
And if that happens, here are some candidates where it would be great if they broke out of their long funks:
Glenn Healy needs to stop talking.
Not anywhere that could’ve caused a fall. They could’ve called a hook though.
Healy’s math is as strong as his in-game anaylsis. He keeps talking about $122 million worth of talent on the ice. When did the salary cap go up to $61 million?
Will the announcers please , please, forget about the ice !!!
And, two minutes for TK falling.
It ain’t pond hockey without tufts of dead grass to skate around.
loving martin’s varsity jacket. what a great look for him.
Did we ever once get a power play when Tom the Bomb went down?
Where was PK’s stick when that happened?
why was PK complaining
Habs look pretty good so far
Still don’t like the new blogging format… And TK dive/fall.. You’d think with the poor ice they’d realize that.
5 different players have already fallen without help from another player or stick. Unreal.
Very funny but their conditions don’t rival the ice at McMahon right now.
Off the shoulder.
I like these Fames ketchup and mustard suits. If the injured guys have been eating Bell centre hot dogs, they should have great games.
I hope not. But I do hope it is the end of these horriawful outdoor games.
Once was cool.
Every year? Not so much with the cool.
The ice looks horrible.
I was out on the pond at -20 or -30 all the time when I was a kid. Mainly because we didn’t have a rink in town, so it was the pond or nothing.
Kipper is soft … Price is strong like bull!
Ok Enough about that freakin pond, you know what the pond sucked, and if you were out playing in -20 degrees you were an idiot. Plain and simple, so stop it with the pond crap.
Calgary Tigers of the 1920’s…were they Hamilton’s farm team?
I can’t stand this camera angle
Somebody will tear a ligament in this game. PA never should’ve allowed it to happen.
If we’re going to cancel games with terrible ice conditions, we’d have to shut down the Atlanta Thrashers and Florida Panthers for good.
Terrible ice, terrible camera angle, terrible penalty.
Ice is terrrrrrible
OK, now I know why
Greeeeat, 5 on 3
LOL, the Habs aren’t going to get the same calls as the Flames, no. The Flames have more/better publicity.
Sure looked like he kicked it in.
Seriously.. We can fault JM for that though for not calling for a review.
That’s what I thought too
Really, could Glenn Healey just shut the f**k up!?!?!?!?
I’m dealing with Andy Brickley, a Bruins hose monster
Almost had it beat! Damnit!
