Not a single break

But this ain’t over

  1. HotHabs says:

Yes, I laughed at that one, too.  But, they go with the “4th seed is supposed to win” mentality.  If they were honest they would be reporting headlines like “Pens feel pressure as underdog Habs go for series lead”

  2. Exit716 says:

You’re happy that a first round pick was wasted on a house league talent?

    Good for you.

Timmins record in the first round is pretty bloody abysmal.

  3. 24 Cups says:

    Robert – True dat!

  4. light_n_tasty says:

    *rolls eyes*

  5. oshawahabsfan says:

I’d take them over a guy who’s nickname is “Pony” anyday

  6. J. Ambrose says:

Yeah, he’d be great were it not for his brain lapses, like referring to “Jonas” Plekanic.

  7. SeriousFan09 says:

    Oh BS!

Canadiens traded for Giroux there’d be an unending amount of whining we traded for another midget centre, no matter how good he might be. You think Canadiens management would get off any easier than it would on the Cammalleri and Gionta signings or the Gomez acquisition, trading a starting goalie for that guy? People would gripe it should’ve been Carter the Canadiens traded for or nothing, or gone looking somewhere else for that big centre.

    – I shall always remember Captain Koivu.

  8. diehardhab says:

“Inconsistent player.” See Pouliot, and Kostitsyn,Andrei

  9. Mr.Hazard says:

I thought the exact same thing.

    “love cannot drown truth, Nefertiti”

  10. thepriceiswrong says:

He is an inconsistent player. He would land on the 3rd line or JM’s doghouse.

Dont give him so much credit. The pens are sitting him because he hasnt been putting the effort the way some of their 4th liners have.

  11. Aybara says:

So true. I prefer the French version, but it’s sweet he updated the song

  12. light_n_tasty says:

Bob Cole is not a Leafs fan.

  13. Danno says:

Spats, I love that old chant! Hope it comes back big time now.

“Hey Richard, two minutes for looking so good!”

  14. jbroderi says:

who knows?  If the flyers want an overpriced, olg goalie who they have no room for under the cap, then good on them, but if they went after price, Old PG I hope will demand something good in return.  Price could have easily been our guy this year, but halak didn’t show any chinks in the armor.  price played well recently, and i still think he could fetch a good price, maybe not giroux, but someone.

I think we could get a big bacon classic combo with a frosty for Fischer!!  hahaha

“I’ll take potent potables for 500, Alex” JB

  15. jbroderi says:

bringin back memories of him sweeping the puck out of the net back in ’93.

It’s funny when you look at the goalies the habs beat that year

first two were ok, then two pretty big pylons if you ask me!!  Oh, the memories!!

Hopefully we can create some new ones tonight!!!!!!!!!!!

  16. TripleX says:

No real hockey fan would EVER throw something on the ice.  It is dumb, juvenile and disrespects the game.

“Good judgement comes from experience, and experience comes from bad judgement.”

  17. TripleX says:

Bob Cole is a Leafs fan to the core, but as the Cinderella Habs continue to surprise he has jumped on the bandwagon.  Bob is an old pro and he knows how to ride the wave, for him not to support the Habs now would be a disaster.

Don’t worry.  First Saturday night game with the Habs vs Leafs and his true colours will come out.  LOL

  18. The Juice says:

Love it! Just bought a pack of 3 😉

  19. Fansincebirth says:

Thanks bud, pulled it down and printed it off at work.

Some people wondered what was all over Cindy Crybaby’s face and I said something about Bettman….. :o)

  20. The Juice says:

Glen Healey has taken up the mantle from Neale. Last game he couldn’t stop chastising the Bell Centre faithful for booing the refs!

  21. Xtrahabsfan says:

Yo fansinecbirth …got yer Email.Just google CRYBABY FIRST AND THEN SIDNEY CROSBY. Have fun…GO HABS GO!

  25. Harani says:

Choosing Patrik Stefan would be considered an EPIC FAIL.

    “I gotta feeling…that tonight’s gonna be a good night!”

  26. SlovakHab says:

Not sure whether it’s been posted here yet coz I was away for a couple of days:

For those in a need of an extra pump-up before the game, ‘Canadiens de Montreal’ on Facebook has posted a trio of Habs songs: “Le But” des Loco Locass (and here’s another version of it), “GOLD’HALAK” des Porn Flakes and “Go Habs Go” by Christopher Pennington (round 1 highlights).

B.Burke is building the Bruins through the draft.

  27. joeybarrie says:

WHat is it with the EPIC FAIL… Do you guys who use this term even know what it means. When someone doesnt live up to the hype, all of a sudden the person who drafted him or the person who said he is gonna be good is labelled with an EPIC FAILURE.

Dude, wake up, its not an EPIC failure. Its barely even a failure. Scouting is not easy, there are very few EPIC FAILS out there.

Everything with this team is either the best thing ever, or the worst in history. We are so dramatic.

There may be other teams, but only ONE Club De Hockey…

  28. joe-hab-nuno says:

“our father, who are in bell center, hockey be thy name, thy will be done, the cup be won, on ice as well as in the stands… give us this day our hockey sticks and forgive us our penalties…. as we forgive those who cross-check against us. Lead us not into elimination and deliver us to victory.. In the name of the fans.. lord stanley. and the holy halak!!! AMEN!”

  29. joe-hab-nuno says:

  30. Exit716 says:
    The next great francophone player:

read it here first: Claude Giroux. I hate the Flyers, but this guy can
play … and I wish he were here.

What about David Fischer? Timmins and company obviously though Mr. Minnesota High School Hockey Player was better than Giroux.

Just another epic fail on the part of Arnprior’s top NHL scout.

  31. MikeL says:

I have to admit, I’m usually very against Bob Cole and his dementia/blindness. But, he still has the “voice”. Gord Miller can be as interesting and smart as he wants to be, but he lacks the voice. In the moments during a game or a series, when stats and analysis don’t matter, and all that matters is the emotion and action on the ice; Bob Cole is still the best.

  32. diehardhab says:

To illustrate how loaded with talent the pens are, ponikarovsky will likely be a healthy scratch tonight giving way for guerin to make his return. If we had ponikarovsky surely he would be on one of our top 2 lines. Either way if talent alone won playoff series we would be out a long time ago..

The torch be yours to hold it high!

  33. SPATS says:

OK Mr. Boone, I just reset my PVR to CBC instead of RDS. I’ll give Bob another chance. He’s had 4 games to get to know the players by their numbers. I hope I’m not disappointed. Out here just north of Victoria (west shawnigan lake to be precise) the games start at 4pm, Today is the first sunny bright day in a long while here. As I type this my wife is putting the finishing touches on our open house so I’ll miss the first period and hope to catch up by the 3rd. We’re selling asap and relocating to Riverview NB. BC (BringCash) has gotten too expensive for us. Ian Cobb (we’ve never met) has graciously offered to put us up for a night as we trek across. What a class act. But then again, he’s from St Lambert (where I went to elementary school with Stu Cowan – hang on while I pick up the name I shamelessly dropped) and he lived in Riverview for a while also. Ted Tevan was wrong, There’s something else in Belleville but the Bulls…Ian Cobb! Can’t wait for the next summit.

As previously posted, anybuddy attending monday’s game? Let’s bring back another ghost….

No disrespect to our troops!!!! it’s just a game, but a big one!

  34. kempie says:

Hahahaha! We all were punks in the 80s. Say hi to Johnny for me (Capitalist pig)

For my part, We’re in Calgary and we’re going to see the world premiere of Love Lies Bleeding today.

  35. SPATS says:

Nicely said. Corporatism is the rule of the day in all facets of daily life. First it was the mainstream news. Now if we’re not careful, it’ll be mainstream sports. How else to explain the Yankees success? Our habs are posterboys for the working class. (Now if only they’d play for $14/hr no benefits)

  36. habs-hampton says:

True, I guess he couldn’t find a way to defend them.

  37. HardHabits says:

Public Image LIMITED!!! Hey I was a punk in the 80’s. Why not? You think he sold out after he quit the Sex Pistols or something?

I could be wrong I could be right.

  38. HugeHabsFan says:

I agree with your comments about MacLean here – not sure why he won’t speak out about it, but his silence, in my opinion, is equal to condoning the officiating.

“Thank you Cammy for making my day even more amazing!”

  39. bigjames says:

just want to reiterate my pride in this team. they are inspiring and whatever happens i will always remember this year. GO HABS!

  40. kempie says:

Public Image? Say it’s not true.

  41. CharlieHodgeFan says:

I just read Boone’s good article on the “conspiracy” – you know, there is no need for a conspiracy. All you need is a poorly run league that favours profit too much and quality too little. You need a commissioner with the soul of a fast food menu planner, and a corporate climate that puts ethical considerations down where the Maple Leafs dwell. If you have those elements in place, there’s no need for even a discussion, let alone a conspiracy. Rot is guaranteed.

Anyone know a league run like that?

  42. jbroderi says:

don’t knock being tea-bagged till you try it!!!

hahaha, just kidding!  I think he was making more fun at the conspiracy theories than anything, but he couldn’t ignore the terrible, one-sided reffing.

There were several games this year that I was ready to blame the refs, but Boone very seldom did.  I sincerely hope ole PG called the NHL about that farce the other night, though.  Jeez!!!

“I’ll take potent potables for 500, Alex” JB

  43. habs-hampton says:

So Where is Ron McLean on the officiating in this series. He personally hung Alex Burrows out to dry in the Stephane Auger incident(s) earlier this year.

If he’s so interested in balanced reporting, let’s hear him say something about the officiating in this series. Or is he just going to shut up until a player says something about the zebras. CBC tried to drag a comment out of Gionta, but he wisely answered “No Comment”. Don Cherry blasted them and McLean just sat there with a stupid look on his face as if to say “Well, that’s your opinion”.

Bottom line, McLean feels his role is to protect the officials. Bettman must love him!

  44. Fansincebirth says:

I find it hilarious how TSN says the Pens will try to break the tie as they host tonights game.

Why not ‘The Habs will try to break the tie as they travel to Pittsburgh to play the Pens’….too funny

“Without the strength of the past, the team may face a choice – to win, or to be French-Canadian?” — Ken Dryden

  45. jbroderi says:

I always liked Cole, and I think he is doing an excellent job this series, even if a bit senile.  I think he was pro-leafs, but he never was really terrible against the habs.  I think ole harry neale was the worst by far for being pro toronto.

“I’ll take potent potables for 500, Alex” JB

  46. Norcal Habsfan says:

As in reference to the anti-Obama, radical right “tea-party” political movement in the States. I don’t know if fandom really has a radical left or radical right. Maybe just radical. Maybe the reference is too Boston. I know if we get another game ref’d like game 4 we revolt and throw something in the water, maybe beaver pelts, maybe Bettman himself, JK.

  47. 24 Cups says:

“The next great francophone player: Your read it here first: Claude Giroux.”

Hey, Mike, the word has been out for a while now on Giroux.  Philly selected this guy in the 2006 draft (22nd) just after we chose David Fischer (20th) from Apple Valley.  Four years later one guy is ready for stardom while the other player is on the clock.  This is the kid that some of us wanted to trade for earlier in the year (if Carter wasn’t available) for Price or Halak.  I guess it’s a mute point now.

  48. nova scotia vees says:

Wow!  I have been a Habs fan for longer than most of you have been alive.  With all my heart I want them to win.  But…what is with all the crap about Crosby?  A puck in the face??? Garbage!

Can’t believe that this is the same fan base that actually cheered Tretiak and gives him a standing-oh ever time he shows-up at the Bell.  Trust me…I NEVER cheered for him.   I don’t recall such vitriol about Ovechkin.   I guess you have to be from Russian to be loved.

NO CONSPIRACY??? Really?  How quickly folks forget Stephane Auger.   Refs not only follow directions…they also have their own little grudges going on.

Just remember what NBA Commish, David Stern said last week.  ” Players and Coaches better stop criticizing refs.  We’ve got a good BUSINESS  here and they make a good living.”  Where did Betteman come from you ask?  The NBA.

  49. Mike Boone says:

    “doesn’t mean the referees aren’t” Tea-baggers? Really?? That’s a stretch

  50. danp says:

    Here’s a good idea for game 6:

I say we throw a few pacifiers on the ice whenever crosby
complains and let the announcers explain that one.

  51. HardHabits says:

Going to see PiL tonight. Just to let you know that I am not the only one reliving ’86 all over again.

I will however be keeping tabs on the game but wont be posting any of my insightful comments until well after the game is over. You guys/gals will have to hold the fort without me tonight. 😉

  52. Harani says:

Sorry I got tangled in my thoughts. 4wins iyt if 6 so 4-2.

    “I gotta feeling…that tonight’s gonna be a good night!”

  53. Lafrich says:

Habs are actually 4-2 on the road.

  54. showey47 says:

Don’t know if anyone has seen or posted this yet,but i found it funny.

  55. HabsFanInVictoria says:

Sad… i’m coaching my own team during the provincials tonight and i’ll have to miss the game.  I’ll stream it on my iphone and sneak peaks every once in a while.

    Hopefully the reffing is better!

  56. HUDSONHAB says:

I’m thinking the Habs score a couple early and when the Pens get desperate and start taking chances the Habs score a few more.

    Go get em boys!

  57. Harani says:

TOTALLY off-topic but Hal Gill has a REALLY cute kid!

    “I gotta feeling…that tonight’s gonna be a good night!”

  58. PrimeTime says:

All the pressure is right where MTL wants it to be…..right in the heads of the PENS. Tonight we’ll see how PIT responds. Game 3 was crucial….PIT won. Tonight is more crucial….we’ll see. PIT is 9-2 after after a loss the past 2 playoff seasons. The only 2 straight loses were last year and in both cases they came back to win the series. But is this the same team as last year? Hey, we have Gill!! Can the loose HABS pull another upset on the tight PENS??? Advantage to the winner. Game on!

  59. Harani says:

Also Francois Gagnon reports that Bill Guerin is in for the Pens tonite. Ruslan Fedotenko and Alexei Ponikarovsky will be the healthy scratches.

    “I gotta feeling…that tonight’s gonna be a good night!”

  60. Harani says:

I’m feeling pretty good about tonight. Especially because the Pens have a 2-5 records at Mellon Arena and the Habs are 4-6 on the road. We have no trouble playing in their building and if we can get an early lead, watch out for the Habs.

    “I gotta feeling…that tonight’s gonna be a good night!”

  61. Norcal Habsfan says:

Nice Gazette: Conspiracy article Boone. Thanks for giving the Habs Nation’s equivalent of tea baggers a voice. You’ve got some brass ones that’s for sure. Or at the very least you have stickittotheman-iosis (Jack Black)

    What was the double negative?

  62. Rugger says:

If he would just shut down the whining and sense of entitlement, Crosby would be a pleasure to watch.  As it is I find myself hoping he will get a puck to the face.

  63. Lafrich says:

    Double post.

  73. zozotheclown says:

Broke the shutout, kinda late… if they tie it I’ll…. I dunno

  74. smiler2729 says:

This is funny, I read all your posts here and I sense the melodrama. We win and we’re amazing, we lose, trade ’em all!

Just to refresh some of your jagged minds, the Habs are a very brave, valiant playoff team. I love ’em all.

But after a season of seeing what some of you have written about Gainey, Gill, Price, etc… I kinda am ashamed to be on the same team as some of you. Some of you WANT TO LOSE just to be proven right in your demented view.

You are not true Hab fans.

  75. SeriousFan09 says:

Heh, at least the little crybaby **** couldn’t hit an EN, take about snakebit.

Bettman can kiss my balloon knot. Good thing to build on for game 6.

  77. zozotheclown says:

lol @ crosby not being able to score on an empty net, atleast he’s still snakebit, thats important.

  78. JasonM says:

This offence needs to provide more. Too much perimeter hockey. Not enough players with their stick down wanting to score.

  79. Clay4bc says:

Wow, what a finish! Colour me impressed…we need to take game 6! And I think we can.

i cant believe the shit after the whistle… cammy gets mugged on that goal, then plekanec gets punched in the face for doing nothing….. of course… no call

why even have refs, just have linesmen

  81. stephen says:

Call me crazy, but I’m not at all disheartened by the loss. Overall, they played a sound game, and that late goal at the end can very easily carry over to Monday’s game. Keep your chins up, chums.

  82. Rainrocket16 says:

Another game we lost because of the Refs, although we should have played much harder.. No Luck at all either. Fleury had all the luck, I bet whe he takes of his gloves there is leprechaun shit in them.

  83. longtimehabsfan says:

    No word on Hal Gill?

  84. gumper says:

I’m sure we all feel severely chastened.

  85. Peter Young says:

We had no one in front of the net for most of the game.  No one to tip the puck in.  No one to catch rebounds.  You can’t score goals that way.  On the bright side, we held an extremely potent offense to two goals.  Game Six will be something to behold.

  86. Habitant in Surrey says:

…if there is ANY positive …at least ‘some’ mo going into the next game in Montreal

…but DAMN …losing Gill may be the backbreaker

    …after de-planing in YUL ? …Straight To The Oratory !!!

    Habitant means PASSIONATE HOCKEY

  87. Chuck says:

This was one of those games where you can say that the bounces didn’t go their way. Fleury was a rebound-generating machine tonight, but none of them seemed to find their way onto the sticks of the guys in the white jerseys.

Cheer for the crest on the front of the jersey, not the name on the back.

  93. Roy says:

Maybe if JM didnt have the boys sitting back aaaaalll game until they were down to 20 minutes this game would be a different story. We outshot Pitt 14-6 when we wanted to force the play.

  94. Chuck says:

Well, I’m not bitching about the reffing tonight. Not a bad game from the guys in the stripes, though not great.

Cheer for the crest on the front of the jersey, not the name on the back.

  95. alfieturcotte says:

Pleks, AK 46 — time to show up.  Pleks in particular is invisible.

Subban and Halak were our two best out there tonight.

  96. TripleX says:

Are AK and Pouliot just dumb or are they uncoachable.  I have to believe they are telling them both to go to the front of the net and use their size.  WTF?

Pouliot was GREAT when he arrived and was a scoring machine.  Does he not see how his play and performance has changed?  AK has always been streaky but hard to break out when you are relegated to spot duty.  I say challenge them and put them back on the top lines, nothing to lose except the series now.

“Good judgement comes from experience, and experience comes from bad judgement.”

  97. Kain292 says:

Great effort by the guys tonight, but Fleury stone walled us.

Losing Gill is huge. If he can’t play next game, Spatch will have to. Even if he can’t stand up because he’s too dizzy, if he just falls over and blocks shots then so be it.

  98. joeybarrie says:

Yet another 1 goal game. These guys dont quit. How in the HELL can we win without Gill…???

Did anyone think we would be saying THAT 20 game into the season???

  104. mrhabby says:

good road game by pens at home…played tough defense, fleury was big when he had to and they hit our smaller players alot more.

hope gill is not injured. the bell will be rocking monday night.

some of our players vanishing…pouliot ,ak please stand up.

  105. AH says:

The boys played a crap game tonight, why were we so flat??? But given that, we lose Gillosaurus, and the mighty Penguins just hang on to beat us 2-1? They played a hell of a lot better than we did, and they didn’t blow us out! With some sustained consistent effort WE CAN DO THIS!

Pouilot benched and deservedly so, let’s hope it wakes him up!

Let’s hope the big man is not out!, please!

  106. Harani says:

all year the team had trouble scoring goals …the effort is there but in reality this team is really a 85-90 point team…looks more and more pouliot hit a hot streak when traded but now 1 goal in 26 games is showing he is not a top 6 forward…ak46 hardly gets any scoring chances and same with plecks…hopefully a few fluke goals next game and we have a game seven…

  114. danedmunds says:

you can probably conclude pouliot is uncoachable or needs a particular coach or system. ak has only had one system, defensive minded that is so he may be better elsewhere and i have to say, i cant wait for him to be outta here. just stereotypical european style play and that doesnt work in the playoffs.

  115. tricolortrue says:

why do you think Minn traded him?  duh?

Despite the lack of players in front of the net, we had some great chances tonight and were unlucky we did not score at least one or two more than we did.  So I’m not down on the team at all.  The defense played well again and our forwards were unlucky.

  124. Tis Himself says:

So, the Habs are going to have to win in seven games. So what! They’ve done that before.

  125. danhabsfan says:

The guys have to make their own luck, by getting traffic in front..

That will be the key to the next 2 wins.

  126. longtimehabsfan says:

Calling all complainers on this site:  This team is leaving everything on the ice every night.  And in the 3rd we were without 3 of our top 4 D-men.  So give this team some credit.  Pound for pound, ounce for ounce, this is the best Habs team I’ve ever seen.  And I’ve been watching them since 1965.  This team has had less talent, less luck, less everything.  But they have heart and guts and I’ll go to war with these guys.  I’m proud of this team!

  127. Fargo Habs Fan says:

I’ll even make it easier for you!

  130. SeriousFan09 says:

Can we get through this series without having any more of our defencemen injured? I really hope Markov and Spacek can suit up for Game 6, even in limited ice time their ability to control the puck will seriously improve the transition game and eliminate the need to watch MAB prove that without his slapshot, he wouldn’t make the ECHL.

    – I shall always remember Captain Koivu.

  131. Gus says:

The one difference tonight I thought mattered in the final score was point shots…mainly the time given to take quality point shots.  On both Pitt goals, their D was open and had the time & room to get a hard shot off.  With the Habs, Pitt plays forwards very high which takes away the time and space of the Habs D shots, or gives them just enough to get a soft shot that typcially got blocked.

Even though Pitt got two goals from the D, I would not change the defensive strategy – it has served the team well to date.  However, for the Habs, they should make a big adjustment in not trying to funnel every shot to MAB on the PP.  Pitt is clearly reading and playing that strategy and basically saying “we’ll keep defending on MAB until you show you can beat us elsewhere”…get the puck low and bang away like the last goal tonight.  Might also want to consider a Forward with a good one-timer on 2nd wave PP if Spacek or Markov is not back…  PK and MAB are fine, but Georges, OB, Gill don’t belong on 2nd wave…

5 on 5, the Habs have the most goals and can play with Pitt… Opposed to round 1, the special teams is where Pitt has a strong edge and is a strong reason they are leading the series.

  132. Fargo Habs Fan says:

Excellent post.  I don’t know about the best team since ’65 as I’ve only been watching since ’90, but definitely the best team I’ve seen in many years.  No quit.

6 Minutes for Benny the Pillow. He cant score from the Bench. He pisses me off but the only way for this guy to come out of it is on the ice. AK, 10 minutes, 1 shot. Pathetic. 141. Harani says:

Many of you may know that I don’t have a much of a liking for Crosby and a few of you have even called me out on it. Although I don’t deny that he a lot of talent, skill and hockey sense, it’s his personality and attitude that has ALWAYS bothered me. Now that we have all had to endure him for 5 straight games, people realize how irritating and stupid his antics can be. Also, Malkin is clearly a beast when he brings it.

And on a side note, how fitting that his nickname is Sid the Kid, a little ironic don’t ya think?

  146. punkster says:

No regrets on this one. We had a ton of chances and MAF held his ground. He “Halaked” them as someone else may already have said I’m sure. Beat them in game 6.

The refs were, well, the refs. Can’t really blame them tonight. A few missed calles but, hey, they’re not professionals so what can you expect. I look forward to the end of the NHLOA strike so we can get back to the real refs….Waht was that?…Pardon…it ended when?…oh.

  147. Danno says:

    What happened to Hal Gill?

“Hey Richard, two minutes for looking so good!”

  148. tricolortrue says:

here’s wht the habs WON’T win. take a look at their D: MAB-awful. Obyrne benched because of giveaways, Hamrlik-old and horrible, Gill-injured. we’re left with Gorges and a rookie, Subban.

also no offence, players too small, never go to the front of the net. and when the habs get down by a goal they quit.

they tried but just too small and no talent. just like the little train that couldn’t.

    smurfs= zero stanley cups!

  149. longtimehabsfan says:

Gill cut on the back of his knee by Kunitz’ skate.  In a Pittsburgh hospital and will spend night there.  I imagine it’s a tendon or muscle tear that will need to be stitched.  And the beat goes on for this season.  How much adversity can this team handle?

  150. danhabsfan says:

I said it earlier, Flurey did not play that well.  Average, because that is all he needed to be.

The boys did not give him many tough saves, he easily saw everything, and they didn’t get to the rebounds.

All in all, average… not better than Halak, that is for sure

  151. Olay Olay Olay says:

Good game tonight. Big effort by this team but a couple of things I noticed.

    Montreal Side

    • Could not complete 2 consecutive tape to tape passes all night, completely ruining any offence momentum.

    • D couldn’t clear out the zone, way too slow on the decision making forcing everyone to work that much harder.

    Pit Side

    • Malkin was on a mission tonight, his folks aren’t coming to Montreal are they??

    • Fleury was the story again for these guys. He played a hell of a game.

  152. Harani says:

  153. Danno says:

Great. Anyone keeping track how many injuries caused by skate cuts lately?

The Team 990 is reporting Markov will be testing a special knee brace and might play Monday.

  154. longtimehabsfan says:

1976 team was one of the best I ever had the privilege to watch.  I loved that team and remember it fondly.  Now count the Hall of Famers on the 1976 team and count the Hall of Famers on the current team:  Lafleur, Shutt, Lemaire, Lapointe, Savard, Robinson, Dryden, Gainey vs. ????????   Please man, read closely.

  155. Big Ted says:

Refs were pretty decent tonight, not much to complain about. Habe did not have any sustained pressure all night long, despite a few chances here and there. Was not terribly impressed with either team’s perfrormance tonight, and people can sya Felury was stellar, but frankly I didn’t think he was anything more than solid. Habs are very much still alive in this series, as the Pens have still yet to show me anything impressive. Hopefully Gill is okay, we really don’t have any more room to lose defencemen, and MAB looked pretty awful again tonight… My grades for tonight:

    Halak B+

    Gill B, Gorges B

    Subban C, Hamrlik B-

    OB C-, MAB D-

    Gio C, Gomez C, Pouliot D

    AK C-, Pleks C-, Cammy B-

    Pyatt C-, Moore C, Laps C

    Moen C, Metro C, Darche B

Nothing terribly impressive all the way down the line-up.

  156. Danno says:

If that’s it, with a few stitches couldn’t he be good to go on Monday?

I’m a Habs optomist and all but realistically, this series may, (MAY) have ended with Pittsburgh’s 2nd goal tonight.

Many of us Jedi Hab fans felt it…

  162. Olay Olay Olay says:

I agree with you on the D side, but I think these guys have proven time and time again that size makes little difference, just check out Gionta’s stats and it should tell you that.

I’ve been hearing this all year, but I just haven’t seen it. It’s just regurgitated mouth flapping brought to us from the brilliant analysts from TSN that same analysts that said we’d be “swept in 3″ in washington.

  163. Harani says:

on the contrary, I thought that Habs played really well considered their previous performances. And Cammi had 9 shots on goal. 9! And the Habs had 35 shots, Halak made some awesome saves to keep the score loew and it was a good hockey game overall. their goaltender was really good and we didn’t lucky. We can’t win them all but this shows taht our wins against aren’t a fluke. We can hold up and compete. The way you make it sound, it’s like the Habs got pounced 5-1.

Everyone gave it their all and fought till the end. The effort was there and the chances were too. Without Markov, Spacek and Gill for the most part, it was nothing but impressive by the Habs. Positivity bro! We are the friggin 19th place team in the league and are competing with the defending Stanley Cup champions and we’ll be winning this in 7, believe me.

    “I gotta feeling…that tonight’s gonna be a good night!”

  164. punkster says:

Here’s why the Habs WILL win.

    Because tricolortrue says they won’t.

  165. danhabsfan says:

You actually sound like a pessimist… hope you didn’t break your ankle jumping off the band wagon.

Nobody’s disputing effort here, these guys played with effort just not a lot of smarts. I think there careless play create a lot more work for themselves than necessary.

Our top guys all looked flat to me tonight, Cammy is awesome but if anyones learned anything from the playoffs this year is that shots on net don’t mean dinky doo.

  169. HugeHabsFan says:

NEVER say die.  When the last second ticks off the clock of game 4 – then and ONLY then will I ever give up.  And even then, I will still believe that this team has the heart, soul, character and grit to have a great season next year.

They have given us more than we could have hoped for this year.  Who would have thought we’d eliminate the Caps??  And be heading into game 6 with the Pens??  I have enjoyed every game on the edge of my seat. ;o))

    GO HABS GO!!!!!!!

“Thank you Cammy for making my day even more amazing!”

  170. longtimehabsfan says:

That’s not what I’m saying.  I loved those teams.  What I’m saying is that this group of players has done more with less.  The only other teams to do this are the 1986 and 1993 teams and arguably the 1971 team.  But even the 1986 and 1993 teams never had to play the best teams in their conference in the playoffs.  In 1986, the Habs didn’t have to play the Oilers because they had been upset by Calgary.  In 1993 they didn’t have to face the Penguins because they were upset by the Islanders.  This current team hasn’t had that luxury.  They have had to play the Caps [best record] and Pens [Cup champs].  And they’ve had to do it with a goalie who is not even making 1 million per year; without their best player-Markov; without the K brothers playing well; and with a roster that was overhauled in the past year.  If this isn’t the best performance ever by a Habs team then I don’t know what would top it.

  171. tricolortrue says:

I only state the obvious which is there for everyone to see.

maybe if floaters like AK, Pouliot and Pleks had hearts, we would win more games. but doesn’t matter they’ll all be gone from Montreal end of this year.

  172. Y says:

So my reverse jinxing them doesn’t work anymore, nor does refraining from visiting this site on game day and watching them live.

F**k it, I’m watching the last game of the season come Monday.

  173. habaholic68NJ says:

That team was stacked in every position.  They finished 60-8-12 for 132 points in an 80 game season. This will never be reapeated. If they used the current possible 3 point/game system, they would have probably finished with 140 points.

  174. TripleX says:

Pleks was awesome in the Caps series and a major part of the series win.  He has been not effective offensively but has helped shutdown Crosby.

Crosby was great against Ottawa but has zero goals against the Habs.  I guess he is FLOATING AND SHOULD BE TRADED!

“Good judgement comes from experience, and experience comes from bad judgement.”

  175. TripleX says:

This is also the era of the Bettman parity league.  The BEST are not that GREAT and the WORST are not that  BAD.

The Caps are the best according to their record but objectively how good are they really?  In the pre cap era there were some powerhouse rosters.

I think winning FOUR cups in a row no matter how stacked the roster shows a team filled with heart and toughness.

ps  wasn’t Beliveau still playing in 1965?  NO one on this current team is in his league pound for pound or any other measurement.

“Good judgement comes from experience, and experience comes from bad judgement.”

  176. idle says:

Why does Hamrlik keep getting B’s?  He was at fault for the first goal again last night.  He failed to get the puck out when he had the chance and then he went and stood in front of the net lightly tapping at Pens standing right in front of Halak.  If it was Gorges or Gill they would have cleared them out.  If it was P.K he would have cleared him out.  Hell even if it was MAB he would have found a way to either clear him out or two get caught up with him to the point that they both fall down.

By the way, I thought Metro played a great game

    It’s a MAB MAB world.

  177. Shublips says:

Again, I was not impressed by the Pens.  They looked slow and tired.  The Habs did not get enough bodies to the net and did not win battles to loose pucks and rebounds.

THAT is why they lost and not just because Fleury was great.  Habs made his life easy!

Habs can win, Monday and force Game Seven. Go Habs Go!

Having Gill back will be huge.  I also expect either or both Markov and Spacek to go.

Playoff hockey is where whiners are on every team, and yes including ours off and on the ice.

The one team I cannot stand is the Vancouver Canucks, who gives a hoot if they are the second team from Canada still in the playoffs.

I like the chemistry in Chicago and loved how they spanked the Canucks at home.

I am hoping we do the same with Pittsburh tonight, finish them off at home Monday night and rest up for a very tough series against the Bruins.

If we make it past Pittsburgh, mission accomplished in my opinion.  We’ve reached past the second round  under Bobby’s 6 year plan.

Just imagine a Chicago-Montreal final?  Sometimes it’s nice to dream but stranger things have happened in this years 2010 Stanley Cup playoffs.

Good luck boyz!  Play hard and keep thalt little Sergei on the leash in Montreal wherever he is watching the game tonight.

Who would have thought that Ponikarovsky would be this bad?  Especially seeing that all he had to do was play alongside Crosby or Malkin.

  205. SeriousFan09 says:

Go ask the Coyotes what they thought of Stempniak in the playoffs, or how Calgary made out with their little trade with Toronto. Somehow, Burke managed to convince other teams the guys the TML didn’t want were ‘winners’.

    – I shall always remember Captain Koivu.

  206. TommyB says:

So tempting to go there and “troll it up” a little.  Ponikarovsky never did get much of my attention, so it doesn’t surprise me that he’s not making headlines playing in Pittsburgh.  Being in southern Ontario, we tend to get these Leafs/ex-Leafs  shoved down our throats on every radio station or tv sports show.   Guerin’s return is what we have to concern ourselves with.  Sid relies pretty heavily on Guerin to create some havoc around the crease, making it easier for him to either find a good shot or make a sweet pass.  Boys in bleu-blanc-rouge will have to setup the blockade around the net again.

We know we can expect Halak to play well, and at the same time there is always the chance Fleury could have a bad game.  Would be nice if tonight was that time.

  207. andrewberkshire says:

I don’t know if anyone else has noticed this, but at The Pensblog, they’ve taken to calling Subban “the brown stain”. Absurdly racist.

  208. SeriousFan09 says:

I stop there to laugh it up after wins to see how they excuse this stuff away, but now they’ve just gone beyond pathetic, it’s embarassing really.

I’ve seen Leafs fans behave with more class than these brats, bandwagon teams…

  212. Somethingwithhabsinit says:

In their defense, it seemed to be a small sample of commenters making racist remarks. They were getting called out on it by several others. I’d compare it to the Subbanators. 2 complete idiots embarrassing the other supporters of a franchise.

I wouldn’t say they are high up in terms of class, then I look at how many avatars on this page feature Sid crying, or the hacky diving photoshops, and I wonder how much better we are.

    3) …these well-balanced, talented Pittsburgh Penguins will NOT be at all easy to beat tonight …but I believe Our Team is a Team Of Destiny …the Waddlers’ achilles-heel, Jean-Marc Fleury …yet, WHATEVER happens tonight, or the end-result of this series, We HAVE To Be PROUD of this year’s version of Our Montreal Canadiens

  217. SeriousFan09 says:

Next year Halak will be Vezina and  potentially Hart-eligible but considering Miller and Bryzgalov have failed to earn nods this year, it would seem goalies are getting shut out of Hart nominations. Halak was huge, but NHL writers take the whole season into account and with only 45GP, felt Halak wasn’t as deserving consideration as Miller/Bryzgalov if you had to go that way for Hart voting. Besides, if the Canadiens win, Halak will lift the Conn Smythe without a doubt and THAT is a trophy that trumps every other player trophy out there.

Tommy – Mike Boone said it all.  If Crosby continues to slump, we have a good shot at pulling an upset.  If he catches on fire then we are going to need a shite load of goals from our guys.

As for Pony, by coming to Pittsburgh he gets to play with the best and shine by feeding off their crumbs.  What a great gift horse going into a free agency contract year this summer.  Hell, if can do it with Sundin….

  227. Bouleau noir says:

Athought our valiant team has been able to turn an apparant missmatch into a tosse-up once again I beleive that the champion in title will be too much for us to handle tonight and that they wont even need to have the refferre on their side this time in order to acheive their dominance.

The Penguins will play desperate hockey and their roster for tonight’s game has been fine tuned for more speed, more grit and also for better net presence with Guerin in the line-up….. I am still amazed that we are leading them in goals with 7 goals against only 3 ( not counting empty netters ) at evenstrenght while according 0 point to Crosby and Malkin on these occasions….. yet I feel they will be relentless in their attacks until they get a descent lead and will be at their best methodical self to keep our chances down for the remaining of the game….. Fleury should be better too.

I whish the Boone reversed jinx would applied here….. anyway, without Markov I feel there is a limit of what can be done and that we will miss him tonight…… I will certainly be all over the place if the Habs can show me otherwise tonight.

  228. Willy the bum says:

Markov is with the team in Pitts tonight, but will not play ’cause of the injury.  I had a very good hunch he will be the defensive coach on tonight’s game.  Works for Komisarek last year, why not Markov?

  229. HAB-PROFESSOR says:

and one more fact…EVERY SINGLE STANLEY CUP CHAMPION had a very sharp, lucky, stand on its head goalie. nothing new here, we have that goalie so far, and we have a desperate team.

and personally, PITTS is nothing compared to WASH thus far…in fact the HABS haven’t had to play the type of game against PITTS that they played against WASH…everytime WASH carried the puck into our zone it was a threat…the only threat with PITTS is on the PP and the complying syndicate refs.

forcing things and making mistakes. In turn, Montreal then feeds off those
mistakes and takes advantage of shooting on a goaltender who hasn’t seen a shot
    in like 8 minutes. That’s it. That’s their gameplan. A goalie who’s

    PK is a brown stain.

    Disgusting really.

More than just being racist bastards, Pens players (and their fans) should be ashamed to have Cooke on their team and have the refs try and gift wrap them a game. My hate on for the Pens (and also their fans) is now greater than my disdain for the Flyers (and their fans). I even respect the Bruins more than the Pens.

Moreover they called the Bell Centre crowd Frogs for ribbiting every time they thought a penalty should be called. This is war baby!!

  242. HardHabits says:

I’ve reported abuse so it might not last long there.

  243. andrewberkshire says:

  244. andrewberkshire says:

Completely agreed TH, it’s a waste of time, but I was appalled and had to say something.

  245. coachdoug says:

You gotta know the Pens have woken up to the fact that the Habs are not going away…I am hoping JM shows them a different look tonight…maybe a more agressive forecheck to back them up a little bit…this shallow trap system may not last with the Pens…maybe JM will change things up a little

A win tonight would give the Habs a chance to reward the fans with a series win at home…

“Save us Turtleneck Man…We need you now more than ever!”

  246. punkster says:

Good call. I always liked a team that forechecked with a passion. Means a lot of guys will be gassed but if they can get all 4 lines involved and rotate quickly enough (and without the dumbass “too many men” calls) it would work for a while.

The difference between calling Crosby a whiner and calling Subban “the brown stain” is intense. There’s also a massive difference between the proprietors of the blog (so if it was here; Boone, Hickey and Stubbs) and the commenters on the blog making the statements. The people who RUN the Pensblog are joining in on the racist remarks. That’s completely unacceptable.

  302. Somethingwithhabsinit says:

No question that the racial stuff is on a different level. I didn’t spot it being posted by the guys who run the blog, I thought it was just the commentors. That is totally unacceptable in my mind, but there is no real recourse other than not revisiting and driving up their hits.

  303. andrewberkshire says:

This is what I think really separates the team from last year than the current team. Cammalleri, Gill, Gorges, Gionta, Gomez – This team has a lot of leaders. They love to communicate with the entire team. And that seems to have had an effect on the other players as well.

“[Game 2] was the first time I sort of forced myself to watch a game,” he said. “And I sort of got frustrated all over again watching Montreal and Pittsburgh. They’re doing it again.”

“We just couldn’t beat [Halak],” he said. “And I look at the series against Pittsburgh, and it could very easily be 3-0 for Montreal, except for Pittsburgh’s power play has done a lot better than ours.”

I can’t believe it – Versus is now saying that Pittsburgh should be on the power play more and that, giving the refs the benefit of the doubt, that it is because the Habs are “must be very disciplined”. So Versus thinks the refs are favoring the Habs? This is after Versus gave almost the entire pre-game to discussing what the Penguins have to do to win.

  409. danedmunds says:

  410. SeriousFan09 says:

Passing play is shoddy towards the end of the period, not going to get a win against PIT if that continues.

  416. JasonM says:

  417. Clay4bc says:

And Crosby whining at the refs to end the period…what a biatch.

“Good judgement comes from experience, and experience comes from bad judgement.”

  420. dean roberts says:

i was gonna mention that too. what a baby

  421. JasonM says:

Pens should have gotten a call for tripping Subban on that PP they had.

  422. Harani says:

We get a PP to start the the second. We score and it’s a tie again. Habs will win this this.

    “I gotta feeling…that tonight’s gonna be a good night!”

  423. Harani says:

And you all know I’m no big fan of Crosby and people never understood why. Now that we have watched him for 5 games in a row, people realize what I was talking about. Constant whining … NON-STOP! And the scary part is…it works.

    “I gotta feeling…that tonight’s gonna be a good night!”

  424. JasonM says:

Don Cherry calling the Pens PP due to a Guerin dive.

  425. tricolortrue says:

habs can’t beat  a team when they play physical. too small, and ZERO offence.

I mean it’s hard to win when the puck is in your zone the entire game!

  426. gumper says:

So, it looks like having a captain who’s a whiner is the most effective way to go, in terms of gaining an advantage over the opposition. Maybe we shouldn’t trade Sergei afterall. Maybe he’s captain material.

  427. topher5468 says:

its BS, only one call all period and its on us, after everything that happened, one call and its on us. The only was the Pens can win is to get PPs, and they,re getting them

“It’s not an obsession, It’s a way of life..”

  428. kempie says:

When this is all over, here’s how I want it to end:

Bettman has to come into the Bell and present us with the Sanley Cup. Then he has to go up to PK76 and (South Park reference) “apologize”.

  429. coachdoug says:

Its not so much the calls against us it’s the non-calls for the Pens…it’s 100% b#llshit…Plek hooked, PK tripped…

What pisses me off more is we don’t have the muscle to push back when we get pushed…

Aaron Ward has a Sid Bromance too…Verses sucks officially…even Engblom piping in with soft kisses for Sid…

“Save us Turtleneck Man…We need you now more than ever!”

  430. Ron says:

Cry baby Sid is constantily at the refs. They score a goal and he yaps at the ref with those fat lips because he got flattened. Boy he is immature.

  431. TripleX says:

I actually thought the chances were pretty even except for the usual cheap call on the Habs.  If it were not for the cheap PP’s the Habs would be leading the series.

“Good judgement comes from experience, and experience comes from bad judgement.”

  432. zozotheclown says:

Its not that bad that we’re down 1-0, or that the reffing has been a bit iffy, the problem is Fleury looks on his game, I would feel a whole lot better if he had looked shaky. Give a hot goalie a lead and you have a problem, but we know about that all too well.

  433. kempie says:

    Non F. Stop

  434. Harani says:

Lolongo! LMFAO! And Subban apparently told Crosby to quite being a suck!

    “I gotta feeling…that tonight’s gonna be a good night!”

  435. Tis Himself says:

Good road period. We had some really good chances. Call on Gorges was softer than baby poop. How come we never get the benefit of one of those?

  436. Bryan says:

Jesus Christ.  Aren’t you tired of getting banned?  Go away.

The Habs are making me Bi-Polar.

  437. longtimehabsfan says:

Halak has to stay focused on the puck.  What Guerin is doing is perfectly legal.  Don’t worry about shoving him out.  Letang is chirping with the Francophones on our team.  Wonder what they are saying to each other in French.

  438. Puck Bard says:

If this goes according to odds, I hope Blackhawks clean his clock.

  439. Chuck says:

Because we don’t have a superstar that rides the ref’s asses.

Cheer for the crest on the front of the jersey, not the name on the back.

  440. longtimehabsfan says:

Push back with hockey.  They’re trying to rattle us with the physical stuff.  Stay focused.  Score a goal and the Pens will get frustrated that their hits around working.

  441. danhabsfan says:

Isn’t is amazing that even Cherry is sticking up for the Habs… tells you the refs are blowing it AGAIN.

There is still room and time for the Good Guys to come back.

Keep pushing boys… it will come.

  442. Rainrocket16 says:

It never ends….refs are up 1-0

  444. Tis Himself says:

The only difference between the refs in the NHL and those of FIFA is that the latter wear shorts!

  445. Ron says:

I’m not counting us out of this series, it may be us playing the Hawks. But the odds certainly are not in our favor. Anything can happen. I goal at the start of the second will change the tide a lot in our favour.

  446. Grabbed The Cup says:

Because our team is in Canada and it’s not fiscally important that we win.

You leave me little notes on my pillow. Told you 158 times I can’t stand little notes on my pillow. “We’re all out of cornflakes. F.U.” Took me three hours to figure out F.U. was Felix Unger!

  451. danhabsfan says:

How come we can’t seem to get a big guy in front of the net?

The last game, we scored without it, but that is unusual.  Go the net Boys!

  452. TripleX says:

Excellent question.  Ask Pouliot.  When he first came over from the Wild he was always going to the dirty areas. NOW???

“Good judgement comes from experience, and experience comes from bad judgement.”

  453. isirota1965 says:

It’s going to be awfully tough to beat the Pens AND the officials.

At least most everyone on this site does not have to watch the game on Versus which, like the officials, appears to be on the Penguins’ payroll.

  454. solsub says:

Don Cherry taking our side… love it.

  455. gumper says:

I missed the penalty call on the Pens. Against who, for what?

  457. duffy says:

Cross checking on Gorges ,butCherry said it was a dive by Guerin and i agree.Getting screwed over again by Bettmans Goons.

  458. Bryan says:

  506. Somethingwithhabsinit says:

The amount of whining going on here puts Crosby to shame. Is there anything that isn’t the refs fault? We got jobbed last game. This time, calls and no-calls are going both ways. Suck it up.

  507. hablifting says:

What’s funny is as much as Sidney complains on the ice, he’s actually out there trying to win a game/series/cup.  The yahoos on here?  Whining at a brick wall for all the good it will do.

  508. Clay4bc says:

All hail Jaro – that would have been a back-breaker. HUGE SAVE!

  509. Habitant in Surrey says:

…WHAT can be said about Jaro …that hasn’t already been said ?

    …another pedestrian WOW ! …?

  510. JasonM says:

    Stop falling so easy Crosby

  511. PrimeTime says:

    STFU SID!!

  512. JasonM says:

Fleury looks very beatable, just not putting their stick down.

  513. Peter Young says:

Man, we can’t buy a goal.  Sheesh.  So close so many tmes.

  514. longtimehabsfan says:

    Moore:  Acquistion of the year.

  515. crabvader says:

I don’t know how the hell god damn Cooke got away with that bullcrap he pulled on Gomez after he got decked. WHAT THE HELL!!!!

  516. longtimehabsfan says:

  517. Puck Bard says:

Ya give them that much room to work what to think will happen?

  518. PrimeTime says:

Fu&k i’m not liking this game!

  519. JasonM says:

This is what happens when you’re lazy on getting the puck out. Absolutely lazy.

  520. SeriousFan09 says:

This series is BS, plain and simple.

    – I shall always remember Captain Koivu.

  521. hablifting says:

Pittsburg strategy is paying off.  Tons of guys in front of Halak and bombs from the blue.  Add to that the Habs lack of finish, this is going to be tough.

  522. coachdoug says:

All those missed opportunities are haunting us now…we gotta finish when we get the chance…

“Save us Turtleneck Man…We need you now more than ever!”

  523. zozotheclown says:

They’re the ones cashing the chances tonight, they screen and they shoot, something we seem to have trouble doing.

  524. kempie says:

It’s crazy to think that a team that’s so brutal in their own zone, the can break down our box so easily.

  525. andrewberkshire says:

First goal Pittsburgh has earned since Game 2.

  526. Clay4bc says:

In case anyone missed it…Gomez floating off the ice cost us puck posession, and we never recovered. Lame play by Gomez,

this series is now officially over!

habs gave it a good ride but talent normally wins out.

  528. Harani says:

We play well and we freakin get scored on! Total Bull! Let’s not outshoot the Pens.

    “I gotta feeling…that tonight’s gonna be a good night!”

  529. kempie says:

    Double, sorry I’m excited.

  530. kempie says:

    Darche is a beast tonight.

  531. JasonM says:

All I can think of are those loose pucks in front of Fleury and Hab forwards not having their stick down.

  532. longtimehabsfan says:

    Pens playing or their lives.

  533. Harani says:

Fleury is giving out rebounds like hell…gotta capitalize.

    “I gotta feeling…that tonight’s gonna be a good night!”

  534. crabvader says:

Another pairing of blind bastards who are pretty much M.I.A. on the ice.

    I can’t take this crap.

  535. SeriousFan09 says:

What they need to do is finish a damn scoring chance.

    – I shall always remember Captain Koivu.

  536. JIMVINNY says:

BS.  we had it at their blue line, but Cammi and Pleks got to cute and turned it over.  Had nothing to do with Gomez.

  537. danhabsfan says:

Someone tell Puliot to go to the front of the net

  538. Clay4bc says:

    Watch it again.

“Peoples will only be truly free when the last king is strangled by the bowels of the last priest” Francois Laignelot –

  539. T-roy West says:

Ask Boone to tell him. I think they’re pretty close, lol.

  540. SeriousFan09 says:

He was trying to get Cooke’s broken stick blade out of his pants, literally and Cooke played the puck with his broken stick, CBC was livid.

    – I shall always remember Captain Koivu.

  541. T-roy West says:

Then I take it that this will be your last post since you give up.

  542. danhabsfan says:

Why, everytime the camera shows a Pens player, they are yapping and crying.

Does unsportmasnlike Conduct not exisit anymore?

  543. Rainrocket16 says:

So anyone want hit the links tuesday?

  544. andrewberkshire says:

Halak could use some goal support, time to start cashing on those chances guys.

  545. Chris L says:

Starting to look tired.  A lot of sloppy changes… and no sense of urgency getting to the bench or over the boards & onto the ice.

  546. coachdoug says:

If we learned anything this post season you can’t count the Habs out now…Never know what could happen…Positive vibes…

“Save us Turtleneck Man…We need you now more than ever!”

  547. sidhu says:

Need a PP here, come on boys, we have a tired line out there!

  548. danedmunds says:

a hab would litterally need to have an arm fall off to get a call

  549. Harani says:

    Malkin is a BEAST tonight!

    “I gotta feeling…that tonight’s gonna be a good night!”

  550. Clay4bc says:

    Way better player than Crosby.

“Peoples will only be truly free when the last king is strangled by the bowels of the last priest” Francois Laignelot –

  551. sidhu says:

That play looked offside to me, but since 87 and 71 were on the ice, it was not called

  552. Harani says:

I just wish he would move his feet without just standing and waiting there for the puck to come on his stick.

    “I gotta feeling…that tonight’s gonna be a good night!”

  553. longtimehabsfan says:

The Pens are going all out tonight and with a couple of breaks we could have it tied.

  554. Harani says:

Something tells me that the Habs will get this to OT and win it. Just an instinct feeling I have. Then again, I could be totally wrong but just my gut is telling.

    “I gotta feeling…that tonight’s gonna be a good night!”

  555. andrewberkshire says:

Sure wish Pouliot would go to the net…

  556. kempie says:

second double in 5 mins. Sorry. Kinda worked up.

  557. kempie says:

Pens are sooooo bad in their own end, but sooooo strong at the other end.

  558. Peter Young says:

Double post.  Sorry, don’t know how it happened..

  559. Peter Young says:

Yes, Pouliot needs to throw his weight around a lot more, particularly in front of the net.

  560. Puck Bard says:

Getting a little tired watching Penguins in our zone.

  561. T-roy West says:

Time to change up the lines.

  562. Clay4bc says:

You sure that’s not your heart talking instead of your gut? Either way, I hope you’re right.

“Peoples will only be truly free when the last king is strangled by the bowels of the last priest” Francois Laignelot –

  563. danedmunds says:

i do not like the plek cammy moen line…. gomez gionta and cammy have to get together soon for some regularity

  564. longtimehabsfan says:

If that happens I owe you a T-bone steak dinner!

  565. JIMVINNY says:

    What. a. dive.  Figures.

  566. TorontoHabsFan says:

No worries, we’ll get the best of them in their barn in Game 7!

  567. SeriousFan09 says:

That was a tap and he falls down automatically?

    – I shall always remember Captain Koivu.

  568. danedmunds says:

if that was a hab…. guaranteed dive call

  569. Harani says:

    Very dumb penalty by Moore.

    “I gotta feeling…that tonight’s gonna be a good night!”

  570. Puck Bard says:

Now they’re playing, the dive of the century…

  571. Bryan says:

Two handed slash to the skates of Letang, and you guys are crying for a diving penalty?  Give me a break…

The Habs are making me Bi-Polar.

  572. Puck Bard says:

    HABs means passionate hockey?

  573. hablifting says:

    Pretty good eh?

It’s like this;  You put your stick on the opposing player and you’ve put yourself in great jepoardy of taking a penalty.  Stop doing it.

  574. danedmunds says:

    i smell fleury shutout

  575. Puck Bard says:

    2-zip: could have been worse.

  576. JIMVINNY says:

You and the refs must get along great.  Neither of you can see anything.

  577. Harani says:

    “I gotta feeling…that tonight’s gonna be a good night!”

  578. Matt_in_TO says:

Do they have another 3rd period miracle in them?

    – I Hab Faith

  579. longtimehabsfan says:

Our guys look spent.  JM has to lenghten the bench in the third.  Take his chances.

  580. ooder says:

or you now.. to do anything else productive

“I like what I’m seeing right now,” assessed Markov. “We’re not perfect, but we’re trying to be.”

  581. PrimeTime says:

This one is going to OT!

  582. Chuck says:

Mark my words: this game is going to overtime.

Cheer for the crest on the front of the jersey, not the name on the back.

  583. RudeMood19 says:

I know they’re losing, but they really aren’t playing that bad of a game. We just aren’t cashing in on our chances and Pittsburgh has.

  584. Harani says:

I wish Pouliot would re-join the Habs. Like start scoring all over again a goal a game.

    “I gotta feeling…that tonight’s gonna be a good night!”

  585. Bryan says:

What I saw is Moore hack at the skates of Letang, taking him down.  I also see a bunch of mindless Habs fans acting like children who’d rather believe that the NHL has a vast conspiracy against the team than believe that the Habs are getting outplayed fairly.

The Habs are making me Bi-Polar.

  586. Exit716 says:

I think it’s the fact that every time a single Pens player gets touched they expend tons of energy whining to the officials.

  587. SeriousFan09 says:

I saw a tap on the replay and a swan dive by Letang.

    – I shall always remember Captain Koivu.

  588. topher5468 says:

Pouiot is just about useless, no offensive presence at all. he hasnt even sniffed at a goal, SOFT, no show most of the playoffs, I wish he would show up, we need him despertely

“It’s not an obsession, It’s a way of life..”

  589. punkster says:

Hey Chuck, what’s up with AK tonight? (as opposed to any other night)

  590. Bryan says:

That’s something different entirely.  But I’d agree with you.

The Habs are making me Bi-Polar.

  591. tricolortrue says:

mark my words: you’re on drugs!

  592. Chuck says:

    He’s saving himself for overtime.

Cheer for the crest on the front of the jersey, not the name on the back.

  593. Chuck says:

That’s besides the point. OT still looms…

Cheer for the crest on the front of the jersey, not the name on the back.

  594. AH says:

Both of you guys are so right, sadly what a colossal disappointment Pouliot has been in these playoffs. I’m not a Tits bros. fan, but Pouliot isn’t doing anymore than AK, nd he’s not getting roasted near as much.

  595. sidhu says:

It’s still early, we just need one to get the mo on our side.

    I believe

  596. Clay4bc says:

    Mo’s an old friend of mine – I’ll give him a call…

“Peoples will only be truly free when the last king is strangled by the bowels of the last priest” Francois Laignelot –

  597. ooder says:

we give ak46 a hard time..

    but Pouliot is way worst…

the guy is so lazy, soft and does absoultly nothing

“I like what I’m seeing right now,” assessed Markov. “We’re not perfect, but we’re trying to be.”

  598. hablifting says:

Malkin may have a better physcial toolset, but hockey smarts?  It’s not even close.  Crosby is a much better all around player.

  599. coachdoug says:

Allright the Pens are tired from shooting on our goalie and skating around in our end…we got them right where we want them…

    3-2 Habs crazy baseless prediction…

“Save us Turtleneck Man…We need you now more than ever!”

  600. zozotheclown says:

They scored on their chances, we couldn’t cash, its odd but we seem to do better when we get dominated, time to go back to that next game.

  601. topher5468 says:

Just not getting the bounces, they will go our way, eventually

“It’s not an obsession, It’s a way of life..”

  602. Roy says:

We are getting bounces. Fleury has the worst rebound control in the league but we never have anyone in front or going to the net

  603. Fargo Habs Fan says:

This, my friends, just might be the finest 20 minutes the Habs play in our lifetimes.  Enjoy everyone!

“The good thing about drinking during games is if they lose, you’re too drunk to care during and too hungover to care after.” – J.T.

  604. ooder says:

btw.. that last goal was all on pleks and cammy.

instead of getting it deep they got cute at the blue line.

doesn’t help that Cooke is allowed to kick and punch and then play with a broken stick and nothing gets called.. but hey who’s looking (not the refs that’s for sure)

“I like what I’m seeing right now,” assessed Markov. “We’re not perfect, but we’re trying to be.”

  605. JIMVINNY says:

Careful, if you don’t blame Gomez, you might get in trouble.

  606. Peter Young says:

Have to admit the Pens have been awesome on attack.  But we’ve had our chances and are unlucky not to have scored one or two.  I don’t usually have hatreds in sport–except for the Philadelphia Flyers and, in football, Chelsea–but I’m beginning to hate the Pens, too, Crosby’s continual whining is the reason.  What a pussy.

  607. Rainrocket16 says:

This game was over when the Gorges got nailed for some bullSSSS penalty that I still can’t fathom.. we may rally and tie it up but we will get at least 2 more penalties and they may get one. They make it look even on paper but this series is a meltdown of the NHL, I may never watch hockey again because of this…

I believe……..the NHL has already picked the winner of this series

  608. AH says:

We’re completely flat offensively, Plecky and Cammi look beat out there. We need some serious push in the offensive zone. Sure Fleury’s played well, but we need some forechecking.

  609. Tis Himself says:

    There is always harness racing!

  610. punkster says:

  611. gumper says:

    Or darts…..

  612. alfieturcotte says:

It’s time for Pleks to step up.  He has looked weak in virtually each of the playoff games – have not been at all impressed.  Gomez/Cam/Gionta cannot do it alone.

  613. Bryan says:

Totally agree with you.  I used to love Crosby, but now I see why people hate him.

The Habs are making me Bi-Polar.

  614. Puck Bard says:

    Despair and Die, dude!

  615. longtimehabsfan says:

Guys, this team has Malkin and Crosby and is playing all out tonight.  Give our guys some credit.  The effort is there even if the score is not.

  616. pmaraw says:

    I still believe!!!

  617. Rainrocket16 says:

now my Canadien Friends!! you all know how I felt when you all beat the US in the Olympics. When Crosby scored I wanted to just hang myself… I love Team Canada, I love Team USA, but I always hate pussy whine ass hockey players!!

  618. habber86 says:

pass reception looks terrible for some reason. could be fatigue? Gionta’s fumbled to many passes his way, and Gomez has flubbed so many pass attempts. Gotta sharpen up boys

  619. topher5468 says:

Me too, this team has Character

“It’s not an obsession, It’s a way of life..”

  620. habsoul says:

Cricket! I like my sports on the incomprehensible side.

  621. tricolortrue says:

2nd game in this series habs will be shutout. why? habs are offensively challenged. in the offseason trade all the trash for a couple of scorers. get bigger and get physical players, otherwise dejavue, the same crap next year.

SMURFS=LOSERS! when is this organization going to get the message: WE NEED B I G G E R players!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  622. HFX-HabFan says:

We absolutely have to get the next goal.  Score in the first five minutes and we’re right in this.  And we’ve got to stop Malkin, dude has “woken up” and is playing the way he can.

  623. budachris says:

Anyone wanna bet the Habs are 1 of the 12 teams who are raising ticket prices??

Let’s go get 3 in the third boys I say cammy. bergeron on the pp and Moore with an ugly game winner

  624. longtimehabsfan says:

It’s hard to hate a guy who scored the Golden Goal.  He’s a great player and good for the game.  Great players have whined before and will whine again.  He’s young.  He’ll grow out of it.  Nice to see PK putting him on his butt.

  625. HNS says:

    Too many Passengers tonite.

  626. Castor says:

It’s fans like you that give Montreal a bad name. Truly.
This team has played amazingly well. They are up against the freaking champs and they are missing their best defenseman!! Wow.

  627. topher5468 says:

This team of losers is in the 2nd round tied 2-2 with the defending champs, relax and have some faith. Hockey games are 60 min not 40

“It’s not an obsession, It’s a way of life..”

  628. TripleX says:

I suggest JM reunite our top six forwards.  If we are going to pull this out it will be with the top two lines.  It is not as if the new line combos are pumping in the goals.

“Good judgement comes from experience, and experience comes from bad judgement.”

  629. gumper says:

Right, ’cause there are a lot of teams out there willing to give up scorers for trash.

  630. Tis Himself says:

  631. Slovak says:

They look tired like hell – time to let Halak alone handle defense, go for offense I mean everybody…:)

  632. sidhu says:

Pleks, AK, Benny, have not shown up this series.  Our best players have to be the best, and Pleks has been stifled this series.

  633. andrewberkshire says:

Biggest difference in this series so far, and why we’re behind tonight, is lack of offense from the defense. Without Markov and Spacek everyone else has a bigger role, and we’re so focused on making safe plays that our defenders never get good shots.

  634. AH says:

Totally agree! Smurfs and a pop gun offense…not a good combination.

  635. HNS says:

Malkin woke up cause someone needs to change Cindy’s diaper.

  636. longtimehabsfan says:

I must be watching a different game.  Habs are being overmatched by a team that has more talent.

  637. habber86 says:

Third line seems to be the only one generating any sustained pressure at all in the Pitt zone. That Moore, Pouliot, Lapierre line is responsible for some chances and most of our possession time. I sense an ugly one from them in the third.

  638. Peter Young says:

Yeah, right, teams can score twice in sudden death overtime. . . NOT.

  639. punkster says:

    You win!!!

  640. Tis Himself says:

Yep, two in the third to tie it and a conversion in OT!

  641. Roy says:

We give up the neutral zone too easily

he was invisible for the Wash series. he was horrible!

    excuses are for losers!

  649. duffy says:

Where in the hell is PLEKANIC,POULIOT,KOSTITSYN, are they even there tonight.

  650. Clay4bc says:

I disagree…i think we’re just up against a team that know what it takes to win. We have to be better next time. Or in the third would be nice.

  657. ABHabsfan says:

Nice dead-pan comment, Bob, on the save of the game! Jaro!

  658. hockeydoc says:

canadiens getting schooled tonight. penguins forwards freewheel in our zone – they don’t have to worry about getting hit. we are too slow clearing the puck out and only effective line is lapierre’s.

  659. longtimehabsfan says:

Keep looking on the replay of Gonchar’s goal.  No way anyone would have stopped that.

  660. TripleX says:

Have to hand it to Blyesma and the Pens. He worked out a plan to shoot from the blueline and to block out Halak.  Good coaches adapt.

“Good judgement comes from experience, and experience comes from bad judgement.”

  661. JIMVINNY says:

Halak had no chance.  He was completely screened.

  662. TripleX says:

Did JM bench O’Byrne again?  I don’t recall seeing him and MAB is on the ice a LOT.

  665. SeriousFan09 says:

He was trying to get a broken stick blade that was wedged in his pants by Cooke out, who played the puck with a broken stick btw.

    – I shall always remember Captain Koivu.

  666. TripleX says:

Come on dude be honest.  Gomez WAS dogging it to the bench and that allowed the Pens to enter the zone easily.

“Good judgement comes from experience, and experience comes from bad judgement.”

  667. punkster says:

    Never mind.

  668. punkster says:

Not how I saw it. What I saw was Gomez getting dragged down, the Pens player’s stick wedging in Gomez’ equipment and breaking, Gomez getting untangled and heading off. No dogging.

  669. Chuck says:

    And to shoot high, too.

Cheer for the crest on the front of the jersey, not the name on the back.

  670. TripleX says:

Yes, high laser shots because Halak really blocks the bottom of the net.  That is why he is regarded as one of the best young coaches in the league.  He is innovative and creative.

“Good judgement comes from experience, and experience comes from bad judgement.”

  671. Chuck says:

    Innovative and creative?

“Hey guys, their goalie is hitting the ice everytime we shoot from the point. Shoot high.”

    Yeah, he’s a genius.  😉

Cheer for the crest on the front of the jersey, not the name on the back.

  672. TripleX says:

That chubby guy in Washington could never figure it out.  LMAO

“Good judgement comes from experience, and experience comes from bad judgement.”

  673. topher5468 says:

Thats what i mean, were getting a lot of bounces, just no breaks, we have been there but the bounces are bouncing away from us

“It’s not an obsession, It’s a way of life..”

  674. Clay4bc says:

Hush, child. The puck was passed to Gomez. He floated off, thus the puck was lost. As I said, look again. Or does your Halak blindness extend to this as well?

  681. CharlieHodgeFan says:

Maybe. I watch in French. But man, it’s been said so many times, why add to it? Point gotten.

  682. andrewberkshire says:

Weaaaaak call on Malkin, and a smart embellishment by Gorges. We’d better take advantage.

  683. hablifting says:

I was about to say the same thing, but held it.  Didn’t want to feel the rage of the tin foil hat crowd.

  684. Rainrocket16 says:

punches to the face are legal?

  685. joeybarrie says:

Im sorry to say I have given up on tonight. I dont see any way back in this.

There may be other teams, but only ONE Club De Hockey…

Orpik gets away with a lot

pretty safe to say that the penguins get a away with a lot

  687. danhabsfan says:

It’s not over, but we need one to start.

Shots are too easy for Fluery to see.  Need traffic badly

  689. HNS says:

    Can’t buy a goal tonite.

  690. JasonM says:

Moan going to the bench points exactly what is going on with the Montreal Canadiens. Too much bench management or gassed out. I’m just not seeing a comeback with this work ethic tonight.

  691. habsoul says:

It’s a lot about the roll of the puck tonight. Fleury is like a trampoline.

  692. zozotheclown says:

This game was must-win for them, and not really for us, probably why we’re seeing what we’re seeing. Not enough driving the net, nice saves by Fleury but we made his life pretty easy.

  693. andrewberkshire says:

First time Fleury has outplayed Halak in this series.

  694. JasonM says:

No one, at ALL is in front of the net with their stick down. Everytime I seen a white jersey near a rebound, his stick is no where near where it needs to be, by the time, they get their stick down they can’t get anything on net.

  695. andrewberkshire says:

Guerin trips Malkin and the fans call for a penalty: dumbest fans in hockey.

  696. danhabsfan says:

Is it me, or do the guys look like they do not have any “fire”

  697. TripleX says:

Look, I know Pouliot is soft and has been a huge disappointment.  BUT JM!!!  We are behind by two goals in the third, not playing AK and Pouliot on the top lines to prove a point is DUMB.

“Good judgement comes from experience, and experience comes from bad judgement.”

  698. andrewberkshire says:

Disagree, Fleury’s rebounds are all completely controlled, always bounced away from Habs players, or into the corners.

  699. JasonM says:

Why do they ALWAYS stop when they are inside the Pens blue line? They always kill the play doing that. They know what is going on, they’ll block the pass and a weak wrister from the blue line doesn’t provide goals often. Make their life more complicated on their end.

  700. topher5468 says:

Crunch time and Pouiiot is stapled to the bench, Can we put Darche’s heart in Benny’s body.

  701. JVF says:

A valiant effort, but how about a little offense — Andreï? Benoît? Tom? Someone?

  702. danhabsfan says:

Not true.  He has had easy saves.  Halak has had to make harder saves.  The 2 goals were screened – no chance.

  703. Tighthead says:

    Gill does not sound well

  704. topher5468 says:

    Agree, 1000%

“It’s not an obsession, It’s a way of life..”

  705. Clay4bc says:

I don’t think he had, Andrew…the Pens have had by far the better chances. Have we had even one clean look at the goalie?

GILL IS OUT!   Cue the miracle comeback for the ages.  UGGGGG

“Good judgement comes from experience, and experience comes from bad judgement.”

  707. SeriousFan09 says:

Gill seen in his suit, he isn’t coming back.

But since he was standing without aid, doesn’t look like a tendon injury. But I wouldn’t be shocked to see Markov braced and Spacek on for Game 6 considering potential stakes.

    – I shall always remember Captain Koivu.

  708. danhabsfan says:

They seem to just be going thru the motions now- Why?!

  709. JasonM says:

They are losing battles all the time. 3 on 1 and they can’t get the puck.

  710. zozotheclown says:

Gill better be out to give time for fresh stitches to heal, because if he’s out we’re out…

  711. knucklesnilan says:

We are definitely screwed now, Gill is in his suit.

    Go Habs Go !!

  712. JIMVINNY says:

Rupp – totally holds PK.  No call.  what a shock.

  713. JasonM says:

I expect more from our top 2 lines. They have made an ordinary Fleury look great twice in 3 games. Stop playing like underdogs and score some DAMN GOALS.

  714. topher5468 says:

Why doesnt MAB just shoot on his own net, save the drama

  716. longtimehabsfan says:

Pull Jaro now on the PP

  717. andrewberkshire says:

Actually we’ve outshot and outchanced the Penguins in this game. Fleury was excellent in this game.

  718. andrewberkshire says:

Neither goal was that big of a screen on Halak, but ok. Fleury has faced more shots and more scoring chances than Halak has tonight.

  719. Nina76 says:

No  they did not have the fire to-nite as you say but give them credit for being where they are, they can pick it up when they come home………..I can feel it………….GO HABS GO !!!!!!

  720. andrewberkshire says:

If that call went against us this site would go nuts.
