Call it a learning experience for Carey Price.
Tonight in San Jose, as Canadiens began a four-game western swing, the 20-year-old goaltender played like a rookie.
San Jose crowded Price. The Sharks knocked him around. And it affected Price’s concentration, which suffered lapses – none more egregious than on the 60-foot shot by Jody Shelley that gave the Sharks a lead they did not relinquish.
Canadiens showed heart. The battled back to tie three times, and Maxim Lapierre made it a one-goal game in the third period.
But Canadiens’ league-leading power play went 0-for-7. San Jose scored twice with the man advantage.
And Evgeni Nabokov was better than Price.
On to Phoenix. And maybe a start for Jaroslav Halak … but I suspect Guy Carbonneau will come back with his number-one guy.
