If Andrei Markov is out – and he left the rink on crutches – well …
In seven games, the Caps scored one power-play goal.
Pittsburgh had four in 34 minutes
How are you correct that they matched up better against Washington than those other teams? While they played well against Washington, they did not play a series against any of those others yet to prove how they would have done against them. With the way they played in round one, perhaps they could have beat some of those other teams too, maybe even in less than 7 games? Hard to really say for sure. I agree with your other comments. It is certainly all fun and gravy at this point.
Metropolit had 5 shifts the last game and only 9 shifts in each of the games before that. Does he really need to be rested or to be singled out for questioning on the freshness of his legs?
Is there concern of fatigue with the goalies for the other teams advancing in the playoffs? The remaining goalies played the whole 1st series for their teams except for Luongo who was relieved by Raycroft for 24:38. Boucher is the only one of them with less TOI than Halak (since Philly only played 5 games). I don’t read or hear folks questioning fatigue for those other goalies. Is Halak that frail?
Every team feels the same way about Lee. Same as it was with Fraser. The guy is just a mess and you never know which way it’s gonna go. Although Lee has been pretty bad towards us this year so maybe it’s time the other team gets jobbed.
chris F lee, bob F cole, and matt F cooke. should be a pretty interesting friday night
had habs in 6 last round because A) i was overjoyed and didn’t care how they really did so i thought the positive karma couldn’t hurt, B) i didn’t put any real money down anyway, and C) i honestly thought they could give ovie and his pals a lot of trouble like they did in the regular season.
plus ca change, plus c’est la meme chose
Habs in 6 because A) i am once again overjoyed and don’t care how they do, so the positive karma can’t hurt, B) i can’t afford to put any real money down anyway, and C) i honestly think they could give sid and his pals a lot of trouble like they did the last 2 times they played regular season. Pens won 3rd game on a weak, deflating and far too long over-the-shoulder shot on price that came after hordes of habs had kept pressure on pens for 30min. Mtl won 4th game with “authoritah”. Pens were good vs OTT and sid put on a show but i’ll take gio, gomer, gill and moen’s experience over spezz, alfredson, and chris neil any day.
big factor to me will be escaping the zone without too many giveaways; knocking guys down or off halak like they did vs WAS, because you know there’s going to be some serious crease crowding/running/pileups going on; and of course, bring lots of ice, because pens will dump and chase and drive the D into the boards more in the first game then the caps did all series with their cross-the-blue-line-and-shoot routine.
take it to em, boys!
they disallowed one of ours in the same game so they made it even
IMO, He played well in the beginning of the series but his play saged as the series wore on, he wasnt very good in game 7, to me, he looked slugish, failed to clear the zone numerous times when he had the chance and over stickhandled instead on getting the puck deep. He also keeps shooting high, hes got a great shot but most times he misses the net. Theres no doubt we need him to have a good series.
“It’s not an obsession, It’s a way of life..”
IS THAT CHRIS LEE REFFING TONIGHT!?!?
The torch be yours to hold it high!
Before the play offs started, I thought we matched up better against Washington than Pitts, Buff, or NJ. It happens that I was correct but I am not as sure that we can match the depth of the Pens.
Washington is a one dimensional squad, but the Pens are a more rounded hockey club. The challenge is more difficult for sure. But it can be done!
At any rate, any success that we might have going forward is pure gravy, enjoy the ride boys and girls. We have not had as much fun in many years.
A point a game – never missed a shift – a few hits – a few blocked shots(!!) – skated as well in Game 7 as Game 1. It’s not funny, just true. Try to focus a little more on what you’re watching.
i could care less if the habs get ousted in 4. no one expected the habs to be here, a good long series would be great, a win would be historic and unbelievable. and all a loss means is that a team that worked its ass off got beat 4 times by the defending champs. no shame in that. ovie doesnt have what it takes. sid the kid gets what he wants, he makes it happen.
A pivotal goal in a game 7 was waved off in the habs favour and people STILL complain about the refs BEFORE the game has started. I would love to see the Canadiens record when Lee is working the game because I bet it’s not as bad as everyone thinks. Lets face it, the habs have had their fair share of calls go their way in the last 100 years. IMO anyone who whines about the NHL conspiring against the Canadiens need help.
I called Habs in 7 vs WSH. Now Habs in 7 vs PIT. Good Luck, Boys!
Pittsburgh won the cup last year and went to the finals the year before that. So, yes, it is fair to say they are a better playoff team than Washington.
lol ur joking right? haha good one
I called Washington in 5 too, this time I’m calling Pittsburgh in 4.
How can anyone complain about the ‘conspiracy’ against the habs after the disallowed goal in game 7….common be realistic
bettman must be scared for his little sidney so he’s putting chris lee on reffing duty tonight to ensure we don’t get the victory.
- What if Jaro Halak’s hand was indeed shaking? What if you took the CHOKE out of Ovechkin? — History Will Be Made
from what im reading in the media, it means absolutely nothing that washington was a better team than the pens all year. somehow the pens are a bigger challenge than the caps. dont get me wrong, i agree than pitt is a great team, and are the cup champs, but washington was a super fav to win it all. that means they were favs over pitt. so why is it that the pens are all of a sudden better than the caps? i guess the regular season does indeed mean zipperella. get in the playoffs and you can win it all, i hear it all the time. the media switches its opinions as it sees fit. flipflopppers like politicians. this little rant has let me release some nervous energy, thank you.
go habs go.
Pumped for tonite … I’d like to see AK be a little more consistant in the offensive zone .. not to take away from his hat trick .. but he could be a force if he really wanted it ! the dude’s a moose !
I had started to laugh but caught myself- this is very possible!
-Dustin- “The good thing about drinking during games is if they lose, you’re too drunk to care during and too hungover to care after.” – J.T.
Whoah, check out the table in the link Boone posted. As the season progresses, Crosby’s +- drops steadily from +3 to -2, and his shot total collapses from 9 to ZERO.
Seems like we can contain him, no? I’d refer to myself as cautiously optimistic, but that handle’s been taken.
The fix is in!
My thoughts on the series with the Caps:
1. Halak was simply phenomenal & a bit lucky when he needed to be.
2. Ovie was well contained by Gill, Gorges & Spacek. Anyone think Bob signing Gill was a bad move now?.
3. Backstrom was MIA since getting creamed by OB. OB should have started the series. To JM’s credit, he made the necessary adjustments on D, but I wonder if his decision to insert OB in the lineup may have been different if Spacek was good to go.
4. Laps starting to bring it ever night.
5. Signing Moore was a great move. Gauthier is a very astute hockey man. The team is in excellent hands heading into a busy summer when lots of decisions will have to be made.
6. Gionta & Gomez excellent on the PK and defensively. Their offensive contributions were impeccably timed.
7. Cammy? What a pure sniper this guy is. Reminds me of the Rocket.
8. Calling up PK to bolster the D was a smart and gutsy move. To all the doubters out there, you’ll never get anywhere without making some bold decisions. Be bold!
9. The non-interference call in game 2 came back to haunt the Caps. What goes around……
Hey Mike, what’s the storey on Pleks? I noticed that he was being used sparingly by JM in the last 3 games or maybe I just didn’t notice him. He wasn’t very involved. Conscious decision or undisclosed injury?
Don’t know what series you were watching, but AK46 played very well.
Chris Lee tonight.
That will ruin peoples Friday.
You must be a Caps of Laffs fan. Fact of the matter is the Caps, and Knuble in particular were on borrowed time for all their net crashing. Live by the sword, die by the sword.
hey hey cinderella there should be in a red habs dress or something
I want Laps to totally dominate Sidney!
Is it possible to file a complaint about a referee’s work in a game before he actually refs it?
only? i’ve hated him since the lockout!
can’t believe chris lee made the playoffs this year, and it’s all cause of the retiring refs.
Cris Lee will start a riot in the city of Montreal before this series is over…….
After a long emotional playoff series which invloved me doing very little calculus, I’m fairly certain I just failed an exam. Oh well, I still have a final to look forward too. Plus, the instructor lets us drop 1 grade.
I don’t want to play any of the remaining teams because I don’t think we match up well against them. But, for some reason, I believe in magic and can’t wait to see how it unfolds. GO HABS GO!
“The good thing about drinking during games is if they lose, you’re too drunk to care during and too hungover to care after.” – J.T.
i hate chris lee, and this all dates back to when the habs tied it up against the penguins and chris lee disallowed it…
follow me on twitter — http://twitter.com/spoons91
Very upset that the NHL would let Chris Lee anywhere near another Habs game, much less the opening game of a series between us and the Pens, the very team against which he screwed us right out of an obvious goal by changing his mind after the whistle. If the NHL insists on keeping him around for round 2, he should be reffing the Boston-Philly series, where there will be plenty of dirty plays to call penalties on.
Habs hockey = Smart hockey
both big ‘tits and little ‘tits are history.
when Cammy said after game 7 “our guys want to keep on playing”,
the brothers Grimm were not front and center in his thoughts – guaranteed not.
I want Laps to take the opening face off and Butt end Crosby in the Belly again, just to remind him.
If the series gets past game 5 in Pittsburgh, we are in business.
I don’t see the habs losing game 6 at home – and picking “pencils” in 6, well that’s just too ugly for me to accept.
If Pitt wins its in 5 or 7.
if habs win its in 6.
HABS IN FREAKIN 6!!!!!!!!!
now that I have calmed down a bit. here is my thought for this series.
THIS IS ANDY MARKOV’s SERIES!!!!
everyone who lives between Cornwall and the Saguenay thinks Markov is a world class d-man.
MARKOV CAN AND WILL NEED TO SHUT DOWN CROSBY.
if the pundits are wondering why Markov has never been nominated for a Snorris trophy at the end of this series,
and we are worried about how we will afford paying him his next contract at the end of this series,
WE WIN THE SERIES.
and one other thing – thanks Boone for this “Jordan Staal is the best third-line centre in the league”.
I agree. I wouldn’t mind seeing Staal in a Habs uniform!!
He must have really pissed off JM! It isn’t as if he’s any worse defensively than MAB…
For those wondering about Halak’s fatigue, when he took over this season, he could go 4-6 games playing great and then stink for a game or two…at that point he needed one game off to either re-focus or get angry again for not playing. That happened in Game #2 and #3 of the Caps series…if he looks shaky for Games #3 or #4 in a loss, Price should get the next game for Halak to re-focus and/or re-anger.
The Pens play a different game…the Habs may be scrambling more in their zone but at least the shot counts will be less lopsided since the Pens play less run-and-gun.
By the way…does anyone know if CBC still broadcasts HNIC on the radio? If so, what frequency?
“I am guilty of using elipses…”
Renewing the old Lapierre-Crosby rivalry going back to their Q days… I wonder if Lappy can possibly get into Sid’s head like he used to. Somehow I doubt it.
Mike Boone, hockey expert and ladies man. No…wait.
In my experience, momentum is as powerful a force as fatigue. If the guys keep playing tough and nasty in front, and make sure Jaro doesn’t get abused, and gets a look at the puck, he will keep feeling it and keep rolling.
I am more worried about fatigue with the D. Because if the Pens can assert themselves in the slot, bump Jaro and create screens and scrambles, then we’re in trouble. If Pittsbugh pops a couple of quick ones, and Jaro loses his momentum THAT’s when fatigue becomes a factor. It’s the emotional let down that comes from a couple of goals against that really start to make you feel worn down.
So, Gill, Georges, O’Byrne, Markov…don’t lose that nasty edge!
Jacques Martin will put a very tender part of his anatomy into a Cuisinart before he inserts SK74 anywhere but the pressbox.
I wonder if JM will rest Metro and insert SK74 back into the lineup. We could use some fresh legs. I have no idea what is going to happen. Unlike Washington, where I thought we’d have to steal a couple of games, I think the healthy Habs can skate with these guys. I would not be shocked to see either team win in 5, 6 or 7 games.
Beat Washington? Impossible!
Beat the Penguins? Improbable!
“Once you eliminate the impossible, whatever remains, no matter how improbable, must be the Canadiens.”Sherlock Holmes
Cherry …. JARO Havlat
I really hope he matt cooke gets his faced bashed on his way to the bell center, i say we stone the pos
Didn’t stop Cherry from saying “Havlak” missed it because of the screen when it was actually a Pleks deflection… what a clown.
- I shall always remember Captain Koivu.
Boone, how is that a perfectly legal hit? Markov didn’t have the puck anymore and Cooke came at him sideways without any indication he was going to slow down. Markov turned to face Cooke and put up his arms a second too late. Cooke consequently ran away from the music thereafters, skated away from Gomez! GOMEZ! Of all people.
He’s a gutless puke.
lol WTF CBC, this is horrible they can’t even get the clips right.
Man CBC is soooo incompetent. Just a bunch of government lollygaggers!
Cherry can’t even pronounce Jaro’s name correctly, I think the bigot does it on purpose and of course McLean dosen’t correct him.
….and how the hell does Burke get mentioned in the frickin playoffs?
”You miss 100% of the shots you never take.” – Wayne Gretzky
Everything Cherry is saying tonight is blowing my mind!
He’s really lost 100% of his mind.
Maguire > Cherry
The Stall goal was weak, stop trying to be nice. He was deep in his net and down early. Definitely not the same way he had been playing the last 3 games. The first goal was just a great shot from Gonchar.
I heard that too. Clinically brean-dead.
Looks like hamrlik’s PP brutalness has carried over from the first round.I hope markov’s injury isn’t serious cause i’m not looking forward to seeing markov being replaced by MABkov
Who the HELL cares about Big Mouth Burke! He and his team are irrelevant! JEESH!
Hey, if I can nail an asshole at pickup, these guys should be able to do it.
“They let him see all the shots!”
He says, showing a clip with 2 caps and 2 habs in Jaro’s way.
I hear he’s friends with Thomas Jagr
“Peoples will only be truly free when the last king is strangled by the bowels of the last priest” Francois Laignelot -
Any word on Markov. Versus said his right knee appeared to buckle from the hit.
Notice how he neglected to mention PK is a habs fan and loved being drafted here.
McGuire is the lesser of the two evils, for sure. Cherry is like a car wreck though. For whatever reason, we all seem to tune in even though we know are blood will get boiling.
Travelocity is really pissed because they have a smokin’ new ad campaign and MAB is unavailable!
OMFG….retire the whole bunch of incompetent CBC hacks. Anyone who said the CBC coverage is better than TSN is dreaming. What a joke, they should be embarrassed to call themselves professional broadcasters. What the hell was that?
And talk about an anti Montreal bias……can they make it anymore transparent?
Staal’s goal went off a Habs glove.
CBC says lower body (of course), out for the game at least. It was Friedman reporting it, and he’s probably the only intelligent commentator working for HNIC.
Put Cooke in a wheelchair.
“Hey Richard, two minutes for looking so good!”
I forget who said it, but it’s true. Pens don’t look as scary as the Caps.
Prediction: SK74 is back for Game 2.
Why doesn’t someone just snap a puck at Cooke’s face? It’s incidental to the game and will do far more damage than a punch ever will. Just wait for the chance and boom. Instant cosmetic surgey candidate!
Just got in and only caught the last minute of the first. I missed PK’s first goal!
Just saw the Markov replay. How many guys does Cooke have to take out before the league does something about that bastard!
- I Hab Faith
Markov has a history of back troubles, and I wouldn’t be surprised to see that the back is the problem now. All may not be lost though – Spacek should be ready for next game at least, and that’s a pretty decent “call-up” to have.
Pitts is playing good playoff hockey though. They know what it takes to win the cup, and are doing it to perfection – finishing checks, forcing the play, taking away time and space. We need to elevate our game. I wonder if they are feeling a little let-down after the emotional game 7 win…?
Not too good. Barely any offensive presence. Pitts PP, really prepared for Mtl’s PK. Already more goals than Caps had in 7 games. Not a lot of jump. It doesn’t look good for Markov. Looks like we’ll be seeing a lot more of MAB and PK. One thing is good, one is very bad.
A hard slapshot from MAB would give him a nice nose job.
On both goals Jaro was too deep in the crease.
Just got back in from a long day guys. missed all of the first. Was Jaro to fault on anything? how are they looking. And did Chris F. Lee have anything to do with it?
“I gotta feeling…that tonight’s gonna be a good night!”
Habs are in deep trouble if Markov is out for any time. Pens will simply devour MAB.
Jaro at fault? Not at all. Heavy screen on both goals.
Oh my god Don……
Who the hell is Havlak?!?
Who the hell is Havlak?
DON CHERRY IS A DOUCHE.
And I’m in Kingston so I know.
Pittsburgh was very well prepared for the Habs. See the net presence in front of Halak. Cooke’s hit was pretty innocent. Terrible luck…………Is Cherry calling Halak, Havlat?
Nothing wrong with the Cooke hit in my mind, folks. It is time to be subjective about that hit.
It would suck to lose Markov, but I saw nothing illegal there.
Calling Gomez on a roughing penalty after Markov got injured was pure bs.
Should’ve been coincidentals cause Gomez wasn’t the only one doing the roughing.
Against us? Staal makes a HUGE difference.
What a dive. Holy crap how stupid are these refs?
Maybe – I kind of looked away for a minute – probably to get another beer, which is maybe why I’m not tracking this as well as I should I could have sworn it went into the players’ bench, I thought nothing of it, grabbed a beer, then I come back and Gionta’s in the box, followed by another Pittsburgh PP goal.
I am duly impressed. Much better regrouping this period. Starting to frustrate the Pens.
On the bright side, Subban looks great!
“Peoples will only be truly free when the last king is strangled by the bowels of the last priest” Francois Laignelot -
Scott Morrison and the other guy whose name escapes me cover things with an emphasis on the CBC game blog and tweets and such. They read a few quotes from the CBC game blog. Stuff like “Red light Halak” and lame naysaying like that. Cherry comes on and says that he thinks it’s pathetic that HNIC is reduced to reporting the ramblings of a bunch of Know nothing morons. I for once in my life agreed with him.
Of course the obvious joke is “They give you air time every week,Don. What’s the big deal?”
Left completely alone.
COMON that’s a DIVE!!!
If anyone blames Halak for that then I will punch you out.
and thats all she wrote… thank you chris lee and gary bettman
My late brother put it on everything including scrambled eggs. The only thing he was particular about was making tuna salad with Miracle Whip. He swore that Helman’s mayonaise sucked.
Price, if only to keep Halaks confidence up plz, we need him to rest and come back as super Halak.
They did actually. They even acknowledged the Habs have a right to be exhausted.
You are so right but left out divers extreme. And F**** CBC I watch RDS.We ARE a better team than than these bunch of aholes
Terrible coverage by Gionta.
It made me feel better when Washington swept us in four. Er, wait…
Jeff Marek! Thanks!
A lame play by AK46 lead to that goal…
just hurt someone, preferably cooke
AK can’t even shoot the puck deep?
Pyatt needs to work with lead pucks this summer.
Gord Miller would be great with Garry Galley, in my opinion. I find that Galley offers solid commentary based on a lengthy playing career. TSN’s coverage thus far has (again, in my opinion) far outclassed that of the mighty CBC.
That was UGLY “D”.
I have no issues with the way they’re playing. Not too bad really for a tired team. A couple of good night’s sleep and they may actually give these Pens a scare on Sunday.
What nobody gets about the schedule is that if they gave every team that plays 7 games an extra 2 or 3 days off the playoffs wouldnt end until July!!! For christsake it’s not a conspiracy… it’s business and logistics.
They’ll pick themselves up, dust themselves off and start planning how to deal with a different type of adversary. Give them time, they’ll be fine.
Weak clear by AK46 led to that goal. Never got it deep on the line change. Mistake = goal
Its always possible, we’ve done 5, its just rare. If Laps’ screen shot slipped in there we’d have a 1 goal game with 5 min left, unfortunately we have a PK with 5 min left lol….
He used to host Leafs Lunch on AM640 with Bill Watters, he’s such a Leafboy, it’s nauseating.
That’s on AK. He didn’t get the puck deep enough on the dump, then a slow habs change….
It’s a bloody disgrace.
It went over the penalty box glass, thats the bench you saw
Hate the way we get running around and unable to clear then the puck pops in the air. This is going to be one heck of a series methinks.
Dude, Chris Lee, why bother asking?
Halak needs a rest, this is ridiculous. Every scoring chance for the Penguins goes in.
Kostitsyn now responsible for 2 GA from two weak-a$$ dump-ins on line changes.
The only reason your lips don’t move when you read is because you can’t read.
That was the killer
If JM and co. can adjust and fix the PK, and the Habs can stay out of the box as best they can, they can take this series.
I liked when Gomez’s pass to Cammalleri became a bonce of the boards. My 7 year old thinks he just makes up stuff.
Watching Versus, I have just added a few guys to my death list right after Jack Edwards!
I guess a make-up for Lappy’s embellishment.
That should NOT have happened! AK46 blew that one BIGTIME!
Markov is probably gone for the series, if not the playoffs. Although he’s among the top five D in the league, he’s injury prone and durability is an issue.
I’d start Price on Sunday and give Halak a rest.
Gainey is at these games for a reason. The Habs are getting primed to do some deals this summer and Sequin is the prize.
Brilliant line change….AK is useless.
I got your back.
Exactly, we had to win against the Caps with special teams alone, tonight will be the worst our special teams and goaltending could possibly be, an we’re only behind by two.
I still think they should check AK46′s nose for white powder.
They all should work with heavy pucks, Cournoyer did it with a steel one growing up and look at his career.
I would like to see Darche inserted next game over (the injured) Metro. While the lack of recent game action would likely put him a step behind others on the ice; I assume he’d get up to speed in short order. Darche is a competitive personality that will challenge the Penguins more than some others on the ice.
Darche will lead us to the promised land!
Aaaaargh. Spoke too soon.
“I believe in miracles,
since you came along,
He may need a rest, but you’re implying it’s Halak’s fault? Please…I know your aganda, Andrew.
I remember the old Sky Rink on the 13th floor of that office building on 33rd Street. I always liked skating toward the end that had the huge mirror. It was a great help on breakaways to see who was behind you.
There wasn’t a Habs player 10 feet from that d-man. Left all alone.
We’ve been a lot closer to death than after tonight’s game. I just hope whatever Markov is suffering from can be cured by the miracle drug ice.
Kostitsyn and Pouliot really aggravating me tonight. It’s embarrassing when the whole team is giving it all but they’re dogging it.
This quick turnaround is absolutely killing them. The NHL scheduale maker did them no favours
To be fair, if you don’t want a short turnaround, win in six or fewer games.
My thoughts exactly. I hate to get down on guys but both those plays are just stupid. Get the puck in deep, especially in the second when you have the longer change.
With Marky seemingly gone and Spacek still out (does anyone know how much longer) … yikes!
Still, positives include sparkling goaltending for next year (both our lads!). O’Byrne is playing like we only hoped for, Moore (oh please let’s sign him), Pyatt a good 4th liner, the resurgence of Lappy, heroic work by Gill, Georges, and – yes Hammer, and can’t you just wait to see PK’s level of play by the end of next year.
On the downside, AK is a waste of skin. Two goals were the result of unpressured dump ins that went awry. Is there an easier play in hockey than shooting the puck into the corner? Guess we’ll save some cap space by waving the two Kostitsyn boys goodbye.
We ain’t done but can’t you feel the upside to this team going forward into next year?
4 goals on 17 shots.. Yikes…
Andrei’s draft prospects originally fell out of top 5 due to epilepsy issues, does he need to see a doctor about new treatment? Honestly it seems like there is something throwing him off in every part of the game. There’s enigmatic performances, there’s not caring but something just seems wrong with him.
wow… Halak and team look exhausted.
genious buttman can’t compete with the other sports in the states and has to make this ridiculous schedule for the habs.
my dad thinks (and i am starting to agree) that JM should have started price and played sk, darche and maxwell for this game and given mroe time to faster guys
simply to keep up the pace and give the main guys a rest
“I like what I’m seeing right now,” assessed Markov. “We’re not perfect, but we’re trying to be.”
More likely weed. He looks like a stoner…coke-heads have much more energy.
I can’t wait for a full season of Subban next year, he looks like a star in the making. And Pouliot needs an offseason too get in better shape, get stronger, and stay healthy. He has the talent but he needs to put in more work.
Agreed. And it will help reduce some of the minutes the other forwards are having to inhale.
PS: Don’t know why there is a double post, above.
Are you really blaming Halak, Anthony?
Boone. i assume you mean PK subban. the PK has sucked. ha ha
AK should be benched… cant even get the puck deep
Two goals is nothing, LET’S DO THIS!!!!!!!!!!
Hit control function shift a couple of times.
JM. Please pull Halak and give him a rest before the next game. Team is tired, physically and is playing with alot of brain farts. This game is lost. Hopefully Marky will return in this series.
Hey, I cancelled one party and am in no hurry to schedule another!
Abso efin lutely, I miss Rosen and Jaffe, Elliot is a jerk Off. Gushing over the Pens , Habs should not be playing tonight, Just to get the pens on Sunday afternoon, Not Right
Loving the DJ at the game.
Subban, we need you here in Hamilton!
You have to bring us a Calder Cup in Hamilton! Waaaaah!
“We will win the Cup one day only with ? in the nets “
I agree with most of what you say. Halak had to be tired and he deserves a rest. The Penguins are not magical. The Habs can play as a team and they can win this series – even without Markov.
Engblom (I had to look it up) is more fair than most. Jones isn’t too bad – most of the time. The play by play on Versus was heavily tilted toward the Penguins IMO.
The schedule is the schedule – granted. Some of the on-ice bias isn’t so clear cut.
Big differrence between Wsh and Pits is that Pits don’t shoot from everywhere. They wait for good or perfect chances then take the shot. I’m sure all goalies including Jaro hate that, much easier getting in the game when you get many and not all perfect shots.
Look, I think many of us thought this would happen. Everyone on the Habs had an extreme game 7 hangover. If they win Sunday, they are actually in the driver’s seat. The only terrible news is that it looks like Markov is gone for the series. wich is actually catastropic news.
Those sentences are making me dizzy.
Goaltending and PKing cost us this one.
Now not only have the scheduale makers screwed them here but now they don’t even get the usual amount of rest since the next game is early Sunday.
Lapierre really was active tonight, wasn’t he? Not necessarily productive, but he had a good jump to his step.
Heading into tonight’s game I was hoping that AK would deliver his A-game. He made one great play in the first period; backchecking to pick-off a feed from Crosby to an open Pens player in front of the net. I thought, wow, he’s brining it tonight. That was a short-lived sentiment.
Even though I’m not blaming Halak for anything, I’d be totally fine with Price coming in for the third – Habs can still get back in it so it’s not a complete throwaway just yet, and it gives Jaro an incredibly well-deserved rest (if only for 20 minutes).
Maybe some time on the bench will give him a different vantage point of how the Pens offense works (especially on the PP) so he can take notes for Sunday
See you in game 2. Perhaps things won’t be so much in the Pens favor.
Don’t cross your fingers to see Cooke suspended. If that same hit would have been on Crosby though….
damn that game 2 meltdown.
actually if you look at thier record without Gonchar it’s laughable.
last year they wern’t even in teh playoff picture without him
Well,if need be i know a guy who could supply a blender for a live demonstration if needed.
… What brutal coaching, MAB and PK on in the last minute of the period. ………… MAB was also on in the last minute of the 1st period, F**** pathetic.
Hell yes. We just beat the number 1 team. This game was always going to be a throw away. What did you expect? We were going to blow the Pens away after being brutally outshot by the Caps in our last three games and playing a grueling seven game series?
Bet Penguins wouldn’t if they had just finished an epic Seven Game Series and were without Crosby.
(my god, you’re tiresome)
Markov left the building on crutches!:
Well that doesn’t sound good…
Also, a shame our European players don’t actually have mob connections, we could pit a hit on Cooke and Lee.
Didnt you mean to use the word downside than uspide?
Twice it has cost us, once directly and once indirectly. That Game 2 hat trick against the Caps has become a very faint memory.
Goaltending did nothing of the sort.
If I,m JM, AK and Benny switch lines
You’re about as stale as Ali G.
Not enough shots?
Halak is a mere shadow of himself tonight.
Isn’t it strange how every time a star player is injured Cooke is somehow involved?
“The three stars as selected by Red Fisher of the Montreal Star:
1st star: Henri Richard
2nd Star: Doug Harvey
3rd Star: Jacques Plante
Final score Detroit Red Wings 5 Montreal Canadiens 3″
Still more hockey to be played. Halak wasn’t sharp and might need to sit another game. Well rested he can play lights out. Tired he’s average. I am almost tempted to see Price start next game. Win or lose I’d go back to Halak in game 3.
Weird game. Pens strategy to come out hitting worked and we’re off our game. No Markov is a killer. Time to get back to basics. Need more structure in our own end. 4-2 with 3 PP goals for the Pens.
So Halak was great tonight? Ok, next time Price lets in 25% of his shots against and can’t track pucks at all I’ll remember that you thought he was great.
Not implying we’re in this hole because of Halak, but a save would be nice. You can’t say he’s been good tonight. His puck tracking has been atrocious.
No Retro, I didn’t. I think there are positives. Don’t you?
Timo, man, I understand you just had a child. Congratulations. It’s a beautiful thing. But I sincerely hope your child does not get your poor outlook on life.
Come on Timo. After the series against the Caps, I have a hard time you believe your own shit. Come clean, you’re just into twistin’ the ‘tards?
Hey, count me thrilled that Subban is the best defencemen on the ice in the PIT-MTL series so far but he’s this good right now because of a solid year in Hamilton under a fantastic development coach. I always get excited when I see our rookies come up big, but then I think about how long it will last. Pouliot was our 40-goal scorer for next season in January right now? um…
Enjoy it now, but let’s not pretend this isn’t a kind of familiar script for us.
We gave them three pp goals, and AK’s failure to get it deep caused the fourth goal.
Price maybe in the third to give Halak a break??
They Call Me Shane
The schedule does favor the efficient.
This is a throw away game.
There were some positive signs that period.
I totally agree. Both are as soft as Charmin toilet tissue. Witnessed them both turn away from a hit and allowed a Pens player to push them around. Disgusting. We need are BIG players to play BIG.
Does that guy do hotel room seiminars?
Hey Andrei. If you can’t handle it when your little brother acts up and gets punished you don’t deserve to play either. We don’t need any floaters who blow games because they get all pouty and go on strike because they have an attitude. I don’t care how much hidden talent you’re holding back.
I guess were just used to expecting more, This series should have started tomorrow night
Ah well – no biggie. The World Expo just opened here, and it’s a beautiful sunny day in Shanghai! Time to enjoy the day.
It’s Koivu’s eye all over again. So sick of this. Moen, take out Moore. Let’s enjoy PK, and be done with it.
I’m getting tired of this Sid Crosby love affair. Please.
So that’s the scouting report: Try and take Markov out in the first period of game 1 and that should pretty much do it.
It wasn’t funny the other hundred times you posted either. Besides if he was doing that, it would give him energy, not make him lazy. Get your drugs straight genius, coke isn’t weed.
Markov for Staal, and PK Subban emerges as a force on the MTL back end. Anyone else think this might actually work in our favor?
These guys are beatable, we outplayed them 5 on 5. Just wasn’t meant to be tonight.
I think there is going to be more negatives than positives on this team next year.
Anybody still want to sign the invisible man Plekanec to 5M+ next season?
No cheap Russian shit
Not sure what is going on with Andrei but this may he his last hurrah…he has been sleeping since the hat trick…his head is not in the game…gotta be pissing off his teammates…I am sure JM is sick of it…all that talent and no heart on a consistent basis…
“Save us Turtleneck Man…We need you now more than ever!”
well..i must say if the pens want to win the stanley cup.. well they won’t.
the habs were very tired (it was obvious) and they did all they could (they did get 3 past fleury).
and they played without MArkov…
So Markov’s done eh? Gloom, dispair ((((((
Absolutely. Somebody get this guy a massage and a beer. Carey, take us home.
It’s alright guys! We’ll come back with a better effort on sunday.
Subban is one hell of a good player. great vision!! And his defensive abilities don’t actually worry me too much!
IMO he was our best player tonight. Can’t wait to see this guy in a full NHL season!
Not blaming, read my reply to Clay.
My main concern at this point is that, if we attribute todays shortcomings to fatigue, is there any reason to think we’ll be rested for next game? I think we’ll be even more tired, which sucks. Thats why I’m thinking give Jaro his rest and hope Price can steal a game. Worst case, we get a fully rested Jaro back in Montreal down 2 games, a position we’ve been through. Our chances might be slightly better with him sunday, but I don’t think an extra period of rest does anything to help Halak’s fatigue after a long series. So for the best series outcome, I think fully resting Halak might be our best option.
We can definitely play with these guys, we just need a better PK and maybe a couple showstopping saves like against Wsh, if this series had started saturday, I think we really could have one that game.
Unless AK pulls a hatty out of his butt in the 3rd he should be press boxed for the remainder of the series. I’ve heard enough excuses from the HI/O membership for this kid. He may have “potential” but he has no here and now.
Sorry to dump on anyone who supports AK but I’ve been tired of his schtick since the regular season. On again, off again doesn’t cut it in the playoffs.
AK & SK?
Really though – wouldn’t it be smarter to take out Crosby, Malkin, and Gonchar?
And a sunday afternoon game. Not even 48 hours. Brutal.
LOL!!! Timo must stand for Tears In My Oculars.
Again C.B.C. with Jaro Spachek?????????????????????
Ron Maclean saying Congratulations on drafting Mario Lemieux?
They intentionally threw the season to draft him! This wasn’t a Pollock move, it was the original, all-time tank.
If the PK were even 25%, we would be heading to OT. Today’s loss was prolly a awakener. Work on the PK and Fleury looks VERY beatable. Still say Habs in 6.
This is random, but I counted 4 times in this game that a Penguins player grabbed the puck and threw it up the ice. That’s supposed to be against the rules. You can bat it, but they keep on gloving it, changing direction and throwing it.
Andrei is pissing me off, always avoids using his body. Does he not know he is a hockey player? I’ve seen more contact from a soccer player than I have from AK.
I agree. He has played flawlessly since he started.
Pretty much what I’m saying.
5 goals on 20 shots, in what universe is that exceptable goaltending. All 5 goals glove side, 4 of the 5 high glove side. If it were Price would it be exceptable, NO!!!
To be fair, I think the whole team looks like they need a rest.
If JM was wondering if PK is ready for prime time he found out tonight…gonna need him since Markov might be out…
New game Sunday….Not sure it gets any tougher playing Caps then Pens…
AK46 needs to go to Quaker State Lube Restauraunt and get the hottest wings they got and wake his Belarusian @ss up…it’s the playoffs Andrei!!!
any of the pro-CBC posters still happy they have the rights to Habs games for this round?
hey, here is something psitive you can do when your sick of hearing benoit when the habs are winning or losing:
mute the tv and put music. it’s actually pretty funny when your at a dramatic part of the music and then something dramatic happens on the ice. it makes a loss better. yeah.
Tis never a dull game with the habs…
Earlier today I posted CP would be back in net (did not it would be tonight but) and the reasons why. Not to fault Halak and our PK who won the series against the caps (and not to jump on Halak I still believe, to appease the Halak zealots). Halak played unbelievable vs. Caps but he should have been pulled after the 3rd goal or after the 1st. period. Watch the replays if you don’t believe me. 3rd. goal his sholders hunched ,he knew he was done and for one of the few times this year I disagree with JM and Halak should have been gone. If any Halak fans want to call me out feel free but he was done for the night after the 3rd. goal. It was not his night tonight. Plain and simple. He gave his all vs. the Caps and stopped 131 out out of 134 shots (numbers may be a bit off) and the PK allowed 1 goal in 34 chances?
Unfortunately in most sports %’s play a role and both of the above were way out of whack (also I doubt very much the Pens will score on 4of 4 PP’s again in this series again %’s)
Jaro was Mentally and Physically tired and as Brian Engblum (hey i spell bad without spell check) an ex Hab now working for Versus (does any think I would watch CBC to listen to those Toronto clowns bash the Habs when I have an option) The announcers there are way more professional and less bias than those goofs in Toronto. They even went as far BEFORE THE GAME to say what I posted above about Halak playing bad when physically and mentally drained and that CP should have started.. My thoughts went Immediately to HIO website which would have have been down for days with all the CP,JM and BG haters venting their hate to the above mentioned people.
Guy and Gals CP should start next game or JM has a verry verry verry tight line on Halak. This is professional sports. What you did yesterday doesn’t matter what you do today counts. Hey if CP starts and loses (if he wins he keeps playing) and Halak comes back (after a well needed rest) and wins the next 4 games I will be extatic and I still believe in him.
The end result is winning and that is what we want and I don’t give a rat’s ass who plays goal as long as they win. Again “what have you done for me today”. May be crude but it’s the real world and in sports the road is littered with players who had great years or part of good years and are traded or relaesed at the end of that season or the next year. That’s why they earn the big bucks but also why some careers end with a resounding crash.
Also not to defend Bettman unless he has ESP there was no knowing we were going to play today. The schedule was up at the start of the playoffs and winning early and getting a few extra days rest went to the Pens. Same thing would have happened if the Caps had played tonight. There would have been no extra day of rest for them.
In the end GO HABS GO in 6 games whoever plays net. Remember we out scored them in 5on5. They scored 40 more goals then we did but also allowed 20 more. With good goaltending from either or both of our goalies we can win this series.
Do you know how long it took to type this?
On a days rest, physically and emotionally drained after that series this was not a bad outing. The PK was a bust tonight but otherwise we were not dominated and played hard to the end. I feel ok with what I saw. I did not expect a win tonight. The loss of Markov will be devastating if he is indeed gone though.
You seem to be forgetting MAB.
Did Cherry call him Havlak?
ya because Benny is really bringing it tonight *rolls eyes*
And to think I kept the same draws on for 2 days for that. Oh well I know the boys will be there on Sunday, despite Bettman and this assinine series scheduling
P.S. PK (Subban) is gonna be a superstar! He’s a joy to watch. Really feel bad for Markov, the guy has no luck. And if the hit on Markov was clean, Matt Cooke is still a POS.
Pittsburgh Fans are all band wagoners
Quietest playoff atmosphere ever
they dont deserve three straight top 2 draft picks
…NO PROBLEM Guyz !!!
…the Difference were mistakes and brain-farts of a TIRED Team
…I think if I was on the ice, I just was ASSURED Our Team can play with the Waddlers
…THIS was an EXHALE ! after a draining series with da Capz
…this series is Just Warmin’ Up
……but EVERY Hab Fan should visit The Oratory tomorrow …and kneel on EVERY Step and Pray …like No Tomorrow …that Marky will play on Sunday
…Gee, I wish I was in the Hyperbaric Chamber business
…GO HABS !!! …go ! …ehhh ????
Habitant means PASSIONATE HOCKEY
Cammy was just on Versus. He’s a class act.
well… there’s a good chance we lost markov. BUT we have PK at least – although i don’t know how much he’ll help on the PK – at least he’s there on the PP.
4 straight actually.
The team didn’t give up in spite of being outplayed by the Pens PP.
The CBC says if Markov is gone that Montreal doesn’t have the depth to recover. I don’t agree with that view any more. He’s a key element, sure, but we have some pretty good D showing up these days and Spacek should be back soon. They’ll get used to the odd pairings and settle down by Sunday.
They need rest and Halak in particular. No use pointing fingers at anyone.
Price played well against the Pens this year. That might not be a bad idea to give Jaro a rest and see what Carey can do.
The legal steal.
If Martin has his way, the Kostitsyn bros. will not be back next season. If the Habs fans have their way Hamrlik will get a one way ticket out of town as soon as the playoffs are over.
If on again off again doesn’t cut it in the playoffs, why is Bergeron still playing? That last goal was WAY more on him than it was AK as he was completely out of position and got in Subban’s way. -9 now for Bergeron.
They looked burnt out from game 7. But I’m holding out for a good third period… and game 2.
Is Staal gone long term though?
Agreed to the truth of your assertion (last sentence)…but Andrew was implying otherwise, I believe.
Good Luck cowgirl!!!
I like the way you think!
Wow, even Cherry says they’ll be OK with some rest.
He should have his a** literally nailed to the bench for this game.
Lol…change them drawers Chris! I thought I smelled something tonight…
I’ll take McGuire over Glen Healy anyday!!!
When he’s on, like most NHL goaltenders, Price can be outstanding. So who knows maybe Halak used up his horseshoe luck, like Biron 2 years ago.
This coming from the guy who Sh!ts on “his” team every opportunity he gets?
If we can get Spacek back, maybe a series. Otherwise, Halak has to immediately shake this game off and get back to channeling Roy.
To be honest with you I don’t find it horrible. CBC has been much worse than it is tonight.
It is only one game. They could still come home with a split. The sky has not totally fallen yet.
Agree, and I’m holding out for the same!
I am eagerly awaiting Ian Cobb’s report that he knows PK personally and thinks that Young Subban is a fine character.
Habs looked worn out tonight.
The phrarse that I heard over and over tonight on Verses was “Markov injured on a clean hit by Cooke”. I don’t think that Cooke is even capable of a clean hit.
You always get in trouble for suggesting the goaltenders are human. Which they are and they do wear down. NHL scheduling us with 1 day of rest after 3 impossible performances by Halak was ridiculous.
Chesterfield Cherry actually said some great things about PK Subban. I hope he plays 20 years for the Habs. He looks great back there.
Could agree more about your PK comments.
I want to cry! Where is everybody?
But my instinct tells me the Habs will get this one to OT. Too much character to quit.
I totally agree. in fact I would have put Price in earlier tonight, maybe even have started him….flame away but there was no way Montreal was going to win tonights game after playing Wednesday. Quick question can anybody name the last time a team won a 7 games series and then win game 1 of the next round with 1 day off?
Been a Habs fan since I was in 2nd grade and sat behind Patrick Roy at the Aud.
i agree they’ve been worse. I disagree it hasnt’ been horrible. but then that’s just my opinion.
Friedman mentioned a high ankle sprain. If that is true then Markov is gone for the playoffs. Man the dude has the worst luck with injuries.
Does this mean PK is an emergency callup and we can bring up White?
Deep down Sid wants to wear the CH…it will happen…Love to see him wear the bleu, blanc et rouge…When is the question?
I live 5 blocks away from the Oratory. Walk up around there every day. I’ll definitely say a quick one as I pass by tomorrow.
Very true. I can’t remember the second round starting without a single day off before.
Final score 6-3, including 1 empty net goal, so if we kill those powerplays, what’s the score?…hmmm. considering how gassed they seemed, I’d say they did alright. I hate to beat a dead horse but MAB has to go, a peewee player could keep the puck in the offensive zone better than him, I’m at a loss for words at how lousy this guy is. On the other hand, PK is going to SOMETHING ELSE to watch next year, what a talent!!! Pouliot and AK are just passengers right now. I can’t believe you could look your teammates in the eye after efforts like that.
That goal was not the D’s fault, AK whiffed it into perfect break out position for the Pens. If it had gone deep, we could have got the line change together.
Glad you can read my mind, Clay. You’re so full of it.
I would be shocked if Markov plays again this series.
This Markov loss could, needless to say, be crippling for the Habs. That being said, maybe this is the chance that PK Subban needs to step into his own and show the world what he can do.
As for the loss? Entirely predictable, imo. The Habs looked slow and tired all night and the Pens, despite scoring 6 goals, didn’t look THAT impressive.
They are beatable.http://www.habsaddict.com/2010/05/canadiens-penguins-pittsburghs-power.html
Habs Addict.com http://www.HabsAddict.com on Facebook: http://www.facebook.com/pages/Habs-Addict/293450486615 on Twitter: http://twitter.com/HabsAddict on Hockeybuzz.com: http://www.hockeybuzz.com/blogger_archive.php?blogger_id=137
Well we’re running low on D for the moment, but I agree on the sentiment.
I just can’t fathom after all that transpired in the Caps series why anyone would go mental over tonight’s result. I mean I was all geared up for the greatest Bitchfestapalooza since Justin Williams after Game 5 against the Caps and had to throw out all the Genesee Cream Ale and pigs in a blanket I purchased. Freakin’ cost me a shitload of scratch!
…2 goals down is not overwhelming …but I would let Price finish this game and give Jaro a breather
I say we tank right away. 22nd over-all pick is better than 30th.
AK46 is just a horrendous top 6 winger. I hope the K-bros are a distant memory next season. We’ve made this game way to easy for the Pens….they really haven’t had to play very hard.
Don’t forget the Chris Lee factor.
Hey don’t get me wrong, I wish Savard had thought of it for that particular draft year…
Still, you shouldn’t get credit for being a genius on tanking, Chiraelli pantsing Burke over the Kessel deal? Now that was smart.
Twice. It’s gotta be an act.
Habs need to win the third period to give them some momentum for a quick game coming up Sunday afternoon. We all know how brutal their record is for afternoon games and the Pens are used to it because of NBC.
Just finished working, and I missed the game… WTH happened??!!
How did we play??
Matt Cooke? This means WAR!! I’m dead serious.
– YES HABS CAN!! –
CBC tonight is like your local cable station doing high school hockey.
If Staal is hurt, that is a HUGE loss for Pitt. I think he is their 2nd best player. I would love to have that guy on our team.
Still got 3 by Fleury, if this was a 5-0 spanking it would be a different story but we still scored 3 times on them and that’s enough to win games. Players will focus on fixing the problems on their own end, but they also know they can beat the guy at the other end.
“A little less boozing, a little more gym perhaps in the summer? ”
No, that just doesn’t work for me!
BTW…remember when Desharnais, Trotter came up and played amazing against the Pens on February 10? Maybe we should call them up.
good plan. if I had RDS in HD i’d be doing the same. that being said, it’s getting to the point where i might be willing to sacrifice the picture quality in exchange for not having to deal with current level of noise pollution
Is that comment supposed to make you one of those oh-so-cool cutting edge funny guys? Tell me, are you an asshole on purpose or just born that way?
If Bergeron would have been on the right side of the ice Adams wouldn’t have had a one timer.
Is Pouliot any better???
Attn: Matt Cooke – Markov was bracing for the hit, not TRYING to hit you, you ******** moron
Whatever you’re smokin please pass it around!
he went to cover the guy that subban already had and left the other one completly alone…
“I like what I’m seeing right now,” assessed Markov. “We’re not perfect, but we’re trying to be.”
Was thinking the same thing…have to check the rules…we need some more grit and energy…PK was making everyone look like tired old men tonight…a little piss and vinegar is good for a team…
Why don’t you blame Big Tits for that one? He was a big reason why Halak was left high and dry. But of course you like Big Tits. I blame Halak for one goal but even that one he was screened but I guess he could have tracked it better. Our defence could also have done their job better.
I think its more of an emotional let down than physical.
I agree with you on this one. PK played very good 5-5 and on the PP. Hope Space is back next game healthy and not just pressed into action if Marky is out for this series.
Probably sent their “A” crew to Vancouver.
God…I hope so. He’d hurt us more than Malkin.
Agree. Halak looks fatigued.
Yes I agree, My pal Montreal (my DOG) watched from his crate. I was wondering why, now I know
The Pens score another and I think it’s time to use Operation Tenderization. The hell with the puck and the score. Just go out and pound the living piss out of them. Gill, O’Byrne, pick up MAB and launch him at Crosby or Malkin!
Pro-CBC? That’s an oxymoron. But seriously folks, people are pro-CBC?
Well this game was over the minute Halak was pulled, because you know, he’s the guy who always wins games, and Price never does … (sarcasm.)
Seriously though– my main beef with Martin was that he totally mismanaged these 2 developing goalies this year. Halak should have had more games in the first half (if only to see how he’d do against some of the better teams) and Price should have had more practice in the last 20 games of the season. It was utter folly to assume we’d only need the one goalie (or that “riding the hot hand” was a sustainable goalie policy). Seems like Martin caved to fan pressure to anoint Halak the be-all end-all. Bad idea for both goalies. Since few teams have made it to round 2 with goalies who’ve played 60 plus games, the lesson to me is playing a 2 goalie tandem is the way to prepare for the playoffs.
I wonder if Pitts noticed Halak’s glove-side goals with Wash. and focused on that tonight. Either way, like Price last year, obviously Halak needs to work on that glove side, or at least learn to step forward a bit to cut the angles.
That said, I hope we learned about this new opponent tonight. 6-3 is a respectable loss on their turf. Gill and Gorges are the core of our D now (when can Spacek come back? Would prefer him to more Bergie or Hammer minutes and personally I won’t miss Markov as much as most fans…) As with the regular season, if our D isn’t in top form and we don’t pot more than 2 or 3 goals we’re toast. I hope Martin spends a good while with his associates analyzing the tape and plotting some strategy and personnel fine-tuning …
Halak hasn’t been incredible tonight, but playing Price does absolutely nothing for the team. Win or lose, Halak must finish the game and regroup for Sunday.
Why are the Habs playing fri(one day rest from gm 7) and then early on sunday(another 1 day rest) when the van-chi and phil-bos series are both starting on sat, even though they have been done since monday at the latest. Also det-sj play sun after they played on thurs…..what the deal??
Once posted before does not make 100 you genius. Bad coke apparently has made you a bit lazy or is that just you.
CBC interviewing that POS Cooke and asking him about the hit. Man CBC really hates the Habs so much.
Sorry but how many players have we said deep down wanted to wear the CH? Mario Lemieux, Vinny Lecavalier, Marty Brodeur, etc. and none of them ever did. Crosby will do what every franchise player has done which is stick with one organization.
We are still competing, even after the crazy series we just had. This isn’t terrible. But The Pens are a more complete team, and there is more to pay attention to. Starting Price would have been a good idea. Halak DESERVED a break. But obviously wouldnt take one, neither would I. We can score 2 in the 3rd.
Again, Im just happy we are competing. You can tell we just finished a TOUGH Series. They had more time to rest. We will stick it to them next game. Hopefully, we can take it to overtime, or steal it in the 3rd.
There may be other teams, but only ONE Club De Hockey…
Alas, this might have been an interesting series. But if Markov is out for more than a couple games — and the crutches make it sound like an end-of-playoffs type injury — then the Habs are cooked, basically.
so MAB goes to defend the guy that is covered by subban and leave adams all alone.
the guy has zero hockey instinct..
wtf was he thinking.. that is a peewee mistake.
it’s not like it was a fast paly he had time to realise what was going on.
also pouliot is sooooo lazy and soft its unbeliveble..
he better be getting some sort of surgery or reveal an injury in the offseason because this paly is embarassing.
oh brother andrei.. i don’t even know anymore.
is it the epilepsy meds? is it the attitude… what is it?
Roger. I’ll take your word for it. As I said, I was in a “transition phase” i.e. going to the fridge. I thought I saw the puck head to the benches. Guess I was wrong.
Bench AK. Put Benny with Cammi and Plec, Rotate Cammi and Gio on the 4th line
Yes that is what sucks the most. F’n Bettman and NBC having to showcase Pitt on Sunday. How about you aholes focus on good hockey and not about building the game in the States? It’s ridullculus that the Canadiens had t go straight to Pitt after Wednesday’s game and then have to play an afternoon game on Sunday. I would be saying the same thing even if I wasn’t a Habs fan. I say the same thing every year come playoff time. It is an unfair advantage to one team. Pitt will easily have a 2-0 lead because of the schedule. Total Bull!
Free agent in 2013, I say we sign him to a 20-year deal for a very low cap hit
MAB the human battering ram…that could work…
Also, how many goalies names can Cherry butcher? Lolongo, Valamikov, Havlak?
No, and neither is Metropolit, who’s been an absolute joke the whole game. But AK is the easiest guy to bash.
When Halak is tired he’s average or worse. When rested he’s lights out. I’d like to see Price start game 2 and Halak start game 3 even if the Habs win game 2. Price can still steal a game. I know it’s risky but that’s my opinion.
Not really, but he hasn’t really hurt the team either. The overall depth on this team is definately a problem.
Hopefully yes. AK’s game is connected to SK’s hip. Those two need to be separated at one point in their respective careers but gone next year from the Habs if possible.
Elliott, are you intentionally avoiding interviewing a Habs player or were you ordered to not chat them up at all?
Funny you say that… I was just looking at this: http://www.mauvaisoeil.com/will-the-habs-win-tonight
Now if you look the top right corner of the page, it worked tonight!
Seriously though, one could only imagine what the outcome would have been if they worked better on the PK tonight.
The team just lacks poise tonight. The effort is there but the adjustments aren’t. New, different opponent.
Looking at the bright side. We played without Markov for most of the game and Halak and the team probably can’t play any worse, yet we were in it all the way.
Regroup and come out with revenge in mind on Sunday boys.
I honestly think it’s either the epilepsy or the meds, it just doesn’t make sense how he’s playing right now after the hat trick game. Something has to be messing with his head.
Let’s not forget one thing. We’re playing against the defending Stanley Cup champions. And until the last goal, we were right back into the game. Come out strong in the third and it is still within reach.
Isn’t there a goalie in Tampa called Smith? He should be able to handle that, maybe.
That was hilarious!!! Good one Timo.
pretty hard to assess the game tonight when halak was shaky at best. five on five, the pens are no better than we are. they are rested, they are healthy and we played with them at even strength. if halak has even an average game we could have won the game. as good as halak was last game, he was pretty bad tonight.
losing markov is huge, may not be able to overcome that. pk stepped up, and i suspect will be better every game. he is already way ahead of mab.
Halak got chased from the nets. So what?
We wouldn’t have made the playoffs without Halak and we definitely wouldn’t have beaten the Caps without him.
I’m honestly not upset. I’m enjoying every moment. Watching PK Subban is a joy. We took down one Goliath and now we go after the next one. We’ve beaten expectations twice. I wouldn’t bet against us doing it again.
And if not we’ve got nothing to complain about. This team has done us proud. Period.
Mehhhh….whatever. A very tired team (esp Halak). Very understandable. As others have mentioned, the Pens PP killed them. They have a little over a day now to watch the tapes, make some PK adjustments for Pittsburgh’s style on the PP.
Not sure about anyone else, but Halak maybe should have had 2 of those first 3 goals. The guy’s exhausted, so not blaming him at all.
What gives me hope is that they went 5 on 5 VERY solidly against this “elite” team, despite the fact that Pittsburgh hadn’t played since last Saturday. I saw nothing overly special out of the Pens tonight, and a lot of good things from the Habs – forechecking, cycling in the Pens’ end, Subban in general, Hamr seems to have some rhythm back. Nice that they outshot their opponents, too.
It takes four wins. Lots of hockey left.
no probably about it. Hughson is the “A” play by play man, and i’m pretty sure that’s not him who’s calling the game and continuing to destroy his legacy
Last time he interviewed a Hab on HNIC, he asked Brian Gionta what he thought of the Leafs’ top 2 lines…
Realise who you’re arguing with bro, I mean Clay, really, his opinion matters. Since when!! He’s Shiloh’s cousin from China, ohh and Halak’s biggest cheerleader. You’re not going to get a neutral reply out of him, the Carey hate is strong in this one.
Subban was stellar, Pleks invisible, and Gionta uncharacteristically penalized … and Glen Healy? I have to listen to this guy for another three games minimum? Crap. If HNIC is not going to carry the Habs in the first round, they should not be allowed to carry them in the second. Give me Gord Miller any day.
The Habs need a rest and to adjust to a new team. While many people were rather high on Martin’s coaching in the first round, they forget that he did not adjust very quickly in the first few games and may have cost us a game for that reason in the first round.
Most of our forwards were in a fog. Hope they can find their way out of it … and shoot me for saying so, but I am wondering if Price is not the goalie to get this team past Pittsburgh. I am not saying Halak will not be the right man again, say for round three, but both goalies have strengths and weaknesses … and, well … there it is.
Pairing a raw rookie who likes to take chances with our WORST defenseman in the last minute of a period. All those experts calling JM a genius because of three games and which I believe Muller was mainly responsible for making the adjustments need to rethink.
Sorry, double post.
You guys need to get over your ‘CBC sucks’ thing… embrace being the ultimate underdog for a change, that’s how we beat the Caps. So what if CBC doesn’t ‘love’ the Habs, let ‘em not love ‘em hopefully deep into the playoffs
switched to CBC for a moment ,How hard it is to remember Jaro’s last name?? Cherry, It’s HALAK! not HAVLAT, then Mclean interviewed some guy..and calls him Havlat too! Freakin Schmucks!
Easy now, cowboy. I recognize (upon second review) that my comment seems to be a bit of a personal thing. It was, in fact, intended to be a comment about how some commentors tend to associate themselves too much with some players.
Your response is a bit over the top, but I won’t lose any sleep over it.
After the Caps series, how can anyone go mental over tonight’s performance?
MAB is exclusively to blame – with exceptional talent comes exceptional responsibilities. He should be carrying this team on his back.
Habs expended their last call-up with Subban. If Markie is injured I the Habs have only one call-up available to them.
…Good !!! …nothin’ Personal against Jordan Staal (…the type of player We can use) …but Jordan won’t be back in THIS game …someOne on Our Team has done ‘His job’
i second this.
They better not go 4 for 4, we need some PK momentum.
Freidman said high ankle sprain when speaking of Staal.
Tru dat…guess it’s getting bumpy on the bandwagon for some
If its a high ankle sprain he is done for sure. If your lucky its 4 to 5 weeks, but more often then not its about 6 weeks.
This is bad.
You referring to the Blog quotes? If so, I totally agree. I hate Cherry but he had it right there.
Halak is not scaring me. the rest of the team better wake up, aka Andrei K. halak may have let in 4 goals, but there is only so much he can do. lesson so far: DON’T TAKE ANY PENALTIES!!!!!!
It could do a lot for Halak, let him rest and get refocused.
Bettman and NBC need Pittsburgh in the finals blah blah to grow the game in the US. Total BS! I hate Bettman and the American NHL.
If they don’t change that rule in the offseason I’m going to stalk Bettman so I can tell him what an asshole he is.
What a joke. Get him the F#ck out.
That’s what I’d do. Personally I think Jaro will need Saturday off. Price isn’t crap. He’s not Jaro, but he’s got skills, and like you pointed out, he’s played well against the Pens.
buddy – Ak is SK’s bitch.
he can not concentrate on his own game if his brother is miserable and in the dog house.
its the sad, unfortunate truth.
they room together; they sit together on every plane and bus ride
AK is NOTHING without SK.
unfreakin’ waste of great talent.
oh man………. wtf?
You know, I agree, Im enjoying this too, I didnt expect to watching hockey now and this team has given me more than I could have asked for, That being said I still want to win and believe we can
That 5 for 38. Odds evening out.
Only thing I will complain about is the NHL screwing us because they couldn’t come up with an excuse not to get the Penguins back on TV as soon as possible, next year if we play them after a Game 7 it’ll be part of a back-to-back night where we have to fly straight to Pittsburgh and play again.
Ruins and Filth, Hawks and Nucks each had several days to rest and prepare for their series, Detroit and Montreal had to come straight from Game 7 wins to the next series with little rest and no preparation. compressed schedule and no rest in the playoffs makes for bad hockey!
Something tells me Bylsma been studying some video tape. 4-4 on th PP. Brutal.
I’m with you bro. Here’s to a big bounce-back in Game 2!
They have and will always have the Leafs in their ass.
This is ugly. Halak looks tired, the team looks tired. This is 2004 all over again. A 7 game upset after coming back from 3-1 down in round one only to get steamrolled in the second round.
Too funny. Really, they didn’t look bad for a bunch that’s dog-tired. Figure out how to handle the Pens PP and they may make a series out of this. If I was in the Pens room right now I wouldn’t be high fiving and breaking out the brews. And they’d be wise to hold off on the bravado interviews as well. Keep it low key or they’ll rile the Habs and we all know what could happen then.
HUH…..O’Byrne on the Ice for that one too…..Just sayin
JM doing his best Mario Trembley?
What a joke this game is.
Wow, 1st bad goal tonight IMO. Overall though, pretty terrible stuff. Just domination.
4 for 4…. I refuse to beleive Bylsma detroyed our system that much, Halak is off his game, I’d like to see him rest for sunday, but it doesn’t look like thats happening. We really do need super Halak to win games, especially without Markov.
Try to get to know Ian and maybe you’ll understand.
Right, because Bergeron would be a better choice on the PK?
We’re kind of short options here and for the record, P.K. doesn’t get SH time in Hamilton.
They’re tired and Pittsburgh is fresh.
Get this one out of your heads and let’s move on to Sunday.
AK46 needs to get his head out of his ass!!! At least 2 of these shite goals have been directly his fault!! With the exception of the hat trick game, he has been slow, careless and unwilling to play hard!!! Sit em Jack and play someone with some heart like Darche!!!!
Play Specek and sit MAB, Ak bring on Mets and Maxwell they will give us my grit . AK is just floating out there and making bad passes. MAB is a waste on forward and will kill us playing D. I think they need to play Price he bigger and i think he hungry. Halak was right for Washington maybe Price is right for the Pens. Thing is is Halak is tired not much sence playing him sunday give him the rest see how Price plays and if he loses then Halak will be ready in Montreal.
Double-check from Crosby, no call. Of course.
Pitt beating the habs,…. is like taking candy from a baby.
habs beating Wash was our stanley cup.
HABS WON’T WIN ! SINGLE GAME THIS SERIES AND THE PAIN WILL BE OVER ON THURS, SAME AS LAST YEAR WHEN WE PLAYED BOSTON.
HABS-QUITTERS! when Pitt was up by 2 goals, habs stopped playing, as usual. it was men vs boys. habs just can’t compete with Pitt. and BTW, Pitt is light years ahead of Wash.
Habs beat Wash, because everyone beats Wash. Wash is known for loising series when up 3 games to 1. It’s a fact.
tonight was the real habs, you know the mediocre team that always quits when they’re behind.
THURS=PAIN IS OVER!
Finally Martin does the right thing and puts in Price
Retard? Wow, you’re both classless and stupid.
I guess my comment has come to little to late like 60 games to late……Just sayin
A little late for the hook Jacques, but at least he gets a bit of a breather
Good move puttig Pricey in.
idiots like you shouldn’t have access to the internet
i would answer your posts with a well thought out and rational one.. but i doubt you would even realise you were reading something sensical
genious… why not put in price and well rested guys like sk, darche and maxwell from the beginning
let guys rest up.. at least they would be ready for sunday
now they will be tired for sunday as well
For heaven’s sake man it’s not some made for TV conspiracy. Do you really believe that the league has a plan to stop Montreal and Detroit from winning? No you don’t. You’re just upset about the schedule. Luck of the draw and nothing anyone can do about it. Move on to something important now.
I’d be content with a straight-up swap of the Kostitsyn brothers with the way AK is playing right now..
Unbelievable how tired everyone looks, including Halak. No movement at all. Kind of embarrassing.
Bob Cole its time to go home to NFLD how bad was that the play by play , That was a disgrace was he even watching the game. i will watch NBC Sunday.
Thanks for reading our posts, pull after a save is actually a good move, shows that its for rest and not blame. The first 4 goals were damn near unstoppable, the 5th weak, but its clear he and everyone is tired.
That should have happened at the beginning of the third.
Go with Price on Saturday. Rest Halak. Unless Price is crazy good, go back with Halak when the series shifts to Montrael.
Dave …if You are on Queen Mary lookin’ at the Oratory, You would see My ol’ apartment building peering between the trees to the left of the dome on top of the mountain (Ridgewood Avenue) …there was a time in Montreal when as a kid I would watch fireworks displays over the dome celebrating VICTORIA DAY …lol
…My childhood Protestant School Board elementary school was called Cotes des Neiges Elementary again just to the left and at the foot of the Oratory …didn’t pray, but climbed those stairs uncountable times
…if I was still living there ? …would give the prayin’ a priority
…as in Bylsma is not spelled B O U D R E A U ?
I am sure Mr. Cobb is a great guy. Perhaps folks are a tad sensitive, but I am the last person that would ever attack someone in a mean spirited manner. Do I expect you to believe that? Nope. Again, as I mentioned, upon review I understand how it could be interpreted. That’s my fault.
Let’s all get our knickers out of a knot and let it go for crying out loud. Long live the Ian Cobb!
Looks like you’re right
Hey everyone, Jack’s back.
Hey Jack you haven’t been around in a while. Not since the last game the Habs lost I believe. I wonder why that is? Hmmm. Could it be that you’re not a Habs fan? That you’re a fan of another team? Possible.
Not sure why JM did not do it at the beggining of the period and give Price a chance to win it…that way Jaro doesn’t have to leave the ice like he just did…
Its okay, I didnt expect to sweep the Pens.
______________________________________ Gionta for Captain.
Habs looked tired and played a lot of sloppy hockey tonight. They weren’t blocking shots like they had shown in the Caps series either, and they skated like they were in a foot of mud! Halak, while not having much chance on most of the Pens goals, looked like he didn’t have any edge or aggressiveness to his game either.
Pens outskated, outhustled, and outplayed Mtl for most of the night.
It was sad and frustrating to watch, but we all knew Habs would be exhausted in this one. Even their emotional state was deflated compared to the elation they experienced vs. Wash.
Hate to say it, but if they don’t get a second wind, Habs will be done in 5 games… maybe less.
-Crosby is a whiner
-Fleury is vastly overrated
-Cooke is an a**
-AKost needs a kick in the pants (and a ticket out of Mtl soon – he can take along his brother to carry his bags too)
-soooooo sorry to see Markov out
-Subban is a great great young D-man and I hope we see him in the CH for many many years to come!
Lastly… I will never watch another game on CBC again. Painful!!!
where do i get more information on this
Darche is a feel good story and nothing else…sorry to burst your bubble
the whole team is garbage tonight.. not jsut ak46
they are obviosuly exhausted.
look at MAB, Gill, Pleks, Gio, Halak
they are all lead footed and tired
So Mr. Bettman I gues you got your wish playing this on Friday so the Habs would be tired . I hope the 2000 people glued in front of their TVS south of the board are happy . Is that you big TV contract you crook.
This is crazy. I love these guys. What a team. I just love their character. Sucks that we’re losing but I just like this core. I am also getting a big hate on the Penguins.
I can’t blame Halak for any of the goals. Sure, he looked shaky on some of his saves, but the goals were the result of screens and bad defense and bad PK. Jaro was pulled to save him for the rest of the series.
PK and Jaro just didnt have the gas, Lets go boys
It doesn’t make sense for the teams that finished in Game 7 to play ahead of teams that finished in 6 games. Chicago-Vancouver or Boston-Flyers should’ve kicked off and tonight Detroit should’ve played and tommorow Montreal.
Doesn’t make for good hockey, just shows the NHL can’t get it together for scheduling.
But Metro is supposed to be a grinder, not a top-line scorer. And Metro also isn’t getting 1st/2nd line minutes with the team’s top players; AK is. What’s his excuse?
Detroit and Montreal both played a game 7, 48 hours before their 1st game of the next series, both lost. Meanwhile, 4 other teams haven’t played in 5-6 days. Poor planning.
what about the blog quotes? I couldn’t bring myself to watch Cherry post-game after “Havlak”
Glad I’m not the only one who thinks that. NHL won’t call anything on Crosby.
He’s just pissed that his five pounds of salsa and ten pounds of wings went into the crapper after the Game 5 Bitchfestapalooza didn’t pan out. I feel his pain. The dude bringing the smoked meat has yet to post so watch out!
i know he’s definitely a little bitch in real life
Yet you saying Halak is an elite goaltender, because of those 3 games is ok though. Hypocrite!!
Toronto Star saying Markov out with shoulder injury
Just a reminder…Halak is why we are here, after his last three games. IMO he should have been pulled after 4 goals, just to rest him. But after what he did for this team in three elimination games, and after the team hung him out to dry like tonight, they had better give a better TEAM effort Sunday.
For all you pessimists, go drown your sorrows in a beer and then come back after the game or tomorrow and start whining and calling out every player and/or coach you think are to blame for the Habs losing. And don’t forget to insult anyone who writes anything positive.
For all you optimists, your beer glass is half full and the Penguins have the dreaded 3-goal lead. With a dozen minutes left and the never-say-die character of this year’s team, stick around cuz anything can happen.
The change was good, but no way in hell you give Price the start next game. Too much on the line to rest Halak.
Sometime explain this to me – I didn’t quite see what happened.
What happened on Gionta’s “roughing” penalty (that was then changed to delay of game)? Looked like he cleared the puck out of his end, into one of the team benches. Did I not see that correctly? Next thing, he’s in the box for what was initially shown as a roughing penalty, but was then explained away as delay of game.
If that is, in fact, what happened, the rule states as follows (from NHL.com):
“When any player or goalkeeper, while in his defending zone, shoots the puck directly (non-deflected) out of the playing surface, except where there is no glass, a penalty shall be assessed for delaying the game. When the puck is shot into the players’ bench, the penalty will not apply. When the puck is shot over the glass ‘behind’ the players’ bench, the penalty will be assessed.”
Last I checked, there is no glass on the players’ benches. Penalty to Mtl, Pittsburgh goal.
Did I see this right?
IMO Jaro was weak tonight, The scheduling of this series is awful and to me just not fair. Jaro is still our man though
We need to get Boob Cole off the Hab’s broadcast. How does such an anti-Hab get that gig anyway? He’s a stumbling bumbling fool!
Bad news for Markov but this will put a right handed d-man on the PP. Unfortunately MAB probably can’t make that crcoss ice pass for a one timer.
I’m sorry, but the guys doing the game on Versus are just dildonic. And, I’d bet it carries over into their personal lives.
Hey, I know Martin took halak out to give him a break but i’m gonna throuw this out here:
who thinks Price might be better than Halak for this series?
I’m not saying i think that. I’m just curious. and bored.
Lovely. Great area.
I think its the dreaded 2 goal lead your thinking about, 3 goal leads with less then a period are….massive.
I saw, and wondered, the same thing.
It worked against the Caps, so who knows.
But the difference is detroit gets 2 days off in between games and the habs get one day off and play an afternoon game. Brutal scheduling for the habs. This series should have started tomorrow night.
It just wasn’t our night. Microwave some popcorn and watch a classic flick. We’re back on Sunday afternoon so take it easy Saturday night.
How is that embarrassing? The team just won the most impressive come back by any 8th seed over a #1 seed and had one day rest. What did you expect? I’m impressed that we have actually outshot the defending Stanley Cup champs. They will be better in game 2.
i dont think ive seen pleks play this bad in a year
You have to stop focusing on the game and focus on drinking. While you’re up, could you bring back another round?
nice! but the frist time i read this i thought you wrote “Crosby is a winner”.
Before you say stupid things you should do your self a favor and find a tall building and jump. Must be hard living life as a complete idiot. Habs out played the pens 5 on 5 they out scored them 5on5 the difference was their powerplay. Habs are a tired team and this game should have been played on Saturday night. We lost markov but I hope staal is gone for them thats make its even.
…if I was Moen, Moore, Lapierre ? …I would concentrate more on workin’ over Crosby, Malkin or Gonchar …injure ‘em enough to send ‘message’ to Cooke …that hurtin’ IS a 2-way highway
Yer killin’ me man. Hey, don’t forget I was the one with the potato salad. That’s all I’ve eaten for 7 days now.
If they give Crosby any more love they’ll have to get a room.
Yes, they should have just given up from the start…you know…rest your ‘stars’…I mean, they play Sunday afternoon! It’s not like this is the playoffs or anything. Just take a day off. Rest up.
Jack aka Timo
The PK was weak. Not aggressive. Missed oportunities to clear the puck on all three PKs led to goals.
“Kostitsyn fend l’air”
I hate afternoon games as both a watcher and as a player.
Going from memory, I thought he shot it over the glass opposite the players benches.
LOL…funny joke, man!
just out of curiosity.. it’s obvious you are not a habs fan and are just posing.
you are a leafs fan or bruins fan or soemthing like that and just pretend to be a habs fan to post here.
now… is your life that pathetic that you have nothing better to do?
AK is useless
The Habs needed to be brought down a little so their heads don’t get swelled by the Caps upset. Back to Earth, back to their game, Game 2 will be a Hab victory.
What a great shift!
NHL screwed us by giving the Ruins and Filth extra days off by playing them Saturday while we had 1 day of rest against 4-days rest Penguins, our best minute-eating defencemen goes out in the 1st period, possibly for the series after a draining 3-1 comeback. Did we really think we could skate with these guys for 60 without huge goaltending? Halak wasn’t really at fault tonight but three days ago, he would have made some of those game-changing saves, he needs rest.
i hear that so often im beginning to think kostitsyn is his first name, and Fendlair is his last.
Agree with the scheduling crap. What can you expect from an organizatio run by nincompoops.
Lucky number 13 strikes again! Don’t count us out just yet!
Subban has a hand in that one…
I highly doubt it. Halak just needs rest. He’s not yet conditioned to start this many games. A season a full time starter will help to solve that.
Did you at least buy a bottle of Heinz Katchup to provide some variety?
Great play by PK on the point to keep that O pressure alive
Sleepy Bob Cole: Patron saint of the bleeding obvious.
Did you order your blender yet?
Just strap yourselves in for another long series. After the one against the Caps, I rufuse to go mental anymore until we go down by four games.
Agreed, it’s a long series and given the score, it’s time to tenderize the Pens.
Yeah, why’d that weasel Marek have to read that crap on national TV, that’s so petty and juvenile. Here’s hoping CBC cans that Leaf loving moron. Thanks, Don for calling him out.
Not disagreeing, but no matter how you sclice it 5 goals on 20 shots is not good, Jaro can and will be better
fU*K YA AND SUBBAN TOO BOOT !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Agree – he looks great so far. Very poised.
It really depends on how rested Halak is. Price can still steal one. I just hope Spacek is ready. I’d like to see them sit MAB and roll 4 forward lines with 6 D.
My how I love Cammalleri.
(still no chance tonight though…and Spacek HAS to return for Game 2 – if he does? Then it’s not the end of the world. If not…well it means we have two offensive-minded 7th D playing…and that ain’t good bub_
But he follows The System!
There’s not enough beer in my house to make this game fun to watch.
Nah, Timo never, ever posts more than three lines.
Beautiful playoff goal!
Refs giving us PP’s in garbage time. What a joke
No, no. Timo is above board with his criticism. This guys a lurker.
Great pass G-man to Camel-toe, 3-2 bastichys!!!
Max sold that well
Haha, I know what you mean. Seriously the only three things I hear after AK46′s name are “rate la cible”, “fend l’air” and “rate une occasion en or”… He’s so frustrating!!!
Let’s hope that Halak responds the same way as last time.
Habs score and Versus doesn’t even give a replay.
Thats more lines the JM could muster tonight.
Tie it up boys!
Me too. Hockey is a night game. Hell, in the early 80s I coached a pick up team at the Sky Rink in Manhattan and the games started at midnight.
…unfortunately Dave, the last time I checked …My ol’ elementary school was torn-down and replaced by an ol’ folks home
…o’ well …clocks don’t stop tickin’ for ANY of Us …do they ?
Keep it going guys.
I know what happened and understand the effect. I really expected something like this. It’s still embarrassing though. Why, are you proud?
A lurker posting more than three lines? Release the hounds Watson!
Does Staal make that much of a difference to this team? Crosby I understand. Surely they’re more than just those two guys aren’t they?
Take the L and learn from our mistakes.
Goalies in Montreal have two roles, netminder and scapegoat.
Jeff Marek read some emails that just painted Hab fans as spoiled bandwagon jumpers (he’s probably right from reading Habs I/O but I don’t need that dirty shame out there). One email from a Hab fan who was “glad he kept the tags on his new jersey so he could take it back” and another email from some clown calling Halak “Red Light Halak”.
Cherry blew a gasket questioning why Hockey Night In Canada would stoop to that and Maclean agreed.
Heads should roll… but probably not.
Na, my brother nixed the idea. Says since we already have a decent gas generator for power tools we should be able to use a normal blender. I told him that’s the point! but I can’t get him to budge. There’s a whole separate story there and I’ll email it later.
PK is really an excellent hockey player. You can tell already this guy will be a superstar. On another note, will Pouliot ever do anything again?
Tell that to the Ducks that Sunday night about 6 weeks ago.
That’s really bad, ’cause Timo could have mustered five or six!
Another gigantic goal by our tiny giant!
I smell a comeback!
It is not a conspiracy but it is not exactly luck of the draw. NBC wants games on Sunday so someone had to start Friday night. The NHL so badly wants that damn American market and it has cost and will continue to cost teams games. No doubt in my mind.
…I love Sidney Crosby as a Hockey Player …as a Character Player
& Human Being (…at least, as far as I know so far) …IMO, in
‘another life dimension’ …both Mario and Sid were BORN and Designed to
wear the Bleu-Blanc et Rouge …Damn String Theory !!!
The Only Way to respond to THAT Cooke hit on Markov (…technically
clean, or not) …IS to go after Crosby (…or Malkin …or Staal …or
Gonchar) …not waste Your time or energy on Cooke
…With Fire …as that’s The Reality …and Law Of The Jungle !
This Penguins team isn’t as strong as everyone thinks, they’ve gotten really lucky playing against a worn out team tonight.
Actually 5 on 5 we are playing with them. We are getting destroyed on the PK.
Whoa, one does NOT put ketchup on potato salad. Where the hell where you brought up?
A game like this is a perfect opportunity for Laps to nail a Pen with a signature check and change his image forever.
Halack looked tired in the first and I would think a coach with JMs great wisdom would have rested him..
AK 46 is hearing footsteps and throwing the puck away.Sit him.He has just floating for a few games
Malkin? Gonchar? But after that…
Oh yeah… small IQ
I agree,to me the caps were much more dominant against us. We can play with these guys 5 on 5. Tonight we are getting killed on the PK.
Just get the trash-can attachment then! You can pour all the available booze you have into it and presto, bingo, five seconds later you’ll have 40 gallons of BASH!
Cheer for the crest on the front of the jersey, not the name on the back.
Great! Thanks! Maybe Ill check it out tonight as my bf and I and a few others are looking for a place to go and watch the game.
It’s in a plaza on 6th Line, just west of Trafalgar Road and south of Upper Middle Road. Closest major intersection is Trafalgar and Upper Middle Road… easily accessible from the QEW.
OK, I’ve lived here for 13 years and didn’t know this place existed – thanks for the tip, Chuck!
If Marky is really injured can the league really dictate how we fill the roster spot
Laraque is still technically on the roster too.
They still have 6 D in this game, even without Markov. Spacek may be ready soon too. I don’t think they can use an emergency call up yet.
I’m taggin lappierre in. Time for him to be our Matt Cooke.
Thank you Chris F Lee…
This is rigged. Absolutely rigged. You don’t give a team a PP after a hit like that.
Lot of movement on their PP, we’ll adjust.
We just need to regroup in the room.
We’ll be fine.
Pittsburgh should be embarrassed to have a POS like that on their roster.
……….. “Thank you Cammy for making my day even more amazing!” I STILL BELIEVE. I WILL ALWAYS BELIEVE.
Pitt PP looks good, Sh-t
Kay, pitts 2 for 2 on the pp, stay outta the box.
For god sakes, people, get your heads out of your a**es. That was a clean hit. This is hockey, not ballet. Markov just fell awkwardly. Sucks for us.
What is the rule on finishing your check? There’s a limit right?
Fun while it lasted.
in buttman’s new nhl you are no longer allowed to protect your players…
and um.. what exactly happened to markov..didn’t look that serious
He wasn’t near the puck and Cooke went for it anyway. He wouldn’t have bothered with Gorges, but it was Markov so he went for it.
He hit him after he got rid of the puck so he knew exactly what he was doing. Can’t watch CBC and their anti-Hab announcers, my blood pressure goes up too much.
Habs have to stay with what’s worked for them. They can score on Fleury. It’s only the first game.
But it’s a disaster if Markov is out.
Impossible. Chris F Lee invents penalties for us.
I want blood now. Even if it’s Crosby’s. If they ruined our chances we ruin theirs. Time to start hitting boys, clean or not. I don’t Cooke anywhere near the finals now.
Call up Ryan White, he can skate and can do some damage on their bodies.
I would have said sit Hammer for Spaceman. But we may have to play both if Marky is out.
I agree. I still say kill that bastard Cooke or “clean hit” Malkin or Crosby out of the game. Just sayin’!!
Agreed, only 2-1, and MAF is beatable.
Unfortunately, I agree with you
Glenn, for what it’s worth, you don’t have a clue how the Habs were feeling
We’re out of call-ups.
I didn’t see anyone say it was dirty. It was late.
I love your avatar!
You’re saying Habs in 4?
Unless Marky is really injured, I believe
Are you sure? I think they can call someone up no matter what as long as it is a injury replacement.
Pouliot’s got to find some open ice instead of just standing next to the defender.
AK46, Pyatt and Metro. Let the line changing begin.
So which team is AK playing for again?
C’mon Benny fight for that puck
Ever since Lappierre got suspended he never finishes his checks. he has to get over that in a hurry.
We technically still have Bergeron and Spacek who can play D so we have no emergency callups.
They have most definitely folded. The KHL doesn’t take interest in the stability of individual teams. They merged with another team, I think.
The Habs are making me Bi-Polar.
Two things I’d say we need to do
1) keep MAB off the ice unless its a PP. There is absolutly no reason to have him on there unless we want to give the puck to the Penguins
2) Does it make anyone else a little nervours whenever Jaro goes out and plays the puck. Stopping it behind the net is one thing, but when he passes it or fires it around the boards, the hairs on my neck stand up
Penguins aren’t scaring me, they’re a two-trick pony called Malkin and Crosby up front. Yes, those are two incredibly talented players but rarely do I see both Malkin and Crosby simeltaneously playing to their best in the post-season. Staal may be the best 3rd-line centre in the NHL, but he’s also crappy on faceoffs and aside from being a great penalty killer isn’t going to give us much trouble.
Our wingers are much, much better than theirs, our special teams were superior on PP for the entire regular season and our post-season PK, well you know the story and our defence just completed a tour de force on besting the best offensive unit in the NHL. I saw the gaps in the Penguins defensive coverage in Pens-Senators, it’s beatable especially for a stable of fast wingers. Oh and our goalie? Way, way better than Fleury so far. Secret weapons? Subban and Pouliot, I have a feeling if Benny scores a goal he’s just going to start flying around again.
Yes that’s what’s happened so far, but the Penguins are due for some humbling and it falls to Montreal to deliver it. Beating the Senators in post-season isn’t really much of an accomplishment, now they have to face a team that’s pulled off a monumental upset and is looking to do it again.
Cool to see that Dumont is with the Dogs, they could use the offensive assistance, not sure if they can substitute him in now with the playoff eligibility rules somehow but for next year, it’ll be nice to see some new offensive talent on the Bulldogs with Subban certainly moving up the ladder. If Alex Avtsin hops the pond, Dogs will have a whole lot more firepower in their arsenal.
Mike, what’s the story on Pleks? I noticed that he was being used
sparingly by JM in the last 3 games. Maybe I just didn’t notice him and his contribution was subtle. Conscious decision by JM or undisclosed injury?
let’s be fair then.. they are a two trick stalion
Well, we’ve already knocked out one of his darlings. We can’t go ahead and knock out another…
Or can we?
I’ll call them that when Sid can do better than a dirtstache in the post-season.
Nice to hear Dumont signed an entry-level contract with the Habs. Can’t wait to see what he does in Hamilton. If he can continue to improve at the pro level, we might have another late-round gem on our hands.
Also, today is the last day the city of Laval is taking proposals to build an arena in the city. The Bulldogs owner has expressed interest in maybe making a bid. With the Bulldogs posting some pretty dismal attendance figures despite their huge season, there’s a huge incentive financially for the Bulldogs to move to Laval. I’m down.
I’m not in to that, but I’m 20 minutes from Hamilton.
Agree. The Pens are an excellent team, but they’re not the juggernaut they were last year. Fleury has fallen back to earth and they rely on their go to guys too much. That’s OK for the regular season, but doesn’t cut it in the playoffs when the checking is tighter. I really like the Habs chances in this series. The team’s head to head record against the Pens this year was flattering to the Pens. The Habs played them tough with a depleted line-up.
I would love to see AK46 and Pouliot pot a few, but they’re playing well defensively. Maybe that’s the price to pay for playoff success.
just listened to phil bourque, pens radio analyst, on hockeycentral (fan590). slagging gill and the habs D – to paraphrase, “we’re talking hal gill, not ray bourque… big and slow an that’s why shero didn’t re-sign him… guys block shots when they can’t catch up or are out of position – ottawa did it and we got around it consistently”. i was pumped before, but crap like that gets me fired up to see what happens tonight.
I live in Laval and would be a happy season ticket holder for an AHL team here. A city of 400,000 people should have at least a junior hockey team!
In this series, Im hoping for the best, but expecting the worst.
More material for the Habs bulletin board, ****ing on our guys just fires them up boys, keep it coming.
“…but rarely do I see both Malkin and Crosby simultaneously playing to their
best in the post-season.”
Note that if only one of the two plays great, we’re done – last year, it seemed one of them took it to their opponent for each series and that was that. They have lost ONE SERIES IN THE PAST 2 YEARS! Wrap your head around that stat.
Thank God Gill is now on our side…
Dumont played the season as an overage junior. That pretty much explains the offense.
He is undersized (again) and will face a huge uphill battle in the AHL. I dont expect much out of him.
did he watch more than 5 minutes of the Habs Caps series!?
Down with Crosby/Malkin/Gonchar et al.
PK started to look more comfortable on the ice and will continue to get better. I like pairing him with Hamrlik and letting him learn the pro game. Im not sure he will stick around for the full series but he is better than MAB and the experience in going to do wonders for his start next year.
Sharks have often been frustrated by having their stars underperform in the post-season and it costs them every single year. How long can the Penguins rely on only one of their 2 superstars being a top player in a post-season series? It is a weakness, especially considering the weakness of the Pen’s wingers on each side of the two superstars.
That’s not really fair to us Hamilton residents. Some of us have jobs and bills and can’t go to every game. We don’t have an NHL team so the bulldogs are all we have, you already have the habs close enough.
I *just* got into the dogs this season. I’d be very dissapointed if we lost them. I even bought a jersey for game 6.
Yeah, just heard that as well….seems the pens don’t respect what the habs just did to the caps….good.
Gabriel Dumont was 18 at the draft and turned 19 last October, he played another season of junior following his draft call much like everyone from the 2009 draft class not named Duchene, Kane, Tavares, Hedman and Kulikov. That’s not being an over-ager at all, that’s just doing what nearly everyone does.
Dumont being signed – that doesn’t mean he can play yet though does it? Like game 2?
I’d rather see Subban on the 4th/3rd line than MAB if Spacek comes back….
Christopher Lee was a Britsh actor in the 1960″s whose claim to fame was playing Dracula in several movies. Chris Lee, as an NHL referee, continues the tradition, by being a one-man horror show.
Hopefully, the equally inept and incompetent Gary Bettman, will have assigned Lee to do only road hockey games in Poughkeepsie from now until October.
He was also “The Man with the Golden Gun” … but Bond, James Bond took him out.
Wonder if there will be any MI-6 agents at the game tonight?
I don’t think the habs can move him down. They have used all 4 of the callups they are allowed until the bulldogs are eliminated from the AHL playoffs.
It has to mean something though. Plenty of time to sign guys like Dumont in the off-season since we own his pro rights as our draft pick and what good does sending Dumont to play with the Dogs in practice do? Let’s hope it means he can get in the game, Dogs could use some scoring touch around the net.
More recently he was Saruman in the Lord of the Rings trilogy.
I should know
Oh, and Go Habs!
“I respect your opinion, but you’re completely wrong!”
I like Benny with Laps and Moore .. seems like some chemistry there .
Plus, the AHL has a stupid tendency of scheduling ‘Dogs games at the same times as Hab games. So if you’re a Hab fan within driving distance of Copps Coliseum, where are you going to be? Not at Copps, watching the Habs.
I’m thinking game 1 will be seriously tough to win, with game 2 having better odds. Simple reasoning is that they’re more rested and have more importantly had time to prepare to face us, while we’ve had to travel and have less time to prepare, video wise. Still, the Halak factor can never be counted out.
Shutting down Crosby and Malkin won’t be significantly harder then then Ovy and Backstrom, but the problem is if we do shut them down they’ll still do their jobs defensively, something Ovy lacked. Another big difference will be the hitting, Wsh barely threw any, and if I remember correctly they were 3rd last in hits and we were last, while the Penguins were a fair bit higher. If I were a coach thats the first thing I would tell my players to do on the Canadiens, dump and chase and make them pay in the corners. Wsh very seldon did this, they liked to walk the puck in, which was great for us because Gill and Co would hit and sweep check the puck away no problem. The Pens will be more difficult to deal with, and I hope our D don’t shy away from the puck in the corners like we saw alot last year, what I mean is when our D purposely let the opposing team get the dump-ins, then tried to hit them, instead of paying the price and getting the puck out. Plus I don’t expect a 1-33 PP from the Pens, they might have a worse PP, but I think they have a better coach, who’ll probably say something other then “go score” to his PP if they struggle.
In any case, I expect this to be a much harder series, but as we’ve seen from our guys, nothings impossible if you never give up…well…. as long as you have Halak that is.
The Boone reverse jinx! I think you predicted the Caps in five.
If it gets any harder, we’ll be done pretty darn early.
…rationally, there is a lot smaller chance of Us winning the
Pittsburgh-series than the Washington
…prior to meeting the
Capitals, I felt Our only chance was structured play to minimize the
hurt of the Caps’ superior offense, and use of Our fast skilled
counter-speed to target their vulnerable D …which in-the-end Our Guys’
TEAM commitment and another-world performance from Jaro in-the-end did
…yet again, RATIONALLY, I can’t see Our Habs having the
same result over Pittsburgh
…first, Sydney Crosby, who plays
with many more dimensions than an Ovechkin …second, 3 lines having
exceptional talent at centre (Malkin and Staal representing a stronger
and deeper spine down the middle) …Gonchar is a rock on D that the
Caps did not have …and Dan Bylsma, a coach that will at least match JM
in preparation and in-game strategy counters
…any chance for Us
to win this series is Jaro consistently maintaining His exceptional
‘zone’ of goaltending …and Our Team GROWING from Their win over
Washington and out-growing Our regular season inconsistentcy
means We will NEED other players to show-up that still have not
produced to their abilities …Andrei and Sergei come to My mind first
…They finally waking-up, and Subban adding another offensive dynamic
to Our D with the rest of Our very motivated and dynamic Team could very
well do it …again
…GO HABS !!! …go ! …eh ???
People, in the words of Robert Louis Stevenson: “To travel hopefully is better than to arrive.”
…Robert …have You heard if Avtsin’s hand-injury has healed ? …last I heard it was career threatening
and he trapped and burned a man alive in the original Wicker Man… how prophetic…
and he trapped and burned a man alive in the original Wicker Man… how prophetic…
No news on Avtsin of late other than Moscow Dynamo folding likely hastening his joining us on our side of the Atlantic. I think the hand injury being career-threatening was being a bit dramatic by the original reporter, I think he’ll come over and be okay, but we’ll have to wait and see on that I suppose.
you know i don’t feel that bad that washington spent most of the time in our zone. that was our game plan as the underdog. we knew they were going to spend a lot of time in our zone so we had to capitalize on our chances, and then keep their shots on the outside, and block shots. we executed the game plan perfectly.
i don’t think one player on the team felt like they were dominated by the caps and they would say they felt in control of the game despite the time spent in their own zone. the caps made it easy with redundancy so it was never total domination because we chose not to do 3 man or 2 man forecheck, we chose to have a 1 man forecheck and keep 4 back and with that style, it comes with defending and we defended perfectly.
overall, our gameplan was not to take it to the caps and dominate them, but to make sure that we limit their domination to low-percentage areas, keeping us in control
The hate-on for Chris Lee has gotten out of control.
NHL reffing, in general, is piss poor, I’ll give you that much. But here’s a news flash- teams that spend a lot of time chasing the puck, or hemmed into their own end, tend to take penalties. The fatigue puts players out of position, and indiscipline creeps in. Not to mention the fact that many of our guys were still figuring out the system in March, and positioning/zone clearance wasn’t great. So, yes, the reffing is bad- but the Habs have done little to help themselves. Our PK got us out of trouble, notably in the last minute of game 7 (AAAACK, O’Byrne: two steps forward, one back)– but we have to play with more discipline, more control, or we are going to get destroyed… and it won’t be Chris Lee’s fault. It’s convenient and easy to blame to refs, but it won’t be their fault.
Not to mention that the farm teams were located in Sherbrooke, Montreal and Quebec City at various points and couldn’t make a go of it. I say leave them in Hamilton.
Allow me to replay the conversation going on at the NHL Front Office.
Gary Bettman: The Canadiens have cost us dearly, a Capitals-Penguins rematch in the Conference Final would have meant huge TV ratings. I cannot allow them to knock off our other top-market team.
Terry Gregson: Gary, have I got a guy for you. 9 years of NHL officiating, until this year, he’s coached 4 total playoff games because he’s lousy at his job. Not that we admit of course, the NHLOA doesn’t make mistakes. Hates the Canadiens with a passion, called back a clear goal against the Penguins in an earlier game this year to prevent the game from going to overtime.
Bettman: Still, can’t make it too obvious we’re trying to put the Canadiens out, what do we do there?
Gregson: I’ll toss in Bill McCreary, but he might be retiring this year anyway so at this point I doubt he cares about us trying to fix game results anymore.
Bettman: Brilliant! I’m appointing you NHL Director of Officating for life!
Perhaps this has been covered previously, but what is this mystery virus that Spacek has? The Playoff-anxiety flu? I’ve never seen anyone laid up for this long before, barring injury.
Someone in the main section mentionned something about inner ear problems, which can really mess with balance and be a massive pain in general, so that makes sense.
…are you saying Moscow Dynamo in bankruptcy ? …no longer functioning as a team/organization ? …Incredible …this is first I heard
…Dynamo was originally sponsored by Russia’s KGB …it IS The Montreal Canadiens of Russian Hockey
…flabbergasted, as they say
…but, with Vlad Putin’s own-KGB blood still flowin’ through his veins, I can not believe a savior will not be found to keep Moscow Dynamo alive
…I mean, can You imagine Our Montreal Canadiens being allowed to fold …and disappear ??? …Hell would freeze-over first
Caps clean thier lockers and Mike Green doesn’t speak to the media. To quote Boone, Norris trophy, my ***! Seriously, after the horrendous series he had, he should have at least come out and answered questions.
…how can You impugn lightly the character of Jaro Spacek ? …of ALL Players on Our Team
It’s official and Dynamo I believe is merging with another KHL team, but it puts a serious PR problem before the KHL trying to pitch their league when one of the oldest and proudest names in Russian hockey goes bankrupt.
Pouliot is being given a valuable lesson in effort and intensity. Watching Moen fills his spot has got to hurt.
The summer will prove whether Benny wants to be a star or an underachiever. He needs to train like a pro (Cammaleri comes to mind) and watch videos to learn how to become the player the habs want.
I expect he will pick it up for the Pens series.
…I just read MVD is the other team said ‘to be in discussion’ of merging with Dynamo …MVD one of the teams still alive in the KHL playoffs, the writer commenting and qualifying ‘the potential’ of a merger being less likely because of MVD’s own success
…so ‘maybe’ MVD having second-thought of taking on Dynamo debt
…I would wait awhile before assuming the end of Moscow Dynamo …I will be very surprised that Putin and his ex-KGB oligarch-mafia brethern, the KHL and the Russian Government itself will not interceed
…let’s wait awhile longer before completely writing-off Dynamo Robert
wonder if hamrlik is prepped for more ice-time
we can’t afford to go around with 4 d-man for third periods
If Bettman is also dry-washing his hands and cackling evilly, then yes, I can fully believe that conversation taking place.
I was thinking more of him in a swivel chair with a white cat.
I think that this was their mistake. These guys have fairly little experience when it comes to the playoffs. I believe it was the loss of their Captain that was the error. It left Ovechkin to lead this team, AND bail them out with his play. I think it was too much for him. Why would they want to put this pressure on his to save 600k in salary??? These guys are led by a selfish Ovie and haven’t really had their character tested this season by one team consistently. Tonight will feel GREAT.
Same old, same old from the conspiracy theorists man. Two questions back at them:
1) If the fix was in for the Caps series why did we win?
2) Did the accusers actually watch any other series or even regular season games of other teams?
The quality of officiating sucks all across the league. Not all oficials are bad but many are just plain poor performers.
I don’t think he’s scored in awhile
…I thought Game 7 was the best officiated game I have seen for awhile
Chris Clark had barely played with the Capitals in the last two seasons beforehand, I think in that time Ovechkin just tended to take over the room with his personality and dominated the game that Boudreau considered Ovechkin to be the emotional leader of the Capitals and it was best to make him that in name as well. Not sure if it was the right move, but Clark had not really been around in the last two years to lead the team anyway.
I suspect Mcphee will start looking for some playoff veterans in FA this offseason and possibly target Anton Volchenkov to steady the Capitals D.
Good post. There is, however, fault to be assigned for a referee of the “quality” of Chris Lee: the NHL itself and his officiating colleagues. This man is not a competent NHL official, and yet nothing evidently is being done to deal with Lee and other officials who clearly cannot perform their tasks at the professional level. You are quite right that the Habs were largely responsible for the penalties they took during the regular season. Too many times our defence was worn out from skating around their end and subsequently pressured to make bad decisions (e.g., the “Hamrlik Special” of tossing the puck over the glass) or because forwards were not where they were supposed to be (e.g., hello Andrie Kostitsyn) or were unwilling to go to the boards to chip out the puck (e.g., hello once again Andrie). Blaming the officiating as frequently as some posters did here always struck me as wrong.
“There is nothing in the world more helpless and irresponsible and depraved than a man in the depths of an ether binge….”
–Hunter S. Thompson
I’ve had inner ear problems my entire life. Believe me, when you get a bad inner ear infection [an infection that is behind as opposed to in front of the eardrum] you can’t even stand up. It feels like there’s a lit match inside your ear.
I suppose. At least the calls were relatively balanced. Again, not all officials are poor but general quality is bad.
Chris Lee has become the Carey Price and Patrice Brisebois of officials. The target of a lot of irrational, undeserved bile.
That said, a pox on his soul.
…’consistency’ is Key …it’s the ‘inconstency’ that rattles EVERYONE’s cages
…I guess many of the experienced ol’ pros (refs) have been retiring …I may not have a proper insight on the NHL’s training standards or refereeing-schools they have goin’ …but it seems today’s younger refs are not being kept to an ‘expected standard’ by the NHL itself
Not sure how Ovechkin is in the room, but pretty much everytime they show him there on TV he is in his own world with his headphones on listening to music. While he may be the best player on the ice, he does not strike me as a leader type. He just seems too much of an individual rather than a team first guy.
Does Washington have enough cap room to sign Volchenkov? Backstrom has earned a big raise from his entry level deal that has just run out. Volchenkov is looking for a long term deal at around $5M per. He turned down a 5 year $20M deal from Ottawa. I guess after exploding for a career high 4 goals he figures he is due top $s now.
Like I said, I don’t know if it was the right move but I don’t get this thing of how Chris Clark was a big deal for the Capitals as he was basically MIA for two straight seasons and wasn’t exactly a huge guy on the ice before he was traded this season. I honestly thought Backstrom was going to start wearing the C next year when I heard the news, he seemed to be setting up in that role.
If they dump Semin (a possibility, two bad playoff years in a row) they’d open up the room since they still have a pretty good stable of scoring wingers even if Semin goes. Volchenkov just might be interested in playing for a different team, who knows.
it’s a virus that is giving him breathing problems and chest conditions
Yup. For instance, I would be willing to make a gentleman’s wager that the Habs led the league in delay of game and too many men calls- the kind of no-brainer calls that are independent of referee quality. I would put that kind of sloppiness near the top of the agenda for next year in terms of team improvement.
It’s easy to blame the refs. But as a friend of mine always says, when you point your finger at someone else, there are three fingers pointing back at yourself. Or something.
I think the Caps could make a MUCH better case about biased reffing- I thought Green’s “crosscheck” was a lame call, and I definitely don’t think their goal should have been called back. Really? Interference? On that play? I don’t think so.
But I’ll take it.
It could just as easily indicate that when Montreal beats Boston in the 1st round, they’re unlikely to make it any further.
Didn’t Green defer all media requests to that Caveman guy in the TV commercial?
Semin was snake bit this season in the playoffs, but last season he was a point per game guy through 14 games which does not sound “bad” to me. He does seem a bit flaky and high maintenance though. It will be interesting to see how he does next year at $6M and a pending UFA.
Judging by this Jiri Hudler article, it appears that Moscow Dynamo of the KHL might be folding:
Why is this relevant to Canadiens fans? Because Montreal draft pick Alexander Avtsin is on their roster, and one could only hope that this would increase his odds in making his way to North America sooner rather than never…
Well, I was quite surprised we knocked out Washington in Game 7 on home ice where I predicted Habs in 6, let’s applaud Halak for his outstanding play who got us there.
This series is strictly not the Crosby show but the Halak and Fleury show.
Any goalie that breaks will determine the series.
Don’t know if we really have the energy to pull off another upset this second round.
My prediction……..Penguins in 6. They really will not stop at nothing to repeat as Stanley Cup Champions.
Good luck to our boys and hope they play as a unit and not count on Halak again.
Prove me wrong boys, prove me wrong.
you can’t be serious about Chris Lee…
man Bettman is throwing everything he got at us
Than what, wait 30 years and rename it the Sidney Crosby Trophy because no one remembers who Patrick Roy was anymore besides older sportswriters, Avs and Canadiens fans? Once you start going with the renaming thing to ‘update’ the trophies than it’ll just be a liscence to rename them every 20-30 years to make them more relevant. Conn Smythe was a total ***, but Ted Lindsay was a guy responsible for bringing in penalties against kneeing and elbowing for crying out loud. Doug Harvey was simply the best defencemen to ever live not named Bobby Orr and got the same treatment for trying to organize a player’s union as Lindsay, but without being a *** on the ice.
Just reads as amateurish to me. Strong, rich history with players lifting the Hart, Norris, Conn Smythe, Stanley Cup and such for achievement. I don’t see how renaming the trophies does anything but just start the bandwagon for changing everything whenever it’s convenient for the NHL to dumb things down more for the casual fans who jump on the bandwagon teams. They renamed the Divisions and Conferences to geographical locations for that reason.
Reminds me of ’86. Is it safe to say that they’ve gelled?
Does anyone know the story on Pleks? I noticed that he was being used
sparingly by JM in the last 3 games of the Caps series. Maybe I just didn’t notice him and
his contribution was subtle. Conscious decision by JM or undisclosed
John Buccigross of ESPN is conflicted…he generally would bet against the Habs but is not sure anymore about this series…he says Pens in 6 (like many) but if it goes 7, then Montreal…I tend to agree, given the quality of the Pens, Montreal in 7, anything else is a complete and utter upset.
I am also one of the many who have been crediting Gainey for building this team…yes, it has more heart and grit than his previous team…but this team should not be considered better than prior Gainey teams until it gets past the 2nd round.
The immortal Jean Beliveau has kind words for the Habs and especially for Halak. Comments by other former greats as well.
… the refs for tonite’s tilt are Bill McCreary and the Famous Chris Lee.
And it only took 86 games to gel, good Karma!
Sparingly? Plekanec played over 20 minutes last game and 23:33 the game before that. I can see that his line might not get the call very late in a game when they are trying to hold on to a one goal lead (since his wingers Cammalleri and A.Kostitsyn are not as strong defensively as others), but Plekanec has been averaging slightly more TOI per game now than in the regular season.
A split would be great, hopefully they can ensure at least that tonight. I can’t wait for it to start!
Wow, the Penguins have better centres than we do? Thank you for stating the blatantly obvious Mcguire, even though as you said a few weeks ago, you’re not a math scientist you were able to come up with that.
I like to think of it as this, Mike Cammalleri, Brian Gionta easily > anyone on Crosby or Malkin’s wing. I think AK will do something big this series (He got a hat trick against Fleury last year) and I think Pouliot is due.
See? Now THAT is funny.
There’s something about Têtes à Claques that just kills me. I could watch it without the sound on and I would still gas myself.
Hope you’re well, Showey. Jessica is gettin’ HUGE. We’re gearing up to bring our new Habs Fan into the world, on or around July 22nd.
Pouliot is kinda OVERdue. I hope you’re right.
I’m not altogether confident.
that was pretty funny. showey, are you playing ball at all this summer?
I wasn’t confident Halak could beat the Capitals out of the playoffs to start the series, but he did and I gladly ate my words on his big-game ability. Now it’s time for the other guys who I have felt dubious about lately to come up big.
Why would the NHL assign Chris Lee of all refs for this game? It’s no secret Lee is responsible for making bad calls against Montreal and that it appears…
Barbeque – Check
Beer – Check
Habs Jersey – Check
Plasma working – Check
McGuire the Master of the Obvious – Check
The “System” in the Igloo – Check
Let’s get this party started!
Go Habs Go!
My answer is E…all of the above
Congratulations, you two – and that was very considerate of Jessica to plan the delivery AFTER the July 1 deadline; she’s a keeper!
D – Who would the Habs have played in the 1st round if Chris Lee hadn’t called that goal back this year ???
s47 – Your best post ever,lol.
Any rational, objective thinking person will pick the Penguins to win this series. Which is why I’m picking the Habs in 6.
Agreed Boone, Pens in 6, and there’s no shame in that. They weren’t supposed to be here, so any success they have against the Pens is gravy. I hope I’m wrong, but it will probably be like last nights game in the west; a well rested Shark team pounced on a tired Wings team, and the Wings came back a liitle too late. Game 2 is the one I think we really need to win.
At any rate…GO HABS GO!!!!!!!!!
Habs are the giant killers. Bring them on!
Gravy is good, but I want the potatoes, the peas, the meat, the plate… But most of all I want the Cup!
Didn’t McGuire say a while back (before he stoned the Caps) that the book was out on Halak? I hope Halak still has his mojo working tonight!
I went through the same routine as Wednesday afternoon; a long relaxing walk, a bit of grocery shopping, chopping veggies and preparing dinner, now sipping a cold Boreale Rousse. Hope this routine works.
I’m hoping for a split on the road just to give the boys some confidence. I didn’t predict the Caps series and won’t predict this one only to say I’m sure the Habs will make us proud. No matter what the outcome this team has a bright future. Go Habs!
Jaro forgot a chapter
The ‘book’ was a cleverly prepared piece of disinformation by Jaro it seems. Besides ‘shoot high’ on a goalie? That’s the strategy to beat just about every goalie in the NHL.
Thanks chris, everything is well here. Our baby is now 3 months old and is growing like crazy. She is already into her 6 month clothing. Looks like she is going to be cursed with my looks and size,i only hope she has mommy’s brain, lol. Congrats on your soon to be little habs fan. Already looking forward to next years summit.
The checklist is the only thing that keeps me from going crazy these nights. Routine calms the inner soul. Well, so does beer.
Sorry Robert, but your argument is a logical fallacy. There’s no slippery slope of renaming the trophies, they’re taking memorial trophies and changing them to represent people who played the game in an exemplary manner. No one in hockey is going to forget who Patrick Roy was, there’s video at the very least, and no one has forgotten who Howie Morenz is, despite that being 70 years ago.
Saying we need to respect tradition because tradition is worth respecting does nothing for your argument. It’s completely circular.
Taking the summer off this year tony. No ball,no hockey,no ball hockey, lol. Going to spend the summer with my daughter and hopefully get the long list of projects done that i’ve been putting off.
As I age I find I need these more and more for some reason : )
lmao,sad but true.
What about the outer soul?
A book is what they have. An encyclopaedia is what they need…
Agreed! Book it Danno!
Habs in 6!!!! GO HABS GO!!!!!
Well. I missed the 1st two goals of games 5 and 6 against te Caps, so I asked myself, “do I sit out the 1st 10 minutes of game 7?” Then I remembered that I am not superstitious. SHUTOUT!!!!
For that we need Tower of Power and a Soul Vaccination:
Pierre McGuire says the story is down the middle, I’ll say the story is on the wings. Ours are way better than theirs.
No prisoners! No prisoners!!!
In the words of Peter O’Toole (as T.E. Lawrence):
No prisoners. NO PRISONERS!
I just don’t see how “Terrible Ted” gets his name on the trophy without any respect to Harvey considering both got railroaded for doing the exact same thing and Harvey wasn’t a 50s equivalent of Chris Pronger, PA could do better to at least recognize the classier of the two players.
I’m tired of the NHL bending over backwards for the bandwagon fans who bought their Crosby or Ovechkin jerseys two years ago, changing their schedules to accomodate NBC which cares more about the Kentucky Derby than an NHL game when they don’t even pay the NHL to broadcast the games. Tired of the NHLPA not having their crap together so it’s easier for a dwarf in the front office to screw up the league while he pursues an insane southern market and expansion that has done nothing diluted the talent and quality of the NHL. Tired of officiating that’s bush league in the playoffs and ignores basic incompetence in the regular season. Why can’t we just leave the trophies alone and rename the Divisions and Conferences after the Greats like some have suggested? Lemieux and Gretzky Conferences, Beliveau, Orr, Howe, Roy, Harvey and Hull Divisions?
And I don’t think you can rightly name any particular trophy after just a single player either. Should Doug Harvey be the guy who won 7 Orr (Norris) Trophies? Should Howe and Lemieux be guys who won six Gretzky (Art Ross) trophies? Not that I’d mind seeing the Selke get renamed the Gainey though but is it fair to have Carbo and Lehtinen as two guys with three Gainey trophies? Start defining that player as the all-time best player in that category, it does a bit of disservice to guys who were just as big in their own times or didn’t get the same opportunity to do what that guy did because of where they played or injury.
Renaming the trophies after a particular player is too subjective for me.
the word is infamous
aright lets see a good competitive game…
i really hope i don’t see the boys flat footed and tired
Sorry, but I have to agree with Pierre. Strength down the middle is always key to building a winner from the goalie on out. No team has three better players down the middle than the Pens. It is ridiculous how much talent they have in that position and then they have Fluery in net. WOW!
Can we all agree that AK46 doesn’t belong on the first two lines. He plays like he doesn’t care and I don’t think he is much of a team player. But that is just my opinion. I actually think that we are one top six forward away from a stanley cup. Doesn’t mean we won’t or can’t this year but it would suck if we went all the ways to the finals only to come up short because management didn’t address an important issue.
We have a giant spy on our team who knows all of the Penguins’ secrets…
Chris, you just keep up your hum drum attitude, seemed to work last series!
nope. can’t say i agree with you. understand your point of view, but i don’t agree with it. I think Kostitsyn belongs on the top 2 lines or not there at all. There’s no question he’s inconsistent though i feel he has played generally well in the last several games. now if your point was that in the OFFSEASON we shoudl be looking to upgrade over A.Kost?….wll then i woudl agree. But in terms of the Habs current personnel….Kosti Sr. is definitely first two line material…IMO
Just imagine what Mike Richards, Jeff Carter, Zach Parise, or Ryan Getzlaf would bring in his stead.
AK46! It’s time to live up to your #10 pick and stop sulking because your bro is benched.
I also agree that AK should be benched. Unfortunatley the Dogs are still in it and the Habs have exhausted their call-ups until they’re out.
Apparently the Vandoos never took any. Why then should Les Canadiens?
If we make it past this round I might just use this as my avatar.
Carter: 15 points in 33 playoff games
kostitsyn: 15 points in 23 playoff games
Fleury and his .890 save % against Ottawa missing two of their top 6 skaters? Hardly terrifying. He isn’t Roy 2.0, He isn’t even Roy .5 right now. Halak’s much better than he is at the moment. Strength down the middle is great, but the number of times I’ve seen the wingers of Crosby and Malkin throw away a good scoring opportunity they were set up for is pitiful. Staal is the best 3rd-line centre in the NHL perhaps, but he wouldn’t be a 2nd-liner for a Contender squad either, doesn’t have the vision nor decent finish.
Have you seen Fleury play since January? Fleury is one of the worst starters in the NHL right now. He has a career ~3.5 GAA against the Canadiens. We have a better shot in this series than we did against the Capitals.
We definitely can not agree. Kostitsyn has produced more than any forward not named Cammalleri and Plekanec in these playoffs, so who’s going to replace him in the top 6?
Richards 28 points in 37 playoff games
Getzlaf 47 points in 56 playoff games
Parise 28 points in 37 playoff games
However, now the intagible. All those players bring it every game, better, every shift. If AK did, he’d be far and away better than all the aforementioned, but he rarely brings it. He needs to step it up. He had a hattie in a loss last series. Not the stuff of legends.
Andrew I do respect your opinion but what games have you been watching? He has one good game. Hold me back. He is useless. If you really like that type of player then I would love to coach against you. Peace.
He just had a great shift.
Not bad, your right but I like consistency. We already had one type like Kovalev. No more please.
Still no one in the greater media giving our Habs any respect all saying that WAS played into their hands and made it easy for MTL. BAH! Habs played the game plan they needed to to win games 6 and 7 (with a little help from Sir Halak) but I’m confident the team can execute a different plan as this series progresses. Everyone talking about Halak and our D but our O may surprise many. Habs may not win the series but hopefully the critics will once again witness how resilient our team can be and at the very least make PIT earn the series unlike an injury riddled OTT team in round 1.
Never underestimate the heart of an underdog or the experience of the veterans BG added to the team. I would love nothing better than our Boys to knock off PIT from their smug podium and shut-up all the “star” loving media.
GO HABS GO!!!
…off-subject to tonight’s exciting ‘happening’ tonight
…but, it seems the re-naming of the Lester B. Pearson Trophy by the NHLPA is fait-accompli …Is anyOne besides Me still pissed for re-naming a trophy that has an almost 40-year history ?
…was it a Total NHLPA Membership initiative …or a Chelios/Fehr (American) iniative ?
…is a (Terrible) Ted Lindsay qualitatively-representative of the player of the year award (chosen by their peers) ? …WHEN was ‘Terrible’ Ted Lindsay EVER the BEST player during his NHL career ? …or close (…the Wings most often losin’ to Our Habs during his days in the NHL)
…IF it was to be re-named ? …WHY was it not named the Lindsay-Harvey Memorial Award to recognize the first 2 EQUALLY most important initiators of organizing NHL players as a precursor to today’s NHLPA
…I believe the ‘re-naming’ was a Chelios/Fehr ‘thang’ …and the typical NHL player are but ‘sheep’ letting these Americans f&5k-around with Our (the NHL’s) History
I find this move highly questionable and I find myself vindicated on that when Healy wrote a CBC article saying he approved it, since only a fool like Healy could agree with it. If it is recognition for someone who tried to organize the NHL players like they say, I agree it should equally recognize Harvey as well, who got railroaded for trying to get it organized with Lindsay and barring Orr, is the finest defencemen in NHL history.
Sets a bad precedent for giving the NHL a reason to rename the other trophies down the line.
Cinderella? Pffffft. If we win the Cup then yes. Until then the Habs are UNDERDOG!!
…let’s post the NHLPA’s e-mail and address to bomb Our objections
…even IF they don’t turn-around, they WILL receive a clear MESSAGE there are many pissed by Chelios & Fehr trying to get-away with it
http://www.nhlpa.com/About-Us/Contact-Us/ …this is link to NHLPA contact page
National Hockey League Players’
20 Bay Street Suite 1700
…let Those Of Us whom believe Doug Harvey should be EQUALLY represented on the-former LBPearson Trophy send THAT MESSAGE to the current-American Czars of the NHLPA
…as well remind the NHLPA Membership not be so easily led down the garden path by Fehr & Chelios, unless they think for themselves first
Ted Lindsay was chosen because the award is an NHLPA award and he was the most instrumental player in creating the NHLPA. It’s just an award, who cares what the name is? Why on earth would a Canadian politician’s name be on a hockey trophy anyway? There’s no real reason to object to renaming this trophy.
Before hand we should change the goal score song at the bell center..Petition to change the song when the habs score a goal. The current song is U2′s vertigo, which has no relevance whatsoever!!! Either Bring back an old one i.e:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gfTpGKJqROY, or give us something that makes us cheer!! suggestion accepted! Join the group for your vote…
Reports were before the playoffs started Plekanec was battling a hip injury in the last 10 or so games of the season. Which I believe, he seemed to have trouble making some of the more fluid movements we saw from him earlier this season. It’s made it harder to contribute offensively down the stretch and while he’s taken rest days, the 7-game series I think grinded on him further. He was still there on the PK and game 1 was won off of his stick, still has 4G, 3A in 7 games which is only 2 points short of his all-time best from 9P in 12 games in 07-08 playoffs.
Too bad the NHLPA wasn’t too concerned about the old timers back in the day when Carl Brewer and company had to sue the NHL to get their due.
This smacks of convenience. Why doesn’t the NHLPA and today’s players fight the league to give the oldtimers a bigger piece of the pie?
Or would that cut into too much of their own self-interests?
Just seems rather amateurish to rename a trophy that was donated by Pearson while the NHLPA can’t get organized enough to order lunch on most days. He donated the trophy, they decided to call it the Pearson in honour of the person who donated it and maintained that for decades.
NHL was already sniffing around renaming the other trophies earlier this year, I really don’t like that the NHLPA is seemingly giving them an excuse by examining how closely connected the trophy’s name is with hockey. The Hart and others could be threatened if they’re going to scrutinize the value in calling certain trophies by their current names.
I will be looking for a split in Pittsburgh. Just have to play smart and disciplined. Keep the score close going into the 3rd and anything is possible.
No pressure on us tonight, so playing loose will be an advantage. The boys are playing for each other now, this group has now become a team. And they are a lot of fun to watch.
I don’t believe Pearson himself donated the trophy. It was named in his honour (which was certainly deserved). Let’s all be grateful the trophy wasn’t re-named the “Gary Bettman Trophy” or perhaps even worse the “William Wadsworth ‘Dollar Bill’ Wirtz Trophy.”
He donated the trophy, so out of respect the name should be untouchable. Watch out, or soon teams will be challenging for the Crosby Cup.
I could care less who donated a trophy. Some of the trophies immortalize some of the biggest scum bags to ever be involved in hockey, Conn Smythe for example. I see no problem whatsoever in renaming all the trophies aside from those named after players like the Rocket Richard trophy or the Vezina. The awards after all, are for players and coaches, not prime ministers and former owners. I can think of no reason why the Conn Smythe for example, wouldn’t be better served if it were called the Patrick Roy trophy.
IT’S BACK BOYS!!!
THE 25 FEELS LIKE 93 VIDEO (REMIXED FOR 2010!)
Dangerous territory indeed. All I wish is a Habs win out of two games from the Igloo. Therefore they can come home with a win advantage.
Somebody should watch Matt Cooke out, ’cause if he injure one of the major Habs players (and could be important in the playoffs), it definitely damage their chances to succeed.
I called it: 3-2 Habs, regulation.
He’s done that his whole career.
Entirely under the radar, too.
Imagine with the exposure he got and everyone aware and wanting a piece of him like they did this year?
Stop argueing with me on this one.
Dude, Cooke is a known cheap-shot artist across the league. He’s been so good at it he made 20 something extremely rich men get together in mid-season solely due to him and modify a rule because of his ability to get away with things that come close to ending other player’s careers.
And laying extremely dirty hits post-lockout.
The Subban Spinerama”
I wanna a call it the “Subbanorama” :D
Tis never a dull game with the habs…
The Subban Spinerama”
I wanna a call it the “Subbanorama” :D
That’s pretty solid. Hope it sticks.
You promised you wouldn’t post this anymore. FAIL.
I think you post this ever time someone says Chris Lee.
It’s even less funny now than the first seven hundred times you posted it.
PK Subban a bright spot tonight…he is awesome…he plays with pizazz…
Not sure how we will work under JM though…pizazz is not exactly JM’s game
Why are they calling both? HE DOVE, Gill was going for the damn puck!
That’s actually pretty awesome that it works
I can’t wait for game 3. If we win one in Pittburgh the Bell Center is going to set records. Note to all the parents out there, don’t bring your babies to games 3/4 if you value their hearing, it’s gonna be ridonculous. Sing loud, sing proud, let’s take another high octane team and show them what blood and glory really means.
I think the bandwagon has a flat…maybe Brooks Laich will drive by and change it for some of you guys
Lol! Never mind that. A win on Sunday will reinflate the spirits.
Gotta love Gio’s moxy!
I smell OT
This is the 2nd time in 13 months that Markov has been targeted to be taken out on a quasi-legal play, remember the little **** Grabs last year in our final Toronto game?
Imagine if Crosby had been targeted twice in that amount of time to put him out of the game on such hits.
The player would be made an example of and suspending the rest of the year.
I’d hear about it for the next 6 months.
I’d go out for drinks and offer freebies.
Put Subban’s heart in Pouliot’s body and we might have a superstar.
There were two teams I thought the Canadiens matched up well against going into the playoffs, teams I was hoping we would play in the first round: The Buffalo Sabres and the Washington Capitals.
There were two teams I really would have rathered the Habs didn’t play – The Devils and the Penguins.
But if you want to be the best, you have to beat the best. Despite what the pundits (AGAIN) say, this Canadiens team can beat the Penguins in a seven game series. If you don’t believe that, don’t watch the games.
Sidney Crosby has been unworldly in the first round, but so has Jaroslav Halak and the Canadiens’ effort, spirit, committment, team defense, etc. etc.
I think they can do this. I really do. Not easy, but do-able.
/\\ikeGO HABS GO!
Subban’s talent obvious, his development over last training camp? Unbeliveable.
Now imagine Boucher coaching the best out of all of the young guys.
we need the reincarnation of John Ferguson.
Team playing hard thats all I ask..
Is that an official Reverse Boone Jinx?
Not yet. Have to save it for elimination games.
I agree that they were scum. But at least they could face the music afterwards. I still didn’t like them, but they knew they would have to fess up.
Cooke is a pretender and a complete and utter coward on top of being a dirtbag.
Yeah but they were tough.
Cooke is a little baby that gets killed by 18 year olds.
Dirtbag who fights is still a dirtbag. That’s how they get away with it, they get “Tough guy” label so it excuses when they try and kill people.
Man, after watching James Duthie and company on TSN, this is AMATEUR HOUR!
so what is up with Markov.. honestly from what I saw it didn’t look that serious.. maybe a muscle spasm or something.
and who the hell is Havlak?
They may be down by one goal and they were playing well untill Markov got run. It shook up the team and will take the intermission to get it back together. AK is lazy out there and lets hope he at least hits a bit and I say abit because he is laying back. Darche may not fill the net but he is not a pussie like AK. Put someone in there that wants to win at no cost. Move AK to the fourth line for the second period and see if the tide changes. GO HABS GO
I also called the Caps in five and also think the Pens will win in 6. That being said, if Jaro is Jaro, then anything can happen.
Either way, I can see this series going long and IF the Habs win, it might go to seven again.
I’d sneer at a Lieberal politician too Mr. Boone. They are ALL scumbags imo!
Yeah….Unlike those class acts like Harper and Mulroney…
Doesn’t surprise me – you can’t even spell “liberal” correctly.
Well the Pens came out and did exactly what I expected, play playoff hockey. Not that we didn’t, but Wsh didn’t, and that worked well for us. The Pens hit, they hit hard, they hit often, and they hit legally, just ask Markov. That was the main thing I was worried about, how much more they would take the body compared to Wsh. Their PP was a bit lucky but also well prepared for our style of D, clearly the extra prep time has helped them. Even though the shots are more even then anything we saw in the Wsh series, I think they executed their game plan perfectly and did exactly what they wanted, had it not been for a soft goal it would be 2-0. Thankfully we’re within 1 goal and theres plenty of hockey left.
Markov looked like he fell awkwardly on his knee, if its anything like Cammy’s injury well… I’ll have to revise my prediction to Pens in 4, because I don’t think Hamrlik has the gas to go back to those kinds of minutes.
It miraculously worked against the Caps, but the Habs have got to get some semblance of a forecheck going. This 2 chances a period is not going to do it. They have to skate in the offensive zone. The fatigue is really showing. It’s only 2-1, there is still time to adjust, we all know Pitts. is no defensive monster.
have to agree boone as much as i hate to..pitt in six or maybe five. just being realistic. the pens are much better balanced than the caps and pay attention to all zones . crosby is such a better player than OV and so many home boys who love playing against the HABS could make a difference….so it depends on how we play overall team defence , halak and stay out the box , it would be nice if BP and AK started to pot a few.
lets go boys bring it..
