Heh. Thanks Bear. The parents know each other well and all about my little Habs addiction. I’ve got offers through the ying-yang to transport my son to and from practice.
The ultimate problem is I can’t in good conscience sit comfortably at home in front of the big screen knowing this household’s other massive Habs fan is missing the game.
If JM pulls a Darche and dresses SK74 only to have him play 00:00…SK74 may just cause a too-many-men-on-the-ice penalty and try to get back at JM by trying to score on Halak…
Hopefully SK74 tries his best and that JM acknowledges that.
WTF is the sense of only playing him for 2 – 3 minutes. Loving what we’ve done in the playoffs and where we are but either all of us on HIO are missing something (esp with O’B) or…..
“Without the strength of the past, the team may face a choice – to win, or to be French-Canadian?” — Ken Dryden
Your dedication to your kid should be commended. Not all parents out there would make the same sacrifice, some would pawn their kid off on their spouse or another player’s parent. As for going to hell… if the Habs play like they did last game we will all feel like we’re already there…
Son’s soccer practice tonight from 7:30pm-9:00pm. Same goes for Thursday night. Both are smack dab through the heart of the Habs-Flippers games.
His next game is Saturday, 2:00pm-3:30pm in Dorval. Habs play at 3:00pm.
I attend all practices and games and suffer in silence. Can’t help the fact my son’s soccer coach is a thoughtless bastard, at least from a practice standpoint.
Those of you who plan to watch the next three games in the comfort of your cozy l’il rec room or at the local boisterous watering hole can all go to hell.
Time to invest in a PVR and tell everyone at the practice/game not to mention the score. That way both you and your son don’t miss a minute… but maybe he goes to bed a little late…
Yeah, JM is so lost, its not even funny. Bruce Boudreau said he was out coached by JM and he is one of the smartest coaches in the game. JM coaches a team that buys into his system and it beat the best team in the league in the regular season AND the Cup Champs…
Enough with the stupidity of grudges and personal vendetta’s. HE CARES ABOUT ONE THING. Winning. Don’t be stupid. Were not Philly fans.
There may be other teams, but only ONE Club De Hockey…
I think it’s pretty simple. Either we win tonight or make it close. If not we are done in this series.
RELAX about changes or non changes the team and JM has made. It makes little difference. We can complain about how 1 player in particular would have made us Cup champions after its over. For now let’s enjoy the team, the game and how far we got in a season YOU thought we wouldnt even make the Playoffs.
THIS IS A .501 TEAM. Thank goodness if you win 1 more game than you lose you can be CHAMPS…
GO HABS GO.
There may be other teams, but only ONE Club De Hockey…
The fundamental difference between the Flyers and the Pens/Caps is that the Flyers are loaded with 2 way players. They have 3 lines of 2 way players, which means that they will out-Hab the Habs at their own game given half the chance.
Which clearly they did Monday.
Luckily, the Tricolor have speed n their side and a lumbering defence to play against… They have, HAVE, H-A-V-E to lure the Flyers into the neutral zone and sprint by them on the outlet. This means some real aggressive back-checking and then some serious sprinting…
No more dicking around in Jaro’s zone. get puck, pass puck skate skate skate.
Just don’t send Gomer in alone, right Jason M? Huh? Huh?
JM is a gd twit. Does he expect MAB to clear the front of the net? I swear he is the least creative coach I have ever seen, and he coaches the playoffs likes its the regular season. He’s too busy trying to discipline or hold grudges, when his tactics will have minimal impact in a playoff setting. Our offense is not very good. Here’s a novel idea lets play our most offensive forwards on the top lines (SK and Pouliot). Even though they may be considered defensive liabilities not letting them play makes our offense suffer because guys like Moen and Darche are less likely to score goals. Wouldn’t it make sense as a defensive coach to play your more defensive defensemen?
1- Quick transitions out of our end. I suspect that this is the type of team that is prone to giving up a lot of odd-man rushes. They are a bigger team so obviously they will win their share of puck battles in our end, but in the times where we win battles along the boards we need to come flying out of our zone with the puck. We have to use the stretch pass in the second period with the long change, and catch their guys flat-footed.
2- Get on the board early. As much as Philly fans have a rep for being loud, the Wachovia Center was pretty dull for fans who have that rep and were watching a blowout. Scoring early will shut them up, and get in Leighton’s head. Dude just got a playoff shutout, so we need to bring his confidence level back down to earth.
3- Clear the traffic in front. We know Jaro isn’t exactly a battler for position in his crease, and the Philly forwards exposed that in the opener. Our D (here is where we need O’Byrne back in) need to get their ugly butts out of the blue paint so Jaro can see the shots. If he sees it, he stops it. End of story.
4- Better execution on the PP. Our play with the man advantage seems to be getting worse as the playoffs go on. I thought they were supposed to be dominant on the road. Even if MAB sits, you still have Subban and Spacek’s bombs from the point. Use it. The back door play only works with Markov (sorry Hammer), so keep two guys at the top and look for the garbage goals (deflections, rebounds) from the guys who go to the net (usually our smallest guys, sad but true).
5- Expose their third D pairing. Unfortunately, because we crapped the bed in the opener, Philly had the luxury of tossing out more minutes to Parent and Krajicek. There was a reason they were hidden from the Bruins; they are fringe NHLers and their +/- numbers in the regular season were ugly. A closer game means less ice time for the third pairing, which in turn wears down the top four much more, which plays to our advantage the deeper this series goes.
I think the first goal is a must for us tonight. I’d love to see some offensive fireworks and a solid 5-2 win. My biggest hope is that once we get the lead, we don’t sit back the rest of the way and wait for Jaro to bail us out. Play to win, get the next one. Don’t cling to a one goal lead and play not to lose. We can do this!
Thats why we in the US consider PHI, the worst sports city. These idiots pelted santa with snowballs, have spit on and thrown batteries and other objects at players. I mean the word class doesn’t excist in PHI, they’re horrible people.
Oh and they have to sweep the flyers in a 4-1 series and then zerg the stanley cup final in 4 as well. My playoff beard is getting WAY too itchy and I look like a homeless guy from a St-Cath alley …
I remember Biron having 3-4 horseshoes up his derrière and Umberger scoring on just about any of his shots. I remember one of these shots where he just whipped around and threw it at the net without looking and the puck went through a forest of players and ended up going in right in the top corner. That’s when I knew that fate would not be kind.
Don’t give up on these guys because they won’t.
That first game was downright weird. It was obvious that the Flyers had been told to be careful with penalties and it seemed the Habs were expecting to get hammered all the time.
Pouliot is odd to me. He’s trying but is he out of position? Why is the effort not translating into anything? I still think he’s worried about getting hit.
They HAVE to pull out a win and show the Flyers that they won’t be pushed around. It will be interesting to see if they can fight through the larger Flyers’ players and get some secondary scoring chances.
Also, JM tends to be good at making between game adjustments. Let’s hope he’s got some magic up his sleeves!
This series will go a long way to defining how the game should be played in the NHL…..a big bruising crew supported by smaller forwards lwith good skills like Gagne, Briere, Giroux, or a swift, versatile team of some smaller players with loads of skill supported by some bigger bodies….almost of like a Burke model compared to a Gainey model. I hope its the Gainey model, that style is a lot more fun to watch.
I agree, in 2008 we got NO bounces. It seemed to me that at least 2 of the 4 games they won were really determined by lucky bounces. I thought we were the better team. This year, the bounces have been going our way so far – let’s hope it turns around in this series, too.
Yea I’m pretty sure that was a backhanded comment. One of the main reasons we are here is because of Halak and Cammy, not JM’s coaching. Actually, I’d venture to say that Muller’s coaching has had more to do with our success than JM.
Canadiens love to bounce back in the playoffs, tonight will be much better than Sunday nighhe is.t was, i believe as always, as I did when we were down 1-3 against the President’s Trophy Team and down 3-2 against the Stanley Cup Champions. We handled the three best centres in the NHL and two of the five best scoring wingers in that time. We dismantled a Cup goalie and a top prospect goalie. Leighton will be exposed for what he is.l
Flyers will be full of themselves from the 6-0 romp, Canadiens will shock them with smarter, disciplined hockey.
That would be:
The big thing we need to do is take away their strwtch passes. The weason why Boston was good in the fiwst few games was to take away that strwtch pass. Now, if we need to chip in, we need to chip in on the swower side which is pwonger. The pwobwem is that the othew 4 defensemen aw vewwy mobile and big. We will have to capitawize on our speed. For that I give it to you. I also agwee with your last post about puck recovewy etc.
Apologies to Baba Wawa
the habs just have to keep their cool. The flyers have no little darlings who the refs are scared to penalize. They have a bunch of bone heads with spotted histories. Use speed to enter the zone and create this slow bunch to clutch and grab, then kill them on the PP. If we take dumb penalties again, we’ll be in trouble. Cooler heads prevailing for the habs will push these guys to the brink.
Their size didn’t win them the game, just their compete level. If we win tonight, all their momentum means nothing!
BOONE: Can you request another appearance on that Philly fan-radio-thing that demanded an explanation for your comparison between Philly and the Nazi army? Ask them how they feel about the vandalization of Hickey’s car?
I’m disgusted… God bless that man for his patience. My God, I would have been pissed.
“We didn’t give up and we are not giving up.” – Jaroslav Halak
The big thing we need to do is take away their strwtch passes. The reason why Boston was good in the first few games was to take away that strwtch pass. Now, if we need to chip in, we need to chip in on the slower side which is pronger. The problem is that the other 4 defensemen are very mobile and big. We will have to capitalize on our speed. For that I give it to you. I also agree with your last point about puck recovery. That will be key. We will need to want it more than them…
I don’t want the Habs to play the same game as they did vs. the Pens and the Caps. I would prefer they didn’t play a system that consisted of letting the other guys have the puck, letting them bomb our goalie from high-danger scoring areas, and praying Jaro Halak can hold up, while simultaneously praying someone scores an opportunistic goal on limited offensive opportunities. They can’t possibly keep winning playing that way.
“You just watch him holding on to the puck,” Melnyk said after the first playoff round (on Kovalev). “You can’t get to this guy. In many ways, he reminds me of, but with much more finesse, of Sidney Crosby.”
What is Eugene Melnyk smoking?
“I gotta feeling…that tonight’s gonna be a good night!”
Right after Game 1, I posted that I felt the same as I did after Game 5 of the Pittsburgh series which was indifferent. Yes, we lost 6 – 0 but I don’t think the score reflected the play and I don’t think the Flyers dominated us as much as the score would indicate.
We simply did not show up to this game, for whatever reason, and the Flyers did.
We’ve shown restraint in the two previous series, skating away from the garbage after the whistle. People like Carcillo are out there for a reason, to stir up shit and if you let them get under your skin, they will. Look at the job we did against the superstars in the first two series. Don’t ya think Crosby was just a little off his game?
We match up against the Flyers nicely but JM has to pull the collective head out of the ass of the team and get them back on track. Weather the storm of the crowd enthusiasm and pop in a goal or two to take them out. Get back to playing the same game we played versus the Caps and Pens.
If we allow them to coast through the middle of the ice untouched like we did in game one, this is going to be a quick series and we’re gonna be golfing soon. That’s how we flopped and floundered through the regular season.
Halak will be stellar tonight so it’s up to the rest to elevate their game and shake the cobwebs off.
“Without the strength of the past, the team may face a choice – to win, or to be French-Canadian?” — Ken Dryden
On this date 39 years ago,May 18,1971, Henri Richard scored 2 goals including the game winner, as the Habs beat the Black Hawks 3-2 to capture the Stanley Cup at Chicago Stadium.
True Halak got them in. True Halak has played well… very well in the playoffs. Halak is awesome. I love Halak.
On the other hand…
Carey hasn’t won in a while. He wasn’t stellar when he came in last game. But, in his last few starts, he’s really played some decent hockey. If you don’t give him the start this game, then he won’t (rather, shouldn’t) get one for the rest of the playoffs. Does that mean he should get game 3? I don’t know. I’d give him the start cuz I wanna see him succeed. But, like I said in my previous post, I’m not JM.
Suicide watch in MTL tonight, or just an opportunity for the Gainey haters to crawl out of the woodwork and go ‘ha-ha, we’re losing, I was right all along!’
Funny story, with the Halaking thing. I said to my class the other day, “The habs got shalacked the other
night” and then told them that if they don’t know what it means, to go look it up. Went home, told my wife, and she said, “What does it mean on the Internet?”
So, I went to Urban dictionary dot com there and typed in Shalacking… Check out # 2.
Halak has done all he can. You take out the President’s Trophy winners and the defending Stanley Cup Champions in 7 games each – there won’t be much left in the tank.
The Fyers are just the worst possible match up for us. Too big, too aggressive, too skilled, and it’s not much different than 2 years ago. They played hard. Playing two 7 game series is catching up with them physically. Gorges and Gill look very banged up and stiff.
I could go for a stiff cup of Larry Robinson right now.
HAHAHAHAHAHA. Now that is funny. Thank you for making me laugh bc I need it after this game. Thank you so much man I appreciate. Timo is a better fan than me. HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA. HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA.

Halak DID play like Roy and Dryden in those rounds, hence the comparisons. They couldn’t have played better. Roy and Dryden would also be 0-2 against the Flyers. Anyone even trying to pin anything on Halak is obviously doing it out of spite, because it is obvious idiocy to actually believe it. These people are cowards, who are just angry that Price is not what Halak has turned out to be and can’t find a better time to critisize Halak except for a time when the team hasn’t scored in 2 games. Everyone knows what the story is.
No way he deserves an F.! We’re making him look good … no shots high ..only some sustained pressure… he can be cracked…and he when does it’ll be a flood.
This isn’t done until we see what they can with a little Bell Centre backing to recharge and inspire, Hate tonight but I’m sticking with this. Seen them play much better than this, hopefully OB is back in for Thursday night as JM ends the MAB delusion.
Those of you calling for Price to start…I understand that is the first move to make if you need to try to change momentum…but Price has barely played in a few weeks and these are Halak’s playoffs to win or lose.
If you start Price, you are throwing him to the wolves with the series at the tipping point and it is disrespectful to Halak.
That goal was on Spacek (two more years at stupid money) and Hamrlik (one more year at stupid money). It’s really time for Molson to raid the Flyers scouting staff. Seriously. Throw great money at them.
They’re miles ahead of the Habs in terms of finding gems with lower picks.
At least Boston scored a goal. And won three games. That is just my point though. The Bruins have the worst collapse in playoff history and we will top it in the very next series.
Time to sit back, let Halak face 20+ shots in the third, refuse to shoot unless on a break away or two on one and we should come out on top… Back to basics guys. No more of this outshooting the opposition nonsense.
What a shameful disgrace. 9-0. Blanked twice by a minor league goalie. Brutal, disgusting. I hope when it is late in the third in game 3 and they have yet to score the fans at the Bell give it to them.
Shiloh really is the biggest conundrum for me when it comes to the player drafting argument, thinks Price was a wasted pick, but defends Andrei to the death when 2 of the 3 top players from the 2005 draft (Crosby, Ryan, Kopitar) two of them went 1st and 2nd overall are the only ones to be known impact players in the NHL, when you compare Andrei against 6, or even 7 guys if you want to stretch to 2nd round and note Shea Weber who are known impact players and all but Carter were Olympians for USA and Canada.
It would help if they could jump on a rebound to two because there sure have been a bunch of them off this guy. Nobody has any intent to go anywhere near the front of the net when it matters. And the penalties are just killing us. JM better get The System back on track. The System holds the key!
the habs were 23rd in scoring in the reg season….this team has minimal forwards who score regularly…next year this team may even have less scoring during reg season if plecks,ak46 leave…if not for some late goals and flukey/bad goaltending goals we could have been shut out in 3 other games in the playoffs
Funny though, I wouldn’t have thought of them as a serious contender 2 months ago. But they play just the way they have to and to the best of their abilities. I still think the Habs can get back in this if (big “if” here) they play a more aggressive style themselves. Not necessarily on the body, but on the puck, like they ddi against the Pens. Don’t try to carry the puck in when the Flyers are lined up 4 at the blue line, dump and chase. Then be on the puck in the corners, own the corners, and get at least one guy in front. He doesn’t have to get in the goalie’s face but at least be there. And for f*** sake cut out the DA penalties. Killer! Back to what got us by the Caps and Pens.
We’ll see. Thursday should be rockin in the Telephone Booth.
i never said this has anything to do with the goalie… im just saying he has been very very very lucky…. and his luck has run out
0-8 on the powerplay is due to the fact that philly’s d is too big and habs aren’t strong enough to push to the front of the net, and the fact that the PP is completely one-dimensional and relies completely on a big shot from the point that never comes because an opposing house league coach can develp a system to stop that
1) I think we got away with as many as they did. We were our own worst enemy tonight, with undisciplined penalties, and an utter inability to make them pay when we had the man-ad.
2) Some day, I just hope JM will be asked, preferably by the club president, why the hell he insists on using MAB. As Booner pointed out at one point, he is actually physically painful to watch.
3) That was an experiment that went nowhere. I hope this will finally shush the Sergei choir here who plead and bray for him to get ice-time. He truly looked like he didn’t care.
4) Yes, and yes.
5) This should not even be a topic. Halak isn’t the reason we are down two games, but he is a BIG part of the reason why we are still playing in the second half of May. He is the horse we have to ride. We’ll see how he bounces back on home ice.
Well at least I’m in Lima watching the game. Just got the RDS feed on atdhe.com on a week wireless feed in the 3rd floor lobby of a inexpensive hotel on Avenida Cuba.
Could we out shoot them all series and lose? Yes! God Damn!
as good as halak has been. he is been discovered. shoot up high =goal. put a big body in tere for a game and make the flyers think twice. the team also has to get leighton moving more. no more perimeter bs
GO HABVS.
take em back to philly tied!!! GO HABSSSSS>>>> PLAY PRICE
MAB is bait. They forecheck hard on him with two skaters and we counter-punch by rushing up ice, 4 on 3. MAB trails, blasts it home. At least, that’s on paper.
Dryden and Roy were Cup winners, Halak is not a Cup winner YET…the comparisons should not be made, because when you compare a “new” goalie to Cup winners, people assume the “new” goalie is going to be a Cup winner and will get upset if he does not.
And yes, the team has scored zero goals in two games…but Halak let in four in Game #1, if the Habs were able to score two or three goals like they are supposed to, they would have still lost….same for Game #2, if the Habs scored three, the game would still not be decided. If the Habs had scored goals, they should have had a good chance to win but the number of goals allowed did not help.
How the hell does a third-string goaltender shutout the Habs in consecutive games?? Montreal’s edge in this series was supposed to be goaltending but right now Philly has the edge at all three positions. Hopefully they can take care of home ice at least.
Price is definately not the answer to this series. I can’t say that with more certainty. The people who want him to play are the ones who don’t care about the team whatsoever. They called for Price all season, down the stretch, after game 2 and 3 of the Caps series, after game 1 of the Pens series and now again.Where would this team be if JM had listened to them even one of those times?….Exactly….So tell me, how serious does one take these geniuses?
Not so much where you shoot on Leighton is the ability to get him out of position…that would mean moving the puck around in front of the Flyers net and having someone in the crease…have not seen that yet…Habs cannot get position in front of the net…period…Seems like no one wants to pay the price…who will step up?
“The ‘System’ will not stop until it owns Lord Stanley’s Cup…All hail the System!”
Here’s my thought: move PK Subban to the first line wing spot, and let him off the chain. Tell him to go out and score goals. PK has the rushing ability of Gomez, with the shot of Bergeron, and the determination of Moen and Metro.
Put SK with his brother and Pleks and put Cammi with Gomez and Gionta. Play those two lines and PK Suban like crazy, if we lose this game and get shut out it is OVER.
“Good judgement comes from experience, and experience comes from bad judgement.”
All they need is one goal, to get them going and hurt Leighton’s confidence. They’re making Leighton look better than he is. He’s seeing everything.
Once they get that one goal, they’ll start pouring in.
BUT – they need to score early in the 3rd game….and get the first goal!!!!
Put O’bryne back in, and only play MAB on the PP. He is just a terrible defenseman. Only thing he has is a shot. Not even a good quarter back for the PP.
Pleks and the K brothers would be first on my list outa town for prospects. Useless players when it matters. Sick of watching them spin their wheels in mud. Bye!
DO NOT turn this into a Price-Pusher vs. Halak-Pusher thing…it isn’t…changing goalies IS the logical thing to do and the majority of coaches would do it…but given the debate that has raged all season in Montreal, this logic does not apply.
You may be right, but I have a feeling there were a few around in the last 6 years. Through the draft, trades or free agency, if you thought it was a worthwhile asset to have. If you didn’t put much stock in that type of player well…..
at least I won money as the odds makers were still giving montreal some respect, that quite clearly was not deserved…. if philly keeps getting odds like this i’m going to be rich!
Canadiens always have an issue with some ***hole they yank out of nowhere and stick in nets, no matter the opponent. It’s pathetic but it’s a constant with us.
Leightons giant horseshoe is going to fall out of his arse when he steps on the Bell Centre ice. It’s embarassing that we were shutout by an AHL backup again. I think his shutout streak will end within the first five of game three
I am guessing you are some dumb 12 year old bc you are missing the entire point here BUDDY. This clown Timo bashed the team the entire regular season from management to all the players. Never had anything positive to say…THey make the playoffs and he says 4 games and done. They go down 3-1 to Washington and tears everyone apart saying they are pathetic, dont try, etc etc (I am being nice comprared to what he was saying)…They come back win the series and he celebrates. Really, I mean really…They go down to Pitt he tears apart the team again…They come back and he celebrates…Again really?…And now they are down 2 games to 0 and tears apart the team…Timo is a frickin joke! Plain and simple! The end! Goodbye CHIEF.

Back to back shutouts, will Leighton be shaky in MTL? Not likely, the guy has the most confidence he’s probably had in his whole career, undefeated this playoffs and destroying this team, we’re in trouble now.
Its not over, PHI showed us its never over till its over, but ALOT needs to change overnight for us to even have a chance. We carried play, but rarely turned that into chances, or atleast good ones. We need to turn into a completely different style of team, crash and bang for our chances, it won’t be easy, but its possible, anythings possible.
The people who are calling for Price are doing so just for spite, to the people who justifyingly and rightly thought Halak should be starting all this time. I am 100% sure they wouldn’t say the same if Price was in these games if he had played like Halak all year and Halak had played like Price. It is just crazy to think putting Price in is a good move. It is not the logical thing to do, by any stretch of the imagination. It is lunacy. Why would you put a guy in who has won 3 games in all of 2010 ahead of a guy who has had the kind of year and playoffs Halak has, when he just lost 2 games where his team didn’t even score 1 goal. There is not one hockey guy who would say play Price in this pivitol game 3, where if things can work out, the Habs are back in the series. Considering the games we watched, it’s really just ridiculous that this is the topic we are discussing. Montreal fans are supposed to be so knowledgable, sometimes I think a lot of them are delusional, how far they get away from reality.
So for all the posters here who love MAB, Spacek, and Hammer, why did we even draft OB in the first place? He played his butt off for us and now his reward is to sit on in the press box and watch a bunch of high-priced free agents suck it up.
And you’re two-faced, you were over the moon with this team not so long ago but now that things are going down you’re back to sniping the entire team because you think you know all there is to know about drafting.
If we have learned anything, its that this edition of the habs do their best when their backs are against the wall.
Even if its 3-1 heading back to philly, I aint counting em out. Philadelphia is not as good as Washington. They are not as good as Pittsburgh. The Bruins had them down 3-0. They can be beaten.
One game at a time – win game 3 and take it from there. 2-1 is a very salvageable series.
The crowd at the Bell Centre will have them flying; Leighton’s bubble is gonna burst, and when it does, the Habs will destroy these guys in the next two.
You know full well that it is only a few of those calling for Price are the hardcore Price guys and getting you hardcore Halak guys back tit for tat (fair enough)…the rest are going with the tried and true hockey “playbook”. So please do not make this a hardcore vs. hardcore thing. You are trying to stick up for Halak just like the Price guys were and good on you but this is not about hardcore vs. hardcore.
Habs Need to use SPEED to their advantage next game, Thru the neutral zone and instead of trying to carry that puck over , DUMP and Chase and use the speed to our advantage, which opens up the ice. Make the BIG Flyer defence turn and chase the puck and BY the 3RD period we will have them where we need them to be. At the least we should be skating them into the ground. Just skate all night and dump and chase, USE ALL 200 feet of ice. We havent won a single period, all 6 periods we lost so far. and we look like the slower team as well.
“Price is definately not the answer to this series. I can’t say that with more certainty. The people who want him to play are the ones who don’t care about the team whatsoever”
Your comment is ridiculous. I have watched and cheered this team since 1968 so I care. I am currently on the Halak is our number one band wagon. But the reality is that he was not sharp again tonight and looked mentally tired. He looked like this at the beginning of the Washington series and after sitting and watching a whole game from the bench, he came back as super Halak for three games in a row. So at the point, mix things up and that includes sitting Halak for a game and bring him back for game 4. This might wake up the rest of the team, which is the real problem.
C’mon man, you’re not even making sense or understanding what I said. Price was the wrong answer this season, in round 1 and round 2, because sticking with Halak proved to be the right move. The Habs made the playoffs, won round 1 and round 2 mostly because of Halak. If we would have went Price, 99% it wouldn’t have went that way. Where, in the series you are talking about, Price lost 8 in a row and was not successful. Different situations see.
Man, where has the try gone from this team? Suddenly we’re looking at the same batch of clock punchers that just about missed the playoffs. It’s just sad to come this far and give up. I guess they really believed, like the rest of us, that it’d be four and out in the first round. They finally get to a round that they should be able to win, and there’s no compete left in them. Thought I’d be happy because they made it through two rounds, but I’m finding this hard to take.
Not directly of course, but when the team doesn’t think their goalie can win it for them, they tend to have issues. On them of course, but it’s a troubling tactic and it also seems to be a part of the coaching philosophy, shooting for the early lead and leaning it on too much, adjustments for offence come too late. Canadiens do best when they score first, scored against, it’s an ugly road if we can’t get back in the 1st.
Still believe, but the Flyers have had 14 games of Canadiens playing to analyze how to disrupt our plans.
ummm when a team doesnt score the amount of goals against means $hit. Halak could of let in ONE goal and we still would have lost. Why can’t you see that????? No wonder I never post here, too many idiots.
darche cannot score at this level…pyatt cannot score at this level…moen 6-8 goals a year…lapps 6-8 goals a year…metro cannot score regularly 5 on 5…moore 10-12 goals a year..gomez 12-15 goals a year…ak46 22 goals in 30 games and 0 in 50…sk74 8-10 goals a year..pouliot looks like he is what he was in minnesota…plecks 25 goals a year..gion 30 goals and camm 40 goals…based on this forward line up we should be happy and amazed that we beat wash and pitts…we would be life and death vs any team in the nhl in a playoff series…if you look at the forward line up and your not a biased habs fan this forward line up is not that good…most teams can match and better this line up…we are full of forwards that have no scoring ability and forwards who score in bunches but disappear for very long streches….the amazing and great wins in the firts round have fooled many hab fans into thinking that this team is better than what it is…it is really a 90-94 point team at best
Whatever man, It’s a pointless discussion anyway. It’s like arguing who we should put in the lineup to score goals MAB or O’Byrne. It’s just so not the story that people are trying to make it. How about discussing why we haven’t scored in 120 mins and what to do about it? You’re talking fairly reasonably, so I’m not even referring to you. And you’re right, it’s only a few bad apples that are trying to spoil the lot.
That percentage should be even worse bc Briere’s goal in Game 1 was scored 1 second after the Flyers PP ended. So although technically not a PP goal, it really was.

^This, dress the 7 D and just play MAB on the PP. Sit someone, maybe SK74/Puliot and use MAB on the 4th line. I don’t even understand how he is, or has ever been considered a defenseman, he’s a mighty mite sized human hula-hoop. Might as well play some shifts as a 4th line wing, he actually has decent speed, I think he’d be much better as a wing.
And AK46…..just makes me sick right now, Only need to watch him for a shift to see how low his confidence is. I would have taken losing 10-1 if he could just get one to get going right now.
This team deserves nothing. As embarrassing top to bottom as one could ever imagine. Just beaten like a bunch of children. Semi Finals for the Cup and No goals through almost 2 games. Flyers are barely trying too. The weak, soft, non-playoff team, that ww all thought Gainey built is now coming out. And trust me, it pains me greatly to say that.
Could not figure out why we had no crease presence all night…No so much a shut-out as a score-out…not one real quality chance except PK’s shot near the end…
Hard to bag on Jaro when the offense goes invisible…
I hate to lose…but I hate losing when the Habs do not even compete…
Flyers are a way better team and playing better than the Pens and Caps…
We could have had Laviolette…that guy gets the most out of his teams…Flyers look like the Canes but tougher…He was sitting in Florida after the Canes threw him under the bus…
Notice tonight the Flyers never let up…they keep coming even when they have the game in hand…Habs looked like pouting schoolboys…
“The ‘System’ will not stop until it owns Lord Stanley’s Cup…All hail the System!”
OK…who stole the Montreal Canadiens??? This group of jackasses who insist on flipping the puck from 30 feet at the goaltenders belly is not the team I saw beat Washington and Pittsburgh…
truth is, habs overachieved in the 2 series vs Wash and Pitt. this is the real habs, the team that finished with 88 points, no better.
they don’t have much talent, basically only 2 goal scorers, that’s it. they were very lucky against Pitt and Wash, because those teams aren’t physical. habs never match up well vs physical teams and never scored goals by going to the net. habs don’t have the right players to play a grinding in your face, go to the net style. habs wre built for the regular season only.
Gainey screwed up this team badly by signing smurfs. maybe yopu fluke out for 2 rounds, but not for 4 rounds.
We’ve been saying for 17 years we need to get bigger, yet we never do!
again this offseason we’ll say it again, and again another dumb GM won’t do it.
next season expect still very small players. It will never change and we’ll never win a cup till it does change!
Congrats to Philly for having a brilliant scouting director. Are you listen Timmons?
Agree. Time for Price. Time to push back for God’s sake. Played like scared children tonight. Wish Martin was better at lighting a fire under his troops. Seems incapable of that
Are people gonna get off that O”Byrne/MAB BS already. What the hell difference would O’Byrne have made? MAB was a non factor either way tonight. He played better than Gomez and Gionta, that’s for sure. Those guys disgusted me tonight with their weak play. It’s just trivial.
Phily is doing what they want. We might win 1 at home on adreneline, but it should be quick. One way or another Philly will get smoked by Chicago or SJ. It won’t be funny.
Cya in 4 habs. There’s no way unless Martin tears them new holes……how he let this go on for three periods is beyond me. It’s not like Philly was playing wiley – they just didn’t try.
MAB is playing terrible hockey. Subban had a pretty sweet rush but his shot got deflected. AK46′s rush was the highlight for the Habs. Third goal was very weak and killed any chance of a comeback not that one was coming anyway. Hopefully Halak can regain his mojo on home ice.
Unless Leighton is actually pulling a Craig Anderson, the Habs should win on Thursday. The roles have definitely been reversed as the Flyers have been scoring very opportunistic goals.
These guys continue to defy the odds. They won when they were supposed to lie down and play dead and, now, they’re expected to win and they get shut out, in back to back games, by a third string goalie. Excellent!
The Halak guys on here are not pleased that some are throwing Halak under the bus…guess what, guys? Welcome to reality…hero one day, goat the next whether that treatment is deserved or not. Price got the same treatment from some of you guys.
The comparisons to Dryden and Roy do not help because they set expectations TOO high, TOO soon. The comparisons should always be made after ALL is said and done.
With that said, Price should NOT start Game #3 as some have suggested. These are Halak’s playoffs to win or lose, he should see this through (but ask me again after Game #3).
Jm’s love affair with MAB has got to be put back in the closet. That is just down right nonsence. Useless even on the PP. Please sit him in the pressbox and play OB in his place. MAB can’t even hit or make a breezer outlet pass. Bring back the breezer for shit sake, he can’t be as bad as MAB.
That is because the Habs are small and score on the quick counter strike rush. They have no capacity to grind it out on the boards and cycle the puck for a dirty goal, like the Bruins can.
Size does matter when you face a team that plays the left wing trap like the Flyers and Devils. There is no “system” and never was one. The Habs collapsed on Halak and blocked as many shots as they could and relied on Halak to shut the door. When Halak is ordinary and Cammi and Gionta are not scoring on 50% of their shots the so called “system” is revealed for the farce it is.
“Good judgement comes from experience, and experience comes from bad judgement.”
1. MAB is killing the Habs with his constant giveaways and poor reads from the point;
2. SK74 gave no effort tonight whatsoever. .
3. Halak is looking very ordinary. Time to change things up and go with Price in game 3. That allows you to go back to a rested Halak in Game 4, but IMO, Price will win game 3 and earn the next start.
4. The officiating during the playoffs this year is by far the worst I’ve ever seen. The calls on Gomez and Subban were pure bush league. Philly is constantly holding and hooking Cammy & Pleks and the Habs get no calls. Having said that, the Habs got away with a few tonight. The BS calls are killing them though.
Montreal will win the next 4 games, 3 of which will be in Montreal. The first shot on Leighton in Game 3 will go in. The Habs will win the next game in Philly in double overtime. I’ve already visualized the remainder of the series.
That being said, the only way to get back at these Philly fans is to sing “God Bless America” whenever the Habs have the lead. And for those of you who are in Montreal, keep an eye out for Pennsylvania license plates!!!!!
I drafted Leino really high this season in my fantasy pool because I was convinced he was going to win the Calder…..massive bust in Detroit, now killing my hopes and dreams in Philly
It simply highlights the weakness of JM. His stubbornness, personal issues with particular young players and his inability to make proper roster changes to ice the BEST possible team.
Have you seen adjustments on the PP, PK or the top two lines? When all you do is replace Pouliot with a player who has not played in ten months…...I HAVE A PROBLEM.
“Good judgement comes from experience, and experience comes from bad judgement.”
The team is cursed. The hockey Gods are just mocking Hab fan loyalty and emotion. AFter knocking off the best two teams in hockey in unbelievable, improbable fashion, getting everyone believing, we are now going to be utterly humiliated and lose four straight without scoring a goal. It will be the worst collapse in playoff history.
We had the hockey gods on our side. Then arshole fans in montreal decided to tear apart the city because we won a series….gods are now angry at us and we are to be smited.
I’d be surprised if we even got a goal in this one….karma sucks, way to go dumbasses.
No other city in the world acts this way, what a bad sports town Montreal is.
”You miss 100% of the shots you never take.” – Wayne Gretzky
i can’t find one post that BLAMES halak for that…. everyone is clearly saying that he played like shi@ and he did…. the whole team sucked including him
hablifting, you now have concrete evidence you’re not from Toronto, because only a leafs fan would think Gomez could be unloaded for anything of value.
The System has suffered a setback, nothing more. However you would be well advised to book that hall again. I’ll tell Showey to start the potato salad and I’ll pick up the ham tomorrow.
Will Leighton beat us in 4 straight shutouts? I think I’ll go insane if it happends. But Philly does a great job forcing our little guys to the outside, I don’t see how we’ll ever score at this point.
Just for the record. flyers have 17 players 6″ feet or over and 11 under. We have 15 players 6″ feet and over and 11 under. (not including the goalies) as per Fox Sports rosters. So the 2 more players over 6 ” feet make us so much smaller? We outshoot them both games. Yes we are being Haleked.
They don’t deserve better. Losing 2 games is one thing, getting shutout back to back and having our own song mockingly chanted against us 2 games in a row, and having the whole hockey world laughing at how easy it is for a Flyers team that’s not even going 100%? With that kind of effort, they deserve the critisism.
The team hasn’t scored a goal in two games, how exactly is that Halaks fault? He could have let in one goal in game one, and one goal in game two, AND WE STILL WOULD HAVE LOST!!! Please explain your nonsense to us how this is Halaks fault.
The Habs are about to be shut out back-to-back in the play offs by the 7th seed….just when you thought Jacques Martin’s jinx was gone (and his job was secure…).
This has nothing to do with goaltending. Halak should not have to carry
the team for every game, and Leighton is not a great goalie; we are
just making him look good. The Habs just can’t score. It is so
frustrating to watch!
It will be easy and completely wrong to blame Halak for this game. They should regroup now, rethink their offence and help their goalkeeper with some shots. It could have been 0-3 moments before, but he stopped Leino. Where was the defence then?
No I will not ignore his ignorant posts. He bashed this team left and right ALL THE TIME, but when they do something good he acts like he has been behind them the whole time and pretends to celebrate. He is a joke and an embarassment to real Habs fans worldwide!!

Man… 5 days ago it was Halak is God. We LOVE Gainey… bla bla bla. Now suddenly it’s all Halak’s fault? Gainey sucks? JM sucks?
Sure, Halak let in a soft goal. Maybe JM shoulda played O’Byrne. Maybe Gainey’s team isn’t as good as we thought.
My humble opinion? No one gave the Habs a chance against PIT, WSH. NO ONE. Even all of you were saying there was no way. Well, guess what? Gainey, Halak, JM, and everyone involved with the Habs proved you (99% of you wrong.) It sucked to watch these games, I know… I watched. It really sucked.
This is where we see if our team has character. If our fans are real fans. Whoever starts in net in MTL (likely Halak, but personally, I’d give Price a go) better get respect from the crowd. NO MATTER WHAT. What kind of fans taunt their own goaltender – that was f’n ridiculous (last year). In fact, don’t taunt any goaltender. Every time I hear the “FLEEEUUURY… FLEU…RY” or whatever goalie chant, it just reminds me of the time Hab fans turned on their own golden boy. I’m sure Price consciously or subconsciously feels the same way. Habs fans can be the best fans and the worst fans. YES, many people expected us to win this series since we beat PIT and WSH. But when we beat WSH, did their fans taunt their own players? Did PIT fans taunt Fleury when he let in quite a few questionable goals in GAME 7? NO! They hung their heads and felt sad and sorry for their goaltender.
Now, you can all make your suggestions (as I can make mine) but remember that you aren’t the coach or the GM. You aren’t getting paid the big bucks to make the big decisions. STOP BEING DOUCHES.
at least on Saturday we don’t have to hear philly fans at the Bell Centre. So habs will be finished off in front of their own fans.
in the offseason please trade both Price and Halak for goal scorers. and then bring up Desjardins and annoint him as as #1 goalie, or trade for a bona fide goalie, not a 1 trick pony!
I have to disagree with those Cherry supporters who think the only way for us to beat Philly is by playing like Philly…crash the net, run the goalie etc. The team hasn’t played that kind of game all year, so it’s unlikely they’ll suddenly be successful changing their style. Besides, there’s no way we can out-Philly, Philly. Speed and special teams are what got us where we are this year. If we can’t get those things going…goodnight ladies.
He has not played full contact competetive hockey in well over a month! Throw him into a high tempo playoff game and what do you expect him to do? Score a hat trick?
“Good judgement comes from experience, and experience comes from bad judgement.”
We had the chances on the PP, but nothing. It’s hard to justify MAB’s existence when the PP hasn’t cashed in and that’s all he’s good for.
Our best players are supposed to be our best players, and Pleks has been insignificant, and Gomez and Gionta have taken unnecessary penalties leading to goals.
We’re not the “team” that won against Washington or Pitt, we’re frustrated individuals — the team we’ve been used to seeing 95% of the time during the regular season.
I love positive posts like this one. Whats the point of gloating after those two losses ? we are heading home to our building playing in the our first conference final since 93′. The bell is gonna be on fire and i fearlessly predict that the habs will show up and will get a few goals against Leighton.
Hey Boone, Stubbs or even Hickey..can u ask Martin what his fascination is with MAB and why does he leave a right handed shot dman who is big in the press box..i would like to hear the question and answer…some one please..
Don’t even try to compare Price to Halak. I saw Price come in last game and let in 2 bad goals in short order. Price has lost 9 playoff games in a row. The team is here at thois point for only one reason, Halak. You see what happens when he is not a miracle worker? Bob Gainey’s weak team is exposed.
are you drunk? are you not reading these posts? do you just see halaks name in a post and assume we are blaming halak? not once does he blame halak for anything. he is just stating that halak is not the second coming of roy like some people were saying after the last 2 series
I never blamed Halak..I am just pointing out that Halak is getting the Price treatment now…I only blame him for the third goal…also, please notice that I said that Halak should get Game #3 as these are his playoffs to win or lose…
So please, read the entire post and stop being silly and emotional….you said that idiots post here and that is why you don’t….guess what, only idiots post when they do not read what they are responding to.
Actually, the worst comparison you mention is comparing Price to Halak. Halak had a great year and won two rounds all by himself. Price had a poor year and has consistently flaked in the playoffs.
Pretty funny that you guys are so eager to get back to criticizing the one guy who’s been a bright light for the Habs all year.
I actually saw an nhl show featuring Scott Hartnell and he actually lives in a penthouse condo in downtown Philadelphia. It’s ballin however i do agree that he looks like the caveman from the Geico commercials.
The Habs have to understand that there is a difference between working harder and working smarter.
Last night, they worked harder than they did in Game 1, but not smarter and it was the same result. No one going to the net, no one getting to loose pucks or picking up rebounds, no on to screen the goalie or deflect a puck.
that was a bs call. Refs should use better judgment than that. Gomez could have let go of his stick completely and it still would have been horizontal because Giroux was holding it.
The offense is overdue. The had a few decent looks and missed some second opportunities. Ak46 scores on the next rush he gets. Game 3, 4-1 Habs.
I fully agree that three rounds is because of Halak….but when you get three rounds, people’s hopes get up and when the team starts to lose, attitudes go in the dumpster pretty quickly…do you not agree, that comparisons to Dryden and Roy should NOT be made only after two rounds?
And please do not be upset that Halak is getting some rough treatment now…it is what it is…for some, hero one day and scapegoat the next. I do not like it either, but at least I understand where some of these criticisms are coming from…also, you are saying no comparisons to Price, you Halak-pushers are blaming lack of scoring, I hate to break it to you, but the Price-pushers also blamed lack of scoring against the Flyers and you folks dismissed that out of hand and just said that Price sucks, not the goal-scorers…
We’re outplaying them, no way around it, 2 reasons they’re winning, Leighton and the special teams. Their PK has completely shut down our PP and their PP just scores at will. Its a complete dominance in that category.
Then theres this Leighton fella, when we shoot high he’s on his feet, taking away all the shooting room. But then when we shoot low, he’s on his knees and using quick feet. The guy is on FIRE, plain and simple, theres no easy way to beat him right now. Only thing left to do is crash the net Philly style and get ugly goals. Can a small team do that? I don’t know.
I think they’ll come back and play harder. They actually played pretty well but didn’t cash in on their chances. They’ll need to stop hitting Leighton in the chest with just about every shot.
The team has nothing left. Halak is shaky – he looks tired, mentally. PP sucks – no one in front of the net. PK is a joke. Team cannot score.
Time for a shake-up. Sit Halak and give Price a start. It might jump-start the team. Sit MAB and start OB. MAB is useless on the PP as well – cannot shoot the puck, cannot keep the puck at the point.
Enough with passing back to our points. Bring everything to the net with lots of bodies. We need screens, deflections and rebounds.
Another game where we won most of the battles but can’t score. Leighton sucks man, he is so damn lucky. No one on our team has a great shot tonight, all of them right at Leighton. Go Highside for F.s sakes!!
Did you not read what I wrote? I said OTHERS are blaming Halak and that the criticisms thrown at Price for losing to the Flyers are now being lobbed at Halak…I only blame Halak for the 3rd goal….how many times would like me to say it:
THESE ARE HALAK’S PLAYOFFS TO WIN OR LOSE – PRICE SHOULD NOT GET GAME #3
What possible good in any way will that do? Price came in last game and the Flyers banged in another couple of goals like Price and the Habs were not even there.
I don’t think those two games could have been more disappointing. So close to the cup finals and we go out and lay two eggs. Few points:
1) To get it out of the way, Tim Peel is still a joke. It was by no means why we lost and the calls were pretty bad both ways, but these res don’t know the rules. That first call on Gomez, Giroux locked his arm down on Gomez’ stick and 91 wasn’t putting any tug on it. Res ignored a number of hits from behind and high sticks but called a bunch of garbage. Why bother even having refs if they’re going to call games like that. As I said, didn’t have anythign tod o with the outcome, but both the first two games, like the entire playoffs, have shown brutally inconsistent reffing.
2) MAB. We all know it except JM won’t admit it. I’d rather lose with OB, a big guy who can hit, fight, and play with some intensity, and who might actually gain experience by playing in the playofs. MAB is a write-off and will be gone after this season. He is not performing on the PP, he doesn’t even deserve to be in the line-up at this point.
3) SK74 showed zero effort tonight. I don’t think he cares about playing for JM anymore. It’s a shame, but I don’t think there’s any reason to play him any more if he’s already given up.
4) AK46 played his best game in a long time tonight. He was one of the few Habs to show up. roman Hamrlik also did well, with the exception of the Flyers 2nd goal. Other than that, not much positive to say about any of the players.
5) I don’t think JM will even consider going back to Price next game. Halak has lost two but with our poor offensive production it’s hard to take out the guy who got you here for that. Leighton is not Ryan Miller, he is a career minor-leaguer who has climbed into the line-up through injury. He is letting up tons of rebounds, the Habs just aren’t getting to them. It is reallynot that hard. the Habs are doing okay getting intot the zone and then it just dies. Everyone stays on the perimeter and there is porr puck support. Habs need to not be afraid to take the puck to the middle of the ice and shoot from the slot. They need to be more inventive over the last 90 feet and get more traffic to the net. That’s how you beat a goalie who has poor puck control. Would be nice if our players and coaches actually bought into that.
How is 2-0 down to PHI worse than 3-1 to WSH? Now, I must admit that even I thought it was over at 3-1 down to WSH. Still, have some faith. And saying “this is over” is not really contributing much to the discussion.
Last comment for the night for me: If you think the Philly fans gave them a tough time singing their own lame-ass Olé song back to them, how do you think our fans will act if they turn in a third game like that one?
While I’m dissapointed, I can’t say I’m surprised. Philly in these playoffs has finally become the team they were supposed to be all season. A team that can roll 3 deadly scoring lines (and you can just shutter thinking that Jeff Carter will be back soon), a fourth line that can drive you nuts, and a dominant defense anchored by one the third best defenceman of his generation in Pronger (behind Niedermayer and Lidstrom). Chicago and Philly are proving this year that if you have these things that a high-priced big name goaltender is unnecessary.
I never criticized him….don’t you regulars EVER read what is written?
And when he wins two rounds by himself…people are going to expect him to win the other two rounds by himself and will be bitterly disappointed if he does not.
Panic panic panic. Don’t worry guys. It was one game. If I’ve learned anything in these playoffs its that we shouldn’t get too high or too low after just ONE GAME. If we lose tonight the same way, well then I might panic.
We are totally getting a taste of our own medicine. We’re playing
well, but they are shutting us down like we did to the Caps and the
Pens, and being as opportunistic as we were.
I just don’t get JM’s idea of not playing O’Byrne. MAB should be in the lineup, but just for PP’s and occasional 4th line duty. Yes, O’Byrne makes mistakes, but still he’s an NHL player who brought some phyisical presencence.
You have to hand it to the Flyers — and the Habs are doing exactly that — for their performance over the past two games. They have been aggressive, but not overly chippy. They go to places where goals can be scored.(The Habs are just way too perimeter to be successful.) Their goaltending has been excellent. Laviolette has out-coached Martin. (Wow, huge tweak putting SK in the lineup.) And, to top it all off, the officiating has been a non-issue.
Habs will really have to step it up at the Bell Centre. For the love of God PLLLLLLLLLLLLLEEEAAASSSEEE score a goal or two will ya Habs! I’m too depressed to listen to the CJAD post game. Good Night all.
A lot of the adjustments that have been made ARE working! I see a lot of defensemen pinching, and it’s working. I see a hard, two-man forecheck. I see the Flyers only getting chances on the PP. The Canadiens just need to be a little disciplined.
This team has heart. They are giving it their all. Leighton will break.
C’mon boys, BIG third period, they CAN win this game!
I agree about playing Price next game. Habs lose game 3. Then JM keeps the same line-up but puts back Halak for game 4 and the Habs win the rest of the games in the series making it 9-0 with their backs against the wall.
What?
Tell me that prior to the play-offs predicting the Habs would beat both the Caps and the Pens in 7 game series was realistic. I can suspend reality too.
Agreed. Especially on the Bros K. I wanna see them work some magic together. Ya SK wasn’t impressive today but he didn’t have an enormous amount of time to prove himself either. I didn’t really see him with the puck at all and his linemates weren’t much help. Metropolit is great, and usually plays with so much heart, but you can tell he’s just not at 100% right now.
Our problem all season has been secondary scoring, whenever our top players are scoring, the team usually wins…If our top scorers cant score, and our secondary scorers cant score…no matter how good Halak Plays, we cant win, its that simple…Gio and Camz have had what almost 50% of our goals this post season? when they dont score, were screwed…
“I went to see a fight the other night…And A hockey game broke out!” ~Rodney Dangerfield~
The reverse is true, too. When the team plays bad, the goalie is exposed.
By the way, Price came in cold, underworked, and surrendered 2 goals in 30 minutes. Halak? 4 in 30 minutes. You can’t play the “Price was crap” blame game.

This is tough to take. But CBC (Cole, Healy, Millen, Sherry) make me wanna step outside and slam my head in the car door a few dozen times. I want my money back. P.S: STFU you dumbazz empty-headed hedgepigs.
Come on forskis you and I both know the same idiots who were comparing Halak to Roy were the ones proclaiming PK was a Norris Trophy winner and the next superstar and JM a genius. No one takes them seriously as intelligent, reasoned and objective analysis is not part of their repertoire. Halak has been very very good but has not proven anything yet.
“Good judgement comes from experience, and experience comes from bad judgement.”
What terrible effort, I would have at least thought there wouyld be some life to the team, but there is nothing, they look like game 1 all over again..
Let’s not forgwt Philly had to win their last game in a shootout to even make the playoffs,& od course we know how the Habs got in,.but you would think that with the top teams gone, that the Habs would be flying against the Flyers, not laying down & dying.
are you serious mike? they’re being halaked? not even close… halak made saves he had no business making. I could stop everyone of leightons shots. the habs are pussies and are playing as if the “foot in the crease rule” was still in effect.
O’Byrne could HIT somebody! Imagine that! A Flyers player getting completely crushed against the boards or a solid in your face check crossing the blue line, or the crease of Halak being policed with more authority. MAB is around to shoot the puck on the net in PPs and pretend he’s a defencemen. If you’re small as a D, be fast as hell and have a great stick, MAB isn’t that, nor does he know good positioning.
Gionta’s got 7 goals for us so far, he’s allowed to have a bad game more than MAB is allowed to put forth the facade he’s a 5th-6th defencemen on a proper roster for the entire playoffs. O’Byrne is a piece of a successful plan to more effectively confront the Flyers, by throwing a big body against their forwards. He made a difference in the later half of the Washington series with his prescence that helped change the series around. He won’t be THE difference maker, but he can make contributions that could get things going Montreal’s way.
THANK YOU…someone sees my point, the comparisons by fans, media and pundits were TOO SOON. Make them now and if the team loses, then it hurts all the more.
Shiloh hates Price because in his mind he sucks…Im not getting into a Price/Halak Debate…But how could someone who hates Price so much have such a hardon for Andrei K? You wanna talk about wasted draft pick Shiloh, one only needs to look at 2003 Draft lol so keep yer yap shut with the stupid Price/Gainey shite, its pointless you schmuck! lol
“I went to see a fight the other night…And A hockey game broke out!” ~Rodney Dangerfield~
This is Cam Ward all over again. I wanted to play the Bruins because I didn’t want to face Peter Laviolette. You give him a half-way decent team and they’ll be contenders.
Peeps are blaming Halak because they are stupid and think the goalie has to stop shots AND score goals as well. 0-8 on the PP and somehow thats Halaks fault.
I do like the better forecheck…I also think JM is letting them take more chances…we gotta get someone in the crease…Moen seems like the best candidate since he is immune to pain…
“The ‘System’ will not stop until it owns Lord Stanley’s Cup…All hail the System!”
So glad JM is such a genius in making adjustments between games.
What?
His big adjustment after getting physically dominated in game one is to replace one fourth line 4 minute player with another one? His secret weapon is to put in a player who has not played for a month?
No adjustments on defense or the PK or the PP. No adjustments to the top two lines. No discernible line that can disrupt or hit the Flyers D. Still can’t clear the front of the net. Still no Habs forwards crowding the Flyer net.
Genius?
“Good judgement comes from experience, and experience comes from bad judgement.”
The 1st and 2nd round seem like a lifetime ago. I watched the Habs win the Stanley Cup my 2nd year of following hockey. Will I ever see another Stanely Cup won by the Habs? let alone a goal? Go Habs Go!!!!
Been a Habs fan since I was in 2nd grade and sat behind Patrick Roy at the Aud.
Besides, the results of the 2008 and 2009 playoffs have no bearing on the results of the 2010 playoffs, if they did, we could try to add up the Habs playoff wins since 2005 and say they should have won the Cup…and good point about coming in cold, when Halak lost Game #3 against the Flyers two years ago, the Halak-pushers defended him with the “he came in cold” position.
i am not blaming halak but people who honestly think he is an elite goalie are insane. and comparing him to roy is ridiculous. if pittsburgh didnt hit those 4 posts in whatever game that was we wouldnt be sitting here. he covers the bottom of the net well but I honestly believe and always have that he has been so lucky. his glove is terrible and lets in just awful goals.
this is the team we saw at the end of the year. the real team. washington and and pittsburgh thought they were holier than thou and didnt need to work to win
great save by leighton as all the habs run away to the corners after the shot…. i hope they get swept so we can go back to wanting martin’s head on a platter because he has no clue and this team is made up of absolute pussies
If this was a case of Leighton standing on his head, stoning us,the way Halak stoned the Capitals and Penguins,I’d be worried. But it’s not. Leighton sees every shot, and more often than not, nobody is there for the Habs to pick up a rebound. The Habs have to get in Leighton’s face, crash the net ,and hop on rebounds. If they do this, this career AHL backup will come down to earth and the Habs can truly make a series of this. The Bruins, who were one of the worst scoring teams in the NHL,had this team on the precipice of elimination in overtime of Game 4 of their series…but the Bruins’ injuries were just too much to overcome and they folded. Leighton is NOT a reincarnation of Patrick Roy and Ken Dryden…Habs CAN come back in this series.
Mr. Boone it’s Philadelphia’s defense that should get the credit. Leighton has been there when they needed him, but more of the credit should go to their defense.
look this is the forward unit we saw many times during the reg season…the habs overall have one of the weakest forward groups that can score goals…full of 6-8 goal a season forwards…..for this team to win it has to win or at worst tie the pp vs pk …and unless we score flukey or weak goals on the goalie we do not score more than 1-2 goals a game….sadly the scoring will not get better next year…
I’ve have had enough of MAB… I counted 6 turnovers and 1 shot from the point … not worth it !SK…. ??? seen enough of him …atleast Darche gets his nose dirty.
OB and Darche ..back in .. not much more upside ..but will work hard and give it their all..
Some big time giveaways by Gomez last nite … no surprise there… him and pleks better wake up .. we’re counting on you 2 …
The Habs came out flat last game. They collectively Kovaleved it, even though some guys were pushing. It seemed the jump and energy were missing, and everything was forced. Halak did what Halak does. All season long, he would give half a dozen solid games, and then get shelled. It’s his pattern – he seems to need refocus time to be at his best. He’s a great goalie, but he’ll always be a guy who needs a solid backup. Not to worry.
Tonight’s a new series, and it’ll determine what happens. If the Habs can play as they did in the previous two series, they’ll break down the Phillie D and block the offence. If they don’t, then it’s time to worry. For now, they’re in a series they should not be in. If they can attack with some zip and not look like the puck’s a curling stone, then we’ll have a game to watch.
Pretty much agreed with everyone here. Plekanec and Moore deserve new contracts. Belle is a good insurance policy to have on the farm, a veteran guy who can play good D and move the puck a bit. The others are pretty worthless: Metro is old and can’t last a full season, he can be replaced by a younger player like White or Pacioretty or Desharnais. Mara showed he isn’t needed, and MAB showed he is nothing more than a shot that occasionally helps a PP and occasionally makes it worse (by failing to keep the puck in). With Markov and Subban, there is no need for MAB.
One question? Where are these beautiful outlet passes from MAB that you and JM speak of? All I see is a deer in the headlights look whenever MAB is pressured. This sign of a good Dman ( ie PK Suban and Markov) is that when pressured they just don’t give up the puck or look to their partner to pass to. MAB invariably makes a dumb play or looks to pass to his partner whenever he feels pressured.
“Good judgement comes from experience, and experience comes from bad judgement.”
All of those guys you just mentioned could also win a handul of games in a row which is why they kept getting contracts. They were good subs but not good enough to be top goalies. Boucher helped get Philly into the playoffs and Biron beat us in the playoffs two years ago. Just sayin’.
Using your words, we should be able to win this series hands down seeing that Leighton is a “stiff”. If we don’t, what does that make us?
Leighton’s 2010 playoff record - 4 games/4 GA/3-0/1.12/.959
I also have bo idea why OB isn’t getting a chance. He is exactly the type of player that would fill a role against this team, and MAB could easily play PP only.
Second, if SK is going to play, he needs to play top 2 lines. We need a 6th forward so why not give him a chance. THere is no point in dressing him to play 3-4 minutes, his head will be out of the game.
Third, tonight is a big night to see how JM makes adjustments. This will be a true test of his coaching ability.
No idea, if there’s any time to dress 7 Defencemen it is on the road, you don’t have the luxury of last change to match your 4th line and with our 4th, they barely play anyway so you might as well have the extra body since we basically play 3 forward lines anyway.
I like what i saw in engqvist when i watched him against canada. Very reliable and solid 2 way player, strong in his own end and showed a real willingness to go to the net and battle for rebounds. I could see him in our lineup next season.
I find it hard to understand why JM will not dress OB. It would be different if MAB was burning up the PP and playing well defensively, but he’s not and quite frankly, his contribution has been minimal to non-existent since he returned from his injury. C’mon JM, change it up before it’s too late!
we will drop this one tonight then we’ll finally see OB in game three. MAB isn’t even hitting the net anymore , so what’s his value to the team right now? they are going to take Cammy’s shot away all series but he’s a pretty good passer so if the rest of our fire power could stop fanning on shots i think Cammy’s goals will be replaced with assists which is just as good. also anyone notice briere’s got a bit of a micheal jackson thing going on ; pale skin , dark hair , looks and sounds like a woman. can’t stop him from scoring but making fun of him makes me feel better…….aaah.
Is having Pouliot play 2-3 minutes a game worth not putting a 7th man on the bench instead? This isn’t just about MAB V OB, this is about one player going basically unplayed so why not have OB on as the reserve defencemen at the very least? OB was responsible enough to play regular time against Washington in the latter half of the 1st round against a very powerful offence. This is JM’s bad habit of favouring a rookie over a veteran, regardless of how poorly the veteran is playing and how much the rookie wants to play and make up for his mistakes. The system forgives a veteran making a dozen mistakes a game (Hamrlik nearly giving away Game 7!!!) but if OB had made one turnover, his ass nailed to the bench.
MAB doesn’t have a PP point in how long? He is incapable of keeping the puck in at the point 80% of the time it comes his way and has no physical power to use against the Flyers when they enter the zone. His defensive screwups are more visible and he’s half the size of OB! MAB’s limited use on the PP isn’t worth the ES errors he commits and the fact that the Flyers can run this go over whenever they want, he’s a speedbump to them at best.
OB played awesome the first two rounds. I didn’t see any defensive lapses whatsoever. He banged bodies, was good with the puck and cleared the front of the net. MAB get’s knocked around like a rag-doll out there and frequently gives the puck away. No contest OB should be in the line-up and MAB relegated to PP duty.
MAB hasn’t been effective on the pp in a while , doesn’t even hit the net. OB might make his mistakes but he’s way more solid than MAB. Did i just dream it or wasn’t there a good portion of the season when people were amazed at OB’s progression. i’ve watched most of the games this year and remember OB being pretty impressive.
I would give OB the nod because he doesn’t seem to handle the puck any worse than MAB…He does have the size we need…
This is where puck-moving D-men are invaluable…Flyers will come fast and furious on the forecheck x 2…no time to be in the “valley of indecision” with the puck…good puck distribution or solid puck movement…like that Markov guy does so well….
I am an OB guy…been his camp all year…But MAB does have a friggin canon…but he makes JM have to dye his hair at more regular intervals when he handles the puck…
“The ‘System’ will not stop until it owns Lord Stanley’s Cup…All hail the System!”
Hey Boone…The Habs should get BGL aka “Commercial Boy” to guard Hickey’s “hoopty”…Park it in the same spot and have BGL hide nearby…you would make a fortune on YouTube…
Make sure “Code boy” is “packing” just in case it gets ugly…a lot of these Philly fans plan the post season around parole officer appointments…Just sayin!
“The ‘System’ will not stop until it owns Lord Stanley’s Cup…All hail the System!”
Realistically, O’Byrne is just not very good defensively, and is arguably not a NHL-quality defender. MAB is actually marginally better — but MAB, crucially, has a PP use that O’Byrne doesn’t.
Have to admit, I was hoping Boone would be able to explain it to me. But clearly we’re all in a fog on this one. I am not going to second-guess Martin, not yet at any rate, but I agree that this move is incomprehensible.
We’re losing Sergei- not saying that’s the end of the world- but the way things are going, I’m thinking O’Byrne might be a goner as well. And I don’t get it, because he was coming around nicely, and it’s not like we’ve got that many proven NHLers coming up the pipe from Hamilton- our big prospect was PK, and now, he’s kind of not exactly a prospect, is he- so we need the help on D. O’Byrne has shown a lot of character coming back and working to improve, seems to me he’s done all the right things.
“arguably”… OK, I’ll argue. I think he is. His +1 suggests he is.
MAB and OB are apples and oranges. MAB is horrible- HORRIBLE- on D, his ONE use is as a PP specialist, firing cannons from the point. Dat’s it, dat’s all. OB could be developed into the big reliable stayathome Dman that Gill is- and how great would it be to have two guys who can do that? Ten games, 8pim (so he’s playing disciplined), plus one. He’s young, he can log the minutes, work the PK, sit his ass down during the PP. Seems simple to me, but I’m just a stupid scientist.
Warning – I am a big time Carey Price Fan Still – so yes I know at least half of you hate me.
2nd Warning – I really like Halak as well – so the rest of you can hate me as well.
That being said I am mightily impressed with how he is handling this great run by Halak, just a great demeanor. I still think he is going to be an incredible goalie sooner rather than later, and I also probably think they will trade him some time in the next year now that Halak has seized the job. No matter for now, I can go about missing him if and when he is gone.
Anyhow he plays for my team at the moment, and I am proud of him for his demeanor in the playoffs.
I have no idea what JM has against O’Byrne, the guy has been good and unlike MAB and others he is a future asset we should be developing especially since he is a plus player with size.
Please be really good tonight Halak, we need you. And Cammalleri too.
His +1 while he’s sheltered and facing the bottom of opposing lineups, you mean?
Even in a team that’s such a black hole at puck possession, O’Byrne gets torched. He’s a weak defender, plain and simple. He’s big and he can hit people and he can actually skate, but unfortunately that doesn’t actually equate to defensive ability. Giving him 5-on-5 minutes when the opposing coach his cutting his bench is really asking for trouble. So is giving 5-on-5 minutes to MAB, of course, but the Habs need MAB on the PP more than they need O’B on the PK.
Let’s face it, if Markov was in, both would sit and it wouldn’t even be a debate.
We get maybe 4-5 PP per game. That’s ten minutes MAX on the man advantage. That leaves 50 minutes at even strength or on the PK. You think we should stack our lineup with a guy who is only useful for 1/6 of a game, and minus ten and godawful the rest of the time? Does that seem like a “rational calculation”? And what does that even mean?
The fact that OB sits at +1, 6’4″, RH shot, suggests to me that something is going on that is NOT rational, something personal. Coaches are just as irrational as the rest of us. Maybe he doesn’t like the way OB smells, who knows. All I know is that given the choice between MAB and OB, I’d go with OB- or rather, I’d go with both, and sit MAB except during the PP.
Markov’s injury is a huge blow, no doubt about it. If only we could clone him.
We’ll see from the Habs performance tonight whether the air has been knocked out of them. They’ve been running on pure adrenaline, and that can only take you so far.
Looks to me like PK is taking the big PP shots from the point now … They seem to be keying on MAB. I agree let OB play .. let MAB not play ! Sergei back … you got to be kidding !! must be a ploy by JM to get his brother AK going !!
Blowouts are the least meaningful games there are. Everybody makes such a huge deal of it, but they usually mean nothing more than that one team has been abnormally “opportunistic” (luck, goalie having a bad night, whatever) and the other hasn’t.
Montreal got clobbered 6-2 by the Rangers once this season, then turned around and beat them 6-0 the next game, two weeks later. It’s just not that meaningful.
Games where one team gets dominated for sixty minutes and loses by two goals are scary, the kind of loss Montreal’s had against Pittsburgh and Washington. But a 6-0 loss after Montreal outchanced Philly in the first period? 6 goals on 25 shots? Well, stuff happens.
If you can quote just ONE hockey expert who has said MAB is a better Dman than O’Byrne please give me the link.
I can only go by what I see on the ice. MAB is an accident waiting to happen and avoids any contact, while O’Byrne is a young player who has shown dramatic improvement with increased ice time.
Saying MAB is better defensively renders your entire posting highly dubious.
“Good judgement comes from experience, and experience comes from bad judgement.”
Mathman, I usually agree with you when you put out well reasoned arguments, but this is absurd. O’Byrne is a +1 in the playoffs while getting “sheltered” as you say, although he’s played some PK so he’s obviously trusted to not be a liability defensively. Meanwhile you’ve said MAB is marginally better at defense when he’s a -10 and sheltered WAY more than O’Byrne. The idea that MAB can contribute on the PP is on the surface, a good argument, but he’s been entirely useless these entire playoffs. He has one goal, that was scored on a 4-on-3 PP against Washington, most of the work on his goal was done by Gomez. All he’s done on the PP thus far in the playoffs is whiff on shots, or shoot into shin pads. He’s a useless plug right now, and needs to be kept out of the lineup.
MAB tends to make crazy passing decisions that can look great when he completes them, but are scary and dangerous. He really braces hismelf for big blows that power forwards are trying to lay on him, which takes his focus off of the play. I wouldn’t bury him as much as some do, but he is a minus player.
His shot can open up space on the power play even if he is not scoring when the team is in a good passing rhythm.
Oh I thought PK was a Markov clone with a little more color, a little more puck handling ability, and less passing ability. Have you seen the two of them on the same sheet of ice at the same time?
Andrew, you’re being FAR too nice about MAB on the PP. How about all his lazy attempts to keep the puck in from his point? It’s beyond embarassing sometimes to see that guy just reach with his stick and fail every time. He’s taking momentum away every time the team has to burn 30 seconds to re-establish their zone converage, especially on a team where winning the faceoffs is a serious issue at times.
Your argument doesn’t hold water. MAB isn’t on the shutdown pairing. His -10 is not against Crosby, Malkin, Ovechkin. He is -10 against the other team’s 3rd and 4th liners, while O’Byrne has been +1. After MAB the worst Montreal defenders in +/- are Markov, and Hamrlik both with -3, and drawing tougher assignments.
Gorges and Gill both have a +/- of 0 and they are the ones assigned to shut down the top lines.
I kind of have that “The team is kind of falling apart” feeling. Sergei debatable. Pouliot stinking and confidence shattered. Obyrne not playing. Pleks and AK not scoring since Washington. Metropolit disappearing…
Something I wrote earlier today and I agree with you:
Just some thoughts about our goalie situation. This is not taking sides or starting another endless discussion on who’s the best between Price and Halak. I just wanted to say that I am really happy we have these two guys on our team now. No matter who we put in or who gets pulled we have a chance to compete, not many teams have that kind of luxury.
Now, to comment a bit on Halak and Price:
Halak: The kind of determination and fighting spirit this guy shows is incredible. He is lightning quick and never gives up on the puck. He’s like Hasek when he’s scrabbling to get to the puck. This guy is one big reason why we are where we are right now!
Price: Big talented guy who’s always been a winner. Now that he has had some things going against him the last couple of years you can see that he finds it difficult to handle. But don’t forget that this is a young man maturing on center stage. I have noticed big adjustments in his composure the last couple of months. By the end of the season and through the playoffs he is actually smiling, talking to the guys and being a better teammate than when he first was benched. Look at him now when he is jumping over the boards to greet Halak after a win, and compare it to 6 months ago. You can also look at the penalties he took against the Caps after getting scored on, they where stupid penalties and something you can’t do. Look at his reaction after the Flyers scored on him. Took the puck, a quick movement with his glove and through it hard right down on the ice. THAT is the kind of reaction you want to see! Not happy to get scored on and battling even if the game is out of hand. Also the situation when SK74 didn’t what to practice with the other scratches…GREAT!
My point: I really like both of our goalies, but no one is bigger than the TEAM. I don’t care who of them stays, but I want us to keep the one that can help the team the most.
So if no one can make Halak and Price into one goalie (how awesome would that be) for the next year I really hope we can find a way to keep both for one more year. This time Carey being the challenger and Jaro the main man. That way we can find out who wants it the more!

If OB’s not playing, then theres one thing JM has to do, split up Hamrlik and Spacek. We can’t have MAB and Subban together, its not a surprise they had some of the worst performances this playoffs, they’re both offensive D, one is young and will make mistakes, while the other is just a staight up defensive liability at times. Hamrlik-Subban worked great while Spacek was out so why not go back to that, then have Spacek on his proper left side playing with MAB. This way both MAB and Subban get a veteran defensman to cover their mistakes, which should in turn allow Subban to keep making those offensive moves and not leave MAB alone is situations that instantly lead to goals against, as we saw last game.
The mystery is not so much why O’Byrne isn’t playing, it’s why MAB and Pouliot are. MAB’s team-worst -10, miserable PP production, and defensive-zone ineptitude make him the team’s biggest liability. Pouliot dresses apparently only to satisfy union regulations about the roster size. OB on D and MAB as fourth forward makes much more sense.
Martin doesn’t really get smarter with every ridiculous save Halak makes, it just looks that way on TV. He’s still the same coach he always was.
All of Gainey’s moves in the off-season last year now look brilliant. Except the first one.
Price has really impressed me as a “team” guy. BTW, don’t be surprised if he’s still the goalie the Habs wind up keeping: I’d bet money on it.
I’m ready to have a new favourite player, and it’s Hal Gill.
PK Subban was embarrassed last game, and I think he’ll come roaring back with a great game.
The Flyers aren’t as tough as they used to be. Just as dirty though.
If the refs aren’t going to call goalie interference, the Habs are toast.
Leighton is a fraud. If the Habs tested him at all, he’d fold like paper swan. Luckily for the Flyers, the Habs aren’t sure they want to pay that price.
Last game was the only game so far where the Habs beat themselves, and they did it with emphasis. Hard to win a series if you are willing to throw a game away.
I get a kick out of the OB comments here today. Seems either JM is an idiot or…JM is an idiot. Come on people, maybe there’s another reason why he’s not playing.
Both MAB and OB are major liabilities at even strength. OB looks better doing it, but the reality is that he gets torched too. People see OB being big and hitting people, but he bleeds chances and shots against and regardless of how he looks, how is that good defense?
MAB has PP usefulness. OB has PK usefulness. The Habs need the former more than the latter, so MAB is the natural pick. 5-on-5 both should warm the bench.
If OB plays, the Flyers’ small speedy skilled forwards (notice how Briere, Giroux, and Gagne aren’t big bruisers) will expose him IMO. I don’t want MAB out there either, but he’s more useful than OB.
After tracking Subban’s stats across the AHL all season, there were only two times that Subban was a minus in a game for two games in a row but I doubt that will happen tonight, Subbban tends to immediately rebound after his bad games and come back more dangerous. I said after Game 1 with the Flyers Subban had played his worst game as a Canadien, but it would be his last game like that in these playoffs, he will return strongly tonight, reading as Markov’s replacement in this series, rather than MAB’s taller double.
Here is my thought re. MAB playing instead of O’Byrne. I wonder if it is because MAB move the puck up the ice better than O’Byrne? Maybe he feels that the key is a quick outlet pass, and then use the speed of the Canadiens to gain the zone?
I know we are going to win big tonight. And do you know why? It’s because whenever all the negativity and despair comes out; that is precisely when the Habs pull out a stunning victory. It’s when the word sucks (preceded by the word Habs) appears more than 82,413 times on this site prior to a game. Then, right when you least expect it.
Bill – Leighton has a history of being a streaky goalie who can go on a run for a limited amount of games. His big problem, and the reason he has never been a #1 guy, is his inability to sustain those hot streaks. That could be an important factor in this series. (He has now allowed four goals after four games so far in the playoffs).
Personally I prefer OB to MAB. HOWEVER, there is alot of nonsense in here regarding the issue. MAB was a -3 in both the games that Washington beat us. Markov was a -2 in both those games too. MAB is a Plus 1 in his last 5 and wasnt on the ice for any of Philly goals.
I would absolutely like to see OB on in place of MAB I like his size. HOWEVER what does JM see between the two when we win? IDK but obviously something. If SK has a chance to play then you know there is no presonal feeling involved.
I would like to see SK in the game tonight. He better light himself on fire, as this is his 10th or so chance. Enough is enough. Prove your worth, cause its very very unlikely he will be around next season. AK TOO.
There may be other teams, but only ONE Club De Hockey…
Okay so here’s a question. If you don’t sign Metro, does Laps go back to fourth line centre or do you keep him on the wing and promote one of the Bulldog centre?
Leighton has a history of being a streaky goalie who can go on a run for a limited amount of games.
What are you basing this on? During his NHL career he has managed a +.910 SV% in 44 of 91 games and has never sustained a +.910 SV% in more than 4 games continuously.
You can define him as streaky if you look at his stats in regard to how many games he has registered a sub .910 SV%. He has an 8 game run where he never posted above .910 and 5 runs of 4 games or more without a .910 SV%.
The guy has been a dog at EVERY NHL stage of his career except with Philadelphia, which coincidently has a top 4 of Pronger, Coburn, Carle and Timonen.
The guy is a stiff in the mold of Esche, Cechmanek, Snow, Boucher and Biron.
That description perfectly fits Huet, another one of many goaltenders who lose their No. 1 jobs or never get them because they can’t be good enough, long enough to get their team the crucial wins or to to the Championship.
Pleks and Moore, I like Metro but I think we need to bring up Ryan White from the Dogs anyway and import Engqvist from the Swede league and get him on NA ice so we can build him up, 6’3″ RH shot, 22 years old, could be our Holmstrom.
He’s not playing because he’s the 7th D and was bumped out when Spacek returned from injury. Everyone here know’s that, it’s just some of us think OB would be more usefull against a team like the Flyers.
Imagine you are Daniel Briere or Claude Giroux, both 5’10″ and you’re carrying the puck towards the Montreal blue line, you’re going to chip it in and chase it down, forcing the Canadiens Defence to turn around and try to cover you while your linemates set up for your pass in front of the net. Now what gives you pause about going in to that corner and digging for the puck, a 5’9″ guy who’s known to be the most porous defencemen left in the playoffs by a fair bit, or a 6’5″ defencemen whose only job is to crush you into the boards. OB can crunch their small guys and bump with their big guys as well. MAB can’t even match strength with the guys his own size.
Habs played well, very well. They need to score badly.
And this is all on Gomez again.
Another note, we’re what… 0 for X for the series on the PP? And we’re TERRIBLE on the PK. Whoever’s in charge of special teams needs to wake up, it’s NOT working at all.
Hey JM, a good coach understands the flow of the game and goes with the players who are flying ( AK and Pleks ) and limits the comatose ( Gomez ). What does JM do? Continues to use the Gomez unit as the first unit on the PP and puts his best sniper on his line. MAB IS TERRIBLE!!!
“Good judgement comes from experience, and experience comes from bad judgement.”
The more I see AK46 blowing by everyone with ease makes me dislike him even more. Players that have the skills but don’t bring it every game suck. That goes out to Pouliot also.
Well, that was a fine display of gnat hockey. Lots of motion and activity, but little more than an annoyance to the opposition. MAB was not the right choice this evening, OB was. And, let’s not forget being “Gomered” right off the bat!
Much better period, tough part is you can’t go into intermission and make adjustemnts, we’re playing perfectly. They have 1 scoring chance 1 goal, its all us so far. It seems they’re the ones playing regular season Montreal Canadiens hockey, let the other team dominate 5 on 5 and beat them on special teams while riding a hot goalie. We just have to keep pressing and hope we can get through Leighton, hes hot, no doubt about that, but we can still get a nice greasy one in and then maybe he’ll fall apart.
Pretty decent period by the Habs, but bottom line is you haven’t scored in the series yet. I mean C’mon. They just are not getting to the front of the net. Never a screen, a tip. They did have a rebound on one of the PP. Very nice period by AK46. Best player so far. Cammy is not too far off. He’s almost finding his range. Something to build off of, but it’s time to bury something off all these PPs.
Okay. I am losing my F. mind here. Maybe even more that game 2 vs. WAS. Why?
MAB
Martin
MAB
Non calls
PP (MAB)
Leighton (he is a 4th string goalie and CBC is creaming over him)
Briere (smug little b1tch)
and finally… MABBBBBBBBB!!!!!!! AAAAAAARRRRRRRRRGGGGGGGG!!!!! AAAAAAAA! Sorry to dump on the little guy but coooooomooooon. He was a big help early in the season but FFS. I feel better with Hammr/Spatch on the pp than with PK/MAB (and that’s really saying something considering what PK brings).
I’ll even take Souray back over MAB… both are defensive liabilities and have cannons, but at least Souray doesn’t wuss out under physical play. MAB can’t even make consistent outlet passes because he’s too scared of getting hit. If we had Markov back we wouldn’t even have to worry about MAB playing (or would we?). Aiy yia yia…
SPOT ON COMMENT!!! Power Play .. all shots from the point. A small team cant rely on that style of pp cause there aint no big bodies harassing the goalie.
But still let’s hope to get 1 goal and see what happens. I feel 1 goal before they score will change whole SERIES.
Buy Gomez out? So instead of having a 2-way centre who can contribute for the next 4 seasons at a high cost of 7.3 million/year you would rather pay 3.65 million for NOTHING over the next 8 season?
Flyer passes in front of net beating 2 Habs, Other Flyer shoots from 2 feet. Great save, Puck drops, aforementioned 2 Flyers box out Habs Dmen and bang away from blue paint and score. Not even the greatest of Halak efforts can save the day. The Habs haven’t even bloody scored in the series yet! They don’t even deserve to be saved.
Nah – it’s Gainey’s fault he drafted a goalie #5 overall. Carey has been magnificent these past two or three months – a real sparkplug in practice. He’s good backup material.
Risking a sore subject here, but Halak doesn’t have the MOJO. He could keep that puck, and normally in these playoffs he would find a way to get it away fro the net or in his glove.
IM STILL THINKING WE ARE WINNING THIS ONE.
There may be other teams, but only ONE Club De Hockey…
And that, ladies and germs, is why you don’t burn a Number 5-overall pick on a *&^%# goaltender!! A 4th stringer like Leighton can get hot and steal games. As was written in Monday’s Gazette and at Sportsnet.ca, this was Gainey’s Achilles heel. He blew our best pick in a quarter century and then nearly destroyed the team by refusing to play our best goalie. Thank God he walked away – if indeed it was his choice.
i almost wish habs lost to pittsburgh in game 7. at least we would have expected that and pittsburgh would be lighting this trash goalie up instaed of shooting everything right at him…. it’s disgraceful that a team makes it this far then can’t score on an ahl goalie

If we lose this game we will win both at the bell centre mark my words. This flyer team is not that good we have got too stay positive and believe in this team. Hopefullly the habs tie it up in the 3rd with two goals of any kind and force these d-bags to overtime.
How about putting together a team that is getting pushed around like children? Gomez and Gionta have been totally dominated. It doesn’t even look like the Flyers are trying that hard. It seems very easy for them.
Yup… he’s an idiot. Quoting Sportsnet.ca is dumb, these guys are the worst.. they are no better than you an me, just people who know little to nothing. As for the Gazette, well you mean Todd… Shiloh you’re like him.. a tool puke!
To be fair the predicted 5th pick was Gilbert Brule, and that hasn’t excatly turned out well. If anything Gainey made the right move, because the player we have is worth MUCH more on the open market.
Todd was kissing Gainey’s feet and worshipping Carey Price just like everyone else when the kid first came in, Todd’s just blowing off the collective steam of every self-appointed GM in Montreal and proving he’s a two-faced twit once again. He went on a rant that was more poorly constructed than that of some of the biggest Gainey haters around here.
Leighton isn’t getting hot, we’re making him look good. Looking at the 2005 draft class, it wasn’t exactly a banner year, only three true impact players thus far are Crosby, Ryan and Kopitar. Unlike Andrei, who was pretty much a blown pick when you run him up against the guy drafted right after him or 5 other major impact players who have hit the NHL.
Not that pleased about the refs, Peel and O’halloran, althoug McCreary was pretty awful last game, and if it actually made a difference we’d be cursing him for things like that bogus call on Pyatt. That being said, the biggest problem with Peel is that he is like Chris Lee and doesn’t really seem to know the rules, making him largely inconsistent. Maybe with the Flyers being the more aggressive team that will work in our favor.
I know that the focus is on the game tonight, but if plekky doesn’t step up here in the next couple of games (i think they can still win with him being average) what do you think about signing him for next year??
Hickey and Stubbs have reffered to a hip injury that happened before the Olympic break. He hasn’t had any time off or treatment, it could be catching up with him.
MAB over OB is the clearest indication that the Habs management are content with only two more pay days at the Bell Centre. If you ask me the Habs made it this far not because if JM’s coaching but despite it.
How do you know OB isn’t injured? How do you know there isn’t something else going on that only management knows? How can you critisize openly and make a judgment when you have only a small fraction of the information available?
How do you know you wouldn’t make the same decision as him, if you had all the information he does?
Coaches dont deserve as much credit as we think. Only one person can make everybody look good and thats the goaltender. If a player needs to be taught something then he shouldnt be a pro.
Moen was just having words with Carcillo, would love to know what he was saying, something along the lines of “bring it dirtbag, I’d love to pound the snot out of you”
Leighton and the Flyers look like Halak and the Habs of the 1st and 2nd round with all those shot-blocks. They’re doing a good job against them. Keep it up boys! Let’s tie this series!
You are suggesting that MAB is even deserving of mention in the same breath as Markov. In pure numbers a MINUS 10…MINUS 3….PLUS 1….ONE OF THESE DOES NOT BELONG! CAN YOU GUESS?
Next irrelevant and obtuse question?
“Good judgement comes from experience, and experience comes from bad judgement.”
No, but again, as long as we have Forward who are playing less than 4 minutes a game why not put in the press box and dress a 7th Defencemen? Use MAB for the PP and very limited 5-on-5 time, that’s been my argument all day and besides, when’s the last time MAB really did something for us on the PP? The -10 really doesn’t help against his 1 PP goal.
Fair enough….but this must be pointed out: if a team is supposed to win by scoring goals, then a team also loses by allowing goals to be scored on them…you do realize that there are TWO facets to the game right? SCORING FOR AND SCORING AGAINST…suffice to say, neither are holding their end of the bargain.
If a team cannot win without scoring, a team cannot lose if they are not scored upon.
You are so off, it’s not even funny. The 3rd goal was bad, but the team has been handled like babies for 2 straight games now. They deserve nothing. Even if Halak was God and could have miraculously stopped all the goals and scored a few, I wouldn’t want him to. The team deserves to be embarrassed for their weak play.
The team hasn’t scored or actually even come very close to scoring in 2 games and you’re talking about goals against. This team would still be playing game 1, in OT right now if Halak was God and didn’t let in a goal.
How is that in idiotic statement? If a team gets zero goals against…do they lose the game? Since when did 0-0 become a loss? Or is the concept of zero beyond your comprehension?
I hate to say it…but 2010 Halak vs. the Flyers in the playoffs is starting to look like 2008 Price vs. the Flyers in the playoffs…and do not say that what Halak was done in the previous two series excuses him…if the comparisons to Dryden and Roy that the pundits and Halakaholics are making are to be validated, he needs to continue winning and not give up softies like that third one, winning two rounds and having the deserved accolades mean nothing if you do not win the Cup.
Correct me if I am wrong, but would you consider the second goal a soft one as well? He had the puck cradled in his chest and somehow it got out; was is whacked loose?
Are trying to tell me that the Habs are finally outshooting the opposition with some very good chances…the goalie stopped them all…yeah, you need goals, but it also helps (in general) that the goalie not allow softies like that 3rd one.
Now…be an adult and stop hiding behind the anonymity of the Internet.
This is the internet. We’re not at your house. If you say something stupid, and that was really stupid, then you deserve to hear it said. I owe you that atleast as a fellow human being.
I have the most unbelievable theory that the Habs risked a loss in Game 1, if only the purpose is to understand Flyers’ style of play. I just realized how the Habs aren’t trying enough to go fight for the puck and skated with no passion.
Just hope that if my theory’s true, then tonight’s game will sure see most sparks. Like Game 1 of the Penguins series, the Habs let them win 6-3 (with all four PP goals), but they know their styles, the players’ strengths, goaltending, coach’s choices, etc. And look what happened.
I’m sure to win tonight’s game, if they know how to take down the Flyers. May not be pretty but I rather have a dirty win than a clean loss.
I’ve been to a Habs-Flyers game at Wachovia Center and found no hate. No emotion at all to be frank. Of course, that was a regular season game but I still walked away not too impressed. Ducks-Capitals at Washington two days later had much better atmosphere and much more engaging fans in the stands. (And this was a few years before Ovechkin era.)
Does your wife come from Philly my friend. How did you get this information? You could be right ,I just don’t know the city. But you sure can paint a vivid picture and you have taught me a new word or two.
What I remember most in 2008 was hitting multiple posts on their end and getting weird deflections on ours. Nobody would say we lost a best-of-seven due to luck, but it was there. In the end, Carbo noted only “it also takes some luck to win the Stanley Cup”.
We were lucky in the first 2 rounds. They (Wash or Pitt) hit posts at critical times and fanned on shots when Jaro was down. At times in the 1st 2 series, I really thought the ghosts finally moved from the Forum. You CANNOT claim that there is no measure of luck in winning 10 straight OT victories. One bad bounce and it’s over. In 1993, we got the bounces.
Ok, it’s all luck. Philly beat us in 5 games because of luck. That excuse is the last refuge for the desperate. Bounces are a part of things, but a small part. Philly beat the Habs in 2008 because they were the better team that series. Price was horrible, Biron was very solid and Montreal’s offense was relegated to the perimeter and Montreal’s defense was pounded into turnovers. Pretty much a mirror image of what happened in game 1. Philly didn’t get the bounces on Sunday, they just beat the crap out of Montreal in every area, and Montreal didn’t/couldn’t respond.
So I will put my fragile ego on the line and ask this in response to a reply below. Triple X is saying the following:
Boudreau was making fun of JM and was called out for it by many journalists. I guess you missed that?
If he cares about winning he would not play a MINUS 10 MAB for almost 18 minutes. Did he learn NOTHING from the last two series?
I did miss it if in fact he was being sarcastic. I think Brucie was being gracious and honest. To me JM is chosig players that can play his system. While I do like O’byrne better than MAB, he is the coach that got us here. The players are completely playing his style, and it is working as we are in the Conf. Finals.
What do you guys think of Brucie’s statement that he was outcoached by the smartest coach in the game. Or something like that.
Im not calling XXX out so please dont bring in the personal attacks. Im curious about his comments. Apparently journalist called him out on the comment, but I didnt see or hear any of that.
Obviously this is in regards to tonights game and to see how our team is prepared vs the Flyers.
There may be other teams, but only ONE Club De Hockey…
“What do you guys think of Brucie’s statement that he was outcoached by
the smartest coach in the game. Or something like that.”
If he wasn’t sarcastic, then it’s a nice way to cover his butt and deny his opponent bulletin board material, but Martin has been carried to the conference final by his goaltender, his players, and a serious dose of luck. His “defensive” “system” basically involves letting the other guys have the puck, letting the other guys bombard the net, and giving up tons of quality scoring chances.
If he was making fun of Martin, well, it wasn’t very classy, but maybe he was on to something really.

I will panic if we go down 3-0, but then Filthy didn’t panic in their series against Boston did they?
United we stand ‘n’ all that.
Damn, I hate being a good father.

Loving what we’ve done in the playoffs and where we are but either all of us on HIO are missing something (esp with O’B) or…..

that much?
Your dedication to your kid should be commended. Not all parents out there would make the same sacrifice, some would pawn their kid off on their spouse or another player’s parent. As for going to hell… if the Habs play like they did last game we will all feel like we’re already there…

If Sergei is in the lineup tonight, I bet he plays between 1 and 3 minutes.
Big tactical error not playing O’Byrne, he was an integral part of the first two series wins. To not play him is wrong IMHO.

GO HABS GO.

Five ways to beat Philly:

Halak 7-1-1 after being pulled, and the BOYS are hungry now! GO HABS GO!
2008:
Yeah, someone stole Hartnell’s hairbrush

This is a HUGE game for Les Boys tonight.
So can they rebound tonight?

umm….Ozzy Osbourne…….Three Days Grace……ugg….get it out! OUT!!!
YeeeEEAAAAHHHH!!!
“We didn’t give up and we are not giving up.” – Jaroslav Halak
- I shall always remember Captain Koivu.

LOL, ABBA!
Great now Ace of Base is in my head…
Forget deja vu, it’s voulez vous and that’s what it’s going to take.
If the Habs want it, they can certainly prove it tonight!
It’s true! i’ve seen it first hand!
the habs just have to keep their cool.

We will need to want it more than them…
Habs hockey = Smart hockey we work as a team, and we win as a team. we play 5 man defence – not just 2.
it seems to me that the way to get quality shots on the flyers is by doing the following:
1) chip the puck deep into their zone on the rush
2) use our speed to pressure the flyers defence
3) battle down low, win battles, retrieve the puck
4) move the puck to the scoring areas
The flyers will not let you beat them on the rush. they take away their blue line and force the opposition to chip and chase.
If we use our speed, and we battle, their defence is over rated and vulnerable.
Especially Pronger is vulnerable to speed pressure in retrieving loose pucks; and he is the core of their defence.
Guys like Moen, Lapierre, Big Tits, must win races to loose pucks, and battles along the low boards and in the corners.
I just read that. Kovy is amazing at puck handling but CROSBY? Yeah….
“You just watch him holding on to the puck,” Melnyk said after the first playoff round (on Kovalev). “You can’t get to this guy. In many ways, he reminds me of, but with much more finesse, of Sidney Crosby.”
What is Eugene Melnyk smoking?

Richards – HAHA.
I think playing Price in the 3rd is a good idea. At least it will give you someone to blame!
But, like I said in my previous post, I’m not JM.
during the offseason PG needs to offer Kovalchuk the moon!
it’s really not habs fault that ther’s no talent on this team. it’s Gainey’s fault!
how on earth do you trade for only smurfs and not big bodies????
boy do I hate Gainey. big big players. NO MORE SMURFS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I want at least 3 goal scorers added, no less!
it’s PATHETIC THAT YOU CAN’T SCORE 1 F’ING GOAL ON AN AHL GOALIE!
they’re laughing at us! this team has ZERO talent! ZERO!
Gomez absolutely SUCKS in this series!!!
Wow, they’re still thinking about killing the penalty? Not even a glimmer of offensive thinking on this PK.
Pleks & Gomez….. where are you ?????
Suicide watch in MTL tonight, or just an opportunity for the Gainey haters to crawl out of the woodwork and go ‘ha-ha, we’re losing, I was right all along!’

The Bruins scored by going to the net and getting dirty. Few of the goals the Habs scored in the playoffs have been scored this way.
Either the coach or the players themselves have to commit to sacrifice their bodies and go to the net.
But JM has to do his job and put the BEST roster possible on the ice and the BEST line combination to score.

Yep… history revisionism (both long and short term) sucks.

Hey Mike,
Nice.
Funny story, with the Halaking thing. I said to my class the other day, “The habs got shalacked the other
night” and then told them that if they don’t know what it means, to go look it up. Went home, told my wife, and she said, “What does it mean on the Internet?”
So, I went to Urban dictionary dot com there and typed in Shalacking… Check out # 2.
http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=shalacking
I still have a job, but…
Cheers to hoping that this doesn’t happen to us again tomorrow night or ever!
Da Bears in Da NFL, Da Habs for all else!

That would be “sand in the Vaseline” bad.

The team is 0-8 on the powerplay and hasn’t scored a goal in TWO games!! How has that anything to do with the goalie?????
You get a good shot high glove side on ANY goalie and 9 times out of ten, it’ll go in.
Halak has done all he can. You take out the President’s Trophy winners and the defending Stanley Cup Champions in 7 games each – there won’t be much left in the tank.
Scroll down and read my long post… I’m gonna be so bold to say as his point is similar to mine.
Boone: The Book on a goalie is to shoot where he’s got the least ability to cover, really?
Henrik Lundqvist is notorious for having glove-side issues, WSH ran him out in 2009 on that weakness.

http://habsandhockey.blogspot.com/
Besides the fact that if we were only down one goal and could pull Halak in the final minute?
Go read the dictionary, look up MORALE, and if you still don’t get it, go to the bank, take out a few bucks and buy a f.ing clue.
What time are the Habs due to ‘arrive ‘ in Philly.?
This is embarassing……..this is Flyers, are our guys just spent,or do we have a great 3rd,and turn it into a series.
Go Habs Go ………………soon
Quit blaming Halak dammit, Yes the third goal sucked, but we can’t even score!! Without Halak it is another 6-0 game.
Sounds easy, doesn’t it?

even Boston is better than us. we laughed at them, but guess what? they won 3 games and scored goals. can you say that about us? NO!
Halak = Roy…
Having a Milan Lucic on the roster would be handy right about now.

Thats right Habs players, slink off the ice nice and quiet. You guys were terrible tonight.
I could go for a stiff cup of Larry Robinson right now.
Sooo many comments available here.
the team is 0-8 on the powerplay and hasn’t scored a goal in two games and yet some of the MORONS here are blaming the goalie. What a joke.
heres the solution. put sk on gomez line.
My advice: Have Gomez center the Bros K. Oh and tell him to stop taking penalties.
heres the solution. put sk on gomez line.

I didn’t know Halak could sing as well as Jonathan Roy
if this game doesn’t go to OT, that will be 14 straight with no OT… that’s a record since 2008…
(i just made that up)
This isn’t done until we see what they can with a little Bell Centre backing to recharge and inspire, Hate tonight but I’m sticking with this.

Are we dead yet?
Wow. The team overachieves for 2 rounds (not to mention a season) and the knifes are already out after 2 games?
We have no business being here and we’re missing our best player.
Can they play better? Sure. But I’m proud of what this team has accomplished.
Crisse!
You have to dance with the girl who brung ya. Playing Price right now helps no one, agreed.
Whoa is us. Oy oy oy.
______________________________________ Gionta for Captain.
What a shameful disgrace. 9-0. Blanked twice by a minor league goalie. Brutal, disgusting. I hope when it is late in the third in game 3 and they have yet to score the fans at the Bell give it to them.
Gainey would slap you for saying such a stupid remark.
Note to Ian: I ain’t changing that thing!
Last time I checked you have to score a goal to win an nhl hockey game. Changing the goalie will yield zero goals.
Shiloh really is the biggest conundrum for me when it comes to the player drafting argument, thinks Price was a wasted pick, but defends Andrei to the death when 2 of the 3 top players from the 2005 draft (Crosby, Ryan, Kopitar) two of them went 1st and 2nd overall are the only ones to be known impact players in the NHL, when you compare Andrei against 6, or even 7 guys if you want to stretch to 2nd round and note Shea Weber who are known impact players and all but Carter were Olympians for USA and Canada.

cant wait to see these bums in orange get embarassed in the cup final
A double doughnut in the land of the hero… man, I get indigestion just thinking about it.
It would help if they could jump on a rebound to two because there sure have been a bunch of them off this guy. Nobody has any intent to go anywhere near the front of the net when it matters. And the penalties are just killing us. JM better get The System back on track. The System holds the key!
FEEL THE PRIDE!
Unfortunately I don’t think there were any of those available at free agent time.
the habs were 23rd in scoring in the reg season….this team has minimal forwards who score regularly…next year this team may even have less scoring during reg season if plecks,ak46 leave…if not for some late goals and flukey/bad goaltending goals we could have been shut out in 3 other games in the playoffs
Alright guys, balls to the wall for 20 minutes, beat them in the third and take it home all tied up!!
“Without the strength of the past, the team may face a choice – to win, or to be French-Canadian?” — Ken Dryden
With the lack of heart Plekanec has shown in these 2 games, I’d sign him for $4 million, but it would be a 10 year deal. Hamilton needs some offense.
FEEL THE PRIDE!
could well be a short series if no greasy goals are scored by HABS..sucks..flyers just to strong…how many shots from outside..christ.
i never said this has anything to do with the goalie… im just saying he has been very very very lucky…. and his luck has run out
0-8 on the powerplay is due to the fact that philly’s d is too big and habs aren’t strong enough to push to the front of the net, and the fact that the PP is completely one-dimensional and relies completely on a big shot from the point that never comes because an opposing house league coach can develp a system to stop that
Anyone else you want to blame…?
Because that’s really useful, you know.
—Hope Springs Eternal—
Listen, if you ever, and I mean EVER, say anything remotely close to reality concerning the Habs, I’ll take it back.
No one in front of Philly net,No one can clear the front of net.
…THIS is NOT over …a few bright adjustments by JM and We CAN turn-this-around
…BUT they will have to be Bright Adjustments …NOT a dim-bulb adjustment like o’ Byrne out and Sergei in head-scratcher
Habitant means PASSIONATE HOCKEY
http://www.nationalpost.com/news/story.html?id=423049
Yes! God Damn!
STROKE THE WOOD!
I really hope Chicago, or San Jose wins atleast, I couldnt handle it if Philly won.
as good as halak has been. he is been discovered. shoot up high =goal. put a big body in tere for a game and make the flyers think twice. the team also has to get leighton moving more. no more perimeter bs
GO HABVS.
take em back to philly tied!!! GO HABSSSSS>>>> PLAY PRICE
You’re completely right. But still, I’d love to see those Flyers fans being sent home crying :]
Bring back Zone de Match!
Laviolette is a very good coach…
In Guy Boucher I trust.
I think my sig has significance here….
Goalies in Montreal have two roles, netminder and scapegoat.
MAB is bait. They forecheck hard on him with two skaters and we counter-punch by rushing up ice, 4 on 3. MAB trails, blasts it home. At least, that’s on paper.
Agreed.
Besides, if Price plays and loses. He will be blamed for the whole series… He is already to blame for game #1 for playing 30mins!!!
“I am guilty of using elipses…”
put moen up with gomez and gionta.??
We were NOT terrible tonight. COME ON HOME BOYS. Only so much we can do… It isn’t working for us. We aren’t done yet. Be we are close.
STILL IT HAS BEEN A HELL OF A RUN. OUR BOYS DESERVE BETTER THAN ALL THIS HATRED.
Remeber we are still playing while 26 other teams aren’t…………
There may be other teams, but only ONE Club De Hockey…
Your sig is the most poignant thing about this whole debate.
“I am guilty of using elipses…”
How come the Habs get stymied by F***N’ Flyer no-name goalies in the playoffs?
Here’s my thought: move PK Subban to the first line wing spot, and let him off the chain. Tell him to go out and score goals. PK has the rushing ability of Gomez, with the shot of Bergeron, and the determination of Moen and Metro.
High glove side, boys!

Um…whether or not a team scores, when a goalie allows three or four goals in a game, it would be hard for any team to win.
“I am guilty of using elipses…”
Put SK with his brother and Pleks and put Cammi with Gomez and Gionta. Play those two lines and PK Suban like crazy, if we lose this game and get shut out it is OVER.
“Good judgement comes from experience, and experience comes from bad judgement.”
The counter to that is that the goalie should not allow three or four goals if you want to win an NHL hockey game.
“I am guilty of using elipses…”
The bulk of the play is in the Flyers zone. This is a positive thing. Leighton will start letting in goals.
Instead of getting frustrated, look for positives. They CAN do this.

GO HABS GO!
And thats why he has 0 credibiility (like most of us here as well) but if any human can have a Negative credibility score…It would be Shiloh…

Pleks and the K brothers would be first on my list outa town for prospects. Useless players when it matters. Sick of watching them spin their wheels in mud. Bye!
Need to lose 4.

DO NOT turn this into a Price-Pusher vs. Halak-Pusher thing…it isn’t…changing goalies IS the logical thing to do and the majority of coaches would do it…but given the debate that has raged all season in Montreal, this logic does not apply.
“I am guilty of using elipses…”
Looks like Leighton might get another SHUTOUT.
“Hey Richard, two minutes for looking so good!”
That would be amazing.
You may be right, but I have a feeling there were a few around in the last 6 years. Through the draft, trades or free agency, if you thought it was a worthwhile asset to have. If you didn’t put much stock in that type of player well…..
I will leave that to you. I blame JM!
“Good judgement comes from experience, and experience comes from bad judgement.”
at least I won money as the odds makers were still giving montreal some respect, that quite clearly was not deserved…. if philly keeps getting odds like this i’m going to be rich!
Halak sucked tonight along with most of his teammates. But when Halak gives up on plays, that’s when you worry.
Yeah, same people who called for Halak last year against the Bruins and 2 years ago again Philly… FAIL! Halak is clearly not the answer!
against Pitt and Wash- IT WAS A FLUKE! FLUKE!
this team is pure S***!
fire our piece of S coach! MAB playing! what a Fing MORON!

Whatever.
I apologize. Spacek was totally blameless for getting knocked on his ass behind the net.
Leightons giant horseshoe is going to fall out of his arse when he steps on the Bell Centre ice. It’s embarassing that we were shutout by an AHL backup again. I think his shutout streak will end within the first five of game three
You don’t post when they win, you’re all over this place when they’re losing.

I wish MAB was invisible…AK was on fire to start the game and JM should have double shifted him…Pleks? fine who replaces him? Moore????

I think the Habs need to steal the “One Goal” motto from the Blackhawks
Well it looks like the Habs should know what they’ll need to add to the line-up for next season to support our mighty mites.
Players that can crash the net that don’t have stone hands! Looks like the Cinderella run is coming to an end ladies and gentlemen.

Michael F. Leighton?? HUH?????? I don’t think so.
How about the Canadiens F. Forwords?
Plekanec is a coward. Hit the guy on the ice and then turtle./
I know it’s clearly Price’s fault!
at the latter salary yes… you need a number 1 center that can actually do something… he thinks he’s a little girl, and he is
Back to back shutouts, will Leighton be shaky in MTL?

Philly is so ready to be taken.
I agree. The team doesn’t deserve this type of abuse. They’ve gone further than anyone expected. And it’s not over yet, folks.

GO HABS GO !!!!
Speed!
how about this……………….. Scott F. Gomez?
You’re an idiot
This is the team Gainey built. Can’t blame the players, they’ve made miracles up to this point.
Yep, they’re “tankadelic!”
Jeeeez!!! Terrible goal…
Thanks Bob…..
“Good judgement comes from experience, and experience comes from bad judgement.”
The clock has struck midnight and this team has turned into a pumpkin.
- I Hab Faith
Wow, 4 of 9 goals have come from Philadelphia PP.
That means the PK unit is 56% against the Flyers so far..
Thought I’d be happy because they made it through two rounds, but I’m finding this hard to take.
get a life.
If the Habs don’t get a goal in the FIRST MINUTE OF GAME 3, things will get ugly at the Bell. Especially if Philly scores first again.
We’ll know soon enough. Or will it be Tyler Seguin? Nevertheless we’ll be seeing a lot of one of those two in a few years in a Boston uniform.
He needs to get a full back for the power play. Enough passing. Time to run one into the end zone.
michael leighton wants to buy a house and i hope we all find where it is so i can burn it the f down
Let’s make it official: F. Michael Leighton
- I shall always remember Captain Koivu.
http://habsandhockey.blogspot.com/
This team lacks a franchise center. Habs need to start from there.
Gomez is no good either, but whos gonna take him? I was trying to be realistic.
Someone needs to spring for a “shorty”….can’t stand to Leighton get another shut-out
“The ‘System’ will not stop until it owns Lord Stanley’s Cup…All hail the System!”
they will, when they are swept by chicago
ummm when a team doesnt score the amount of goals against means $hit.
How about useless Gomez at 7.3 million? Do you keep him? Another one of Gainey’s bright moves.
It’s times like this I’m glad I don’t work with any Flyers fans
don’t worry. the pain will end Saturday, then we can used to our usual mediocre team again.
but I think we should just forfeit the next 2 games to avoid the misery and pain.
I think im gonna efin puke, Not like this please, score a freakin goal already
“It’s not an obsession, It’s a way of life..”
This team is just too streaky and inconsistent. I still think that Habs will make this go to game 7.
…You know ? …I like the way these PhilthyBoyz play hockey …Balls-Of-Steel-Canadian-Hockey …NOT Neanderthal like the ol’ Broad Street Bullies

I would love to see Lafleur, Richard, Beliveau on the ice and make a fool out of Leighton.
Been a Habs fan since I was in 2nd grade and sat behind Patrick Roy at the Aud.
Can someone in the Montreal media PLEASE ask JM why OB was not playing?
The Shaq Attack
- I Hab Faith
3-0.. night everyone
It’s not my job to know everything about drafting. That’s Timmins job and he’s pretty bloody mediocre at it.
Go ahead and attack me if you don’t like my opinions. It’s no skin off my ass.
Who could have foreseen the downfall of The System and the Habs massive de-gelling?
Cmon Habs – COME-BACK! COME-BACK!
Maybe so, but these comments are posted in a highly emotional state.
Do you think the fans deserve better than the half-assed, incompetent, uncompetitive and unemotional play we’ve seen for 120 minutes?
OK…who stole the Montreal Canadiens??? This group of jackasses who insist on flipping the puck from 30 feet at the goaltenders belly is not the team I saw beat Washington and Pittsburgh…
and out come the haters…You just knew they sucked, you must be so happy to be proven right!!!!!!
———————————-
Fate leads the willing, and drags along the reluctant.
truth is, habs overachieved in the 2 series vs Wash and Pitt. this is the real habs, the team that finished with 88 points, no better.
they don’t have much talent, basically only 2 goal scorers, that’s it. they were very lucky against Pitt and Wash, because those teams aren’t physical. habs never match up well vs physical teams and never scored goals by going to the net. habs don’t have the right players to play a grinding in your face, go to the net style. habs wre built for the regular season only.
Are you listen Timmons?
you’re fired!
Relax fellas, its only gonna take one, then its ours
“It’s not an obsession, It’s a way of life..”
Agree. Time for Price. Time to push back for God’s sake. Played like scared children tonight. Wish Martin was better at lighting a fire under his troops. Seems incapable of that
The good news is that Desharnais looks like he’s ready for the NHL next year.
Our D is very tired….
Phily is doing what they want. We might win 1 at home on adreneline, but it should be quick. One way or another Philly will get smoked by Chicago or SJ. It won’t be funny.
In Guy Boucher I trust.
Gainey was asked on July 1, 2009 what he was looking for. Bob…”we need to get bigger”. What?
“Good judgement comes from experience, and experience comes from bad judgement.”
Leighton SHUTOUT!!!!!!!!!
According to you it’s Halaks fault. Braindead.
ZERO positive. Wow.
Cya in 4 habs. There’s no way unless Martin tears them new holes……how he let this go on for three periods is beyond me. It’s not like Philly was playing wiley – they just didn’t try.
What a complete embarrasment.
…T.A.N.K. ? …or TRADE Price & Halak & both Ks for # 1 ?
Habitant means PASSIONATE HOCKEY
http://www.nationalpost.com/news/story.html?id=423049
So, are they in Halak’s head? Big question you have to answer before next game.
Not Jaro’s fault. No offense. So it doesn’t matter if we lose 1-0 or 3-0.
WOW.
These guys continue to defy the odds. They won when they were supposed to lie down and play dead and, now, they’re expected to win and they get shut out, in back to back games, by a third string goalie. Excellent!
Wow, that was ugly

Bad goal, bad night…
Games 3 & 4 better feature a different Canadiens team than the one that’s playing in PHI.

It’s his thing. It’s an endearing quality. If you don’t like his comments then ignore them.
FEEL THE PRIDE!
Do we have a goal yet?
I see Sergei made a huge difference…not.
Bad goal. But Halak has done more than enough to excuse it.
“I am guilty of using elipses…”
He should have had that((((
That’s all folks.
All we could hope for now is two home wins…Its still not over….
“I went to see a fight the other night…And A hockey game broke out!” ~Rodney Dangerfield~
love how suddenly all the habs fan — but not hockey fans suddenly appear out of nowhere and claim “streakiness” or jump off the “thx gainey” wagon
That goal doesn’t mean anything. This game was over at 1-0.
A few observations about game 2:
1. MAB is killing the Habs with his constant giveaways and poor reads from the point;
Good call!
Wait till the Flyers’ fans start the Na, Na, Na chant!
Not Jaro’s fault. No offense. So it doesn’t matter if we lose 1-0 or 3-0.
BRIGHT and JM is an oxymoron with the emphasis on moron.
“Good judgement comes from experience, and experience comes from bad judgement.”
Montreal is ready to lie down. If you are Laviolette you go for the kil and drill our D for the next 9 minutes…..
They have the guys to do it…
In Guy Boucher I trust.
Richard Gere is your avatar. I find it hard to take you seriously.
And it’s clear that Halak has hit the wall. I love him for getting us this far but he is no Roy, Dryden, Plante, Vezina.
Been a Habs fan since I was in 2nd grade and sat behind Patrick Roy at the Aud.
I drafted Leino really high this season in my fantasy pool because I was convinced he was going to win the Calder…..massive bust in Detroit, now killing my hopes and dreams in Philly
This is like watching 2008 all over again. How f-ing depressing. COME ON!!!!!!!!!!!!
OK, now Im gonna puke again
“It’s not an obsession, It’s a way of life..”
“Good judgement comes from experience, and experience comes from bad judgement.”
sure does matter… that is F#$#$#^ ridiculous to let that crap in..i know everyone loves halak but his luck has run out
The team is cursed.
I was wrong about winning tonight. Pull Halak, he has been soft for the last 2 games. I think our dream run is over as our biggest weapon is flat.
IT WAS FUN. We have done well. But me thinks the Mojo is gone…
There may be other teams, but only ONE Club De Hockey…
We had the hockey gods on our side. Then arshole fans in montreal decided to tear apart the city because we won a series….gods are now angry at us and we are to be smited.
I’d be surprised if we even got a goal in this one….karma sucks, way to go dumbasses.
No other city in the world acts this way, what a bad sports town Montreal is.
”You miss 100% of the shots you never take.” – Wayne Gretzky
Ouch. May have been Halak’s worst goal against of the year.
Wow…hard to watch it go down like this…you don’t get this far very often…this is a missed opportunity…
“The ‘System’ will not stop until it owns Lord Stanley’s Cup…All hail the System!”
I dont think anyone would mind Boone
______________________________________ Gionta for Captain.
i can’t find one post that BLAMES halak for that…. everyone is clearly saying that he played like shi@ and he did…. the whole team sucked including him
Screw blaming Halak. Teams don’t win that don’t score goals.
How many times have we shot high on Leighton?? All of our shots seem to be aimed for the five hole or otherwise low.
hablifting, you now have concrete evidence you’re not from Toronto, because only a leafs fan would think Gomez could be unloaded for anything of value.
Good observation Mike.
FEEL THE PRIDE!
We’re being Leightoned by Halak!
The System has suffered a setback, nothing more. However you would be well advised to book that hall again. I’ll tell Showey to start the potato salad and I’ll pick up the ham tomorrow.
FEEL THE PRIDE!
Will Leighton beat us in 4 straight shutouts? I think I’ll go insane if it happends. But Philly does a great job forcing our little guys to the outside, I don’t see how we’ll ever score at this point.
Thanks TripleX…THAT is what I was trying to point out…I never once blamed Halak (except for goal #3)…but this 2010 situation IS much worse…
“I am guilty of using elipses…”
F*** I HATE FILTHYDELPHIA!
1993. Habs down 2-0 in the series to the Nordiques.
We all know what happened that year.
Don’t lose faith.
To be fair, Halak doesn’t have the supporting cast those goaltenders had when they won the cup.
You mean Japanese????
Exactly. i said it last game, I said it tonight, and many times throughout the year. IF they have a good first and don’t score they are shutout.
Can’t be worse then blowing a 3-0 series lead and a 3-0 lead in the game 7.
Atleast we’re not Boston fans….
FU Habs
FU Gomez
FU JM
FU MAB
No heart
Ooh Aah Habs on the war path
They don’t deserve better. Losing 2 games is one thing, getting shutout back to back and having our own song mockingly chanted against us 2 games in a row, and having the whole hockey world laughing at how easy it is for a Flyers team that’s not even going 100%? With that kind of effort, they deserve the critisism.
go Boone!! you deserve a cold one!!
Genesee cream ale and pigs in a blanket. I can hardly wait!
Not a knock in any way on Halak but Price on Thursday please!
“I gotta feeling…that tonight’s gonna be a good night!“
I can’t believe Gomez was in the box for the 1st goal both games. Wow. 8 million dollars.
Full Breezer 4 Life
It will be easy and completely wrong to blame Halak for this game.
They should regroup now, rethink their offence and help their goalkeeper with some shots. It could have been 0-3 moments before, but he stopped Leino. Where was the defence then?
Bring back Zone de Match!
I was done with him before the season opener, I don’t know why management wasn’t either
can we at least hurt somebody?
No I will not ignore his ignorant posts. He bashed this team left and right ALL THE TIME, but when they do something good he acts like he has been behind them the whole time and pretends to celebrate. He is a joke and an embarassment to real Habs fans worldwide!!

Timo is the biggest joke & fraud in the history of hockey “fans”
What’s the record for shut-out’s in a playoff series? I think Leighton will beat it.
it would be 12-0
Have to start fouling Pronger and make him shoot free throws.
Halak’s run was not luck. He seems mentally tired. Remember this is the first time he has played so many games in one season. could be a factor.
at least on Saturday we don’t have to hear philly fans at the Bell Centre.
Team doesn’t even seem interested in scoring, if they don’t believe Halak is invincible in nets…

The bell is gonna be on fire and i fearlessly predict that the habs will show up and will get a few goals against Leighton.
according to the posters here it’s Halaks fault we havent scored. Hmmm?
The Flyers aren’t good enough to get that many shots, even if we gave it to them. We are losing to a shit team here.

Ok, it’s official, I hate Glen Healy. He needs a punch in the f’ing mouth.
And JM continues to reward him with ice time and first unit on the PP. Way to send a message to the rest of the players especially the younger ones.
“Good judgement comes from experience, and experience comes from bad judgement.”
If we lose this series, it’s all on Halak. He has raised the expectations of him and frankly has now let us down.
I am being sarcastic. Not Halak’s fault. Now the team needs to support him by scoring goals.
Well, have you seen him lead a rush yet?
are you drunk? are you not reading these posts? do you just see halaks name in a post and assume we are blaming halak? not once does he blame halak for anything. he is just stating that halak is not the second coming of roy like some people were saying after the last 2 series
“I am guilty of using elipses…”
Agreed. I f’n hate the Bruins for this! The Flyers are f’n goons and Philly is a sh!t hole town with even worse people.
Been a Habs fan since I was in 2nd grade and sat behind Patrick Roy at the Aud.
according to the posters here it’s Halaks fault we havent scored. Hmmm?
To each his own. Knock yourself out man.
FEEL THE PRIDE!

Good post and well said.
Wow.
I gave them till this game but the writing is on the wall.

Rofl. You are such a sad, pathetic troll. Not a single worthwhile comment ever commited to keyboard. Completely and utterly useless.
Hey FORESKIN….Shut yer hole!
When we beat the Pens I was excited to see THAT Habs team play at least 4 more games. Now, with THIS Habs team, I wish it was over.
yeah, what do they call it at the SAQ? Rapport qualité-prix?
I’m surprised no one is blaming Price for all this
- I Hab Faith
Sounds good to me.
Thia pp HAS to score. Come on boys get the shutout buster!
That’s what’s killing me! The flyers aren’t even playing well! All montreal had to be was decent. This is so frustrating.
And they get Seguin…..
In Guy Boucher I trust.
I knew it as soon as they came back against the Bruins. They are on such a high.
I think Leighton is gonna get a shutout..
And I think we gotta see Price Thursday. Halak was carrying these guys and once he fell, everyone came down on top of him.
There may be other teams, but only ONE Club De Hockey…
Trailing by 2 in the series… we have them exactly where we want them!

why are peeps here blaming Halak?
Only blame him if the team lost their chance to win.
When the team only scores a grand total of 0 goals in 2 games.
Blaming your goaltender is like bringing stupidity to the next level.
BTW, I like how Halak and Price communicate a lot – good to see that goalie ‘partner’ bond.
Don’t want to be overly dramatic, but if they don’t score here, they might as well kiss this series good-bye. Can’t go two games without a goal.
I actually saw an nhl show featuring Scott Hartnell and he actually lives in a penthouse condo in downtown Philadelphia. It’s ballin however i do agree that he looks like the caveman from the Geico commercials.
noone is trying… even our best player, Halak is giving up… what a shame!
All the more reason for them to push back.
The Habs have to understand that there is a difference between working harder and working smarter.
Last night, they worked harder than they did in Game 1, but not smarter and it was the same result. No one going to the net, no one getting to loose pucks or picking up rebounds, no on to screen the goalie or deflect a puck.
Ugly, and if they don’t wake up this could all be over soon:

Goalies in Montreal have two roles, netminder and scapegoat.
“Canadiens are competing, but they’re being Halaked.”
I must be watching a different series. Can someone tell me exactly which Canadiens player is competing?
that was a bs call.
I can’t watch MAB play D
anymore. I just can’t.
Please Mr. Boone ask JM why why why???

Bring back Zone de Match!
It’s a 2,000 pound gorilla in the room.
“I am guilty of using elipses…”
We’re outplaying them, no way around it, 2 reasons they’re winning, Leighton and the special teams. Their PK has completely shut down our PP and their PP just scores at will. Its a complete dominance in that category.
Then theres this Leighton fella, when we shoot high he’s on his feet, taking away all the shooting room. But then when we shoot low, he’s on his knees and using quick feet. The guy is on FIRE, plain and simple, theres no easy way to beat him right now. Only thing left to do is crash the net Philly style and get ugly goals. Can a small team do that? I don’t know.

JM really is completely clueless.
“Good judgement comes from experience, and experience comes from bad judgement.”
Strangely enough, I don’t feel like we’re out of it. Yet. We’ve played a good game. But we need to SCORE!
I think they’ll come back and play harder. They actually played pretty well but didn’t cash in on their chances. They’ll need to stop hitting Leighton in the chest with just about every shot.
They just don’t seem to be playing with any urgency. Seen this movie before.
I agree, Play the Kostitsyns together.
On the 4th line centered by Metropolit for 3 minutes TOI.
Has a team ever lost four straight and not scored a single goal? That would be worse than what the Bruins went through.
Then I guess that means he is not a number 1 goalie then
No way.. Halak gets the next game…
Although this happens every spring, somehow I wasn’t expecting it to happen THIS spring.

“The good thing about drinking during games is if they lose, you’re too drunk to care during and too hungover to care after.” – J.T.
GOAL! PLEASE!!!! GEEEZ!!!!!
Put the Bros K with Pleks.
Play Cammi with Gio and Gomer
Moen, Moore and Laps
Pouliot, Darche and Metro
Another game where we won most of the battles but can’t score. Leighton sucks man, he is so damn lucky. No one on our team has a great shot tonight, all of them right at Leighton. Go Highside for F.s sakes!!
LOL
Did you not read what I wrote? I said OTHERS are blaming Halak and that the criticisms thrown at Price for losing to the Flyers are now being lobbed at Halak…I only blame Halak for the 3rd goal….how many times would like me to say it:
THESE ARE HALAK’S PLAYOFFS TO WIN OR LOSE – PRICE SHOULD NOT GET GAME #3
“I am guilty of using elipses…”
“It’s not like we’re facing Brodeur or Leighton.”
When will JM sit MAB….my God, how many more turnovers does he have to make?
Would be nice if our players and coaches actually bought into that.
or sergei
How is 2-0 down to PHI worse than 3-1 to WSH? Now, I must admit that even I thought it was over at 3-1 down to WSH. Still, have some faith. And saying “this is over” is not really contributing much to the discussion.
Go cheer for the Leafs.
Habs are too streaky and so are its players. Inconsistency is a problem.
“Peeps” are blaming Halak for not keeping them in the game and letting weak goals in.
Last comment for the night for me: If you think the Philly fans gave them a tough time singing their own lame-ass Olé song back to them, how do you think our fans will act if they turn in a third game like that one?
Maybe Hammer can get a pass to MAB this PP. PK has not been able to get a clean pass over there all night.
Why wont MAB take the slap shot???
There may be other teams, but only ONE Club De Hockey…
I never criticized him….don’t you regulars EVER read what is written?
And when he wins two rounds by himself…people are going to expect him to win the other two rounds by himself and will be bitterly disappointed if he does not.
“I am guilty of using elipses…”

Panic panic panic. Don’t worry guys. It was one game. If I’ve learned anything in these playoffs its that we shouldn’t get too high or too low after just ONE GAME. If we lose tonight the same way, well then I might panic.
God damn Leighton, his confidence isn’t dropping…..
Special teams? Horsesh..t! What game was he watching? The Habs were doing so well 5 on 5? Change the channel, Jacques!
We are totally getting a taste of our own medicine. We’re playing
well, but they are shutting us down like we did to the Caps and the

Need a garbage goal, not going to score from far out.
Game 1: We ran slowly into a cement wall.
Game 2: Were running faster into a cement wall.
I thought JM ‘the mastermind’ was going to adjust?
Of course we know the answer. And the answer is NO. We have no Clowe, Byfuglyn, Hartnell, etc etc etc..
In Guy Boucher I trust.
Yes, this game is all Halaks fault. Are you serious?
Hey, was it over when the Germans bombed Pearl Harbor? Nothing’s over!
What goes around comes around. We did this to two teams and now it is being done to us. Outplay your opponent and get stoned by an unknown goalie.
Why are they getting out of the way???
Price should not get Game #3…these are Halak’s playoffs to win or lose.
“I am guilty of using elipses…”
Gionta moved out of Leighton’s way so he could see!!!!!

So I guess french cuss words are out now too??? T@barnac!
“The ‘System’ will not stop until it owns Lord Stanley’s Cup…All hail the System!”
Gomez and Gio not even close to screening the goalie, just standing off to the side to let Leighton see Pk’s 55 footer. Pathetic.
Even if it remains 0-0 how are the Habs going to win?
No offensive pressure. flyers have a LOT more offensive depth than the Habs.
merdre …guess not
No traffic in front of the net. They are making Leighton look like Patrick Roy.
Didn’t Leighton play for us at some point in the past?
The reverse is true, too. When the team plays bad, the goalie is exposed.
By the way, Price came in cold, underworked, and surrendered 2 goals in 30 minutes. Halak? 4 in 30 minutes. You can’t play the “Price was crap” blame game.

Come on Habs Get Going………..

are you serious mike? they’re being halaked? not even close… halak made saves he had no business making. I could stop everyone of leightons shots. the habs are pussies and are playing as if the “foot in the crease rule” was still in effect.
I hope the opposing fans will mock “God Bless America” then. Hell, I will sing, too.
Bring back Zone de Match!
- I shall always remember Captain Koivu.

What I saw? I saw Gionta get a two-minute penalty for getting an elbow in the head.
I looked at it in slo-mo on the PVR. That WAS a penalty, just not to the Habs.
If you are going to slash someone. BREAK THEIR ANKLE. What is wrong with these guys? Don’t they ever get angry?
THANK YOU…someone sees my point, the comparisons by fans, media and pundits were TOO SOON. Make them now and if the team loses, then it hurts all the more.

How is it working? I can count on one hand the good scoring chances weve had in these 2 games.
This is Cam Ward all over again. I wanted to play the Bruins because I didn’t want to face Peter Laviolette. You give him a half-way decent team and they’ll be contenders.
What a turn around by alot of the so called fans.
I remember when we wernt supposed to beat Washington .
We see the weekness we cant compete with big teams.
We have a coach that thinks MAB is Doug Harvey
Peeps are blaming Halak because they are stupid and think the goalie has to stop shots AND score goals as well. 0-8 on the PP and somehow thats Halaks fault.
Halak needs a break.

We’ve gone from a sad state of affairs to outright embarrassment…
So glad JM is such a genius in making adjustments between games.
What?
His big adjustment after getting physically dominated in game one is to replace one fourth line 4 minute player with another one? His secret weapon is to put in a player who has not played for a month?
No adjustments on defense or the PK or the PP. No adjustments to the top two lines. No discernible line that can disrupt or hit the Flyers D. Still can’t clear the front of the net. Still no Habs forwards crowding the Flyer net.
Genius?

Been a Habs fan since I was in 2nd grade and sat behind Patrick Roy at the Aud.
I am speechless. The effort has been there, but for some reason there is no finish.

This could all turn around so easily. Stop taking dumb-ass penalties and start going after rebounds.
How many more years is Gomez under contract for?
No, he needs to see more shots.
Ah…

Fire Gainey, Trade Price, Demote Martin,…………sorry but it seemed to work in the regular season…….lol
look this is the forward unit we saw many times during the reg season…the habs overall have one of the weakest forward groups that can score goals…full of 6-8 goal a season forwards…..for this team to win it has to win or at worst tie the pp vs pk …and unless we score flukey or weak goals on the goalie we do not score more than 1-2 goals a game….sadly the scoring will not get better next year…
Keep at ‘em, guys! We’ll get them!

Your point please.
I’ve have had enough of MAB… I counted 6 turnovers and 1 shot from the point … not worth it !SK…. ??? seen enough of him …atleast Darche gets his nose dirty.
OB and Darche ..back in .. not much more upside ..but will work hard and give it their all..
Some big time giveaways by Gomez last nite … no surprise there… him and pleks better wake up .. we’re counting on you 2 …
4 goals on 13 shots will tend to flatten you.
I don’t think we’ve won a playoff series against the Flyers since Larry Robinson left, should we unretire him as well?

A reasonable explanation based on more than “O’B – BIG BOY: BIG BOY GOOD. ME SMART. JM NOT SMART. GAINEY SUCKS. UGHH.” — are you crazy?
Get outta here!
Bill — what was that first move? Gomez?
Pretty much agreed with everyone here. Plekanec and Moore deserve new contracts. Belle is a good insurance policy to have on the farm, a veteran guy who can play good D and move the puck a bit. The others are pretty worthless: Metro is old and can’t last a full season, he can be replaced by a younger player like White or Pacioretty or Desharnais. Mara showed he isn’t needed, and MAB showed he is nothing more than a shot that occasionally helps a PP and occasionally makes it worse (by failing to keep the puck in). With Markov and Subban, there is no need for MAB.
Martin.
Funny how only the posts that are in agreement of your opinions are sensible and any dissenters are illogical and so much drivel.
JM GOOD…..GAINEY VERY GOOD…..MAB VERY VERY GOOD…UGHHHHH
Crazy?….no just observant and objective
“Good judgement comes from experience, and experience comes from bad judgement.”
Love the “Hanz and Franz” reference
I am still holding onto my tank card. That always gets them going.
Here’s hoping the Habs pump up their game and stop playing like little girly men.
“Hey Richard, two minutes for looking so good!”
That’s a respect-worthy come-back. I’ll take my lumps ;–)
Definitely bizarro Markov than!
Regarding O’Byrne: If not now then when?
The torch be yours to hold it high!
Thanks. I congratulate you on having a sense of self deprecation, an admirable character trait. LOL
“Good judgement comes from experience, and experience comes from bad judgement.”
Can someone please ask JM why OB is not in the lineup?
No idea, if there’s any time to dress 7 Defencemen it is on the road, you don’t have the luxury of last change to match your 4th line and with our 4th, they barely play anyway so you might as well have the extra body since we basically play 3 forward lines anyway.

http://habsandhockey.blogspot.com/
To give Bergeron as many minutes as possible so he can giveaway the puck in front of Halak every single game.
Ha!
______________________________________ Gionta for Captain.
Do you think JM doesn’t want to win? If O’B was defensively reliable he’d be in the lineup for sure.
The fact that O’B sits means that his defensive screw-ups outweigh his size assets.
MAB is effective on the PP & O’B isn’t.
Seems like a rational calculation to me….
I hope J.M.’s adjustments has been the ones that are made inside of a players heads. That should be enough… I trust our team, they have what it takes…
http://media.turku.fi/kamera1.html
we will drop this one tonight then we’ll finally see OB in game three.
- I shall always remember Captain Koivu.
http://habsandhockey.blogspot.com/
The Obyne/MAB controversy…Hmmm….
MAB is MINUS 10 and O’Byrne is PLUS 1! MAB the offensive juggernaut on the PP according to you has the grand total of ONE goal in the playoffs! Duh?
Rational? Did you say RATIONAL?
“Good judgement comes from experience, and experience comes from bad judgement.”
There is just something so wrong about letting three lines of Flyers frolic around!
Realistically, O’Byrne is just not very good defensively, and is arguably not a NHL-quality defender. MAB is actually marginally better — but MAB, crucially, has a PP use that O’Byrne doesn’t.
O’Byrne in the doghouse.
I just don’t get it. I feel bad for the big lug.
Nonsense.
Thats my Obyrne arguement too, and SK. Develop your own talent OVER UFA’s.
Watta ya smokin Hartnell?
If you can quote just ONE hockey expert who has said MAB is a better Dman than O’Byrne please give me the link.
I can only go by what I see on the ice. MAB is an accident waiting to happen and avoids any contact, while O’Byrne is a young player who has shown dramatic improvement with increased ice time.
Saying MAB is better defensively renders your entire posting highly dubious.
“Good judgement comes from experience, and experience comes from bad judgement.”
We need to take the lead in this game, which means we have to score a damn goal.
There is no way anyone can hate you for being a fan of a Habs’ player…
http://media.turku.fi/kamera1.html
I hope Hickey has found a safer place to park his car. That car may not last this series.
I like O’Bryrne’s defense better.
The new NHL commercials… What if Mike Cammalleri…

-Gordie Howe
Oh I thought PK was a Markov clone with a little more color, a little more puck handling ability, and less passing ability. Have you seen the two of them on the same sheet of ice at the same time?
Double.
- I shall always remember Captain Koivu.
http://habsandhockey.blogspot.com/
I fear we’re in for a short series.
How I would LOVE to be wrong.

Full Breezer 4 Life
I get a kick out of the OB comments here today. Seems either JM is an idiot or…JM is an idiot. Come on people, maybe there’s another reason why he’s not playing.
FEEL THE PRIDE!
I said after Game 1 with the Flyers Subban had played his worst game as a Canadien, but it would be his last game like that in these playoffs, he will return strongly tonight, reading as Markov’s replacement in this series, rather than MAB’s taller double.

http://habsandhockey.blogspot.com/
Here is my thought re. MAB playing instead of O’Byrne. I wonder if it is because MAB move the puck up the ice better than O’Byrne? Maybe he feels that the key is a quick outlet pass, and then use the speed of the Canadiens to gain the zone?
Perhaps O’Byrne is not 100% healthy? If so, it is consistent that they say nothing about nagging injuries if they don’t have to.
Hear me now, believe me later…
I know we are going to win big tonight. And do you know why? It’s because whenever all the negativity and despair comes out; that is precisely when the Habs pull out a stunning victory. It’s when the word sucks (preceded by the word Habs) appears more than 82,413 times on this site prior to a game. Then, right when you least expect it.
BAM!
We silence the critics once again.
“Hey Richard, two minutes for looking so good!”
Correct me if I’m wrong, but weren’t PK’s first 2 games in the NHL against Philly…didn’t the Habs lose them both?
Who do we resign next season — (here are our UFAs):
Pleks
Metro
Moore
Darche
Mara
MAB
Belle
Sanford
Hey, who the heck do you think you are? Comin’ in here and using logic and all sorts of other voodoo to come up with alternate theories. Get lost
FEEL THE PRIDE!
Pleks and Moore. Mara is a long shot depending on how the dominoes fall.
Yep, I believe they are now 0-3 vs. Philly with him in the lineup (2 blowouts) and 2-0 without.
Bench PK, play OB!
Pleks and Moore
Subban also shoots on the other side.
Are we gonna thank JM for putting SK47 on the ice tonight?? Maybe….this team is full of surprises..
………………………………………………………………..
YES HABS CAN!!
That description perfectly fits Huet, another one of many goaltenders who lose their No. 1 jobs or never get them because they can’t be good enough, long enough to get their team the crucial wins or to to the Championship.
- I shall always remember Captain Koivu.
http://habsandhockey.blogspot.com/
Pleks and Moore, I like Metro but I think we need to bring up Ryan White from the Dogs anyway and import Engqvist from the Swede league and get him on NA ice so we can build him up, 6’3″ RH shot, 22 years old, could be our Holmstrom.
- I shall always remember Captain Koivu.
http://habsandhockey.blogspot.com/
He’s not playing because he’s the 7th D and was bumped out when Spacek returned from injury. Everyone here know’s that, it’s just some of us think OB would be more usefull against a team like the Flyers.
Habs hockey = Smart hockey we work as a team, and we win as a team. we play 5 man defence – not just 2.
Price has really impressed me as a “team” guy. BTW, don’t be surprised if he’s still the goalie the Habs wind up keeping: I’d bet money on it.
can you get the Gm job in Tampa, please?
Another too many men penalty? We at 40 yet?
i hate gomez, and not just his contract
reminds me of Ralph Backstrom from the 60′s. he would make end to end rushes, but then always lose the puck and do nothing in the opposing zone.
someone again please remind me why we’re playing this junior B player 7.3 mil?
oh yes, to miss open nets, miss breakaways, and take undisciplined penalties. makes sense.
buy him out please!
I’m going start playing the MAB drinking game
Special teams are killing us, we can’t let this go on
Exactly. Thats the way I’m looking at it, plus he can clear guy’s away from the net in scrums and block shot’s, MAB is useless in his own end.
agreed but OB has not been great defensively these playoffs.
We scored zero goals last game.
Can OB put the puck in the net?
Last thing I say about OB before gametime:
- I shall always remember Captain Koivu.
http://habsandhockey.blogspot.com/
If our guys are going to be that far apart from each other on the PP, they need to make harder passes because Philly is catching up to all of em.
No more power plays please… this is painful to watch.

Hey JM, a good coach understands the flow of the game and goes with the players who are flying ( AK and Pleks ) and limits the comatose ( Gomez ). What does JM do? Continues to use the Gomez unit as the first unit on the PP and puts his best sniper on his line. MAB IS TERRIBLE!!!

man, get mab out of there. he is terrible. terrible control. that first blind pass on the pp says it all. the guy has the iq of a guppy.
man, get mab out of there. he is terrible. terrible control. that first blind pass on the pp says it all. the guy has the iq of a guppy.
OK so the FLyers have the book on 41. Go High. Number two, What the Frak was Bergeron doing? Number three Get in FRONT OF THE NET….
Okay. I am losing my F. mind here. Maybe even more that game 2 vs. WAS. Why?
MAB
Martin
MAB
Non calls
PP (MAB)
Leighton (he is a 4th string goalie and CBC is creaming over him)
Briere (smug little b1tch)
and finally… MABBBBBBBBB!!!!!!! AAAAAAARRRRRRRRRGGGGGGGG!!!!! AAAAAAAA! Sorry to dump on the little guy but coooooomooooon. He was a big help early in the season but FFS. I feel better with Hammr/Spatch on the pp than with PK/MAB (and that’s really saying something considering what PK brings).
Don really has lost it if thinks that dutz can sing our anthem well, she screwed it up numerous times
This is depressing. We all know what happens when we outshoot our opponent by a wide margin in the first period.
OK Leighton, time to burst your bubble — Get ready, we’re winning this period!
More like the series, baby!
Heals is a bitter man and a perfect idiot.
That’s a good post. I like!
I see your point and I agree on some levels but why can’t you throw ak46 a bone tonight and say your happy he had a great period??
SPOT ON COMMENT!!! Power Play .. all shots from the point. A small team cant rely on that style of pp cause there aint no big bodies harassing the goalie.
But still let’s hope to get 1 goal and see what happens. I feel 1 goal before they score will change whole SERIES.
Hard to disagree with you. He’s gotta do something different. If he had dressed Obryne he couda used subban up front a bit.
I am so f’ng mad that Obryne is outta line up. No f’ing sense. And why dress sk and not use him more.
wearing a jersey?
If you start chanting “KATE SMITH SUCKS!!” I’ll help with your hospital bills!!
have fun, man. I think we’re in for a good one!!!
“I’ll take potent potables for 500, Alex” JB
Well, it’s raining tonight, so wear a water-proof jacket. Three uses.
1) It stops the rain
2) After a win, it covers up the jersey and gets you safely to your car
3) It repels beer
/\\ike
GO HABS GO!
I will be at the game tonight. Hopefully the Habs can score an early goal and silence the crowd……
Be careful! Hopefully you’re not going in there by yourself.
Buy Gomez out? So instead of having a 2-way centre who can contribute for the next 4 seasons at a high cost of 7.3 million/year you would rather pay 3.65 million for NOTHING over the next 8 season?
all 4 of them won’t be returning next year anyways.
and why would you resign a player who plays like a little girl in the playoffs ALWAYS!!!!!
made a mistake, Gomez the garbage, has a contract. so maybe we can find a sucker as stupid as Gainey to take him, otherwise BUY HIM OUT!!!!!!!!!
Where’s Bugs when we need him?
True…but it ain’t happening man. Nobody in that room has that capability.
FEEL THE PRIDE!
So Pleks gets five years at $10 million maybe?
Why did he wait SO LONG? SHOOT
The fact that we’re getting killed by Gagne and Brier rabbit is just salt in the wound.
just complete indecision from cammy… he just stood there for a second and had no idea what to do.. he’s in their head
They’re making Leighton (WHO???) look like Patrick Roy.
Can’t score on a 4th stringer. Sad.
Habs always playing down to garbage and up to the elite teams. Makes for a ton of gray hairs.
Brutal. The boys gotta score on Leighton on those opportunities. This is ludicrous.
So people can say the “F” word but I can’t use a term to describe your butt. You know where you can go moderators.
We need a guy who gives that questionnable hit. Sorry but we need an Avery type player. Phily has at least 6..
In Guy Boucher I trust.
If we had a f#cking enforcer at least we could drop the gloves and get us back in it…tired of hearing @sshole Flyer fans do our chant…someone step up!
“The ‘System’ will not stop until it owns Lord Stanley’s Cup…All hail the System!”
Cammy owned the high glove there but didn’t go there.
Need to man up and run Leighton. You want to win. Run him now!
We have an enforcer. He’s out protecting seals!
What a stupid, selfish and lazy penalty by Gionta.
We need a goal!! We have to be more aggressive along the boards and in front of both nets.
Oy, oy, oy…
F*** we NEED TO SCORE!
Was that second goal kicked in?
i almost wish habs lost to pittsburgh in game 7. at least we would have expected that and pittsburgh would be lighting this trash goalie up instaed of shooting everything right at him…. it’s disgraceful that a team makes it this far then can’t score on an ahl goalie
They should be embarassed for not scoring in almost 2 games. complete cameleon team
Remember Chelios on Propp ?
In Guy Boucher I trust.
Your have got to be kidding dude. Ummmmm…..this team has yet to score a single goal in this series?
”Good judgement comes from experience, and experience comes from bad judgement.”
always an a**hole eh?
I guess now we know how Pens and Caps fans felt playing the Habs eh?
Outshooting, mostly outplaying, and converting nothing. Facing an extremely opportunistic team and a goalie sprinkled with pixie dust.
They gave it their all, in those 14 games. There is nothing left in the tank.
In Guy Boucher I trust.
need some garbage goals other wise..yikes.
Does MAB ever suck…thank god we have 2 in mtl.
Moen is the closest thing we have…just pisses me off…we need to get Shawn Thornton…he can skate and he isn’t a liability…
“The ‘System’ will not stop until it owns Lord Stanley’s Cup…All hail the System!”
If we lose this game we will win both at the bell centre mark my words. This flyer team is not that good we have got too stay positive and believe in this team. Hopefullly the habs tie it up in the 3rd with two goals of any kind and force these d-bags to overtime.
We’re really missing Markov at this point…we’re playing pretty well north-south, but we haven’t got those surprises Markov sends diagonal.
Much better effort tonite, but we’re not getting much help offensively from the blueline.
Moen is the closest thing we have…just pisses me off…we need to get Shawn Thornton…he can skate and he isn’t a liability…
“The ‘System’ will not stop until it owns Lord Stanley’s Cup…All hail the System!”
lol ur an idiot…Its price’s fault were losing in Game 2 in th eastern conference finals
“I went to see a fight the other night…And A hockey game broke out!” ~Rodney Dangerfield~
Have you tried the seal made from soy,it’s laroqucious….
He would have picked Pouliot if he hadn’t picked Price.

… The refs for tonite’s tilt are Dan O’Halloran and Tim Peel.
He’s not the player he was in January!
“I’ll take potent potables for 500, Alex” JB
Hickey and Stubbs have reffered to a hip injury that happened before the Olympic break. He hasn’t had any time off or treatment, it could be catching up with him.
MAB over OB is the clearest indication that the Habs management are content with only two more pay days at the Bell Centre. If you ask me the Habs made it this far not because if JM’s coaching but despite it.
Exactly! Genius my ***!
ps AS A HABS FAN I HOPE HE PROVES US BOTH WRONG!
“Good judgement comes from experience, and experience comes from bad judgement.”
No one was asking you.
Good!
how habs ever won is beyond me.
bad news. they’re all amurfs.
I dont speak much french but I can only assume that catastrophe in French is spelled bergeron. Yeah we sure need him on the pp.
Hey Jim Vinny (the Ninny) – it’s all Halak’s fault.
habs can’t beat an AHL goalie. shows the kind of offence we have.
good news, we have people going in front of the net
“I went to see a fight the other night…And A hockey game broke out!” ~Rodney Dangerfield~
of course not but he didn’t look great on the first goal. Gill is more to blame there though…
Anyone else see that brutal high stuck Pleks got in the face?
Stop trashing Halak, he’s got us this far. Like to see Price do that, or you for that matter.
CBC just showed it. Hurt.
Gomez has been absolutely dreadful.
Gomez has got to wake up. Playing terrible.
nice rush by AK
Shot are 14-3, and we’re losing. Oh so sad.
AK46 – yay. Gomez – nay.
“Flyers have scored 11 unanswered goals, going back to Game 7 against Boston”
Holy Crap!! Thats nut’s!
Nice rush P.K. I like…I like!
WTF is Gomez doing, Lets Efin Go. Get your head in the efin game
“It’s not an obsession, It’s a way of life..”
Jaro needed that glove save.
I like how we’re playing, very aggressive, taking shots. We’ll pull this one out.
gomez got away with one
What is it about playing on the road in the playoffs that makes Gomez just have giant brainfarts?

Boone: Not the best series of Gomez’s career.
How the flyers beat anyone is beyond me.
last 10 minutes has proven to habs they can play with these guys.
now we know how pits & wash felt …..
Pleks and AK are going to win this for us
Moen was just having words with Carcillo, would love to know what he was saying, something along the lines of “bring it dirtbag, I’d love to pound the snot out of you”
Okay guys. Time for us to score a garbage goal. A nice greasy one.
“Hey Richard, two minutes for looking so good!”
I don’t get it… Flyers have ZERO neutral zone prowess and aren’t that good in our zone when we are on our game.
We have to really pressure them in their zone and make their D skate.
Leighton and the Flyers look like Halak and the Habs of the 1st and 2nd round with all those shot-blocks. They’re doing a good job against them. Keep it up boys! Let’s tie this series!
Did SK get taken down when he didn’t have the puck at the red line?
Last 10 minutes have proven that Philly can still score on Halak… Where as MTL still can’t get past Leighton.
in 2008 we dominated the flyers in every game and hit 3-4 posts a game as well.
we still managed to score 3-4 goals a game in that series also.
the problem was Biron being a mosnter and Price letting everything in
——————
“I like what I’m seeing right now,” assessed Markov. “We’re not perfect, but we’re trying to be.”
Game 1: Montreal wins 4-3, Game 2: lose 4-2, Game 3: lose 3-2, Game 4: Lose 4-2, Game 5: Lose 6-4
Montreal only went above 2 twice in 5 games actually, revisionist history on the 2008 playoffs is getting irritating.

Hey Mikhail…
Off topic, but seems like You’re winning us at World Championships…
http://media.turku.fi/kamera1.html
What? O’Bryne is a plus 1 and MAB is minus 10! MAB has the grand total of ONE more goal than O’Byrne!
Ummmm…next question?
“Good judgement comes from experience, and experience comes from bad judgement.”
Markov is a -3 and O’Byrne a +1. Both have the same number of goals. Next question?
You are suggesting that MAB is even deserving of mention in the same breath as Markov. In pure numbers a MINUS 10…MINUS 3….PLUS 1….ONE OF THESE DOES NOT BELONG! CAN YOU GUESS?
Next irrelevant and obtuse question?
“Good judgement comes from experience, and experience comes from bad judgement.”
I did not even mention Bergeron in my post. I was simply showing where your logic is inconsistent since stats obviously do not tell the whole story.
- I shall always remember Captain Koivu.

“I am guilty of using elipses…”
“I am guilty of using elipses…”
But they would not be losing, correct?
“I am guilty of using elipses…”
If a team cannot win without scoring, a team cannot lose if they are not scored upon. that is the most idiotic statement of the year.
“I am guilty of using elipses…”
Let me educate you moron. If you don’t score a SINGLE F’ING GOAL, you don’t win. Simple enough?
Are trying to tell me that the Habs are finally outshooting the opposition with some very good chances…the goalie stopped them all…yeah, you need goals, but it also helps (in general) that the goalie not allow softies like that 3rd one.
Now…be an adult and stop hiding behind the anonymity of the Internet.
“I am guilty of using elipses…”
Wish the Habs luck tonight!
You make ugly sound so beautiful. Nice job jdub!
“Hey Richard, two minutes for looking so good!”
Wow!….Well written…thanks for that…could also be they are just @ssholes
“The ‘System’ will not stop until it owns Lord Stanley’s Cup…All hail the System!”
And critics and reporters thought we – the Habs fans – are crazy…. Thanks for telling the worst!

Philly fans booed and threw snowballs at santa clause.
______________________________________ Gionta for Captain.
In 2008, Philly got the bounces.
In 2010, history will be made.
Habs, you suck!
…how’s that for a reverse jinx?
