Liveblog: Winning streak stops at 2

Returning to the scene of his playoff glory, Jaroslav Halak had a very quiet night at the Bell Centre.
In notching his second shutout of the season, Halak made only 19 saves …only a few of which were remotely difficult.

UPDATE: Patrick V. Hickey is day-to-day with an upper body injury. I’ll be writing for the dead-trees edition of The Gazette, which means a terse and pithy live blog that stops early in the third period. I’m counting on the Commentariat to soldier on.

    Kenzie420….I’m with you. Through thick n thin….

  2. habsperspective says:

Penguins getting pounded on home ice tonight. So Pittsburgh, now joining the ranks of Washington, Buffalo, and TBay. To go along with our beloved Habs as potential teams to miss the playoffs this season. Odd when teams like Toronto, Ottawa, Florida are taking there place.

Montreals problem is still very simple in my opinion. Confidence, when you part with Hamr, Wiz, and essentially Markov, your PP disappears, and crisp outlet passes to feed the Camms, Giontas, and Gomezs. Your smurf playmakers.

PG is a moron, and is ultimately responsible for assembling such a weak defensive core.

  3. Rob D says:

Gawd,,the rallying cry of all Habs fans.

    Wait till Gomez gets back!

    lol…I am tingly all over.

  4. Bill says:

    Too soon.

  5. Rob D says:

    Darche..quite the sniper…

  6. Hoegarden says:

Wait until Gomez gets back. Habs will have the most expensive 4th line in history with Gomez and Cammi.

  7. temekuhabs says:

    What a stop

  8. The Dude says:

Price and Halak are as good as each other …I miss the good times when we had both!

  12. habs-fan-84 says:

lol lots of whining on here tonight….it looks PATHETIC.

  13. HardHabits says:

Not even Tony or E1 calling a shut-out could jinx this game.

  14. habs001 says:

looks like the bad teams are all losing..pouliot scores…

  15. The Jackal says:

Who else thinks we need some NAG on this team?

  16. HabinBurlington says:

Somebody has to pull out all of Boone’s cliche’s

  17. Hali_Hab says:

A well built team vs a not so well built team. Who wins?

  18. RockinRey says:

    It is over!!!

  19. PrimeTime says:

FKN-BS…what’s a player to do?? No wonder Pac is so screwed in the head right now.

  20. kenzie420 says:

Keeping Price was the best move hands down. Why do all you people cry every time this team gets behind. This season is what it is, get over it. Someone please start a fourm that you have to be invited to, so real Habs fans can discuss real ideas and not have to listen to all the whiney Ba$t@rds.

    I love my team regardless

  21. Habsbill24 says:

This is the season to no where. Time to package AK, Moen and Gill and/or Campoli to a Cup contender for a 1st round pick and a prospect. That would be attractive to some team on the cusp. Play the kids and Budaj. No point killing Carey for nothing.

  22. solomio says:

Habs need to go for broke now. Heavy forecheck, get the puck deep, move the defence up to neutral zone and get pucks on the net. Looks like a fluke goal, deflection will have to break the ice and fire them up. And if a power play presents itself again the must certainly score.

“I figure PG has one or 2 moves left to bring the Habs that extra step closer to perhaps being the best in the league.” – Einstein

  23. Mondou6 says:

Pang on the Blues feed said the Habs missed the net 10 times in the first 2 periods.

  24. JasonM says:

  25. habs001 says:

after 41 games the pp looks like it is the first pre season game…

  26. MacHabFan says:

Tonight is affirmation that our Habs rank low in skill and size. The balance of the season is tryouts for next season. Keep 11. Cut 11.

  27. stevieray says:

When , if ever, was our PP ranked LAST , yes LAST in the league …not lookin’ good for us . We needed atleast a point tonite to keep things going …
but LAST in the PP..never thought I’d ever see that.

  28. Mondou6 says:

Ok, let’s get these 20 minutes over with.

  29. habitual says:

Cammy: 9 goals this year, 19 goals last year. All that for 6 million a season.

That about sums up why we are where we are.

  30. DOAHABS says:

HABS still are losers since 1993, & even then it was a fluke (a fluke I appreciated) but let’s face it ,they don’t care as long as they put bums in the seats & kids (who have never seen the Habs win) keep buying over priced crap from the ’boutique’ .We have become the Maple Leafs
and we are worth a fortune doing it……

  31. Dickie9 says:

look at the size of the 4 guys in on the Blues goals, Arnott, Reaves, Backes, Stewart….wake the f up PG…it is not a small mans game anymore….get rid of that useless Cammy…he is absolutely terrible….

  32. HardHabits says:

The Habs can’t be sellers. The only thing they have worth anything are their young players.

I just can’t see anybody giving the Habs anything of value for the likes of Gomez, Cammy, Gionta. Not this season at any rate. Maybe next when those contracts are shorter. The whole league knows Montreal is screwed with all its conditions; language, the history, taxes, fans’ expectations, media coverage, regular season earning potential dependant on play-off viability.

The Habs can’t rebuild because the fan base wont accept it. Nor will the media. So invariably the Habs have to hope that making the play-offs will be enough as they have no choice but to remain middle of the pack given their penchant to trade picks for rentals and never finish low enough to select elite talent at the NHL entry draft.

  33. szthecatman says:

I dont know if anyone agrees but I personally dont trust PG to make any trades or any moves…. Hes been making wild moves to try to save his own job and i dont feel good about him possibly screwing us over for another _____ years due to a desperate trade that gives players away for nothing in return

  34. Hali_Hab says:

Size seems to be making the difference tonight. That and cammys awesome back checking abilitys

  35. HabinBurlington says:

I would say I really miss Markov, but I am starting to forget what he even looks like…

  36. PrimeTime says:

Perry gets 1% of New Hampshire Primary vote. Ha Ha!! Buh Bye

  37. HassanM says:

Why are we ok with Kaberle…Campoli…Gill…we are talking about a supposed PP specialist. and 2 veteran D yet we pay them a combined 9 million to play no more than ten mins a game and can’t even play Defence properly let alone offence.

  38. Hoegarden says:

Sens destroying Pens 5-1 with less than 7 min to go.

  39. madhabsfan says:

Turco does NOT belong in broadcasting. Painful to watch.

  40. Danno says:

I wonder if Halak is going to get a shutout tonight?

“Hey Richard, two minutes for looking so good!”

  41. badbalance says:

Maybe not so much for BLues playing amazing, I think the Habs are just playing crappy

  42. 12 shots and 14 give aways sums up the 1st 40 minutes. Cammalleri should be benched for 3rd period. Hope that will get him going for next game?

  43. Bill says:

this is Shut-Out City for Halak. Shut-out all the way for Jar-0

    Full Breezer 4 Life

  44. habs001 says:

We will probably come up with a great effort vs boston and again fool a lot of us…we are becoming the leafs when their fans lived and died because they beat us or played us even and the rest of the season meant little…just because we play well vs the bruins has little meaning if the rest of the year is pathetic

  45. CHawkeye says:

Seems like Habs players like Halak more than Price #sarcasm. Both teams working hard to win it for Halak. Cammalleri is lucky we have Gomez on this team….oh my do we have a boatload of useless players.

  46. Hoegarden says:

Damphousse roasting Cammi on his lack of covering his man on both St-Louis goals. Something definitely bothering the Cammer.

  47. Danno says:

Damphouse pointing the finger at Cammalleri for both goals

“Hey Richard, two minutes for looking so good!”

  48. habs001 says:

It looks like this team needs a shake up by making a major trade that involves one or 2 of our top 6 forwards…plecks minus 2 ..ak46 is just not good enough to win with over the long haul and the playoffs…

  49. Habzfan says:

Pleks line on for both goals.

  50. tehmat says:

All those halak stop signs are getting him pumped

  51. Habfan10912 says:

Cammy took Gomez lessons. Helped get 1 coach fired. Working on 2nd coach and first GM. Plus the most pores defence I can recall in recent memory. Maybe its best if Weber plays and Campoli and Gill sit or are moved.

  52. Rob D says:

Sorry about my duplicate lost in comment limbo-land for a while. Out of body

This is the first time ever I have wanted the Habs to tank. The only real solution to this problematic team is better and near elite players.

  53. SlovakHab says:

OK, it looks like we are a seller at the deadline. Cammy needs to start scoring, otherwise he won’t fetch more than a 2nd rounder and that’s not early enough.

  54. deuce6 says:

Lack of a PP, the inability to get to the puck first and win battles along the boards is killing us…Jaro isn’t breaking a sweat…

We are a pretty easy team to play against tonight…No fire or hustle at all..

Yes, I’m a Hab fan..Wanna fight about it?

  55. krob1000 says:

Get Cammi and PK off the first unit asap….long term they are the guys but they are struggling hard and making piss poor decisions….PK can;t get a shot through, shoots when he shouldn’t, doesn;t walk in and shoot when he shoot, etc….Cammi is just fighting everything…….put Diaz on with Kaberle for the first unit pairing

  56. Propwash says:

You know Jaro is gonna get a shutout

    Don’t let the wultures getcha.

  57. Ferg says:

Passing is terrible tonight. And we are playing small. But the game is not out of reach. This intermission will be a good test for Cunneyworth as a coach and as an indicator of the character of this team. Will they come out better or have they quit on this one already?

  58. HabsFanMTL says:

  59. Jon™ says:

Can they fine Subban every time he take a wild one-timer on the PP that misses eight feet wide of the net, curls around the boards and Price ends up playing behind his own net?

  60. Hoegarden says:

I hope CP throws a fit in the room.

  61. jmsheehy19 says:

Silver lining, Gio looks like he’s shaken off the rust and is helping that line get some good looks.

    …Also Emelin is awesome.

  62. Danno says:

    Mayday! Mayday!

    Prepare for a Halakian attack!

“Hey Richard, two minutes for looking so good!”

  63. RiverviewCanadien says:

    GO Cammi!

EDIT: That meant to say GO THE @#!$ HOME Cammi!

  64. joshbenn says:

    Shutout for Jaro?

  66. duffy says:

    Man this power play SUCKS.

  67. topher5468 says:

    Screw Cammy, he sucks.

“It’s not an obsession, It’s a way of life..”

  68. PrimeTime says:

Boo’s are deserved. Extremely poor effort!!

  69. Rob D says:

Every team the Habs play, I usually have to say “o well.they are just a better team. More talent, better coached, good organization” Then I realize its happening with almost every darn team they play…lol..I need a drink but I quit years ago. Time for coffee..!!!

  70. habs178 says:

Cammy, Gio and Plecks on a line together SUCKS! They suck harder on the PP…what a waste of time having them together….

  71. piter says:

Cammi the bum, can’t even score from 5 feet!!!!!!

  72. PrimeTime says:

wtf cammy?if you can’t score there then what good are you?

  73. Sal says:

Cammy can’t even cash a gift!!!!!!

    Sal from the Hammer

  74. JIMVINNY says:

hit the damn net. that is the only thing you get paid to do.
