Liveblog: Winning streak stops at 2

Halak
Returning to the scene of his playoff glory, Jaroslav Halak had a very quiet night at the Bell Centre.
In notching his second shutout of the season, Halak made only 19 saves …only a few of which were remotely difficult.

UPDATE: Patrick V. Hickey is day-to-day with an upper body injury. I’ll be writing for the dead-trees edition of The Gazette, which means a terse and pithy live blog that stops early in the third period. I’m counting on the Commentariat to soldier on.

Is it that the Blues are that much better than us or are we not playing as good as we can? Because we are not looking very good against this team tonight. If they are that much better then maybe a high draft pick is what we need!!

  3. Mondou6 says:

With all respect to Halak’s efforts for us…We pulled 2 playoff series out of our posteriors, against superior teams, and then were systematically destroyed by the Flyers, in a series that wasn’t even competitive.

I don’t exactly hold that up as the “golden age” of our franchise, and I think it’s time to let that run go. It was dumb luck that amounted to nothing in the end.

  4. I gots a feeling that Cammalleri will be traded very soon.

I can’t believe what a huge failure he is this season. Sigh, oh well tis life I suppose.

  5. bellcentre hotdog says:

    What a disappointment.

Outplayed, out hustled, and out scored. Blues have been the hungrier team all night.

  6. matt jordan says:

the blues also have a big team, with HUGE players

    • Bill says:

Big team, huge players, giant guys, just really freaking big men in ridiculously large sweaters and everything. Like their team plane is a blimp. Their hotel is the Pentagon. The only thing bigger than the Blues is Pierre McGuire’s love interest in TJ Oshie.

Cammalleri looks lost out there… No backcheck… No instensity… He needs to wake up

  8. Sal says:

Jar-OH’s got that, you’re not scoring on me look….unless it goes in off somebody’s ass, and not then either. Another goalie that loves playing at the Bell Center, as we all know, what else is new.

    Habs need an ugly one…

  10. Propwash says:

It would be nice to have confidence in the powerplay, but it’s a major Achilles heel for this team.

  12. HFX-HabFan says:

Glad to see that Hitch lost some weight. He doesn’t look quite like the red “about to burst tomato” he was in previous years.

    • showey47 says:

Heard a great interview with hitch on xm. Talking about learning to adjust as a coach to the new style of play and younger players after he was fired from columbus. Before he was pretty much another JM when he was the jackets coach.

  13. PrimeTime says:

    3-0 is the worst lead

  14. solomio says:

Honestly I don’t l know if Habs could win a game against this team.
Habs can’t afford to lose any games so this hurts real bad.

I am beginning to sense a shut out, should have kept him ,

  16. jmsheehy19 says:

I can live with bad plays by PK, he’s 22.

Have a harder tme with our slow as molasses vet getting smoked outside and the making up for it by screening Price.

  17. matt jordan says:

the blues are to fast for this last place team

  18. habs001 says:

halak cannot play as many games as price..halak is vey good as a backup…now when halak is at his very best he is just as good as price if not better

  19. scavanau says:

    WTF was that ?

  20. habaholic68NJ says:

Gill get’s beat then screens Price. Rough night. Miracles anyone?

St louis running our players, going for the head and cheap shots all game… We are getting destroyed by their forecheckers too…

  23. CHawkeye says:

What the hell was Cammalleri doing on that back check. Awful. Man, I never thought I would say this but 13 is useless.

  24. chanchilla says:

blame the momentum shift on subban, what a terrible play. but i agree, this ones in the bag for theblues

  25. Rob D says:

Every team the Habs play, I usually have to say “o well.they are just a better team. More talent, better coached, good organization” Then I realize its happening with almost every darn team they play…lol..I need a drink but I quit years ago. Time for coffee..

  26. Rad says:

I don’t think they’re scoring on Halak tonight. Shutout Jaro in the Homecoming game.

  27. The Dude says:

So Who said small hockey players were fast? The way I look at it St. Lou and the Bruins are doing us a favor CUS WE NEED CHANGE!

  31. gumper says:

Fn Gill a complete screen on that one.

Also, wonder if RC is noticing how often Cammi interrupts the flow of play with his non-physical play and bad passes.

Anyway folks, this one’s over. That’s me out.

  32. Bertuzzi says:

Halak would have had that one. See you next season.

  33. Danno says:

On the bright side…Oh wait. There is no bright side.

  50. Ferg says:

That goal was all on PK. And just before that, he quit on a play to plead with the referee for a penalty because someone knocked the stick out of his hands. Tired of hearing how talented this guy is. He’s also a very selfish player. Let’s not forget that.

  51. HardHabits says:

PK is young. He is going through a tough time. He’ll be a great player one day. Not this season though.

  52. Rad says:

Ryan Reaves again. 6’1″, 230, with the dirty hit on Campoli.

  53. 123456 says:

was that pleks that let him go free? UGH UGH

    backcheck guys

  54. habs001 says:

looked like pk gill…while the pp was not a full one ..it looks pathetic…no plan no idea what they want to do…does not look like a pro level pp

  55. VancouverHab says:

Subban played defense on that goal like I would have played defense on that goal. That is not a compliment….

  56. habsfaninboston says:

That guy should never have gotten around P.K.

    F*CK, PK. Get it together.

  62. Rad says:

I can’t believe that their enforcer skated right around Subban and made the play for the goal.

  63. HabinBurlington says:

Kaberle could pretend to look for the other forward on the ice.

  64. HardHabits says:

    Lazy defensive coverage PK

  65. showey47 says:

Don’t know if anybody caught it or not but on darche’s penalty the blues player hit himself in the face with his own stick.

  66. HabinBurlington says:

This team would be benefitted on the pp with Gomez skating the puck out of our zone.

  67. PrimeTime says:

Gee. You’d think Jaro was French with all the attention he is getting?

  68. Adidess says:

Was puzzled as to how exactly the Blues managed to be 4th in the standings in the West (ahead of Chicago), especially after such a terrible start. It’s the Hitchcock effect, sure, but this roster is good and tough.
Love how Price is focused and square tonight.

Oh, first post out if the way… long time reader.

  69. HabinBurlington says:

Sure would be nice pop a powerplay goal here

  70. Bill says:

Habs have been better second period, but still kinda hanging in there. But as long as they can hang around … could go either way. No question ther Blues are better. They’re tenacious and strong and Hitch has them playing like their helmets are on fire.

Habs have brought it for the 2nd Period.

  72. jmsheehy19 says:

Gotta say man, I know Hitchcock wears on players over time, but he’s got these guys playing heads and shoulders above where they were before he got there.

  73. JIMVINNY says:

Eller blows it in the o zone, but gets the call.

  74. Rad says:

    Great penalty kill by Eller

  75. Danno says:
