It’s officially UGLY

PenguinsNealHIO

No Crosby?
No Malkin?
No Letang?
No problem.

The tougher, faster, hungrier Penguins skated circles around the Canadiens, smacked them all over the ice, forced errors and won with dismaying ease.

Pathetic and depressing.

Scary to think what the score would have been if Crosby et al had played.

Games are very hard to watch….. best game so far was the match against Colorado at least that was entertaining

What;s it mean when you cannot beat a team wth there 3 best playing not in the lineup ?????

made some lines up and let them find some chemistry already

After 47 years of watching the habs I think I can comment objectively on this team. We suck !

I have nver witnessed a Habs team that had such poor:
    management
    direction
    presence
    character
    patience
    poise
    leadership
    heart
    scoring
    size
    toughness

I’m running out of adjectives and i have definitley run out of PATIENCE. I want a coach with a fire in his belly, which will brush off on the players. This team coud turn it around and be great but unfortunately JM is not the guy. Time for him to move on. Bring on Patrick. Bring back Scotty as GM. Bring back some frigging tradition to this once great TEAM

Price said”We all need to be on the same page”. This clearly shows how incompetent our coaching staff is. Penguins minus their star players kicked our butts because their coach has a plan and the entire team is on the same page. Best thing right now is to hope for a longer losing streak.

Wow this team is in serious trouble. I am hoping the Molson boys wake the hell up soon and can Martin. As I was sure, it’s pretty obvious that Muller was a good addition to the bench. The offence has been DEAD since he left and so has the powerplay. New players or not it’s dead as dead can be. It’s time Guathier woke up and threw Martin out the door and put Muller on the bench or someone else competent enough. Martin was always a dud coach and he continues to prove it. Ya way to go, limit Kostitsyn’s play time. Good thinking!! It’s time to clean house Molson boys or this team is going NOWHERE. We have a good team with talent, we need a real coach who can motivate and use these guys effectively so they can get their jobs done. I bet Cole is going “wow, f did I f up or what coming here”. And throw that washed up Gomez out the door while you are at it. Ya he’s hurt, my arse he’s hurt. He knows he sucks he got off the ice. Wow I never saw such crap hockey as I did tonight. I almost turned off the game right when they scored #3. What a waste of time.

I would think the problem is not only the coaching. After all the coach is not the one who signs the contracts, nor scouts nor drafts the players. JM’s style of hockey has cost us key players early in the year and it costs us players when it counts during playoffs. Clearly JM’s style of hockey belongs in the olympics or international hockey, not in the NHL. I agree unless JM changes his style the man should be let go.

It is Pierre Gauthier with the advice of Robert Gainey, who helps to determine what our team looks like out on the ice. Lately they’s determined not to sign any players who taller than 6 feet tall, and who weigh less than 200 pounds.

This has cost us dearly, it allows other teams to take advantage of our small size as a team, to push us around because overall we are a very light team to push around. While we skate fast, we also lose the puck just as quickly.

    • I did turn it off, just like every other game that they have played this year (other than the Winnipeg game that I missed because I was at a family dinner). I have to admit I made it through until Gionta’s penalty near the end of the second period, unlike the Calgary game that I turned off after 10:15 of the first period after we went ahead 1-0 and then proceeded to give up 2 power play goals and then take a third penalty HALFWAY THRU THE FIRST PERIOD! These guys are so undisciplined that the look and play like a bunch of idiots. Can they all be so bad? Don’t think so- just look at the last couple of years. Problem- coaching or lack thereof. BG fired Carbonneau when he lost control of the team. Gauthier should say good bye to JM before it is too late.

…to Me, there are 2 that are first to be considered …Patrick Roy, and Kirk Muller
…Patrick Roy has been defining His coaching experience with the Remparts, but I don’t think Patrick’s fiery, sometimes irrational personality is a wise fit with the type of Players We have today …after a few months I think We would be looking back regretfully that We let JM go

Jacques Martin is an outdated coach who has clearly lost a team he never had. Muller was the only reason this team had some success in the JM/PG regime, mostly because of specialty teams and character. As a devoted fan since the late 60′s, I am hoping that we loose the next couple of games so that JM can be fired. It is our only hope to salvage the season. Please get rid of this dinosaur and beg Jacques Lamaire to join and hold the fort until we can hire a real coach that adjusts his coaching style to suit the talent on the team. If PG does nothing, Mr Molson needs to get rid of him as well.

I think we’re definitely missing Captain Kirk (Muller), to me that’s the biggest change from last season to this season. 38. newbrunswick troy says:

Wow ,could you ever see that this team has no confidence…
Actually what this team has is “no toughness” and i don,t just mean a goon to protect the smirfs, but i mean this team is so undersized that the players have no ability to win any and i mean any battles anywhere on the ice!!!
Gainey played a hunch that with the new obstruction calls the team would bennefit by being quicker…so they went small and tallented and quick…but what they missed was the fact that everybody else also went tallented and quick..they just did it picking players that were 6-3″ and full of muscle!!

    • HardHabits says:

Why would Gainey and company put out the smallest team with no muscle as back-up, when IMO, they know deep down in their hockey hearts that a team can’t succeed with such a make up in the NHL. The reason: stealth tank. The last two seasons have been surprises with Halak’s Steve Penney Trophy worthy play-off performance followed by Price’s regular season of the ages to carry the Habs into the play-offs against all prognosticators.

If anything the Habs have over-achieved in the past two seasons.

The team is back down to earth.

A few top draft picks. Some good rounding out talent in the pipes and by 2015 we’ll be at the top of the league.

The Habs have to hold the course though. My fear is they do something really stupid and squander the next few years on another 8th place finish.

  39. savethepuck says:

I don’t lose any sleep over a regulation loss when the team plays well, but when a struggling team that needs a win mails in an embarassing lacklustre performance like that it really pisses me off. The team should of got shutout tonight, no one in a white jersey deserved the stat padding points they got at the end of the game. Carey let in a screen that bounced off the post and then his leg, followed by a deflection and then a high stick batted out of the air. He couldn’t of donme anymore. I’ll have to stay away from here for a few days because the comments will be way too depressing on here. Think I’ll also need quite a few drinks for Saturday’s game.

    • Ehabs9 says:

At this point I think it’s worth swallowing some more losses to see JM fired. Being realistic even if they somehow managed to go back to the team they were last year, a start like this will probably see them miss the playoffs, they don’t have 10game win streak about them. I can’t say I’m surprised, I never thought PG or JM were great fits for getting it done, I guess I just hoped we’d keep getting lucky.

  43. GoGioGo says:

That’s it. Show up against TOR and FLA, or JM is done. What else could PG do ? Nobody wants our 1-point-every-6-games players anyway, so he will probably choose the easy way out and fire the coach. Which is starting to sound like a really, really good idea. Even more so with each passing game.

So who do they put behind the bench to turn things around ? Or, HH you will like this, who do they put there to make absolutely sure to tank ?

  50. Ian Cobb says:

The amount of talent that Martin has dismissed from our roster over the past 3 years, and is playing well on other clubs, tells a large story how he handles players.

George Laraque said that players in the room do not like playing for Jacques Martin. Maybe so, I don’t know. All I know is that nothing is going to change here without a major philosophy swing in direction.

Very sad when one wants to see NHL good competitive hockey game, one has to switch to other games. Does this remind anyone of the years Gauthier and Martin spent at the bottom in Ottawa!

I will have to find another hobby for this winter.

    • Chris Higgins says:

Be fair Ian, x amount of months ago, you were spanking it about how good this team was. They bite bull snot and will for the immediate future. Almost every other Canadian team will do better than the Habs this year. Why? The coaching and management suck!

Somebody wake me! Now we all get to live through this bad dream together. Horrible I tell ya!

Great post Ian. I said the same thing, I never blamed Martin until now. This team SHOULD be better in almost every aspect. More experience in the youth and added talent (Pacioretty, Eller, Emelin, Price, Cole, etc).

Like I said in my post, I jumped on the fire Martin bandwagon, because this caliber of players (really did they play ANY better without Gomez?), no way they mail in a game like that.

    Letting Wisniewski go: Mistake.

    Long-term deal for Cole: Mistake.

At least one of Hamrlik or Wisniewski would make a huge difference.

  52. Da Hema says:

Now that Price is playing average–at least to this point–this current team is revealing itself for what it is: one that needs superhuman goaltending to have any chance whatsoever to win. Could be a very gloomy season folks.

  53. timothy13 says:

The streak continues for the Habs yet I wonder when will Carey Price show his true colors and sit out a game. Give the back-up a chance because Price just is not 100%. Yes he is not focused and sure respect is granted because he stated after Sat’s loss that he was responsible for three soft goals but this team needs a shake up. The coach, GM, I don’t know nor do I comprehend, the former speed and style the Habs once possessed is now a haunted memory. Wait Halloween is approaching maybe then the team can actually score and post a W. So I shall not panic but I hope the boos are loud Sat night @ the Bell Centre because the Leafs lost tonight and will be looking to regain their brilliant start and the Habs are hapless or is that hopeless. Are the team titles & jokes somehow mixed up because I am @ a loss to understand how bad this team really is. I watch the Habs and struggle to either turn the game off or shoot the screen like Elvis.

    • Man Dingga says:

Give your head a shake. You can’t point the finger at Price for the way this team is playing. His performance thus far aside from the Calgary and Colorado games has been good. Point fingers where they should be directed, PG and JM. Blaming Pricey is getting really old.

  56. twilighthours says:

You know, all this team needs is a bit more speed, a few more goals, a bit better defense, some more grit, some guys with heart, maybe a tough guy or two, a legitimate sniper, some proper coaching, getting a big save when it’s required….

Things should turn around soon enough.

    • timothy13 says:

Things will turn around when this team wakes up. The exhibition series is over and the season began Oct 6th but the Habs must be dreaming of ice, snow and already the team has the winter blues. 57. Chris Higgins says:

Brutal time for canadian hockey. 6 teams out of 7 are sitting outside of the playoffs. The only one who isnt is the leafs, and they probably wont make the playoffs. We might see just 1 playoff team in canada this year since
the flames, oilers, jets, sens wont make it.
the habs, leafs are bubble teams
    leaving just the canucks.
    puke!

JM and Gauthier have to go NOW

  60. The Dude says:

Get Sean Avery to at the very least make this disaster (from top too bottom) at least FUN!He will take our focus off this sh!t pile and set our sights on him,lol And he ‘s cheep!

can someone brief me on gomez. did he walk or get hurt, i missed it.

  62. Seps says:

Oh well, Yakupov sounds like a good addition to the team

  63. Laramy87 says:

    2-6 in preseason,
    1-5 in regular season.

Im curious now to hear Martins post-game interview. “i thought we had a good game today, we had 5 scoring chances, but Fluery was the difference.

I truly dont think this team is all that bad, just there is absolutely no gelling, because that good behind the bench cannot keep a line together. DD/Max Pac /AK was the best line the last two games, so why break them up. I do not understand what goes through Martins head. I think he may want to get fired. He just doesn’t care. Why cant we have an animated coach like Ruff or Trotz. God we need some else behind the habs bench and soon

    • Mondou6 says:

If this team isn’t bad, what does a bad team look like?

      Just curious…

    • HabCez says:

DD/Pac played a bit to together but..
he really has it in for AK..
i thought AK last game had the best crisp long passes when he was playing the blueline on the PP..
why leave him out of the PP all together today..

he gets some bad penalties but come on..

  64. Habifax says:

You can’t fire the team so…….

  65. Mondou6 says:

Our team wasn’t very good last year, and we’ve added worse players to more expensive and longer term contracts.

  66. dre1744 says:

Maybe the habs can get the 1st overall pick this year!!!!!!

I’m a habs fan thru thick and thin and this team is thin!!!!!!!

  67. theflower says:

Painful, is about the best word to describe tonight. I felt Jackie had already lost the room last year, this confirms it. Honestly, let’s keep him as coach so we have a chance at the Nial Yakupov sweepstakes, because even if we play .500 hockey where will we be next year? All roads point down with Martin and Goat. We are a mediocre team at best, injuries and all and we don’t have a top 20 scorer on this team. Sometimes you gotta break a few eggs to make an omelette. We need an omelette now more than ever!

    • HardHabits says:

My biggest fear is that somebody, either BG, PG or the Molsons, does something knee-jerk and sends this team down the road to perpetual mediocrity for the rest of all of our lifetimes.

      • theflower says:

Well, we have been mediocre for so long, I can’t remember. Maybe somebody can tell me the last time we had a 40 goal guy, I’m thinking Stephane Richer. The last time we won the cup did we not have 6 or 7 20 goal scorers? Since then we have done our best, to never actually rebuild, just patch and patch some more. All the teams vying for the cup, with the exception of Detroit have gone to the bottom to get top picks and then back to the top to win cups. So in theory, that system has a better rate of return than this mediocrity game we play. I’m not a fan of Burke at all, but I give him credit for getting Kessel, even though it cost him in picks really they were so bad they had nothing to lose. Sometimes getting bad, is not a such a bad thing, when the other option is staying mediocre for years, which by all accounts we have already done!!!

      • Chris Higgins says:

Torpedoes be damned, let’s go for it!!!

  68. HabCez says:

Hate to say it.. but i rather have Don Cherry as coach then Jerk i mean Jacques Martin.

    Ok not true. :D

  69. Habitant in Surrey says:

…ironic relative to all Our hystrionics …the Pittsburgh post-game commentators are noting what Montreal missed most tonight …get ready for it …Gomer’s ability to take and control the puck from His zone into Pittsburgh’s zone
    …may be ironic, but true

      My highlight observations, so far:

Eller nice pass to Cole. Nicer save by Fleury.
Nifty move by Gill to send in Darche alone. Nice save by Fleury.
Price handling the puck with more authority than nonchalance.
      Nice save, Price on Jeffrey.
Cammy to Plex in the slot. Another nice save by Fleury.
Neal off of Gorges ass and off of the post. Price had no chance really.
Subban-Gorges is a high risk pairing.

However you want to look at it. Fleury’s saves or the Habs inability to bury those chances is what won it for the Pens.

I have been watching hockey for a long time. Something happening with management players etc. This is why Gainey will be appearing more often. Just watch. Muller leaves and he had nothing good to say about Martin. Its a known fact he held it together. The team has quit playing for him, also the team is not as good as others for they have all improved also. Is it going to be a blow up and a minor rebuild again like the bruins did 3/4 years ago or the flyers/sabres did this year. I think players like Cammi/Gionta/Subban/Gorges/ are very expendable to stanley cup contenters. I hate to have the PK fans jump on me but bottom line he is predictable, he telegraphs his passes, his plays, his shots. The novelty has worn off trade him for a high 2 nd rounder or maybe even a first rounder. Rebuild fast with younger players for I assure this is what is going to happen.

  71. BCG says:

You can’t have your top line only offer leadership. Gio/Gomez don’t score. They try hard, and Gio is a character guy, but they don’t finish/score and you can’t tie up so much cap space in players like that.

    • Stuck_in_To. says:

What are you saying? Since 2006–07, Gionta has scored 25, 22, 20, 28 and 29 goals. And he scored tonight. I am not suggesting he is Stamkos but that you need to either check you facts or qualifiy what you are saying.

  72. Neutral says:

the penguins could have beaten the Habs with two lines and they’re gonna be beat saturday by the leafs. where’s all the big stars some of you have been talking about. the only stars in montreal is in the sky. 21 jokers.

  73. roady says:

What do you think Geoff ? …time for a change or…just stay the course…thought so…thanks for nuthin’
